Palin Says Obama Wants To Return To Racial Discrimination ‘That Took Place Before The Civil War’
By Adam Peck on Mar 9, 2012 at 9:35 am
Sean Hannity brought Sarah Palin on his Fox News show yesterday to continue his discussion from the night before over the biggest non-story of the week — a video of President Obama from his days at Harvard Law School.
But during their discussion, Palin opened up a new front in her attack of President Obama, apparently suggesting America’s first black president wants to return to the days “before the Civil War”:
Now, it has taken all these years for many Americans to understand that that gravity, that mistake, took place before the Civil War and why the Civil War had to really start changing America. What Barack Obama seems to want to do is go back to before those days when we were in different classes based on income, based on color of skin.
That woman is a dam idiot. And I ain’t apologizing.
No need annie. In fact I think you’re too kind.
Imagine. That idiot could have been a heartbeat away from the Presidency!
I concur. She’s a bloody moron.
Anniebella, you absolutely need not apologize for politely speaking the TRUTH. I was about to unleash some expletives to describe Sarah Palin’s, and Sean Hannity’s idiocy! But, out of respect for the TOD family, I held back. I, however, support your comment 100%
When is the half term governor going to tell us about Glenn Rice?
Palin is pushing for HBO to do a sequel that won’t show her in such a kind light as the one out now.
That make no sense whatsoever! Not that she ever does, but..
Not interested….waste of data.
Yes that’s exactly what Black people want. We voted for President Obama because he specifically promised us he would return to the days when we were 3/5ths a human being.
Sarah is writing on her hand again.
“Barack Obama wants to take us back to before the Civil War where people were not considered equal?” WTF!! How can anyone, even her deluded supporters believe that?
pox news…. tundra twit…. meh.
Wow….so many at old orange are regaining consciousness:
“Dear Mr. President,
I owe you an apology, and I sincerely hope that after reading this letter (if it somehow makes its way to you), you will find it in your heart to forgive me.
During the 2008 election, you inspired me to a level of unprecedented political engagement in American politics. I canvassed door-to-door and on college campuses – as well as in online political and not-so-political chat rooms (oh, the adventures) – registering voters with one goal in mind: to secure your place in the White House.
I believed in you, despite my natural-born cynicism and grounded understanding of our political system’s current dysfunction. I believed in you not because of your campaign rhetoric, but because of the deep sincerity I intuited in that rhetoric.
That sincerity is rare.
And then something changed after you assumed the presidency. Over time, I became somewhat disillusioned, reverting to my former, cynical self. Over the last three years, I have done little to praise you.
The truth is, I have mainly critiqued you.
……..after looking more closely and honestly at your own presidency, I have come to realize the following:
Not only must I praise you, but I must praise you
for being the greatest President of my lifetime.”
Worth the read.
Thanks for the article. It’s a good read but these emoprog types piss me the hell off. It’s only when PBO is compared to the crazy nutjobs on the right running for his office that these emoprogs see that they’ve been blessed to have someone like PBO in their corner, fighting for their ungrateful instant gratification asses every day. Why couldn’t he have accepted and lauded PBO’s accomplishments in a stand alone manner? Instead he spent 3 years whining and bitching. What was there for him to be cynical and whine about? Gitmo wasn’t closed? Oops. Go blame your “progressive” heroes Bernie Sanders and Russ Feingold. NDAA? Go blame Congress for passing the bill. PBO on the other hand neutered the dangerous elements oif the bill. SOPA? Ooops….it was PBO who stopped that in its tracks. DADT? Well if you had only waited instead of throwing tantrums you’d see it got repealed eventually. Healthcare reform not having a public option and therefore condemned to failure in their blinkered minds. Oopps again. It’s actually very powerful and is on its way to morphing into a form of single payer. I’m glad he’s seen the light but I don’t hold out much hope for his kind. After PBO wins a second term, they’ll revert back to their peanut gallery, armchair quarterbacking nonsense.
Right on, ut, they have fucked up often, and badly. Three years. A fraction of time. Apologies are one thing, undoing the harm they hav caused is another. I am certain PBO is more gracious about apologies than TODObots are!
I don’t trust them and don’t accept their apology. In another month they will be back to their nassty ways..
Agreed. I liken them to fair-weather friends. When life is good they’re in your corner but when things go bad they are no where to be found. I think they see that PBO is succeeding in spite of them and without their “support” so now that all thehard work has been done to get us to this point here they come ready to jump on the bandwagon and as we get closer to PBO’s re-election many of them will pretend they never jumped off the bandwagon and that they were with PBO all along. They’ve made his successes so much harder to achieve and don’t even get me started on the 2010 elections.
They are like children who disinvited themselves to the party and are now stuck outside with their little faces pressed against the window watching everyone else enjoying the party. They want in. It can’t be fun watching how PBO’s true supporters are enjoying his presidency, his great speeches, great receptions by the people, fun moments with him singing and with babies, the First Lady and her activities and appearances and Bo and all his cuteness. How can you enjoy those things when you’ve been b%tching about PBO since day one without looking like a hypocrite and a fool. I’ll take their vote and their silence but their apologies? Thanks, but no thanks.
Take ‘er easy ut. It’s not like skydivin’ without a parachute, ya know? The main thing is at least one person is tired of looking in the elephants ass for salvation. Those changes will come as we get closer to 11/6/2012. We really need to concern ourselves with this voter suppression b.s. The big elephant is busy trying to keep certain people from shoving a logging chain up his ass. ;-D
You’re absolutely right ut!
I’m a sucker anytime I hear anybody call my President “the greatest”, because I obviously truly believe it and not once ever wavered in my support and trust in him, and so I tend to want to forgive and forget, but on deeper thought, these people do not deserve any consideration or forgiveness after the way they went after PBO basically from day one, not even the decency to give him a fair amount of time into his term they didn’t bother with. They definitely do not deserve this great President as their President! But whatever, I guess we can use their votes for that landslide that’s coming up.
Exactly! If you saw Stewart’s takedown of Hannity for the Huggin’ Nuthin’ you’d think he was off the ‘emoprog’ kick; but he took him down by showing him how he really should have criticized the President— for reneging on Gitmo, and for hiring the same economic advisors (Larry Summers) that brought us the repeal of Glass-Steagall. These half-hearted, summertime supporters are scary and do their damage in subtle ways that sneak-up on the cynical liberals like the DK penitent. And they do it with humor snapshots and sound-bytes that purport to be honest little digs, but have almost subliminal impact. I don’t trust ‘em because they have not changed the superficial nature of their analyses.
This!! Thank you UT.
Thanks UT…I have to REALLY evaluate my unwillingness to just go along and accept this ‘apology’. What he should have been apologizing for is his role in ushering in the crazy-town clowns in the first place during mid-term elections. Hell, while he’s at it, apologize to Nancy Pelosi for fucking up the ONLY progress the House of Representatives (representatives of, by and for the people) made for the American people in my lifetime. While he’s at it, apologize to every local, regional democratic who lost their seats because he sat on his hands with his sanctimonious thumb up his ass. This president doesn’t want your weak ass apologies. So, we had Bill Maher last week and this fucking idiot this week. Who’s next? This latest incarnation of enlightenment is tired.
UT, you are a clear example of why I sincerely believe that “Wisdom” is not restricted to age! I am just so impressed with your ability to critically analyze issues and people’s behaviors. With young people like you, I know the future of this country is in good hands. As we used to say in my young days, I hope you keep on keeping on with your fearless TRUTH telling!
I didn’t read the article but just from your post I am hoping with the new 17 minute showing of the last three years of accomplishments in the ad next week more people will react this way.
I actually would hope that maybe something like this can be done with the ACA to inform people of the benefits to them of this healthcare program and somehow oppose it to what was there before and the insurance practices that made this what our President heard most about across the country when he did his 2 yr campaigning. I say this due to the fact that it still seems people are not getting why this was an important change from the polling results.
“Over the last three years, I have done little to praise you. The truth is, I have mainly critiqued you. ……..after looking more closely and honestly at your own presidency, I have come to realize the following:
Not only must I praise you, but I must praise you
for being the greatest President of my lifetime.”
So now months before the election you realized all that and are back on the wagon? Chile please. Sounds like Ike Turner.
Good morning Chips and TOD family! It has been a long crazy 2 days for me. It is always so frustrating on my part when I can’t keep up on TOD with all that is going on. At least this morning I will be able to watch the President with all of you. Now off to catch up on all the posts before the President speaks.

That was great, yardarm. I’ve shared it and now wish I could save it to my harddrive for constant viewing as I look out over the encircling ring of my foxhole;-)
You should be able to save it easy. Just highlight the link then take your cursor up to edit find copy them open a folder in windows(if thats what you have)then do edit and click paste. Good luck.
Make sure you keep your head and butt down. A bullet in either location would hurt.
That was lovely yardarm. Thank you for sharing it.
Reminded me that I do put work before family and friends way too much. I’m gonna fix that this weekend.
It ain’t gonna hurt. You can take THAT to the bank.

Republicans struggle to respond to improving jobs numbers
By Greg Sargent
With the economy now showing signs of a true recovery, there’s a common thread running through all the rhetoric Republicans are employing in response: It’s all premised on the hope that the American people have forgotten just how awful an economic crisis Obama inherited when he took office.
Multiple Republicans have responded to today’s report of 227,000 jobs added in February by attacking Obama’s policies for slowing down what would otherwise be a more robust recovery.
Here’s one of RNC chair Reince Priebus’s responses to today’s jobs report: “back in 2006 the jobs report was better than it was today and Dems were slamming Bush because of it.”
Historians will note that there’s a small problem with the parallel Mr. Priebus drew here: In 2006, the economy was not recovering from the worst crisis since the Great Depression.
Sigh of dejection! Hean hung, feet dragging! Sigh! Won’t even count what number I am.

Good morning, TODville.
I was missing in action yesterday as I had a presentation to give at our Summer Reading Program Kickoff. It went quite splendidly. Obviously, from typing you can’t tell that I’ve lived with a stutter for most of my life. In 2003 I started seeing a doctor in Irvine who was experimenting with drug therapy for stuttering; he too stutters. I’ve been on this therapy for 9 years now, and it has quite literally saved my life. There’s no way I could do the job I do — children’s librarian — without the therapy. So while I definitely think that the pharmaceutical industry charges way too much for its drugs, I do appreciate the R&D that goes into it.
Anyway, hung out with a friend last night. We went to Largo at the Coronet in West Hollywood to watch a performance by Garfunkel and Oates, a hilarious musical comedy duo. They sang this particular song, which I think is very appropriate to bring here. Enjoy!

Wasn’t this during the negotiation in which Boehner’s side got 98% of what he wanted? And in that 98% he hadn’t made sure he covereded the limits being put on discretionary spending. Boehner certainly has provided lots and lots of data to show that he and his team are not forward thinkers.

Will the Obama campaign return Maher’s super PAC money for Sasha & Malia? fxn.ws/zz93yF @gretawire @kirstenpowers10
2 minutes ago
They’re trying so desperately to equate Maher with Limbaugh.
Can they please get off this false equivalency BS? There is a major difference between someone in the arena and someone who is not. Sandra Fluke is/was not in the arena…Sarah Palin is, Laura Ingraham is. As a female, I don’t condone what Maher said BUT I also understand that if you throw shots, someone will throw shots at you–Gender be damned.
Did Sarah not call Letterman a pervert? Has she not call the Prez a socialist, more or less said Michelle was a bully? And I will remind Sarah Heathe of something she said about Hillary’s “whining”
As she would say “Man Up”
100% concur. Don’t agree with some of Maher’s words when characterizing Palin or rightwingers like Ingraham but it’s not as though those vile creatures don’t throw the first punch and rile the public when the waters are calm. They go out there and hurl slurs at people and don’t expect for some mud to be flung their way? Talk about hypocrisy. This false equivalency nonsense is so played out. Sandra Fluke is a private citizen not a public figure out there looking to make news. She went to Congress to testify about the medical neccessities for birth control and not only was she insulted in a vile manner, her words and testimony were distorted, and her character viciously maligned. Now they want to bring the First Daughters into the fray and demand for the President to postrate before them with an apology on a silver platter? Dream on ——–.
Anyone remember any of Sarah’s whining? Remember when SP made the memorial for those that died at the Gabby Gifford’s Campaign shooting in Tucson, AZ about an attack on herself. Remember all the claims of the media’s unfair questions and on and on?
The President has no control over the super PAC, Karl. You should know the rules.

I see Mark Knoller on twitter is all huffy that President Obama “has shifted into campaign crescendo and cadence”, sounding too campaigny for him, I guess. Too good at these appearances? Would prefer talk of affection for trees and lakes and cars and grits? Something more boring and not as optimistic?
Mark Knoller has been mighty pizzed all day starting with the good news on the economy. He posted a whole series of “negative” spin about the jobs numbers. And now he has been posting nasty, petty remarks about PBO’s speech, how PBO had a “smirk” on his face when he mentioned congress, and how PBO’s speech sound more like a campaign speech than an official speech, etc. I guess he’s realizing that his fantasy of Romney occupying the WH is becoming and more remote. And he’s NOT happy about it.

Video: Eric Schlosser Talks Food and Class
It takes so much longer for leading Republicans to stumble onto things. Do you really want them leading the country?
Not at all surprising, just another example of ‘Hypocrisy thy name is Eric Cantor’
I urge @SenatorReid to act quickly & send the #JOBSAct to the President so we can help get more people back to work #tcot— Eric Cantor (@GOPLeader) March 09, 2012
The intent and message of the AJA has finally seeped into Cantor’s brain!
The #JOBSAct is also a welcome sign that we can put aside our differences and come together to produce results and create a thriving economy— Eric Cantor (@GOPLeader) March 09, 2012
There is something so unsalty about this man.
Totally clueless, yet dangerous IMO. The things he says with a straight face sometimes cause me to shiver in dread. Mostly because he holds such a high position and seems so heartless/wooden, yet composed.
Very dangerous indeed. That man really scares, while Bohner doesn’t for example.
Exactly. Because of his tears, Boehner at times just seems pathetic and apologetic, fumbling around helplessly awaiting instructions, or for someone to pat him on the back in encouragement. I think he’s well aware that he’s bitten off too much this time around. Cantor, on the other hand is extremely full of himself. To me he seems the type who will make excellent eye contact, might even smile, while pushing the knife into you. Not only wouldn’t I want him on my side, I wouldn’t turn my back on him either!
The TOD tweeter brigade should tweet Cantor that he is going down. Lying to the american public is not gonna save him.
I knew this was coming. The reason Cantor wants to suddenly pass the Jobs Act is so he and his cohorts can take some credit for a rapidly recovering economy and save their sorry hides in November. You can bet if the numbers were in the tank he wouldn’t even bring this up.
I hope the President makes them pay by tripling what he originally asked for and still blaming them for doing nothing.
My response to Eric Cantor is this…..
Republican Job Creation
Just to be clear, Cantor isn’t talking about the AJA. It’s some other Republican thingy-do they passed today called the JOBS act. I’m sure it is a very clever acronym, but I have no idea what that is. I also don’t know what’s in the bill, but I have a feeling tax cuts for billionaires figures into it somehow.
I know it’s not the original #AJA, but I believe they have co-opted parts of the original and are adding amendments. I feel the Dems, along with PBO, can vet their amendments to the point where we can get a bill through that gives Cantor & Boehner ’98%’ of what they wanted, and give America what she needs. You are right though, I better go look it up and be sure I am making the right assumptions.
Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi responded to a question about the GOP JOBSAct at her weekly press conference on March 1. She makes a good point about what the JOBSAct represents. The GOP is hoping none of us will catch on to their slight of hand.
>>>>>QUESTION TO NANCY PELOSI ABOUT THE GOP JOBSACT, READ CAREFULLY<<<<<<<
Q: Madam Leader, the JOBS Act, the package of small business provisions that Leader Cantor and Speaker Boehner are now putting forward, they made claims yesterday, to express that the President seems supportive, or at least somewhat. How do you feel about the JOBS Act? Will Democrats support it? Do you think it is an opportunity to get it passed out of here?
Leader Pelosi. Well, those bills have passed. I think four of them have passed, there were 400 votes on the floor of the House. This is the path of least resistance. And, well, one of them is a Democratic bill, which they have renamed a Republican bill, but that is okay, just so the American people are well served by it. So, yes.
But that is not any substitute. That is sort of just a preliminary to what we have to do with a big jobs bill about transportation, where there is a public private partnership to rebuild America, to promote commerce, to move people, to increase broadband communication, all of the things that you would do in the infrastructure and transportation bill.
That is what, what this country needs. So while this little package is, I think, viewed positively, it is not any substitute for the jobs bill that we need.
Q: Leader Pelosi, do you see any area of common ground with Republicans on energy policy, in terms of something Congress could do right now to bring down gas prices?
Leader Pelosi. Well, we could address the issue of speculation. First of all…

LH, I’ve been trying to weave my way back to thank you for sharing this piece since signing on tonight, but kept getting distracted. Thanks. I am aware that pride and hardheartedness will not allow Cantor and his ilk to cave completely – after all we can’t forget they are playing a ‘game’. It’s obvious they’re only capitulating now, even though in a small way, because things are not going the way they hoped and they’re trying to prevent themselves from being left completely out in the barn as America moves on. Nevertheless, as Nancy P said – ‘but that is okay, just so the American people are well served by it. So, yes ‘ [ I'm pointing to the fact that months later they are now talking jobs].
The President is fired up and so am I. No amount of negative remarks will damper the positive facts we heard and see. Keep on keeping on Mr. President. It’s working. MADE IN AMERICA!

Lawyer: Prosecute Rush Limbaugh for defamation
A high-profile attorney is calling for Rush Limbaugh to be prosecuted on a defamation charge, saying an obscure Florida law can be used to punish him for calling a college student a “slut” and a “prostitute” on the air.
Gloria Allred, the famed celebrity lawyer, sent a letter to the Palm Beach County Attorney’s Office on Thursday saying prosecutors should consider a charge under an 1883 law making it a misdemeanor to question a woman’s chastity.
“He has personally targeted her and vilified her, and he should have to bear the consequences of his extremely outrageous, tasteless and damaging conduct,” Allred said in a phone interview Friday.
Limbaugh had no immediate comment on the letter and didn’t address it in the opening hour of his radio show Friday.
Denise Nieman, the county attorney, said she forwarded the letter to the state attorney’s office, which handles criminal matters. The state attorney’s office had no immediate comment.

These pundits who keep saying that the youth are depressed, that they’re not paying attention to politics and what’s going on are INSANE. I’m in college and let me tell you College Democrats are on fire! Students who are Democrats are on fire! I post everything PBO does on Facebook. Every news, every accomplishment, every step forward and my college friends and some whom I haven’t seen since high school are pumped up! They read everything, they “like” it on facebook, even people whom I never thought were Democrats are thanking me for putting news about PBO on facebook and all around my college campus people are beginning to break out their Obama 2012 campaign gear. I see buttons, shirts, bumper stickers, car magnets. It’s everywhere. I haven’t seen a Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, or Newt Gingrich 2012 paraphernalia. Students of all races, ethnicities, genders, and ages are definitely in PBO’s corner and we all grin and give each other thumbs up signs when we spot each other wearing an Obama 2012 t-shirt or hoodie or messenger bag etc.

Although Rush Limbaugh’s official line is that everything’s cool with his sponsorship base, and that the boycott involves only local sponsors or companies that don’t even sponsor him at all, the circumstantial evidence that he’s hurting bad continues to mount.
Here’s an AmericaBlog report (based on Media Matters data) from late yesterday (amplifying earlier reports of “dead air”) about the strange doings on his flagship radio station:
Rush Limbaugh is in trouble. Two days ago he didn’t have a single unpaid public service announcement on his flagship show on WABC in NYC. Yesterday, 56% of his ads in NYC were unpaid PSAs. Today, 90% were unpaid PSAs, and the show included three occurrences of ‘dead air’.

The most-heated town hall clash of the year started today with a shouting match, drove Gov. Chris Christie to call a vocal opponent to the proposed Rutgers Camden-Rowan merger an “idiot,” and ended with a stern talking-to by police.
Just four questions in, Christie called on William Brown, a 34-year-old law school student and veteran from Mt. Laurel, who explained, calmly at first: “I know that all my friends in the military no matter what state they’re from respect that fact that I go to Rutgers. It’s also true that none of my friends in the military no matter what state they’re from have ever heard of Rowan.”
Brown, a Democrat who ran an unsuccessfully for Assembly last year, says he’s a Navy Seal who served in Iraq. As he testified before the Rutgers Board of Governors last month, he argued the Christie-sanctioned plan to rebrand the South Jersey campus under the Rowan name would rob students of opportunities afforded by Rutgers’ reputation. The Republican governor began to explain that current students would still graduate with degrees from Rutgers.
But Brown shouted from audience: “What about my son? What about my neighbors? What about my friends?”
An audience clinging to every word dissolved into applause, following by a quintessential Christie sendoff: “Let me tell you something after you graduate from law school you conduct yourself like that in a courtroom, your rear end is going to be thrown in jail, idiot.”
“I’m a combat veteran Navy Seal, how’s that?” Brown shouted back.
ooooo — popcorn!
Okay, Mr. Governor, I didn’t know a town hall was a courtroom.
The late Will Rodgers made this observation:
“After eating an entire bull, a mountain lion felt so
good he started roaring. He kept it up until a hunter
came along and shot him.

Sorry for going superficial in light of the serious subject of the video, but that man should NEVER take off his jacket.
you are so right. Buffalo butt! Man is round around there.
Let him try running for President with that kind of temperament. Even when PBO gets (unfairly) heckled, he’s never engages in nasty name-calling put downs – he’s always respectful.
That’s because he’s a good person, but also because he understands what being “presidential” means. Christie doesn’t get that; never will.
He called the guy an “idiot”????
What is this; 5 th grade?
My O My CNBC comentators head are exploding they can’t fathorm the idea inspite of daily negative info they throw about the President and the Economy but it still keeps improving and it is annoying the hell out of them. Mitt Romney fights ‘loser’ label
By JOHN F. HARRIS and JONATHAN MARTIN | 3/9/12 4:57 AM EST Updated: 3/9/12 1:03 PM EST
Many Republican political professionals are worried that Mitt Romney’s public image is now defined by a word never associated with winning presidential campaigns — weakness — and are urging him to take dramatic steps to recast his reputation between now and the fall.
The advice, echoed in interviews with numerous influential GOP figures, comes as Romney finds himself tormented by a contradiction: With each passing day of the primary season, he is coming closer and closer to being presidential nominee — and seemingly further and further away from being president.
Romney has the math of a winner, steadily building his lead in delegates against two main rivals, Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich, who in the view of most GOP campaign veterans have no plausible path to the nomination.
Increasingly, however, he is in a variety of ways tangible (polls) and intangible (public hand-wringing among top Republicans) projecting the aura of a loser — someone who over months of campaigning is seen as less commanding in his leadership style, and less plausible as a future occupant of the White House, than he was when he started.

The Vagina Demagogues

Excellent work, wingnuts:
The fragile gains Republicans had been making among female voters have been erased by what in recent weeks has become a national shouting match over reproductive issues, potentially handing President Obama and the Democrats an enormous advantage this fall.
In the 2010 congressional midterm elections, Republican candidates ran evenly with Democrats among women, a break with long-established trends. That was a major reason the GOP regained control of the House.
Now, female voters appear to be swinging back to Democrats.
When the Wall Street Journal/NBC News survey asked last summer which party should control Congress, a slim 46-42 percent plurality of women said it should be the Democrats.
But in a survey released Monday, compiling polling since the beginning of the year, that figure had widened considerably to a 15-point advantage for the Democrats, according to polling by the team of Democratic pollster Peter Hart and Republican Bill McInturff. Fifty-one percent favored Democratic control; only 36 percent wanted to see the Republicans in charge.
Both sides have tried to shape the narrative in this battle for and about women. But many Republicans are beginning to wish they had never waded into what has become a heated conversation over contraception, who should have it and what it says about people who use it.
The best part is, as we have seen with their continued assault on Latinos and the black community, is that the Republicans will not learn:
At this point, all I have to say is Onward, Christian Soldiers. Keep up the fight. Leave no contraceptive alone.

Breitbart.com on the theories of Derrick Bell:
Bell was one of the chief proponents of Critical Race Theory, a radical doctrine that holds that American legal institutions–including our civil rights laws–perpetuate white supremacy. Bell’s ideas were not only radical, but bizarre.
This is only “bizarre” and “radical” to people who are willfully blind to American history. I don’t agree with it, and it’s far too sweeping for what I would argue. But white supremacy is actually in the Constitution, the whole Constitution, not the abbreviated one the Republican party read after taking the House in 2010. The laws of this country, until, the 1960s actively promoted white supremacy.
Moreover, I suspect that a critical race theorist would argue that the criminal justice laws in the country — post-1960 — have themselves promoted white supremacy. I would not, mostly because I think their implications are much broader. But the point I’m driving at is that making such an argument is not hair tonic.
“Radical and bizarre” is a political movement which can’t face up to evolution; is campaigning for president while standing in front of a flag of treason; is “Kenyan anti-colonial behavior” and “a secular atheist country, potentially one dominated by radical Islamists,” Asserting that white supremacy haunts our legal institutions is mainstream for anyone with a serious knowledge of our history.
This is not 2008. Anyone who believes this sort of crap will NEVER vote for PBO and never was going to vote for PBO. This is a total waste of hot air.
In a world that I would have considered normal, this President would be in the high 70′s and 80′s in approval. But the notion that there are great numbers of people who would now start believing this stuff, is utter nonsense. This country knows this President now.
David Bender was filling in for Stephanie Miller a few weeks ago and made what I thought was an important observation. 40+% of Americans are hopeless. Don’t concern yourself, don’t even try. The key is to get the other 60% to the polls. That has always been true but it has never been as critical as it is now.
57 totally true. We lose the 40% due to stupidity and ideological backwardness. The part we need to do is to get the 60% to the polls but to also be sure their vote counts. We need to help against the voter suppression attempt. Maybe by being sure the 60% have the proper ID way in advance as justice takes so long to prevail it may be too late if we rely on lawsuits and the court system. Besides how can we rely on the Supreme Court that gave us Citizens United. Between this money ruling and the suppression we could lose even to unquestionably unsuited candidates the majority does not want. WE need to figure out how to counter the suppression of our rights so PBO can have a second term to protect what he started as well as get him a more friendly Congress to pass some of his ideas into law.
False Equivalence Comes Home to Roost
By James Fallows
Mar 8 2012, 7:59 PM ET
I awoke this morning (Friday a.m., on the other side of the Pacific) to find a slew of emails asking whether I had slacked off in proselytizing about my anti-”false equivalence” campaign to other members of the Atlantic’s staff. And apparently I have!
For those joining us late: in the five-plus years since they lost control of the Senate, Sen. Mitch McConnell and his Republican minority have dramatically ramped up the modern trend of subjecting almost everything the Senate does to the threat of a filibuster. Since it takes 60 votes to break a filibuster, versus only 51 to approve a bill or a nomination in the usual way; since the Democrats enjoyed a 60-vote coalition for only a few months in late 2009 and early 2010*; and since in modern practice the mere threat of a filibuster, rather than the full-blown Mr. Smith Goes to Washington-style speechathon, suffices to prevent a vote, through most of the Obama era the Republicans have been able to block unprecedented numbers of nominations and bills.
The “false equivalence” problem, as applied to the filibuster, is the media’s acquiescence in and routinization of the process. This happens when news accounts say that it takes 60 votes to “pass” or “approve” or “enact” a bill, rather than that we’re talking about the once- exceptional tool of the filibuster being applied day in and day out. After a while, people forget that it’s not so. The Washington Post has done this; so, occasionally, have NPR and the New York Times.
While Nikki Haley’s LT.Governor resigns in disgrace today….she is in Florida…partying it up at the Club for Growth Winter Conference.
Other attendees are :
Gov. Nikki Haley
Senator Pat Toomey
Senator Marco Rubio
Majority Leader Eric Cantor
Congressmen Jeff Flake, Jim Jordan,
Paul Broun, Tom Price and David Schweikert
Does anyone else think its weird that everyweek the Repubs are having some kind of “get together”. They are either at some PAC thingy or some Club thingy but they are always converging together to hear themselves talk.
Dems are doers and thinkers and Repubs are talkers. I now get why the media fills the airwaves up with these simpletons every Sunday morning, they are guaranteed a soundbite. Talk-Talk-Talk-Talk-Talk that’s all they are good for!
O Ms Chips, Ms Chips, wherefore art thou Ms Chips, my love? Me, I’m here dying to see the video of my President I missed because for some reason the live feed wouldn’t work for me today of all days that I was home and had all the time and leisure to watch it. (
Not trying to rush you back or anything though, just really miss you )
Here is my wish for the day: I want to win the lottery and open a superPac for Obama.
Fund literacy and arts programs.
Fund some courses in civics and democracy because this country sorely needs them.
And I want to quit my job and get the hell away from this batshit crazy boss I work for before he kills me off.
Just had to vent. Thanks for listening.
Hang in there 57…It’s Friday…and Friday is good !
And wine is waiting at home. Lots and lots of wine. And three sweet, wonderful dogs to cuddle with. Okay, the hubby, too……
Hahaha. Hang in there 57. It’s Friday and Friday’s ALWAYS good.
Hello 57andfemale, all the reasons you mentioned for winning the lottery, me and you both. We are about the same age…I hope you win too!
P.S. I hope you are buying a ticket for the Mega or Powerball. Mega is over #100 million.
Mitt Romney Praises Chinese Regulators
At a town hall in Jackson, Miss., on Friday morning, Mitt Romney offered his usual full-throated defense of free enterprise and small government. He criticized the large number of employees and small workload in the Navy purchasing department, said health care needed to operate more like a private market, and told the audience, “I want freedom to reign forever in this country.”
But in an answer warning against the dangers of over-regulation, Romney chose a curious example to tout free enterprise: China.
I got the chance after I lost to John McCain last time, to go over to — that was the good part of losing — I got to go to the Olympic Games in China. It’s pretty impressive over there how quickly they can build things, how productive they are as a society. You should see their airport compared to our airports, their highways, their train systems. They’re moving quickly in part because the regulators see their job as encouraging private people. It’s amazing. The head of Coca-Cola said the business environment is friendlier in China than in America. And that’s because of the regulators. That’s because of government.
They’re also moving quickly, of course, because China’s communist government can seize property by fiat and marshal state-owned industries to build large projects. While much of China’s economy is capitalist, Romney’s praise of infrastructure projects like roads and airports seemed to be an odd defense of centrally-directed economics.
His comments also contrasted sharply with his typically harsh rhetoric on China, which he routinely refers to as a “currency manipulator” and threatens with higher tariffs.
This is the entire article…..at Huffpo…….Flip….Flop
This IS an SNL skit, isn’t it? He didn’t really say all these things?
Do you not have to pass any courses in school when your name is Romney? WE built bridges and airports and an entire highway system AND a robust middle class by progressive taxation, and sense of civic duty from our elected officials, and good old American hard work.
He’s a monster. Truly. He is.
He is just not very bright…….He really is NOT a business man….
It seems to me…that he was nothing more than a lobbyist or fundraiser…..I think his job at Bain was really getting OTHER PEOPLE to invest in buy outs or take overs….I doubt he EVER really managed a company.
He just went around and begged for money.
It sounds like a SNL skit, for God’s sake:
How odd: the link didn’t show up and I know I pasted it:
In honor of our President being in Va today (my neighboring state) and the Va. Gov being in attendance for the event I thought I would pull out this masterpiece from a couple of weeks ago where Gov. O’Malley gave Gov McDonnell the smackdown right to his face.
It was a thing of beauty!
The video is midway down the page on the left.
They are both on Meet the Press this week…

He always sounds so unhappy….maybe he should ask for a new assignment.
Naw. He just needs a bigger chair in the press room.
New post everyone:
Mitt Romney issued the following statement on the February jobs report, showing the economy added 227,000 jobs:
How many months ago was it, 37 months ago, [President Obama] told us that if he could borrow $787 billion, almost a trillion dollars, he would keep unemployment below 8 percent. It has not been below 8 percent since. This president has not succeeded, this president has failed – and that’s the reason we’re going to get rid of him in 2012.
More lies..from Romney……
