The President is a class act. Most mortal men wouldn’t be seen with those two but he put politics aside and walked with them. Is that the Irish first lady in the backgound? They were so noice to the Obamas on their visit to Ireland.

AL, AZ, IN, KY, LA, MT, NV, NH, OK, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, WA state, and of course FL. I hope states have 2nd thoughts on this law to make the person prove that they were in fear of their lives in order not to be convicted of murder since the person they killed can no longer speak for themselves.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Permits for homebuilding neared a 3.5-year high in February, suggesting a budding recovery in the housing market was still on track even though groundbreaking activity slipped.

New building permits surged 5.1 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 717,000 units last month, the highest since October 2008, the Commerce Department said on Tuesday.

The jump in permits, which exceeded economists’ expectations for an advance to a 690,000-unit pace, reinforced views the housing market was improving and that home building would add to economic growth this year for the first time since 2005.

It is recovering. I moved into a new low/median income building and new buildings are going up all over Harlem. Most of the high rent condos are empty. People are afraid of Harlem I guess and middle class and poor can’t afford the high rent/mortgages. If they would build them for working middle class that would be good. Too many people are priced out of the market because they make too much or too little.

Tweet and Goatee Man are trying to convince us that Willard “fixes things”. He’s a fixer, alright, wants to fix what ain’t broken. Wants to fix things for his corporate BFFs. Hardball crew was twisting in a pretzel trying to convince themselves and viewers that even tho Willard doesn’t appear to have a heart or soul, he’s a “pragmatist” and “what’s wrong with that?” Chuck T asked, he’s a real fixer and that’s all well and good. Thanks guys, check is in the mail.

hmmmmmm—Andrea Mitchell had a 9/11 widow and former Fl. Sen. Bob Graham on her program who are still pushing ——and convinced about—the Saudi connection to 9/11——say they have proof of financial support to hijackers in San Diego area. I know Bob Graham was involved with a Fl. connection too—–where a Saudi family disappeared like poof on 9/11 from their upscale home in Tampa area—-left all furniture, cars, clothes, food, kid toys floating in pool.

Since I just got here, and read the previous thread, I want to comment on those favorability ratings of our precious FLOTUS and Laura Bush. I was never polled…LB would not have gotten a favorability from me. She was empty with nothing to give.
My sister who was a diehard GWB fan…..if you can believe it…..read some things about her that were supposed to be favorable…..and laughed. I was appalled. According to what my sister heard from people in the Bush campaign, (she worked closely in it in 2000) Laura did hardly any of the rearing of the girls. Barbara was the disciplinarian and guide. Laura just laughed, sat on the porch smoked and read novels. She truly could not be bothered. My sister had a few choice quotes from her that appalled me. She just laughed.
My husband, the psychologist, said she is the enabling wife of a sociopath husband, who just sits and smiles as long as he’s bringing in the money and her life is undisturbed. We had a good friend here like that. Her husband was disgusting, few of us could see how she stood him. BUT, he had MUCH money and she got to live in a wonderful style. She took her girlfriends all sorts of places…opera,Europe…..he stayed home and drank. The only thing they participated in together were antique car rallies, so she could wear beautiful vintage clothes, and yes. REPUBLICAN party affairs. Laura is the same type. She won’t leave, she won’t DO anything, as long as she has enough money and comfort. Our kids in Dallas hear things about them, but that would be all hearsay. Suffice it to say, they are not flattering.

      March 20, 2012 at 5:37 pm

Well if Barbara was doing most of the rearing then they turned out pretty good. The Bush girls seem nice and I thought that was because they got it from their mother. Laura definitely seems like she’ll overlook almost everything to have her and her children live a certain lifestyle.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) sought to overcome a potential filibuster on a motion to create a conference committee for the STOCK Act on Tuesday by abandoning the Senate-passed version of the bill and filing a cloture motion to concur with the House-passed version.

I didn’t either, but I wasn’t paying close attention—–I tend to tune out Tweety more often than not. I just heard them talking about how all the moderates are gone from the Repub Party, that it’s a Strom Thurmond style conservative party now. But then we knew that.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said Tuesday he does not plan to schedule a Senate vote on a short-term extension of the highway bill.

House GOP leaders plan to move a short-term funding bill for highway measures before current funding expires on March 31, but Reid said he wants the House to pick up the two-year bill approved in a bipartisan Senate vote.

Asked if he would schedule another vote on a short-term extension if the House sends one over to the Senate, Reid said: “I plan not to do that.

“Millions of people depend on the [Senate] highway bill to pass in the House but House leadership needs a permission slip for everything from the Tea Party,” Reid said.

now that Elizabeth warren is leading in polls again, hopefully people will remember not to get too worked up when they go up and down, which they will again for sure. Warren is a great candidate who is following PBO’s model of grassroots, and she could make a great contender for 2016 in my opinion. latest from PPP, which has proven one of the better polling outfits:

Two top executives at Susan G. Komen for the Cure have announced their resignation, amid reports that the breast cancer charity is struggling to raise money and repair its reputation after its decision to defund Planned Parenthood and subsequent reversal.

Katrina McGhee, Komen’s executive vice president and chief marketing officer, privately announced several weeks ago that she will be stepping down on May 4, and Dara Richardson-Heron, CEO of Komen’s New York City affiliate, announced her resignation on Tuesday. Both cited “personal” reasons and declined to elaborate

The Little Rock Municipal Airport Commission voted unanimously on Tuesday to rename the Little Rock National Airport in honor of two of Arkansas’s most well-known exports, former President Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

“Bill and Hillary Clinton not only devoted years of service to Arkansas, but have served the nation as a two-term President, and as First Lady, U.S. Senator, and Secretary of State — that’s a legacy of which all Arkansans can be proud,” Jim Dailey, chairman of the airport commission, said in a statement. “The Clintons continue to have a major impact on our state and our local economy, and we believe renaming our airport in their honor is a fitting way to recognize their service and their position in Arkansas and our nation’s history.”

Last April, President Barack Obama announced the launch of the National Clean Fleets Partnership — an initiative to reduce the country’s dependence on imported oil. Less than a year later, the partnership has grown to include 18 of the nation’s largest private-sector fleets.

Collectively, the Clean Fleets Partners operate more than a million commercial vehicles nationwide, accounting for more than 12 percent of all commercial vehicles on American roads. By adopting alternative fuels, advanced vehicles, and by making their operations smarter and more fuel-efficient, these national partners are increasing their competitiveness and helping to reduce the nation’s dependence on foreign oil.

A new study mapping out habitats in and around the waters off New York was released on Tuesday, bringing the state a step closer to determining the potential for wind energy projects offshore.

The study is the product of a two-year joint effort by New York’s Department of State and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to identify critical bird and fish habitats to ensure that they are not harmed by future wind farms. Environmental groups say the pre-screening will help save time and red tape and could attract developers and investors to wind projects by removing uncertainties about the environmental impacts at a given site.

Like New Jersey and other states along the Atlantic Coast, New York is seeking to take advantage of its geography to introduce offshore wind farms and significantly increase the amount of renewable power in its energy mix. New York officials have been working on identifying the most viable locations for the wind farms by surveying large swaths of the ocean with an eye toward protecting commercial shipping and fishing as well as ecological niches.

The ultimate goal, state officials said, is to protect places that are important to New York’s existing ocean industries while harnessing offshore renewable energy resources.

Paul Ryan’s budget: Should the poor pay for deficit reduction?
Posted by Ezra Klein at 11:23 AM ET, 03/20/2012

Here’s the basic outline of House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan’s 2013 budget in one sentence: Ryan’s budget funds trillions of dollars in tax cuts, defense spending and deficit reduction by cutting deeply into health-care programs and income supports for the poor.

At the end of his initial release, Ryan posts a table comparing his budget to the president’s budget. The single largest difference is in the tax section: Ryan raises $2 trillion less in revenue than the White House does. In the president’s budget, those revenues come mostly from increasing taxes on the wealthy. So that’s the first big gap between the two proposals: Under Ryan’s budget, revenue would be lower, and the distribution of taxes more regressive, than under Obama’s budget.

On the spending side, Ryan’s biggest cuts come from health-care programs. He eliminates the $1.5 trillion that the Affordable Care Act uses to purchase health insurance for 30 million Americans. Then he cuts Medicaid and related health programs by $770 billion — which is to say, by about a third. Medicare takes $200 billion in cuts on top of that. This graph from the Congressional Budget Office’s analysis of Ryan’s budget tells the story:

    ………………………………

So Ryan’s budget ultimately poses two questions: First, whether this amount of deficit reduction is actually necessary. It’s more substantial, I believe, than what’s called for in Simpson-Bowles. And second, if you do consider this amount of deficit reduction necessary, whether the right way to achieve it is almost solely by cutting programs for the poor.
