You can never see this enough:
Morning everyone, I’ll be back later today, chat away
Congrats on 1st!!!! Good morning!
Am I first? Tenth ? What no?
Good morning TOD – I wont’ even bother watching Sunday “Meet the Irrelevant Republicans” shows. Got better things to do. Thanks.
I SECOND THAT MOTION!..:(>
I never do either. but kudos to those of you who do as I learn from you what’s being said. I just can’t bring myself to watch as it just makes me mad for the rest of the day and that is not good for a Sunday.
Agree completely hp2, but I wonder why Jack Lew is on all the shows. Is there something (budget issues upcoming) that the GOP?/Teapug media want to inflame?
Yes! The President releases his budget Monday!
He is now Chief of Staff and is wearing that hat this morning.
I’m watching CBS Sunday Morning. full-on Whitney so beautiful.
I love that show….it’s the only sunday show I watch if I wake up early. I usually lay in bed because Meet the Press-stitutes makes me ill with their GOP-liar-fest.
Let’s hope the White House asked or arranged for Mr Lew to be on to discuss their agenda for going forward with the economy, jobs etc.
Looks like Jack Lew drew the short straw at the White House this week. I think it’s awesome the Obama Admin considers these talk shows irrelevant. POTUS goes right to local TV and radio and does prime time events. These shows probably have the same approval rating as Congress.
Actually, Gregorys show gets the fox news crowd, of 3.4 million viewers per show!
My point exactly. POTUS interview during Super Bowl was an audience of 111 million.
Gregory was all over TV last week almost gloating that BC issue was major problem for PBO. He’s GOP water carrier, to my mind.
If David Gregory is not a full blown Republican, he should be. He pushes rightwing talking points and rarely pushes back on any of their lies. I stopped watching about a year and a half ago. Yet, I still can’t get that picture of him dancing with Cheney out of my mind. Yuk
I’m sure they made a handsome couple:
The roundtable on MTP….Scarborough….it’s not enough that he’s on for 3 hours to spew his RW BS every morning.
Peggy Noonan *puke*
Too bad she’s on because I would have watch Bill Burton, I like him but I can’t watch that woman, not even a sec.
My sentiments, exactly.
I just watched Mr Lew on 2 shows, pretty damn good messenger.
He is going to be a good COS!
Glad to hear that!
Oh yeah he was absolutely phenomenal. I wanted to smack the crap out of Bob Schieffer though. Schieffer allowed McConnell to spew his BS unfettered then kept interrupting Jack Lew over and over and over again. I loooooooved how Lew ignored him and got his points across. He was polite, yet he wasn’t taking any crap. He was great. He’s a pretty good spokesman for PBO.
So how do I do the timeline thing?
I second that maryl1. For all us techno challenged, can someone (HOLLERING here) tell us how to do the timeline thing ???? Oh, and a good morning to all
Do you have facebook book? First change your layout.
Or if you already have the new facebook layout, go to your profile and click on the spot where the huge photo is at the top… mouse over it to the right and click “change cover”
Pick the Obama cover you want (copy it to your desktop and upload) and switch it.
All of them are gorgeous. I don’t know which one to pick.
Will try this, thank you collegekay. Hopelessly failed to get the little magic box thingy, fingers crossed this will work for me…
Duh. I guess it’s not for me… Oh well.
Thanks collegekay. I chose the laughter. Just cracks me up every time I look at it
Thank you very much. Just changed it.
Thanks, I’m sorry I didn’t see this response earlier. I’m still debating about whether I want to make this change. Do you feel it’s either more or less public that the old version?
Watching Up W/Chris Hayes. Rep. Sarbanes and Bo Biden, two men I support are on.
IF IT’S SUNDAY, IT’S MEET THE REPUBLICANS
Face The Republican Nation, Meet The Republicans and This Week With The Republicans are useless and a total embarrassment. These shows are where the Republican Party goes to lie and make stuff up and not be challenged by the hosts for making outlandish claims. I feel for COS Jack Lew making the rounds this morning. I expect the gasbags to be in rare form interviewing a member of the administration. You know there are different rules for Democrats.
I don’t always agree with Chris Hayes, but I like having another option for political discussion on Sunday morning. I thought Jared Bernstein was terrific. He is a doll. So intelligent and pragmatic, he just makes sense. I think he is an excellent surrogate for the administration. I also enjoyed Congressman John Sarbaines comments. I like what he is trying to do to deal with money in politics. He strikes me as a dedicated public servant trying to do the right thing for his constituents.
I did not connect with the law professor or the NY1 reporter at all. I thought the synergy of the panel was a bit flat today. Hence Chris had to do a lot more talking.
Santorum thinks the “people” not the courts should decide constitutional questions. Wonder how that would work. This guy cannot be serious.
As I’ve said before if there are any common sense Republicans out there who does not like what their party have become, there is no room in the Republican Party but for radical terrorists racists T-Party folks. And if there are any moderate Republicans who hate what has become of there Party, you are welcome to vote for a man who has a good heart, who loves his family, his country, who will fight for the poor and middle class, but he will be fair to the rich, someone who will tell you the truth, not what he think you want to know, and someone who will be respect of his opponent, without being nasty, racists. Hay sensible Republicans that man I’m talking about is President Obama.
And the far-right constantly accuses President Obama of going against the Constitution. Freakin’ unbelievable.
The Republicans forget that PBO was a Constitutional Law Prefessor, so if any knows the
Constitution is PBO the GOP is grasping for air and keep making shit up. Now if the Repub;icans
want to go against all women bring it on jusy ASK Susan G Kolman the mayority of Catholic Women
are with PBO and I am sure ther rest of all women are with PBO.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THAT VIDEO…WOW! THE MEMORIES…SOMEBODY PASS THE KLEENEX! I LOOK FORWARD TO REPEATING IT AGAIN!
Any chance Mr. Lew or a moderator will say: “Mr. Santorum you are a plain and hysterical liar about President Obama. Stop the absurd misinformation and talk about something else or leave the show. Oh and also please try to avoid judging the majority of Americans aginst your Mayberry fantasy that never existed to begin with.”
Love the term “Mayberry fantasy”…..yes, I’m old enough to really remember the mythical time they’re talking about. Some time I’ll give you all my 50′s rant…..not today though. Suffice it to say, that more girls got pregnant in my small town in Kansas than these people would believe….there were abortions, rushed marriages, trips to “aunts”….and women suffered through what was called the “change of life” with no help. NO, we don’t want to go back there!!!
Carolyn, I grew up in a small town in KS in the 50s too. Moved away at 18 to LA. Was a real culture shock for me.
Good morning Chips and wonderful people of TODville. I love that video.
Women in the 50s died of self induced abortion because it was so shameful to be caught pregnant. Women in the 50s could not be CEO’s of major corporations, could barely get an education, young girls did not know anything about sex so didn’t really know much about pregnancy(which was their fault if they got pregnant), or even STD’s for that matter. It was a dark time for women then.
Tell Santorum that Black folks weren’t treated to well in the fifties either, but maybe good old white boy Rick don’t give a dam.
Agree, Carolyn. People who fantasize the 50′s are nuts–the only good thing about it was the Broadway shows. For women, it was the pits. We had a place in our small town that was supposed to be a refuge for pregnant women from around the state. The poor girls were largely confined to the house, but when they did walk out to get some fresh air or go to the drugstore, people would stare at them and talk about them as “fallen” women or lost souls. I felt so sorry for these poor young women, but the whole thing terrified me as well, as kind of the worst thing that could happen to you if you were a girl. Girls who got pregnant ended up marrying creeps just for the “name” and had miserable marriages. Abortions were undercover activities in bad city neighborhoods, if you were lucky enough to find a doctor willing to break the law for money. A lot of girls would do anything to avoid telling their families that they were “ruined.” Some who did tell were “thrown out” with no place to go. If we were a society that worshiped idols (besides money) we would have little shrines to contraceptives in our homes. Contraceptives made us civilized; they made us free;they gave us choices; they allowed us to be women and not “girls.” They were as important to women’s liberation as the Declaration of Emancipation.”
Good Morning TOD family

I could use some help with how to take the images Chips linked to and put them on Facebook. There are great images, but need a “how to.”
WIW, there is a tutorial on the links collegekay provided, it will probably help you more than it did me!
Audit fails to turn up waste in Solyndra loan guarantee programs
wouldn’t it be nice if this story got as much play as the original scandal
Excellent; I hadn’t seen this. As always, greatly appreciate your efforts in pointing out ‘what is working’!
Everytime I hear or read of the “Solyndra scandal,” I automatically think of the $235 million dollar earmark given to Alaska for the “Bridge to Nowhere.” An earmark gotten by a Republican senator, Ted Stevens, and the “bridge” stopped by a Republican governor, Sarah Palin. Was the money ever returned? (a rhetorical question) However, where is the uproar about “wasted” taxpayer money!
Okay, I said I would make no more comments about the contraception controversy, but I had to get this off my chest.
We received a letter form CardinalGeorge, Archbishop of the Chicago Archdiocese strongly condemning the mandate.
I sent him an email which read;
I just finished reading your letter to the Archdiocese condemning the new Federal mandate covering coverage of birth control.
In addition to being full of half-truths as well as misleading information and a couple of outright lies, it also neglected to mention that this same mandate has been in effect for several years in multiple states wihtout anywhere near the outrage currently on display.
Nor did it mention that churches and organizations such as the Archdiocese is exempt from this ruling.
Nor did it mention that this rule has been out there for several months and, in fact, had not been established as a final rule but was open for public discussion.
Nor did it mention that abortion inducing drugs are not included under this rule.
In crying out about having your First Amendment rights being abused, you try to impose your view upon all people, including non-Catholics.
You use the argument taht people should not be forced to pay for cverage they would not us, yet I have to pay fr coverage that includes covering for pregnancy and delivery evn though I, as a male, would never need that coverage.
It might help if you actually took the time to understand what insurance is and how it is managed.
I am Catholic andproud of my faith, but I have more difficulty being proud of my Church that is displaying more outrage at this, which not only is practical, prevents abortions and assist women in their healthcare, then it did when confronted with priests abusing children and bishops covering up for those priests.
Japa21, well done.
EXCELLENT LETTER…DO NOT ALSO FORGET THE FACT THAT MOST OF THE CLERGY HAPPENS TO BE REPUBLICAN. CONSIDERING ALL OF THE PEDOFILE PROBLEMS THEY’VE HAD AND HIDING THE FACT,TRANSFERRING PRIESTS,ETC…IT’S KIND OF LIKE A GLASS HOUSE THROWING STONES! I TOO WAS A CATHOLIC AND WAS A VICTIM OF ONE OF THEIR PRIESTS AS A LITTLE GIRL…I SWORE I WOULD NEVER RAISE MY CHILDREN IN THAT CHURCH! IF YOU DELVE BACK INTO HISTORY..YOU WILL ALSO FIND,PARTICULARLY IN GERMANY WHERE NUNS HID THEIR BABIES…THOSE REMAINS FOUND IN WALLS.
Sue, I’m sorry you have suffered in this way.
I’m so sorry, Sue. I wish these false prophets (The Bishops) would spend more time investigating the atrocities laid at their feet by their own priests and stop borrowing trouble by harassing women’s rights.
I’m so sorry that you have suffered from this. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Send the letter to axelrod twitter! He needs to know what they are sending!
I am sure he knows. This is getting a lot of play in Chicago. To me it is a desparate last gasp from a bunch of men who see their relevancy diminishing andt are trying to regain some fo the old power they had.
The thing about the Catholic church is that almost every Catholic I’ve spoken to or have heard speaking publicly about this says that they’re proud of the work the church does for under-priviledged and needy people, and their focus on the poor. Maybe this is what they should focus on, especially when these groups are under attack by the very Republicans with whom these Bishops are now aligning. Do the good that people praise, not the bad that people despise.
Yep. I agree Jovie – Excellent response Japa. I think if The Axe doesn’t already know about this it wouldn’t hurt to send it to him.
Thank you japa21. Excellent work.
G’day japa21. I just hit the deck and would like to co-sign your note. Smack-on!
Great job! They need to get MILLIONS, just like this!
And so get shall, let’s GO!
*they (Hee, predictive text topples me yet again!)
Thank you; more Catholics (and I am in that group) need to stand up for what they believe is correct. It is not sacrilege to stand up for what we believe in when it is ‘manmade rules of the Church’.
Here’s my email to the Bishops re-posted from yesterday. Email them, not that they will listen but it will make you feel better.
“As a former Catholic, I rejoice in your continued resistance to birth control because it means that you will push more and more people away from the Catholic Church. I rejoice in that knowledge that the Catholic Church is obsolete in everyone’s minds but your own.The horrific child abuse cover-ups and your own repressed sexual issues have made you the living symbol of hypocrisy in this 21st century. You will surely lose this birth control battle, along with what little credibility the Catholic Church has as a moral force in this world. That is the comforting silver lining in all of this, you are waging a PR battle over women’s rights and gay rights that won’t be won. That shipped sailed in the 14th century and will NEVER return. Deal with it. Ghandi said it perfectly: “I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.”
YOU GO, Edwina, fantastic response, in their face! I do hope they read it and get millions more like it. I shall send one as well, although I left the CC so long ago they no longer affect me, but they DO still continue to hurt many who so wish to keep believing in their teachings. I found that religion was inhibiting my spirituality, and growing into my Body of Light became much more vital to me. Through diligent study and building a deep meditation practice, I was able to overshadow the early influence on my mind and heart, freed myself. I echo Ghandi, no problem with Christ, big problem with those who distort His teachings for personal gain.
Thanks, Pamela. Although I left the CC a long time ago, they still have the ability to summon up rage in me that is at times overshadowing. I have also done much spiritual study and meditation but the hypocrisy of religions remains a huge area of unforgiveness for me. Awhile back I was influenced strongly by this book, “Love without conditions, reflections of the Christ Mind” and I may have to revisit that book STAT. One line from the author of that book who felt that Jesus spoke through him was , “Don’t let the worldly men in the priestly robes, block your relationship with me.” Unfortunately,I have allowed my anger to block my relationship with my own divine self. The next level of my spriritual development is to love the Christian while not loving what the “wordly men in the priestly robes” do in the name of Christ. It’s a tall order that I hope to realize for the sake of my own inner peace.
Edwina, have you read anything about the lost Gospels of Thomas?
“Jesus said: Do not look for me in places built of wood or stone but pick up a twig or a rock and I am there. Look deeply into the eyes hearts of each other and I am there.”
I know I didn’t get that quote exactly right but you can see why the church fought so had to repress these gospels. We do not need intermediaries or interpreters to connect with the divine. The divine lives in each of us and in this earth we share.
It’s saying 77:
77 Jesus said, “I am the light that is over all things. I am all: from me all came forth, and to me all attained.
Split a piece of wood; I am there.
Lift up the stone, and you will find me there.”
THIS IS WHY I LOVE LIBRARIANS!!!
Great response. Thank you so much for sending it Japa.
japa21, I wish this email could go to the media and many other people. I thank you. It was a made up controversy by the bishops, the republicans, and the media. If the economy weren’t improving they wouldn’t have given this any attention. They were playing politics with women’s lives and it is a down right shame.
Just wanted to add my voice in thanking you for sending this great response back.
Japa, I’m so proud of you for standing up to the Cardinal. It is so easy for cardinals and bishops to sit upon their exalted chairs far removed from the needs and concerns of real women. Only their own power matters.
Bravo, Japa! This is a very strong and thoughtful response to the Archbishop.
Great video from HHS
The state of women’s health
Is Peggy Noonan a Hack? Duh! Who cares about Ronald Reagan? Way Over rated!
These are not questions. These are facts.
The Reagan worshippers always seem to leave out the fact that ole Ronnie didn’t know what was going on around him for most of his first term and all of his second term. Sad? Sure….but not exactly waht you want in a president.
Also that he raised taxes several times, strengthened Socil Security and other things.
The only positive thing I remember about Reagan was that he raised the sale of jelly beans around the country. All of the candy stores started stocking heaps of jelly beans in lots of new flavors when he revealed he ate them every day. I LOVED jelly beans–especially the black ones.
Not to mention the fact that a whole generation of people were born, grew up, completed high school, graduated college and started careers since Reagan’s presidency. He is just irrelevant to anything in their experience. Then there was a whole generation who were actually kids at the time RR was pres. and whose conscious memory of a president was Clinton or GW. I belonged to a whole chunk of people who couldn’t stand the guy, never listened to him and thought he was a waste of presidential space. So the ‘worshiping’ crowd gets smaller, older, and more disconnected with each passing year.
seriously? when is she gonna get over it? I wonder what Nancy has to say about this hack?
That Noonan witch acts as if she was married to Ronnie “the Saint ” Reagen. She drools when she talks about him. Of course I can’t stand her, haven’t listen to the witch in years.
I have never been able to stand her. The way she talks like every single word is so profound. When she closes her eyes I feel like slapping her.
Iran-Contra. That’s all..
exactly. funny how that never gets a mention when the rethugs are claiming to be reagan’s annointed.

Russell Crowe’s tweet:
“Barack Obama has improved the World’s view of America dramatically. In times like these, you need a leader who can see the Global picture.”
say waaaah?!!! Nice! Never been a fan of his, but the sentiment is much appreciated, Mr. Crowe!!
He’s pretty awesome, Lisa, have you watched his movies, or listened to his music, he’s a fine musician.
Haven’t listened to his music, Pamela and I think…….. ah….. No, flipping through channels and briefly spying one of his movies isn’t watching it…..hm. No I guess I haven’t watched any of his movies either. I think my problem with him was always his behavior and his temper off the set. Much like Christian Bale on set.
I know, but some of that is a bad rap on him, you know the media! If you haven’t watched his movies, of course Gladiator is his Oscar winning film, but it is so powerful and a little on the violent side (it was that roman era) I can’t watch it anymore. Proof of Life with Meg Ryan is a brilliant movie, and i think he should have been given an Oscar for Beautiful Mind, he was amazing in that. I haven’t seen all his movies, but have recently watched Robin Hood which I did enjoy. He spent a while on Broadway as a younger actor, is known for some excellent work there. Check him out, I think you won’t be disappointed.
I think LA Confidential and The Insider are also great films.
Did you ever see Master and commander? His best performance imho
Oh, yes, Master and Commander, loved him in that!
I started to feel positively about Russell Crowe when I saw how much in love he was with his wife, and how he was so sentimental and soft about it. Put him in a whole new light for me. He’s got some anger issues, but I think the media blows some of his bad stuff out of control. How much can we really know about people in their private lives, anyway?
Exactly, we cannot know, but we do know the media likes to sell magazines … Anyway, I think Mr. Crowe is very happily married, and loves being a Daddy! I imagine he is a pretty cool Dad! Eh?
Actually, Danielle Spencer is a very talented singer, song-writer and musician in her own right. My daughter took me to hear her in concert in November when I was in Sydney, and I was very favorably impressed, though I do not go to concerts much anymore.
huh. well what do you know? retweeted him.
@russellcrowe(verified). He’s a prolific tweeter, very generous to his followers, likes to retweet for charities and worthy causes.
George Soros is on GPS and said he will definitely vote for PBO. The Republicans heads will be exploding.
Nice! Let’s hope he also contributes to the super PAC.
That’s nice and all, but we really need him to contribute to our Super PACS like Priorities USA and gather up his friends and direct them to our Super PACS.
We have no control over how he contributes his money, but it is very helpful when he is praising PBO to Fareed Zakaria on worldwide teevee.
Faux noise Bill-O-The-Clown and Sham-ity’s collective heads will explode.
Real clear politics average of polls has tge Prez at +2-
Now, cross fingers on Greece vote today!
G’morn shipmates. Got a fairly early start, for me, and as usual the MSM is at it. If the idiot box isn’t showing some rwnj, it’s speculating about poor Whitney.. Her music was great but we’re gonna talk about the more salacious aspect of her existence. It’s sickening.
Frankly, it’s all sad. She probably had more talent than her Relatives. Their has got to be some sort of legislation, That helps this situation.
Thus, I am mad, because I love her and her music.
Whitney was a beautiful woman with amazing talent. I’m still trying to wrap my head around her being barely 8 years older than my oldest child! She was just a kiddo! Dang, I’m getting old faster than I like but her music was timeless. She is a gift that will keep on giving and I hope she has now found some peace and rest.
Scarborough was to the left of Peggy Noonan. Maybe the pushback from the democratic Senators, helped,
You should rewind MTP, just to look at Peeggy Sue’s face, after Joe said that Democrats will win this fight- if it is about contraception.
It was priceless. She was livid!
Yes, Joe, the Dems will win if the argument is about contraception.
Jovie, I had the same thought watching them.
Funny. That made the whole show!
Oh, sweet. So, I guess Joe will stop beating this to death on his show.
Jerkface S. is a complete troll. why is he still on MSNBFOX? Shouldn’t he have run off to the real deal by now?…… HOAX news?
I just had to log on and post something about the loss of Whitney Houston. It is a horrible loss
I have been watching this whole fabricated Contraception “debacle” and will only say one big FU to the Gop loons and Catholic Bishops who are child molesting enablers who think they have a right to dictate their beliefs on everyone; even those who aren’t Catholics . I mean no insults to my Catholic friends as I was raised Catholic myself and left the church about 18 years ago at about 12 years old; something didn’t feel right and not a lot of people in my family supported that decision but I have to say most now have left the church as well .
These folks seem to think that the President takes order from the Vatican? Do they need to be reminded of Separation of Church and State?
I also most importantly want to say THANK YOU to President Obama for standing for women in the face of such backlash. It was brave of him and he didn’t waver and he also got the loons to lose their collective shit on national tv and thus giving the Obama campaign free material for ads especially Romney whose financially benefiting from all of this on the side and getting away with it in the so-called “liberal” media
Like Charlie Sheen would say : W. I. N. N. I. N. G
My mother and I have been doing well. She apparently has 10 rehab sessions to go and is planning on going back to work mid March. She is quite honestly doing a lot better than I am. I am really taking it easy these days and even let mom go to 2 sessions by herself.
It is very cold in Chicago this week and will snow so I’ll take her this week.My brother finally decided to get off his royal backside and found himself a job at night and when he isn’t at work and sleeping ;he makes sure to go to his gf’s house; so not home to help
I miss my TOD family very much and want to thank Chips again for this wonderful site.Thank you for the love;support and prayers and to those like HZ who are also going through hardships I send lots of love.Hang in there
until next time TOD family;
Hiya Fred. Good to hear from you. Feel better and big (((((((((hugs))))))
Thanks for your update, Fred, good to hear about your Mother’s continued improvement, also good you can find a bit of downtime, sounds like the worst is behind you. Ditto on the CC crapola, I left the church at 18, but am 61 now, and seeing in hindsight how deep the damage can go into the psyche. It takes a long time to undo, but you got out early and are still young, good for you, you might be able to set it down sooner than many who struggle still.
Good to see you Fred. Glad to hear that your mom is doing well and that you are able to take it easier, I have been thinking of you and wondering how you were doing.
Blessings to you Fred!!! You are in our thoughts. I know that being the caretaker is almost more exhausting. Just know that the TOD family is thinking of you and I agree with everything you said!!!!!
So nice to see you, Fred:) I actually think of you everyday… a lot of us do, and were hoping that things are going well for you and your Mom. Glad to hear that she is doing much better now….it was a long haul, but if she’s planning on going back to work in mid March….well, things are good.
I see how resentful you are of your brother. I can certainly understand. When selfish and self serving smack you in the face like that,it’s very hard NOT to be resentful.Karma will work that one out. Let it go.You have to get on with your life…that negative energy will suck the life from you, and it’s just not worth it.You now know exactly where he stands. No mistake. At least he got a job, and if he goes to the GF’s house…GOOD! That means he’s not in YOUR way! Maybe he’d like to MOVE IN with her! That would clear things up
You’re a kind soul, Fred….loved and thought of here all the time. Just wanted you to know that.We think of our dear HZ the same way….she’s been around more frequently the last few days, and I know that we all love to see her here. She’s an angel:)
And by the way…spot on with the BC comment! You haven’t lost your touch. Hugs and well wishes to you and your Mom. Take good care and be careful in the cold and snow. We’re here for you….Hugs!
Hiya Fred. So good to hear from ya. Super glad things are on the upswing. MAINTAIN!
Great to hear from you Fred, so glad you’re back and that your mom is doing so much better. Keep fighting the good fight.
Fred!! So glad to “hear” your voice. Sounds like your mom is coming along. Good I’m glad you are taking care of yourself. It’s the Caregiver that gets so worn out in these situations. Remembering to eat and get some rest can be challenge enough. Take care and God Bless You.
Very good to see you Fred.
I am glad, Fred, to hear that your mom is doing a lot better after her knee surgery. I had been following your posts with interest and some fear as I am due to have the same surgery the end of next month. Thanks for posting the upside besides the earlier downside. I have a better total picture now, but am still uneasy.
Hola Fred, hang in there Kiddo! Great post and great thoughts. Try to forgive your Bro and let go. I know it is hard but the anger & resentment hurts you more than him. You can hold on to the thought that at least he is working. It’s irritating but sometimes you just have to accept the world as it is and do your best just like our PBO. My heart to you and your Mom ♥
Now that your mom’s on the road to recovery, please take care of yourself. Sometimes when we care so much for others, we forget to do the little things that make life bearable for ourselves.
I love your avatar, Fred. Glad your mom is on the mend. She’s lucky to have you.
Oh Fred, I am shouting with joy in my soul and feet for this wonderful news. Oh Fred this is such great news about your precious Mom. What a blessing to hear that she is doing better and that she is healing so beautifully. Oh my goodness, I am so happy for you. I know that when we stick together with our love, positive energies, gratefulness and constant pouring out of goodness, we will be fine and the healing will come.
Fred, please give Mom a great big hug for me. I am so excited for her and for you. Now, I want you to take care of your space as well. Fill it with the joys that make you the whole person that you need to be in order to get through all of this. I know that our love for our family is not easy to share during some of our trials, but remember to pray a lot, meditate on those things that you want and need to change for the better., okay.
Now take very good care of yourself, please. We miss you, we love you, and we need your spirit around this place as well. I will continue to keep you and Mom in my prayers and keep the candles burning for that bright and shining light that you send out as well to all of us here.
Thanks for sharing the progress with us. I will promise to keep you in my thoughts and your brother as well. Remember to focus on those things that you can change. Keep you spirit filled with the goodness of your heart and drink from the goodness of those around you. Be strong, my dear one, and here come the ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))Love you back so very much.HZ
Big headlines on Politico-
Obama seeks return of the cool!
What does that even mean?
It means they want hits…..
Right to the point, Pamela!
Maybe he is going to start wearing sweater vests like Santorum or jeans at all of his campaign appearances like Willard. Both of them are so “cool”.
Jovie, since when have you tried to understand Politico. Don’t waste your time. All you need to know is they are a right wing rag, blog or whatever you want to call them.
now that i’ve thought about it, maybe they mean his playlist.
OK, this is so cool:
Wearing my obama shirt to mass today #obama2012— Emmanuel (@nidan14) February 12, 2012
meta, I hope Emmanuel doesn’t get toss out of mass.
good grief – poor Jack Lew having to face allll the ugly liars today. What a day for him.. I don’t watch tv news at all.. so I hope all goes well for him.
I thought he did a great job, much better than Bill Daley. He was very confident and gave the impression things are under control.
thanks Bill for that info
Mr. Lew can be very effective with some of the constituencies who watch these shows ( ex. middle-aged imdependants and moderate repiblicans). He comes off as a very competent, calm, pragmatic, no-nonsense guy.
Much like the president. He was a great surrogate today. The marked difference between Gregory’s angry demeanor with Lew and his almost fawning, smiling face with Santorum was ungodly.
This morning’s MUST READ
LINDSTROM, Minn. — Ki Gulbranson owns a logo apparel shop, deals in jewelry on the side and referees youth soccer games. He makes about $39,000 a year and wants you to know that he does not need any help from the federal government.
“I don’t demand that the government does this for me. I don’t feel like I need the government,” said KI GULBRANSON, who counts on an earned-income tax credit and has signed up his children for free meals at school.
He says that too many Americans lean on taxpayers rather than living within their means. He supports politicians who promise to cut government spending. In 2010, he printed T-shirts for the Tea Party campaign of a neighbor, Chip Cravaack, who ousted this region’s long-serving Democratic congressman.
Yet this year, as in each of the past three years, Mr. Gulbranson, 57, is counting on a payment of several thousand dollars from the federal government, a subsidy for working families called the earned-income tax credit. He has signed up his three school-age children to eat free breakfast and lunch at federal expense. And Medicare paid for his mother, 88, to have hip surgery twice.
Read this on another blog. Color me shocked at these hypocrites.
criminy that ticks me off. these asshats that sign their kids up for free breakfast and have parents that have benefited from medicaid yet are all up in arms about government “handouts” . Really? Maybe they’d feel better if their children were hungry and their parents were not taken care of. grrrrr
All I can say is that ignorance is blissful for these people.
“I’m glad I’m not a politician,” he said. “We’re all going to complain no matter what they do. Nobody wants to put a noose around their own neck.” This was the last line in that article as those folks walk up the steps of their personal gallows. (SMH)
I know most of us still have Andrew Sullivan in the dog house after his SOTU write-up, but here is his latest..worth a read.
“The more Machiavellian observer might even suspect this is actually an improved bait and switch by Obama to more firmly identify the religious right with opposition to contraception, its weakest issue by far, and to shore up support among independent women and his more liberal base. I’ve found by observing this president closely for years that what often seem like short-term tactical blunders turn out in the long run to be strategically shrewd. And if this was a trap, the religious right walked right into it.”
If the economy is still going strong, what rationale do people have to elect Romney? While, Santorum, he of culture war fame, will tow the line against everything the Christian Right hates. Hmmm, Romney may not be the front runner after all.
LOL, if the economy isn’t going strong there still is no rational to elect any of those right wing radical conservatives nuts.
Oh, I was speaking as to the rationale behind Mitt’s campaign. There is never a reason to elect a GOoPer. Romney’s whole schtick is that he is the man for the economy, even though he only destroys jobs and not create them- but I digress.
He just now figured this out? AH! There are many more slow learners where he came from.
I had an evil thought I wanted to share, then will drop the BC issue.
What if all the practicing Catholic women put notes in the collection box that read ” no donation, contributing to reelection of officials who respect women’s health” or “no donation this month, Bishops need to leave my health care alone”.
The Catholic Church will pay attention if donations are down.
A lapsed Catholic with a wicked idea……
I like that idea. Sounds like a winner. I’m in. MONEY TALKS.
Terrific idea! Money talks, so maybe bs will walk.
Brilliant, though I’m not Catholic. Economic boycott is the best kind. Siding with their nemesis would be sweeter.
That’s not evil, WiW! That is a righteous protest! Every Sunday they pass the plate for big donations only to think they can tell women what they can and can not do? Money = power…..I think that’s a FINE IDEA!!!
I modified this to tweet it. GREAT idea!
bah ha ha. Linda. Betsy I’ll look out for your tweet and RT it.
LOVE IT!!!!!! That would hit them were it hurts, in the pocket. I am afraid that I have lost faith in religion, I still have a strong and abiding faith in God and Jesus Christ but find certain aspects of organized religion hypocritical. I understand that many of my dear friends here hold different views and I sincerely apologize if my comments here offend – that is NOT my intention. I think that the ‘religious right’ use religion for their own ends and therefore do not live by the teachings of Christ. My husband and his family are Catholics but do not agree with all the edicts of the Church.
here ya go Linda. Message 1

What if all practicing Catholic women put notes in collection box that read ”no money4 u anymore, but4 candidates who r pro birth control"!— Betsy (@bbkenn92) February 12, 2012
LOOOOOVE IT! Money talks and BS walks! This needs to go viral!
this is a great idea. may i add the catholic men should do the same?
the men who understand we’re all one human family, and nobody’s free till everybody’s free, and women’s rights are human rights. and the men who recognize the costs of contraceptives on the family budget, and the costs of raising children. also, men who understand why women need contraception…that they are directly involved in all this!
sorry for the rant, but i think we let ourselves down when we let men off the hook for issues of contraception, birth, child care, etc. no baby is conceived without some man’s participation, so these are issues for us all.
how powerful for men to put a note in the collection plate:
i’m a man who supports a woman’s right to contraception, and i’m making a donation to that cause this month, not to the church that denies that right.
Looks like these MEN are going to have this BC fight!
“The fact that the White House thinks this is about contraception is the whole problem. This is about freedom of religion, it’s right there in the First Amendment. You can’t miss it — right there in the very first amendment to our Constitution,” McConnell said. “What the overall view on the issue of contraception is has nothing to do with an issue about religious freedom.”
McConnell went on to embellish the argument, claiming Obama is being “rigid in his view that he gets to decide what somebody else’s religion is.”
House GOP leaders also said Friday they will move forward with legislation to repeal the contraception rule in its entirety. Republicans from both chambers are aligning themselves with the Catholic Bishops who say the new policy remains unacceptable.
The push indicates either that Republicans believe there’s still an opportunity to score political points against Obama, or that they’ve simply calculated they cannot back down now. Regardless, the success of the strategy now rests on the gamble that Republicans will be able to continue framing the issue as one over religious liberty and not contraception, despite the new accommodation Obama carved out
He wants to have this fight? REALLY? Bring it on, FU****!!!!!!!!!!.
Did he mention where he gets such authority ? I don’t believe they can repeal Agency rules…….
If churches were exempt from the mandate, how is this an attack on religious freedom? A hospital or university is not a church, even if it’s run by catholics church. This shows how desperate McConnell is, and for the bishops to walk hand in hand with the Republicans shows that they cook up this made up controversy.
seriously? he wants to continue the culture wars? for realz? why don’t they take the out PBO gave them on Friday and move on? this is not a smart idea. today, more people than not think that gays should have the right to get married. More people today believe in contraceptive use, especially catholics. WTF are these idiots thinking? what were they doing at that stupid retreat in january? drinking bong water? I’m telling you, these tools are one step away from irrelevancy.
Will they make the little blue pill and surgery, etc. to deal with ED illegal UNLESS it will ONLY be prescribed, under the authorization of doctor and church, when sex for males is for reproduction and NOT for pleasure?
And will they throw every child abuser and enabler in the church in jail?
Does the US Senate have so little else to do than waste taxpayer dollars on foolishness. MCConnel’s brain has gone soft, he loves to make an ass of himself. I could care less about that, but don’t use my hard earned money doing it.
That’s it, Pamela. All the Democrats need to do is point out that these exercises are taking attention away from improving the job situation. None of these bills will go anywhere and they will expose the Republicans are the pandering idiots they are. Let the GOP image be the repellent McTurtle railing against women’s right to health care. Let them all stand up on their hind legs and bray.
It’s been my thought for years that the Catholic church has wanted women to not be given the choice to interfere with reproduction of children like years ago when they had one baby after the other. In their selfish reasoning they knew that to keep the Church powerful and alive they had to have a congregation and how better than to prevent the women from any access to prevention of birth control. This is the true reason they want those babies being born. Keep the church strong by increasing its numbers and input of money..
You have always been right about this, and not alone in your thinking.
Yes, Baby, but they don’t realize that genie left the bottle decades ago and it’s not coming back.
To all the tweeters: Tweet that idea. It is a good one.
Ha-ha, no. On their first round of balloting, Americans Elect’s top four candidates were:
1. Ron Paul
2. Jon Huntsman
3. Bernie Sanders
4. Barack Obama
Recalling that Americans Elect’s board retains the right to overrule the will of the people who vote in their online balloting process (which can and does make their entire enterprise out to be a stupid joke),
I’m shocked PBO is on their list.
I was surprised also.
Actually, putting PBO’s name 4th is just their decoy to make it seem like they’re non-partisian. But really, the fact that he’s not in the top 2 spots which oh so happens to be occupied by TWO REPUBLICONS, tells me all I need to know. It’s a bullyshyte Republican-invented proposition to put a Republican back in the WH.
Ameri-cons Elect = FAIL
Reworded: to prevent women from access to birth control.
Is McConnell willing to support his colleagues’ plans to ensure that more and more organizations can opt out of providing women with adequate health care? Of course! Because: Freedom!
McConnell will allow a vote on the president’s budget, however, so look forward to that, I guess!
teehee….what a fool !
Jennifer Hudson is going to give a special tribute to Whitney Houstan tonight on the grammys. This is so appropriate since Whitney came out of exile to attend a preparty to encourage Jennifer when she sang the first time before winning any awards in front of the powerful of Hollywood. On the tape you can hear Whitney saying ” go baby” “thats the way” ” “sing baby.” Jennifer was fresh and young and Whitney was there for her to give her confidence.
Let me go listen to something more uplifting, let me go listen to FLOTUS speech in Florida yesterday.
Only Jennifer Hudson could do her proud. I have been so sad about this, went to bed with it, woke up with it. I love my music, and Whitney in her prime was the best ever—–that powerful, pure tone. And I loved everything about her, her face, her style—-her clothes, always beautiful and perfect for her and fit like a glove—- loved her sass, my kind of gal. Like so many, I was hopeful she could one day overcome all her troubles. It was not to be, but at least we have her recorded voice which will last forever. I imagine it will be an emotional night at the Grammys.
All of this. Thank you for I know I wouldn’t have been able to transfer my thoughts to words as you so eloquently did.
INSTEAD OF CONTINUING TO KEEP THE CONVERSATION GOING ON THE SUBJECT OF THE CHURCH AND BIRTH CONTROL…LET’S MOVE FORWARD…I THINK THE PRESIDENT’S GOT IT!
Did the Catholic Bishops and Republicans get it? Some made up controversy by them. How disgusting. Playing politics with women’s lives.
THE GOP WILL NEVER GET IT BECAUSE FIRST OF ALL IT WAS PROPOSED BY OUR PRESIDENT. NOW IF G.W. HAD DONE IT…YOU WOULDN’T HEAR A WORD. THE CHURCH LOVES IT BECAUSE THIS DISCUSSION IS A DISTRACTION FROM THEIR OWN VERY SEVERE PROBLEMS. THIS IS THE SAME KIND OF STUFF THAT WAS GOING ON WHEN G.W. RAN….DISTRACTION. ACTUALLY, I’M BETTING LOTS OF THESE GOPERS PREFER BIRTH CONTROL BECAUSE THEY MAY NOT NECESSARILY BE SPENDING ALL OF THEIR TIME WITH THEIR WIVES.
Hello Everyone, it’s a GREAT MORNING in CHICAGO. Then I read on TPM that the GOP is going to fight to let ANY employer opt out of providing birth control coverage to women…. Could we be this lucky? Is it possible? http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/02/mcconnell-gop-will-push-to-let-any-employer-deny-contraception-coverage.php?ref=fpa
Only because they know it won’t go anywhere, they don’t have the votes to over-ride a veto from the president….what a bunch of time wasters. I wonder if the GOP moneyfunders will tell them to knock-it off they’re about to lose the women vote permanately.
I commented above about just how damned stupid these people are. Do they not realize that women can vote and that 99% of women use or have used birth control and would like for it to be covered under the insurance that comes from their employers? Don’t they realize that they need women’s votes and that this will only piss us off more? My goodness. These people have no foresight.
Is that a bad thing? Makes our jobs that much easier.
Santorum said this AM he was the Ritchie Cunningham Candidate, well too bad for his because Ritchie Cunnigham endorsed President Obama:
Yes he did.
Why Do Liberals Support Drone Strikes?
12:42 pm EST February 8th, 2012
There is a little bit of garment-rending in progress about a new Washington Post poll that shows liberals strongly supporting the government’s program of using drones to take out terrorist targets. I don’t quite understand the confusion.
When it comes to taking out terrorists not on U.S. soil we have three options:
1. Let them go free
2. Use drones, incurring collateral damage
3. Put troops on the ground, putting soldiers at risk along with incurring collateral damage
The option of using international cooperation to round up these guys — the preferable option — is simply not viable in Pakistan, where much of this activity is taking place. As the Bin Laden operation showed us, terrorists are able to operate within a stone’s throw of Pakistan’s government without them lifting a finger to stop it. Their government is an impediment.
So, faced with those three options, we’ve opted for the drones. They are not perfect by a long stretch, but after over a decade of combat in Iraq and Afghanistan, it is the least bloody option that kills terrorists.
GOP Continues To Oppose Contraception Coverage Plan Now Supported By Large Catholic Institutions
Ryan’s own heavily-Catholic home state of Wisconsin currently mandates contraception coverage without any exclusion for religious institutions. As ThinkProgress reported, Marquette University, a Jesuit institution located in Milwaukee, even decided to offer contraception coverage prior to the state’s mandate.
White House Chief of Staff Jack Lew repeatedly defended President Obama’s decision on several Sunday morning TV shows. “It does not force an institution that has religious principle to offer or pay for benefits that they find objectionable, but it guarantees a women’s right to access,” Lew said on Fox News Sunday. “Hopefully now this will set the issue to rest.”
Funny, where are the GOP/TP women in the opposition of contraception? Are they letting the “men” dictate what they should be for? Why even have republican women in office if they only take direction from the men in the party?
SENATORS SNOWE AND COLLINS LOCK ARMS WITH MARCO RUBIO
Snowe, Collins Reverse Themselves on Contraception Coverage
Both Senators have now announced their support for a bill sponsored by Senator Marco Rubio which would exclude not just Catholic-related groups, but would allow any employer to deny coverage of birth control to their employees simply by stating that it was done for religious reasons.
Snowe and Collins seem to be attempting to split hairs on their reversal, noting that the previous bill they supported was a mandate on insurance companies, not employers, and that while it had no exemption at all for religious organizations, they had some plans to include one at a later date.
The statements they made at the time, highlighted by Jonathan Riskind in his blog, however, show that the issue was once one of fundamental equity.
hahahahahahahaa……That will pass…and the President will run over to Congress to sign it.
They make themselves look like fools.
…..two dried up prunes wanting to tell women that their use of BC for ANY medical reason is at the mercy of their employers….figures. I hope women vote with this in mind…The GOP vs DEMs, which party is looking out for them.
Maybe they are hoping to be cast in MythFlops ‘cabinet’, hence practicing their flip flopping skills….. Doesn’t bear imagining, does it?
Sorry to be crude, but neither one of the Maine ladies has seen a birth control pill in years.
My only response to that: “The same sun that melts the wax, hardens the clay” – Niger.
This read from Andrew Sullivan is excellent and even though I have deeply freaked out (see above) about the Catholic Church, I believe that the trap has been set. Restricting access to birth control for women is not a winnable wedge issue. Plus, it puts attention back to the Church for their own moral failures.
I have finally figured out the Dr. Jekly and Mr. Hyde nature of Sully. He’s terrible at blogging in real-time because he’s too emotional, impulsive and he has a lot of fear (like we all do). When Andrew sits down to write a long piece, his calm, centered-self goes deep and much more wisdom comes forward.
What They Are Saying: Preventive Health Care and Religious Institutions
On Friday, President Obama announced that his Administration will implement a policy that accommodates religious liberty while protecting the health of women. Under the new policy, women will still have access to free preventive care that includes contraceptive services – no matter where she works. And as previously announced, churches and houses of worship will be exempt from the requirement to refer or provide coverage for contraception. But if a woman’s employer is a charity, hospital or other religious organization that has a religious objection to providing contraceptive services as part of its health plan, her insurance company – and not the hospital or charity – will be required to reach out and offer her contraceptive care free of charge.
This policy has earned praise from a wide range of individuals and organizations, including many organizations that will be directly affected by this policy. Here’s what people are saying:
200 priests suspected of abuse living in California, victims’ lawyer says
Saturday, Feb 11, 2012
Priests Accused of Molesting Children Hiding in Plain Sight
“Many if not all these priests have admitted to sexual abuse,” said an attorney who represents hundreds of plaintiffs claiming abuse at the hands of priests.“They live within a mile of 1,500 playgrounds, schools and daycare centers.”
They better shut up about birth control…..
I wrote a long nasty letter to Chris The Bird Brain Mathews and told him to mind his damn business in a nutshell. I said that as a whole no one has the right to rule over someone for religious reasons in this country. The church cannot tell women or man how to rule their sex lives, this was one of the reasons our founding fathers said separation of church and state. Now the religious right always take this to mean that the church has the power to do whatever it wants, thus taking the clause out of context. Our founders put this in there because they didn’t want our country becoming like Europe which was dominated by religion at that time.
Anyway sorry for my rant but I’m tired of the media trying to act like this was a controversy that Obama created when in reality it was something that they created.
Hey you guys who tweet – look for my tweets that i posted upthread for Linda’s idea and if you feel so inclined please retweet. maybe we can make it go viral. w00t!
Have retweeted; thanks for RT mine
Thank you all TOD’ers (men and women) who wrote, emailed and tweeted the Bishops and media pundits to get the “F” out of womens’ uterus and their rights to choose BC or not, to follow their religious believes and someone elses’. Unfortunately the GOP has decided to double down and the media, always needing a faux issue to generate ratings, will carry the GOP/TP water for them. It’s not enough that these asshats will get billions in ad revenue in the next nine months, they have to get more by keeping this nonsense on the airwaves. I hope we all continue to let them know to knock it off…either in writing and definately with our votes…this war on women health affects the men in these women’s lives too.
You nailed it JoJo. It is a WAR on women’s health and MUCH MUCH MORE….
This was in an email I got from a certain Orange site (I never unsubscribed because every so often they do something sane):
“Republicans have decided it isn’t enough to try and defund Planned Parenthood and to prevent birth control from being covered by health insurance plans. Now they are attempting to weaken laws against domestic violence and sexual assault.
The Violence Against Women Act was first passed in 1994, providing billions to enhance investigation and prosecution of violent crimes perpetrated against women. It was most recently reauthorized in 2005 by unanimous consent in the Senate.
It’s up for reauthorization again, but this time it received zero Republican votes in the Senate Judiciary Committee. Why? Because Republicans want to throw out provisions in the bill protecting victims who are LGBT or undocumented, slash funding for enforcement, and eliminate entirely “the Justice Department office devoted to administering the law and coordinating the nation’s response to domestic violence and sexual assaults.”
I’m sure it’s all just a coincidence Republicans are going to the mat to weaken laws against domestic violence and sexual assault, to end funding for breast cancer screenings, and to keep health insurance plans from covering birth control. No war on women happening here.”
Apologies for linking the site, but there is a link to sign a petition they’re going to deliver to Senate Republicans – and positive action is positive:
What’s even more alarming, is Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO) and his new amendment to the Affordable Care Act, would allow any employer or insurance company to “exclude any health service, no matter how essential, from coverage if they morally object to it.” THAT, is certifiably insane. More about that here – sorry again for linking to Orange – but everyone needs to know, and stand up and scream NO FUCKING WAY!
This is madness. Republicans might as well issue a formal declaration of war against women. More women have to know about this and fight back. I would like to see very female member of the House and Senate and all women’s groups stand up as one body and tell these misogynists to go to hell. Signed the petition, but it’s not enough.
Thanks Tally, I signed the petition too…..this is going to be like the civil rights movement if the GOP continues their war on women. I just can’t see women, young women, and the men in their lives going for this crap for every long. This an all out assault on women and has got to stop.
Actually it is time for the lay women of the Church to speak out on this issue….How can you sit in the pew and say nothing,…i think what happens is that lay women turn a deaf ear and decide to do what they do…take birth control…
perhaps they are afraid of going against the Church….i suppose these are questions for the so-called Catholic faithful to answer…i left the church long ago because of racism issues…..
just as we see the attack on rights of black folks/the use of racist language being used to stir up racist fervor…so too we see this attack on women in the guise of religious freedom….
so let us truly see what is happening here….there is a move to change the discussion…from JOBS and the Economy…from the rights of workers ….from the suppression of democracy by suppressing the vote…to name a few…to this so-called culture war….to take the American People to another place….
buttttt the President will once again wrestle the focus back……
the President will introduce his budget for 2013 and /the battle for the payroll tax cuts and the UE extension…will be front and center…..
perhaps some of these pundits could ask the Repubs Presidential candidates where they stand on the payroll tax cuts….
I hope Joe Biden takes the lead on calling the R’s out on the Violence Toward Women Act. Joe has always said he was proudest of this legislation which he sponsored as senator. He will not take kindly to what the R’s are going.
One thing I’ve noticed about President Obama, after he makes a decision and a statement about a subject, he moves on. He was way ahead on this issue, and these people are now beating a dead horse. The budget is coming up, and actual important issues are on the horizon. This BC issue will disappear, as the right and the bishops slowly realize that they are on the losing side. They won’t admit that, but they’ll slowly stop talking. This is another of what I call a nine-day wonder. Hysteria and hyperbole, and then the air goes out of the balloon…what long term impact did Jodi Kantor have? Can we even name the causes these same people have tried to make important? These people are always playing catch up with the president. He is even now way ahead of them and working on constructive plans for all of us.
THIS, THIS AND THIS!!!
Chips – check your email from last night.
I was hoping to read your piece this morning…….looking forward to seeing it later tonight. I got to get going, taking care of things around the house, it’s so hard prying myself away from here talking with my friends. I will be watching the Grammy’s at my Mom’s, it will be a tear jerker, have the kleenex at the ready…..love ya…and take care.
She sounds pretty busy… and I need to add something anyway – which I’m running to do right now.
A bit of good news. Looks like I’ll be following in the footsteps of almighty Liberal Librarian who has recently blazed paths to The People’s View. Congratulations, Zizi! Deanic has a keen eye for excellent writers like you.
Won’t be easy, but I was more taken with what Axe had to say at the end…I thought he was spot on!
The best thing Obama has going for him may be the Republican primary race, and that won’t last forever. And as soon as the GOP nomination is sewn up, all of the party’s attention can be focused on tearing down Obama.
Axelrod says he’s optimistic. But he acknowledges it will be a tough campaign — and, in all likelihood, a close election. “We’re not just running against the other candidate; we’re running against the times in which we live,” he said. “We’re running against impossible expectations.”
“We are running against the times in which we live….”
So very true. This election will determine the course of this nation for the next 50 years or more. Do we want to go backwards in ignorance, bigotry and hatred or forward in true enlightenment for the 21st century. I vote for forward and I WILL STAND AND NOT BE MOVED! OBAMA/BIDEN 2012!
yes, yes, yes!!!
Aquagranny, I am with you all the way!
The Republican party is currently focused on tearing down Obama. They have been since 2009. And the media has shamelessly signed on to be their true accomplice in that regard. That tool David Gregory on meet the press had Santorum on for a good 10 minutes. Gregory HARDLY mentioned Mitt Romney, but instead spent more than 50% of the time rehasing the contraceptives issue and President Obama. That’s very odd, given that Santorum’s biggest threat to winning the nomination is Mitt Romney who just this week Santorum beat in a clean sweep in the midwest. Yet you wouldn’t know that ever happened by watching MTP.
Secondly, Gregory was clearly showing his Republican roots by constantly trying interrupt PBO’s COS Lew, and badgering him with GOP talking points, selected polling about the contraceptives. Yet Gregory allowed Santorum to go on and on spewing lies, and simply echoed Santorum’s words while giving him more platform to double down on what he had been saying.
As I keep saying, our media is a menace to society and a real danger to progress. Anyone who just repeats MSM “reports” unquestioningly while bashing the administration, deserves to be fooled by the media.
OUR media is corporate owned. They are doing what they are SUPPOSE to do – follow the orders of their corporate owners. Anyone looking for truth telling or balanced reporting will be sorely disappointed. I stopped watching these shows long along. They tend to ruin my entire day.
This! This! This! Thank you so much hopefruit for continuing to highlight the media’s role in obstructing and obscuring President Obama’s agenda and accomplishments respectively. This why I never buy into the constant criticism, some from people on this site, that blames the WH and the Democrats for messaging failure every time the media goes on a rampage on manufactured outrages.
Read that LA times article…a good analysis. Glad Axe says it will be tough and close….our worst enemy is complacency, but the President’s team always runs as the underdog. I think when there is an actual candidate, a real live person and not an idea or ideal, the President’s numbers will get much stronger. Right now he has a phantom opponent….one week Gingrich, then Romney, then Santorum, with Ron Paul always lurking in the background. It will be good when there is just ONE opponent.
Agreed. And whomever they choose, the contrast will be STARK!
This outrage about birth control is beyond crazy. I grew up in a church that really did not accept birth control. Families with 8, 10, 12 children were the norm. If you only had 4,5, or 6, you were highly suspect! Even if your Dr. said you shouldn’t have more children, you were required to get an OK from the clergy. I sure don’t see many families of this size in the Catholic Church. Obviously Catholic women need, and use, birth control, as do women who work in Catholic organizations. This false outrage is just disgusting. It’s not as though anyone would be forced to use birth control, but rather provides the option–more freedom of choice rather then less. As has been said, this will cost the insurance companies less in the long run. Nothing new in my post, but needed to add my voice.
And a common sense, intelligent voice it is
I WAS RAISED IN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH, EVEN ATTENDED CATHOLIC SCHOOL AND WENT TO CHURCH EVERY SUNDAY. BUT THRU THE YEARS MY VIEWS HAVE CHANGED REGARDING THIS RELIGION. I FIND THEM TO BE BIG TIME HYPOCRITES!!! AFTER ALL THESE YRS I CAN NOT GET OVER HOW CHILD MOLESTATION WAS JUST SWEPT UNDER THE RUG…WHO GIVES THEM THE RIGHT TO LECTURE OUR PRESIDENT ABOUT MORALS…I MEAN REALLY…THEY SHOULD BE ASHAMED…HOW DO THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO SAY WHAT A WOMEN CAN DO REGARDING HER HEALTH AND BODY…THESE SO CALLED MEN OF THE CLOTH ARE DISGUSTING… SO YES,THANK YOU PRESIDENT OBAMA FOR STANDING STRONG FOR WOMENS HEALTH!!!!!
Good for you Zizi–you have a powerful voice!
Someone just asked this of Mitch McConnell
Mitch, you should know this:
If a turtle loses his shell, is he then nekkid, or homeless?
Nothing To See Here, Folks — This Isn’t Actually About Contraception
By Jesse Singal
“GOP GOES ALL IN” is the headline on TPM, and that really is the only way to describe the party’s latest maneuver on contraception:
Not satisfied with President Obama’s new religious accommodation, Republicans will move forward with legislation by Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO) that permits any employer to deny birth control coverage in their health insurance plans, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said Sunday…
It is getting worse by the day……
One more thing. Sarah Palin commenting on President Obama’s SoU speech, “WTF” she sez, to roars of approval. I’ll tell you–she and that crowd are class all the way! Can you begin to imagine our graceful and poised First Lady doing that? Not in a million years!
Are they even using the Winning the Future slogan ? I don’t hear or see it at all.
No, Linda, I think it’s been dropped as a slogan, but Sarah made a joke about the internet meaning of ‘WTF’ and one of the president’s speeches on winning the future some months ago and she can’t stop telling it. She thinks she’s hilarious even though it’s not relevant to anything that was said in the SOTU or anything going on in the real world. Sarah PAC has been dropping donations recently and I’m sure she meant this speech as a motivation for her “fans” to give more.
I read on an Alaska blog that she made Bristol go to DC with her to try and sell her book.
I thought that was Newt’s campaign slogan……I despise that waste of human skin.
They are such juveniles.
Huh…I just realized that by this time 4 years ago (7 Feb 2008), Romney had already dropped out of the primary ‘for the good of the Party’. He’s never been in a Presidential Primary this long before. Will it wear him down to actually keep campaigning? He’s so delicate and all.
While the Greek lawmakers take a very important vote, the people in the streets are burning buildings.
Maybe Athena can save them?
Thanks desertflower–been intending to ask about your hubby and the job situation–any luck? Spent some time in CO with the grandbabies, so am behind on news. Linda–loved the question about Mitch–will pass it on!!!
Oh, thanks..auni last week was a little “flurry of activity” on the jobs front…we shall see of anything pans out. I hope so. It’s getting hot in here! I just have to keep a positive mental attitude. Sometimes it’s hard. Things are getting extremely urgent and uncomfortable. Think a good thought:) Thank you for thinking of us. Believe me, you guys will be the second to know! (after me, of course!) that the man has finally landed a job!
please tell him we’re confident he’ll be hired and appreciated! very best to you both–this is a hard time, but it will pass into a better time, and soon.
Thanks, susanne! Fingers, toes, eyes, ears crossed!
It’s a done deal. No negative thoughts allowed. Just ascertain the lesson learned and adjust accordingly.
Yes, Desertflower, it is coming, and believe me, it will arrive at the very moment when all will be in the right place. Keep your thoughts of faith in what you so desire, and keep your space for your hubby and yourself filled with hope, and the best gift to be delivered to both of you.
You both are in my prayers, meditations, and good thoughts for your needs to be right on time. Keep looking forward.(((((Hugs)))))))HZ
Well said HZ. Well said.
THIS IS JUST HILARIOUS…….
‘SNL’ Takes Aim at Piers Morgan, Clint Eastwood’s Super Bowl Ad
With deft comedienne Zooey Deschanel as its host, Saturday Night Live turned in a particularly sharp effort last night. A trilogy of ads skewering Clint Eastwood’s angry-old-pitchman routine in that politically loaded Chrysler Super Bowl campaign stretched the confrontational spots to absurdist lengths. Bill Hader hilariously channeled the director as a sort of geriatric Batman with a steadily rising waistline, who lambastes Americans for laziness (“[The Chinese] are busy making the Jazzies that you ride around Disney World, because you’re too fat to walk”) while pledging political neutrality, except in certain, fat-headed cases (“I don’t care who’s driving, but I know it won’t be Gingrich, because his fat head won’t fit in the f**king car!”).
My daughter and I actually stayed up to watch SNL last night. This was hilarious!
OT: Just saw on CNN that Whitney’s daughter, Bobbi-Kristina has beeb taken to a hospital by the fire ambulance. (Please keep this very vulnerable young lady in your thoughts/prayers)
I can’t imagine what she’s going through.
Very honest read.
The pressure on him to slash and burn domestic programs is still just as great. But this time Obama moved away from the danger line with three crucial budget moves. He slashed the endless runaway military spending on the two wars that he inherited from Bush. The overall projected defense cuts total a half trillion dollars spread out over a decade. Though military officials grouse and GOP presidential contenders Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum saber rattle Obama with the claim that the cuts will render America military impotent, the cuts are only a small percentage of the over bloated defense budget; a budget that exclusive of Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security dwarfs spending on health, education, and social service programs. Despite the mostly public relations posturing from some military brass and the GOP, the projected defense budget cuts are cuts that the military can comfortably live with.
Obama moved further from the danger line by stepping up his campaign to make the corporations and the wealthy pay their fair share. This is an easy call. In polls and surveys, a majority of the public, and that includes a significant number of conservatives, say that the wealthy should be taxed more. Corporate tax rates are obscenely low, and corporate evasions of them are obscenely high. Obama has held firm that the Bush tax cuts that amounted to a budget killing giveaway to the super rich must go. The tax hikes on the rich will not eliminate the still high federal deficit, but it will dent it. This would bring the deficit under $1 trillion and more importantly, reduce the need for the more draconian cuts in other health and education, and infrastructure maintenance programs.
McConnell said he will not allow a vote on the budget.
I guess he owns it now and can no longer use the ” they have not passed a budget in 1,000 days anymore ) Which is a lie anyway.
ah what about “we have given the president everything he’s asked for”?
I hope Americans see the games Mitch McConnell, John Boehner and the Republicans have been playing with Americans lives, just so they could win. This economy could be alot better off if it wasn’t for the Republicans.
Can we say, SOS (Stuck On Stupid).
Chat away, back later:
