OH MY PRECIOUS…THAT’S OUR ‘AMERICA’ RIGHT THERE…THIS IS WHAT WE ARE FIGHTING FOR…AM OFF TO CHURCH THIS BLESSED SABBATH MORNIN’…PLEASE PRAY FOR OUR PRESIDENT…PRAY FOR HIS STRENGTH AS HE FACES THE CHALLENGES FROM THE HYPOCRITICAL OPPOSITION IN THIS COUNTRY!
Arkansas Speaker-Elect Darrin Williams breaks barriers
By a 54-46 vote, state Rep. Darrin Williams will become the first African American Speaker of the Arkansas House of Representatives in 2013.
The historical symbolism of Rep. Williams’ victory cannot be overstated, though Williams himself has been quick to downplay the impact of race on his election as Speaker:
The state has never had a black Speaker of the House or statewide elected official. Moreover, Williams attended Little Rock Central High School, which was forcibly integrated in 1957 when President Dwight Eisenhower deployed federal troops to protect nine black students.
The candidates, however, downplayed the historical significance of Friday’s contest. (…)
“I think it’s time we get beyond a lot of firsts,” he said, “first of color, first female _ that does not at all weigh in my decision to run, and I hope it doesn’t weigh in the decision of any of my colleagues who are supporting me.”
“The time has come,” the Walrus said,”To talk of many things:
Of shoes–and ships–and sealing-wax–Of cabbages–and kings–
And why the sea is boiling hot–And whether pigs have wings.”
They flyin’ y’all. They flyin’.
I am watching “Too Cute” and “Must Love Cats” on the animal planet. I have a permanate smile on my face, kittahs are sooooooo cute ( all babys are too cute – animal and human)
read the article it’s amazing to me how the Republicans eat their young. According to this, now “advisors” are branding her as a ‘diva’ and a ‘whack job’.
Sounds like the McCain staff was really deluded. Did they really think she won that debate? Maybe with the rabid, ignorant base that wouldn’t know the arctic from the antarctic, but amongst thinking people – as soon as she said she wasn’t going to answer a single question, and then started winking into the camera – she was done.
Thanks for those who are watching and commenting – that’s as close as I want to get to actually watching that movie.
I remember in the debate when Palin told the moderator that she would choose to answer the questions differently than they intended because she wanted to or some such gobbly gook. When she said that she lost the debate in my own opinion.
Didn’t you just love how the only good thing they called her was “a great actress”? Who the hell thought this was a sympathetic portrait ? Because she loved her family?
Hello my fello libra….I know what you mean, GC has to bring back some bad memories. When Mommie Dearest becomes a “feel good” movie compared to GC, you know we were exposed to a sh#t storm that we were saved from.
Thanks Chipsticks for that video. I am so excited about the Grand Opening of the Los Angeles OFA Headquarters next Thursday 3/15/2012, that it’ll be like Christmas come early. I hope I get to meet LL, & Tally and HZ and other Southern Calif TODers!!!
I’ve been out of contact today. Puppy is at boarding while we shovel pebbles so that the little schmuck doesn’t eat them any more. He’s cost us two trips to the vet and $600 in bills. Thank goodness for CareCredit.
Where’s the new LA hq? I’ll try to make it, but I get off at 6 from work, so it might be difficult. If we all go we should wear carnations!
I’ve been following everyone’s posts about “Game Change”. Now I’m going to have to get it on DVD when it comes out — sounds like a hoot, and another nail in the GOP’s coffin.
Now she’s going rogue where she wants to make her own scheduled stops on her “Vice Presidential campaign”—–they remind her that no one will be around to greet her at 3:00a.m. when she would arrive at desired destination. Now reports on the $300,000 spent on Palin’s clothes. Now they’re telling her to stop saying she has been cleared of all wrong doing in Troopergate because she hasn’t. And saying First Dude was never a member of Alaskan Independence Party because he was indeed a member, some secessionist sect. Schmidt tells her she has to stop saying things to the press is blatantly untrue. Now she’s telling Schmidt that all the people are coming to see her, not John McCain and she’s going to do what she wants.
Tina is baadass…I remember seeing her back in the 70′s where she danced across the stage on one leg. I live in Los Angeles and there was a black newspaper that focused on black entertainers, they had a picture of a womans legs, WE ALL KNEW they belonged to Tina Turner, she has the most beautiful and most insured legs in the world, she had them insured by Lloyds of London. Her legs are now only second to the FLOTUS.
Now Palin is beginning the real hatefest against Obama, palling around with terrorists, saying he doesn’t see America like the rest of us, Bill Ayers stupid accusations, inciting crowds to yell, “Kill him!” Haven’t shown any race baiting but that was a huge part of it too. I’ll never forget all the racists standing in line with their stuffed monkeys and ugly racist signs. Showed McCain’s one honorable moment when he told the one dumbhead lady she was wrong when she was saying Obama was some Muslim extremist etc.
Now they’re getting the bad news (for them, glorious for everyone else) on election night. Lost Pa. Lost Oh. Nicole Wallace said she couldn’t bring herself to vote for their ticket.
They used actual video. Showed a snippet of his speech in Berlin and the huge crowd, a snippet and big wildly cheering crowd shot from Dem convention. May have been a couple others.
Thanks. I don’t have HBO and probably would not have watched it if I had. I despise that woman; but, I must say I did enjoy the play-by-play. Thanks to everyone who had the stomach to watch.
I am so glad I don’t have to watch Game Change. After reading here and twitter it’s about all I can handle. Living thru that horried time was enough. Watching again is way to painful.
They had a very dysfunctional campaign.
They had not a clue, and they tried all the curvballs and knuckleballs they could muster.
Amazing, how we only won by 7. That is why this election coming up will be closer, republicans already have 45% of the vote no matter what!
We can’t forget about those states with the Voter ID, we have to remind people to get their Voter ID. We can’t let the Republicans win by stealing this election.
If the GOP have 45% locked in no matter what, then 7% is actually quite good, given that it was an historic vote and people didn’t know what kind of President he would make. There was a lot of unwarranted fear. Now, people have nearly four years of evidence of what kind of man this President is, and should be able to get 55% of the vote unless the country really is just half-filled with a bunch of ignorant racists who care little for their own futures.
Add the voter suppression, the far Left that will not vote for PBO, the huge amounts of money and ads that will lie and distort the truth will make winning much harder even though PBO deserves to win more than anyone in recent history.
You speak TRUTH, Jovie! We cannot take for granted this election. Besides starting with “45%of the vote,” they will also have tons of money as a result of the Supreme Court’s “Citizens United” ruling. In this election the GOP’s Superpacs will probably raise and four times more money than they did in 2008. The only way to counter GOP money is for millions of us to contribute $5, $10, $25 or $50 to the OFA. Just imagine, if a million of us PBO supporters contributed $20 dollars a month to his campaign it would guarantee him $20 million dollars a month. None of which would come from special interests.
Yes, that is why I am not watching, but am here to get other’s reactions. I appreciate any and all of you who are watching. I have lived this for over 3 years. I just pray with all my heart that this movie makes a difference in how the press – the media now treats this person who has made hate an integral part of our politics.
Okay. Thank you for the play by play on this movie everyone. I have laughed so hard at your wonderful comments and thoughts. There is no way this movie could have been as good as the descriptions all of you gave. What an entertaining night!
Not only does it show what an insane train wreck Palin is, but it shows just how bad Bush fucked up the country – you know, what so many people have complete amnesia over?
And how Repubs have total disdain for American women. Which they have put on steroids in 2012. But we have to work extra hard now. We can’t let them come close to winning.
Now Palin telling them to load her speech in the teleprompter, she’s giving a concession speech. Schmidt yells at her, “You’re Not F-ing Speaking!” He tells her it’s not about her. He’s furious at her by the end, has lost all patience with her ego and narcissism. And then—–Palin makes one last plea to McCain to give her speech, she won’t let go. Didn’t work though. She is a pathetic creature.
So Nicole Wallace couldn’t bring herself to vote for Palin but she and the team were ok unleashing this race baiting hateful monster on us. There’s a special place in hell for McCain and his team.
When Nicole Wallace announced on one of these shows on Friday or Thursday this week that she couldn’t bring herself to vote for her own ticket, she looked proud of herself. She should be ashamed – as should they all.
I am sorry, but I just don’t believe her. To me, Nicole Wallace looked, and sounded, like a slick person who is trying to make sure that she doesn’t ruin her political reputation as political strategist. I doubt she would be saying this if John McCain had won the presidency.
Folks, Steve Schmidt said Game Change was 100% real. Pause…think about it…..that’s the sound of your brain exploding. I’m glad this movie was released. It showed what a racist, hateful monster Palin was and is. If this movie isn’t an impetus to get people to run to the polls and vote #Obama2012, I don’t know what will. McCain should be smacked hard for the horror he unleashed on this nation.
It’s unbelievable that he was re-elected to his Senate seat. He jeopardized this Nation with that pick of SP and he just went right back to doing what he had been doing before running for President as if nothing even happened. SMH!
No wonder he said in several interviews he had no plans to watch that movie. What an idiot. He’ll never live that decision down and now he has to re-live it all over again. Could not have happened to a nicer guy.
donna dem, we’re talking Arizona here…why wouldn’t McInsane be re-elected? They (the GOP) have done over the deep end (sorry desertflower and other obamabot arizonians if I offend) and it is a Red State.
I’m about an hour behind the live east coast broadcast – but that scene where Nicole is trying to help her on the economic collapse, and Sarah won’t pay attention to her because she’s too busy TEXTING, then digging through her GIANT Louis Vutton bag……..
The bigger question is this: Once they KNEW what a train wreck Sarah was, why on earth didn’t they admit their mistake and FIRE HER and ask someone else???
We all know the answer – because the GOP have embraced sheer idiocy, irrational, and insane – exactly the opposite of Barack OBama – Intellegent and Calm.
But I love that they keep going down that road.
Has anyone noticed the big story the media ISN’T talking about on all these current primaries? It doesn’t matter right now who is winning them – because NO ONE IS VOTING. The turn out numbers are historically LOW.
Anyway – everyone who has HBO, MUST WATCH GAME CHANGE – it will make you SMILE.
Then, she would have become the Republican version of Sen. Tom Eagleton, the guy Senator George McGovern chose for his first VP nominee before Nixon’s people ran how he was treated with electroshock therapy. He was replaced with Sargent Shriver.
Not only are they NOT talking about the big story of these primaries, but Jake Tapper goes on national network and LIES about it saying “Republicans are enthusiastic about voting this November, while Democrats are deflated”. Gosh, I just can’t get over that lying jerk, what a tool!
I am going to watch it again and again I hope HBO keeps it on until November. Palin is a dizzy broad in this movie; dunce, unwilling to learn, clueless and mentally unstable. She wrote on flashcards and got confused when they were’nt in order. Why didn’t they do a better job of screening her? Had to get a woman to counteract the Black Greek God (lol). Yes, she called the President that in a sarcasic manner.
That “hatred” that exists to this day by the right wing extremist of the Republican Party was fueled by Sarah Palin of Alaska in 2008. She sold that hatred to the crazies of that party. John McCain let that genie out of the bottle and it can never be reversed.
I thought this was was actually a very good Movie.
Steve Schmidt – Shame on You!
Nicole Wallace – Shame on You!
John McCain – Shame on You!
I could have sworn that this young man has been singing the praises of Buddy Roemer on twitter. If he’s thanking Jesus for (President) Barack Obama, then this movie must have reminded people just how dire the situation was when President Obama signed up to take charge of the Titanic.
In many ways this movie can also serve as a campaign video for PBO and against the Repub Party. Their VP pick will get the vetting of their life this time around. Instead of putting up a nominee they should dissolve that Party and be forced to roam in the wilderness for the next 40 years.
They will. I’ve always said that this hateful intransigence was their last stand. Their death rattle if you will. Hopefully this election is the roundhouse kick to the gut they need to completely loose their minds and break their will. Then I hope they really think about themselves and re-form their party and try to be the party of Lincoln and other decent repug presidents.
RT @LOLGOP: Too bad they left out how they looked at ten plus years of Romney's tax returns and decided they could NEVER pick him.— Jason Febery (@JasonFebery) March 11, 2012
after being subjected to the punishment of reviewing the palin crap, I decided I needed to give myself a treat and I therefore went to YouTube and watched the ABC video of President and Mrs Obama’s Inaguration dance at the neighbohood ball. I can say that I am now a very happy camper at TODville
Sympathy wouldn’t been had if their was no attempt to prep her for the interviews and such. Nicole Wallace attempted to do so and if the movie is to be believed Palin DID NOT even try to prep.
Sympathy was lost when she accepted the invite to be on the ticket. People who don’t know their limitations are bound to fail and guess what Palin obviously thought more of her ability than anyone else seem to.
Sympathy would have been had except I begin to think what would have happened if Obama had lost. Sarah Palin with nuclear codes…think about that.
Personally as a woman myself, I was insulted by how easy it was for Sarah Palin to get away with so much ignorance cause she was “easy on the eyes”. Let’s be kind a clear why they picked her. Wasn’t Kay Bailey Hutchinson a possible contenders since it was becoming obvious that they were gonna pick a woman. They may have actually won with Kay Bailey
It does seem that Kay Bailey Hutchinson was the obvious choice, doesn’t it? I thought the same at the time and just shook my head in disgust as a woman. I don’t agree with her politics, but I do respect her hard work and accomplishments. I have to believe she was sorely disappointed to see the Sarah Palin pick…
I noticed that thru out the 2008 campaign, no Republican women spoke up for the half-term quitter grifter. KBH, Libby Dole, even Condi Rice.
After watching the KBH clip, below it is amazing to me that even with KBH mentioning that she didn’t know much about the half-term quitter grifter, LOOK HOW QUICK SHE WAS TO SAY THAT SHE “HAD A GREAT RECORD” “WAS AN UP AND COMER”!!!
NOTE TO DEMOCRATS!!! SEE?? THIS is how you support your party’s nominee!!
The same could be said about the four contenders currently vying for the GOP nomination. One would think, after seeing the disaster created by Bush & Co, that a supremely unqualified person would hesitate for a minute before seeking the most important and most powerful office in the entire world. One would think that they’d look themselves in the mirror and ask whether they really want to follow in the footsteps of George W Bush, and be known for having brought down the global economy, ignored warnings that would have saved lives, and sent thousands of American soldiers to their unnecessary deaths in an illegal war. It’s the height of arrogance that they continue to pursue the presidency, even knowing how inadequate they are to the job.
Since I couldn’t bring myself to watch it, was there anything surprising in the telling of the end of the movie? Those that previewed it said we’d be surprised, but I found it hard to believe there would be anything surprising — we all know how it ended!
Not really. Just that Nicole Wallace didn’t even vote for her own presidential ticket and that Sarah Palin was told by McCain not to fall in with Limbaugh and Hannity, or else they would tear the party down.
I think the only surprise was Nichole Wallace’s character admitting to Steve Schmidt that she didn’t vote because she couldn’t cast a vote for the nutjob (SP).
Thanks for this video – such an antidote to the nonsense of John McCain and Sarah Palin. You forget sometimes that President Obama was presidential before he was ever President. He’s just simply awesome.
McCain talked about his grandfather dropping dead at the end of the war and his father, in essence, feeling useless after the Navy. McCain says he “can’t quit”. If true, this may explain his willingness to make the hard right turn to get re-elected to his Senate seat. He’s afraid he would end up like his grandfather and father. This is really sad in that he’s saying he has no life outside of politics.
‘This is really sad in that he’s saying he has no life outside of politics.’
This would be the first time he’s truthful since I started paying attention to him, Sabreen. The fact McCain HAS NO LIFE outside of politics is absolutely true IMO. All the evidence points to it. Cast back in your mind to him on stage with his ‘young, lovely, rich’ wife – did you see any life between them? Really? How often do you see them together? Have you seen or heard of any life between him and his son? As far as I heard his son spent some time in the military yet I haven’t seen him anywhere supporting his military hero father. Even his TV pundit daughter didn’t show much life existed between them when he was campaigning. Admittedly there seemed to be a smidgen, and from time to time she does throw in a mention of him that doesn’t seem all cold, but they hardly seem really close. In my prejudiced view she mentions him to make herself more relevant, and to accomplish this she chooses not to disparage him or his choices. Why do you think McCain’s always running to the Middle East when Congress is on a break instead of going home to spend time with family?
Just catching up on the live blogging of “Game Change.” Thanks y’all, for the blow by blow. I don’t have HBO, so I’ll have to see it some other way. All I can say is that I knew from the first time Palin opened her mouth that 1) she was a total and complete fundigelical nutjob; and 2) she would never be elected VP.
McCain has done a lot to tarnish his legacy — most of all, putting the Wasilla Zilla on the ticket.
I’ve NEVER been impressed by Steve Schmidt’s “impartial republican” act — NEVER thought he was brilliant or insightful. Just another joker that keeps failing upward. If what I read is true, he should be too ashamed to show his face, but I’m sure he’ll be right back on MSNBC, where all the cast-off republicans find a home.
And the people of Alaska should be mortified that they ever elected that obviously unqualified, foolish, hate-filled, narcissistic, greedy woman in the first place. Yes, I blame them — also, too!
WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign is beginning an intensified effort this week to build support among women, using the debate over the new health care law to amplify an appeal that already appears to be benefiting from partisan clashes over birth control and abortion.
On Monday, mailings will go out to 1 million women in more than a dozen battleground states in three separate versions for mothers, young women and older women, Democratic Party officials said.
An effort called “Nurses for Obama” will begin Wednesday, with nurses nationwide enlisted to be advocates for the health care law in their communities. And a new website will include links to video testimonials about the health care overhaul signed by Obama in 2010, including from a former critic who subsequently was diagnosed with breast cancer.
My God, what a time, what a time!
Thank you everyone for the play-by-play. I do not have the stomach to watch anything about that Palin woman. I thought that after RL republican women would speak out in support for Ms. Fluke. I guess that was asking too much. But from what I have read tonight, if this movie will not move them to see how evil, controlling and vile their men are and the war against women from their own party is real. Then, I have nothing else to say.
They have no shame. Please let this woman go away and stay. Maybe after this movie the rest of America will wake up and vote this November as if their life depends on it……….really, it does……..Really!
Goodnight everyone. Thank you, Chips.
I need a dose of Let’s Stay Together so I will not have nightmares of that crazy lady….
aloha my tod ohana
my heart is breaking. a dear teacher and friend died last night, as we were preparing for the funeral of a beautiful young mother in our community. i will be absent from here for a while, but know you’re supporting our president, and all will be well. please, if you are so moved, include us in your prayers. mahalo.
Aloha, Susanne! Know that some of us will be thinking of you, your friend’s family and the young mother’s family over the next days, and each time we remember all of you, we will send our prayerful support. Take good care of each other during this rough time. VC
So sorry for your loss; I’m going through it too as my father died last Friday. I am leaving for Canada tomorrow and he will be buried on Wednesday. It will be a rough week. I will be thinking of you and praying at this very sad time.
Haven’t had a chance to catch up with all the recent posts yet. I’m dying to hear the verdict on Game Change. It’s been hard to watch the trailer and her most recent wackadoodle word salad, because that woman repulses me so. Don’t know how y’all sat through two hours of even pretend-Sarah voluntarily.

Anyway, I ran across Frank Scheffer’s latest post — a must read! Here a generous snip…
When the Republican Party is trounced in November 2012 all Americans should send thank you notes to the Vatican. The American bishops are lending their tattered “moral authority” to the Republican Party. With friends like these the Republicans need no enemies.
According to the New York Times:
Pope Benedict XVI waded into the American culture wars on Friday, urging visiting American bishops to beef up their teaching about the evils of premarital sex and cohabitation, and denouncing what he called the “powerful” gay marriage lobby in America. Benedict said there was an urgent need for American Catholics to discover the value of chastity, an essential element of Christian teaching that he said had been subject to unjust “ridicule.” The pope also told the bishops not to back down in the face of “powerful political and cultural currents seeking to alter the legal definition of marriage.”
With the “stand” that the Pope and the American bishops are taking in their thinly veiled anti-President Obama, pro-Republican Party campaign in full swing — and being parroted by Santorum and Gingrich — the Republicans are lurching even farther rightward.
And now a far right “religious liberty” group the Becket Fund led by a conservative William P. Mumma, a Wall Street banker who runs the New York trading desk for Mitsubishi UFJ Securities USA, is working closely with the Roman Catholic bishops to suethe government in order to force women to forgo contraception if they happen to work for Catholic run corporations.
Bluntly put, between this Becket Fund suit, the Pope weighing in and the American bishops anti-Obama activity ramping up to try and defeat him in 2012 the Roman Catholic hierarchic leaders seem anxious to declare holy war on the Democratic Party.
This will backfire, not least because the pope and bishops and a far right Wall Street champion of the 1% activist like Mumma (who hates the President because he wants to regulate Wall Street) don’t even speak for most Roman Catholics let alone most Americans. So the Koch brothers can spend 100 million or a 100 billion for that matter to buy the election for big oil and Wall Street, but they might as well burn their Supreme Court-lubricated Super Pac cash… [more in the article]
This is why we have a separation of church and state. The pope also needs to stay out of the affairs of other nations. He should spend more time repenting for the abuses that they hid and cleaning up his own immoral house.
We refuse to be dragged back to the bad old days.
the bishops can ‘tell’ their parishioners what to do (although my Catholic friends beg to differ) but they CANNOT tell the government what policies to enact. I know we’re very far from taking away tax exempt status, but this line has been crossed egregiously. Cardinal George’s lying letter of several weeks back crossed a legal line. He got away with it, as the Church has for the last generation.
Anyone can follow their conscience and have their children any way they see fit. No one forces anyone to have an abortion (despite the insane rhetoric) and certainly no one is forced to take birth control. That is where the the power of the church stops. there is NO religious freedom if some employer can dictate to me what health care I can receive.
This is far over the line. But in a political climate where a Supreme Court Justice can LIE and say that Bush v. Gore ‘wasn’t even close’ at ’7-2′ (!) we have no place to keep our country from falling into the abyss other than the voting booth. 40% of Americans are hopeless. We have to do whatever we can to get the other 60% to the polls.
The GOP still does not know what it’s unleashed. A lot of very green tea party people got elected to our state legislatures and in a fit of insanity, people in a lot of states elected far, far right Republican governors. We’ve seen months and months of Republican candidates shamefully pandering to this extremist right and now the whole sorry far right agenda is being laid bare. Instead of cleverly disguising their misogyny and racism as Repubs in the past have done, these guys have laid it out for all to see. And what we see is not in any way consistent with the opinions of the vast majority of Americans and most especially not with the majority of women. Having the Republicans expose themselves this way is the best thing that could happen to the US. People have been led astray by the masks and lies the GOP has spread for many decades. And now the lies are being seen for what they are.
“We all agreed that this seemed like a throwback to 40 years ago,” said Ms. Russell, 57, a retired teacher from Iowa City who describes herself as an evangelical Christian and “old school” Republican of the moderate mold.
Until the baby shower, just two weeks ago, she had favored Mitt Romney for president.
Not anymore. She said she might vote for President Obama now. “I didn’t realize I had a strong viewpoint on this until these conversations,” Ms. Russell said. As for the Republican presidential candidates, she added: “If they’re going to decide on women’s reproductive issues, I’m not going to vote for any of them. Women’s reproduction is our own business.”
The fact these women are still saying, they ‘may’ vote for Obama makes me shake my head. I’m sorry, but that’s blind ignorance and partisanship! Given all that has already been revealed about the Republican party and its candidates, and given all that Republicans have done since their 2010 victories, it boggles my mind that sensible Americans anywhere in the country, and certainly not women, would still be hesitant at this point about who best represents their interests. It’s views like this that make me think sometimes ‘let them get what they ask for’, forgetting for a moment that those who didn’t ask for it would also be penalized. She ‘MAY’ vote for Obama? One may stay home? Ignorant, uninformed, unthinking partisan! Selfish and blind too! No insight! There! I feel a little better.
this is great. I read with relief what that one lady said who hadn’t even realized what her position on women’s health was until she started to have the conversation and realized that these yahoo’s that are the Republican party noms are throwbacks to 40 years ago! She said she was for Romney but not anymore – she is considering PBO. And that’s all it takes. Once you get that veil taken off your eyes and really start looking PBO is the clear choice and right choice.
I saw that on the news this morning. It’s not good. It’s not good at all. After the Koran burning, the retaliatory killing of 7 American soldiers, and now this. Things are tense for sure.
I was thinking the same thing, desertflower. I could imagine someone waking President Obama up in the middle of the night and telling him this news, I’m starting to wonder does he ever get to sleep through the night without being roused out of bed with bad news.
No, this is not good. After the Quran burning incident, that still has the people angry, and now this? This soldier had obvious mental combat stress related issues here, and just snapped…as true as that may be, it won’t defuse the new anger that will arise from this horrible incident.My heart goes out to those Afghan people, and to the troops and the soldier that did this.The idiots that have gotten us into a war that has lasted so long and taken an unimaginable toll. It’s easy to start a war, not so easy to get out. Both messes were left to this President to clean up and take care of.FU Bush! FU!
That 3am call has been answered more than once by this President. The weight on his shoulders is immense. One MORE reason to make sure that he is given 4 more years….who knows what wars (Iran, anyone?) will be started if PBO is not elected again. I pray for him, and wish for a clear head and good guidance.Thank goodness that he is the one answering this call.
hf….who knows, but I think that’s a reach. I understand where you’re coming from, but we know nothing about this soldier.Imagine if he has been there multiple times, and just had enough. Gone off the deep end seems to be a more realistic thought about what happened here. I can’t imagine what they all go through. The untold ravages of war that will be felt by these men long after this mess is over.
That’s true df. I agree with it is a reach but it’s a possibility. After the Koran burning the Republicans (including the current candidates) were quick with their talking points about PBO’s apologizing. It’s like they were prepped for this event and came armed with their script. Let’s see how they respond to this issue.
The RW naturally looks for ANYTHING to make this President look bad. The mental collapse of this soldier will just fuel the fire. Funny, they always talk so big on responsibility, yet flee that anytime it ACTUALLY needs to happen.Like I said, they had no problem getting us IN to this mess, but now they want to pretend that anything that happens with regards to the war is all PBO’s fault. They always jump in with both feet, yet never want to be held accountable for their wrongdoings in anything. This is just another example. The list is long.
My two cents is that the politicians are gonna do what they do, but from my experience there are no political partys in combat. When bullets are flying you’ll hunker down with a person you had a fight with the week before. You can rest assured something set the soldier off and we’ll never know ’cause we weren’t there.
we may never know….let me ask you…if this person had become somewhat disturbed …who would have known about it…how could he have gotten off the base undetected ….does this show a lack of discipline among the ranks there…
as you say we may never know….but what are your thoughts…
I can’t begin to tell you what makes a person ‘snap’. There is a point in all of us that I call the ‘fuck it’ point. That means everything that is not helpfull is perceived as a threat. You feel trapped and helpless and all you have is the weapon in your hand. You do stupid things. I’ve seen a person stand up in the middle of artillery explosions shaking his fist and screaming at the top of his ‘fuck you” and not get hit. He was never quite the same after that and neither was I for seeing it…..I do believe there is a God.
If Clear Channel won’t clean up its airways, then surely it’s time for the public to ask the FCC a basic question: Are the stations carrying Limbaugh’s show in fact using their licenses “in the public interest?”
Spectrum is a scarce government resource. Radio broadcasters are obligated to act in the public interest and serve their respective communities of license. In keeping with this obligation, individual radio listeners may complain to the FCC that Limbaugh’s radio station (and those syndicating his show) are not acting in the public interest or serving their respective communities of license by permitting such dehumanizing speech.
The FCC takes such complaints into consideration when stations file for license renewal. For local listeners near a station that carries Limbaugh’s show, there is plenty of evidence to bring to the FCC that their station isn’t carrying out its public interest obligation. You know, Micole Wallace had 2 important jobs. The first was w Vommunications director for GW, where she was in charge of Scott McCleland. That was a FAIL.
Then, she was supposed to shape Sawah, in the 08 Campaign. Another huge Fail.
So, basically, she is a failure at her job of communicating, and yet the MSM asks her questions, as if she is some sort of authority.
It’s crazy, I tell ya, just crazy!!!
I would not pay her 100 bucks to be my spokesperson.
She is Bad. And judging by her record, how is it that she can be on msnbc or abc at a whim, as an expert pundit?
But, Jovie, with the help of the MSM, Wallace is not a failure at excusing her actions by drawing comparisons with Democrats. She does it quite eloquently on the occasions I’ve seen her. She does this often enough she will succeed in poisoning the water some more for democrats and be readily visible for a new republican communicating job as soon as one becomes available. This is one time I will say democrats should study how repubs train communicators like Wallace and Schmidt who easily deflect criticisms of THEIR leaders by quickly turning the attention to their opponents in their answers.
As baby showers go, the party Mary Russell attended to celebrate her niece’s first child was sweet, with about a dozen women offering congratulations over ice cream and cake.
But somewhere between the baby name game and the gifts, what had been light conversation took a sharp turn toward the personal and political — specifically, the battle over access to birth control and other women’s health issues that have sprung to life on the Republican campaign trail in recent weeks.
There are two big reasons for [Obama's] improvement, and these are things we’re seeing most places right now:
-The Democratic base is unifying around him. In October he was at 75/17 with his party’s voters, now it’s 86/10. The more Democratic voters see the Republican candidate field, the more they forgive Obama for not being completely perfect and get behind him.
-Obama’s flipped independents from giving him negative reviews (46/49) to positive ones (54/38).
Seriously, I hope Tapper and his cronies continue chasing their tails in this regard, putting out delusional messages, while the rest of the country gets in the correct mind set for November. If they are busy lying, while sharing their preferred message, then they hopefully won’t have the time to notice what is really happening. So yes, Tapper, it’s sad that Dems enthusiasm is deflated. Keep mourning their misfortune and we’ll get back to you November 7th with an update.
HEADLINE: Santorum Claims Romney Secretly Rigged GOP Primaries In His Favor
// Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum is leveling the bombshell claim that Mitt Romney secretly manipulated the GOP primary process in his favor. Appearing on NBC’s Meet The Press on Sunday morning, Santorum claims that “Governor Romney’s been doing this for four years and he worked very hard to make sure that states moved up that were very advantageous to him.” Santorum goes on to note that he may make an appeal to Republican “superdelegates” to sway the nomination back towards him. Santorum points out that while the Massachusetts millionaire has “outspent [him] about 10 to one,” Romney “can’t close the deal.” //
SALT LAKE CITY — Mormon leaders have put up a virtual firewall in their massive genealogical database to block out anyone who attempts to access the names of hundreds of thousands of Holocaust victims the church has agreed not to posthumously baptize.
/snip/
But critics say it merely serves to block anyone from monitoring whether the posthumous baptisms continue.
“By not allowing public access to the records, it creates the illusion they have something to hide,” said Jewish genealogist Gary Mokotoff, who was involved in negotiations with the church over ending the practice for the past two decades.
Mormons believe the baptism ritual allows deceased people a way to the afterlife – if they choose to accept it.
But the practice offends members of many other religions, especially Jews, who have expressed outrage at attempts to alter the religion of Holocaust victims because they were killed based on their beliefs.
In the 1990s, after negotiations with Jewish leaders, the church agreed to end to the practice, but revelations by an ex-Mormon researcher have shown it continues.
Sorry, But these people seem to push their religious beliefs on everyone, it would seem.They said they stopped this practice years ago…yet it still continues. They lied? How holy of them.
tougher days are ahead for President Obama and all of us as the reports of the US soldier killing civillians in Afghanistan spreads. what in the world is going on and what are we going to do about it?
That is the question I keep asking. As we engage in talks with the opposition and are nearing de-escalation, is there something going on there that is contributing to these events?
These “outrageous events” are happening too frequently for me. I’m starting to put on my conspiracy hat. It just feels like someone is trying to undermine our military involvement there. Something just doesn’t seem right to me.
That is the same question that keeps popping up in my head. And yes, I may sound paranoid when I talk of sabotage, but the timing of these incidents is raising a few flags for me. I am open to all possibilities, and as others have noted, this may be simply the case of a solider having a mental breakdown, but I put nothing past the desperate GOP (and that include some Libertarian GOP members as well) and the complicit media in this election year.
I notice that the immediate reaction of many of us upon hearing news like this is to say that the troops need to get out ASAP. But a recent poll showed that the majority of Afghans did NOT support the troops leaving. 75% of those Afghans polled felt that their own forces were not yet properly trained and still needed military assistance of US/NATO forces in Afghanistan. In fact, the majority of Afghans pretty much seemed in agreement with the timeline put forth by the Obama administration, i.e., that the Afghan police force will be fully ready by 2014. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/feedarticle/10068675
However, that was before the Koran burning. I would love to see a current post koran burning and this incident.
There is something that doesn’t feel right about this, that’s for sure. Not sure what to make of it and perhaps we’ll never know any of the information in the intelligence reports, but something is afoot. We are headed for a drawdown very soon so none of this seems to fit the bigger picture. The killings took place in Kandahar. The koran burning took place at the Bagram base. Two different regions.
Just for a nice Sunny Sunday Morning laugh….Here is a comment on Paymelin’s Facebook page.
Here’s a classic SP follower……….I
Marissa Mahon
Because they are so jealous from her also they afraid from her rule because she’s not playing or don’t take cratf to anyone and I love that personally she is true leader to stand up for America …it happen she been so victim to all this bully’s ..gladly she never give up
This word salad was written by SP herself. Look at the name, sound it out. Fiction, made up. What a moron. Maroon were good people, hate when moron is changed into maroon. Maroon were fighters, fought off the British by throwing stones at them from the hills in Jamaica. SP is a moron.
Chips! Chips! Where are you? I’ve been clicking back and forth between my two browsers for over an hour now, trying to catch you in the act of posting the new thread. WHERE are you? I can’t keep this up much longer even if only from the point of view that I’m hungry – haven’t made breakfast yet!
Ha! Go eat your breakfast VC. Chips told us that sometimes she works on the weekends and it can be her busy time. I think you might want to get some nourishment for the long day ahead
Seems I have to take your advice, DD4O, because my stomach is rumbling fiercely, and hunger does trigger a migraine in me. I just know Chips is going to sneak in when I’m gone (Grrr!) but I can’t hold out much longer.
Be careful with the moving a4A. Make sure you don’t strain anything.
I hope her spirits are not down because of the Afghanistan killing incident – it’s just so depressing what happened. I know she has been very concerned about the US occupation in Afghanistan. I hope she’s just sleeping in on a Sunday like you said.
I have to say it really bums me out to see OFA featuring The Quitter in any of our ads. The majority of the country despises her – she’s a complete idiot and not worth anybody’s time. I’m not happy about that ad.
Here’s the thing that has occurred to me since watching the movie last night: showing Palin shines a big, bright light on Repubican decision-making, judgment and the sham of ‘country first’ when it was always about ‘winning first’ and nothing else. I would have agreed with you 24 hours ago, but now I think it’s a potent message for us to use.
Thanks, I guess I’ll have to see the film when it comes to Netflix. She’s like a cockroach the way she keeps going even though people are thoroughly sick of her.
meta, I understand where you are coming from but this election campaign will be very different from 2008 (thanks to Citizen United). This WH will not be able to leave any attack unchallenged. She attacked him so our side uses it as an opportunity to raise funds for the campaign. As outrageous as the birthers are (and yes the majority of the country think their assertions are ridiculous) the Obama Campaign uses those opportunities to sell that birth certificate cup. SP is no different.
I will never forget Plouffe talking about the campaign after we won and him saying that SP was the biggest driver of campaign donations because we all realized how outrageous she is. We may think that she is not worth the time but our ridiculous media will run with every controversial comment she makes and if we don’t push back by showing how ridiculous she is it will get legs and take off. They saw this happen with the Health Care fight and I get the impression that they refuse to allow her to have the upper hand. I think they have calculated that it is better to ridicule her than to just let her words run rampant throughout the media.
I hear what you’re saying. I confess my own personal temperament is getting in the way of my understanding. I so completely despise her arrogance, her lack of education, her misguided and ill-informed opinions, her race-baiting dog whistles that could wake the dead. I detest her with the bright hot light of a billion suns +1. So it pains me to see her face and hear her insanity and then the OFA logo. ACK. But I hear you loud and clear, Donna.
Yup…I was one of those 130k donors. Went to bed that night and could not sleep a wink because palin had made me
So mad. Got out of bed about 1am turned on the computer and donated to our community organizer. Slept like a baby
after that.
Howard Kurtz is all about the false equivalency nonsense. He was one of those who felt a thrill up his legs for Palin. He wants people to think that Game Change was a propaganda movie. Newsflash Howie it just portrayed Palin exactly as she is. A hateful race baiting monster.
I recorded and watched Game Change late last night, and the movie depicted all that I remember the MSM discussing when all of the events were happening; including Kurtz. I laughed a lot because it seemed so real.
Rush is a political arm of the Republican establishment, he has been given license to say what they themselves cannot say in public, he is no “radio personality” speaking his mind, he is thanked and being highly paid for what he does, stir up the crazies, get them in the voting booths and have them thinking a certain way. Rush is the ultimate propaganda conveyer for the RNC. Rush is a power borker in the Republican Party, and our wise President knows this. He is on the air in our Armed Force Radio complimenting Bush at the time, now he is being used to cause dissent in the ranks with his bile, I hope we get enough signatures on the petitions to get him off the air.
That’s correct. And when people try to use the false equivalence of Bill Maher or Keith Olbermann, neither of whom are considered de facto leaders of the Democratic party or DNC, it’s absurd.
No, when the mob gathered to watch and jeer while a bully beat up the weak and helpless, it was the President of the United States who stepped forward.
Stonekettle Station
Thanks Df for the link. Clear concise commentary. Imagine that folks actually said that the president’s call was a political calculation. How dumb can some people get? Never mind, the answer stretches into infinity.
This tragedy in afghanisthan is yet another proof that american should get the fuck outta there. The US army owns this fuck-up and let’s hope the trial of all those involved including the chain of command is transparent and just.
The US has plans to withdraw from Afghanistan and I doubt that these incidents will cause a dramatic change from the timeline – even though my tinfoil guess is that the latest string of incidents from the urinating on corpses, then the Koran burning to the current shooting is to generate angst and discord in Obama’s base and provide yet another opening for the GOP to attack the President.
As someone on Twitter posted:
US soldier kills 16 civilians and the only thing I see are the "get out of Afghanistan NOW", "how does this affect Obama" memes. Good grief.— (@Pnthrgrlgail) March 11, 2012
I replied to her that this is in fact the intended effect.
This is minimally different from the earlier discussions we’ve had concerning the Catholic church and contraception coverage issue. The only difference is that real lives are being destroyed for petty reasons. All of these incidents are being committed by US solidiers yet they aren’t the only ones deployed. I don’t get it.
“All of these incidents are being committed by US solidiers yet they aren’t the only ones deployed.”
It’s a very good point you raise, hf. It was the same point I raised at the BJ thread on this subject. It’s time high time the entire american military, from PBO downwards, did some serious introspection on this behavior of their personnel.
Furthermore, while the shooting incident could be considered an effect of PTSD – the Koran burning and corpse urination do not strike me as such. It also appears that after the civilians were shot and killed, other US solidiers engaged in further offensives by pouring chemicals on the bodies and burning them. This may not have been simply one soldier going off – it seemed more like a coordinated attack, and the media of course is damn near useless when it comes to accurate reports.
News of the shooting was just so devastating to me. Will humanity ever be able to leave violence for whatever reason and war etc behind? Sigh! Let there be peace, and let it begin with me.
What? That’s not what I posted! At least, that’s not what I intended to post – must have copied url from the wrong browser. Humblest apologies. Taking another shot at it and if it fails will just crawl quietly away.
Oh Lord, now the right one shows up above, so there are now two! Okay, I’m going to give myself a time out until I can get it back together. Doing some much needed housework might ground me again. Sorry for the mix-up…..Have a good afternoon, everyone! a confused mind-deadened VC
Title: The subtle racism of ascribing success to luck
//For a couple of years now the chattering class has been characterizing President Obama as weak. What’s interesting is that now that his political fortunes are improving, there seems to be a meme developing that he’s lucky. //
Yes. I’ve noticed that disturbing trend myself. He’s not lucky…he’s a long goal thinker. The people throwing the “lucky” memo around, have NO IDEA what is required for that type of thought process. They are short term, myopic “thinkers”….no wonder why they’re baffled. The truth of this never even occurred to them, therefore…it must be luck. Idiots.
Good west coast morning Chipsticks and TOD family.

Jesus 'Why do you call me Lord yet don't follow my commands?' Religious Right: 'Shut up. You look middle eastern.' #p2— mm62 (@markm1962) March 11, 2012
Love this Karen Hunter on MSNBC getting in the republican strategist’s butt. He is trying to say PBO can’t over 50 in the polls. She retorted none of the repubs get over 35!!! You know that’s Right.
Poor Alex feels sorry for Palin because she was thrust into a position she was not ready for. Boo hoo hooo . Sarah could have quit.
PBO is over 50% in many polls. more republicans being allowed to lie, lie, and lie some more with no “journalist” saying, “actually that’s not true. here are several recent polls where PBO is well over 50%.” which is a basic fact. thank god we have the internet today to share the truth instead of the constant lies of our billionaire media.
Every weekend I despair of Alex Witt’s brain. Her lack of intelligence is shocking. All she seems good at doing is reading a teleprompter. She sits down there and accepts every Tom, Dick, and Harry lie her GOP guests spoon feed her.
She just compared President Obama’s jobs event – which he does every friday when jobs numbers are released; be they good or bad – to a victory lap. How is that a victory lap??!!!
Karen Hunter was great. She reminds the GOP that this is 2012 and their lies will not go unchecked.
Alex Witt is the one that sit there as Chris Matthews attack the President and then he went after the First Lady, and she sat there like a knot on a log. As for Karen Hunter, I like her, I think maybe she should have gotten the tv show instead of Mrs. M. H. Perry.
That’s true. But normally she posts a quick “rise & shine” or “Chat away” thread indicating such and that she will be back. Anyway, hopefully it’s no cause for alarm.
Just getting going for a Re-elect President Obama Sunday – I donated this morning and this afternoon will attend an OFA meeting at Glendale Community College in California.
Would be like a family reunion….and an awesome connection. Keep trying, GGail. Keep trying! If I see them post, I’ll remind them that you want to try and meet there…I would love to meet my AZ TOD’ers as well, at a OFA here….they mean the world to me.
Hi GGail,
I rsvp’d for the OFA LA office opening and will be there as well; coming from Downtown so I hope the LA traffic gods are in good spirits on Thursday. I’ll be wearing my “it’s President THAT ONE to you!” button (watching Caribou Barbie and the Game Change last night, got me so riled up, I had to get that button back out), and PURPLE SHOES of course!
I did get the email and I saw your post about it too. I have a dentist appointment on the westside so I will be there. I will be wearing my Obamabot tee, necklace, and earrings. I hope to see many SoCal TOD’ers there.
Whooo Hoooooo!
Look forward to seeing you there JoJo
With many probably wearing Obamabot gear, maybe we should do like LL suggests and wear a carnation or something – I’m open to any and all suggestions.
Wearing a green carnation maybe? It’s close to St. Patricks day so there should be an abundance of green carnations and green for President’s O’bama rendition of Al Greens song.
thanks for highlighting that great post. i have been noticing that theme too, and mostly in the so called liberal blogs and pundits. In my opinion it is a direct extension of the attacks you would often hear and still hear against affirmative action, and those who the privileged class deemed were inferior. i mean a major theme from the beginning of PBO’s time in office has been the “affirmative action president” which i’ve seen used a lot from the so called “left” too!!
even though i disagreed a lot with his Waiting for Superman movie about education, i was so happy to see what davis guggenheim said on that CNN show hosted by that racist englishman the other day. gugenheim said he couldn’t really find any fault in PBO, and that’s exactly how i feel too. it’s not about some notion of him being “perfect.” what an impossible standard to hold anyone to, let a lone the president!!! i don’t remember anyone asking if george w. bush was perfect. it’s about PBO, given that incredible deck stacked against him, doing the job as a whole better than anyone else could possibly do. PBO probably in hindsight wishes he could’ve done some things differently, but no one, and i mean no one overall could do as well as he has done and will continue to do the next 5 years if we all get out there and work for his reelection!!!
I always loved this quote from “Friday Night Lights” (movie) that the coach told his team. It is what being perfect means to him.
Coach Gary Gaines: Being perfect is not about that scoreboard out there. It’s not about winning. It’s about you and your relationship with yourself, your family and your friends. Being perfect is about being able to look your friends in the eye and know that you didnt let them down because you told them the truth. And that truth is you did everything you could. There wasnt one more thing you could’ve done. Can you live in that moment as best you can, with clear eyes, and love in your heart, with joy in your heart? If you can do that gentleman – you’re perfect!
I think that this President is the perfect embodiment of this very thought. This truly IS what being perfect, in human terms, means.
Good morning everyone! It is really spring here in MT. The birds are back and it’s in the high 40′s, snow is melting. Much to early but I am ready for the sun.
Thanks for everyone for the reports on Game Change. I can’t watch any of that. It bad enough living thru it. Now living thru this year is very scary too. We all must do all we can for a democratic congress for our great President who will be reelected. Keep the information coming.
Once again I’m glad it’s Obama as President. He’s shown that he’s a man of compassion and dignity and integrity. The Afghans know that this is just a horrible murder, not any sort of policy designed to make their lives more miserable. I know he’ll do the right thing for everyone concerned and tell us the truth.
My condolences go out, through whatever invisible wings of prayer they may be, to that Afghan farmer and his family, and eternal peace to those who were murdered.
As for Chipsticks not posting another thread, I thought that maybe she was outside enjoying the beautiful March weather (It’s 65 where I live as I’m typing this, and sunny!)
By JOHN BRESNAHAN | 3/11/12 9:15 AM EDT
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said Sunday he understands the Obama campaign’s decision not to transfer millions of dollars in financial aid sought by the House and Senate Democratic campaign committees, and he believes the White House will do whatever it can to support candidates up and down the ticket.
Reid was responding to a POLITICO reports that President Barack Obama’s key political advisers, David Plouffe and Jim Messina, recently met with him and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to discuss the request and the president’s decision to say no, at least for now.
“There are many ways they are helping us,” Reid said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “I didn’t expect them to bring their checkbook.”
But the issue of finances – and how to counter the rise of super PACs, especially those allied with the GOP – are a major issue for Reid and Senate Democrats. The recent retirement announcement by Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe of Maine has thrown a GOP-controlled seat into play and given Reid and other top Democrats hope that they can hold onto the Senate after being all but written off earlier in the cycle.

Halleluiah!!
“The time has come,” the Walrus said,”To talk of many things:
Of shoes–and ships–and sealing-wax–Of cabbages–and kings–
And why the sea is boiling hot–And whether pigs have wings.”
They flyin’ y’all. They flyin’.
I don’t have a TV and I have not regretted that decision until now!
You’re missing a ggod one. This is waayyy better than the hype.
HAAAA. “She didn’t know why North and South Korea were different countires.”
Anyone else watching this?
I LOVE this movie!
Well. Go ahead advisors. be my guest.
uh oh snl’s on
now “advisors” are branding her as a ‘diva’ and a ‘whack job’.
This seems to be from 2008, a4A. Look at the date under the posted video segment.
oh – doh! thx vc
No prob. I slip too.
The beauty in this for me is that we really are a research TEAM – got each other’s back.
McCain staff cheering Palin debate performance—-then get the first poll—-CBS had Biden winning 46% to 21%. Schmidt says “F CBS”.
Isn’t that what Mitt Romney has tried to pull in his recent debates?! Didn’t work for her and it isn’t working for him either.
Grandmama, Palin lost the debate when she walk on the stage.
Didn’t you just love how the only good thing they called her was “a great actress”? Who the hell thought this was a sympathetic portrait ? Because she loved her family?
Showing Pat Buchanan raving about Palin post debate, calling her the next Ronald Reagan etc.
No he didn’t….did he really call her the next RR? Holly crap these people are insane.
The Movie Game Changer is too painful to watch.. I changed my television back to “Mommie Dearest” LOL
Hey GGail and fellow TODers!
Damn, Palin did a Tina Turner to Steve Schmidt.
You Go Girl!
Gotta go!
Have a great evening everyone
Now Palin is beginning the real hatefest against Obama, palling around with terrorists, saying he doesn’t see America like the rest of us, Bill Ayers stupid accusations, inciting crowds to yell, “Kill him!” Haven’t shown any race baiting but that was a huge part of it too. I’ll never forget all the racists standing in line with their stuffed monkeys and ugly racist signs. Showed McCain’s one honorable moment when he told the one dumbhead lady she was wrong when she was saying Obama was some Muslim extremist etc.
One minor correction: that old lady didn’t even specify Muslim “extremist”. She just thinks all Muslims are bad. That’s bigotry.
If this is the McCain talk where he corrected an old lady. She thought Senater Obama was an Arab.
We need to brace ourselves for more of that crap by September through the election.
Now they’re getting the bad news (for them, glorious for everyone else) on election night. Lost Pa. Lost Oh. Nicole Wallace said she couldn’t bring herself to vote for their ticket.
“Nicole Wallace said she couldn’t bring herself to vote for their ticket.” Wow, that’s probably a first?
Is there an actor portraying PBO or are they using actual video with the real PBO from 2008?
They used actual video. Showed a snippet of his speech in Berlin and the huge crowd, a snippet and big wildly cheering crowd shot from Dem convention. May have been a couple others.
Thanks. I don’t have HBO and probably would not have watched it if I had. I despise that woman; but, I must say I did enjoy the play-by-play. Thanks to everyone who had the stomach to watch.
L3 it was actually everything we already knew about SP but seeing some of the behind the scene moments was actually quite intriguing.
She was and still is a nut. We can thank God everyday for President Obama and VP Joe.
This movie was depressing! It was like watching Old Yeller! Lol!
Old Yeller. It was that bad or sad.
Schmidt tells McCain he’s sorry he suggested her. McCain says, “F it”.
When are they both going to apologize to the American people?
I am so glad I don’t have to watch Game Change. After reading here and twitter it’s about all I can handle. Living thru that horried time was enough. Watching again is way to painful.
They had a very dysfunctional campaign.
They had not a clue, and they tried all the curvballs and knuckleballs they could muster.
Amazing, how we only won by 7. That is why this election coming up will be closer, republicans already have 45% of the vote no matter what!
So terrifyingly true.
That 45% is not necessarily true. Republicans have pissed off a lot of women. So I wouldn’t give them any specific number at this point.
Randy Rhodes said PBO got 13% of ALL women vote…all women black, white, asian, etc. I bet this number goes way up too.
X2
Me too!
Game Change is AWESOME.
It must have eaten up both Schmidt and McCain when McCain had to go begging for her endorsement back in 2010.
theo67, that’s when I lost what little respect that I still had for McCain.
defytheodds, I did too.
She became the poster child of The Peter Principle when she was elected to Mayor of Wasila.
The way it sounds I’m surprised that Big Mack didn’t “F-Schmidt”
So Nicole Wallace couldn’t bring herself to vote for Palin but she and the team were ok unleashing this race baiting hateful monster on us. There’s a special place in hell for McCain and his team.
Yup.
Indeed.
And squealing from the sidelines, like his judgement is sound.
donna dem, we’re talking Arizona here…why wouldn’t McInsane be re-elected?
This, this!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, yes!!!!!!!!
Bravo!
HA!
Love that HP2!!!
Thanks Tally
This is the best one yet! Thanks for the laugh!
HAHAHA!!! Actually DID LOL!!!
McCain says “Tell her she’s not fucking speaking” when Caribou Barbie wanted to give a VP concession speech. Hahahaha.
And she was insistent that she was going to give that speech even after Steve told her she was not. She is completely full of herself.
Yes We Can! Yes We Will! OBAMA/BIDEN 2012!!!! 4 More Years!!!!
after being subjected to the punishment of reviewing the palin crap, I decided I needed to give myself a treat and I therefore went to YouTube and watched the ABC video of President and Mrs Obama’s Inaguration dance at the neighbohood ball. I can say that I am now a very happy camper at TODville
They are like a refreshing tonic.
The hashtag #gamechange on twitter is all the way live tonight. It is wild on there.
You ain’t lying. Some of the stuff is HILARIOUS ( I don’t know how to bring over the original tweet, but this one really did make me laugh out loud!
~~~~~~~~~~~
KimJongNumberUn @KimJongNumberUn
If North Koreans could see #GameChange they’d feel better about the way I was picked.
That was a good one. I liked Shit Germans Say@ShitGer
“We are embarassed for you.”
Sympathy wouldn’t been had if their was no attempt to prep her for the interviews and such. Nicole Wallace attempted to do so and if the movie is to be believed Palin DID NOT even try to prep.
Sympathy was lost when she accepted the invite to be on the ticket. People who don’t know their limitations are bound to fail and guess what Palin obviously thought more of her ability than anyone else seem to.
Sympathy would have been had except I begin to think what would have happened if Obama had lost. Sarah Palin with nuclear codes…think about that.
Personally as a woman myself, I was insulted by how easy it was for Sarah Palin to get away with so much ignorance cause she was “easy on the eyes”. Let’s be kind a clear why they picked her. Wasn’t Kay Bailey Hutchinson a possible contenders since it was becoming obvious that they were gonna pick a woman. They may have actually won with Kay Bailey
It does seem that Kay Bailey Hutchinson was the obvious choice, doesn’t it? I thought the same at the time and just shook my head in disgust as a woman. I don’t agree with her politics, but I do respect her hard work and accomplishments. I have to believe she was sorely disappointed to see the Sarah Palin pick…
Yeah, she seemed dumbfounded even when she spoke about her.
I han’t remembered that interview. Just another display that she should have been the pick; professional even then…
I noticed that thru out the 2008 campaign, no Republican women spoke up for the half-term quitter grifter. KBH, Libby Dole, even Condi Rice.
After watching the KBH clip, below it is amazing to me that even with KBH mentioning that she didn’t know much about the half-term quitter grifter, LOOK HOW QUICK SHE WAS TO SAY THAT SHE “HAD A GREAT RECORD” “WAS AN UP AND COMER”!!!
NOTE TO DEMOCRATS!!! SEE?? THIS is how you support your party’s nominee!!
Just sayin’….
The same could be said about the four contenders currently vying for the GOP nomination. One would think, after seeing the disaster created by Bush & Co, that a supremely unqualified person would hesitate for a minute before seeking the most important and most powerful office in the entire world. One would think that they’d look themselves in the mirror and ask whether they really want to follow in the footsteps of George W Bush, and be known for having brought down the global economy, ignored warnings that would have saved lives, and sent thousands of American soldiers to their unnecessary deaths in an illegal war. It’s the height of arrogance that they continue to pursue the presidency, even knowing how inadequate they are to the job.
Ok, this should have been the ending of Game Change right here.
Since I couldn’t bring myself to watch it, was there anything surprising in the telling of the end of the movie? Those that previewed it said we’d be surprised, but I found it hard to believe there would be anything surprising — we all know how it ended!
Not really. Just that Nicole Wallace didn’t even vote for her own presidential ticket and that Sarah Palin was told by McCain not to fall in with Limbaugh and Hannity, or else they would tear the party down.
Really? If this is true then McCain is on to both Hannity and Limbaugh!
As if Ol’ Grumpy McCain hadn’t already done that????
Thanks! Quite interesting when your own campaign members won’t vote for you!!
I think the only surprise was Nichole Wallace’s character admitting to Steve Schmidt that she didn’t vote because she couldn’t cast a vote for the nutjob (SP).
WOW!!! THAT’S when she got a conscience??
The whimpering end of the McCain campaign was a far more devastating image.
Thanks for this video – such an antidote to the nonsense of John McCain and Sarah Palin. You forget sometimes that President Obama was presidential before he was ever President. He’s just simply awesome.
SNL, opening skit was funny – all the “new” sponsors that rush limbaugh “has” are hilarious!!!
Excellent! I can’t wait!
I think one of the best quotes from Game Change was this. “When you lose the moral ground to Dick Cheney, it’s time to rethink your entire life.”
Yes! That was EPIC.
That was a great line. It was a great movie. I recommend it.
twitterati – #GameChange could also have been titled Birth of the Tea Party \\Which makes Santorum the after-birth. Explains a lot.
That’s it exactly. Sarah Paling is what put the wind in the tea party’s sails, something for which McCain shows no remorse. The effing traitor.
This damn keyboard! Stop telling me what word you think I mean!
57 – there ought to be a way to turn that off. Check your settings,
McCain talked about his grandfather dropping dead at the end of the war and his father, in essence, feeling useless after the Navy. McCain says he “can’t quit”. If true, this may explain his willingness to make the hard right turn to get re-elected to his Senate seat. He’s afraid he would end up like his grandfather and father. This is really sad in that he’s saying he has no life outside of politics.
‘This is really sad in that he’s saying he has no life outside of politics.’
This would be the first time he’s truthful since I started paying attention to him, Sabreen. The fact McCain HAS NO LIFE outside of politics is absolutely true IMO. All the evidence points to it. Cast back in your mind to him on stage with his ‘young, lovely, rich’ wife – did you see any life between them? Really? How often do you see them together? Have you seen or heard of any life between him and his son? As far as I heard his son spent some time in the military yet I haven’t seen him anywhere supporting his military hero father. Even his TV pundit daughter didn’t show much life existed between them when he was campaigning. Admittedly there seemed to be a smidgen, and from time to time she does throw in a mention of him that doesn’t seem all cold, but they hardly seem really close. In my prejudiced view she mentions him to make herself more relevant, and to accomplish this she chooses not to disparage him or his choices. Why do you think McCain’s always running to the Middle East when Congress is on a break instead of going home to spend time with family?
TALLY!!! EDSON BUDDLE SCORES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes. but then…..
Have a fever, so I had to give up my tickets.
Yes but then, indeed. Sighs.
Get lots of rest, chicken noodle soup.
Wed is probably going to be just as bad, we’ll have had 3 games in 6 days?
fuck.
Just catching up on the live blogging of “Game Change.” Thanks y’all, for the blow by blow. I don’t have HBO, so I’ll have to see it some other way. All I can say is that I knew from the first time Palin opened her mouth that 1) she was a total and complete fundigelical nutjob; and 2) she would never be elected VP.
McCain has done a lot to tarnish his legacy — most of all, putting the Wasilla Zilla on the ticket.
I’ve NEVER been impressed by Steve Schmidt’s “impartial republican” act — NEVER thought he was brilliant or insightful. Just another joker that keeps failing upward. If what I read is true, he should be too ashamed to show his face, but I’m sure he’ll be right back on MSNBC, where all the cast-off republicans find a home.
And the people of Alaska should be mortified that they ever elected that obviously unqualified, foolish, hate-filled, narcissistic, greedy woman in the first place. Yes, I blame them — also, too!
Palate cleanse: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXtJhLUOFXE The Road We’ve Traveled. Best. Trailer. Ever.
Simply awesome.
Back at last, and since sleep isn’t knocking too heavily thought I’d check on you guys! Anything I should know right away?
WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign is beginning an intensified effort this week to build support among women, using the debate over the new health care law to amplify an appeal that already appears to be benefiting from partisan clashes over birth control and abortion.
On Monday, mailings will go out to 1 million women in more than a dozen battleground states in three separate versions for mothers, young women and older women, Democratic Party officials said.
An effort called “Nurses for Obama” will begin Wednesday, with nurses nationwide enlisted to be advocates for the health care law in their communities. And a new website will include links to video testimonials about the health care overhaul signed by Obama in 2010, including from a former critic who subsequently was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Oooppss, sorry folk … that’s not what I intend to post … here it is ….
#PRESSON
Been saying this all night since seeing Game Change tonight. No one tweets better than you.
Thank you and hope you have a great day!
#PRESSON
My God, what a time, what a time!
Thank you everyone for the play-by-play. I do not have the stomach to watch anything about that Palin woman. I thought that after RL republican women would speak out in support for Ms. Fluke. I guess that was asking too much. But from what I have read tonight, if this movie will not move them to see how evil, controlling and vile their men are and the war against women from their own party is real. Then, I have nothing else to say.
They have no shame. Please let this woman go away and stay. Maybe after this movie the rest of America will wake up and vote this November as if their life depends on it……….really, it does……..Really!
Goodnight everyone. Thank you, Chips.
I need a dose of Let’s Stay Together so I will not have nightmares of that crazy lady….
aloha my tod ohana
my heart is breaking. a dear teacher and friend died last night, as we were preparing for the funeral of a beautiful young mother in our community. i will be absent from here for a while, but know you’re supporting our president, and all will be well. please, if you are so moved, include us in your prayers. mahalo.
Sorry for your loss Susanne. Take care.
Sincere condolences Susanne. You and your friend’s family are in my prayers.
Our thoughts are with you, Susanne. I am sure her family will feel your caring support.
Aloha, Susanne! Know that some of us will be thinking of you, your friend’s family and the young mother’s family over the next days, and each time we remember all of you, we will send our prayerful support. Take good care of each other during this rough time. VC
so sorry susanne – take care
So sorry for your loss; I’m going through it too as my father died last Friday. I am leaving for Canada tomorrow and he will be buried on Wednesday. It will be a rough week. I will be thinking of you and praying at this very sad time.
Votives burning for many who need to be surrounded with Light and Love today. Blessings, susanne.
Haven’t had a chance to catch up with all the recent posts yet. I’m dying to hear the verdict on Game Change. It’s been hard to watch the trailer and her most recent wackadoodle word salad, because that woman repulses me so. Don’t know how y’all sat through two hours of even pretend-Sarah voluntarily.
Anyway, I ran across Frank Scheffer’s latest post — a must read! Here a generous snip…
The Vatican v. President Obama and the American People
http://frank-schaeffer.blogspot.com/
When the Republican Party is trounced in November 2012 all Americans should send thank you notes to the Vatican. The American bishops are lending their tattered “moral authority” to the Republican Party. With friends like these the Republicans need no enemies.
According to the New York Times:
Pope Benedict XVI waded into the American culture wars on Friday, urging visiting American bishops to beef up their teaching about the evils of premarital sex and cohabitation, and denouncing what he called the “powerful” gay marriage lobby in America. Benedict said there was an urgent need for American Catholics to discover the value of chastity, an essential element of Christian teaching that he said had been subject to unjust “ridicule.” The pope also told the bishops not to back down in the face of “powerful political and cultural currents seeking to alter the legal definition of marriage.”
With the “stand” that the Pope and the American bishops are taking in their thinly veiled anti-President Obama, pro-Republican Party campaign in full swing — and being parroted by Santorum and Gingrich — the Republicans are lurching even farther rightward.
And now a far right “religious liberty” group the Becket Fund led by a conservative William P. Mumma, a Wall Street banker who runs the New York trading desk for Mitsubishi UFJ Securities USA, is working closely with the Roman Catholic bishops to suethe government in order to force women to forgo contraception if they happen to work for Catholic run corporations.
Bluntly put, between this Becket Fund suit, the Pope weighing in and the American bishops anti-Obama activity ramping up to try and defeat him in 2012 the Roman Catholic hierarchic leaders seem anxious to declare holy war on the Democratic Party.
This will backfire, not least because the pope and bishops and a far right Wall Street champion of the 1% activist like Mumma (who hates the President because he wants to regulate Wall Street) don’t even speak for most Roman Catholics let alone most Americans. So the Koch brothers can spend 100 million or a 100 billion for that matter to buy the election for big oil and Wall Street, but they might as well burn their Supreme Court-lubricated Super Pac cash… [more in the article]
This is why we have a separation of church and state. The pope also needs to stay out of the affairs of other nations. He should spend more time repenting for the abuses that they hid and cleaning up his own immoral house.
We refuse to be dragged back to the bad old days.
THIS!!
Although if it helps PBO in some way then so be it.
the bishops can ‘tell’ their parishioners what to do (although my Catholic friends beg to differ) but they CANNOT tell the government what policies to enact. I know we’re very far from taking away tax exempt status, but this line has been crossed egregiously. Cardinal George’s lying letter of several weeks back crossed a legal line. He got away with it, as the Church has for the last generation.
Anyone can follow their conscience and have their children any way they see fit. No one forces anyone to have an abortion (despite the insane rhetoric) and certainly no one is forced to take birth control. That is where the the power of the church stops. there is NO religious freedom if some employer can dictate to me what health care I can receive.
This is far over the line. But in a political climate where a Supreme Court Justice can LIE and say that Bush v. Gore ‘wasn’t even close’ at ’7-2′ (!) we have no place to keep our country from falling into the abyss other than the voting booth. 40% of Americans are hopeless. We have to do whatever we can to get the other 60% to the polls.
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/11/us/politics/centrist-women-tell-of-disenchantment-with-gop.html?_r=1&ref=global-home
GOP war on women is taking hold! People are noticing!
They’ll still probably vote GoPoop.
GoPoop? Oooooo I luv it. Can I use it please?
The GOP still does not know what it’s unleashed. A lot of very green tea party people got elected to our state legislatures and in a fit of insanity, people in a lot of states elected far, far right Republican governors. We’ve seen months and months of Republican candidates shamefully pandering to this extremist right and now the whole sorry far right agenda is being laid bare. Instead of cleverly disguising their misogyny and racism as Repubs in the past have done, these guys have laid it out for all to see. And what we see is not in any way consistent with the opinions of the vast majority of Americans and most especially not with the majority of women. Having the Republicans expose themselves this way is the best thing that could happen to the US. People have been led astray by the masks and lies the GOP has spread for many decades. And now the lies are being seen for what they are.
From the article:
“We all agreed that this seemed like a throwback to 40 years ago,” said Ms. Russell, 57, a retired teacher from Iowa City who describes herself as an evangelical Christian and “old school” Republican of the moderate mold.
Until the baby shower, just two weeks ago, she had favored Mitt Romney for president.
Not anymore. She said she might vote for President Obama now. “I didn’t realize I had a strong viewpoint on this until these conversations,” Ms. Russell said. As for the Republican presidential candidates, she added: “If they’re going to decide on women’s reproductive issues, I’m not going to vote for any of them. Women’s reproduction is our own business.”
The fact these women are still saying, they ‘may’ vote for Obama makes me shake my head. I’m sorry, but that’s blind ignorance and partisanship! Given all that has already been revealed about the Republican party and its candidates, and given all that Republicans have done since their 2010 victories, it boggles my mind that sensible Americans anywhere in the country, and certainly not women, would still be hesitant at this point about who best represents their interests. It’s views like this that make me think sometimes ‘let them get what they ask for’, forgetting for a moment that those who didn’t ask for it would also be penalized. She ‘MAY’ vote for Obama? One may stay home? Ignorant, uninformed, unthinking partisan! Selfish and blind too! No insight! There! I feel a little better.
this is great. I read with relief what that one lady said who hadn’t even realized what her position on women’s health was until she started to have the conversation and realized that these yahoo’s that are the Republican party noms are throwbacks to 40 years ago! She said she was for Romney but not anymore – she is considering PBO. And that’s all it takes. Once you get that veil taken off your eyes and really start looking PBO is the clear choice and right choice.
Not voting for any Republican is almost as good as voting for PBO. It is one less vote for their side, which helps a lot.
I don’t think that David Plouffe or David Axelrod could have come up with a better campaign ad than “Game Change” even if they tried.
http://worldnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/03/11/10639152-report-us-soldier-kills-up-to-16-afghan-civilians
OMG> NOT GOOD. He’s lost his mind and we will all pay a heavy price. Can’t get out of this war fast enough.
I saw that on the news this morning. It’s not good. It’s not good at all. After the Koran burning, the retaliatory killing of 7 American soldiers, and now this. Things are tense for sure.
Shit. WTF?!
I was thinking the same thing, desertflower. I could imagine someone waking President Obama up in the middle of the night and telling him this news, I’m starting to wonder does he ever get to sleep through the night without being roused out of bed with bad news.
No, this is not good. After the Quran burning incident, that still has the people angry, and now this? This soldier had obvious mental combat stress related issues here, and just snapped…as true as that may be, it won’t defuse the new anger that will arise from this horrible incident.My heart goes out to those Afghan people, and to the troops and the soldier that did this.The idiots that have gotten us into a war that has lasted so long and taken an unimaginable toll. It’s easy to start a war, not so easy to get out. Both messes were left to this President to clean up and take care of.FU Bush! FU!
That 3am call has been answered more than once by this President. The weight on his shoulders is immense. One MORE reason to make sure that he is given 4 more years….who knows what wars (Iran, anyone?) will be started if PBO is not elected again. I pray for him, and wish for a clear head and good guidance.Thank goodness that he is the one answering this call.
This is SABOTAGE. Plain and simple. That soldier must be a Republican who wants to make things difficult for the administration.
hf….who knows, but I think that’s a reach. I understand where you’re coming from, but we know nothing about this soldier.Imagine if he has been there multiple times, and just had enough. Gone off the deep end seems to be a more realistic thought about what happened here. I can’t imagine what they all go through. The untold ravages of war that will be felt by these men long after this mess is over.
That’s true df. I agree with it is a reach but it’s a possibility. After the Koran burning the Republicans (including the current candidates) were quick with their talking points about PBO’s apologizing. It’s like they were prepped for this event and came armed with their script. Let’s see how they respond to this issue.
The RW naturally looks for ANYTHING to make this President look bad. The mental collapse of this soldier will just fuel the fire. Funny, they always talk so big on responsibility, yet flee that anytime it ACTUALLY needs to happen.Like I said, they had no problem getting us IN to this mess, but now they want to pretend that anything that happens with regards to the war is all PBO’s fault. They always jump in with both feet, yet never want to be held accountable for their wrongdoings in anything. This is just another example. The list is long.
My two cents is that the politicians are gonna do what they do, but from my experience there are no political partys in combat. When bullets are flying you’ll hunker down with a person you had a fight with the week before. You can rest assured something set the soldier off and we’ll never know ’cause we weren’t there.
And when bullets aren’t flying some soldiers have resorted to their partisian stuff as noted in this example here:
http://newsone.com/nation/associatedpress3/marines-look-into-tea-party-soldier-for-disobey-obama-facebook-post/
i feel you on this yardarm sir…
we may never know….let me ask you…if this person had become somewhat disturbed …who would have known about it…how could he have gotten off the base undetected ….does this show a lack of discipline among the ranks there…
as you say we may never know….but what are your thoughts…
I can’t begin to tell you what makes a person ‘snap’. There is a point in all of us that I call the ‘fuck it’ point. That means everything that is not helpfull is perceived as a threat. You feel trapped and helpless and all you have is the weapon in your hand. You do stupid things. I’ve seen a person stand up in the middle of artillery explosions shaking his fist and screaming at the top of his ‘fuck you” and not get hit. He was never quite the same after that and neither was I for seeing it…..I do believe there is a God.
thank you for your hearrtfelt comments…..
I doubt it. Chances are the soldier lost his mind.
You’re right. That’s more likely. However, I’m waiting to see the GOP response.
Here’s one:
http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entries/gingrich-reacts-to-shooting-in-afghanistan
And then when PBO issues a formal personal apology, Gingrich will be the first one to attack him for “apologizing to Muslims for America.”
Agreed.
If Clear Channel won’t clean up its airways, then surely it’s time for the public to ask the FCC a basic question: Are the stations carrying Limbaugh’s show in fact using their licenses “in the public interest?”
Spectrum is a scarce government resource. Radio broadcasters are obligated to act in the public interest and serve their respective communities of license. In keeping with this obligation, individual radio listeners may complain to the FCC that Limbaugh’s radio station (and those syndicating his show) are not acting in the public interest or serving their respective communities of license by permitting such dehumanizing speech.
The FCC takes such complaints into consideration when stations file for license renewal. For local listeners near a station that carries Limbaugh’s show, there is plenty of evidence to bring to the FCC that their station isn’t carrying out its public interest obligation. Complaints can be registered under the broadcast category of the FCC website: http://www.fcc.gov/complaints
You know, Micole Wallace had 2 important jobs. The first was w Vommunications director for GW, where she was in charge of Scott McCleland. That was a FAIL.
Then, she was supposed to shape Sawah, in the 08 Campaign. Another huge Fail.
So, basically, she is a failure at her job of communicating, and yet the MSM asks her questions, as if she is some sort of authority.
It’s crazy, I tell ya, just crazy!!!
The people who keep yapping about “Affirmative Action” need to look at these glaring examples everyday in our MSM.
I read somewhere Nicolle Wallace was paid $100,000 a month during the campaign. That is really crazy. There are big bucks in the campaign world.
I would not pay her 100 bucks to be my spokesperson.
She is Bad. And judging by her record, how is it that she can be on msnbc or abc at a whim, as an expert pundit?
But, Jovie, with the help of the MSM, Wallace is not a failure at excusing her actions by drawing comparisons with Democrats. She does it quite eloquently on the occasions I’ve seen her. She does this often enough she will succeed in poisoning the water some more for democrats and be readily visible for a new republican communicating job as soon as one becomes available. This is one time I will say democrats should study how repubs train communicators like Wallace and Schmidt who easily deflect criticisms of THEIR leaders by quickly turning the attention to their opponents in their answers.
Good Morning… Did I miss this ? It is two days old….
Is this the same video posted right at the top of the previous thread, no?
oh….I didn’t watch it before…I thought that was just a clip of her on Fox.
Thanks for the heads up.
As baby showers go, the party Mary Russell attended to celebrate her niece’s first child was sweet, with about a dozen women offering congratulations over ice cream and cake.
But somewhere between the baby name game and the gifts, what had been light conversation took a sharp turn toward the personal and political — specifically, the battle over access to birth control and other women’s health issues that have sprung to life on the Republican campaign trail in recent weeks.
“We all agreed that this seemed like a throwback to 40 years ago,” said Ms. Russell, 57, a retired teacher from Iowa City who describes herself as an evangelical Christian and “old school” Republican of the moderate mold.
Until the baby shower, just two weeks ago, she had favored Mitt Romney for president.
Not anymore. She said she might vote for President Obama now. “I didn’t realize I had a strong viewpoint on this until these conversations,” Ms. Russell said. As for the Republican presidential candidates, she added: “If they’re going to decide on women’s reproductive issues, I’m not going to vote for any of them. Women’s reproduction is our own business.”
There are two big reasons for [Obama's] improvement, and these are things we’re seeing most places right now:
-The Democratic base is unifying around him. In October he was at 75/17 with his party’s voters, now it’s 86/10. The more Democratic voters see the Republican candidate field, the more they forgive Obama for not being completely perfect and get behind him.
-Obama’s flipped independents from giving him negative reviews (46/49) to positive ones (54/38).
This is from Maine, but they’re finding this is universal for all states.
But, but Jake Tapper said that this year, GOP enthusiasm is great while the DEMS are deflated and not solidly behind PBO.
Tapper is a tool.We know who butters his bread.
Agreed Tapper is an AssHat
Seriously, I hope Tapper and his cronies continue chasing their tails in this regard, putting out delusional messages, while the rest of the country gets in the correct mind set for November. If they are busy lying, while sharing their preferred message, then they hopefully won’t have the time to notice what is really happening. So yes, Tapper, it’s sad that Dems enthusiasm is deflated. Keep mourning their misfortune and we’ll get back to you November 7th with an update.
You speak for us vcprez! I can’t wait to check on their Twitter feed on Nov 7th so see what their reaction will be…
My heart is heavy over the killings and renewed tensions in Afghanistan. President Obama must deal with countless urgencies day in and day out.
Read a Reuters report that it was a group of US soldiers, not just one guy. This is fucking unbelievable.
http://news.yahoo.com/u-serviceman-detained-afghanistan-over-civilian-casualties-061049040.html
CBS is still reporting it was one soldier who is in custody
lisa…I read this as a group of soldiers were patrolling, and one of them snapped and shot those civilians.
most reports are that it is one US soldier who is still alive and is in custody
He should bering them all home now. I really don’t get why we’re there.
Two reasons: nuclear weapons and the ‘poppy’.
No need to have 100,000 people there. Nothing good can come out of this war. Killing Bin Laden should have been the end of it.
LOL!
HEADLINE: Santorum Claims Romney Secretly Rigged GOP Primaries In His Favor
// Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum is leveling the bombshell claim that Mitt Romney secretly manipulated the GOP primary process in his favor. Appearing on NBC’s Meet The Press on Sunday morning, Santorum claims that “Governor Romney’s been doing this for four years and he worked very hard to make sure that states moved up that were very advantageous to him.” Santorum goes on to note that he may make an appeal to Republican “superdelegates” to sway the nomination back towards him. Santorum points out that while the Massachusetts millionaire has “outspent [him] about 10 to one,” Romney “can’t close the deal.” //
http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/03/08/2683535/mormon-church-restricts-access.html#storylink=cpy
SALT LAKE CITY — Mormon leaders have put up a virtual firewall in their massive genealogical database to block out anyone who attempts to access the names of hundreds of thousands of Holocaust victims the church has agreed not to posthumously baptize.
/snip/
But critics say it merely serves to block anyone from monitoring whether the posthumous baptisms continue.
“By not allowing public access to the records, it creates the illusion they have something to hide,” said Jewish genealogist Gary Mokotoff, who was involved in negotiations with the church over ending the practice for the past two decades.
Mormons believe the baptism ritual allows deceased people a way to the afterlife – if they choose to accept it.
But the practice offends members of many other religions, especially Jews, who have expressed outrage at attempts to alter the religion of Holocaust victims because they were killed based on their beliefs.
In the 1990s, after negotiations with Jewish leaders, the church agreed to end to the practice, but revelations by an ex-Mormon researcher have shown it continues.
Sorry, But these people seem to push their religious beliefs on everyone, it would seem.They said they stopped this practice years ago…yet it still continues. They lied? How holy of them.
I look at this site as a great way to ‘push back’ http://alldeadmormonsarenowgay.com/
If thIngs keep happening in Afghanistan, the way they are, expect a policy change in May NATO talks.
tougher days are ahead for President Obama and all of us as the reports of the US soldier killing civillians in Afghanistan spreads. what in the world is going on and what are we going to do about it?
That is the question I keep asking. As we engage in talks with the opposition and are nearing de-escalation, is there something going on there that is contributing to these events?
These “outrageous events” are happening too frequently for me. I’m starting to put on my conspiracy hat. It just feels like someone is trying to undermine our military involvement there. Something just doesn’t seem right to me.
That is the same question that keeps popping up in my head. And yes, I may sound paranoid when I talk of sabotage, but the timing of these incidents is raising a few flags for me. I am open to all possibilities, and as others have noted, this may be simply the case of a solider having a mental breakdown, but I put nothing past the desperate GOP (and that include some Libertarian GOP members as well) and the complicit media in this election year.
I notice that the immediate reaction of many of us upon hearing news like this is to say that the troops need to get out ASAP. But a recent poll showed that the majority of Afghans did NOT support the troops leaving. 75% of those Afghans polled felt that their own forces were not yet properly trained and still needed military assistance of US/NATO forces in Afghanistan. In fact, the majority of Afghans pretty much seemed in agreement with the timeline put forth by the Obama administration, i.e., that the Afghan police force will be fully ready by 2014.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/feedarticle/10068675
However, that was before the Koran burning. I would love to see a current post koran burning and this incident.
There is something that doesn’t feel right about this, that’s for sure. Not sure what to make of it and perhaps we’ll never know any of the information in the intelligence reports, but something is afoot. We are headed for a drawdown very soon so none of this seems to fit the bigger picture. The killings took place in Kandahar. The koran burning took place at the Bagram base. Two different regions.
Just for a nice Sunny Sunday Morning laugh….Here is a comment on Paymelin’s Facebook page.
Here’s a classic SP follower……….I
Marissa Mahon
Because they are so jealous from her also they afraid from her rule because she’s not playing or don’t take cratf to anyone and I love that personally she is true leader to stand up for America …it happen she been so victim to all this bully’s ..gladly she never give up
LOL!!
Typical Palin supporter! Wonder how long she took to configure that sentence and type it! Sentence is all rolled into one, just like her master!
There are rumors the half term governor comments about herself on Facebok under fake names.
You may be correct, Bill! It is either her (Palin) or someone morphed into her!
It’s a totally fake sentence because of the way it’s constructed.
Wow know wonder they love her. They speak HER language.
Wow…English as a second language.
This word salad was written by SP herself. Look at the name, sound it out. Fiction, made up. What a moron. Maroon were good people, hate when moron is changed into maroon. Maroon were fighters, fought off the British by throwing stones at them from the hills in Jamaica. SP is a moron.
Chips! Chips! Where are you? I’ve been clicking back and forth between my two browsers for over an hour now, trying to catch you in the act of posting the new thread. WHERE are you? I can’t keep this up much longer even if only from the point of view that I’m hungry – haven’t made breakfast yet!
Ha! Go eat your breakfast VC. Chips told us that sometimes she works on the weekends and it can be her busy time. I think you might want to get some nourishment for the long day ahead
ha VC you crack me up!
K. guys i gotta go help my sister move furniture around. See you later. THANKYOU TOD for the play by play on ‘Game Change’ !
Seems I have to take your advice, DD4O, because my stomach is rumbling fiercely, and hunger does trigger a migraine in me. I just know Chips is going to sneak in when I’m gone (Grrr!) but I can’t hold out much longer.
Be careful with the moving a4A. Make sure you don’t strain anything.
Aw, let her sleep in. go have a nice, Sunday morning breakfast.
I hope her spirits are not down because of the Afghanistan killing incident – it’s just so depressing what happened. I know she has been very concerned about the US occupation in Afghanistan. I hope she’s just sleeping in on a Sunday like you said.
Great read! http://www.politicususa.com/jobs-death-panel/
tnmtgirl…more YOU KNOW WHAT!!!
Thanks!
I have to say it really bums me out to see OFA featuring The Quitter in any of our ads. The majority of the country despises her – she’s a complete idiot and not worth anybody’s time. I’m not happy about that ad.
Here’s the thing that has occurred to me since watching the movie last night: showing Palin shines a big, bright light on Repubican decision-making, judgment and the sham of ‘country first’ when it was always about ‘winning first’ and nothing else. I would have agreed with you 24 hours ago, but now I think it’s a potent message for us to use.
Thanks, I guess I’ll have to see the film when it comes to Netflix. She’s like a cockroach the way she keeps going even though people are thoroughly sick of her.
meta, I understand where you are coming from but this election campaign will be very different from 2008 (thanks to Citizen United). This WH will not be able to leave any attack unchallenged. She attacked him so our side uses it as an opportunity to raise funds for the campaign. As outrageous as the birthers are (and yes the majority of the country think their assertions are ridiculous) the Obama Campaign uses those opportunities to sell that birth certificate cup. SP is no different.
I will never forget Plouffe talking about the campaign after we won and him saying that SP was the biggest driver of campaign donations because we all realized how outrageous she is. We may think that she is not worth the time but our ridiculous media will run with every controversial comment she makes and if we don’t push back by showing how ridiculous she is it will get legs and take off. They saw this happen with the Health Care fight and I get the impression that they refuse to allow her to have the upper hand. I think they have calculated that it is better to ridicule her than to just let her words run rampant throughout the media.
I hear what you’re saying. I confess my own personal temperament is getting in the way of my understanding. I so completely despise her arrogance, her lack of education, her misguided and ill-informed opinions, her race-baiting dog whistles that could wake the dead. I detest her with the bright hot light of a billion suns +1. So it pains me to see her face and hear her insanity and then the OFA logo. ACK. But I hear you loud and clear, Donna.
what ad is that ? Any linky ?
amk, it’s just upthread a bit.
Palin motivates Dems to donate money. You remember the campaign raised a million in 24 hours when she first gave her convention speech?
Actually……. 130,000 donors gave 10,000,000.00 dollars within 24 hours of her convention speech
http://www.oregonlive.com/politics/index.ssf/2008/09/obama_raises_10_million_after.html
wow. I remember that night.
This election cycle is gonna be worse. Whole 1/ers, evangelicals, racists and the fucking pope are all on the opposite side.
Glad to be wrong about that #
I was one of the donors too. I think it was the ‘community organizer’ comment that did it.
Yup…I was one of those 130k donors. Went to bed that night and could not sleep a wink because palin had made me
So mad. Got out of bed about 1am turned on the computer and donated to our community organizer. Slept like a baby
after that.
I’m watching Howard Kurtz hold the screenwriters of Game Change to documentary-style truth standards. Does he do that to Romney?
No.
Howard Kurtz is all about the false equivalency nonsense. He was one of those who felt a thrill up his legs for Palin. He wants people to think that Game Change was a propaganda movie. Newsflash Howie it just portrayed Palin exactly as she is. A hateful race baiting monster.
I recorded and watched Game Change late last night, and the movie depicted all that I remember the MSM discussing when all of the events were happening; including Kurtz. I laughed a lot because it seemed so real.
What ? Has ANYONE claimed the movie is not accurate ?
all you really need to say
http://www.stonekettle.com/2012/03/absurdity-of-rush-limbaugh.html
Rush is a political arm of the Republican establishment, he has been given license to say what they themselves cannot say in public, he is no “radio personality” speaking his mind, he is thanked and being highly paid for what he does, stir up the crazies, get them in the voting booths and have them thinking a certain way. Rush is the ultimate propaganda conveyer for the RNC. Rush is a power borker in the Republican Party, and our wise President knows this. He is on the air in our Armed Force Radio complimenting Bush at the time, now he is being used to cause dissent in the ranks with his bile, I hope we get enough signatures on the petitions to get him off the air.
That’s correct. And when people try to use the false equivalence of Bill Maher or Keith Olbermann, neither of whom are considered de facto leaders of the Democratic party or DNC, it’s absurd.
No, when the mob gathered to watch and jeer while a bully beat up the weak and helpless, it was the President of the United States who stepped forward.
Stonekettle Station
Thanks Df for the link. Clear concise commentary. Imagine that folks actually said that the president’s call was a political calculation. How dumb can some people get? Never mind, the answer stretches into infinity.
He has amazing posts…most of the time. This time, he was spot on!
Hello, this is Sarah…
Give Todd, Trip, Track, Trig, Trap, and Trot, and Trick our regards.
Too funny! But, I’ll!
This tragedy in afghanisthan is yet another proof that american should get the fuck outta there. The US army owns this fuck-up and let’s hope the trial of all those involved including the chain of command is transparent and just.
The US has plans to withdraw from Afghanistan and I doubt that these incidents will cause a dramatic change from the timeline – even though my tinfoil guess is that the latest string of incidents from the urinating on corpses, then the Koran burning to the current shooting is to generate angst and discord in Obama’s base and provide yet another opening for the GOP to attack the President.
As someone on Twitter posted:
I replied to her that this is in fact the intended effect.
This is minimally different from the earlier discussions we’ve had concerning the Catholic church and contraception coverage issue. The only difference is that real lives are being destroyed for petty reasons. All of these incidents are being committed by US solidiers yet they aren’t the only ones deployed. I don’t get it.
“All of these incidents are being committed by US solidiers yet they aren’t the only ones deployed.”
It’s a very good point you raise, hf. It was the same point I raised at the BJ thread on this subject. It’s time high time the entire american military, from PBO downwards, did some serious introspection on this behavior of their personnel.
Furthermore, while the shooting incident could be considered an effect of PTSD – the Koran burning and corpse urination do not strike me as such. It also appears that after the civilians were shot and killed, other US solidiers engaged in further offensives by pouring chemicals on the bodies and burning them. This may not have been simply one soldier going off – it seemed more like a coordinated attack, and the media of course is damn near useless when it comes to accurate reports.
I agree. This kinda excusing only makes the matter worse.
You should read this BJ thread http://www.balloon-juice.com/2012/03/11/developing-story-us-soldier-murders-16-afghan-civilians-in-their-beds/#comment-3103472 , especially posts by Ramiah Ariya.. He/she raises some valid points.
The only mitigarting factor here is it’s PBO in charge and I hope that he will do the right thing.
My heart goes out to those innocent dead children.
News of the shooting was just so devastating to me. Will humanity ever be able to leave violence for whatever reason and war etc behind? Sigh! Let there be peace, and let it begin with me.
What? That’s not what I posted! At least, that’s not what I intended to post – must have copied url from the wrong browser. Humblest apologies. Taking another shot at it and if it fails will just crawl quietly away.
Oh Lord, now the right one shows up above, so there are now two! Okay, I’m going to give myself a time out until I can get it back together. Doing some much needed housework might ground me again. Sorry for the mix-up…..Have a good afternoon, everyone! a confused mind-deadened VC
Title: The subtle racism of ascribing success to luck
//For a couple of years now the chattering class has been characterizing President Obama as weak. What’s interesting is that now that his political fortunes are improving, there seems to be a meme developing that he’s lucky. //
Yes. I’ve noticed that disturbing trend myself. He’s not lucky…he’s a long goal thinker. The people throwing the “lucky” memo around, have NO IDEA what is required for that type of thought process. They are short term, myopic “thinkers”….no wonder why they’re baffled. The truth of this never even occurred to them, therefore…it must be luck. Idiots.
Good west coast morning Chipsticks and TOD family.
BLESS YOU ALL TODAY…OFF TO CHECK OUT WHERE MY VOTER REG. STATION WILL BE NEXT WEEKEND…:)
Good afternoon Todville
Love this Karen Hunter on MSNBC getting in the republican strategist’s butt. He is trying to say PBO can’t over 50 in the polls. She retorted none of the repubs get over 35!!! You know that’s Right.
Poor Alex feels sorry for Palin because she was thrust into a position she was not ready for. Boo hoo hooo . Sarah could have quit.
PBO is over 50% in many polls. more republicans being allowed to lie, lie, and lie some more with no “journalist” saying, “actually that’s not true. here are several recent polls where PBO is well over 50%.” which is a basic fact. thank god we have the internet today to share the truth instead of the constant lies of our billionaire media.
Every weekend I despair of Alex Witt’s brain. Her lack of intelligence is shocking. All she seems good at doing is reading a teleprompter. She sits down there and accepts every Tom, Dick, and Harry lie her GOP guests spoon feed her.
She just compared President Obama’s jobs event – which he does every friday when jobs numbers are released; be they good or bad – to a victory lap. How is that a victory lap??!!!
Karen Hunter was great. She reminds the GOP that this is 2012 and their lies will not go unchecked.
Alex Nit Witt…..
LOL! Alex Twit…
Alex Witt is the one that sit there as Chris Matthews attack the President and then he went after the First Lady, and she sat there like a knot on a log. As for Karen Hunter, I like her, I think maybe she should have gotten the tv show instead of Mrs. M. H. Perry.
Chip, love, where are you? #worried.
Me too.
I remember her saying weekends are her busiest, but I do hope she is ok
That’s true. But normally she posts a quick “rise & shine” or “Chat away” thread indicating such and that she will be back. Anyway, hopefully it’s no cause for alarm.
I’m perfect, aristac – actually, that sounds bad! Will be back soon, just getting some work out of the way. Thanks so much
All’s good BWD! Just a bit snowed under with work today, but will catch up later. Thank you for asking!
Pfffffff. Take it easy. Love you to pieces.
We’re happy to hear from you Chipsticks! We’ll be here when you have time for us
oops…sorry for the alarm Chips
Glad to see that you’re okay. We’ll continue chatting away then!!
Love you, Chipsticks, we’ve got your back!
Me too.
Has Chipsticks been quiet on Twitter too? (I don’t tweet)
Yep.
Hi everyone.. First day off in two weeks, man, I am tired! Spring is definitely here!
Thank you Chips and TOD Family!
Just getting going for a Re-elect President Obama Sunday – I donated this morning and this afternoon will attend an OFA meeting at Glendale Community College in California.
Hi JoJo, did you get the email about the Grand Opening of the OFA Los Angeles Headquarters?
Sounds wonderful, GGail
I hope that you and the other CA TOD’ers get to meet up! That would be great…
I know df!
I just can’t seem to be able to connect with them. I would love for us to meet next week.
Where’s Tally, LL, HZ, and other CA TODers????
Would be like a family reunion….and an awesome connection. Keep trying, GGail. Keep trying! If I see them post, I’ll remind them that you want to try and meet there…I would love to meet my AZ TOD’ers as well, at a OFA here….they mean the world to me.
Yes, df, you feel my excitement!!!
Thanks
I sure do!!!!
Hi GGail,
I rsvp’d for the OFA LA office opening and will be there as well; coming from Downtown so I hope the LA traffic gods are in good spirits on Thursday. I’ll be wearing my “it’s President THAT ONE to you!” button (watching Caribou Barbie and the Game Change last night, got me so riled up, I had to get that button back out), and PURPLE SHOES of course!
Hi GGail,
I did get the email and I saw your post about it too. I have a dentist appointment on the westside so I will be there. I will be wearing my Obamabot tee, necklace, and earrings. I hope to see many SoCal TOD’ers there.
Whooo Hoooooo!
Look forward to seeing you there JoJo
With many probably wearing Obamabot gear, maybe we should do like LL suggests and wear a carnation or something – I’m open to any and all suggestions.
SEE! At least you and JoJo!! We’ll keep after it
I thought LL mentioned that he wanted to go….
Wearing a green carnation maybe? It’s close to St. Patricks day so there should be an abundance of green carnations and green for President’s O’bama rendition of Al Greens song.
thanks for highlighting that great post. i have been noticing that theme too, and mostly in the so called liberal blogs and pundits. In my opinion it is a direct extension of the attacks you would often hear and still hear against affirmative action, and those who the privileged class deemed were inferior. i mean a major theme from the beginning of PBO’s time in office has been the “affirmative action president” which i’ve seen used a lot from the so called “left” too!!
even though i disagreed a lot with his Waiting for Superman movie about education, i was so happy to see what davis guggenheim said on that CNN show hosted by that racist englishman the other day. gugenheim said he couldn’t really find any fault in PBO, and that’s exactly how i feel too. it’s not about some notion of him being “perfect.” what an impossible standard to hold anyone to, let a lone the president!!! i don’t remember anyone asking if george w. bush was perfect. it’s about PBO, given that incredible deck stacked against him, doing the job as a whole better than anyone else could possibly do. PBO probably in hindsight wishes he could’ve done some things differently, but no one, and i mean no one overall could do as well as he has done and will continue to do the next 5 years if we all get out there and work for his reelection!!!
I always loved this quote from “Friday Night Lights” (movie) that the coach told his team. It is what being perfect means to him.
Coach Gary Gaines: Being perfect is not about that scoreboard out there. It’s not about winning. It’s about you and your relationship with yourself, your family and your friends. Being perfect is about being able to look your friends in the eye and know that you didnt let them down because you told them the truth. And that truth is you did everything you could. There wasnt one more thing you could’ve done. Can you live in that moment as best you can, with clear eyes, and love in your heart, with joy in your heart? If you can do that gentleman – you’re perfect!
I think that this President is the perfect embodiment of this very thought. This truly IS what being perfect, in human terms, means.
This.
that’s perfect! thank you.
Good morning everyone! It is really spring here in MT. The birds are back and it’s in the high 40′s, snow is melting. Much to early but I am ready for the sun.
Thanks for everyone for the reports on Game Change. I can’t watch any of that. It bad enough living thru it. Now living thru this year is very scary too. We all must do all we can for a democratic congress for our great President who will be reelected. Keep the information coming.
Once again I’m glad it’s Obama as President. He’s shown that he’s a man of compassion and dignity and integrity. The Afghans know that this is just a horrible murder, not any sort of policy designed to make their lives more miserable. I know he’ll do the right thing for everyone concerned and tell us the truth.
My condolences go out, through whatever invisible wings of prayer they may be, to that Afghan farmer and his family, and eternal peace to those who were murdered.
As for Chipsticks not posting another thread, I thought that maybe she was outside enjoying the beautiful March weather (It’s 65 where I live as I’m typing this, and sunny!)
New post everyone:
By JOHN BRESNAHAN | 3/11/12 9:15 AM EDT
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said Sunday he understands the Obama campaign’s decision not to transfer millions of dollars in financial aid sought by the House and Senate Democratic campaign committees, and he believes the White House will do whatever it can to support candidates up and down the ticket.
Reid was responding to a POLITICO reports that President Barack Obama’s key political advisers, David Plouffe and Jim Messina, recently met with him and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to discuss the request and the president’s decision to say no, at least for now.
“There are many ways they are helping us,” Reid said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “I didn’t expect them to bring their checkbook.”
But the issue of finances – and how to counter the rise of super PACs, especially those allied with the GOP – are a major issue for Reid and Senate Democrats. The recent retirement announcement by Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe of Maine has thrown a GOP-controlled seat into play and given Reid and other top Democrats hope that they can hold onto the Senate after being all but written off earlier in the cycle.
http://www.politico.com/blogs/politico-live/2012/03/reid-obama-campaign-has-to-guard-their-money-117048.html
The only ones written off the Senate is the media.
