Happy Valentine’s Day everybody!
Happy Valentine’s Day everybody. But especially to President and Mrs. Obama, who are models for us when it comes to keeping a relationship fresh and able to handle anything that comes our way.
To them, the least arrogant and out-of-touch with the people occupants of the White House I have seen in my 65 years, may this Valentine’s Day be the best you two have ever had, and the beginning of even more in the future,
Happy Valentine’s Day everyone. May your hearts overflow with some good love. Cheers!!!
Happy Valentines to everyone, but especially to Ms. Chips who keeps us all going in this community filled with info and love for the Obamas.
Happy Valentines Day and more importantly Happy Single Awareness Day
. Here is a great read
Is Mitt Romney is a serial liar?
At a nationally televised GOP debate in New Hampshire last month, broadcast to a Sunday morning audience on NBC’s Meet the Press, Mitt Romney looked straight into the living rooms of America and told a lie.
It wasn’t a major lie, perhaps more like a fib. But when Newt Gingrich challenged him about the ads that the super PAC affiliated with Romney had been running, the former governor pleaded ignorance. “I haven’t seen them,” he said indignantly.
Then, barely 15 seconds later, perhaps forgetting he had just claimed never to have seen one of the ads, he offered a detailed description of “the ad I saw.”
Whether Romney never saw an ad or not is not the issue. What matters is that Mitt Romney seems to have no problem staring the American people in the face and flat out lying to us.
http://punditwire.com/2012/02/13/is-mitt-romney-a-serial-liar/
If someone can lie so easily about the most inconsequential thing….makes you wonder.
LOL, you may want to call it a fib, I call it a lie. And that isn’t the only time he has lied.
Quick, how do you know Romney is lying? His lips are moving.
When you go on national television and lie about your first name you know you can’t be trusted.
I was thinking of calling him a pathological liar. I think that refers to people that do not even realize they are lying doing it all the time about most everything. I am thinking Romney fits it because of your example, Also even the debate where they were introducing themselves and he used Mitt as his given name instead of Willard which was a small thing. There have been so many small and major things that it seems impossible to keep up with them all. Hope the campaign is keeping track of all of them.
Happy Velentines Day to all of you.
No question about it..wiilard the severely whacked is a pathological lying liar face. The question is..when does he tell the fooking truth?
Happy val’s day to all gals here …… only if you agree to be my val for today.

Happy Valentine’s Day amk!!! All of us here at TOD are your valentines!
In my homestate, the NJ senate has passed marriage equality that Christie said he will veto. Tyler Clementi’s cousin makes a heartfelt plea to make marriage legal in memory of her cousin:
Op-ed: Marriage Equality Corrects What Stands Against Love
Tyler Clementi’s cousin argues that New Jersey needs marriage equality, in part, because it will be easier for LGBT youth to believe it gets better if they aren’t being stripped of recognition for their love.
“Each of us plays a vital piece in the puzzle of humanity. Every voice matters. Every ounce of love matters. And please trust me when I say this: there is no sense in taking the chance of not honoring each other while we are here together, alive, on Earth.
I wish for the “aha” moment in every person’s life when they recognize that we really are all the same. There is no “me” or “them.” There is only love.
To every individual that is reading this, please consider contacting your state legislators and letting them know that you are in favor of marriage equality. Your voice does matter.
To the legislators out there who will be voting on marriage equality, please vote your conscience. We have elected you to “implement the demands of justice.”
And in the meantime, smile at a stranger. Be kind to the person who makes your cup of coffee in the morning. Embrace one another, even when it may feel inconvenient for you. Speak up. Speak out. Know that your voice matters, your life matters and who you love matters. Live to “correct everything that stands against love.”

Good morning, everyone
thank you for those wonderful V-DAY videos in the last thread
It’s really, really annoying when people tell their dreams—–but I’m telling mine from last night because I never dream/remember them. And see, PBO was in this one! (a little gift from my mind to me for Valentine’s Day?) Won’t go into all the fuzzy, disjointed details, but I was in a big barn/warehouse with all kinds of different groups of people busy all about (working on campaign?), and who should walk in but PBO himself!!! And he came right over and started talking to me!!! I was trying to tell him about 2 other guys who were there (?) but was so rattled I couldn’t remember their names. At one point, I stopped mid-sentence and looked up at him—-we were standing close!—-and I said, “You’re so tall, Barack. Oh oooops, I’m sorry, I mean President Obama, I didn’t mean to be disrespectful.” And he just smiled down on me with that million dollar smile and gave me one of those hugs I’ve been envying and said, “That’s okay, you can call me Barack.” It was so swoony and valentiney. Then I woke up. The end. Happy Valen–”times” to all! (fam joke about people who say valenTIMES)
I love your dream Doster!!!! Thanks for sharing!
You mean, you didn’t call him “PBO”?
Dreams are cool..I like hearing them and telling mine when they need it. That’s an awesome dream you had about PObama.. he hugged you!! I had a dream about him a long time ago and he was in an ice cream parlor. ordering like everyone else. I felt so special the next day that he was actually in my dream!
Happy Valentines Day to all!!! Hope your day is filled with love.

Happy Birthday To Blume!
Posted by Bon The Geek
I guess you can read if you want, but most male readers will want to skip this one. Sorry, fellas.
Yesterday, Judy Blume turned 74. I believe every girl in my age range read at least one of her books, but I hadn’t thought about Tiger Eyes for at least two decades. It made me read a little about who she was and how she managed to reach a nearly universal appeal with girls twelve through fifteen. Then I remembered how funny and realistic the characters were. Parents said stupid things sometimes, and the kids were just as mean and unfiltered as they are in real life. At a time when most fiction was shallow and safe (Sweet Valley High, anyone?), Blume challenged the market by giving us a story that had warts and tears and those argh moments only a teenage girl can know. She was unflinching when it came to the difficult parts of life, and that gritty sort of storytelling was magical in its liberation. We could be cranky, we could make mistakes, we would survive no matter what life hurled at us. We were introduced to compassion and morals at the time we were forming ideas about the world.
I do vaguely remember some discussions about whether Blume crossed the lines of being appropriate. My general memories say that parents were offended by the material, but couldn’t quote an example or specific reason. My parents let me read anything I wanted and always had, so I watched the debate from the outside. Blubber was just what I needed to read at that age in life, however. I really did feel for both Jill and Linda in different parts of the story, and going to small school full of cliques had left me feeling unsure of school friendships.
http://zandarvts.blogspot.com/2012/02/happy-birthday-to-blume.html
My first Judy Blume book was “Are you there God, it’s me Margaret!” That was a LONG, long time ago
I was in 5th-6th grade when that came out and it was a popular book, so much so that the library never had it on the shelf. Me and a group of my girlfriends got a copy and passed it around among ourselves. I was doing book club before I even knew what it was
“Deenie” was another favorite of mine because I had scoliosis like the main character (though I didn’t have to wear a brace like she did).
that was my first one too
My daughter read every Judy Blume book……..loved them. Brings back memories….just seeing her name.
TELL PRESIDENT OBAMA WHAT $40.00 MEANS TO YOU
Here we go again. It really is pathetic that congress is approaching yet another dramatic deadline to do something that should have been a foregone conclusion. The obstruction and brinksmanship of the Republican Party continues to endanger the economy and the lives of the American people. President Obama is again asking the public to get engaged and make their voices heard. No hostages, no games, no drama. Enough is enough.

Why Congress Must Extend the Payroll Tax Cut Through 2012
http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2012/02/14/why-congress-must-extend-payroll-tax-cut-through-2012
It is ashame that these Republicans want to see this President fell so bad that they will allow this economy to suffer, they will allow people to suffer. What happen to their love of their country?
Looks like the transportation bill is being held hostage in the Senate, to say nothing of the House version.
Senator Boxer feels that muddying the waters with the Keystone pipeline will probably torpedoe the entire bill.
Sigh!
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) put a hold on the transportation bill, delaying consideration of the bill in order to make an unrelated statement on U.S. aid to Egypt.
Excuse! In other words, NO to any new spending!
Happy Valentine Day family.
Norquist: Romney Will Do As Told
By David Frum
===========================
They have reconciled themselves to a Romney candidacy because they see Romney as essentially a weak and passive president who will concede leadership to congressional conservatives:
All we have to do is replace Obama. … We are not auditioning for fearless leader. We don’t need a president to tell us in what direction to go. We know what direction to go. We want the Ryan budget. … We just need a president to sign this stuff. We don’t need someone to think it up or design it. The leadership now for the modern conservative movement for the next 20 years will be coming out of the House and the Senate.
The requirement for president?
Pick a Republican with enough working digits to handle a pen to become president of the United States. This is a change for Republicans: the House and Senate doing the work with the president signing bills. His job is to be captain of the team, to sign the legislation that has already been prepared.
============================
http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/02/13/grover-norquist-speech-cpac.html
That is a very scary read! Everyone just doing as you are told. Doesn’t sound like a democracy!
Scary and almost comical at the same time. The party who supposedly cares about the Constitution doesn’t give a damn about respecting it. You had Gingrich saying he would bring judges before Congress if he didn’t like their decisions. Now Norquist who tells that the Executive branch should be the rubber stamp of the Legislative branch.
The GOP is definively intellectually and morally bankrupt.
Happy Valentines Day TOD. I get to spend part of my day in the Dentist chair. Yepppeee. Oh well, maybe I’ll get some flowers and something special from hubby this evening??!?
Good luck at the dentist. That is when I use my ipod the most. have to listen to music in the chair. Have a beautiful evening.
WILLARD MITT ROMNEY IS ‘SEVERELY’ PHONY
Romney on the precipice
By Robert Shrum
====================
On the rebound, Romney showed up at CPAC and offered the kind of trademark gaffe that in his campaign is prologue as well as past. He disobeyed his handlers again and spoke off script and off prompter. He’s repeatedly derided President Obama for using a teleprompter, so Romney’s reliance on it is just another flip-flop. Regardless, he ought to stick to the words on the screen. He was supposed to say that he was the “conservative” governor of Massachusetts; instead he extemporaneously proclaimed that he was “severely conservative.”
This tin-tongued, all-but-senseless phrase created a head-scratching moment that provoked derision and rebuke from Republicans as diverse as David Frum and Rush Limbaugh. “Severely constipated” is a phrase that makes sense — and might apply to Romney. But “severely conservative” not only suggests that he’s adverb-challenged, but reveals how hard he’s straining, too hard, to prove he’s something he’s not — a genuine, card-carrying, consistent paladin of the hard right. He discards his past positions on basic issues of conscience like an old pair of sneakers so he can run as fast as possible in the opposite direction. This has led skeptical Republicans to doubt not only his convictions, but his character — and left him struggling for a nomination that, by all the conventional measures, long since should have been his.

Great read – he nails it.
Lobbyists who were kicked off federal advisory committees when the Obama administration implemented a ban against lobbyists on the committees are now suing the government to reverse the decision. In a court filing, six lobbyists argue that the ban violates the First Amendment.
They can all go whine to the waahmbulance patrol.
The Senate meets at 10 a.m. for speeches, then at 11 a.m. will continue consideration of Adalberto Jordan’s nomination to be a U.S. Circuit Court judge for the Eleventh Circuit. The Senate approved a motion to invoke cloture on the Jordan nomination on Monday night, by a 89-5 vote.
The Senate will break as usual today for the Tuesday caucus lunches, but after that could resume consideration of the Senate transportation bill, S. 1813.
The House returns at noon for speeches, then 2 p.m. for legislative work. But the House is only considering three bills today that would name post offices in Missouri and New York: H.R. 2079, H.R. 3247, and H.R. 3248.
Votes on these bills are expected at 6:30 p.m.
BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN: “WE TAKE CARE OF OUR OWN”
On Budget Day, Listen to the Boss
===========================
One person who understands those numbers, and what they mean, is Bruce Sprinsgteen. He’s just released a video for “We Take Care of Our Own,” the first single from his new album, “Wrecking Ball.” The album, according to a source who spoke to Hollywood Reporter, is Springsteen’s “angriest” and “gets into economic justice quite a bit.”
Lyrics from the new song suggest those reports are accurate:
Where are the eyes, the eyes with the will to see?
Where are the hearts that run over with mercy?
Where’s the love that has not forsaken me?
Where’s the work that set my hands, my soul free?
Where’s the spirits that will reign reign over me?
Where’s the promise from sea to shining sea?

I would love to have Bruce and his band sing this outside the steps of Congress…real loud!!!!!!
Carla, that’s a fantastic idea. It gives me chills just thinking about it. How powerful would that be? I am crazy about Bruce. I love him and I just love that song. It’s really beautiful and haunting.

So, let’s review GOP logic.
If the courts decide for same-sex marriage, it’s activist judges thwarting the spirit of the law. If the legislature votes for it, it violates the will of the people. If it passes by referendum, it becomes an issue for the courts to decide. If the courts decide for it, it’s activist judges thwarting the spirit of the law. If the legislature votes for it, it violates the will of the people. If it passes by referendum…

Just read a comment from Lex on the above link that he is going to vote for the President although he committed impeachable offenses. Asked him to list them to enlighten me. Told him if he thinks the President did then don’t vote for him. Be true to himself and just stay home. Hope he replies today.
I saw that, miss pat. I replied to him too at the end of my post on ABL.
Cha, not a peep out of Lex. I tell you, we have to be on the lookout for these people who pretend to be for the President. I hate people who cannot back up their beliefs with facts. I’d rather people like Lex keep their votes. Lots of people will be voting for the President, especially the young people like my granddaughter who has just reached eighteen.

Obama’s coalition resurfaces in another poll
Like last week’s ABC/Washington Post survey, the national Pew Research Center poll released Monday suggests President Obama, at least for now, is reassembling the coalition that powered him to his 2008 victory.
The Pew survey, closely tracking the ABC/Post results, shows that in a potential general election match-up against Mitt Romney, Obama’s support among many of the electorate’s key groups has converged with his 2008 showing against John McCain. In almost all cases, that represents gains for Obama in polls from last year.
Whether the electorate is viewed by race, gender, partisanship or ideology (or combinations of the above), Obama’s numbers against Romney now closely align with his support against McCain, according to the 2008 exit polls. Overall, the Pew survey put Obama ahead of Romney by 52 percent to 44 percent, close to his actual 53 percent to 46 percent victory over McCain.

Taking a cue from Republican presidential candidates, President Obama will visit one of airplane manufacturer Boeing’s plants that was the focus of the National Labor Relations Board’s complaint against the company.
But unlike Republicans, who visited Boeing’s plant in Charleston, S.C. after the NLRB’s allegation the company built a facility there in retaliation for strikes by workers at its existing facilities, Obama will visit Boeing’s plant in Washington state Friday.
The NLRB’s case against Boeing, which has since been dropped, sparked a national debate regarding about labor unions.

Another new poll of the Massachusetts Senate race shows Democratic former White House financial reform adviser Elizabeth Warren leading the Republican incumbent, Sen. Scott Brown.
The numbers: Warren 46%, Brown 43%. The poll was conducted from February 6-9, and has a ±4.4% margin of error. It was commissioned by the Boston NPR affiliate, and conducted by independent pollster MassINC.
The poll actually shows Brown with a solid personal favorable rating of 50%, to only 29% unfavorable. By comparison, Warren is in positive territory but less well known at a 39%-29% figure. But the fact remains that Brown has a tough hill to climb in this election, just as he did when he was first elected two years ago.

Romney condemns auto-industry rescue
By Steve Benen
================================
It takes a fair amount of chutzpah to face a crisis, get it wrong, then whine about the way in which the other guy got it right.
This is a subject Romney would be better off ignoring. After all, in 2009, he famously urged policymakers to “let Detroit go bankrupt.” Romney was so certain Obama’s policy would fail, he said Americans could “kiss the American automotive industry goodbye” if Obama’s policy moved forward in 2009. Indeed, at the time, Romney called the administration’s plan “tragic” and “a very sad circumstance for this country.” He wrote an April 2009 piece in which he said Obama’s plan “would make GM the living dead.”
With the benefit of hindsight, we now know all of Romney’s warnings were wrong. For him to double down today on the virtues of letting Detroit go bankrupt is just bizarre.

GOP WANTS TO GIVE CATHOLIC BISHOPS VETO POWER OVER PUBLIC POLICY
This Isn’t About Freedom of Religion Anymore
By Jonathan Cohn
======================
But some critics are still not satisfied. They say the only solution is to eliminate the requirement altogether, so that birth control coverage is no longer mandatory for any private insurance policy. Already, two senators, Roy Blunt and Marco Rubio, have introduced bills to accomplish that legislatively. And it’s consistent with the Bishops’ position, which opposes any contraception requirement because “all the other mandated ‘preventive services’ prevent disease, and pregnancy is not a disease.”
.
.
The Bishops want a veto over public policy. And the Republicans want to give it to them.

The GOP Plan To Give Your Boss “Moral” Control Over Your Health Insurance
Republicans now want to give CEOs the power to do away with any medical benefits they dislike.
By Adam Serwer
========================
If Republican leaders get their way and Blunt’s bill becomes law, a boss who regarded overweight people and smokers with moral disgust could exclude coverage of obesity and tobacco screening from his employees’ health plans. A Scientologist employer could deny its employees depression screening because Scientologists believe psychiatry is morally objectionable. A management team that thought HIV victims brought the disease upon themselves could excise HIV screening from its employees’ insurance coverage. Your boss’ personal prejudices, not science or medical expertise, would determine which procedures your insurance would cover for you and your kids.

BOEHNER FACES ANOTHER REVOLT FROM HOUSE REPUBLICANS
By John Hudson
========================
Now, the thinking by Senate Democrats is, as The Washington Post’s Ezra Klein explains, “If Republicans want to block a tax cut for all Americans because they’re offended by the idea of helping the unemployed and keeping grandma’s doctor from taking a 30 percent pay cut and fleeing the Medicare program, let them.”
For Boehner, the trouble is that he’s already facing animosity from rank-and-file Republicans without even considering the plan by Senate Democrats. As Politico’s Manu Raju and Jake Sherman report, Republicans are incensed because the extension undercuts their attacks on President Obama regarding his piling up of government debt:

The core of Romney’s bankruptcy argument is that pension funds should be used to pay creditors. Romney complains in his op-ed that secured creditors were not paid first with money that had been obligated to workers’ pensions. It is a consistent position for a person who made much of his money by borrowing against a companies assets, including worker’s pensions, forcing the company into bankruptcy and leaving the workers’ pension fund to pay creditors and left it empty while he walked away with millions.
That is bad enough. But those were the rules of the game at the time, so it was legal if morally reprehensible business plan.
The problem is, as Mitt tells us in his op-ed, Mitt sees nothing wrong with that. He doesn’t think that law should be changed. Mitt thinks that people who are paid a salary earned through their labor, but have it deferred to retirement by placing it in a retirement fund, should have the money in that account stolen from them by the first vulture capitalist who can leverage a loan against it.
Mitt thinks that stealing money earned by years of labor and impoverishing thousands of workers is a good thing. He calls it capitalism’s creative destruction. And while there is a place for creative destruction—the reorganization and re-use of capital now tied up in unprofitable enterprise, stealing earned money from employees is not creative, it is destructive. Destructive of the lives of people who labored years for that money. Destructive of lives, and destructive of the social bonds which are supposed to hold us together.
