When it comes time to vote Americans better remember what the Republicans want to do to Social Security and Medicare. These Republicans will do it if given a chance, so we better not forget.

Btw, from the list of sponsors I noticed AFN, American Forces Network, if I’m not mistaken that is our tax money sponsoring this vile man.
If so, we really need to get on their case, even more so than the private companies. All that was listed was an email address:

trying to catch up on the day’s posting and I am really thrilled about these sponsors dropping out. Makes me feel there is hope…ah yes, that hope stuff…it’s still there.

Been thinking about this and it’s like the cooking up of a perfect storm. First the thugs with their sanctioned rape of women seeking abortions, then the birth control madness and the ‘hearing’ that was little more than a farce on our sensibilities and hot on it’s heels, the pompous ass’ proclamation against this very intelligent, brave and articulate young lady. They pushed and push and what you are hearing is a collective ‘Enough!’

I made calls to my senators today. Gave a good piece of my mind. It was all I could do to be civil grrrr.

Will be contacting those advertisers that have pulled out and thank them for doing that. I think it is important to give them positive reinforcement for doing the right thing.

As for the president calling young Sandra…there are no words. It warms my heart.

President Barack Obama has been fundraising at a harried pace this year, and he is not letting up any time soon.

In the next month, he is scheduled to hit campaign events in Houston, Chicago, Georgia, Vermont and Maine,  according to a schedule obtained by POLITICO.

Obama also has events in DC, beginning Tuesday at an upscale hotel, where he will attend a reception targeting South Asian constituents. Another, at a different hotel two weeks later, is organized by Futuro Fund, a Latino political organization.

POLITICO is not naming specific venues or times for security reasons.

    Here’s the list:

The only problem I have with this is that too many of those back stabbing dems will profit from his efforts. We need launch a campaign of our own on these people ADVISING them on the perils of not standing behind their leader the way the GOP stand behind limbaugh. If they don’t have anything good to say they need to STFU but more importantly they need to support his agenda, since it is our support for his agenda that is bringing them all this dough.

To start: Mancin. I don’t care one iota if he goes. He votes rethug 100% of the time that I’ve paid attention. Nelson has been more trouble than he’s worth in my opinion. And who is the female from down south who goes with whatever big oil wants? She needs to feel our wrath especially with the upcoming attempts to cut $$Billions in oil subsidies.

A Message from Carbonite CEO, David Friend Regarding Ads on Limbaugh

    March 02, 2012

Over the past two days we have received a tremendous amount of feedback on Rush Limbaugh’s recent comments. I too am offended and very concerned about his comments. Limbaugh’s remarks have us rethinking our future use of talk radio.

We use more than 40 talk show hosts to help get the Carbonite message out to the public. The nature of talk radio is that from time to time listeners are offended by a host and ask that we pull our advertising. This goes for conservatives like Limbaugh and progressives like Stephanie Miller and Ed Shultz. We even get customers who demand that we pull the plug on NPR. As an advertiser, we do not have control over a show’s editorial content or what they say on air. Carbonite does not endorse the opinions of the shows or their hosts.

However, the outcry over Limbaugh is the worst we’ve ever seen. I have scheduled a face-to-face meeting next week with Limbaugh during which I will impress upon him that his comments were offensive to many of our customers and employees alike.

Please know your voice has been heard and that we are taking this matter very seriously.

    Sincerely,
    David Friend

  19. March 2, 2012 at 9:55 pm

A commenter in an earlier thread was wondering why it took this to get the pitchforks out, and not, say, the horrible things he’s said about Michelle Obama. I understand her viewpoint, and agree with. But, whether we like it or not, a Democratic First Lady is always seen as a political actor in a way that a GOP First Lady isn’t. It’s not fair, it’s rather disgusting, but it’s the reality with which we live. Democratic First Ladies are seen as fair game, especially since Hillary Clinton’s days. So attacks against Mrs. Obama are seen as fair game; it’s not right, but the RW isn’t right in the head.

I think the reason the attacks on Ms. Fluke have struck such a chord is because she looks like anyone’s daughter, trying to do some good in the public arena, and she basically gets attacked by a schoolyard bully, egged on by his friends — some of whom are misguided women. She’s a college student, and at first didn’t have a platform of the type that Limbaugh has, and was speaking from a very personal place that most people comprehend.

And, as Tally said in a comment on my post on TPV, “religious freedom” is just a smoke screen. The RW saw contraception coverage as a way to start taking apart ACA. Ms. Fluke upended that plan, and the response was immediate and vitriolic. But, as has been the case for the past few months, they overreached and misinterpreted the country’s mood. I think the country really is changing, when confronted by the RW’s rampant pathology. They’re scared by the Right and its veering into outright extremism, and that’s reflected in the polling supporting PBO and Democrats. A lot of work is left to be done, but bit by bit the conservative movement and its political arm is showing itself incapable of governing responsibly. That’s all to the good.

    • March 2, 2012 at 10:05 pm

LL, first of all, Dems or LW talkers would never go after a GOP first lady like Dem first ladies are gone afetr. But you hit the nail right on the head. This is not someone who sought the limelight or is a “player.” She is the personification of the average American woman or daughter or granddaughter.Plus, calling her a “slut” was way over the line, but then talking about how she should post videos of her sexual activity on line says a lot about Limpballs. That went beyond anything of a political nature.

This is tinning of the end for Limbaugh. He may have trouble even getting a speaking gig at CPAC next year.

However, because of what he has done, a lot more people are aware of her and what she talked about, which wasn’t even the use of BC to prevent pregnancy, but how it is used for many other things, like her friend suffered from.

      • March 2, 2012 at 10:12 pm

Yes. It’s that vile man’s sexualization of testimony that wasn’t at all sexual in nature that is more than despicable. I wouldn’t be surprised if he imagines doing unspeakable things while he’s with his wife. THAT makes me want to vomit, not JFK.

    • 127 Bobfr (aka Our4thEstate)
      March 2, 2012 at 10:07 pm

Agree, LL. This is how I’ve explained it.

Tipping points are what they are. It seems the Greed Over People Party are truly adept at triggering one after another. At the core, they really don’t comprehend evolution and, thus, they are escalating their extinction.

We just need to keep the USA and the world out of their path.

      March 2, 2012 at 10:21 pm

And I would add the First Lady, regardless of party, is considered a public figure whereas Sandra Fluke is a private citizen.

    • March 2, 2012 at 11:17 pm

I think it was Jessica who expressed the frustration and anger you mention, and I completely agree with her. But I also agree that there’s something about both this time and this example that help make it a tipping point. RL has been ranting for years and years, but he seemed to many, despite his large audience, crazed and marginal. But now his rants are everyday chat for the GOP, and we see by all the groveling apologies by Republicans who criticize him that he’s really the de facto head of that party. So lots of people, who never listened and never paid him much attention are face to face with his vileness, and see that far from being marginal, this is becoming the norm for the GOP.

      • March 3, 2012 at 3:23 am

Yes, one is a public figure and one is a private citizen, But, they both are some mother’s daughter and some father’s daughter. That is my point.

Sandra Fluke’s mother and father deserve respect as parents. Sandra Fluke deserves respect as a young lady. Just think if you were a father and some man called your daughter a “slut.” He said that for the world to here. Does he have proof of that towards this young lady? No. So, why insult her, her mother, her father, and every decent woman on this planet? It is vile, rude, hateful, and ugly, and No young woman should be subjected to his vile comments.

Then, fathers, and mothers, and ladies, this man took it even further. He blasted how he wanted to see and that everyone should be able to see a sexual act for the world to see. Where is the decent men and women from the “Family Values World?” Where are the “Bible carrying men who go on tv shows and talk about morals and decency and Bible verses, when their “boss” is bearing false witness against a lovely and decent young lady? Come on, America!!! How would you or any decent human being want to suggest that to his/her daughter? Just think about what he said and did to the spirit of every young lady who heard that. Fact is, he said it about Ms. Fluke and the world heard it plus her parents. Why aren’t the GOPers standing up now? Why aren’t they on the morning , noon, and evening shows talking some decent sense into this vile person? Enough is enough.

We must stand against this type of hateful, nasty bullying toward any young woman. Our beautiful young ladies are to be protected from bullying, ugly, vile men like this. This should not be happening in the 21st century and in this country. Not now, not ever again.

We can’t and should not allow this young lady to stand alone on this. We must do everything within our power to support her, and every beautiful young lady who will grace this earth. No man has the right to say what he said to and about this young lady. No man!!!!

Just think, everyone. What if it was your daughter, niece, godchild,? No. Enough is Enough. We will not be quiet on this. We are women. No one talks to us in this manner. No way. And no, I do not agree that this is some pump your audience up to get them mad and get your rating. Well, if it is the case, we, all decent Americans with a decent core should be yelling from the corners of every street, “No More, You Will Not Treat Our Young Ladies Like This!!!!!” I do not and will not accept excuese for this. No, I will not. We are all accountable on this one, people.HZ

I think we are dealing with fascism in the GOP’s current organization. I mean the real deal. I was just rereading Dr. Lawrence Britt’s “Fascism Anyone?” that list the fourteen points of commonality he sees in historical fascist regimes. 1. Powerful and and continuing nationalism, 2. Disdain for human rights, 3. Identification of enemys/scapegoats as a unifying cause, 4. supremacy of the military, 5. rampant sexism, 6. controlled mass media, 7. obsession with national security, 8. religion and government intertwined, 9. corporate power is protected, 10. labor power is suppressed, 11. Disdain for intellectuals and the arts, 12. Obsession with crime and punishment, 13. Rampant cronyism and corruption, 14. Fraudulent elections.

      BEDEVERE:
Uh, but you are dressed as one.
      WITCH:
They dressed me up like this.
      CROWD:
      Augh, we didn’t! We didn’t…
      WITCH:
And this isn’t my nose. It’s a false one.
      BEDEVERE:
      Well?
      VILLAGER #1:
Well, we did do the nose.
      BEDEVERE:

Wow, up until the Arab Spring, I never realized what a powerful tool twitter could be. With special THANKS to our TOD twitter brigade for contributing so much for PBO, for social justice, for all of us.

Every time I see Romney holding a baby, I want him to give it back! He looks so uncomfortable and looks like he might drop them!

President Obama, on the other hand, is a natural with babies! He’s so gentle and he’s a baby whisperer! LOL :-D

    Cameras in the supreme court?-

The state’s highest court today updated its rules for media coverage of trials and other court proceedings in response to changes in technology used by the media and the rise of bloggers and citizen journalism.

The goal of the changes approved by the Supreme Judicial Court is “to recognize the changes in technology and journalism … and to maintain the necessary order and decorum in the Massachusetts courts,” the court said today in a statement.

The rules permit electronics — such as laptops — in the courtroom but also require anyone seeking to use the high-tech gear to register with the SJC’s Public Information Office.

To qualify for a press pass, people must show they “are regularly engaged in the reporting and publishing of news or information about matters of public interest. This would include citizen journalists who meet this standard,” the court said.

The new rules allow a third camera in a courtroom — a video camera potentially being used by a citizen journalist — in addition to the cameras from television stations and newspapers that have been permitted in courtrooms for years.

Mitt has a very indelicate way of holding babies. Almost every picture I’ve seen of him holding a baby, the capiton could very well read, Ewwww, don’t drool or pee on me. So he holds them at arms length.

    Dear TOD,

Before launching a Twitter storm, which I think could be quite successful, wanted to share the idea with all of you.

The idea is TOTALLY inspired by HZ’s post of earlier today – http://theobamadiary.com/2012/03/02/a-word-from-hz/

All of the companies that provide advertising $$ to hatemonger Rush’s (and others) broadcast radio/TV should be challenged to channel those $$ to support, across the USA, the types of events/services for our troops that HZ outlined. They’d get enormous advert exposure – for something overwhelmingly positive – and they would be infusing their $$ into actions and not just hate-filled sound waves.

The tweets are rather simple and could easily become ‘viral’ – along the lines of “”USA – Tell ALL sponsors on @ClearChannel of #Rush to funnel their $$ to support #USATHANKStheTROOPS inspired by http://tinyurl.com/7b4h39f“”

And, it would be reasonable to contact Sandra Fluke and ask her if she would be supportive of the effort.

    What do you think?

This is something a site with now more than 8 million hits should launch because you’d want as much immediate impact and sustained effort as possible.

I’m in – if you folk want to make it happen.

        Thank you, df!!

Let’s see what Ms Chips, HZ and the TOD family think and perhaps we can make this happen :)

        Happy weekend!

    • March 2, 2012 at 11:09 pm

Sounds good, but I’m not sure if the “mixing” of our troops with what started as a contraception issue would be widely understood or accepted. Just my 2 cents.

      • 180 Bobfr (aka Our4thEstate)
        March 2, 2012 at 11:20 pm

Thank you for your comment. However, what Sandra Fluke attempted to convey was focused on women’s health care, not only contraception. So, the suggestion of having companies shift their advertisement focus from hate to our troops would also enable them to align with the need to support female troops and female spouses with access to comprehensive female health care. At least, that was the intent of the suggestion.

Hope you have a restful evening.

Hi Bobfr, it is HZ. Yes, for real. I just read your comments, and I think it is great. However, I do think you should run it by Chips first. I am fine with it. I especially like the idea that bestpresidentever brought up.

As for me, if it is fine with Chips, go for it. Please convey my okay to Chips. However, I am sure she will see our comments. I can’t wait to see what our TOD Family say about your great idea. Thanks Bobfr. Please contact Chips.HZ

Bobfr, That’s an absolutely wonderful idea! I believe that “events/services” proposed by HZ to honor our troops are more meaningful than just the symbolic parade. While I think that It’s important to push back against Rush Limbaugh, we can still focus most of our energy and time doing positive things that are likely to have real impact on the lives of our fellow Americans.

Someone commented on the fact that Limpballs was on AFN. Here is a comment that I found over at TPM in regard to this very thing. I think we need to write, call, fax, …and get after this. In a BIG WAY!

    isepick
attilatheblond As I have posted elsewhere…AFN is under the direct control of the Assistant Secretary of Defense, who ultimately reports to President Obama. Now would be a very good time to start publicly asking why taxpayer dollars are being used to spread this man’s misogynistic hate around the world and to ask the White House to do something about it. They have the political cover to pull his show now without any undue backlash.

If my memory serves me right, the Bush administration gave Rush the entire radio contract when the Iraq war started. I recall people saying that prior to Bush there were more options but when cheney and bush came into office they wanted the troops to only hear a 1-sided radio head….

        • March 2, 2012 at 11:43 pm

This is true. I was stationed overseas from 1998, and at that time there were different shows that were broadcast on the radio network, although it seemed like Limpballz’ s show got a lot more hours and re-runs. Then after 2001, it was him all the time. Same with Hoax News.

This is our chance to push for CHANGE on this. We must!

Thanks so much Bob. My husband is a Navy Chief and we are stationed in Yokosuka, Japan right now. I told him that I don’t understand why AFN would allow someone as Rush Limballs on the airwaves. He said that he will ask around and see if there is anything that we can do.

I feel so out of the loop since we are 14 hours ahead of all the east coast news..LOL! My husband always wonders why I am up at 0200-0300 every morning to see what is going on..LOL! Needless to say TOD is my first stop!

      Then a response:

Have you been asleep these last four years? Obama NEVER has enough political cover as far as the mouth-breathers are concerned! If AFN pulls him (even if they do it without direction from the WH), the GOP starts screaming about how Obama is against freedom of speech. Obama’s smarter than this, folks. He’s letting Rush do what most of the GOP has been doing lately: Letting their own words destroy them.

    • March 2, 2012 at 11:02 pm

NEW ORLEANS – A federal judge says BP and a committee representing plaintiffs suing over the 2010 Gulf oil spill have reached an agreement, although specific terms have not been released.
Judge Carl Barbier said Friday night that as a result of the agreement that will be filed with the court for approval, the trial that was scheduled to begin Monday has been postponed for a second time.
No new date was immediately set.
The judge said the settlement will require substantial changes to the current trial plan. He didn’t elaborate, and there was no mention in his order anything about the status of BP’s talks with the federal government and other parties.

WASHINGTON – Rick Santorum was already known as starting from a deficit, delegate-wise, in Ohio. He failed to qualify for any district delegates in three Ohio congressional districts because he didn’t turn in delegate names there.

But his delegate troubles go deeper. According to the Ohio Republican Party tonight, the former Pennsylvania U.S. senator filed incomplete delegate slates in six additional Ohio districts.

Altogether, this means Santorum, who until this week had a fair lead in polls in the Republican nominating race, could be ineligible for 18 Ohio district delegates.

You notice how Mitt Romney, the GOP and MSM keep highlighting Mitt’s business experience, especially as a CEO.

I find it astounding that narrative would even be consider as an advantage to a GPO presidential candidate b/c George Bush and Dick Cheney were much better businessmen the Mitt will ever be. And look what they did to this country. Is there an amnesia epidemic in this country or is it selective amnesia??

    aloha tod ohana
i’ve already signed off for the night, but then i found this piece, which i want to share with you. today, there has been so much anger in me, over the vile limbaugh, the greedy gop, and the prevaricating press. honestly, i was steeped in anger and not able to calm down for sleep.

then i saw this short video clip. is it off topic for tod? don’t know–seems to me this is the antithesis of what the repugs are preaching. a family, working hard to care for the children, and hoping that someday, they might go to college and have a better life. this vision is a human vision, not just an american vision. but we claim it, pbo claims it, and we are called on to stand up for it, to champion it.

somehow, i feel better, remembering what it is we agree on, and why
