CNN: Mitt Romney’s overall favorable ratings have dropped, while Rick Santorum’s standing has jumped among Republicans, according to a new national survey.

…. In the new survey, 54% of Republicans said they hold a favorable opinion of Romney, while 67% said the same in January. Among all Americans, 34% described the candidate as likable, down from 41% last month.

…. only one presidential candidate in the race has a national favorable rating above the 50% mark: President Barack Obama.

Among all Americans, Obama received positive reviews from 53%, with the poll suggesting he may have grown more popular in recent months.

Bob Cesca: Regular people are donating to the president’s re-election campaign in record numbers:

According to an analysis by The Huffington Post, the Obama reelection campaign committee, Obama for America, pulled in at least 45 percent of its contributions from donors giving less than $200 during each of the fundraising quarters it was active in 2011…..

This is another strong indicator that the anti-Obama smearfest on the left is out of touch with the rest of the American left…..

Crew clothing has been “the most incredible gift that keeps on giving.” Not only did the company see a “huge lift” in business, Lyons credited Obama, 48, with creating a special bond with customers.

…. When Obama appeared on “The Tonight Show” in 2008 and told Jay Leno that her yellow sweater, skirt and blouse were a “J.Crew ensemble,” the company’s stock went up 8.2 percent. In 2011, Business Insider credited her with contributing to one of the most successful re-branding campaigns ever…

Hey guys. Tonight HBO is premiering a new documentary on the Loving vs Virginia court case that made interracial marriage LEGAL in every state. Before Loving vs Virgina came aobut, it was illegal for Blacks and Whites to get married in a number of states. This documentary uses archival footage and interviews to let the Lovings tell their story.

I saw a story about the Lovings on the Lifetime station a few years ago. I think Cicely Tyson played the woman. The movie is how I knew about the ruling. You say it will be a documentary and the one I saw before was a movie or tv movie.

Jackie, I felt the same way. I love the presentation with food. It is like the chefs look at each piece of food with the artist eye and then presents the entire dish with such texture, colour, and shape of a complete beautiful framed piece of glorious art. The eyes take in each food item that is on the plate and that registers in the brain and then tells the sweet soul of the taste buds to begin to fall in love all over again with the lovely mate sitting across from you at that table.

The the romance of the eyes, the voice, the dancing of the fingers across the plate, and the look of love within the eyes of the two at that table begin to enjoy the most delicious evening of a beautiful classical or mellow jazz composition of great music. Eating with love and the rhythm of the utensils of love is so magical on a night meant for lovers. The Evening of Elegance for Two. Dance with your forks and knives, Mr. President and Beautiful First Lady and make your own lovely piece of art. Happy Valentine Evening, Mr. President and First Lady, Michelle R. Obama. We enjoy loving the two of you love each other. You bring back romance to the White House for us.HZ

President Obama signed a $63.6 billion funding bill for the Federal Aviation Administration Tuesday, bringing to an end a years-long fight over aviation funding that became engulfed in labor disputes.

After a year of debate — and a two-week partial shutdown of the FAA — the House and Senate approved a multi-year funding bill for the beleaguered agency for the first time since its last authorization expired in 2007, and the White House said Tuesday that Obama signed the measure.

State of play: Energy Secretary Steven Chu will tout the Obama administration’s support for nuclear energy Wednesday at a Georgia power plant whose owner recently won approval to build the first new U.S. reactors in more than 30 years.

Chu will tour the Vogtle nuclear power plant near Waynesboro, Ga., and “highlight steps the Obama Administration is taking to restart America’s nuclear energy industry,” according to the Energy Department.

The visit comes a week after the Nuclear Regulatory Commission approved a license allowing for the construction and conditional operation of two new nuclear reactors at the site. It’s the first time the commission greenlighted construction for a new reactor since 1978.

Jordan confirmation vote set for Wednesday

    By Josiah Ryan
After much delay, the Senate will finally vote on the confirmation of Judge Adalberto Jordan to be a judge on the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit at noon on Wednesday.

Jordan has bipartisan backing, but Democratic leadership was forced to hold a cloture vote on Monday because several GOP senators attempted to block the confirmation.

The Senate will convene at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

US President Barack Obama has pressed China’s leader-in-waiting on trade and human rights, as he welcomed him to the White House.

Meeting Vice-President Xi Jinping in the Oval Office, Mr Obama also said it was “vital” that Washington maintained a strong relationship with Beijing.

Mr Xi said he hoped his visit would deepen mutual understanding and friendship between the two powers.

The US and China have been at odds over trade, currency and human rights.

Xi Jinping: Purpose of visit to build relationship “based on mutual respect”
Mr Xi, 58, is widely expected to succeed China’s President Hu Jintao, who must retire as head of the Communist Party later this year and from the presidency in 2013.

    ‘Critical issues’
Washington has been putting pressure on Beijing over what it sees as unfair trade practices, as well as the value of its currency and intellectual property theft.

House-Senate talks on renewing a payroll tax cut that delivers about $20 a week to the average worker yielded a tentative agreement Tuesday, with lawmakers hopeful of unveiling the pact Wednesday and sending the measure to President Barack Obama as early as this week.

Under the outlines of the emerging agreement, a 2 percentage-point cut in the Social Security payroll tax would be extended through the end of the year, with the nearly $100 billion cost added to the deficit. Jobless benefits for the long-term unemployed would be renewed as well, with the $30 billion or so cost paid for in part through auctioning broadcast spectrum to wireless companies and requiring federal workers to contribute more toward their pensions.

Rep. Mike Simpson, R-Idaho, said it was described to lawmakers as a tentative agreement.

The White House on Tuesday threatened to veto a wide-ranging transportation package from House Republicans.

The administration raised concerns about a provision to approve the Keystone XL pipeline, and argued the legislation’s funding for roads and bridges is inadequate.

“The Administration has serious concerns with provisions in the bill that would make America’s roads, rails, and transit systems less safe, reduce the transportation options available to America’s traveling public, short circuit local decision-making, and turn back the clock on environmental and labor protections,” the White House said in a formal statement of administration policy.

Bravo, yardarm for speaking TRUTH! Before the Civil War, a substantial number of free Blacks in America were of mixed race. Some were classified as: Mulattos (children of blacks and whites); or Quadroons (children of Mulattos and and whites); or Octaroons (children of quadroons and whites). Actually there were other classifications, but I would rather not bother you with them. Color mixing (because science has shown that the concept of race is a fraud because there is only one human race) has been going on from time immemorial! The Court in the Loving case bought into the biblical story about Noah’s curse upon Ham that supposedly led his descendants to be black. It also bought into the theory of the races promoted by pseudo scientists of the 17th-19th centuries who believed that mankind was composed of biologically superior and inferior races and some in between. By the way, the great Black scholar, W.E.B. DuBois believed that Alexander Hamilton, one of the founding fathers, was a mulatto born in the Caribbean.

You absolutely right: “There was plenty of traffic going back and forth across dem railroad tracks for years. Old masta loved him some forbidden fruit as often as he could get away with it.” There is plenty of evidence to back you up!

As reported on Rachel’s show: The Virginia legislature has passed a “personhood” bill. It passed both Houses. What this law says is that women MUST be forced to have a medically unnecessary transvaginal ultrasound prior to an abortion. In case there is any misunderstanding a “transvaginal ultrasound” is where a probe is inserted into the uterous. The government will MAKE SURE every woman has this procedure. Governor McDonnell says he intends to sign it. Governor McDonnell is also hoping for the VP slot on the Republican Presidential ticket.

    • February 14, 2012 at 10:17 pm

Fortunately for Virginia, governors serve only one term. The state Democratic party had better get a good Democrat primed and ready when the seat comes open and line up a powerful group of Democratic state legislature candidates as well. What is done can be undone if they get a Dem in the state house. Virginia Democrats–start grooming your candidates now. Didn’t McDonnell get elected in 2009? I think he was one of the first of the Republican governors that ended in the disastrous wave in 2010. If so, he’s out in 2013.

CLEVELAND, OH— As part of President Obama’s vision for an America built to last, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar today visited two manufacturing facilities in Ohio that are helping to power the nation’s growing energy economy. The plants, which employ American workers to manufacture products and components used in oil and gas production and to fabricate wind towers, underscore the President’s call for an economy driven by American energy, American skills and innovation, and American manufacturing.

“When it comes to energy, we need to take an all-of-the-above approach to producing more energy at home in ways that are cleaner, cheaper and create jobs for Americans,” said Secretary Salazar. “That means safely and responsibly developing our abundant natural gas resources, as well as building capacity for clean energy technologies, like wind and solar. Ohio is playing a major role in growing a strong energy economy for America, where jobs from manufacturing to construction are created and supported by our nation’s growing energy portfolio.”

In the morning, Salazar visited the MAC LTT Liquid Tank Trailer manufacturing facility in Kent, Ohio, where he saw firsthand the tanks and trailers they build used in the exploration of natural gas and oil. The recently-opened facility employs over 100 workers, and anticipates adding another 100 by year’s end.

He’ll help yo that’s what he’s up there for” and Mildred did and Bobby Kennedy wrote back and said that there was nothing he could do, but he told her to contact the A.C.L.U! And then A.C.L.U. answered back and told her that Atty Bernard S. Cohen was gonna take their case.

Wow. That is prayer at work right!

#TheLovingStory The judge who convicted the Lovings of the crime of interracial marriage said the following on the record:

“Almighty God created the races white, black, yellow, malay and red, and he placed them on separate continents. And but for the interference with his arrangement there would be no cause for such marriages. The fact that he separated the races shows that he did not intend for the races to mix.”

Wow. The racism in that statement is just…

      • 110 anniebella
        February 14, 2012 at 10:23 pm

It is amazing how these people claim to know what God intend. If God didn’t intend for races to mix, then someone needed to have told those slave owners who went to the slave shacks and rape alot of the women slaves. Where do this judge think that these black folks come from who were so light they could pass for white and alot of them did pass. They didn’t come from Africa looking like that.

      • 113 nathkatun7
        February 15, 2012 at 3:45 am

The judge, of course, was ignorant of history and anthropology! The judge listed five racial classifications. Somehow he missed listing the European classifications of: Aryans, Alpines, and Mediterraneans. Then, of course, was Europe’s obsession with hating the semite. Even in Europe not all whites were equal. As Fredrick Douglass used to say, human beings, who claim to be so intelligent, behave so much dumber than the animals. Douglass cited the example of the Cattle of all colors and shapes, long horns and no horns, who grazed peacefully without fighting over how they looked.

I asked this question before: If President Obama “fumbled” this, then who picked up the ball and scored? Was it the Catholic Bishops? Or was it the shameless right wing Republicans who tried to exploit this non-issue to attack the President? On the other hand, may be I am overlooking the victors who picked up the President’s “fumble”: the Main Stream Media who milked the story to increase their ratings by expecting to do further damage to the President’s poll numbers and thus creating a real horse race election in November. I honestly want to hear from Dana Milbank as to who picked up President Obama’s fumble and changed the game that left the President defeated!

Well, I’ma stop posting now, but seriously if ya missed The Loving Story documentary on HBO you should find a way to see it. It was fantastic, engrossing, touching, heartbreaking and ultimately triumphant. It was seriously great.

I’m a chick, so I can get kinda emotional anyway, but the story and the videos and recordings of the Lovings in love together and with their children, and the footage and the interview with the daughter almost made me cry.

    Anyway please check it out.

I watched and had tears in my eyes. Two people that loved each other had to go through all of that just because of a stupid law. Alabama was the last to strike down the law and this was in 2000. But things have not changed much. There was a recent story of a White woman that took home her Black financee and the Church members were not too pleased. The more things change the more they remain the same. But it’s not legal anymore and we can fight for our rights.

WASHINGTON — The White House proposed more funds for renewable energy and pipeline safety in the 2013 budget while renewing the call to end subsidies for the oil and gas sector.

The budget for fiscal year 2013 proposes $27.2 billion for the Department of Energy, a 3.2 percent increase of what Congress enacted last year, and includes $2.3 billion for research and development for energy efficiency, advanced vehicles and biofuels.

The proposal on clean energy research funds represents nearly a 30 percent increase from the amount enacted last fiscal year. It also shows President Barack Obama is not backing off renewable energy despite last year’s controversy with Solyndra, the solar company that went bankrupt after receiving $535 million in federal loan guarantees from the Department of Energy.

they only received 535 million? No wonder it went bankrupt! This sort of pursuit is expensive and needs more funding.

#TheLovingStory. Okay final post I promise, then back to politics…lol

The Lovings were not at the Supreme Court when closing arguments were given. So the ACLU lawyer asked Richard Loving if there was anything he wanted him to say to the court and Mr Loving said to just tell them that “I love my wife.”

    Ok, now I do need a tissue…lol.

    • February 14, 2012 at 10:54 pm

      ETA: WTF ALABAMA!!

After the Loving vs Virginia case ruled in favor of the Lovings. It became federal law that interracial marriage would be recognized in every state…BUT Alabama was the last hold out and they did not reject the final miscegenation law until 2000!!!!!!

I don’t like it when he does so many fundraisers back to back. It just seems so exhausting. I know he has the energy of a 21 year-old but… I really don’t want him to wear himself out. Oh well, gotta make that money.

(WASHINGTON) — The Associated Press has learned that the Obama administration is weighing sharp new cuts to the U.S. nuclear force, including a possible 80 percent reduction in the number of deployed weapons.

Even the most modest option would represent a bold disarmament step in an election year and is likely to raise the hackles of Republicans who worry about a smaller military force. Such cuts would be in line with President Barack Obama’s 2009 pledge to try to eliminate nuclear weapons.

No final decision has been made, but the administration is considering three options for lower numbers of weapons than the current treaty limit of 1,550 — ranging from about 1,000 to about 300. That’s according to a former U.S. official and a congressional official. Both spoke on condition of anonymity because the strategy has not been publicly announced.

And when Kyl and McCain hear about this, their tops will blow!

  35. February 14, 2012 at 10:58 pm

OH NO!!! I did not know that Richard Loving died from a car accident involving a drunk driver 8 years after they won their case!

Mildred lived the rest of her life in Virginia with her children and family in the house that Richard built for her…

Okay so yeah, now I AM tearing up.

    Good night ya’ll.

A source confirms to POLITICO an LA Times report that LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is set to chair the Democratic convention this summer.

The move is expected to be announced tomorrow.

The selection highlights the importance that Hispanic voters will play in the general election.

Some Hispanic voters have expressed unhappiness with the president over immigration reform. But the Republican presidential primary has largely pulled the immigration conversation rightward.

    • February 15, 2012 at 1:52 am

What I don’t understand about these Latinos who are “disappointed” with the President over immigration is: what are they expecting from a Republican president, when the Republican candidates have advocated the following:
      1. Deport them all.
      2. Make their lives so miserable that they “self-deport”.
      3. Enrich the private prisons by rounding them all up and throwing them in detention.
      4. Make them serve in the military, then we’ll talk about some kind of legal status (if they survive).

Do they really think that a Republican president will get them any closer to immigration reform than throwing their weight behind the only person who speaks about the Latino population with any semblance of respect, and has been trying to get Congress to move for over three years!?!? Very frustrating.

I am going to say good night to Chipsticks and all of our TOD Family. Now, I really do hope that everyone is still having a great time or had a great time touching, holding hands, laughing together, hugging for real, kissing ever so sweetly, walking back to the car slowly while whispering in his/her ear how lovely he/she/ looks, singing your favorite love song, telling each other how important they are in your life, and sipping that last glass of water, wine, tea, coffee, and holding each other until it is so real for both of you.

Now, you all better do this, because the way these crazy GOPers are talking about changing all of these rules on women’s bodies, this may be the last time you will have the freedom to even speak, touch, look, or even think about each other. Just saying. We are not fools. Not on our watch and not this time. We are making sure of that in 2012. Entire Congress!!!! AND KEEPING THE WHITEHOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Love you all, TOD Family.HZ

Hey everyone. Here is a great quote that I stumbled across that illustrates just how crazy and extreme the modern GOP has become. Please spread far and wide:

“It is my view that no American woman should be denied access to family planning assistance because of her economic condition”
    — President Richard Nixon(!) – 1969

    Source: http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/ws/?pid=2132#axzz1mFdn7Ylp

Amazing how far right they have gone. Please share.

    http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/story/2012-02-14/sebelius-holder-announce-health-care-fraud-money/53097474/1?loc=interstitialskip

WASHINGTON – Investigators recovered a record-breaking $4.1 billion in health care fraud money during 2011, a reflection of the Obama administration’s increased focus on fighting fraud, Justice Department officials announced Tuesday.

Between 2009 and 2011, the federal government has collected $7.20 for every dollar spent on fighting fraud, according to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) inspector general. That’s a jump from the $5.10 for every dollar spent between 1997 and 2008, records show.

    /snip/

In 2011, civil health care fraud cases brought in $2.4 billion under the False Claims Act, while the Justice Department filed criminal charges against 1,430 people for health care fraud — the most ever in a single year.

WiW this is for you!!! This is just one example of what good governance looks like. Making sure that the taxpayers money is spent wisely and insuring that the taxpayers are not victims of crimes like this! Spread this around!
