Just got finished watching Chelsea Lately and Piers Morgan was the guest. Him and Chelsea had a little tension going on and of course he had to throw it in that President Obama was going to have a tough time winning the election with the unemployment rate and Chelsea quickly put him in his place saying that the President has created 3 million jobs in the last 3 yrs. He started to back pedal then. Chelsea said WE’RE ALL VOTING FOR BARACK OBAMA!! And I was screaming YES WE ARE!! LOL
Guess that THIS is what the Obama finance team was talking about … I just pulled it off my email.
Dear __________
I wrote something for our blog about our decision to support Priorities USA, the Super PAC that can help neutralize the avalanche of special-interest spending to defeat President Obama. Every supporter should read it; it’s pasted below.
I just want to add something for you specifically about your role in all of this.
We decided to do this because we can’t afford for the work you’re doing in your communities, and the grassroots donations you give to support it, to be destroyed by hundreds of millions of dollars in negative ads.
It’s a real risk.
In 2011, the Super PAC supporting Mitt Romney raised $30 million from fewer than 200 contributors. Ninety-six percent of what they’ve spent so far, more than $18 million, has been on attack ads. The main engine of Romney’s campaign has an average contribution of roughly $150,000.
That’s why it’s up to us — the grassroots organization — to win this election where we have the real advantage, and that’s on the ground. More than 1.3 million Americans have already donated. Our average donation is $55, and 98 percent are $250 or less.
The stakes are too important to play by two different sets of rules. If we fail to act, we concede this election to a small group of powerful people intent on removing the President at any cost.
I love this President so much. Those last two videos .. the stirring passionate speech, the gentle, loving visit in Iowa … I cry, tears of happiness, hope for tomorrow, sadness that he has to endure the opposition he does from a very nasty, evil faction of this country. If I could wish anything, and have it come true, I would wish that everyone could see what this man sees .. what we as a nation could be and simply help him for all our sakes. G’night. Thanks Chips.
I saw this anti-union ad during the Superbowl. This article at DK was linked to on Twitter. The millionaire anti-union guy who heads up anti-union organizations plays the mechanic in the ad. Unfreakingbelievable. These Rethugs really get down and dirty. It’s understandable if you don’t want to click on the DK link.
Just a little refresher – Bill Burton was National Press Secretary for PBO’s 2008 campaign and he used to be Deputy Press Secretary under Robert Gibbs. When Jay Carney took Gibbs’ place, Bill Burton left the White House to form this Priorities USA Pac. So there is a strong connection that goes way back. All the work they’ve done so far has been excellent. I think they’re going to be a powerful force for us in the election.
The End of Wall Street As They Knew It
After surprisingly successful financial reform, public vilification, and politics that have turned against them, the Masters of the Universe are masters no longer.
Lots of good news…everyday seems to build momentum. I can feel it….:) Night all.
I’ve read on several sites today that Romney hasn’t held a town hall in 3 weeks. I think this is a bad move because the more he sequesters himself from people at his rallies, the more out of touch with average Americans he looks. It is a clear indication to me that he’s uncomfortable interacting with the very people he expects to put him in the Oval Office. Candidate Obama received heavy criticism from the right after his Joe the Plumber interaction, and he weathered the storm. Romney isn’t brave enough to open himself up to un-scripted questions for fear he’ll commit another gaffe, so he’s decided to avoid all interactions with potential voters and hope that he can win the WH by running a campaign based on meet and greet only. When more people begin paying attention in the General Election period, the contrast between him and PBO will be crystal clear–a man of/for the people who is comfortable anywhere he finds himself vs a secretive Wall Street-supported robot, afraid of the very people he wishes to lead.
He does not have the temperament to handle plebes, only has temper.
Y’day chucky toad tweeted that willard hasn’t had held a town hall for a long time. I tweeted him back saying that it’s because the voters might ask tough questions of willard unlike the media hacks like him.
Great Ad…I will not forget Ben Smith (formerly) of the esteemed GOPolitico saying that photo of Romney with money literally spilling out of his pockets was no big whoop. Ha!
Hello TOD family – just got through the last dozen or so posts, catching up. My thanks go to Chipsticks and all of you who contribute so much valuable information and always make me feel hopeful and inspired. I have been very busy, organizing now in 7 communities. There is a major shift going on – Democrats of all persuasions and many Independents are finally coming together. I see it here in my own small town where people who hardly gave me the time of day are now eagerly welcoming me to Democratic functions. Everyone is asking for buttons and bumper stickers. I really believe that our President will carry this town in 2012 (he lost to John McCain here in 2008). More and more people are expressing an interest in being part of the campaign. I have even been asked if I can get lawn signs – and it’s only just February! I know it will still be a long, tough campaign and we will have our work cut out for us. But our President is getting his message to the people, and all the millions of Republican and special interest dollars will not change that truth. The new Democratic SuperPAC will help even the field, but our major asset will always be our President who understands the aspirations of the people and works so hard to move the country towards a more secure future. And, of course, it will always be the grassroots effort that will decide the outcome in any election. And the President’s grassroots army is growing stronger and more determined every day. I’m off to sleep now – good night, everyone and thank you all for the gift of this blog.
hgerhard – Thanks for your report on the ground! Appreciate everything you are doing on behalf of the President – and all of us – in your town and beyond!
Good for you hghard. I’ve found a lot of people that were quick to criticize PBO and dismiss him in the last couple of years are being scared witless by the specter of Romney and are coming home. The alternative to our PBO is becoming stark and as more people learn about Romney, they feel the cold chill of the Bush years in their bones.
Obama needs his Super Pacs. I am glad that he has said that he needs them. Until the problem about Super Pacs are solved, Obama’s team can’t keep to one hand tied behind their backs in order to win this election.
This may already have been posted (just getting back to TODville), but MSNBC did a fair (seemingly untainted) account of Bill Burton’s super PAC here … helped me to better understand the connection between the super PAC and the campaign:
Saw your note on Gen Mutter. That was a blast from my past. Her husband, Col Mutter, was Chief of Staff when I was stationed in Quantico; he was instrumental in my being selected for command.
I have been lurking here for months but had to post this funny video from J Smooth about Mitt Romney tonight in case others haven’t seen it yet. It’s a play on Jay-Z’s “Glory” and instead it “Phony (for Mitt Romney). Really hilarious. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXfk6tdm8as&feature=player_embedded
Will likely be posting this message many times in the months ahead:
@Messina2012 Regarding "Priorities USA" – FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE. We are in a fight unlike any since 1861-1865. You made the correct decision.— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) February 07, 2012
Please forgive the redundancy.
It’s 1861, everyone.
We either save the Republic on 6 Nov 2012 or it’s over – zero hype.
Romney's campaign has an average contribution of roughly $150,000. Donations to re-elect @BarackObama average $55, and 98% are $250 or less.— (@NeoRenfield) February 07, 2012
oh you know they’ll be catching the vapors soon enough. I just have to laugh at these folks sometimes. They demand Democrats bring a gun to a gun fight but then protest the actual use of them in that fight. Can’t have it both ways folks.
It’s shaping up to be spring 2011 redux. Just under a year ago, Republicans — euphoric after a midterm election landslide, and overzealous in their interpretation of their mandate — passed a budget that called for phasing out Medicare over the coming years and replacing it with a subsidized private insurance system for newly eligible seniors.
The backlash was ugly. But Republicans seem to have forgotten how poisonous that vote really was, and remains…because they’re poised to do it again. This time they’re signaling they’ll move ahead, with a modified plan — one that, though less radical, would still fundamentally remake and roll back one of the country’s most popular and enduring safety net programs.
The team behind both ads is Wieden + Kennedy, based out of Portland, Oregon. And they have a strong track record of creating inspiring advertising with communal messaging that even if it’s not specifically progressive, feels resonant with progressive values. They’re the team behind the Go Forth campaign for Levi’s that used Walt Whitman’s poem to argue “we must march, my darlings, we must bear the brunt of danger”:
Good night all
wow that was scary. He is telling you loud and clear what he will do as president.
Ouch. Outstanding ad. And now that Chicago has unleashed the hounds on super pac fundraising, there’s going to be some truth telling going on.
So happy about that decision. The rightwingers think they can mess with us. Welcome to the big boys table.
And he is telling you loud and clear that he should NOT be president!

I got the same mail just now. It’ll be interesting to see how this election cycle turns out.
So did I.
Who are they supposedly asking for donations? Because, People like Soros says no money for the Presidents super pacs!
Chips has debunked this lie.
It felt good donating to our SuperPac!
Just popping in to say I love the new ending on the commercial on the previous thread. #obama2012

He is always on msnbc and CNN!
I didn’t know that. Good!! Like PBO, he also has a black father and a white mother. Interesting guy.
I did NOT know that! Interesting! What a role model!
I always assumed Bill Burton was like Welsh or had some Italian in him…
???
Just peeking my head in for a second…and off to dreamland…..I read this earlier today, and Smartpants had this up as well….Lengthy, but good.

Romney is counting on two things: Media and Money. He will find out that it’s not enough.
Yup.
