the enthusiasm gap: atlanta

March 16, 2012

Also from yesterday …. this one completely cracked me up:

That’s how steady my camera would be too. :???:

And this one:

It’s just a pity all the enthusiasm is gone. Oh well.

I know. I swear they work hard everyday to come up with this nonsense narrative. I was thinking the other day that our ground game is going to be massive. Makes me wonder if Mitt is doing any prep, not that I care.

I went to a women’s group meeting the other day in my town. There was an OFA rep there telling us about what they are doing and how we can help. Young girl, but she was full of energy.

In this our red district, we are going to be doing our part to bring it.

Oh good for you Africa! I think you can really persuade a lot of women on just this issue alone. I have a friend in Chicago who often votes Republican or Independent and is totally PBO all the way because of the GOP War on Women.

Why am I bouncing up and down in my seat happy for the people who are seeing the motorcade for the first time? I’m just as happy for them as I was when I saw him for the first time. Oh yeah, there is no enthusiasm there at all. Like people have nothing better to do on a BEEE YOU TEE FUL!!!! day but to hang out on the sidewalk and wait for a motorcade. NOTHING BETTER TO DO??? Yeah, okay, right…

I cracked up when the one guy said “I never thought I’d be acting like this” Then he screamed “I saw the President of the United States!!” I am so happy for them. I have to remember how spoiled we have been here in Philadelphia and on the east coast. I’ve shaken his hand 7 — SEVEN!!!! — times.

        Thanks, hopefruit2,

But you gotta remember, when he was running in ’07 and early ’08, people still didn’t think he could win. The crowds were big, but they weren’t totally crazy, like they are now. Plus, I was a volunteer team leader, so we would alway volunteer to work any event where the president was speaking. I shook his hand 3 times as a candidate. Once when he was President-Elect when he left out of Philadelphia to take the train to pick up VPBiden in Delaware on their way to Washington. And then he’s been in Philadelphia alot for fundraisers and such. I’ve shaken his hand 3 times as President. I got my son in on the last one when he came to a suburb of Philadelphia to speak at a Head Start program.

And if it wasn’t for Chica, our marvelous Chipsticks, blog mistress extraordinaire, I wouldn’t never have had a picture of that moment!!

As hard as he works for me and you and everyone (even the haters), I figure the least that I can do is shake his hand and say “Thank you, Mr. President!!”

Got that right. Just listening to Lloyd Cummings here on WURDam and he’s saying that the more the haters go after PBO, the better he becomes. Lloyd said ” I love that man” :-D I have a buddy who has a store in Reading Terminal, from the islands like Lloyd, and he assured me once when I was worried about PBO, that with the hardships, it would make him even better. My son’s godfather said the same exact thing, so I continue to draw strength from the pronouncements of these 3 fine men to keep me in acordance with PBO and all he has had to/has to confront.

As I said in a different comment, after I signed in — about a week ago now –I don’t sign out. I just turn off the computer. When I turn it back on, I just click the TOD link in the toolbar, and it opens. I’m already signed in.

Hoping it stays that way, that’s why the whisper. Must say though that I occasionally open TOD on the Explorer browser at the same time, but when I did this yesterday and tried to post from there the laptop was giving me attitude because my email address was already being used. It may not be true, but it’s a very realistic portrayal of what Mitt would say. Right now he’s down in Puerto Rico pandering to the people ro their delegates while at the same time dissing Justice Sotomayor. Meanwhile, his and the Ron Paul Campaign are colluding on how to manipulate the MO caucus votes tonight. It’s disgusting but EVERYTHING about this man is FAKE. I’m not sure how people in the media can feel good about themselves promoting a disaster like Romney as a presidential candidate. It’s as bad as promoting Sarah Palin – and possibly worse.

You know, the president could make a joke like that and it would make the audience laugh — it’s all in the delivery. And he can deliver anything beautifully.

And in the deliverer, Joan! Don’t forget. People can generally sense the ‘heart’ of a person, and most sensible people know that PBO has a good heart. Willard, on the other hand , has yet to reveal any goodness in his heart for the American people.

          March 17, 2012 at 6:44 pm

There are a lot of similarities between the two. I had asssumed he was smart but I don’t think that anymore. Afterall, how smart do you have to be to steal from unsuspecting people and companies and destroy everything you touch?. He is the male version of Sarah Palin.

          1. They both lie everytime they open their mouths.
          2. They both fall into word salads where you have no idea what they are talking about or what it means.
          3. Gaffe-prone
          4. She quit her job as governor and he may as well have quit because he did not run for re-election.
          5. They are both very secretive. She stalled for as long as she could releasing her emails. He bought new computers so his emails would never see the light of day.
          6. They have both decided they will not answer reporters questions but will just spout talking points.
          7. They both tried to avoid the media for as long as possible and finally just talked to FOX.
          8. They are both driven by greed and blind ambition.
          9. They are both jealous of and obsessed with PBO. When they should be talking about policy and the future of the country, they instead use every media or speech opportunity to lie about PBO’s policies and disparage or mock him.
          10. They will both lose to PBO and never be President.

Feel free to add more. That is all.

They both have a cruelty streak, particularly when it comes to animals. Robotic Ken strapped his dog to the roof of his car. Caribou Barbie shot animals from a helicopter. How one treats animals I think speaks volumes about their character (or lack thereof). Contrast that with PBO and his beloved BO! One could go on and on, but I think the last one on your list L3 covers it in a nutshell:

“10. They will both lose to PBO and never be President.” WORD!

Co-Sign! I did volunteer animal rescue & fostering for years. Maybe it is being judgmental but I do look at the way people treat animals & judge them accordingly. I’ve seen various forms of cruelty & neglect to the fur children & you might be surprised at those guilty of it. Not all are ignorant or hoarders, some are quite well off & ‘educated’ but they are also selfish & thoughtless. Most don’t realize that taking on the care of an animal is a lifetime (for the pet) commitment. I always wonder how these people treat their children & family when no one is looking.

co-sign to your co-sign ag911! I got my beloved cocker spaniel (may she RIP) from a shelter after she had been turned in by a “wonderful heartbroken family that could no longer afford to keep her”. When I took her to the vet shortly after I got her because she seemed to be having hip problems, the vet initially tried to accuse me of abusing her; she apparently had been kicked alot in her hips by her former “heartbroken family” . It takes alot to get me angry but this was one of those instances where that blinding red rage just descended. To this day I don’t even really remember what I said to the vet, but I know that I went off on him because he apologized when I “came to”. Just makes me angry all over again.

Speaking of Romney, Hf, I am going to disagree with you that ‘EVERYTHING about this man is FAKE’. IMO, we may not like him, but he very often reveals his true self. Sure it’s a ‘fake’ self when compared to other genuine people, yet it’s the REAL Romney. At least I think it is. I tried to remind people of some of Romney’s values today on Twitter…. so he won’t be judged unfairly. ;)

These videos just warms my heart.

It’s funny, when it started looking like the Republican primary was going to drag on, GOP strategists were saying that as with the “08” primary between Hillary and Obama that the longer race made the president a better candidate, and as with this president, Romney will emerge a stronger candidate for the general. But, oh how that analogy has turned on his head.

Oh man just looking back and thinking of that hard fought primary, they were like two intellectual heavy weight champions and the longer the battle went on, the more emotionally invested people became with both candidates. Even though I was behind the president all the way, I will say that Hillary has really impressed me with her loyalty to the president, and I have really grown to admire her.

I don’t know if there will ever be another primary race like that in my life time, but thank God, I was alive to witness it.

Agreed! I was for Obama from the get go but I would have supported Hillary all the way & been proud to have her as our first female President if she had won the nomination. She’s been a stellar SOC. Both were strong Dem candidates with the creds to be President. These GOP are a sad disgusting bunch of ignorant goatfiggers.

I agree the difference between the Democrats 2008 and the Republicans 2012, is both of our candidates were qualified, and had common sense. Those GOP candidates scare the hell out of anyone with any common sense. I am willing to bet a lot of Republicans are very disappointed in Mitt, Newt, Santorum. The Republicans might not be saying it before the camera, but they are saying it behind the camera.I know they are asking the question Is this the best we can do.

I felt exactly the same way, Aquagranny! I also had very high respect for both Senators Joe Biden and John Edwards as well as Governor Bill Richardson. in addition to Senators Clinton and Obama, I would have enthusiastically supported any of the other three if they had been nominated. Obviously, in hindsight, John Edwards’ personal indiscretions would have created problems. But compared to these GOP nitwits, the 2008 field of Democratic candidates was very impressive.

President Obama’s statement on the death of Coptic Pope Shenouda III

Michelle and I are saddened to learn of the passing of Coptic Christian Pope Shenouda III, a beloved leader of Egypt’s Coptic Christians and an advocate for tolerance and religious dialogue. We stand alongside Coptic Christians and Egyptians as they honor his contributions in support of peace and cooperation.

We will remember Pope Shenouda III as a man of deep faith, a leader of a great faith, and an advocate for unity and reconciliation. His commitment to Egypt’s national unity is also a testament to what can be accomplished when people of all religions and creeds work together. On behalf of the American people, we extend our thoughts and prayers to Coptic Christians, Egyptians, and all those who mourn Pope Shenouda III today.

PBO thanked his “good friend” Oprah Winfrey

President Obama on Friday thanked his “good friend” Oprah Winfrey for being an early endorser who got Americans to support him, just as they buy the books and skin cream she recommends.

At a fundraiser at the Atlanta home of movie and TV mogul Tyler Perry — a close friend of Winfrey’s — called out the former talk show host, who was in the audience, by name.

“And then, there is my good friend, Oprah, who very early on, when I was still running, just decided that she would support this guy with a name that nobody could pronounce. And just like books and skin cream, when Oprah decides she likes you, then other people like you, too,” he said to laughter.

“And she has continued to be just — not just a friend, but somebody who Michelle and I seek out in thinking about not just the day to day issues of the day but trying to keep our focus on the big picture. And what she’s done for so many people, not just in America but around the world, is extraordinary. So I just want to say thank you to Oprah.”

OK, I’ll print some of the parts:

Don’t tread on me? It is confirmed today that it was Tea Party leader Michael Kobulnicky who was arrested Thursday in San Diego for the alleged brutal kidnapping and rape of a 56 year old woman.

According to East County Magazine, Michael John Kobulnicky is accused of offering a woman a ride on February 25, but instead of taking her home, he drove to secluded island, pulled the victim out of the vehicle, sexually assaulted her, and left her in the sand. San Diego Police Lt. Andra Brown said, “He dragged her out of the car and sexually assaulted her pretty brutally.”

Kobulnicky, the public relations director for the San Diego Tea Party, is also the former regional director of the Southern California Conservative Party. …

In light of the conservatives’ war on women, events such as the arrest of a self-proclaimed Christian Tea Party leader for the alleged rape and kidnapping of a woman only add to the growing perception that the Right does not support women’s rights, and may, in fact, see American “liberty” as only pertaining to white men.

While it’s certainly not fair to paint a movement with the actions of one person, this is hardly the first incidence of violence against women coming from the Right. For example, we recall the curb stomping of a petite woman’s head and neck at a Rand Paul rally. Taken together with legislation aimed at redefining rape, stripping away the few protections and resources for battered women, making miscarriage illegal, criminalizing abortion even in the case of rape, incest and when the mother’s life is at stake, removing women’s choice over their medical care, imposing a state-mandated trans vaginal probe, and much, much more, it becomes clear that the Right is not well. …

These and other incidents beg the question, exactly what kind of people does this movement attract? What sort of people call themselves a Christian while they beat their wives or rape women. How much anger at women does it take to beat your wife and rape a 56 year old stranger, and how much anger and disrespect for women does it take to suggest that women should have no say in whether they get medical care to save their own life?

It could be coincidental, but it appears to be the almost inevitable and most disturbing result of the belief that women shouldn’t have certain rights over their bodies. And from this woman’s point of view, it appears that many of the Tea Party leaders are supporting and pushing legislation and opposing the Violence Against Women Act, all of which make it easier for perpetrators to get away with heinous acts of hate against women.

Why else would they be “redefining” rape? Apparently the “American way of life” doesn’t include women’s rights or liberty for women.

    “Contention, confusion mar Missouri caucuses”

A police officer also helped hush the crowd during recounts at a caucus at a Christian school in St. Louis County, where Santorum began the day at a rally with about 100 people. Local Republican leaders who organized the caucus supported Santorum, but Talent — who lives in the township — helped lead a spirited push for Romney.

“We need a dynamic, vigorous, strong, decisive executive leader, and my experience with Mitt Romney — having gotten to know him over the last four years— is that is exactly what he is,” Talent told the caucus.

Then township committeewoman Judy Hon took the microphone, telling the crowd that Romney supporters had teamed up with Paul’s camp on their slate of delegates. She decried Paul as not being “pro-life” and suggested he had been endorsed by the “Muslim Brotherhood.”

Okay friends, I have time to share the links from my FB “friend.” Most are from Investors Business Daily. I checked it out first and seems it is part of NewsBusters so we don’t need to know any more, right? I do want to share the links so here goes. I will also include what this guy wrote with the link.

    http://news.investors.com/article/604403/201203141851/new-warning-about-fiscal-danger-ahead.htm.

http://news.investors.com/article/604400/201203141851/cbo-obamacare-cost-double-obama-vow.htm. He wrote: “Needs to be stopped.”
The next one I could not find but title is: CBO exposes Obama’s $2T budget slight of hand. He wrote: “Out of control.”
And, the last one:http://news.investors.com/article/604572/201203161014/rod-blagojevich-prison-obama.htm. He wrote: “Expect a presidential pardon.”

I would appreicate it if many of you read these and give me your thoughts. I am probably not even going to respond. I do plan on doing a status update, mostly about my day at the Evangelism Conference and talk about how thankful I am to be part of a church that talks the talk and walks the walk of hope over fear, love over hate, diversity, getting out of our comfort zones and loving our neighbor, being servants, not volunteers, etc.

I am interested in your feedback though. Thanks!

    • March 17, 2012 at 8:02 pm

Tnmtngirl, I very quickly looked at the links – the first two are editorials, so I don’t know who wrote them, but once the writer blamed America’s woes on “Big Government” and then went on to quote the Heritage Foundation (!), that was enough. It said all we need to know about his/her ideology.

The last article was written by the bigot that is Andrew Malcom, a Palin groupie and a pathological liar – http://www.salon.com/2010/11/22/hack_list_28/

Life’s too short to be reading this stuff, to be honest. If people are inclined to believe this stuff, then they’re unlikely to ever consider supporting PBO. I wouldn’t worry about them.

PS You weren’t to know Tnmtngirl, but please no more links to Andrew Malcolm! Thanks.

tnmtngirl, I’m not interested in reading anything from willfully ignorant folks. ObamaCares is not going anywhere. It is constitutional, cost effective and it will be upheld by the courts. Further, more people are seeing its benefits because they are experiencing it on a personal level. I know exactly what the CBO reports are saying which is not what your FB “friend” and this bogus article are claiming. That’s all I need to know.

I think it would be best if you kept these article links off this site. They are full of RW propaganda and fear-mongering based on lies and nothing else.

I partially read the first 2 articles, and whenever I read something that has an immediate negative tone, I am suspect of any truths therein. I am sure that with research, anyone here and myself can find a flip side to these allegations. As you’ve noted, consider the source. I read a comment in a local freebie Metro with this kind of rhetoric. In fact, I plan to do more reading as we all have to be well-armed to confront all the obstruction up ahead. Already this evening, listening to talk radio, one caller and the host both support PBO, but the caller stated he has been coming across young men who say they may not vote. This election is going to be a hard road when it comes to convincing some AA men that PBO is their best hope. They, IMO, are politically immature and have not glanced at the entire scope of the political scene today, and they, along with too many doubters, have put PBO on an impossible plane to enhance their lives, immediately. The caller and host both offered that if too many sit this one out, we will have hell to pay with rethugs in office.

      • March 17, 2012 at 8:12 pm

Thanks, friends. As I said, I don’t plan on responding in any way except my positive and hope-filled status update–which I just did. I know this guy is narrow-minded and filled with hate and fear and would never even believe anything I shared anyway so I’m not wasting my time. I know he is posting it to “get under my skin”. Won’t give him the satisfaction of acknowledging him. The other good thing about posting that I was at an Evangelism Conference all day lets him think I didn’t even see them. :) That they had “fallen off” my FB page.

        • March 17, 2012 at 8:21 pm

Forgot to add this. During one of our breaks today, I stood in the hallway and talked with our Senior Pastor. (Good strong Dem) He came to our church from Chattanooga–Bob Corker hometown. He has been friends w/Corker for many years. He said he has written him a number of letters in the past year or so…..telling him that he has a great opportunity to be a moderate Republican and really distinguish himself as a leader and statesman in the Senate. Obviously, it hasn’t worked real well. True, Alexander and Corker are not like DeMint, Graham, McCain and some of the other crazies, but it is obvious they don’t have the COURAGE to step out and do the right thing for the country. They still almost always vote with the party line.

Carolyn, that first video is so funny! And, to think that Obama is a politician that just happens to be the President… And people are so excited to see him. Now the kids in SW ATL will know that you do not have to be an athlete or entertainer to be cool. This one event will make their minds dream bigger dreams. “Yes They Can!”

Thanks Chips for posting these videos.

Carolyn, as you eloquently state … “I thought about how even five years ago that scene would not have been possible. ….. I am so grateful to have lived long enough to see this! Like our President, I am going to believe in the essential goodness of the majority of people.”

He has transformed the spirit of America, profoundly, these past 5 years. For me, the essence of #RoadTraveled is his unbounded empathy for each person. As I’ve watched the video, the combination of the music, Tom Hanks’ voice/narration and the actions of our President the power of his empathy simply overwhelms my emotions.

Doubt if Tom Hanks will ever see it, but as with Tyler Perry yesterday evening, one of the really cool things about Twitter is that it enables you to thank people who you’ll never meet or otherwise have an opportunity to express your gratitude.

@RolandMartin: I am not sure what President Obama has to do with this. Why tweet the President?

SANFORD, Fla. — Police have released audio 911 tapes in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, the unarmed teenager allegedly killed by a neighborhood watch captain while walking home from a store.

In eight chilling recordings, made the night of February 26, listeners can hear the frightened voices of neighbors calling to report screams for help, gunfire and then that someone was dead.

In perhaps the most disturbing of the recordings, a frightened voice cries out for help and pleads “No! No!” and then continues to wail.

And for the first time, we hear the voice of George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch captain who admitted to police that he shot Martin, who was walking home from a convenience store to his father’s home in the gated community. Zimmerman has not been arrested or charged in the shooting.

If you go to this link you can hear what the police Zimmerman to do before he shot the kid:

The case has drawn national attention and has outraged many residents of Sanford, a town about 20 miles north of Orlando, particularly in the African-American community.

I don’t think this case is going to go away anytime soon. Something really bad happened here, and if you listen to the two recording it’s hard for people to understand why the shooter is still walking free. The kid was visiting his father and went to the store to get some candy for his younger brother at halftime of the NBA All Star Game. When he was walking back home, this man approached him and ended up killing him. The police told his parents that their child (age 17) was not armed and had nothing but some candy and can of ice tea in his pocket…. If it was my child, I know how I would feel, and how I would fight until my very last breath for justice…And, I pray for this family and all involved…that one day the truth comes out, much sooner than later..

Besides the issue of racism, the other thing that disturbs me is this culture of “old west gunslingers” which allows some to appoint themselves as keepers of “law & order” with no official standing or training. My understanding is that this Zimmerman creep had no real official capacity in that complex, that he had ‘appointed’ himself as neighborhood watch & that he may have had some special “in” with local police. In other words a wannabe. Such people can be really dangerous because they don’t follow procedure & they don’t follow orders which seems evident here.

This is a horrible situation which should not only be focused on race but the true idiocy of our gun laws.

please be clear the context of why Roland is tweeting @BarackObama. He’s saying that POTUS personally should step into this FL case ala Skipp Gates…NOT DOJ, but POTUS himself.

Roland is being all Tavis Smiley and making it the case that POTUS isn’t speaking up, but he NEEDS to.

He’s calling out people for not covering this story, but notice he is NOT calling out CNN directly and I’m pretty sure CNN has not done much if any coverage at all.

The focus needs to be on Travyon Matin NOT POTUS!

All good points. As tragic as this story is and it is very tragic. Every issue doesn’t rise to the level of POTUS involvement. It’s frustrating that people seem to think it does. There are plenty of crimes happening in every state of the country and why do people leap their local governments and governors and want POTUS to intervene?

The Right Rev. Roland Martin is a fraud. You don’t hunt mice with an elephant gun. He needs to go rub noses with Travesty and Cornie.

Bravo, yardarm! I appreciate the way you use humor to expose fraudulent people who, instead of rolling up their designer suit sleeves to tackle problems, spend time trying to make President Obama the one who should do everything. It isn’t as if the President doesn’t have enough tough problems on his plate to deal with.
