I remember buying my first real new car, and I squealed to myself in the car for an hour as I drove around, knowing no-one else had ever been behind the wheel of that car. It was a great feeling of accomplishment. It’s different buying a new car versus a good, used car. Congratulations – and your car looks even better with the Obama-2012 decorations. Lovely!
Congrats Dave. I have only purchased one new car in my lifetime, and I drove it ’til the wheels fell off. It, too, was blue!! I have the ‘Obama clings’ in the back windows my current car, which was a very low-mileage used Toyota when I purchased it.

I think he could! If Romney were to lose both Michigan and Arizona, as well as most of the Southern States on Super Tuesday in March, Santorum could emerge as the GOP nominee. Right now, however, I still think Santorum is the latest flavor of the month aimed at making Mitt Romney appear to be much saner than the alternatives. Then again, I think it is a fools errand to try make predictions about politics; and especially the current state of GOP politics. To be honest, although I’ve been a stronger support of President Obama, from the day he gave the 2004 Keynote Address at the Democratic Convention, If you asked me in February of 2008, if then Senator Obama would be the Democratic nominee for President, I would have said: NO! At the time, the Clinton political machine still appeared to be invincible! By the way, I think It would be a major political blunder for us not to take Santorum seriously! By the time the super Tuesday actually arrives, that will no longer be true. Wanna bet?
I don’t think Robney is as strong as you think he is, especially in the Republican primary.

The recent ppp Michigan poll shows Robney gaining 11 points and Santorum leveling off. The Michigan primary is more than a week away. Lots of time for Romney to regain top position. And while it is true that Robney is an overall weak candidate, the GOP establishment (including the corporate media) will do any and everything in their power to ensure that Romney and not Santorum is the GOP nominee for President. This recent focus on Santorum is just another ploy to take the scrutiny off Romney.
And yet he is struggling, big time.
He is stronger in the general than the primary!
Romney is not particularly strong in the general either. That’s what the GOPmedia wants voters to believe with their stupid head-to-head polls that don’t mean a darn thing 8 months out. The problem with Willard is that the more exposure he gets, the worse his ratings get…while the opposite is true for President Obama. In a general where Romney won’t have a car load of Klowns to distract and keep him away from scrutiny, the spotlight will be on his numerous flaws and deficiencies, and that’s where he will start eroding support – FAST.
Also, PPP had Gingrich surging in Florida, that turned out dead wrong!!!
I think you’re right, Hopefruit. Ricky has offered a sideshow. He may think he’s competing with Romney, but in the end, Romney’s megabucks and the establishment’s self-interest will produce a Romney nomination.
And the Texas primary is not until April – long after super Tuesday!! By then Santorum will be toast.
My crystal ball is often cloudy, but I think Santorum went into the toaster with his comments this weekend and will lose both primaries on February 28. He has peaked.
I don’t see any comments that Santorum made that will hurt him in a far right primary.

I know he scares liberals, but maybe that’s what we need to unite these different factions on the left!

Romney seems to be closing the gap in Michigan and Santorum’s comments will not help him pick up new supporters. I believe the Michigan primary is open, and there are only a limited amount of crazies in the state.
Regardless, if Romney loses Michigan, not only will it be terrible for him as a candidate, but it will also put the entire Republican party in a very bad position. Therefore, the GOP establishment is not about to let that happen. Even if it means FIXING the votes to make Romney the winner. Mark my words…Romney is going to win Michigan no matter what the polls may or may not say right now.

I agree with you Jovie, as long as Santorum is attacking President Obama the far right will have no problem with him, even if Santorum is lying his freaking head, the RW wouldn’t care.
I agree, Bill. Ricky has shot himself in the foot with his inability to hide his extremist positions. It will be interesting to see if Willard feels the need to match Ricky on the extremist fringe in the next debate, or, if he’ll call him on it. Either way, it’s tricky for Willard. If he matches Ricky, the loses Independent support. If he moves center, he risks giving base votes to Ricky. Ultimately, though, I don’t think the R’s would ever risk handing the nomination to a certified looney like Santorum. Willard will be the one meeting PBO next fall.
Still, whether anybody cares to admit it or not, Robney has a big problem in the Primary and he may not get 1144 by august!

i listened to some of the pundits on the political shows try to explain away Santorum’s ideology by saying that he really means what he says and that he is not a phony….so should that make his views acceptable???…

working hard in my own community…to register new voters….and indeed to get them to the polls…in addition a few weeks ago a TODer challenged us to make a personal commitment to get at least one person registered and to the polls…so i have my list…my two grandsons will be voting age this year….made it my business to make sure they are registered and then to vote….hoping that i can get them to go out with me when i phone bank and canvass….

He is the last Mofo I want negotiating peace.
It’s the Obama administration that is negotiating the deal. McCain is not negotiating anything. On “This Week” with George Stephanopoulos (ABC) he said that he supported the 3-way peace talks between the US, Afghan gov’t and Taliban. Mitt Romney on the other hand is against the peace talks.
And then he said he wanted permanent bases there and was critical of the president announcing a date for withdrawal. Saying that it weakens our position!
He is not the President and it does not matter what he says. He is an old has-been who thinks he’s more important than he is.
MCCAIN SHOULD NOT OVERSTEP HIS BOUNDS…HE DOES NOT NEED TO BE THERE AND HE’S SO OVER THE EDGE ANYMORE THAT HE MAKES A POOR IMPRESSION!…NOT GOOD!

As a long time reader of TOD, I just wanted to say how much this community refreshes and inspires me. It is so nice to come to a community where cynicism has not displaced the sense of civic duty, the need to look out for one another, the idea that public service is essential to the common good.
