Things can only continue to get better for our President and the Democrats. Lets keep the momentum going.
It is a beautiful day on my side of Jamaica. I will be staying home today, to read, surf the internet (read some TOD post about my favourite President), watch television and sleep (my favourite).
Love Jamaica. It is indeed so beautiful, has it all, scenic in all directions. Daughter spent honeymoon there a couple of years ago, they fell in love too, sad to leave, vowed to return.
I thought David Frum wrote a very insightful review of Game Change. I know everyone has a differing opinion on the prospect of this movie, but from all indications it is well acted, well done and, most importantly, real and true. Frum mentions Palin’s “unfathomable ignorance”, but the real unfathomable part to me—–still just unbelievable—-that this completely ill-prepared person was plucked from obscurity and plunked down a heartbeat away from the most powerful position in the world. Just amazing still. And I believe the movie makes clear all the damage and divisiveness she brought to our politics and still does. http://www.thedailybeast.com/newsweek/2012/03/04/david-frum-hbo-s-game-change-charts-sarah-palin-s-revenge.html?obref=obnetwork
Neither she, Steve Schmidt, John McCain nor anyone else involved in that debacle should be able to show their faces in public let alone be invited to offer their expert opinion about anything. Schmidt’s current self-serving act as the reasonable Republican is a BS move intended to regain his lost credibiltiy and respect but I am not having any of it when you consider the lasting damage and toxic environment that woman almost single-handedly brought to our political discourse and continues to do so to this day.
Exactly. They keep waxing eloquent about her speeches. When someone writes a full speech for someone else, it’s easy to just open your mouth and repeat. When she spoke her own words she revealed how stunningly ignorant she was.
And even as she recites the words written by someone else, her delivery of the material is not great either. It’s high-pitched, shrill and there’s a nervous tremor in her voice, along with a usual snarl/scowl on her face as she speaks. The only people who get excited by that are the middle-aged 60-something males in the media who probably have ZERO sex lives and need a washed-up has been 40-something to remind them of their long past youth.
Which is ironic when you consider how much they ridicule PBO about the use of a teleprompter which is how that idiot delivered all her speeches and by the way the only time she ever remotely makes any sense. No president has time to memorize every speech he delivers. These people are too dumb to realize they are ridiculing progress, modernity and technology. It’s like making fun of someone who uses a cell phone instead of a telegraph or driving a car instead of a horse and buggy.
Whenever people say PBO spoke without a teleprompter it’s buying into that ridiculous meme. As someone who once operated a teleprompter when I worked in television news as a production assistant, it’s only used for prepared text such as speeches and actual news stories. Chit-chat between news anchors is complete ad-lib. A teleprompter can’t be used in interviews or press conferences because you have no idea what questions are going to be asked and if you did have some idea you wouldn’t know the order of the questions. Text is loaded into the teleprompter in the order that it is to be delivered. There are times when a story is “killed” during the newscast (usually because of time constraints or breaking news) and when that happens the Production Assistant has to either remove it from the prompter or ask the person operating the prompter to quickly speed past that story. The anchors hate that because they usually have no idea what’s going on which is why they have to be quick on their feet and able to quickly adapt. So, other than those initial prepared remarks, every answer to a reporter’s question during a press conference is answered from PBO’s wealth of personal knowledge on the issues of the day.
I agree with you. I find it amazing when people say that Steve Schmidt is a republican they can admire. I don’t think he’s impressive AT ALL, and his shallow call to put Palin on a presidential ticket is one big reason why. He plays the part of “impartial republican” on t.v., but I’m not buying the act, and his so-called analysis leaves a lot to be desired. Bleh!
Yes, his analysis may be delivered in a measured voice, but it does leave a lot to be desired. The pundits have swallowed, without question, his claim that 47% of the electorate is equally democrat and republican. But, I could have sworn that there were reports out that showed that the republican electorate has shrunk, and so-called “reasonable” republicans have run to disavow themselves of the current racist, bigoted, idiotic and willfully ignorant version of the GOP. At last count, I thought that the registered republicans were at about 26% of the electorate. People are realizing that this GOP isn’t their father’s GOP. And that makes many more up for grabs for a moderate, truly conservative (in the real sense of the word, not the Taliban version) voice.
I’m totally on the same page with you, L3. They all sat quietly, knowing how much of a disaster this woman was, and were perfectly prepared to let her be propelled to the second highest office in the land – a heartbeat from the presidency – with no regard for the potential disaster it would cause this country. It’s even worse that she says she couldn’t even vote for her – because at that time, there was no guarantee that the famous “Bradley Effect” wouldn’t doom the chances of President Obama. She held her vote, kept her mouth shut, and cashed her paycheck. That’s despicable! And the fact that she now is paraded on MSNBC as an expert, and fawned over by the likes of Maddow and friends – it just makes me gag. Steve Schmidt, too. They should be tried for treason.
I refuse to watch this movie. Anything to do with Halperin is dead to me. And Palin has had too much attention to last a lifetime. It’s that celebrity culture that now threatens to bring Joe the non-Plumber to the US Congress. I love Julianne Moore and the actor playing John McCain – but I won’t have anything to do with that movie until it’s running on free tv – and maybe not even then.
I might be different from the rest, but I do not care to see Game Change. When I say i can’t stand Sarah Palin, I can’t stand Sarah Palin,I don’t want to read anything about her, see a movie about her, and certainly not listen to anything she has to say.
That’s very good. I admit I didn’t have any real idea just how badly she damaged this country. You’d think it would be a cautionary tale about not letting emotionally unstable people run for the highest office in the land.
I just had to bring this over from the Frum article. It’s surprisingly good and the comments are a good mix of her delusional supporters and on the money detractors.
The professionals soon discover their mistake. “I don’t even like to say this, but has it occurred to you guys that she might be mentally unstable?” asks one staffer about the woman the McCain campaign proposed to put next in line to America’s nuclear codes. As they come to know Palin, the campaign professionals begin to feel an awakening of conscience: first qualms, then fears, and finally revulsion—not for the campaign, not for their careers, but for their country. They supported McCain because they saw him, in Schmidt’s words, as a statesman and national hero running against a celebrity with no major life accomplishments. In hopes of reversing adverse poll numbers, they yoked a great man to a running mate who was not merely unworthy, but dangerous.
Some of the best acting in the film is in the looks of unspoken dread that flit about the faces of Sarah Paulson’s Wallace and Harrelson’s Schmidt as they react to Palin’s wilder and wilder provocations. What have they done? And if this campaign somehow wins—and Palin is put within reach of the presidency—what might they have done?
In addition to what has already been said, you want to know what impacted me in the LO’D video segment? The positive position consistently taken by the Republican strategists, or whatever they were. Every time I’ve seen Wallace or the Steve guy confronted with this subject they manage to wiggle around to present the campaign’s choices as reasonable and something similar to what Democrats do, or would have done. In other words, they stand behind McCain even though the evidence shows he merits some criticism. This is the ONLY thing I find remarkable about Republicans – they almost always circle their ‘leaders’ protectively.
Consider – despite the fact that Nicole realized that something was ‘off’ with Alaska Barbie, so much that SHE couldn’t bring herself to vote for her in 2008, she STILL cannot bring herself to speak negatively of McCain’s decision. Notice as Lawrence pointed out she didn’t answer why she chose not to vote for the barbie doll. Instead she did some fancy stepping to say that any politician would have acted like McCain did to galvanize the ticket. I wonder if she actually thinks her position in diligently trying to nurture this ignoramus, keeping her own mouth shut, then releasing her on the country in 2008 was okay because in the end SHE DIDN’T VOTE FOR HER?
Like some of you said above, I don’t understand why folks like Lawrence, Rachael, etc, give them the repeated forum to salvage their unpatriotic consciences. Presenting Nicole, Steve, and by extension McCain as rational, professional, and patriotic(?) strategists after the fact is slowly obliterating the fact they were none of these things during the actual campaign, and is in fact facilitating their rewrite of history. Of what use is a movie 4 years later showing us the near miss we had, when you weren’t prepared to help avert the potential disaster? Thank God there were enough discerning and patriotic souls who acted WITH THEIR VOTE in 2008!
Agreed. You’re right the reason these people keep appearing on our televisions is because no one makes them pay a price. FOX is usually the place where discredited politicians and talking heads go to rehabilitate their image. I guess MSNBC is going to allow its airwaves to help in that regard as well. I don’t know if you caught her suggesting that the choice of John Edwards as VP was also a bad choice equivalent to SP. Edwards turned out to be a sleeze in the 2008 campaign but I don’t recall any information about him being revealed in the 2004 campaign that would suggest he was as woefully unprepared as Palin. R’s are masters at the equivalency game. They always talk about personal responsibility but whenever their ox is being gored they are quick to throw a Democrat into the mix to provide them cover for their own crimes. They must receive some sort of training because they all do it and it frustrates the hell out of me when the interviewer doesn’t say we’re talking about you and your party right now not Democrats. I wish somebody anybody would have the balls to stop their nonsense in its tracks.
Good Morning….. I have been patiently waiting for this rise and shine to post this.

Rush Limbaugh Scandal Proves Contagious for Talk-Radio Advertisers
Ninety-eight major advertisers—including Ford and Geico—will no longer air spots on Premiere Networks’ ‘offensive’ programs. Insiders say the loss will rock right-wing talk radio.
Premiere Networks, which distributes Limbaugh as well as a host of other right-wing talkers, sent an email out to its affiliates early Friday listing 98 large corporations that have requested their ads appear only on “programs free of content that you know are deemed to be offensive or controversial (for example, Mark Levin, Rush Limbaugh, Tom Leykis, Michael Savage, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity).”
This is big. According to the radio-industry website Radio-Info.com, which first posted excerpts of the Premiere memo, among the 98 companies that have decided to no longer sponsor these programs are “carmakers (Ford, GM, Toyota), insurance companies (Allstate, Geico, Prudential, State Farm), and restaurants (McDonald’s, Subway).” Together, these talk-radio advertising staples represent millions of dollars in revenue.
Thank you Linda. And that’s very good news (even for John McCain).
I see finally, these advertisers are beginning to realize that hate-speech doesn’t only affect President Obama and Democrats in politics – but affects EVERYONE, of any race, color class or creed, whether they are politicians or ordinary private citizens.
Linda – Call I can say is “let it be done”. There are hundred of rightwing nut radio stations. People who listen get a steady diet of this garbage. No wonder the electorate is so ill informed. Now if only we could do something about FOX.
There’s the rub, isn’t it? This will no doubt effect the presence on the Left. Sad, but there isn’t that much money to be made on liberal talk anyway. We can barely get the bandwidth to have our voices heard.
“One voice can change a room, and if one voice can change a room, then it can change a city, and if it can change a city, it can change a state, and if it change a state, it can change a nation, and if it can change a nation, it can change the world. Your voice can change the world.”
― Barack Obama
CTGirl, I agree. Thank you Sandra for standing strong, and for representing all women so well. You made the haters and those who sponsor their hate take a giant step back, and we are a better country for it!
They say never say never. I said that Rush Limbaugh will be on hate radio forever and that american public who hates his guts could NEVER get him off the air. I really don’t want any crow pie. hehehehehe
Are we getting our wish? Do I feel the earth shaking? Are we finally see the beginning of the end of this dreadful hateful man!!!!
This may indeed be the end of his hate filled radio rants and the rest of their hate filled right wing radio shows. He pissed off the wrong voting group and now he will suffer along with KOMEN and any other man/men who feel the need to degrade women by passing anti women legislation and attacking women.
Now we need to get rid of these men in washington and around the country in govenorship and assembly and state senate and replace them with women regardless if they are Republican, Democrat or Indepenedent. Women are fed up with the disrespect and total ignorance of these imbecils.
Excellent! Why were US auto makers still advertising on Rush’s show, after he encouraged his listeners not to buy US cars so they could sock it to President Obama? And isn’t Rush the one who coined the phrase, “Government Motors”? Hopefully, their reluctance to leave Rush is chalked down to their fear of his bullying ways, and now that they’ve got the cover of numbers of defectors, they feel like they won’t be punished. This should be an example to all that this bulling problem is all over the place – from kids to Rush – and that when people stand up to a bully, they realize that the bully didn’t really have any power except the power that everyone gave to them. I hope Rush’s hate consumes him completely.
This is wonderful news, I hope this is an end to “24 hate” radio. All RW radio people do is feed off of peoples hate and and anger to make a buck then they started believing themselves after they saw how lucrative it was. We should have complained when it started and maybe there would be NO Sean Hannity, Michael Savage and Glenn Beck. I liked Tom Leykis when he first started back in the mid to late 80′s then he was taken off the air right when Bill Clinton was about to become president and again right before President Obama became president. Tom was a liberal/libertarian/capitalist but he was really good politically. Then when he came back on the air he was down on women (another serial marryer). I hated that he was teaching young men to use and disrespect young women.
I went to JCPenneys today to buy some things and told the cashiers that I was shopping more there now due to their support of Ellen when a group of people did not want her to represent Penneys. Also for their taking their advertising away from Rush Limbaugh. Both cashiers seemed happy at the remarks. Next I should email or write the company.
Our President’s Houston TX speech last night was noticed enough to even make a rec-listed diary on Old Orange. Here is a comment from a poster who said she was there in person!
// I attended the Houston speech tonight. It was incredible. First the weather in Houston was awful so Air Force One landed late and the lightning was so acute, the president could not even get off the plane immediately. Meanwhile, those of us who were at Union Station waiting for him had a long long long wait as a result… But once the president was in the room — as you can see, it was a barn burner of a speech (no teleprompter, I guarantee you — since I had a great vantage point). He got the biggest applause for references to student loans and women’s reproductive rights. He had total chemistry with us in the room, there was a lot of give and take in between him and the crowd’s response, and I am pretty sure he felt the Houston love.
But the weather did wreak havoc on a group of a dozen or so sign-wielding protesters who stood next to a nearby parking lot outside the baseball stadium. Unprepared for the windy rush-hour downpour, they left before the president’s arrival.
I think that Mother Nature loves this President. Notice that DC was spared of any major snowstorms this year so that our President could travel in and out for his campaign and fundraising activities?
Encouraging news—-getting competitive again on the jobs front—–hiring bonuses again! We always kinda reminisce and laugh in our family about when our oldest daughter graduated from college and she was wined and dined and offered increasing amounts of signing bonus money from a bunch of companies—one of which she accepted——and how times had changed. But—looks like they might be back. Also—multiple offers on home sales now—-people are starting to swarm. All Good News For Obama.
RT @metalmonster29: @BarrackObama of course. This week Nightly News reports Hiring Bonuses. We haven't seen those since Clinton!— Krystal Ball (@KrystalBall1) March 10, 2012
A friend of mine working in corporate America had been forced to take a pay cut several years ago. As of her last review a month ago, her salary has not only been restored but she got a raise and a bonus. They’re also worried she might look for another job if they don’t keep her happy. These are the signs of a good middle class economy. She and her husband are getting calls from recruiters. Actually, that started about a year ago.
Bravo! I think that when the economy really gets steam even before President Obama’s 2nd term, those corporations that stuck it to their employees or wouldn’t hire the “unwashed” unemployed will be begging for them and employees. I just hope that we remember that these corporations have no loyalty and employees shouldn’t have any for them either.
Katrina van Den Wacko has it all figured out. We all should drop what we are doing and listen to her. Everything is so simple, according to her, so why not do it!
Meh!
I think about how these crazy folks like Katrina would rather spend their time attacking the President, while having nothing to say about Mitt, Rick ,Newt, Ron and the Republican Party. It makes no sense at all, because the ones harming this country are the Republicans, the ones who want to take women back to the fifties are the Republicans, take people’s right to vote away. But yet she wants to attack the President.
Anyone who has a microphone and access to the airwaves should be spending every second of that time trying to educate people on what it means to be a Democrat/Progressive/Liberal/thinking human being. It always astounds me that these tv and radio personalities love to spend what little airtime they have bashing the one person who’s fighting to get stuff done in as progressive a way as possible. Instead, they should be trying to let people know the progress that’s been made, the benefits that individual families will get with that progress, and encourage people to fight FOR the President, instead of against him. When President Obama leaves office, the country will not be any more educated on what the difference is between the two parties, or what massive progress has been made by THIS president, or why people who want to get/stay in the middle class should NEVER vote for a Republican ever again – and that’s all because the so-called liberal pundits don’t focus on doing that outreach. Instead, they are sensationalists.
Just think of how much time MSNBC (I don’t count CNN as a liberal station – it’s FOX lite) spent amplifying the nonsense of Hannity and Palin this week, instead of using that time to spell out the advantages of the health care program, or the new program the President announced to help military families with their mortgages. How much time did all the pundits spend focusing on Limbaugh’s “two words” instead of hammering home the fact that the states have inflicted more damage on women these past two years than Limbaugh’s hate speech. How much time did any of these pundits devote to spelling out the consequences,as we know it, of any military action against Iran in terms of effort to defeat their immense military power, or in lives lost, or money to fund a complex initiative, including a potential ground war?
If they want to know why it’s so hard to pass liberal policies, they should look to themselves and the part they play in increasing the population of people clamouring for liberal policies. The more liberals there are, then the more liberal policies you’ll get. Simple.
‘If they want to know why it’s so hard to pass liberal policies, they should look to themselves and the part they play in increasing the population of people clamouring for liberal policies’
Paragraph 2 X 1000, Theo!
Sigh! Just imagine If media like MSNBC would only do their ‘programming’ in a truly balanced way how much more enlightened voters would be.!
She is a bigger disappointment than CH, as she openly stated that she is a big Obama supporter, but her show is anything but!
Yuck!
All these shows are to far left for me!
You know what? Another big disappointment with Melissa Perry show.
She now has Buddy Roemer on.
Looks like Cornell west beat her up, before she had her show, and now she is in a emoprogs shell! Another Show that is afraid to be positive about the President!
Yuck!
For real. Can’t believe she let Roemer spew such insane BS. I am so disappointed in her. She didn’t acknowledge the power of women in going after Rush Limbaugh and tried to dampen that success. I’m still trying to give her a chance….but it’s really hard.
The basic problem with all these black pundits in white world e.g Melissa,Toure,Roland, Donna Brazile and co, is that they are cowardly bending over backwards to please their white masters and audience. Believe you me MHP ‘ knows better but can’t say out loud better’!. She has been forced to tamper down,as I knew she would, and is quickly becoming irrelevant in terms of authentic outlay with the stretching of all the both sides meme.Sad really, because I put it to you that her audacity (dare I use that word with her in mind) with the stuff from before, is probably the reason she was hired, Unfortunately, we now get the limp/wimp version on display! Let’s face it,we all thought that these voices would at least lay it out there for ‘of colour’ folk, but instead they contribute zilch to that particular dialogue.
Must have missed Donna Brazile wimping out – never seen her do that. Remember several past instances of her firmly speaking her mind in the middle of opposing views on some substantial controversial issues. Rarely see her anymore – rarely watching – but just a couple of days ago slowed down in channel surfuracing for a few minutes and she was firmly pointing out to to all speakers and the moderator on a CNN show that they were failing to pay proper respect to President Obama by continually referring to him as Obama and not as President Obama.
To be honest, I turned her off when I saw Roemer. I am very disappointed to hear that she has learned nothing about engaging her Republican guests. I’ve seen Jennifer Granholm’s skills skyrocket over her first few months and I seriously can’t stomach MHP bowing down to these clowns. My husband refuses to watch her anymore because of it and he always liked her.
Oops. Missed the two other posts. I turned it off too. This is proof to me that these hosts have either precious little autonomy or precious little creative thought. Either way, she is starting to lose me.
Don’t ever get fooled by talk of “3rd party.” It’s a back door route to a Republican presidency and the maintenance of the Bush Tax Cuts. Notice all the people angling for the 3rd party are very wealthy former Wall Street investors or overpaid corporate media (Tv or blogosphere) hacks, or some politicians who are lobbied by Wall Street. You don’t hear the inner city welfare recipient talking about third party. You don’t hear the blue collar construction worker, nurse or teacher talking about 3rd party. You don’t hear the trailer park resident talking about 3rd party.
Everything that the R’s are doing is a backdoor way to defeat the president because they were terrified by the people power they saw in 2008. The voter suppression, the attempts to kill unions, the Citizen’s United, the Americans Elect nonsense–It’s all about undercutting the president’s re-election chances. That’s why what I wish most in the world is that we all overcome these ugly attempts to undermine democracy with a crushing tsunami of pro-PBO supporters in November.
He called me this morning. I gave him your link. He called back and said,”Hey that’s good news for me.” I said John isn’t it always? Then there was this awkward silence and the line went dead. Kind of like his 2008 campaign.
Just wanted to give a shout out to utaustinliberal for following up and confirming that Mattison post. I’m still trying to wrap my mind around it. There’s a lot of work to do but that tells me a potential landslide is definitely in the air. They are starting to realize the foundations the President put in place were for their own good.
Vote Republican and watch the stock market go back down to 6000. If they’re lucky.
This says it all-
The Person that brought the lawsuit against the individual mandate, has no Health insurance.
And, HC Law would actually help her out.
Unreal!!!
And do they really think any of those Republican teabaggers that egged them on care if they wind up untreated and homeless? These people have got to put aside their prejudices just once and stop working against their own interest.
MHP has been a dissappiontment. Not everyone gets this type of pulpit but she is just squandering hers with this intelletual bull crap while the retugs uses every single opportunity to further there agenda. I thought this would have been a time to use her show to confirm and push the Presidents line of thinking if she really supports her, maybe comcast have gotten hold of her and she has lost all objectivity in this atmosphere of retugs having there own channel that spew out nonsense day in day out. What a dissappiontment , even her chioces of guest tend to be republican white males go figure. I was trilled when she got her show but its been downhill since then,
I’ve never watched her show. And I’m glad I didn’t because I just don’t have time for this nonsense. It’s 2012- an election year, and you’re bringing Buddy Roemer on your show to spew Libertarian crap that this country doesn’t need.
MHP, CH, RM all belong to a class of 30-something “see how smart I am” know-it-alls, yet they are impractical as hell and use their shows to engage in time-wasting intellectual masturbation while the important issues of the day are not addressed. FAIL.
BOOYAH. Perfect description! Bless their hearts, but they’re so in love with their own faux-intellectual theories, it’s annoying. MHP turned me off with her navel-gazing analysis of “The Help.” It was ridiculous, and totally reminiscent of all the overwrought, tortured, self-important critiques I read in undergrad and beyond.
If it weren’t for these PL pundits, a lot of these jokes like Buddy Roemer, the guy from America Elects, Ron Paul reps, etc., wouldn’t even be on t.v. Nobody talked up Jon Huntsman more than Rachel Maddow. All the while, they talk about how PBO needs to be tougher with the GOP. SMDH.
I admire and respect MHP tremendously. She is an academic and is not going to be providing the types of assessment partisan parties will always be fond of. And we on tthis site are highly partisan, for good reason. If she were to sacrifice her academic integrity, she would lose the respect of her colleagues, her own self-worth, and her credibility.
MHP isn’t a mouthpiece for POTUS. While I know she supports him she’s still an independent thinker whose key themes seem to be bringing a voice to women and the under represented minority voice. MSNBC is not an extension of the Democratic Party as Fox is to the Republicans. Everybody at MSNBC is not going to be in lock step with the Dems and it is not their job to be. Heck the Democratic Party isn’t even in lock step with the Democratic Party!!
Melanie and Vicky you need to bring your calm voices to this site more often. I personally like MSNBC because I think their range is so much better then CNN and FOX.. MSNBC pundits are not ass kissers and when I don’t like a particular show or topic, I turn my television but I don’t trash the entire network and some of the best work being done to get the message out on important issues. Everybody on this site knows that if it wasn’t for Ed, Rachel, Lawrence, Martin, even Chris matthews, and others there would have been no conversation about Planned Parenthood, or Sandra Fluke..
But everyday and every morning we have to deal with the same haters on this site with the same message about MSNBC.
Yeah, it’s pretty funny seeing people expressing sincerely held opinions about media shows depicted as “haters” who are intolerant of anyone who is not a “mouthpiece for POTUS.” Um, I’m here because I’m an enthusiastic supporter of POTUS, not random media stars. Not liking seeing POTUS’ supporters attacked for having the audacity to not like some MSGOP show…
I’m a strong supporter of progressive media and have said so here many times. But in the same vein, we can criticize. I think mhp has not done a good job of pushing back her right wing guests. The right has a far larger platform to spew their lies and when they come on these shows, the hosts should call them on it.
Hey I get in all sorts of hot water here because I believe we have to support and grow progressive media even if it doesn’t always say what we want to hear. But those hosts should also be aware of how much less airtime they have than the bad guys and use their time wisely. Buddy Roemer is a ridiculous guest for mhp to give her time to.
Melanie, I agree with you that MHP is not a mouthpiece for PBO. But you do not have to be a mouthpiece for POTUS to objectively call out lies spewn on your show by these Republicans. You do not have to be a mouthpiece for POTUS to acknowledge that much of the current RW animosity towards PBO is race -based. No one is saying that MHP should come to her show wearing an “I love My President” T-shirt, or a “vote Obama/Biden 2012″ sticker on her forehead. But the least she can do is to point out where the guests are not being truthful or accurate in their narratives, and follow up with the substantive evidence/data/info to support her position.
When Chris Hayes describes Kucinich as a “liberal hero” isn’t that being a mouthpiece for Kucinich? What legislation is there that Hayes can point to that Kucinich has introduced and successfully passed that has benefited the “liberal” community? To say that Kucinich is a “liberal hero” is not an objective position – it’s a meme that Hayes is advancing with no objective evidence to back it up. So MSNBC pundits DO act as mouthpieces for various politicians when they so choose. We’re not asking them to do the same for PBO, we’re simply asking them to report the truth, and not allow their guests to get away with lies.
I did not see the Roemer piece; I changed the channel apparently like others because I had no interest in hearing him AGAIN. But I turned back because there were other parts of the show that were entertaining and informative i.e. missing Black children, 99%ers, and Biggie. I think she’s very well informed and very new to hosting her own show. I’m willing to give her a chance because I never expected her to be all Democratic all the time. When/if she annoys me I change the channel; just that simple. I didn’t see all of Chris Hayes this morning but he is entitled to his own opinion. I do not necessarily equate expressing an opinion i.e. “liberal hero” as being a mouthpiece. I do agree that when lies are being put out on a show there should be pushback from the host. I think Chris has a part at the end where he does corrections. MHP probably needs to add this to her show or at the very least blog or tweet the corrections. You are not going to agree with everything everyone on TV has to say. All in all though I think both of these shows provide forums for ideas that you aren’t going to hear on other networks. And yes I believe that both of them are supporters of POTUS and the progressive cause.
And to add: there is not a single solitary thing wrong with being an unabashed supporter of this POTUS and his policies which help millions of people in this country. I’d rather be a “mouthpiece” for POTUS than some lame media personality or some heads in the clouds politician like Kucinich who has accomplished almost nothing. Aren’t there any number of sites for people who resent Obamabots yet love purity partisans like Kucinich to happily congregate???
The problem with Melissa is that she doesn’t call out lies. She just sits their and allows her guests to spew BS. I don’t know how that is sacrificing academic integrity. Especially since she chose to become a tv host.
I don’t expect MHP to be a mouth piece for President Obama, but I do expect from her that when her guests are lying for her to bring that to their attention and not let that continue. I don’t only expect that from MHP, but from all of the pundits, reporters, anchors.
Actually, we should DEMAND that they speak the truth and not let the lies go forth unchecked. How many times does that happen? We don’t allow lies on the left so why do we allow it on the right? The folks who claim to be on our side aren’t. Plus, they are cowards.
When I’m guiding cn academic disucssion, I cannot stop every time an individual states a factural error. It would kill the conversation. No one would speak up again. I’m generally trying to get others to express their various points of view and guide them to start honing their own points of view (which Bill Moyers, for example, does brilliantly). And MOST generallly do. There are always exceptions.
MHP is engaged in something incredibly evolutionary. She is a well-educated black female hosting a two-hour program delving into issues and providing a perspective that has generally been absent from our mainstream media. She has spoken in different contexts about the many she is providing a voice for who have told her in one way or another, “Don’t shame us.” “Don’t let us down.”
I think she has the potential to make an enormous contribution to our discourse. She’s on a rocky road at the present. I am cheering for her success.
We are not talking about nitpicking here but facts that are relevant to the conversation/debate. I don’t watch any cable news shows anymore except for clips but I know how frustrating it is to watch as a HOST doesn’t call out a guest on an obvious and often huge lie. If that person does not want to speak up again then they have no business on TV or in a debate or in an adult conversation. You must know your stuff and you must back it up when challenged. And if you are constantly being called out for lying its not the host that needs to hold back, its for you to get your facts straight.
MHP is on a nationally televised political show. She is no longer in the classroom or in academia. Therefore she has an obligation to correct lies that are being advanced on her show otherwise her show is simply becomes a medium for keeping voters uninformed or misinformed about the realities of the election, the candidates, and that is a danger to our democracy. We have many shows like that already on the cable channels and we don’t need one more.
THIS! Tell it hopefruit. If MHP is such a “brilliant” academic why the hell can’t she call out lies when they are spewed with such ease. Academics are there to point out truth in the discussion and our world. What was all her education for if she gets a show on a huge network and a huge platform and allows continuous lies to go unchecked? People who critique shows aren’t “haters.” Frankly, that’s a childish and petty way to frame the debate. This is 2012 and I don’t need “politically correct academics” not correcting lies and letting their viewers – who are likely voters – stay misinformed. There’s voter suppression tactics out there and she brings on Buddy Roemer to spew a verbal diarrhea of lies for more than five minutes. Are you fucking kidding me?
Vicky, I appreciate what you’re saying but her Tv show is not a classroom. This is an interview, not an academic setting. Now,this may be exactly what she wants her show to be. But the effect is another venue for RWNJs to go unchallenged. They have massive opportunities to do that elsewhere.
I agree with your philosophy. But Buddy Roemer is not indicative of robust intellectual thinking and has been given an inordinate amount of airtime on msnbc. This is where she should have drawn the line and fought to fill her time with someone substantive.
I’m an ultra nerd and if I worship anything it’s intellectualism and the rigors and possibilities of human thought. But if someone like me is growing tired of her praising her own nerd-dom ad nauseum, then her show has a problem.
I totally agree with this analysis. By all means, bring Buddy Roemer and the rest of the GOP to present their ideas on the show, but give them a full airing, ask intelligent follow up questions that seek to clarify the consequences of those failed policies and hair-brained ideas. I mean, how many times does this country need to swallow the lie that the answer to the country’s problems are less regulation, “small government” that can fit into a woman’s uterus, lower taxes for the rich? We need intelligent people to play those scenarios out to the end, point out the consequences to regular people and their everyday lives. We’ve got an entire platform of GOP candidates spewing lies day after day, without any pushback from the media – and a population of voters who think that these lies must be true since the pathetic media doesn’t refute the lies, and the electorate is too lazy to find out the truth for themselves – or they don’t know where to look.
Personally, I think that someone who has the credibility of MHP, since she’s considered an intellectual heavyweight, does more damage when they allow the lies to go unchallenged. People expect them to know better, and to hold education of the masses as a personal mission. When she lets Buddy Roemer spew his half-truths without an ounce of pushback, then she needs to be held accountable for spreading misinformation.
never watched it, and never will. Weekend MSNBFOX is a purely bullshit emoprog masturbation station.—thanks HF—–
ps- didn’t someone here say that they were worried about her getting her own show because MHP said that she was going to go after PBO for gay rights or some such?
Her show is a little shaky and the format sucks, but she is new and will get better. The segment on the recovered child is worth the price of admission in my opinion. And the poetry of Biggie. Who else does that? And the comparison of MSNBC to FOX in ANY way is truely…mystifying.
Mitt Romney has spent the past year hammering President Obama for the nation’s high unemployment rate , and often brings up Obama’s prognosis that if the economy doesn’t recover, his would be a one-term presidency. Then Romney dead-pans: “I’m here to collect.”
But with the economic picture brightening, however slightly, Romney and other Republican presidential candidates are refining their economic attacks against the president. Deprived of the blunt-force instrument they expected to use against Obama in the general election, the GOP candidates are shifting their campaign rhetoric on the economy to some of the more touchy-feely elements of the anemic recovery.
The GOP caused the recession with their failed policies. They haven’t lifted a finger to help recover the economy that they destroyed. They’re presenting those same failed policies as the solution to the economy that they broke. They don’t understand the economy. They don’t understand business. They don’t understand people.
That’s the beginning and the end of the argument right there.
Permanently linking the campaign’s various databases in real time has become one of the major projects for Obama’s team this year. Full data integration would allow the campaign to target its online communication as sharply as it does its offline voter contact. When it comes to sensitive subjects like contraception, the campaign could rely on its extensive predictive models of individual attitudes and preferences to find friendly recipients. In the case of Cutter’s blast, that might mean pulling email addresses only for those who had identified themselves as women on their registration forms and whose voter records included a flag marking them as likely pro-abortion rights.
More broadly, Narwhal would bring new efficiency across the campaign’s operations. No longer will canvassers be dispatched to knock on the doors of people who have already volunteered to support Obama. And if a donor has given the maximum $2,500 in permitted contributions, emails will stop hitting him up for money and start asking him to volunteer instead. Those familiar with Narwhal’s development say the completion of such a technical infrastructure would also be a gift to future Democratic candidates who have struggled to organize political data that has been often arbitrarily siloed depending on which software vendor had primacy at a given moment.
True….but I think that if they can get this tool to work, all the better. I know from phone banking experience that people get irritated if they get the same calls over and over. They are ALREADY PBO supporters….this tailor made system will be able to focus like a laser on the issues and target audience in a more constructive way. If this works, good things will happen. Not just for PBO, but for Dems down the line if they’re willing to share this information with Dem candidates in coming years.
I appreciate learning about this. This kind of thinking must go on/could go on in all kinds of things. Maybe it already does. [sorry if I sound like a dinosaur here] . . . . This is so exciting.
The ” S ” in the RATS (Roberts, Alito, Thomas & Scalia ) is a lying piece of shit.
During a speech at Wesleyan University last night, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia offered a strange revision of the time he joined with four of his conservative colleagues to make George W. Bush president:
At the end of the speech, Scalia took questions from the audience. One person asked about the Bush-Gore case, where the Supreme Court had to determine the winner of the election.
“Get over it,” Scalia said of the controversy surrounding it, to laughter from the audience.“
Scalia reminded the audience it was Gore who took the election to court, and the election was going to be decided in a court anyway—either the Florida Supreme Court or the U.S. Supreme Court.
It was a long time ago, people forget…It was a 7-2 decision. It wasn’t even close,” he said.
——
Conservatives are seizing on a number in the president’s new budget, claiming it shows, once again, that the Affordable Care Act will substantially increase the deficit. They did so late last week, just as the Rush Limbaugh controversy was exploding, so few people have noticed. But it’s the type of claim sure to become a staple of Republican Party talking points. And, like so many of those claims, it appears to be very misleading.
Rush Limbaugh is at his racist/Xenophobic BS once again. This time he takes a shot at China’s President, and it is SHAMEFUL. . MHP tells me this guy is not a bigot?!?!?
I dvr ‘d all of Martin Bashir’s shows this week. Alot of folks have been singing his praises. I will give him a try sine I have written off Maddow and Matthews. Have been watching Ed with some consistency. Just waiting for him to go back to his normal self and I will be ready to pounce.
I was reading some of the comments about Melissa Harris Perry and agreed with some of you about Buddy Roehmer. I actually turned the television off for the first segment. But after changing the channel I decided to turn it back on and I’m glad I did. She had some really good segments one segment (with information on the 99er) and how employers are ( discriminating ) by out right advertising that if your are currently unemployed, you shouldn’t even bother to apply for a job with their company. She talked about the complications of being under-employed and how employers use that as a tool to try to hire workers with reduced wages. And probably the best segment was the segment about the new show on TVOne “Find Our Missing” with host S. Epatha Merkerson, formerly from Law & Order, which is about missing children of color. I know everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, I’m just glad, I decided to give the show a chance. The show is really new and I will be watching her weekly and when I don’t like a particular show, I will just turn it off for that day. (not holding Melissa to a different standard than I do for Rachel, Chris, Lawrence O, or Rev Al.) peace my friends
I agree completely with your comment. I am careful to not judge entire show by one segment. That goes for her show and CH’s show. We complain about the PL not being open-minded or tolerant or having blinders on. We must be careful to not do the same.
Well who didn’t see this coming…. You spend all your time protesting for the sake of protesting and spending most of your donated funds for bailing folks out of jail and it will leave your with very little. What a wasted opportunity this turned out to be!
Occupy Wall Street in New York running low on cash
The Occupy Wall Street group in New York is running low on money and on pace to run out by the end of the month, raising questions about the future of the movement that sparked a wave of nationwide protests against economic injustice six months ago.
Hey Donna. Maybe Keith O and MM will donate a huge chunk of dough to the movement. They were obssessed with the group. MM used the group to sell his book. Oh how about Ratigan donating?
I saw some tweets last night from OccupyLA. They were just up the road at Main and 5th, and calling for people to send them pizza. I was surprised to see they were still around. They said there were 30 of them there.
Wouldn’t it be ironic?

HAHAHA..even as the media tries to boost Romney by talking about his “victory” winning 9 more delegates, their attempt at showing a pic of him kissing a baby (who looks rather disturbed), they are FAILING!
Isn’t it funny how Romney criticizes PBO but he emulates everything that PBO does. He is trying to run his campaign exactly like PBO in 2007-08. I am sure he read Plouffe’s book through and through many times. It won’t work for him because he lacks the heart, compassion and intelligence of PBO. I am sure the baby can feel his insincerity.
Congressman Jay Inslee (D-Wash.) will announce on Saturday that he is resigning from Congress to devote time to his run for governor.
The move should allow the long-serving Washington Democrat to up his name recognition across the state, which has been one of the difficulties facing his gubernatorial campaign. The trans-continental commute from D.C. to Washington has severely limited the amount of time Inslee has been able to campaign in the state.
The announcement will leave Democrats one vote smaller in the House, but officials running the Democratic gubernatorial races are surely pleased by the move. As recently as February 14, the Seattle Times was reporting that “some Democratic operatives have been quietly agitating for Inslee to quit Congress and concentrate on campaigning full-time. Inslee has said he has no plans to do so.”
Inslee is challenging the state’s Attorney General Rob McKenna to replace Democrat Christine Gregoire, who has said she will not seek reelection. The Real Clear Politics polling average in the race has him down 6.3 percentage points, but a recent PPP poll had the two tied.
A formal announcement is set to come at 4:00 p.m. EST on Saturday from Inslee’s campaign headquarters.
It’s about freakin’ time! I run a voter id phone bank once a week and people have no idea who Inslee is. We told his campaign as much earlier this week.
Even though he worked just a few hundred feet from them for four years, Mr. Romney displayed little interest in getting to know lawmakers and never developed real relationships with most members of the Democratic-dominated body, according to interviews with two dozen current and former lawmakers of both parties and members of the governor’s staff. His approach could offer hints of how a President Romney might deal with Congress, where many members, particularly Republicans, complain that the man he is seeking to oust, President Obama, has been distant and disdainful.
Perhaps you could post them in a your new thread, and I’d like to ask the TOD family to repost on their FB pages, retweet, email to friends and family. We have got to spread the word about the GOP war on women. It’s time to fight back. We have some momentum right now, let’s leverage it. Keep building the movement.
This video is flat out awesome. Just posted it to Facebook and I wish every woman in America could see it. The GOP isn’t going to know what him them when they feel the true force of a nation of angry women. We are mad and we aren’t going to take it.
Finally got back in… I had suspended my account while I was in Australia last fall, but they found me today, Yay! Interestingly, I still get near daily emails from Barack Obama!
so, I’m not gonna be able to watch Game Change cause I ain’t got no stupid HBO.—- stupid school, stupid basic cable! So it looks like I’ll be sticking to my plan of getting the dvd.
re: “Sarah From Alaska’s Speeches.’ — when people compliment her speeches, I don’t think they view it as soaring rhetoric or brilliant pieces of history like PBO’s. I think The Quitta from Wasilla’s speeches were memorable and ‘awesome’ for many on the loony right because she seemed like a regular everyday person who wasn’t ‘corrupted’ by Washington bullshit. When she opened her mouth she sounded like a typical wive and mother. Plus she seemed sassy and driven. She was very relatable to them and so to them, her speeches were brilliant. All you had to do was train her (write her speeches) and she’d bark and bark well, until the sheep came home. When she was good, she was good….. until she wore out her welcome like day old fish.
You can get it “On Demand,” I don’t have HBO either. I ordered Tangled for my niece, it was 4.99 but she could watch it as many times as she wanted to for about two weeks or a month, I think.
I read on previous posts about the NYSE chanting “four more years” on the floor. I was hoping there would be more reports on it by the media, where it would be easy to ‘google’ about online to either view/read about this.. but I haven’t seen much on it! I was really interested in this story and hoped someone would post a link or news video of this reporting…. however, I found a link where it has been mentioned:
Such a tangible record will undoubtedly bolster President Obama’s chances for reelection while it simultaneously hands Mitt “The Jobs Creator” Romney a bigger headache to contend with in the US election campaign that any of his rivals or his previous flip-flopping on certain issues might present. On the floor of the New York Exchange this morning, immediately following the Labor Department release, chants of “four more years!” were heard by reporters
Hey TOD. You gotta love PBO and his White House team. The rightwing faux christians and bible thumpers are mad because on Wednesday, the White House gathered together “dozens of leaders of nonprofit organizations that strongly back the health law to help them coordinate plans for a prayer vigil, press conferences and other events outside the court when justices hear arguments for three days beginning March 26.” Hahahahaha…..PBO sure does love screwing with their heads. Love him! They’re all going batshit crazy that he has so much faith leaders backing him and the individual mandate portion of ACA.
Ugh—-just what we (don’t) need—–competing prayer vigils. Michele Bachmann, Pat Toomey and the Tea Party Express will be leading the other side. I’m all for speeches and interviews of those who have benefited and anyone! who can help educate the public on the details of the health care law because there has been so much false information purposely spread, but not at all fond of the prayer vigil idea—-wonder who came up with that one. We try to emphasize the importance of the separation of church and state in response to all the Santorum etc. nonsense, and then this?
I don’t mind the prayer vigil. A lot of the noise we’re hearing from the right is about how the health care law is obstructing people from being able to practice their faith, as though the right wing faux-Christians speak for all people of faith. The fact is, there’s little that is more spiritual than caring for another person, and ensuring their health and well-being. Little that is more spiritual than ensuring that those who have less can have the basic security of preserving their health and that of their children.
Those who don’t want to pray don’t need to pray. But, when some claim to speak for all people of faith, and yet they advocate leaving people to die for lack of healthcare – then we should fight fire with fire.
I am going to be praying too, ut. I am glad that President Obama’s administration called for prayer. I like that he is exercising his Christian faith. God is on his side for sure and will continue to give him and his staff the need wisdom to make things right. Our man is here for such a time as this.
So my health club visit for my walk was ruined by this nitwit, young guy, wearing a “NoBama” tee shirt. I swear I’m beginning to dislike living in my backwards state of Indiana. These folks just want to live in the dark ages. After we win Indiana for Pres Obama again, I swear I’m going to have to put a plan in place that gets me back to living in my beloved blue state of Illinois and my sweet home Chicago.
Maybe I should over look jackasses like the one wearing the Nobama tee shirt, but that makes me want to go get my Obama tee shirt and put it on, my Obama cap too.
I know just how you feel Proud. For most of my life I lived and worked in big cities and took a lot of things for granted about the level of tolerance and sophistication in a city. Then I retired to a small town backward place and have been experiencing culture shock ever since. The fear of the “other” so overwhelms people that they would suffer any harm, or any degree of personal bankruptcy to vote Republican. This is just shutting up your mind and not letting any light in. It gets very discouraging sometimes and, though it’s very much country-like here, I sometimes have to go to a city to breath fresh air.
I know exactly how your feel, PoB. My daughter and I saw the “NoBama” sign on a truck here in GA last week, and we were thoroughly disgusted. These people have no idea how much PBO has done for them, and they don’t want to know. The internals of those who voted for Gingrich last weeks shows that their main reason for voting is to “get rid of” PBO. Sheesh.
Afternoon TODville! Coming to the table late in the day, I’m hesitating, ‘dreading’ to find out all I’ve missed! So, taking a deep breath before jumping in for a brief reconnaissance, I thought I’d say ‘Hi, Y’all! How’s your Saturday?’
VC, I’m jumping in, too, late in the day. I’ve been cleaning, talking to family, and cooking and time just slipped away. It’s cold here today, but beautiful to look at. Daffodils are out everywhere and even the tulip shoots are coming up. I really want to plant some hardy pansies because nothing cheers me more than bright yellow pansies smiling at the sun.
You did the taking care of business things that I just didn’t want to do today, and now you’re just in time for us to tag off. I have to go get ready for a rare night on the town. Picking up some friends to go see a local play. As usual I don’t want to go as I’m really a don’t-leave-the -house-unless-you-have-to kind of person, but I got talked into it. Sometimes it’s easier to just say ‘O-kay, I’ll buy a ticket’ than to have to answer the phone over and over explaining that you don’t really want to go, and no you don’t really have any reason, and yes you like their company, but ….
Will check back in upon my return. Enjoy you catching up session! Toodle-di-doo to the rest of TODville!
Hi Everyone! Hope you’re all having a Saturday. Just thought I’d pop up for sec.
Watching a jawdropping 25th anniversary performance on PBS celebrating Les Miserables (musical) while I do my domestic goddess shtick today. Norm Lewis as Javert gives me shivers.
Beautiful Saturday here in K’town. I just came in from working in my yard…….such a good feeling. Now going to lie down and read some of my new book: The FOX Effect by David Brock and Ira Rabin-Havt.
I’m with you anniebella, I don’t care about Sarah Palin and everything she stands for. I can’t stand seeing her on Tv even for a minute so every time the pundits bring her on the screen regarding something she had said, I switch channel until she’s gone. I can never understand why the political media likes her so much and follow her every move, her every word is news! Urghhhhhhhh
Ages ago before twitter became as popular as it is today I used to be able to have conversations via email with Chuck Todd. I actually asked him this very question about SP. He said that the reason she was getting so much press was because she was the VP candidate for President who electrified the Republican Party in 2008. He said that SP made that campaign a race. He said that once she joined that ticket that they were able to draw thousands of supporters to McCain’s rallies and raised tons of money for the campaign. I remember saying to him well that’s well and good but the campaign is over and we won so why continue to give her so much attention and he said that after the campaign loss she became the star power in the Republican Party. He said the media had an obligation to cover her. I almost threw up in my mouth when I read that comment from him.
These people who excuse and celebrate the bile spewed by the likes of Palin and the rest of the GOP mock celebrities don’t stop to think of the damage that’s being done – much of it irrevocable. There are kids growing up right now who are seeing as their heroes and role models Palin and Limbaugh and the rest of the FOX news crew – plus the nincompoops that make up the GOP presidential candidates. They’re learning that this is what it takes to be successful, and that the kind of behavior exhibited by these people is acceptable and rewarded. In millions of dollars. There’s a whole generation of kids who will be leading the future, with the values they’ve learned from today’s GOP, the gutless media and those on the left who have a chance to make a difference, and choose to make money instead. And many of these people who excuse this bad behavior, or participate in it, have children who will have to live in that future – with the consequences.
I see Steve Schmidt lied to Politico on 9/3/08 in response to the “WHO?” reaction to the Palin pick saying she was selected after a “rigorous 6 month vetting process.” As the book and movie makes clear and confirmed by all those involved, it was a 5 day vetting process, if you can even call what they did “vetting”. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0908/13111.html
There was a producer on one of these shows yesterday who said people will watch the movie and find themselves sympathetic to Palin and all she went through. No thanks.
Santorum won Kansas, for about 23 Delegates. Ron Paul came in last with about 4 delegates.
Time to Retire, Mr Paul. Everybody, and I mean Everybody has had enough of your Libertarian views.
Actually on the HP website Santorum gets atleast 30 delegates, Myth hasn’t even broken 20% yet. I thought it a candidate doesn’t get 20%, they don’t get any at all.
I thought there was a 20% threshold to get any delegates?
Ron Paul is just building an organization for Rand in 2016. He knows darn well he cannot win anything in this election. He wants Rand to have a primetime speech at the Republican convention this summer. IMHO, It’s all about a setup for Rand in 2016.
What? And give up those matching funds courtesy of the U.S. government? You know the same one he swears to do away with every time he gets in front of a mike.
Paul has all kinds of tricks to make sure he keeps getting some of that federal gravy money. Running for President knowing full well there’s not a snowballs chance in Maldives he will ever get the nomination is just one of them.
The less you associate with some people, the more your life will improve. Any time you tolerate mediocrity in others, it increases your mediocrity. An important attribute in successful people is their impatience with negative thinking and negative acting people.
As you grow, your associates will change. Some of your friends will not want you to go on. They will want you to stay where they are… Friends that don’t help you climb will want you to crawl. Your friends will stretch your vision or choke your dream. Those that don’t increase you will eventually decrease you.
Consider this:
Never receive counsel from unproductive people. Never discuss your problems with someone incapable of contributing to the solution, because those who never succeed themselves are always first to tell you how. Not everyone has a right to speak into your life. You are certain to get the worst of the bargain when you exchange ideas with the wrong person. Don’t follow anyone who’s not going anywhere…
With some people you spend an evening: with others you invest it. Be careful where you stop to inquire for directions along the road of life. Wise is the person who fortifies his life with the right friendships. If you run with wolves, you will learn how to howl. But, if you associate with eagles, you will learn how to soar to great heights.
“A mirror reflects a man’s face, but what he is really like is shown by the kind of friends he chooses.”
The simple but true fact of life is that you become like those with whom you closely associate – for the good and the bad.
Note: Be not mistaken. This is applicable to family as well as friends. Yes…do love, appreciate and be thankful for your family, for they will always be your family no matter what. Just know that they are human first and though they are family to you, they may be a friend to someone else and will fit somewhere in the criteria above.
“In Prosperity Our Friends Know Us. In Adversity We Know Our friends.”
“Never make someone a priority when you are only an option for them.”
“If you are going to achieve excellence in big things, you develop the habit in little matters.
“Excellence is not an exception; it is a prevailing attitude…”
One thing I have noticed about the evangelical women is that when their “head of the family”, “king of the household”, hubbies are speaking they stand behind and nod their heads at everything the guys say. Watched Santorum’s wife on one side, daughter on other, looking like bobble heads. Calista does it too. I have a ex sister-in-law that did it constently–drove me crazy!!!
Will House leaders and GOP Rep. Ben Quayle suffer any embarrassment over stealing Dem Rep. Jim Hines' jobs bill and passing it off as own?— Jonathan Alter (@jonathanalter) March 10, 2012
This should be tweeted by everyone. John Boehner ranted on the House floor a couple of years ago, shouted lies and punctuating them with “hell no, you can’t” over the Affordable Care Act. Those lies and personal attack should have been stricken from the record. What Barney Frank said was totally true – but those words get erased from history? Ridiculous.

Labor unions wounded by a GOP-led war on collective-bargaining rights are plotting their revenge.
Top labor leaders say they expect to spend more than ever on both state and federal contests this year. And if recent elections are any indicator, unions could drop more than $450 million, which they reportedly doled out in the 2008 election.
I think they are trying to increase Gregory’s declining ratings by inviting Rev. Al hoping he’ll bring some of his viewers with him. Even if it worked they wouldn’t stay long.

h/t pragmaticobotsunite.com, Santorum is really from outer space, totally out to lunch:
Santorum also took on Gingrich obliquely, reminding the crowd that he and his own wife, Karen, have been married 21 years and home-schooled their seven children. On Friday, he was less subtle in drawing an implicit contrast with Gingrich’s history of marital infidelity, castigating him for sitting on a sofa next to Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco) in a TV ad calling for steps to address climate change.
“I didn’t sit on the couch with anybody,” Santorum said. “I would only sit on the couch with my wife. Period. No other women — particularly not Nancy Pelosi.”
Okay…so now, women and men can’t *sit on the same couch together* unless they’re married???? To call this guy’s views antiquated is to make an understatement. Thank God for POTUS and Ride or Die Joe and the army of their “mouthpieces” who are in unabashed support, keeping this Santorum/Romney ridiculousness out of the WH.
He’s nuts. I also saw a quote from him today where he said “Obama doesn’t know we’re in a holy war. They do.” He’s stirring up all kinds of dangerous nonsense. He’s off his rocker.
He’s ridiculous. I’m all for people being free to live how they want, and if he and his wife want to live as a retrogrades of Atilla the Hun, what do I care so long as they’re not bothering others. But as a presidential candidate on a national ticket for one of the two major political parties in this country? What a disgrace. What an utter disgrace. The GOP has fallen very low, and their moderates know it, too.

That sounds like the perfect day. I love Jamaica — spent some time in Montego Bay across from Doctor’s Cave Beach a few years ago. Paradise. Sigh.
Morning TOD and Chips. My twitter timeline is full of grits, bacon, eggs, shrimp, lobster, chicken, mashed potatoes, waffle house. Damn I’m hungry.
OH! Me too!!! I’m going to make some eggs and english muffins!!

Good morning TODville, Every one have a nice day.
dotster3
I’m not sure if anyone saw this.
Nicolle Wallace explains towards the end of the video why she could not vote for Sarah Palin.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/45755883/vp/46676748#46676748
Neither she, Steve Schmidt, John McCain nor anyone else involved in that debacle should be able to show their faces in public let alone be invited to offer their expert opinion about anything. Schmidt’s current self-serving act as the reasonable Republican is a BS move intended to regain his lost credibiltiy and respect but I am not having any of it when you consider the lasting damage and toxic environment that woman almost single-handedly brought to our political discourse and continues to do so to this day.
I am perplexed at the constant praise of her speeches….. It is not like she wrote them…..geesh….
It was already reported that the convention speech had been written in advance for a man and they changed it to make it for a woman.
Wow….I didn’t know Palin did not even bother to vote in the 2008 election….what does that say about her ?
Linda, I believe it was Nicolle Wallace who did not vote in 2008 because she could not vote for the half term governor.
THIS!
Isn’t that why the enormous voter suppression movement is going on in the tea party GOP governor states? To combat the numbers.
THIS. THIS. THIS!!
I’m with you. Who’s Sarah ?/ snark !
Am in San Antonio this weekend, just a couple of hours to Houston, that would have been cool! AND, it’s still raining!

Good morning TOD!
Linda – Call I can say is “let it be done”. There are hundred of rightwing nut radio stations. People who listen get a steady diet of this garbage. No wonder the electorate is so ill informed. Now if only we could do something about FOX.
The majority of FOX listeners wil be dead of old age in another 10 years.
Wish that were true, hope it’s true, but keep in mind they pass this stuff on to the younger folk who will be around, sad to say.
Good morning, TOD!
As long as it applies to RWNJ’s. We can’t afford to lose our small presence on the left.
There’s the rub, isn’t it? This will no doubt effect the presence on the Left. Sad, but there isn’t that much money to be made on liberal talk anyway. We can barely get the bandwidth to have our voices heard.
This is for Ms Fluke:
“One voice can change a room, and if one voice can change a room, then it can change a city, and if it can change a city, it can change a state, and if it change a state, it can change a nation, and if it can change a nation, it can change the world. Your voice can change the world.”
― Barack Obama
CTGirl, I agree. Thank you Sandra for standing strong, and for representing all women so well. You made the haters and those who sponsor their hate take a giant step back, and we are a better country for it!
Hooraaaayyyy! and Yipppppeeeee!!!!
Thanks for posting! Yes, this is a BFD.
Great news, Linda! Thank you …
#PRESSON
Thank you again Bobfr for all of your great work on Twitter. RT keeping them going.HZ
G’morning Chips & TOD! Congrats Elle on #1!
Obama 2012! Best. President. Ever. //
That is a nice comment…..but that person is wrong about the telepromter.. ( not that it matters one way or the other )
The teleprompters were probably in the back of the room.
But like you said, not that it matters!!
I saw them when he was leaving the podium…I for one am glad he uses them….they all should.
Obama 2012! Best. President. Ever. // YES YES YES! Your description brought tears to my eyes. Wish I had been there.
Good morning, everyone. I’m heading over to The Daily Beast to read the article that Linda sampled.
THIS!
Sweet. Go, Texas. Turn blue! Go UTaustinliberal. xoxo
I would not be surprised after how badly Perry embarrassed them…..
From the article…
Deterred by downpour
But the weather did wreak havoc on a group of a dozen or so sign-wielding protesters who stood next to a nearby parking lot outside the baseball stadium. Unprepared for the windy rush-hour downpour, they left before the president’s arrival.
God has such a great sense of humor
And as Obama goes, so does the country. So what’s good news for Obama is also good news for the country.
Yes! ~As Obama goes, so does the country!! ~
Lovely! That should be on a campaign bumper sticker.
Loving this!!
Chris Hayes just loves him some Dennis Kucinich. A progressive Hero, he called him!
Meh!
The CFTC person was good this morning…..
If Hayes loves Kucinich, well he can go right with Dennis Kucinich. Bye Chris Hayes and take Chris Matthews too.
What does Kucinich have to show for all his time in Congress? NADA Just like the Ron Paul – NADA
“What does Kucinich have to show for all his time in Congress?”
——————————-a lawsuit against the Congressional Cafeteria and new veneers.
oh yes! lol…groundbreaking and historical. lol..
oh yes! lol…groundbreaking and historical. lol..
Katrina van Den Wacko has it all figured out. We all should drop what we are doing and listen to her. Everything is so simple, according to her, so why not do it!
Meh!
Jovie, I have often wondered if anyone else thought she was a little strange. It is good to know others think so.
I have a category for people like her……I call them ” Limousine Liberals “
HOPE EVERYONE HAS A BEAUTIFUL SATURDAY…I’M GOING TO CATCH UP ON SOME SUNSHINE…BLESSINGS ALL..BBL!
Oh Good Grief……here comes Buddy Roemer on MHP.
Her show stinks.
She is a bigger disappointment than CH, as she openly stated that she is a big Obama supporter, but her show is anything but!
Yuck!
All these shows are to far left for me!
Me too…..both of them serve better as guests instead of hosts.
Good morning Linda and TOD. Chiming in before my chores. As per your comment, if they serve better as hosts, then they are liars. Simple.
You know what? Another big disappointment with Melissa Perry show.
She now has Buddy Roemer on.
Looks like Cornell west beat her up, before she had her show, and now she is in a emoprogs shell! Another Show that is afraid to be positive about the President!
Yuck!
I turned it off….
Me too—-it’s either boring or off course. Trying too hard to not be liberal/Dem/Obama supporter.
Exactly! Her show is a flop. Cornell West intimidated her!
Thank Goodness for Rev. Al.
Okay, MHP, Buddy Roehmer? Seriously? I am beginning to lose interest in your show.
Oops. Missed the two other posts. I turned it off too. This is proof to me that these hosts have either precious little autonomy or precious little creative thought. Either way, she is starting to lose me.
Msnbc wants a 3rd party desperately. It seems, msnbc would rather lock their arms around anyone but…
Don’t ever get fooled by talk of “3rd party.” It’s a back door route to a Republican presidency and the maintenance of the Bush Tax Cuts.
Why would she have Buddy Roehmer on her show?
I’m betting Roemer has had more airtime on msnbc than DWS. someone Ianthe front office is telling her what to do. I’m very disappointed in this show.
Speaking of the recovery, found this in a northeast TN newspaper this morning. http://www.johnsoncitypress.com/News/article.php?id=98891. Article is quite positive. Good news for John McCain.
He called me this morning. I gave him your link. He called back and said,”Hey that’s good news for me.” I said John isn’t it always? Then there was this awkward silence and the line went dead. Kind of like his 2008 campaign.
LMAO!!!!
Hi everyone.
Receiving your shout out and throwing a whoop! whoop! back atcha!
There is no rhyme or reason in bigots and racists, jovie.
I’m glad. Good for her! If that’s what it takes to bring her to be fair for once in her life – bring it on.
stupidity, thy label is republican.
FAIL.
“time-wasting intellectual masturbation”
Don’t lump us all together as “haters”. Okay?
No, I stick to my view of MSNBC haters. If I hated something so much I would never watch it which is FOX and 99% of shows on useless CNN.
THIS! THIS! THIS!
Commenting on the rubbish on Morning Joe “every morning” does not qualify one as a “hater”. Is “Michele” a username for Mika?
William, my name is Michele. The Mika joke doesn’t work with me..
Calling out lies also doesn’t make one President Obama’s mouthpiece either.
Wow, hopefruit. You said this perfectly!
Well thank goodness those who Tweet can call out MHP for not calling out the LIES on her show! Thanks, immeasurably to the Tweeter Brigade. on TOD!
“But Buddy Roemer is not indicative of robust intellectual thinking and has been given an inordinate amount of airtime on msnbc.”
- AMEN!!!
Vicky, how are you defining “academic integrity”?
never watched it, and never will.
“never watched it, and never will. Weekend MSNBFOX is a purely bullshit emoprog masturbation station.—thanks HF—–”
What you said
Mitt Romney has spent the past year hammering President Obama for the nation’s high unemployment rate , and often brings up Obama’s prognosis that if the economy doesn’t recover, his would be a one-term presidency. Then Romney dead-pans: “I’m here to collect.”
But with the economic picture brightening, however slightly, Romney and other Republican presidential candidates are refining their economic attacks against the president. Deprived of the blunt-force instrument they expected to use against Obama in the general election, the GOP candidates are shifting their campaign rhetoric on the economy to some of the more touchy-feely elements of the anemic recovery.
http://mobile.washingtonpost.com/c.jsp?item=http%3a%2f%2fwww.washingtonpost.com%2fpolitics%2fin-improving-economy-gop-sharpens-its-attack-against-obama%2f2012%2f03%2f09%2fgIQACvn21R_mobile.mobile&cid=578815
The GOP caused the recession with their failed policies. They haven’t lifted a finger to help recover the economy that they destroyed. They’re presenting those same failed policies as the solution to the economy that they broke. They don’t understand the economy. They don’t understand business. They don’t understand people.
That’s the beginning and the end of the argument right there.
http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/victory_lab/2012/02/project_narwhal_how_a_top_secret_obama_campaign_program_could_change_the_2012_race_.single.html
I always laugh when something is called ” Top Secret ” while they are reporting about it..
I appreciate learning about this. This kind of thinking must go on/could go on in all kinds of things. Maybe it already does. [sorry if I sound like a dinosaur here] . . . . This is so exciting.

I smile:) Hard!
Looks like they were just waiting for a good excuse to leave. Although there were a million of them over the years.

As a tax payer I have no problem paying for Jovie’s SS protection.

http://www.tnr.com/blog/jonathan-cohn/101504/obamacare-cost-deficit-premium-subsidies-111-billion-medicaid
Must read.
Rush Limbaugh is at his racist/Xenophobic BS once again. This time he takes a shot at China’s President, and it is SHAMEFUL. . MHP tells me this guy is not a bigot?!?!?

re: MHP. Ya know hopefruit, there’s a reason the only to cable news shows I regularly watch are Martin Beshir and Rev. Al.
Good Morning Toders, hope your all having a beautiful day.
Morning, Pamela!
Morning, 57! Just want to say I love how thoughtful you are in your comments.
Why, thank you. May I say the same to you!
Good morning all
I was reading some of the comments about Melissa Harris Perry and agreed with some of you about Buddy Roehmer.
Good Saturday Morning my TOD friends.

I would like to interject that Russell Simmons help them out as well. Occupy THIS!!
I saw some tweets last night from OccupyLA. They were just up the road at Main and 5th, and calling for people to send them pizza. I was surprised to see they were still around. They said there were 30 of them there.

YES! YES! YES! I hope that is the case.
HAHAHA..even as the media tries to boost Romney by talking about his “victory” winning 9 more delegates, their attempt at showing a pic of him kissing a baby (who looks rather disturbed), they are FAILING!
http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/romney-wins-in-northern-marianas-caucus-with-gop-chairmans-endorsement-picks-up-9-delegates/2012/03/10/gIQA9S322R_story.html
oh…that baby is adorable…..what a mop of hair….
Yes! Looks like the baby is saying, “why is the man drooling in my perfectly done hair do?”
COS, that baby looks afraid.
Myth Romney is so jealous of President Obama its ridiculous. He wishes he was as smart, charming, witty and liked by 75% of the American people.
Bwahahaha that baby is like WTF? Please come get me, mommy.

Tien le, is there a strong Dem who can run for his seat in the House and hold it for the Dems in 2012?

Even though he worked just a few hundred feet from them for four years, Mr. Romney displayed little interest in getting to know lawmakers and never developed real relationships with most members of the Democratic-dominated body, according to interviews with two dozen current and former lawmakers of both parties and members of the governor’s staff. His approach could offer hints of how a President Romney might deal with Congress, where many members, particularly Republicans, complain that the man he is seeking to oust, President Obama, has been distant and disdainful.

Hello everyone. Hi Chip. I’m trying to get folks to watch and forward on these two videos: “Too Big to Fail” http://youtu.be/EX_pW1X_Lpk and “Miss Ogyny” http://youtu.be/vEzGYXwEfP0
Thanks!
This video is flat out awesome. Just posted it to Facebook and I wish every woman in America could see it. The GOP isn’t going to know what him them when they feel the true force of a nation of angry women. We are mad and we aren’t going to take it.

Thank you Donna!

so, I’m not gonna be able to watch Game Change cause I ain’t got no stupid HBO.—- stupid school, stupid basic cable!
I don’t have HBO either…but I do have something called ” On Demand ” with my CommieCast….I think I can get it for a one time fee ?
You can get it “On Demand,” I don’t have HBO either. I ordered Tangled for my niece, it was 4.99 but she could watch it as many times as she wanted to for about two weeks or a month, I think.
I don’t have HBO either.
“CommieCast”—hahahahhahahhahhahahahhahahahahhahahhahahahahahahahhahahhahahha!!!
Good Morning TOD family..

I am with you on this…..Yuk…
I don’t mind the prayer vigil. A lot of the noise we’re hearing from the right is about how the health care law is obstructing people from being able to practice their faith, as though the right wing faux-Christians speak for all people of faith. The fact is, there’s little that is more spiritual than caring for another person, and ensuring their health and well-being. Little that is more spiritual than ensuring that those who have less can have the basic security of preserving their health and that of their children.
Those who don’t want to pray don’t need to pray. But, when some claim to speak for all people of faith, and yet they advocate leaving people to die for lack of healthcare – then we should fight fire with fire.
thanks, UT.

Love it when the faith leaders show up powerfully.
Sorry, just had to vent.
of POB, sorry about the dumbass in the stupid shirt.
Just wear your Obama 2012 shirt and balance is restored.
Sheesh.
Thanks everyone for understanding. I will be wearing my Obama 2012 shirt to the health club from here on out.
I need a Fix !!!
Linda, AL Green sounds good at any time, any place, anywhere . I imagine POTUS singing this song to FLOTUS
Oh my goodness I just teared up watching this. Wow!
THANKS FOR ‘THE FIX!’…THIS COMPLETED MY SATURDAY!…:)
Hi Jackie G!
I’ll be back later to catch up. Love and light!!
Hey y’all.. Lunchtime! Too many comments to scroll through with a low battery on my phone.. It’s a good day, not great, but not dreadful!
Urghhhhhhhh
Because she is the defacto leader of the tea party. CNN practically made her, and then she got a job at Fox, they must have been pissed! Lol!
Maybe they were vetting other candidates? Romney gave them 22 years of his tax returns to look at…..and they picked Palin anyway….
I do have HBO and I have absolutely no plans on watching “Game Change” AT ALL.
I think is ironic that of all the people who has a movie made of their life from 2008′s historic election is Sara “Da Grifta” Palin…
Plus the book was written by Dick Halperin and I refuse to even give him or it any support.
BTW, Santorum wins Kansas caucus.
Agreed. I could care less.
It’s supposed to be a hitpiece on her! She is pissed, calling it fact change!
Lorraine, that’s my understanding as well.
Thank you Donna. Well, Myth has finally passed 20%, although he might lose that by the end of the tally, I hope.
Actually it works to Santorum’s benefit if Mitt Romney breaks 20%. Don’t ask me why but a strange rule exists to that effect.
Rand Paul—-that’s a pipe dream too. He’s a weirdo.

Hiya df. Here’s a bit of my response:
Colin Powell
Yeah, ok. Yard. You ain’t an intellectual. OKAY, whatever….
I read a lot.
Spot on!!
I remember reading the original “Stepford Wives” many, many years ago. Would woulda thought…….
Barney Frank Gets Benched After House Floor Spat With GOP (VIDEO)
This should be tweeted by everyone. John Boehner ranted on the House floor a couple of years ago, shouted lies and punctuating them with “hell no, you can’t” over the Affordable Care Act. Those lies and personal attack should have been stricken from the record. What Barney Frank said was totally true – but those words get erased from history? Ridiculous.
Another one bites the dust. S.C. Lt. Gov.—Repub of course— pleads guilty to criminal charges and resigns in disgrace. Gov. Nikki Haley called him “good people”.

She was in Florida partying with the Club for Growth when he resign…..I guess she threw him under the bus.
Amen.
Keep, Keep Marchin. Keep Marchin’ ON!!!
I LOVE MY PRESIDENT!!!
Labor unions wounded by a GOP-led war on collective-bargaining rights are plotting their revenge.
Top labor leaders say they expect to spend more than ever on both state and federal contests this year. And if recent elections are any indicator, unions could drop more than $450 million, which they reportedly doled out in the 2008 election.
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0312/73826.html
I think Labor will spend half a billion, because they feel threatened!
They better – there’s a lot at stake. Their very lives depend on it.
Good! I love seeing this. Thanks, Jovie.

GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally someone who can put GOPGregory in his place. I miss Tim Russert so much
I think they are trying to increase Gregory’s declining ratings by inviting Rev. Al hoping he’ll bring some of his viewers with him. Even if it worked they wouldn’t stay long.

h/t pragmaticobotsunite.com, Santorum is really from outer space, totally out to lunch:

Ricky may not know this but he has more in common with some Muslim masjids, where men and women have to pray apart. Sshh, don’t tell him.
Thank you, Linda. I needed that fix……..Let’s Stay Together will do it everytome for me.
