Back in an hour or two
Love that image, Chips! (What’s not to love?)
Wow,I was first. I’m now among the annoited lol.
It is a very small and privileged club.
That’s my guy!
Mine too! Mine too!
I’m looking forward to my President’s interview on NBC at 4:30PM ET. I hope Matt Lauer doesn’t concern troll my President with stupid questions. I don’t have time for any nonsense this afternoon.
This we should never forget! I have got his back!
Sorry…I carried this over from the last thread. It’s ugly, but important.
Warning! Ugly site…but this is how they think….that registering poor voters is UNAMERICAN! They are leeches on society and should NEVER have a voice. Those give aways and handouts they get from the govt are bribes…(which are the exact words that Romney used yesterday…) That the only people “worth” anything are the people that can stand on their own (read, rich).
I would have posted the thing in its entirety, but it’s long. The site name….should be OXYMORON.
Why are left-wing activist groups so keen on registering the poor to vote?
Because they know the poor can be counted on to vote themselves more benefits by electing redistributionist politicians. Welfare recipients are particularly open to demagoguery and bribery.
Registering them to vote is like handing out burglary tools to criminals. It is profoundly antisocial and un-American to empower the nonproductive segments of the population to destroy the country — which is precisely why Barack Obama zealously supports registering welfare recipients to vote.
A decade before the Motor-Voter law that required states to register voters at welfare offices was enacted, NAACP official Joe Madison explained the political economy of voter registration drives.
“When people are standing in line to get cheese and butter or unemployment compensation, you don’t have to tell them how to vote,” said Madison, now a radio talk show host in Washington, D.C. “They know how to vote.”
Like Madison, Barack Obama grasped this basic truth when he worked for ACORN’s Project Vote affiliate in 1992.
“All our people must know that politics and voting affects their lives directly,” the future president said. “If we’re registering people in public housing, for an example, we talk about aid cuts and who’s responsible.”
Encouraging those who burden society to participate in elections isn’t about helping the poor. It’s about helping the poor to help themselves to others’ money. It’s about raw so-called social justice. It’s about moving America ever farther away from the small-government ideals of the Founding Fathers
This is the shit that passes for “thought”.If I hear “Founding Fathers” used in vain again..I will kick someone’s teeth in. These idiots HAVE NO IDEA they are being used, by the 1%…to further an agenda that would alienate 99% of America.Including THEM! Paint someone else as the demon, to deflect their eyes away from the actual welfare queens….that get the handouts….corporations and the 1%….what the fuck ever happened to critical thinking skills???
Can’t bring myself to read it, on this sunny Sunday morning! But I’m guessing it fits right in with their saying Democrats “want ‘the blacks’ to abort their babies.” Yeah, right. As a 65-year-old Democrat, I wake up every morning thinking of that. The truth is more like right-wing Republicans want to weed out and breed out all Democrats, so they can sit under their portraits of the Founding Fathers for the rest of time, by themselves, without any of those do-gooders around – or AAs or people smart enough to speak two languages, like English and Spanish. Sick.
Sorry. JoB I wondered whether I should put this up now…but knowledge is power…we need to hear the ugly truth sometimes so that we can fight the crazy You’re thinking along the right lines…the more “screwed up” you think…the “better” you are….I seriously hope that America is waking out of her self imposed, hypnotic slumber to see, for real, what these idiots really stand for. And I also hope, that they all get their asses handed to them come Nov….on a state, local, and national level…so they can regroup into at the very least, a sane party, of some thought and ideas. If they can’t do that…I hope they are removed from the political field for generations to come. We don’t have time for this brand of republican anymore.
No problem – I’m going to read it later. Just didn’t want to wreck my Sunday morning!
Gotcha:) Enjoy your Sunday…it’s beautiful here. Husband is working in the yard ( I love that) and I’m working in the house….come back here to check every now and then….then, I’m making a vat of chili for dinner and assorted munchie food….hanging out and rooting for my Giants!
DF, this sort brings to mind something Sen. Webb said sometime ago, that obama should go and visit the poor whites in Appalachia and bring them into the democratic fold. That poor blacks and whites have a common interest against the wealthy. At this point, somehow, it’s easy for rethugs to spook a lot of white poor on Obama (story line being that he wants to help blacks & Hispanics at their expense). Dems should figure out a way to heed Webb’s advise. It will pay off in the long run.
LI, it’s nice that Webb has so much advice for PBO, but my question is, why don’t he and his Democratic colleagues visit Appalachian communities in his own state and in nearby W Virginia? It’s easy for Webb and others like him to sit around advising, but it would be more helpful if they got up off their seats and did something. For example, help the Democratic Party in West Virginia, build some strength to fight GOP lies. Work with the DNC to strategically place ads in Appalachia media. Build a coalition of groups that already work in these areas–unions and charities–and help SHOW that Democrats are working for the people’s interests. The president is working to improve the national and global economy, solve some pretty dire global crises, transition the US to energy independence and fighting countless frontal and rear attacks from Republicans. It would be nice if he had a little help from his friends, rather than more advice. Webb isn’t even running next year so he should have time to lend a hand.
I get you. Always said the Dems don’t seem to support this Prez much, don’t seem to proud of his accomplishments, etc. But what Webb said, during the time he was running and visiting these areas, has merit. His point was these people like to see and feel their leaders. They’re skeptical of Obama (GOP helps that cause) and that if they pressed flesh with Obama and got to know him, they would realize he is on their side. The Dems have an option to either abandon these folks to the GOP or fight for them. Obama has so far done amazing things without the GOP, so he can do what he has to without footdragging Dems, too.
yes. this is what gets me about the progressives and all the other dems with their whiny issues about pbo. he’s the leader, he’s not the whole party! if you see something needs doing, get on it! pbo can’t personally greet and convert every fool in every corner of the country. the local dems bring his message to the local people. it feels like he’s there with you, when you see his photo and hear his message. i’ve never seen him, or heard his voice. i’m poor and white and elderly. but i get what he’s about because i read and i pay attention. we all have to do our part.
Don’t assume that Webb is a supporter of the Dems or the President.
Here is my take. Why get down and dirty in the weeds of these psychos? I do not read these type of sites until and unless in bubbles up to some to mainstream media lead story. Otherwise, F em.
That’s why I love TOD. This site cleanses my soul and affirms I am supporting something good and decent. All the rest can KMA.
I’d never comment there..but this is how they think, aamom. It’s ugly on steroids. Knowing this, makes me want to press harder and work harder. I agree on the psycho part Truly. They have gone off a cliff.
we are gearing up to have (at least my first) voter registration drive. I know other teams have done this but on the 11th we’ll be doing one at a library in town here. It is the knowledge that there are people who think like this article that motivates me to do this registration.
You know at first when I first heard about picture id’s I thought, well of course, that makes sense. everyone has a drivers license right? no. amazing how many people do NOT have such an ID. This is what we work to fight against and until someone has a good idea to deliver voters rights in an easier and EQUITABLE fashion (which I’m all for bring something easier – that’d be great – I’ve got laundry to do and groceries to get) then voter drives and the like are what must happen in order for people to vote.
Thanks DF you bring up a good point. I know others here are way ahead of me in the push for voter registration but for those who aren’t this will be a good way to get your feet wet in the process of government
a4Alice: How will you not be registering Repubs? Are you wearing Obama shirts? How are you addressing the picture ID with new voters? We want to hold a voter registration on my team, but worry we will register even more Repubs. We got enough of them in our neighborhood. Let me know how it goes. Good luck. Thanks for all you are doing. 4 more years!
I will get back to you I’m checking with my field director to make sure I have it right. It’s at a library so I’m not sure how far you can take that. (is it only to register? Can I wear campaign stuff and then ppl will ask me and I can nab them as volunteers maybe? Can I just outright set up a campaign table AND register voters?). I’ll find out.
Cindy, in many places it’s illegal to promote a party when you do voter registration. What you do, is place yourself in LIKELY Democratic areas where the greater majority of your registrations will be Democratic. Yes, you will get some R’s, but if the D’s outnumber the R’s, it’s worth it. On some occasions, when you’re manning a Democratic Party booth at a fair or parade, it’s okay to show your partisanship. If you get permission from a city school to do voter registration during lunch time, your chances of D registrations are much higher. States have different rules for registering. A few even require training. But if you can, always keep registration forms in a purse or pocket so that you keep register people ‘on-the-spot’ if the occasion arises.
Thanks, alice:) That was my entire point of posting it here…to make us see the ugly, and the fact that we need to work extra hard this year. I think that this election is even more critical than the last, if that’s even possible. Sadly, there are many that believe this crap…it’s easier than real solutions to blame others for their lot in life…even if it means that THEY TOO, will be effected. Strange. I believe it’s called the Dunning-Kruger Effect.
Dunning and Kruger often refer to a “double curse” when interpreting their findings: People fail to grasp their own incompetence, precisely because they are so incompetent. And since, overcoming their incompetence would first require the ability to distinguish competence form incompetence people get stuck in a vicious cycle.
“The skills needed to produce logically sound arguments, for instance, are the same skills that are necessary to recognize when a logically sound argument has been made. Thus, if people lack the skills to produce correct answers, they are also cursed with an inability to know when their answers, or anyone else’s, are right or wrong. They cannot recognize their responses as mistaken, or other people’s responses as superior to their own.”
yes I agree DF. It’s not going to be a cakewalk this year – I think it will be a lot of work. But it is necessary to get PBO re-elected then so be it. Hopefully his victory comes with bluer states so he has companionable people to work with instead of Speaker Boehner’s mess.
DF, I appreciate what you’re saying, but I think people who are immersed in this level of hatred are unreachable. There are so many others that we can reach and persuade that are a far better use of our energy. People who have this much ‘fear of the other’ inside them have almost reached a clinical level of mental disorder. What is sad, pathetic, venal, and enraging is Willard Romney inflaming the mentally disordered by his despicable statements of resentment against the poor. I would LOVE to see an outpouring of the poor and polling places in November and I will work very hard to make that happen and to ensure that they are all fully ELIGIBLE to vote.
And we are following in his foot steps.
And here is Romney, last night, talking the talk for the sheep….
“Then I’m not your President.” Damn straight. What a jerk.
I can’t listen to Romney for more than 7 seconds. But, maybe as an ad, they should take all the times he’s said “then I’m not your President” or “then vote for President Obama”, or “there’s a lot of reasons not to vote for me”, and put them all together to show just how much he’s not planning to work for the majority of the people – including the Europeans, their beloved allies who they seem to hate (because of their European-style socialism…).
This is all that the rest of us need to do. Obama/Biden and the USA 2012-2016!
Yes. let’s all get his back and stay with him till the end.
The “used to be Republican” John Cole…boils it down. He ought to know.
WOW!!! Loved Cole’s post. It’s the truth.
Yes, it is! They simply hate everything we are.
Wow, that was a powerful dose of unvarnished truth.
I’ve been saying of late that Repubs are perfectly happy being motivated by hate. And even if Thom Hartman and Amy Goodman don’t ‘love’ this administration, their fear and loathing of Republican rule should be a strong motivator to making sure they don’t get any extra power. After we reestablish in American political discourse that we ‘get it’, that we’re in it for the long haul, and you can’t defeat us because we’re united, you’ll actually see the political realignment that you profess to desire.
John Cole just laid it out as honestly as it could be laid out.
This is a tough read, but a must-read.
Good morning, TOD family. Having a lively conversation with a woman who’s trying to justify the Catholic church denying women access to birth control. I’ve been peppering her with questions that she can’t answer. Now she’s asking for help from a twitter friend.
Carried this comment over from lat thread because these positions against women’s health cannot be defended. And they know it.
That’s the issue with these rabid rightwingers and leftwingers. They spout ridiculous talking points, spew crazy crap, and when confronted with fact after fact, they lose their minds or go silent.
Ha. Now she’s come back to challenge the health care mandate. I asked her if she’s against the mandate for auto insurance. Crickets.
God. She’s paying for lack of a mandate right now, except it goes to covering the extra risk, instead of actually covering actual human beings.
Wouldn’t it be better to make sure everyone takes a little responsibility for their health care coverage, thereby ensuring that costs will come down and millions more Americans will get affordable health care?
And remind her that the mandate was a Republican idea, until Barack Obama decided to incorporate it. So it’s nothing but hypocrisy.
Excellent points. She’s now come back to argue that birth control pills aren’t medically safe. Again they have no credible reasons to be against this so they come up with other reasons that make no sense.
POO, she’s desperate. If she thinks they’re unsafe she doesn’t have to take them. Does she plan on personally regulating all medications take by every American?
Technically, what a person believes inside a religion cannot be explained to another person (“defended”). That’s any religion or having no religion, from my point of view. But I’ll give it a quick overarching comment.
The Catholic Church teaches that marriage is for two reasons: the procreation of children, and to help your partner get to heaven. They also teach that you should abstain from sexual relations until you are married.
If you are an adult Catholic (I am) – by the way, Catholics believe they have the gift of faith and know it is a gift of blind faith, since nobody can prove even the existence of God – and you choose to follow those teachings, they sound reasonable and beautiful; something to strive for.
[A friend of mine who was raised Catholic but finds herself not really even believing in God at this point once "thanked" me for not trying to talk her out of her thought processes. I responded, "That's your choice, and I respect it. I choose to believe in God with the free will that God gave me." (Get it? One of my best lines, and she laughed!)]
Now, I’ll break this into sub-parts. First, as we all know, the majority of American Catholics (and, I dare say, Catholics in other countries) believe “artificial” contraception is a wise choice. Second, the situation with the HHS decision or rule or regulation – whatever it is – is yet to be decided, on either side, since it may be changed one way or the other. I’m going to take a wait-and-see attitude on all of this, hoping for the best outcome for everybody (there’s that “blind faith,” again – it creeps into other parts of life). Third, nobody inside or outside of the Catholic Church should expect it to change its basic teachings because there are contemporaneous objections – just as other religions stick to their tenets, no matter how modern the world becomes.
In other words, we can disagree with the teachings on a personal level, but each religion has a right to own them. For adults, religion is a choice – but none of the long-established religions are democracies. So, best to keep urging that our laws and regulations give people choices, knowing that some will still have disagreements with some of them and often arising out of their own belief system.
P.S. One thing I’m very proud of – the American Catholic Church hierarchy is VERY MUCH in favor of President Obama’s actions that benefit the poor, the sick, and the elderly. They overlook some of his other “liberal” themes in huge measure because they are very much on “his side” when it comes to how he practices social justice, of benefit to all Americans. To my mind, he is more Christian that half the population, if you know what I mean!
Done “preaching” for one day! Off to have some ice cream and cake … everything in moderation, of course.
Jackie, I respect everyone’s faith. I’m a Baptist and believer of faith. However, I hold to a stance that I have no right to force my beliefs on someone else. Thus, neither does any other church. I also find it so curious that so many countries and women practice artificial contraception but then come out with a stance like this. Actions don’t line up here.
Don’t get me wrong, Proud ~ I hold to that same stance. Also agree that actions and words don’t line up, no matter which way you look. Of course, I don’t have the answers, but I do have hope that people like President Obama will help all of us to understand what compassion and the Golden Rule look like in person – as well as what it looks like not to force one’s beliefs on anybody else (especially when you are in government).
May I tell you “my” Baptist story? A co-worker and I were invited to attend a Christmas pageant at a local Baptist church by another co-worker who was brought up a Mormon but who became a Southern Baptist when he married his wife. Lovely event, enjoyed by all. Much to my chagrin, however, was when my male co-worker introduced us to his pastor after the pageant by saying, “I just want to warn you. She’s a Catholic, and I’m hoping the windows of the church don’t blow out with her being inside.” Luckily, even though I was embarrassed for a tiny minute, we all saw his joke and the pastor loved it and laughed!
Ha. Cute story. I do believe our President is showing us how people of all faiths can — and should — come together and use their teachings and beliefs for the good of all people.
One point of fact that needs to be stressed, is that this policy of providing contraceptive to women does not pertain to the church, but to those establishments such as Hospitals and Universities.
If you correspond with this person again, could you pose this question to her? Why is it OK, if say a married couple who works at the same establishment such as a catholic hospital, the husband is eligible if needed, to get Viagra, but his wife is not able to get contraceptives under the same insurance plan.
What makes me boil, is that this anti-contraceptive argument is being driven by men.
I asked the viagra question and the person had no answer for the question.
I responded on the last post, but you can send her this link, so she can read the details on the insurance deal with contraception.
what i’ve found when someone counters every reasonable thing i say with another angle, another argument, is that we’re not really talking yet about what bothers them. these issues are little shields they use to deflect any real discussion of their central issue. even the issue of race, which many won’t admit to, is a cover for the deeper issue, which, in my opinion, is fear of having the safety and comfort of the groove they’ve found in life shaken up.
now, you may not be able to alleviate that fear, because they’re right–we do want to fundamentally change the situation where some people are in a comfy little groove, and everybody else is cold, hungry, and poor. that has to change.
but we can, i think, assure them that when every child eats, they will also eat. when every child gets a good education, their child will also get a good education. and so on. there is enough for all. that is a fundamental value and belief.
especially when the opposition candidate has so much money, he has to hide it overseas to avoid paying taxes, it seems bizarre that anyone would not connect the dots about which party is more likely to steal your money and your safety. shrub already did that for me, and i sure didn’t vote for him.
honestly, i think people who are really troubled and confused should just turn off the tv and radio for a week, and let their mind clear of the rubbish. then think quietly about what they truly value and desire.
if that doesn’t work, just give up and move on to help someone with the heart and mind to actually learn.
Isn’t this why we all call him The Keeper? Lol!
Has this been posted and I missed it? I believe she deserves this new position and I wish her the best!
MSNBC Contributor, author and Tulane Professor Melissa Harris-Perry will debut her eponymous weekend program, “Melissa Harris-Perry,” on Saturday, February 18 at 10 AM ET. Melissa’s show will be live from 10a-noon ET both Saturday and Sunday.
I wish her the best, too, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that she doesn’t allow anybody on her show who “bashes President Obama for a living.”
A Mitt-ling performance? Now appears Mitt got about same % and far fewer votes than 2008 in NV, tho his chief opponent spent no $$ there.— David Axelrod (@davidaxelrod) February 05, 2012

“PUGILISTIC SON OF A BITCH” doesn’t adequately describe RMoney. It’s such an easy lie to refute: just look at the graphs that show over the last 30 years the middle class’s earnings have flat-lined while the 1% have skyrocketed. PBO, will make mincemeat out of that nastiness.
P.S. re: “Ann…icing his balls”, if the magic underwear…never mind, I’m letting my nasty flag fly! xoxoxoxo/

Rommey: ” I won’t bribe voters with hand-outs, but with all my rich friends, we are going to try to buy the election with lots and lots of cash for negative ads.”
Romney is an unspeakable ass and I hope he angers lots and lots of people so that anyone who might have been to lazy to act, rushes to the polls in November just to silence this moron.
But the conservative legal battles of our modern times are being waged by the most powerful, often against the weak and oppressed. They began with a carefully planned and successful effort to reshape the courts to be sympathetic to conservative causes. They are largely aimed at narrowing rights, not expanding them — except where property and guns are concerned. And beginning with the Reagan administration, conservatives became impatient with the pace of change brought about from within the mainstream. They sought to remake law into a weapon of aggressive action.
The court’s health care reform case arose from a decision by Judge Roger Vinson of Federal District Court in Pensacola, Fla., striking down the Affordable Care Act as unconstitutional. It demonstrates the enduring influence of the Reagan administration, which put a premium on picking judges who would carry out its ideology and on countering liberalism with pointed conservatism any way possible.
A lesson for stoopid pl/emoprog crowd
The 5 Biggest Lies About Obama In Mitt Romney’s Nevada Victory Speech
that’s excellent LH tweeted it over to my ofa
We need to be ready to refute these lies with these facts and insist journalists are ready hold those speaking lies to the truth also. Thanks for the ammo.
WASHINGTON — A second term for President Barack Obama would allow him to expand his replacement of Republican-appointed majorities with Democratic ones on the nation’s appeals courts, the final stop for almost all challenged federal court rulings.
Despite his slow start in nominating judges and Republican delays in Senate confirmations, Obama has still managed to alter the balance of power on four of the nation’s 13 circuit courts of appeals. Given a second term, Obama could have the chance to install Democratic majorities on several others.
That’s what I’m talking about!!!
If there is ONE argument to convince the emoprogs to vote democrat it’s this one. And let’s not forget the Supreme Court !!
WILLARD: A REPUGNANT DEMAGOGUE WHO LIES LIKE AN AMATEUR
Why we need Newt Gingrich
This doesn’t mean that Romney and Gingrich are equals in lying, demagogic ability, however. I confess a logical favorite, and here, I will demonstrate why.
What makes Mitt Romney such a repugnant demagogue is that he lies like an amateur; he has something plentiful of the bumbler in him, like a Baghdad Bob. Take this snippet, from his victory speech last night: “This president began his presidency by apologizing for America. He should now be apologizing to America.”
Now what, for the professional demagogue of some refinement and taste and natural ability, is missing from those lines? Yep, you saw it and heard it right away. What’s missing is even a shadow of sincerity, even a whisper of truth. The great demagogues and fantastic liars of the past, from both left and right — your Joe McCarthys, your Huey Longs, your “Pitchfork” Ben Tillmans and your James Michael Curleys — all of them, in a kind of awe-inspiring Mephistophelian way, excelled at weaving at least some semblance of some truth somewhere in their diatribes and denunciations. Not Mitt. His are just laughably, transparently false — and consequently thoroughly repugnant.
I know what it’s like to be persistant in your pursuit for what is right…we have all done it…now we must be persistant in getting President Barack Obama re-elected as though our lives depended on it.
HAPPY SUNDAY ALL AND #PRESS ON OBAMA/BIDEN 2012!
Our lives DO depend on it…and the lives of so many others as well…especially the lives of the ordinary American that “thinks” Romney will do a damn thing on their behalf. We have to save them from themselves.
Does anyone know what time exactly the pregame interview with the President will air? Haven’t seen the time listed anywhere…
It airs on NBC at 4:30PM ET/ 3:30PM CT / 1:30PM PT.
I read earlier that it will be around 4:30PM ET on NBC (as per UTAustin on the previous thread). It’s going to be at some point during the pregame which is from 2-6PM.
Thank you all. Even though I’m a NYer there’s no way I wanna watch the whole pregame show:))
I think it’s really cute and funny how @OFA_MA (Massachusetts) and @OFA_NY (New York) are using the Superbowl to create a little friendly rivalry on twitter. They’re both trying to out do the other in building their followers. The Obama team really does know how to use technology in a dynamic way. I say: Goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo PATRIOTS!
Does anyone know what time President Obama’s interview is going to air at the pre-game of the Super Bowl?

MITT ROMNEY IS THE “JON LOVITZ” PATHOLOGICAL LIAR PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE
So far, Mitt Romney has made the basis of his presidential campaign lying and making stuff up about President Obama. When I see him now, I can’t help but think of the pathological liar character created by Jon Lovitz. Check out the youtube video below to see what I mean. The next time you see Willard try to imagine Jon Lovitz instead. Seriously, if there was a lie detector attached to Willard he would render the machine inoperable. I hereby nominate Willard Mitt Romney as the president of Pathological Liars Anonymous. That’s the ticket!
Jon Lovitz Appears as the Pathological Liar on “The Tonight Show” — 1985
I need to acknowledge that I have been watching this issue for a couple of years. Had not heard a peep, so when I saw this link over at ABL, I did a jig all over my living room. Karma is real and she is a bi*ch! Lets see how the repugs deal with the crazy Orly now. This is just too delicious and I hope everyone will read it so we can be informed when the sh*t hits the fan. Are they really going to do this to their candidate in the middle of his campaign?
I have just been waiting. Any thoughts anyone?
Love it – just so perfect.
New post everyone:
So I have been plugging away at Election Toolkit pages we can use to get our hands on information about the causes that matter in the upcoming elections.
I have read many comment about how folks don’t understand ACA or are afraid of it. I made a page that might help. This is a rough draft, there are holes in it, but it is a start. I find that once I make a page with places for stusf (like great tweets or endorsements from the medical community), then it is easier to add stuff as it comes into this amazing blog.
So here is my humble attempt.
If you think it will be useful you may want to bookmark the main election toolkit page which links to all the other pages
Feel free to add resources below if you have ideas.
Also a big thanks to Creolechild who sends me so many resources and waits patiently while get to them.
Have you guys seen this video of these youngsters for PBO? Love it and want a tee shirt.
