And a star is born! Go Sandra!
LL = winner. But we knew that already
I’m only as good as the material I have to work with. Sandra is a gem.
Ah, but lesser men make a muck of good material, LL, wordsmiths like you take it and turn it in to gold.
Sandra Fluke is more than a gem. 2010 recipient of the Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles Fran Kandel Public Interest Grant. She was asked to testify in her area of ‘Expertise’, something Congressman Darrell Issa was unwilling to acknowledge.

Facts about this situation make the attacks against her even more INCREDIBLE.
LL thank you so much for posting the Mitt Romney or Mr Burns pic via Twitter for me! *hugs* You are too Wonderful!!! I thought I’d bring the praises here… it was just the nicest thing to do and go out of your way in doing!! Appreciated that very much!!

Thank you Alice!!!
Agree, Rush (and many others) really don’t get how massively connected we all are, now, and when we decide to ‘get it done,’ we do.
That’s true, Bob. He asked for a sex tape on the public airwaves. That has to be against FCC regs.
This is big Bain owns Clear Channel and Mittenn is so fuckig quite about it? wooow
presure. presure, presure from all of us has to work this time specially women.
Maybe we could also retire Barbara Walters. Just sayin’. xox
Yes, yes, and yes Rarbara said that Rush’s sponsors should NOT drop Rush Limpy and
if we do not like her show to turn it OFF we just did Thanks Barbara all she cares is about $$$$$$.
What Ms. WaWa doesn’t get is that Rush Limbaugh has a strangle hold on the GOP leadership. He isn’t some entertainer or private citizen. He, like Grover Norquist, affect our policies. So if anyone wants to go after Rush let them.
Oh, Ms. Wawa gets it, she just doesn’t care. She and Rush attend the same parties, and doesn’t want her friend to suffer any adverse consequences.
clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap!!! Barbara has needed to shut up and go sit down somewhere for a good, long time now.
yep, she better watch what she says. Somebody is going to call her a slut soon. She slept with a married congressman and others.
Thank you Bobfr for your unlenting twitter leadership. LL, Sandra Fluke is indeed a star: here we have a law student thrust into the national spotlight and exhibits courage and discipline on the crux of the matter.
OTOH, we have Romney in TN. reciting Davey Crockett when he should be demonstrating leadership skills. Thumbs up to Ms. Fluke; thumbs down to Robme, the “panderbear”.

She was amazing on the show. She knows her stuff.
Yeah, Ms. Fluke was absolutely amazing: here is an untrained media person who demonstrates unflagging focus and courage amongst this onslaught. She makes her case more cogently than some on our side. “Our side” meaning understanding and equality of women’s’ health.
WE have to keep it up. Have you signed the White House petition to Sec. Leon Panetta to Flush Limpy from Armed Forces Radio? Here’s the link:
Stick with it, you need to create an account – click the “Why?” for more information. As of now, it needs 16,000+ signatures by April 3.

yep, i had to try maybe half a dozen times before i could sign it, but it finally worked! i like to think there were zillions of us trying to sign all at once, that clogged it up.

Fox (!) poll showing Latinos overwhelming support of PBO.
“Despite growing disappointment in his handling of immigration issues, Latino voters favor President Barack Obama by six-to-one over any of the Republican presidential hopefuls, showed a Fox News Latino poll conducted under the direction of Latin Insights and released Monday.
The national poll of likely Latino voters indicated that 73 percent of them approved of Obama’s performance in office, with over half those questioned looking favorably upon his handling of the healthcare debate and the economy, at 66 percent and 58 percent respectively.
Released on the eve of the Super Tuesday primaries in the race for the GOP nomination, the Fox News Latino poll shows former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney with 35 percent of Latino voter support, to Texas Rep. Ron Paul’s 13 percent, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich’s 12 percent, and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum’s 9 percent.
But the poll shows that the overwhelming choice among likely Latino voters is President Obama. In head-to-head match-ups none of the GOP candidates would garner more than 14 percent of the Latino vote come November, the poll said.
“This is what we’re seeing across the country,” said Gabriela Domenzain, Obama campaign spokesperson. “The more Latinos learn about the candidates, the more they reject them.”
Unfortunately, most of my fellow Cubans will vote straight GOP.
Why do Cubans vote Republicans? Is it because of their stance on Castro?
Pretty much. And you have to realize, the Cubans who come to the States are generally conservative. So they’re a natural constituency for the GOP. But mostly, they’ve never forgiven the “betrayal” by JFK at the Bay of Pigs.
And they think that Republicans support them (Cubans)? Seriously? Even with some of the ignorant stuff that has come from MIttster R-money and Lil Ricky Sanctimonious?
Isonprize, one of the nicknames we Cubans have is “The Jews of the Caribbean”. When the RW nut jobs go on their rants about immigration, we KNOW they’re not talking about us. We’re special, “chosen” among those of Spanish descent, and better than other Latinos. It’s an attitude that quite frankly sickens me.
Yep. When Cubans arrive on US shores they’re greeted with a red carpet.
Haitians? Not so much. They’re turned back to drown or starve.
Oh that’s the attitude of every non-rich person that votes GOP. He’s going to cut Medicare? That’s fine, he doesn’t mean MY Medicare just the undeserving ones.
Wow I see.
Wow, just wow. Thanks for the insight.
And, to drive home the point, most Cubans who come here are white, not Afro-Cubans. And Cuba was a very racist society, holding onto slavery even after the US Civil War.
It sickens me too, LL. And, to vote for willard the plastic rat shows that they’re no better than a brainwashed idiot.
It has to do with the Bay of Pigs debacle. But I’ve read some of the younger generation is leaving the GOP.
Oops, LL, didn’t know you had already replied (and replied much better, I might add!).
And some of us *cough*ahem*cough* have never been with the GOP. As the ’59 generation starts to pass, I have a feeling that Cuban voting patterns will start to mirror those of the larger Latino community.
I agree, I believe the younger generation will see the light.
She is good. One tough, smart composed lady!
We’re alone here, so let me tell you how much I am enjoying your articles. I seldom comment, but I always read what you write.
Thank you, Eve! I’m glad you enjoy my writing. Thank Deaniac for giving me a space to pontificate.
LL yes your articles are really terrific you should be proud of yourself HE. HE.
Consumer Bureau targets student loan abuses
Attention, current and former college students: If you or your loved ones have borrowed — or tried to — to finance your education, Richard Cordray wants to hear from you.
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which has held public hearings on payday loans and is rewriting the rules on bank overdraft fees, is now accepting complaints from students and their loved ones about the difficulties of obtaining and repaying college loans, according to a press release issued today. As part of its mandate, the CFPB wants to help borrowers who have struggled to get a private student loan, have had problems eliminating the debt or had difficulties managing a school loan that has gone into default or into collection.
“The ability to work hard and better yourself through education is part of what makes this country so great,” said Cordray, the CFPB’s director. “But getting a higher education can mean taking on significant debt – a big decision with a lot of consequences. The CFPB is now the one-stop federal agency where all private student loan borrowers can ask questions, get information, and file a complaint about this important market.”
While the CFPB will alone manage the private student loan complaints, the CFPB will work closely with the Department of Education to route complaints that fall under their purview as the overseer of federal student loans. The agencies executed a memorandum of understanding to ensure close coordination.
Examples of federal loans include Direct loans, Stafford loans, Perkins loans, and PLUS loans.

Love it! Bit by bit, we are perfecting our union.
Uhhh…okay. Shop around.
Once again, open mouth insert foot. How about making sure that colleges come together and find a way to reduce the insane cost of tuition? How about finding a way Federal and private student loans can have a low interest rate? How about finding a way to increase federal revenue and pump some much needed money into education so that there can be more grants available for students? How about finding a way to provide incentives for private companies to offer scholarships and grants?
His only answer is shop around or serve in the military for a free education. Only a privileged asshole who hasn’t had to endure the rigors of paying for an education or serving in the military would speak so cavalierly.
and don’t you know the rethugs would love to eliminate the snobby educational benefits attached to military service?

Sandra Fluke Urges The View Audience to “Go To Media Matters” For Examples Of Commentators Who Attacked Her
@SandraFluke is the epitome of grace and class. The complete opposite of the big blob of mucus that is Limpballs and that twit Elizabeth Hassleback (or whatever the hell her name is).
I say, be the change and lets all try to be respectful to all women, regardless of their political views.
I’m sorry.Women who stand with fat limp on this insanity deserve to be mocked since they give him the cover.
On our Georgia, Ohio, and Tennessee Republican polls in addition to looking at the Presidential race we also polled on some of the issues that have been in the news over the last week: Rush Limbaugh and the reemergence of birtherism.
Our numbers suggest that Rush Limbaugh has seen significant erosion in his popularity with Republican voters over the last week. The last time we polled on him nationally he was at 80/12 with GOPers. But now we find him below 50% in all three of these states: he’s at 45/28 in Ohio, 46/29 in Tennessee, and 44/30 in Georgia.
Republican women in particular have become very skeptical about Limbaugh in the states holding tomorrow’s 2 most competitive contests. He’s at only 39/28 with them in Ohio and 36/30 in Tennessee.
Ms Fluke was amazing. I wish if some of our female pundits could be that coherent. To paraphrase R. Kipling, the female species have long memories and can be more aggressive then their male counterparts. If somebody remembers the poem be free to quote or recite.
Limbaugh ‘apology’ doesn’t end controversy
By Steve Benen
Indeed, the fight appears to be expanding. On one side, we see VoteVets releasing a letter today from a group of female veterans “calling on the American Forces Network to drop Rush Limbaugh from its programming.” On the other, some in the far-right media are taking a “Rally for Rush” line.
Greg Sargent noted that Limbaugh appears to have lost any semblance of control over the story, and his Saturday statement “has done absolutely nothing to reassure his sponsors or to quell the controversy.”
For Republicans who wish Limbaugh had kept his mouth shut from the beginning, this is not what the party wanted to hear.
And, as some have already wisely noted, what #Rush totally destroyed was the “Religious Freedom” meme

The man who made the reckless decision to pick Sarah Palin as his running mate is calling for airstrikes on Syria? Imagine that? The thought that he was actually running to be the leader of the free world is horrifying. The maverick label is a joke. For three years this man has done absolutely nothing constructive for the country. He could have shown some leadership but he went along in lockstep with Mitch McConnell’s obstruction. Now he wants everyone to hop to it and listen to what he has to say about airstrikes in Syria. He disgusts me.
LA Times/Chgo Trib decent reporting on the Fluke appearance:
How Romney Advocated Obamacare and Lied About It
By Jonathan Chait
The remarkable thing is that none of Romney’s opponents challenged these demonstrably false claims. If you check the transcripts of the debates, Romney simply lies about what he advocated, and then everybody lets it go.
Among other things, this underscores the sheer incompetence of his opposition. Kaczynski is an excellent researcher, but it’s not as if he had to comb the ends of the Earth to find these nuggets. He culled them from such sources as USA Today and Meet the Press. Every opposing campaign either failed to look up this basic stuff or failed to train the candidate to understand it. Romney is now on the verge of escaping with the party nomination having embraced a program his party considers inimical to freedom itself and blatantly lied about having done so without any major opponents pointing this out. It’s pretty incredible.
and where the fuck were the”moderators”?

Romney’s Mandate Argument Gets Even Shakier
By Jonathan Cohn
If that doesn’t convince you, then listen closely to the clip Kaczynski found from “Meet the Press.” (See above.) Not only does Romney cite the Massachusetts plan as a model. He also speaks favorably of the Wyden-Bennett health care bill, the elegant but ultimately unpopular bipartisan bill. That proposal had, you guessed it, a mandate.
As my friend Jonathan Chait observes, these clips are a revealing (if not surprising) window into how Romney’s mind works. At the time he made these statements, the big controversy in the health care reform debate was over whether to establish a government-run insurance plan as part of the coverage scheme. Liberals were in favor, conservatives were against, so Romney decided to plant his flag there: He’d speak out strongly against the public plan, while touting his Massachusetts model as proof of his leadership skills.
don’t mean to sound cynical, but just had to add that it doesn’t hurt that Sandra Fluke looks like a madonna!!!
she has the right temperament for this. You are right that she is madonna-like in her serenity with just a hint of fire when she is ticked off.

Peter Gabriel to Rush Limbaugh: Stop Using My Music.
Rush and the GOP are going over the cliff. The GOP has gotten close before but this is finally it! This war on women is the final straw. Women don’t forget (that is why we are excellent multi-taskers). Those in the GOP who think they can duck and this storm will pass over are mistaken. This is not going away. And Sandra Fluke is a big reason why. This young woman with a calm demeanor, and a backbone of steel is intelligent, articulate, and soft spoken–and for all of these reasons she will persevere. Another reason is because woman across this country are waking up to the fact that if we don’t fight back in this war we could all end up being toast! Keep talking Rush, just don’t look down–that cliff is getting pretty damn close!

Obama’s re-election campaign quietly organizes while Republicans fight
.By Olivier Knox
White House Correspondent
Pete and Nancy Stroble call Ohio voters for Barack Obama. (Olivier Knox/Yahoo News)
BEAVERCREEK, Ohio—President Barack Obama’s supporters waited all of two months after his inauguration to start laying the groundwork here for what has become a re-election machine that is bigger and tougher than his would-be Republican rivals’ nightmarish imaginings.
Oh, I’m afraid the Obama campaign will be quite operational when his Republican challenger arrives.
Powerful, the president’s re-election effort is: A new NBC News/Marist poll finds Obama trouncing his opponents in hypothetical general-election matchups in this state. He leads Mitt Romney in Ohio by 12 points among registered voters, 50 percent to 38 percent; Ron Paul by 10 points, 48 percent to 38 percent; Rick Santorum by 14 points, 50 percent to 36 percent; and Newt Gingrich by 15 points, 51 percent to 36 percent.
While the seesaw battle for the Republican Party’s presidential nomination has grabbed the news media spotlight, the unopposed Democratic incumbent has quietly worked to enlist new supporters and woo back the armies of volunteers and small donors who powered his historic victory in 2008.
A4alice, get some rest. I hope that you will feel better. Thanks for all that you do for all of us on Twitter.HZ
Good afternoon everyone. Here’s a bit of humor for some of you:
Subject: TD Jakes got pulled over
T. D. Jakes was returning to Texas after a speaking engagement. When
his plane arrived, there was a limousine there to transport him to His
home in Dallas . As he prepared to get into the limo, he stopped and
Spoke to the driver. ‘You know’ he said, ‘I am almost 50 years old and
I have never driven a limousine. Would you mind if drove it for a
while?’ The driver said, ‘No problem, Bishop T. D. Jakes gets into the
driver’s seat and they head off down The highway. A short distance
away sat a rookie State Trooper operating His first speed trap. The
long black limo went by him doing 70 in a 55 mph zone. The trooper
pulled out and easily caught the limo and got out of his patrol car to
begin the procedure. The young trooper walked up to the driver’s door
and when the glass was rolled down he was surprised to see who was
driving. He immediately excused himself and went back to his car and
called his supervisor. He told the supervisor, ‘I know we are supposed
to enforce the law but I also know that important people are sometimes
given certain courtesies. I need to know what I should do because I
have stopped a very important person.’ ‘The supervisor asked, ‘Is it
the governor?’ The young trooper said, ‘No, he’s more important than
that.’ The supervisor said, ‘Oh, so it’s the president.’ The young
trooper said, ‘No, he’s even more important than that.’ The supervisor
finally asked, ‘Well then, who is it?’ The young trooper said, I think
it’s Jesus because he’s got T. D. Jakes for a chauffeur!!!!!
KEEP SMILING………..IT DOESN’T HURT TO LAUGH EITHER!
My only response, yardarm: are you fucking kidding me and is this type of incident too common in the “rule of law”?
As a sailor, I pray you will forgive me for my unladylike] “french”.
It all depends on location.
bah haha Yardarm!
Yardarm, you are another reason why I love this place. Thanks for the laughter. Healing to my soul.HZ
Rush vs. Sandra Fluke: The fight Obama wants
It has been an almost embarrassingly lucky few weeks for Barack Obama politically, what with Mitt Romney detained at the altar and unemployment, for the time, abating. But that was just a prelude to the lavish political gift granted to the White House by Rush Limbaugh, the opponent they have always wanted.
The Limbaugh “slut” and “prostitute” rant against Georgetown Law student/contraception advocate Sandra Fluke — which seems to be completely overshadowing boring old Super Tuesday — matters. It matters to Rush (he’s lost seven sponsors and counting), but it probably matters a lot more to Mitt Romney and anyone else running under the GOP flag in districts that contain, you know, women.
No one’s calling 2012 “The Year of the Woman,” because all of the headliners are now men. But it is.
I’m not sure it’s the fight that PBO wants b/c he has always said that we want throw the first punch, but we’ll throw the last. Now, that Rush has thrown the first punch, and many ugly punches at Ms. Fluke & all women, for that matter, PBO has their collective backs. Game on!
Romney To College Student: If You Want Affordable College, ‘Shop Around’ Or Join The Military
By Travis Waldron on Mar 5, 2012 at 2:23 pm
The amount of student loan debt held by Americans surpassed $1 trillion last year, as the average student debt load surpassed $25,000. The race for the Republican presidential nomination, however, has been largely absent of talk about higher education policy, particularly from front-runner Mitt Romney, who doesn’t list education as one of the topics on his campaign web site’s “Issues” page.
At a town hall meeting in Ohio today, Romney was asked how he planned to help students better afford college. Instead of offering substantive policy solutions aimed at bringing down the cost of college, Romney told students that they should “shop around” for an affordable school or “think about serving the country” in order to get a free education:
ROMNEY: The legislature in my state came together and said, ‘You know what, anyone that’s willing to serve in the National Guard, we’ll provide for tuition and fees for four years of college to make sure you get that start.’ So if you’re willing to serve, then we can be of more help. But my best advice is find a great institution of higher learning, find one that has the right price, and shop around. In America, this idea of competition, it works! [...] I want to make sure that every kid in this country that wants to go to college gets the chance to go to college. If you can’t afford it, scholarships are available, shop around for loans, make sure you go to a place that’s reasonably priced, and if you can, think about serving the country ’cause that’s a way to get all that education for free.
‘Romney told students that they should “shop around” for an affordable school or “think about serving the country” in order to get a free education:’
In all his long months of campaigning I have never been unlucky enough to catch Willard choosing any path other than the path of least resistance. He’s basically always saying, whatever is happening now, let it continue to happen, except when he declares he’s going to repeal healthcare. He has not offered ONE reason I’ve heard that shows he thinks seriously about the issues facing the country.
Good lord, the man has no moral compass. If Germany can afford to send its students to university FREE OF CHARGE, then certainly The World’s Last Superpower can make college affordable.
All @MittRomney had to say re @RushLimbaugh's slut remark on #sandrafluke was "…not words I would have chosen." Women voters, take notice!— D Wasserman Schultz (@DWStweets) March 05, 2012
WASHINGTON — The Hall of Famous Missourians in the Missouri State Capitol is filled with the busts of famous people from the Show-Me State.
There are political figures (Harry Truman, John Ashcroft), writers (Laura Ingalls Wilder), musicians (Scott Joplin, Charlie Parker) and even a game show host (Bob Barker).
Right-wing radio personality Rush Limbaugh, who is currently embroiled in controversy after he called a female law student advocating for contraception coverage a “slut,” will soon be joining that esteemed group.
On Feb. 13, Kansas City, Mo. sculptor E. Spencer Schubert posted on his blog that he was in the process of sculpting busts of Limbaugh and Dred Scott, a slave who unsuccessfully sued for freedom for himself and his family in the famous 1857 case Dred Scott v. Sandford, to go into the Missouri State Capitol.
Schubert also posted a picture of him working on the Limbaugh bust, with a photo of the radio host pulled up on his computer screen.
Schubert has taken the picture down and not returned a request for comment.

New post everyone:
WOW – Sandra Fluke really empowers women like myself who would be too shy to appear on TV and speak convincingly about our health and rights. I will be sending her a tweet of support and immense gratitude!! Thanks for posting that video Chips, and thanks to UT for bringing this to our attention
She is extremely articulate. The fat pig was dumb to pick on her. Hope she sues the shit out of him.
Well Ms. Fluke is just outstanding.. very proud of her, as a woman- and frankly she put those women on The View to shame.. this is exactly the kind of thing they ought to be advocating for and standing up for, being a ‘women’s’ show.
Anyway, I have her back.. along with, I’m sure, millions of other women & men.
I loved seeing Ms. Fluke on the View today. And she did indeed put them to shame. She totally shut down Elizabeth and Whoopi especially. They looked like silly uninformed school girls next to Sandra Fluke.
Barbara Walters also looked like a shill for Rush, practically begging Sandra to “accept” Rush’s apology. Sandra was so cool in her reply. “If you read the entire piece…..” I wrote Barbara and told her exactly what I thought of that performance. She probably won’t read it, but it sure felt good. She thinks she is a goddess…..she’s NOT!!!
Oh, we have a new word at our house. Today my husband I took our two dogs for a walk by the lake we live next to. I was trotting a little ahead with Chanel, and he called out….”Stop for Rose as she leaves a big Limbaugh!” You can guess what that was! So……when my husband cleans the back yard, he’ll be cleaning Limbaughs!!!!
I love this, quite sensible, and accurate actually! Carolyn, I hope this really catches on… scoop bag holders in the park could read: limbags here!
