But in many respects, Santorum’s new attack is even more troubling than its face-value ugliness. Since when is it the job of presidential candidates to question others’ theology? The Santorum camp later said he was simply referring to the president’s worldview, but notice that the Republican candidate used the word “theology” four times in three sentences. Santorum was, in other words, trying to make a specific point.

I didn’t realize until yesterday, that today is officially called “Washington’s Birthday”. There is no offical holiday called President’s Day, although that is the common name given to it.
Without having to look it up, (though I did just to be sure), it has been ingrained in me from elementary school, that there were 2 celebrations—Lincoln on 2/12; Washington on 2/22. Will never forget the top hat and then the hatchet and cherry tree. We made cutouts to put on our classroom windows. Yes, I showed my age
I always thought Presidents day was to celebrate both Washington and Lincoln birthdays. Imagine my surprise when the AP told me I’ve been misinformed all these years!!!
Yes, Japa, when I was in elementary school we got both Lincoln’s birthday and Washington’s birthday off in February–what a treat that was. When they combined two holidays into one President’s Day, we all got cheated of an extra day.
Lincoln was born on Feb 12th and Washington on Feb 22nd. Their birthdays used to be celebrated in elementary classrooms separately and there were no holidays for the Presidents birthdays. Some schools had assemblies and plays. I’m not sure what year the two Presidents birthdays were combined together including honoring all Presidents between the two dates on a Monday in February. It may even be the third Monday in February not sure again, but it usually is closer to Washington’s birthday. It is an official holiday now. My late husband’s birthday was also on Feb 22nd the actual birthday of George Washington.

Our daughter, other grandson and granddaughter just left few minutes ago…..long drive back to Chesapeake…….lots of time for her to think. Prayers asked for and appreciated. I wonder what kind of little boy he would have been……..what would his interests have been……….what would he look like now. I do know he made a huge difference in many lives in his four years and continues to have an affect on people’s lives. Thanks to all of you for love, care and concern when any of this family is hurting.

Your Angel sounds like he was a precious little soul. There is nothing that anyone can say to make the heartache go away but I am sure he lives on in all your precious memories. I know we are all different and all grieve and find comfort in different ways but the thing that gets me through the most awful times when I am missing my beautiful angel babies is believing that God is watching over them.

President Obama spent 20 years in the United Church Of Christ. This is the church I have been raised in. Yes, we study the Bible. No, it is not a phony Bible, but the actual real Bible. The difference that we always say is: You can either take the Bible literally, or you can take it seriously. You can’t do both. We take it seriously. The United Church of Christ moto is “God is Still Speaking.” We don’t just sit in the pew–our feet our moving. President Obama represents our theology perfectly. I am so proud of all the work he has accomplished.
The problem with Santorum besides the fact that he’s running for archbishop instead of President is there’s no there there. After you get past the wedge issues he has no plan for anything and doesn’t know anything. He’d make Bush look like LBJ.

I think he can. If you look at the South (TX, GA, LA, MS, AL) all that is ripe for someone like Newt…but his baggage (marriages and congressional history) make him an unlikely vessel for the anyone but Romney group. Santorum’s manufacturing background and his days in PA make him attractive to the folks in the midwest in particular OH and Michigan. Romney lucked out with NH (lived there), FL (snow birds from the East Coast), NV (heavy Mormon population).
I am still slightly baffled as to why he lost Colorado. Minnesota and Missouri I can see but Colorado…heavy Mormon population, affluent whites- all Romney people. Perhaps the Focus on the Religion folks came out in mass for Santorum.
Personally, I don’t think anyone will get to that coveted 1000+ delegates by August, but I think Santorum (if he doesn’t commit any major gaffes) will have more than Romney.
The only solution is probably a Romney-Santorum ticket which means OBAMA-BIDEN 2012

No, I don’t think Santorum can or will win the GOP nomination. The GOP establishment will make sure of that. The votes will be fixed so that Romney wins -no matter what. Santorum might be on the short list for Romney’s VP though!
I think you’re right, hopefruit. The GOP establishment will stop at nothing to make sure Santorum does NOT win the nomination. I also think he would be a lousy VP candidate. His being on the Romney ticket would guarantee PA went to Obama/Biden. And Ricky has little crossover appeal beyond the far, far right. He can’t help making extremist statements that frighten anyone near the political center. And he would galvanize Democrats into action.
I’m not sure if he can win the GOP nomination — I know he’s not even on the ballot here in VA, and he may have similar organizational problems elsewhere in the country.

Roland Martin gets on my nerves with his negativity and because he voted for Bush twice. But this segment featuring some black Hollywood stars who support President Obama is good. The stars have some great observations.

This weekend on Moyers & Company, Bill asks political communication expert Kathleen Hall Jamieson to analyze the misinformation campaigns of 2012 thus far. Jamieson runs the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania, including the sites FactCheck.org and FlackCheck.org.
I saw the piece. Yes I too like Moyer’s. The one part that I wish they would of talked about more…Jameson was disappointed that Obama decided to use PAC money, when he was against it. It would of been nice to hear why he did it, why he was so against the Citizens United ruling by the Supreme Court (and he called them out at the SOTU 2 years ago), and even now he supports an constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United. So yes , Obama does not like the new rules, he did not make them, but if billionaires are giving unlimited millions to destroy you, what is the other side suppose to do? To me it painted Obama with the same brush as the GOPers and their PACS. Maybe it is just me seeing it this way, what do others think when they watch this piece?
I understand why President Obama made the decision he made concerning the super pacs, and I am not going to try to condemn him for it. He know what he is facing, and he has to be ready to fight back. Maybe those who claim to be disappointed in his decision, want him to lose. I want him to win, and if this help him win, okay by me.
IN 2012, NO ONE CAN AFFORD TO SIT ON THE SIDELINES AND NOT VOTE
If this isn’t enough to get the attention of the American people, I don’t know what will. The question is who do you want to pick the next supreme court justice? The steady hand of a brilliant, pragmatic and effective leader like President Barack Obama or one of the unhinged, deranged, radical and extreme GOP presidential candidates. The question answers itself.
Any (women, students, seniors, LGBT, Latinos, African Americans, Independents, any American) of voting age who is not registered and committed to making their voice heard at the ballot box in November 2012 really needs to consider the ramifications if one of the radical and extreme GOP candidates reached White House. That thought alone should be absolutely horrifying to contemplate. They have clearly demonstrated who they are and what they stand for. Their party over country agenda must be rejected.
A couple of conservatives are old too and probably wont hang around all four years. This is a good time to make the biggest change on the govt that Obama could make.

I didn’t realize until yesterday, that today is officially called “Washington’s Birthday”. There is no offical holiday called President’s Day, although that is the common name given to it.

Without having to look it up, (though I did just to be sure), it has been ingrained in me from elementary school, that there were 2 celebrations—Lincoln on 2/12; Washington on 2/22. Will never forget the top hat and then the hatchet and cherry tree. We made cutouts to put on our classroom windows. Yes, I showed my age

I always thought Presidents day was to celebrate both Washington and Lincoln birthdays. Imagine my surprise when the AP told me I’ve been misinformed all these years!!!

Yes, Japa, when I was in elementary school we got both Lincoln’s birthday and Washington’s birthday off in February–what a treat that was. When they combined two holidays into one President’s Day, we all got cheated of an extra day.
Lincoln was born on Feb 12th and Washington on Feb 22nd. Their birthdays used to be celebrated in elementary classrooms separately and there were no holidays for the Presidents birthdays. Some schools had assemblies and plays. I’m not sure what year the two Presidents birthdays were combined together including honoring all Presidents between the two dates on a Monday in February. It may even be the third Monday in February not sure again, but it usually is closer to Washington’s birthday. It is an official holiday now. My late husband’s birthday was also on Feb 22nd the actual birthday of George Washington.

O/T: Today our Angel Walker would be 8 years old. This will be a tough day for our family. Our daughter, other grandson and granddaughter just left few minutes ago…..long drive back to Chesapeake…….lots of time for her to think. Prayers asked for and appreciated. I wonder what kind of little boy he would have been……..what would his interests have been……….what would he look like now. I do know he made a huge difference in many lives in his four years and continues to have an affect on people’s lives. Your Angel sounds like he was a precious little soul. There is nothing that anyone can say to make the heartache go away but I am sure he lives on in all your precious memories. I think so BWD especially if he wins Michigan. There are a ton of southern primaries coming up and things could definitely snowball in his favor.

I think he can. If you look at the South (TX, GA, LA, MS, AL) all that is ripe for someone like Newt…but his baggage (marriages and congressional history) make him an unlikely vessel for the anyone but Romney group. Santorum’s manufacturing background and his days in PA make him attractive to the folks in the midwest in particular OH and Michigan. Romney lucked out with NH (lived there), FL (snow birds from the East Coast), NV (heavy Mormon population).
I am still slightly baffled as to why he lost Colorado. Minnesota and Missouri I can see but Colorado…heavy Mormon population, affluent whites- all Romney people. Perhaps the Focus on the Religion folks came out in mass for Santorum.
Personally, I don’t think anyone will get to that coveted 1000+ delegates by August, but I think Santorum (if he doesn’t commit any major gaffes) will have more than Romney.

I saw the piece. Yes I too like Moyer’s. The one part that I wish they would of talked about more…Jameson was disappointed that Obama decided to use PAC money, when he was against it. It would of been nice to hear why he did it, why he was so against the Citizens United ruling by the Supreme Court (and he called them out at the SOTU 2 years ago), and even now he supports an constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United. So yes , Obama does not like the new rules, he did not make them, but if billionaires are giving unlimited millions to destroy you, what is the other side suppose to do? To me it painted Obama with the same brush as the GOPers and their PACS. Maybe it is just me seeing it this way, what do others think when they watch this piece?
I understand why President Obama made the decision he made concerning the super pacs, and I am not going to try to condemn him for it. He know what he is facing, and he has to be ready to fight back. But as Romney’s scorched-earth campaign tactics drive down his general-election poll numbers and his campaign-trail awkwardness jeopardizes his argument for electability, he is left without a rationale for his candidacy. If Republicans don’t feel good about Romney and don’t think he will win in November, then why would they vote for him in the primaries?
The brutal truth is that there are some business-school problems that are as hard to solve as Fermat’s Last Theorem. A new marketing campaign or a clever slogan cannot save a dog food that the dogs don’t like. So too is it with the Romney campaign. At this point, his only hope is to prevail by using about the oldest argument in politics: “The other guys are worse.” And considering the caliber of his opponents (the Three Horsemen of the Republican Apocalypse), Mitt Romney may just get away with it in the primary. But this is not the stuff that promising general election campaigns are made of.

This was a great share DF! I sent the link to everyone I know. Sis has been moaning about how young women seem to take all the struggles of women’s rights for granted but as this article points out many have no personal experience of life before reliable birth control, equal opportunity employment and the ability to get credit, buy a car or a house in your own name without a male co-signer.

Because Mr. Obama cares about public health, like most presidents and governors and mayors and lawmakers, he builds his public policy on the recommendations of scientists and medical experts. That infuriates those, like Mr. Santorum, who say that divine law should come first.
But in fact, that’s not how this country works. Presidential administrations are not supposed to have theologies. Individuals are free to do so, but the Constitution and the Supreme Court have been explicit over the years that religious doctrine cannot supersede secular law. That may seem obvious, but there are many people who have never accepted it.

Hello Chips and everyone. Enjoying a nice restful day today while juicing and cooking fresh vegetables. Started a two week corporate fast yesterday.
