Way back in my grandparents’ generation, there was a Yiddish expression for Jews who embarrassed other Jews…they were referred to as “ein shanda fur die goyim”…which translates into “a scandal for the non-Jews” to gossip about, judge other Jews by, etc.
These fellas fall into that category, pretty much.
This is what I have to say about Bibi. I have NO respect for someone who enters the home of another and then tries to turn said household members against the head. IMO it shows his lack of morals and class to bite the hands that support him militarily even while asking for more support. I honestly can’t think of anything ‘good’ BIbi can do that will shatter that image of gracelessness that he portrayed during that visit, but I hope he’ll listen more carefully to the President during their meeting this time around.
And, vc, here’s hoping that the cowardly and disrespectful congress will stop undermining the President by supporting the outrageously racist and condescending behavior of said ungrateful visitor. I expect American Jewish organizations to support the President and reject Bibi’s disrespectful posturing.

I apologize for my ‘heartlessness’ even as I confess that this image made me smile – a really big smile. Thanks, JG! I do agree that Cantor will soon get his, and as he’s been so smarmy I won’t feel ANY sympathy for him. Although, come to think of it, PBO always does his squashing in such a classy way after allowing loads of opportunities for correction, that there is no need to feel sorry for those too dense to take themselves out of the way.

I see Oh. Gov. Kasich has turned down fed help for tornado aftermath, as opposed to In. and Ky. who gratefully accepted President Obama’s offer of immediate assistance. I agree with the Dem County chairman there who said it appears that Kasich is playing politics at the expense of the interests of his residents. With winds clocked at close to 200mph in this latest series of tornadoes, towns were literally wiped off the map and much help is obviously needed.

I thought this is an interesting editorial about the sad state of the Dem. Party in Florida. It states that in every corner of the state thousands of Obama volunteers are at work on his re-election, but the Dem Party in the state is mostly ineffectual and nearly invisible, the state completely under Repub control. There is not even a strong opponent who has emerged to challenge Gov. Scott, the most unpopular gov. in the country. And with the changing demographics favoring Dems and the Repub Party shifting way rightward, there is really no excuse for this imbalance there. The state is ripe for the taking.

Tampabay is newspaper that owns “Politifact.” And they have to pander to the GOP in reward for having the RNC in Tampa this year. So take their editorial on the “sad” state of the Dem party with the appropriate amount of salt. This is just an attempt to depress Dem voter turnout. They are clearly pissed that PBO has just an extensive ground game that none of their candidates have. Before they talk about the sad state of the FL Dem party, they might want to look at the extremely miserable state of their current four GOP presidential candidates.

I check that site regularly, and my experience has been that the output there has been very objective, in fact often very critical of the Repub pols in the state—-Scott especially, and did an unflattering expose’ on Rubio and have done many stories on the Repub financial shenanigans there etc.
Please keep in mind that whenever OFA becomes highly active in a presidential campaign, the Democratic Party grows. A state Democratic party isn’t a static thing–it grows and changes as events occur. Even before OFA, in 2004, our local Democratic Party grew twice it’s size, activism, and effectiveness just because the Kerry campaign got people motivated. In 2008, the Obama campaign left standing committees for youth, unions and women that would continue to keep the party alive. Parties are built county by county, as people become involved and clamor for action. So, for this editorial to depict the Obama campaign as a side activity is nonsense. Where do they think the team members of the campaign come from? They are Floridians who are coming together to re-elect the president. If you’re in Florida and you’re not already a member of your local party, jump in and make a difference. When a lot of active counties clamor for change at the state level, it happens, because that’s where the state committee members come from. Change like this can happen in one year if people in Florida want it to happen. As for a challenger for Scott, don’t leave it to the state to decide. Members of the party can help choose someone by talking them up and inviting them to county events. It really is all in our hands.

Did lawsuit factor in Olympia Snowe’s departure?
Last August, while Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, was in the midst of an intensive round of fundraising for her 2012 reelection bid, a four-year-old civil lawsuit alleging fraud by an education company in which she and her husband are heavily invested became public.
Originally filed in April 2007 by a pair of whistleblowers, the lawsuit alleges that the company violated a federal law that prohibits schools from paying admissions officers based on the number of students they recruit and enroll. Those numbers can affect a school’s revenues because more students mean a school is potentially eligible for more federal aid dollars. The whistleblowers alleged, and provided documents indicating, that they were paid bounties for the number of students they enrolled.
The Justice Department’s decision to intervene on Aug. 8 made the lawsuit, which had been under seal, public. In its complaint, Justice alleged that Education Management Corp. submitted “knowingly false, misrepresented, and/or improper certifications” to the Education Department, stating that it did not offer enrollment incentives to its admissions officers. Without those certifications, students enrolling at the the company’s schools, which include Argosy University, Brown Mackie College and South University, would not be eligible for federal financial aid. The complaint names Snowe’s husband, noting that in December 2006, while he was the company’s chief executive officer, McKernan personally signed certifications that Education Management Corp.’s schools complied with the ban on offering compensation to admissions officers based on the number of students they recruit.

TALLAHASSEE — Voter-registration groups asked a seemingly sympathetic judge Thursday to block a portion of the state’s controversial elections revisions passed by the Legislature last year.
The hearing was the first on the merits of the elections law since lawmakers approved HB 1355 last year.
The League of Women Voters, Rock the Vote and the Florida Public Interest Research Group Education Fund went to court late last year to ask the judge to throw out the parts of the law putting new requirements on third-party voter-registration organizations.
Lawyers for the groups argued that the new rules — which include submitting the names of those who work for the organization, having volunteers sign forms agreeing not to break the law and turning in registrations within 48 hours instead of the early state deadline of 10 days — were so hard to comply with that the organizations were largely forced to shut down their registration drives.

A bill passed Monday in the US House of Representatives and Thursday in the Senate would make it a felony—a serious criminal offense punishable by lengthy terms of incarceration—to participate in many forms of protest associated with the Occupy Wall Street protests of last year. Several commentators have dubbed it the “anti-Occupy” law, but its implications are far broader.
The bill—H.R. 347, or the “Federal Restricted Buildings and Grounds Improvement Act of 2011”—was passed by unanimous consent in the Senate, while only Ron Paul and two other Republicans voted against the bill in the House of Representatives (the bill passed 388-3). Not a single Democratic politician voted against the bill.

I don’t know whether PBO will sign this but I don’t blame the Democrats for not voting against the bill. The “Occupy” movement is a Ron Paul type Libertarian movement that seeks to cause anarchy and chaos and deter real progress. When people are hurling firebombs at the WH, blocking ordinary citizens from being able to get to and from their place of work, engaging in vandalism and all sorts of destruction while creating harzardous living conditions (spreading of infectious diseases by camping out in public spaces indefinitely), it’s not surprising that it’s only Republicans (including Ron Paul) who would LOVE this sort of thing.
The “Occupy” movement has not really advanced any goals or solutions. Wall Street is still Wall Street. There is still money in politics. Lots of it. In fact, the primary contributor to the movement also donated the maximum amount to Mitt Romney’s campaign (and nothing to Obama’s). Many of the pro-Obama Democrats have long abandoned the Occupy movement which is now seen as a fringe, disorganized group of attention-seeking individuals.
OWS just is reporting that this bill passed…..it would be illegal to single out just the OWS movement…this affects all of us.

The point of free speech is to not be able to pick and choose who gets to peaceably protest, regardless of what you think about their views. This kind of restriction is frankly outrageous and dangerous to American values.
You may not like the OWS movement but the next time it may be someone you support. Personally, I findy our characterization painted with a rather broad brush. Some good came out of it and helped change the national conversation. But that is frankly beside the point. I will always to choose to err on the side of free speech,particularly when it’s the hardest to condone the message.

Have you read the bill Dudette? The original post by Linda was based on an article from the Occupy movement itself. So I would expect that their interpretation would be slanted. The bill does not prohibit free speech or peaceful protests.
Once I saw that Ron Paul and two other Republicans voted in favor while all the Dems voted against – that was an indication to me that this bill was not what it was reported on that site to be. Therefore I read the bill and saw that it was a perfectly reasonable bill which seeks to protect the President (mainly) and other SS-protected individuals while they are in or around specific federal buildings – and the bill clearly defines what “restricted Federal Buildings” are..

I see the building restrictions are very limited in scope and, I certainly don’t have a problem with preventing violence against elected officials, but I wonder exactly what would be considered disorderly or disruptive behavior under this law. Is wearing a t-shirt or holding a sign with a message that the President doesn’t agree with a violation under this law? That bit of ambiguity concerns me. If there’s a legal definition or the disorderly/disruptive behaviors that says my making that kind of expression isn’t infringed, I’m cool with it. Otherwise, I still think it should be challenged.
I remember back when Bush was President, the images of people being thrown of buildings where he was speaking, just for wearing the wrong button or a t-shirt. Sorry, but that didn’t look like something that matches with my country’s values.
57, my interpretation of this bill seems to be very different from yours. There is no where in the bill that prohibits “peaceable” protest. Secondly, the bill is restricted to certain Federal buildings and grounds – specified in section “C” .

I don’t understand this bill AT ALL. I read it and it talks about how you can’t protest near government buildings or around anyone who has secret service. The language in the bill is so vague.
Exactly. I don’t like OWS’s non-message but this isn’t just about them. This affects every citizen and every citizen’s constitutional right to protest and petition their government. Democrats should fight hard for this bill because it will backfire against their causes if it becomes law. Left to the GOP, they would restrict and suppress all citizens rights.
Yet every Democrat voted Yes on this…..they also voted for the NDAA then our President had to attach a signing statement to it to nullify portions.
Democrats voted against this bill because unfortunately, OWS targeted more Democrats (including the WH) than Republicans. I can see why Democrats were concerned about their personal safety with a movement like this. There is nothing in the bill that prevents reasonable protests – the bill only covers entering specific types of Federal buildings or grounds for the purpose of causing disruption, using physical violence or attacks that result in injury, use of firearms, bombs, acts of vandalism. There is no where in the bill that prohibits about marching and chanting in the streets, or marching in other public spaces. There is no where in the bill that prohibits the use of signs in protest. This is a very restricted bill that is limited to Federal buildings that are associated with the President, WH, National events, etc., and in light of the recent incidents that have taken place near the WH I am in favor of this bill.

This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Federal Restricted Buildings
and Grounds Improvement Act of 2011’’.
SEC. 2. RESTRICTED BUILDING OR GROUNDS.

‘‘(3) knowingly, and with the intent to impede or disrupt
the orderly conduct of Government business or official functions,
obstructs or impedes ingress or egress to or from any restricted
building or grounds; or
‘‘(4) knowingly engages in any act of physical violence
against any person or property in any restricted building or
grounds;
or attempts or conspires to do so, shall be punished as provided
in subsection (b).
‘‘(b) The punishment for a violation of subsection (a) is—
‘‘(1) a fine under this title or imprisonment for not more
than 10 years, or both, if—
‘‘(A) the person, during and in relation to the offense,
uses or carries a deadly or dangerous weapon or firearm;
or
‘‘(B) the offense results in significant bodily injury as
defined by section 2118(e)(3); and
‘‘(2) a fine under this title or imprisonment for not more
than one year, or both, in any other case.
‘‘(c) In this section— H. R. 347—2
‘‘(1) the term ‘restricted buildings or grounds’ means any
posted, cordoned off, or otherwise restricted area—
‘‘(A) of the White House or its grounds, or the Vice
President’s official residence or its grounds;
‘‘(B) of a building or grounds where the President or
other person protected by the Secret Service is or will
be temporarily visiting; or
‘‘(C) of a building or grounds so restricted in conjunction with an event designated as a special event of national
significance; and
‘‘(2) the term ‘other person protected by the Secret Service’
means any person whom the United States Secret Service is
authorized to protect under section 3056 of this title or by
Presidential memorandum, when such person has not declined
such protection.’’.

I have no problem with this bill. And OWS shouldn’t care as it would cover very few of their activities. This has very limited impact due to places and events being as limited as they are. I think we all remember the situation in AZ a couple years ago where there were people with firearms right outside of where PBO was speaking. I think this might address that.

In Ohio – where President Obama’s approval rating stands at 45 percent – he leads Paul by 10 points among registered voters (48 to 38 percent), Romney by 12 points (50 to 38 percent), Santorum by 14 (50 to 36 percent) and Gingrich by 15 (51 to 36 percent).
In Virginia – where his approval rating is 51 percent – his leads are even bigger: 17 points over Romney (52 to 35 percent), 21 points over Paul (53 to 32 percent), 22 points over Santorum (54 to 32 percent) and 26 over Gingrich (57 to 31 percent).

This might be the first and last ever PBO speech that I won’t see. I feel sick, I can’t stand this election year extortion he’s being forced to deal with, I hate all those assholes who put him in this corner and force him to go to AIPAC and suck to the Likud party. And I say it as a Jewish who lived many many years in Israel, and read the newspapers there, where they celebrate Bibbi’s “win” over PBO and how “playing hardball with Obama paid off”. I can’t handle this one, it upset me to tears, so I’ll just follow it in Twitter or something and just wait for this whole thing to be over.
What win did Bibi have over our President? Explain it to me okay.
They say that he forced PBO to shift from talking about two states and peace negotiations, to focus on Iran and military operation. Bibbi and his GOP/media tools are working very hard to create the impression that PBO is losing the Jewish vote because of Iran. And like with most of their lies, somehow is becomes “fact”. I know that they can’t force PBO to do anything he doesn’t want, but they’re making his life hell and this is one issue that I just can’t handle.
You are not alone. I despise Netanyahu. He’s rude and a flaming warmonger. PBO does not suffer fools but I’m sure this is extremely trying for him.

Well everyone is entitle to there opinions. If Israel doesn’t want to try to work on a peace deal with the Palestine then that’s up to them. And if they allow Bibi, Cantor, and the Republicans to get them in a mess with Iran don’t expect us to come running to their defense.

could it be possible that some of the papers in Israel are mis-reading President Obama and oumping up Bibi because in the short run they think Bibi is winning but in the long chess game POTUS has the upper hand which will only be revealed on fine analysis and in long-term considerations?
I think it is highly likely you are correct, globalcitizenlinda. There is no way the President did not know that Netanyahu was going to react the way he did last year. He knows he can’t trust this man; that he is a liar and devious. Like the President said, he has to deal with Netanyahu every day. If Netanyahu wants to believe he’s winning because the President isn’t pressing about Palestine, then let him. It keeps him arrogant and willing to fall into a trap later. I’m sure there is a big long rope out there somewhere that Netanyahu doesn’t see coming with which to hang himself just like every other person who has underestimated our brilliant President.

President Obama is probably being pushed by the war-mongers in the USA and Israel. However, if there is one thing that is increasingly clear to about President Obama is that he may say little about controversial issues but he is very stuborn once he has made up his mind about something – he will let you knock your selves out if he he sees you are determined to be unreasonable. In essence, he tunes you out and he goes about his business

In essence if you are determined to be unreasonable, this President gives you enough time for you to see the ridiculousness of your position. While doing so, however, you can be sure PBO is also investigating other routes to his preferred outcome, so that when you fail you won’t necessarily take everyone else with you. The problem as I see it, is that we haven’t all realized this yet, so we tend to ask PBO ‘What are you doing?’ ‘ Don’t you see this or that new threat?” In so doing (if he were to listen to us) we are actually distracting him. In fact IMO we distract him anyway because he always has to be mindful that we don’t trust his judgement 100%. I suspect that at times he tempers his responses to actions like those of Netanyahu because he knows the country often don’t see where he’s headed. I suppose our fears are understandable because we HAVE been raised on political fears, AND we have never had a leader with insight as clear as PBO’s. By PBO’s second term we may just be more relaxed and more trusting of his modus operandi.
VC, this is exactly why I trust PBO on the Israeli issue and refuse to second guess what he will do. He is 100 times smarter than Netanyahu and he will outmaneuver him.
I’m right there with you, BWD! I absolutely hate this humiliating dance macabre with the Likudite, and excuse me for saying so, racist, condescending power-playing. I can’t bear to watch these speeches to AIPAC and I can’t bear how it makes him look. I remember my congressmen, Schumer, and Weiner, jumping all over the administration when they castigated Bibi for his contemptuous settlement -building upon Biden’s visit. As a Black woman raised as a Jew in a Black synagogue, I am well-aware of the contradictions of caucasian Jewish liberalism. I know hoping for the Jewish community to expose this ultra-right posturing will be meant with disappointment, but nevertheless I yearn for this movement to develop.
I console myself knowing that the President knows exactly how the Likudites are trying to play him, and that he also has a genuine empathy with the sufferings of the Holocaust. But if Israel continues to play this rotten game, it will suffer, not at the hands of President Obama, but at the hands of those we cannot stop. No matter what the President does in this area he is liable to cause a disaffection of some community. I pray for his wisdom and strength. I have no doubt of his courage.

The $7.8bn (£4.9bn) deal does not address “significant damages” to the environment after the Gulf of Mexico spill, the Department of Justice said.
The company has not admitted liability and still faces other legal claims.

I thought Ron Paul was “Mr. Caucus”. He hasn’t won one yet has he? So his voters are way motivated, but they aren’t large in number to beat Romney at these caucuses?
I know we are supposed to be underestimating Ron Paul’s voters, but where is the power they were supposed to weild? The few articles I actually read about Ron Paul’s voters is that the majority of them who are more Dem/Independent leaning would vote for Obama in the general if they actually went to the polls I guess.

lamh35, if most of Paul supporters are Dems/Independents, I hope they would look at the radical right wing craziness of the Republican party and decide to vote for President Obama. I hope.
Rachel Maddow had one of Ron Paul’s campaign advisors on a couple weeks ago. He said that the campaign isn’t focusing on winning the caucuses but on increasing the number of delegates they’ll have at the convention. It seems that they think this is the way for Ron Paul to become the GOP nominee.
I don’t think they are under any illusions that Paul will become the nominee. Ron Paul is trying to be a king maker here, or trying to use his delegates as leverage for either getting himself and his son into power in the government or having a say in what goes into the GOP platform. Or both.
It’s a bargaining chip for his son. He’ll try to have enough delegates to “bribe” Willard into accepting Rand Paul.

Wishing everyone a Peaceful & Blessed Sunday, before I go to check the posts/comments I missed since giving in to sleep really early last night. Of course that only meant that I woke up 4 or 5 times. ;( Ah well! Enjoy your Sunday in whatever way floats your boat! 
President Obama and his relationship to the leadership of Israel is an issue of big concern to some here. Today, we get to hear from POTUS about this as he speaks to AIPAC. Yes I am concerned about the war-omngering crowd and their increasing volume. However, I for one trust that President Obama will say and do what he thinks is in the best long term interests of the USA and world peace even if it causes political posturing in the short term.
I will just pray for wisdom and peace to be increased on him at this time and in all his future dealings on the world stage
