Hooray! First??
Congrats!
Wow, SS4PBO, good on ya’!
Thanks Pam and Jaqueline! Lot’s ‘o fun!
Longtime lurker, but am I first?
Not quite, but welcome!
(The claim of ‘first’ always gets a few lurkers out! It’s because all of the President’s supporters are First Class!)
Madam Speaker I move that boxman15 be giving an honorary first. Or a free gavel if we have any left in stock.
All who oppose? {{{quiet}}} All who support this move? “Aye!!!!”…..The ‘Aye’s’ have it. Motion to give boxman15 the honorary 1st spot has been passed.
I like when you do that.
What for real? Why do I feel like doggone Taylor Swift now?!? Thanks Kanye! LOL
Sorry about that Staying. You’re still official. Lisa I knew we should have just stuck with the free gavel. The chair redirects.
I humbly (re)accept the honor and I will work diligently to tape back together my acceptance speech. Okay, now where was I…’To my TOD family…’ love you guys.
Almost, but keep trying. Welcome. You are going to love it here.
Meet America’s future scientists!
tod family that is when the President is happiest when is with the youth that will lead our country into the future.
exactly, he really loves this, there is no doubt in the hopes and belief he has in our youth. I love the way he sees our sons & daughters as real people with awesome futures ahead of them.
Yup. You can see the joy in his eyes.
President is so curious and cute.
Isn’t he adorable? He’s a big kid. It’s no wonder he gets along so well with those young scientists.
FUCK YES!
excellent news Tally, retweeted, thank you.
I love this. the pics rock!!!
Prop 8 declared unconstitutional in California! Great news!
Now Brad & Angie can get married.
WOOT!
Well, not quite. The ruling will probably be stayed until the Prop H8ters appeal to the SCOTUS.
Why would they take this case ?
One can always hope they wouldn’t, but you know Scalia, Roberts, Alito, and Thomas would vote to hear the case. The wild card is Kennedy.
Wasn’t this decision based on the US Constitution equal protection clause ?
They better leave this alone.
The mistake is in thinking that the not-so-fantastic four give a rat’s ass about the Constitution. But, stranger things have happened. I’m more than ready to be pleasantly surprised. If SCOTUS doesn’t hear the Prop 8 appeal, DOMA is all but dead.
Exactly LL. So any future marriages are still on hold till SCOTUS weighs in.
But we will celebrate this victory – YEA!
Oh and HELLO TOD family and Chipsticks
I love seeing POTUS interacting with young people – and Bill Nye – the Science Guy.
It doesn’t get any better than this
hmmm–i thought it was r-oberts a-lito t-homas s-calia?
Have different Circuits ruled differently on this issue? If so, I think this would be a major reason for them to take the case.
It still amazes me how completely comfortable the President is with EVERYONE.
… even Bill Nye, the Science Guy!
Yes, this despite his inability to connect……uh, What?
Seeing those three young ladies hugging the President let’s me know that there’s hope yet for Texas.
The look on little Gwynelle’s face, holding her hands together so hard trying not to just hug him like crazy! I’m sure I would feel the same… How lovely when she was given the go ahead! Bliss! So danged cute!
Children are so honest. They just cannot fake these things. Love the wonderful pictures.
Welcome home, USS Bataan Amphibious Group – after a “marathon” deployment of nearly 11 months! Job well done!
Beautiful photos, love the group hug! Great kids, really great president. He is the most full human being, a wide spectrum of talents and admirable qualities. He is a prize. People need to pay attention to what we’ve got and not let go.
My Gawd Chips!! love love the photos.

I expect the jackals to obsess about the super pac announcement. So I am bringing forward the post that meta provided in the previous thread that contains the facts about why the decision was made. I expect the jackals to pretend they are not aware of these facts.
Thank you meta.
====================
I receive emails from our OFA CA Communications Press Secretary every day, sometimes a few times throughout the day. This is a good one that clarifies several key aspects:
Obama for America to Support Priorities USA to Counter Outsize Influence of GOP Super PACs
Key Point: The Obama campaign will not unilaterally disarm while the Republican nominee benefits from unlimited spending.
* Obama for America has decided to support Priorities USA to help counter the weight of the Republican Super PACs. The campaign
will do so knowing and expecting all of Priorities USA’s donations to be fully disclosed to the Federal Election Commission, as required by
law.
* Some campaign, White House and Cabinet officials will attend and speak at Priorities USA fundraising events. They will fully comply
with all FEC guidelines. They will not raise money and will only appear at events to demonstrate support.
* The President, Vice President, the First Lady and Dr. Biden will not participate. They will stay focused on raising money for the Obama
campaign.
* The campaign is facing the reality of the law as it currently stands. Republican Super PACs have already spent $40 million, almost all of it on negative ads. Too much is at stake to allow two sets of rules, whereby Democrats unilaterally disarm while
the Republican nominee benefits from unlimited spending.
* Last week’s FEC filings showed that the Super PAC affiliated with Mitt Romney’s campaign raised $30 million last year from just 200
contributors.
* Romney personally helped raise money for this group, which is run by some of his closest allies.
* Other outside groups opposing the President are expected to spend half a billion dollars in addition to what the Republican nominee and
party will spend to try and defeat the President.
* The Supreme Court’s 2010 Citizens United decision allowed these Super PACs to receive and spend unlimited special interest money
from both corporations and wealthy individuals. This accelerated a dangerous trend toward a democracy increasingly dominated by big-money
interests, who can more disproportionately influence our elections and government.
* The President has consistently supported campaign finance reform and efforts to limit the influence special interests have over the political process. Mitt Romney supports unlimited contributions to campaigns and wants to roll back existing campaign-finance reforms.
Lots of good info here.

Until we can clean up the hot mess that the Supreme Court made, the President going to have to go w/ the CPACS. The repubs are so flush w/ cash from the CPACS; they think a win in November is inevitable. The Cons the MSM, and the PL’s can squawk all they want, did they really think PBO was going to let himself be bulldozed like that?
The President is a big kid at times. Talk about being well grounded. He’s my guy!
Group Hug! Absolutely gorgeous! Way cool to have the POTUS checking out your brilliance, and commending you for your work! A brighter future lies within the reach of these promising t
young people!
Hello friend, how are you doing?
Absolutely awesome pictures. The group hug with the young ladies and the little one who’s looking adoringly at POTUS had me in tears. POTUS said they are ESL students…Take that Myth Robme!

I think I’d have the same look of adoration!!
I guess jackal Jake Tapper needs to be schooled on the facts………………..
HEALTH REFORM, PREVENTIVE SERVICES, AND RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS
================================================
On January 20th, Secretary Sebelius announced that certain religious organizations including churches would be exempt from paying their insurers to cover contraception. Other religious organizations, including those that employ people of different faiths, can qualify for a one-year transition period as they prepare to comply with the new law. In recent days, there has been some confusion about how this policy affects religious institutions. We want to make sure you have the facts:
Churches are exempt from the new rules: Churches and other houses of worship will be exempt from the requirement to offer insurance that covers contraception.
No individual health care provider will be forced to prescribe contraception: The President and this Administration have previously and continue to express strong support for existing conscience protections. For example, no Catholic doctor is forced to write a prescription for contraception.
No individual will be forced to buy or use contraception: This rule only applies to what insurance companies cover. Under this policy, women who want contraception will have access to it through their insurance without paying a co-pay or deductible. But no one will be forced to buy or use contraception.
Drugs that cause abortion are not covered by this policy: Drugs like RU486 are not covered by this policy, and nothing about this policy changes the President’s firm commitment to maintaining strict limitations on Federal funding for abortions. No Federal tax dollars are used for elective abortions.
Over half of Americans already live in the 28 States that require insurance companies cover contraception: Several of these States like North Carolina, New York, and California have identical religious employer exemptions. Some States like Colorado, Georgia and Wisconsin have no exemption at all.
Contraception is used by most women: According to a study by the Guttmacher Institute, most women, including 98 percent of Catholic women, have used contraception.
Contraception coverage reduces costs: While the monthly cost of contraception for women ranges from $30 to $50, insurers and experts agree that savings more than offset the cost. The National Business Group on Health estimated that it would cost employers 15 to 17 percent more not to provide contraceptive coverage than to provide such coverage, after accounting for both the direct medical costs of potentially unintended and unhealthy pregnancy and indirect costs such as employee absence and reduced productivity.

HYPOCRISY: Romney Maintained Massachusetts Contraception Requirement That Mirrors Obama’s Rule

Anyone want to be $10,000 that the MSM doesn’t pick this up? Bush went from being the standard bearer for the Right to persona non grata in Repub circles and now he seems to be helping PBO. Hmmm…
*bet
I didn’t read that article…but I don’t think he mentioned that is was in fact President elect Barack Obama who asked him to do this on November 10, 2008.
Maybe he thinks no one will notice.
No he did not – - he is something else. Let’s tweet this to msnbc, we should not allow them to rewrite history:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/11/us/politics/11auto.html?_r=1&oref=slogin
No, he absolutely did not. He made it sound like his idea, in his usual stumbling way.
Some of us remember that Bush was way out of his depth during the days of the crisis, and he spent his days weepingly saying goodbye to his staff and signing baseballs. He wasn’t actually solving any problems.
These pictures and the event are so inspiring. While viewing them the first word that came in my mind was “hope”. There is hope for us when we have a President who embraces education, promotes science, math .And yes, the arts.
Our children are in such a special place to grow up in this space and time. I feel happy to be alive today. Regardless of my own personal challenges, I am just happy that our future scientists, math teachers, artists, actors, chefs will be able to tell their children they met a man who encouraged and embraced them with a group hug.
Even if you ate not there you can feel the President being proud of their hard work and achievements which will encourage them to press on, push foward.
And I might add, thanks to their President being harassed by a bully and name calling now, they are protected by law. As a child I remember taking up for a so-called nerd, who was actually and someone who was not accepted in the clique of the month. I am so glad that POB takes a stand for injustice. We are better off today so are these beautiful, talented children.
I mean this in the best possible way but the kid looks like less of a nerd than The President.
As an older adult, I am way past the thug in men…..LOL. I find nerd rather sexy anymore, especially when mixed with cool
Bush on auto bailouts: ‘I’d do it again’
By Paul A. Eisenstein, The Detroit Bureau
It has become one of the rare things that binds the two men, the controversial automotive bailout that was begun by former President George W. Bush and completed by his successor, President Barrack Obama.
The latter defended his actions during the recent state-of-the-union address, during which he declared “The U.S. auto industry is back.” His predecessor used a meeting of the nation’s auto dealers to defend his own actions, insisting he had no other choice but to completely sink the American economy.
“I’d do it again,” proclaimed Bush, speaking to the annual convention of the National Automobile Dealers Association.
The bailout, which ultimately totaled $85 billion, was originally begun during the waning days of the Bush Administration. With a specific rescue effort rejected by Congress, the former Commander-in-Chief decided to tap into a separate, $700 billion fund Capitol Hill did approve for the bailout of Wall Street and the banking industry.
“Sometimes circumstances get in the way of philosophy,” said the ex-president, during his speech in Las Vegas, referring to his normal stand in favor of free trade. “If you make a bad decision, you ought to pay,” he said, referring to the collapse of both General Motors and Chrysler.
But Bush also noted that coming on top of the failure of Lehman Brothers, the meltdown of the banking industry and the collapse of the housing market, a painful shift in policy was needed.
“I didn’t want there to be 21 percent unemployment,” he stressed, echoing forecasts at the time that the loss of GM, Ford and the automotive lenders also covered by the bailout could lead to the loss of 1 million jobs.
http://bottomline.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/02/07/10342178-bush-on-auto-bailouts-id-do-it-again
To quote one of my most disliked pundits — “What a d***”.
“I would have preferred to let them fail but since everyone else was failing [from their lies, greed, graft, corruption, fraud and my policies...] I decided I’d give them some of the money Hank Paulson asked for on the back of a napkin.”
And who structured the deal so the auto industry couldn’t do what the banks and Wall St. were doing with boatloads of taxpayer cash? President Obama.
But that would require at least one Republican to be honest and decent. No such animal exists.
I think the GOP asked former President Bush to come out of hiding just so they can take some of the credit for the auto industry comeback away from President Obama. There is not a single plan that was started by George Bush that, if not taken over and perfected by the Obama administration, would have stood a chance of completing successfully. After 10 years chasing Bin Laden, and giving up, President Obama is the one who caught him. After the GOP abandoning the TARP and voting against it, President Obama is the one who salvaged the second half (I give credit to Bush for not spending the entire amount), and actually put some rules in place to force the banks to pay back the money with interest. After badly running the war in Iraq and losing a trillion dollars and thousands of lives, President Obama is the one who called for an end-date which resulted in the SOFA agreement, and then calmly and responsibly executing the exit. After the GOP refused to bailout the auto industry, and Bush handing over a blank check with no conditions as his “bailout”, President Obama is the one who actually demanded that they draw up new restructuring and strategic plans, fired the non-performers, managed the bankruptcy and secured the loans, and then ensured that there was a man on the ground to help the communities deal with the process.
There is no credit to be shared here. President Obama took the mess that Bush left him, and made a success of it.
Pic #14 — that is the smile Chris Matthews spoke about last night
Can’t remember the exact quote but it was something like this – “that smile is worth 5 to 10 points…”
Remember his grandma Toot’s advice to him during the ’08 campaign? She simply said “smile more!”.
And I actually agree with Tweety on that one!
Wonder when Tweety is going to comment on JFK’s 19 year old girl friend?
lol, Am waiting for that too Bill.
He spoke about yesterday on his show ,and said he was going to be on rock center the same day as the intern.
thanks Lashawn – what exactly does that even mean? Did he give any context to that statement?
Once again, POB called out the phantom press, to do your job. He is forever teaching them.
I cannot wait until some young journalists are invited to the WH to show them how it is supposed to be done. Just report the facts not YOUR opinions, that’s all. Period…….
Do you think tomorrow there will be a positive rendition of this event on the editorial page of at least one national newspaper?
I doubt it because the President suggested it. Instead, probably how much money mitt robmey five boys are worth. Sad……real sad.
Remember how mad the Beltway Bozos got when he invited the local media from around the country? And then he had the nerve to let them ask questions.

The dueling press releases from Mitt Romney’s campaign and the DNC this afternoon shed light on a new issue in the campaign: contraception.
At a campaign event in Colorado last night, Romney criticized the Obama administration’s new contraception benefit rule, calling the decision ”a violation of conscience.”
“We must have a president who is willing to protect America’s first right, our right to worship God,” he said.
The DNC shot back today with a press release saying Romney’s campaign “misleads” on the issue, pointing out that Massachusetts’ health care law kept in place a similar contraception mandate.
“Romney is being hypocritical criticizing the President on contraception when his health care law kept in place a similar state mandate,” the release says.
http://www.politico.com/blogs/burns-haberman/2012/02/romney-dems-go-back-and-forth-on-contraception-113777.html
Thanks Jovie for this information already Newt Leroy is attacking Willard on this issue. May I know what’s up with this PBO walking out on Jeb Bush speech as reported by Byron of Politico & Fox?
The President attended the alfalfa event, where he spoke, but Jeb and the old man was up afterwards.
The President left, snd whereby this constitutes a snub.
If you ask me? You know the right wing philosophy? How dare the Black guy leave, blah blah!
But it is perfectly acceptable for Congressman Phil Gingrey to walk out while President Obama is speaking at the National Prayer Breakfast. And for Senator Orrin Hatch to go to the well of the senate and criticize President Obama for having the audacity to say “I am my brothers keeper, I am my sisters keeper”.

Jovie, these right wing haters are sick bastards. It’s okay for Joe Wilson to call the President a lie, it’s okay for Gov. Brewer to stick her finger in the President face, it’s okay for any and every Republican of all kind to disrespect this President and his wife. But how dare POTUS not hang around to hear Jeb and George H. Bush speak.
Given that we have a warm picture of the President with Jeb Bush and his father in the Oval office, on the same day that the President returned from a busy week of SOTU and a cross country tour, I think this is a false controversy.
And as I said yesterday about the ridiculous Alfalfa story, if PBO had stayed until the end and listened to all the speeches he’d have been accused of partying the night away with the 1%ers, while neglecting his duties.
And, of course, he’s never been shown any disrespect at all.
oh boy…here comes Jonathan Alter….. I hope he is over his PMS.
So Alter liked the Huntsman motorcycle ads. Yea Jonathan, too bad the voters were not impressed.
I love the look on the President’s face as he tries out these projects. He is having so much fun. And the look on the kids faces as they show him and meet him. We have an awesome President!!!!!!!!
You are indeed blessed to have him. I’d like to think he’s mine as well
I truly believe he is a gift to this world!
Think Progress: Why Obama’s Super PAC Decision Is The Best Way To Fight Citizens United
http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2012/02/07/420245/why-obamas-super-pac-decision-is-the-best-way-to-fight-emcitizens-unitedem/
President Obama made the only choice he could. In 2008, all presidential candidates spent a record setting $1.7 billion during their campaigns. Yet this amounts to less than one fifth of what Exxon earns in three months, and it is less than 8 percent of Adelson’s massive fortune. If just one major corporation or modern day viscount decides to go all in against Obama, they could effectively drown out the president’s ability to complete in this election. The American people deserve a choice in 2012, not an auction attended only by big money Republicans.
It’s important that the Obama campaign does not decide that last night’s decision requires them to stop campaigning hard against Citizens United and the flood of money it has injected into our system — especially because his opponent will certainly advocate for a very different vision of how democracy should work. This must include throwing his full weight behind state ballot initiatives and legislation that will mitigate the harmful effects of the Supreme Court’s decision until the day when that decision can be overruled.
Indeed, the 2012 election may be America’s last chance to fight the Supreme Court’s attempt to place elections up for sale to the highest bidder. Obama’s likely opponent, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, doesn’t just believe that “corporations are people,” and he hasn’t simply pledged to appoint more Supreme Court justices who support Citizens United. Romney actually believes that billionaires should be able to write unlimited checks directly to his campaign — one of the few limits on influence buying that the Supreme Court has not yet gotten around to destroying.
———————————-
I see some on the left are freaking out over the Obama campaign’s decision to accept super PAC money. At first I was a little disappointed, but then reality set in about two seconds later and I realized that this is the best way for Citizens United to be overturned eventually, somewhat ironically. Hit the right wingers with a taste of their own medicine, giving Obama a liberal Congress and Supreme Court, and hopefully seeing an end to super PACs and unlimited corporate financing of elections.
2012 is hugely important. Over the next five years, potentially 3 justices will retire on the Supreme Court. If Obama gets to pick those justices, this country will move in a decidedly liberal direction over the next generation. If it’s Romney (he only really needs to get to pick one), then it’s more of the same Reagan/Bush Republicanism that has screwed this country since the 1980s.
First – the President will certainly still be championing legislative measures to overturn Citizen’s United – it was boldly stated in the communication from Jim Messina. So, no fear that President Obama will back away from that, especially since he was the one who called out the Supreme Court to their face during his SOTU address.
Second – I actually didn’t even realize that they weren’t planning to use the SuperPAC until last night. I thought that since Bill Burton had formed Priorities USA, that they were already planning to go head to head with the GOP. But, I guess they weren’t actually aligned, like they will be now? Not sure what this decision means, really, other than raising awareness that the pro-President SuperPAC is that particular organization. Either way, I think it’s a good thing!
Dispatches from the Liberal Media ™:
I think the fact that Tucker Carlson and Andrew Breitbart received the same award tells us everything we need to know.
@debingle:”Beltway Bozos”. Now, that is too funny. It bothers me that they do not have a problem cashing their checks and boarding a plane whenever they are allowed to travel with Our Preaident. They sit in the press conferences as if they are doing us and the President a favor and they have arrived and suppoed to be their. Waiting to pounce on Jay smiling and smirking. As much as I appreciate Jay C. I cannot stand to watch anymore. The questions are pitiful, pathetic and snarky. Then they run away to their little cubby holes and tickle the ears and fantasy of the repugs (including their own).
I am so done with them. Do we have to put up with them for the next four years? Is there an expiration date?
The beauty is that when the President doesn’t have to face another election, the Administration will be a little free to speak their mind. When I saw AG Holder let it rip last week with that idiot GOP congressman, it dawned on me how much this Administration has had to suck it up with all the idiocy that they’ve seen from people who are completely unqualified to be sitting in the House of Representative and the Senate. I can’t wait until they are free to speak their minds. Not sure if that will ever happen though, but a girl can dream…
What the flip is Jonathan talking about Dems having a bad week with the contraceptive stuff? All the catholic is doing is moving people, particularly, women away.
It’s part of the game! Msnbc and the Washington post does not want to go against the Vatican. You know?
He forgot to take his Midol again.

Be sure to read the article by Sarah Poner in Religion Dispatches entitled “Four Catholic Men v. Obama”. The last sentence of the piece is priceless. It says “Maybe we’d know if any of the media outlets that published their opinions had asked a Catholic with ovaries.”
CATHOLICS, THE CONTRACEPTION MANDATE, AND PUBLIC OPINION
===========================
With all this Chicken Little talk flying around, I looked with more than average interest today at two new polls testing the reactions of Americans, and particularly Catholics, on the issue. If the contraception mandate is going to turn the entire election against Obama, it is not apparent from the numbers.
Here’s the key finding from Public Policy Polling’s survey:
A solid 56 percent majority of voters support the decision to require health plans to cover prescription birth control with no additional out-of-pocket fees, while only 37 percent are opposed. It’s particularly noteworthy that pivotal independent voters support this benefit by a 55/36 margin; in fact, a majority of voters in every racial, age, and religious category that we track express support. In particular, a 53 percent majority of Catholic voters, who were oversampled as part of this poll, favor the benefit, including fully 62 percent of Catholics who identify themselves as independents.

Morning Joe needs different pundits. They are completely wrong about the reaction, all of them.
I hope DrDemocrat sees this. He/She seemed overly concerned about a mass exodus by Catholics despite several examples that this just isn’t true. Maybe this article will put his/her mind at rest.
I had to laugh so hard at the “marshmallow launcher” A few years ago my Grandson built something similar but his was only capable of shooting those little marshmallows, however, we were all invited to the first launch and they did fly high. I have to say that it was a lot less messy than his bottle rockets powered by Mentoes. Our Prez is a big kiddo, boys and toys. I love it! This is where a love of science and invention begins and we need to nurture that in our young. Thank you, President Obama!
I know aquagranny911…I watch PBO going from each exhibit and when he got to that marshmellow launcher he was like a kid in candy store, he even had to get persistent for folks to move so he could see in work. It wa so cool. I used to be a avid viewer of Bill Nye the Science Guy on Saturday mornings and as an adult it was fun to watch…I bet PBO watched too before he had Malia and Sasha.
New post everyone:
