        Thanks Chips! The Prez looks quiet and shy there just like me! Might I be able to request one pic? I love the pic of PBO looking in the window talking to the preschool kids who are looking out. That is my favorite!

        I love these throwback photos, especially the black and white ones. B/W photos tend to highlight the more subtle nuances of the subject(s) in the frame. I like the quietness of this one. :)

          From the third article excerpt below the photo: “It’s always easier to organize people around tribe than around principle.” – BO, 1995. Our politics summed up in one short sentence. He has always seen clearly, but with hope that we can be better and always working toward that end.

          I do now, thanks to you, JamilaJP! In my opinion, Barack (the Grace of God) Hussein Obama was always a very good looking young man, but as he ages so gracefully, his handsomeness is heightened even more by the strength of his deep conviction and his ability to remain inclusive against heinous opposition. He grows more and more handsome each day!

      An indication he won’t be involved in any brokering, or stepping forward now that brokering is unlikely? They are all such cowards – can’t move unless they feel sure of the outcome. So unlike my President who works with what he has while laying a foundation which FACILITATES victory.

        Santorum or Newt should put out an ad in the upcoming states with this ridiculous comment, it just shows how phony Mittens is. If the gop won’t do it, then the DNC should.

        • March 22, 2012 at 7:27 am

          This remark just told all the far right wing base that Romney isn’t serious about any of the extreme positions he has taken.
          I believe Santorum’s people were handing out Etch-A-Sketches at a recent campaign event. I would not want the Democrats to do this at the convention though.

    Jeb Bush calling all Republican to unite to defeat this President is ludicrous. I can’t wait for President Obama to start campaigning to remind the American people the mess George Bush left this country in and what it’s taking to get us out of it. Man, this is a fight I’m so itching to have. These Republicans think it will be a cake walk to defeating our President, but they have another thing coming. WE WILL NOT GO DOWN WITHOUT A FIGHT, AND FIGHT WE MUST!!

    Transport union slams Ryan budget

    By Keith Laing
    A key transportation union said Tuesday that the budget produced by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) Tuesday that would cut $5.3 trillion in spending over the next decade would devastate the national transportation system.

    The Washington-based AFL-CIO’s Transportation Trades Department (TTD) said Ryan’s budget would reduce transportation spending from $88.6 billion in the 2012 fiscal year to $57.1 billion in 2013. By comparison, President Obama’s budget proposal called for spending nearly $80 billion annually on road and transit projects.

    TTD President Ed Wytkind said the difference showed the Ryan budget was bad for transportation.

    “The Ryan budget resolution released today is the worst for transportation that we have ever seen,” Wytkind said in a written statement. “It not only turns a blind eye toward programs that would create millions of middle-class jobs, help seniors and assist the most vulnerable in American society, it also leaves our transportation system in a state of ruin.”

    ROMNEY: NEGATIVITY, HALF-TRUTHS, AND LIES ABOUT PRESIDENT OBAMA

    Mitt Romney Wins Illinois and Lies His Ass Off About President Obama

    By: Jason Easley

    ==============================

    Mitt Romney’s master plan for winning the presidency appears centered around repeating as many lies about President Obama as often as possible. This plan is easy to implement when a shape shifting moderate is trying wow an audience that already despises the current president, but it will be interesting to see how Romney’s Kamikaze campaign of negativity will fare when he has try it out against a broader electorate that personally likes this president.

    Mitt Romney’s entire campaign isn’t based on any concrete notion of positive change that he would bring to the nation. The entire premise for his campaign to be elected president appears to be based on negativity, half-truths, and lies about President Obama.

    The fact that Romney has chosen to go down this path speaks volumes about the lack of substance behind the man, and the superficiality of his campaign.

    Romney: Teachers Can’t Be President

    BY Bob Cesca

    =============================

    Yes, your Republican Party. Turning “taught constitutional law” into a bad thing.

    And by the way, Mr. Romney, the president has kicked ass on the economy even though he was merely a constitutional scholar.

    =============================

    http://bobcesca.com/blog-archives/2012/03/romney-teachers-cant-be-president.html

    • March 21, 2012 at 12:50 pm

      So, let me get this straight – the GOP House started off the session bleating about the Constitution and demanding that (parts of) it be read into record on the House Floor. They even went so far as to enact rules that dictated that everything they passed had to refer to a Constitutional mandate in the legislation – even though they haven’t followed this rule in any of the job-killing, back-breaking, rights-dissolving nonsense that they’ve put forward. Their sheepish followers claim they want the government and the President to “follow the Constitution”.

      But – their front-runner and all their so-called “leaders” ridicule the fact that the current President once taught their beloved Constitution in law school – before actually becoming a legislator and ultimately the only person in the country who signed bills into Federal Law, per the Constitution.

      You can’t make this stuff up.

    Texas Democratic State Sen. Wendy Davis’ Fort Worth Office Firebombed

    FORT WORTH — Police are trying to identify the man who entered the West 7th office of State Sen. Wendy Davis Tuesday afternoon and threw two firebombs just outside the door.

    Two staffers were in the third floor office when the attack occurred around 4 o’clock. One of them had to leap over the flames to escape, then went to the break room, grabbed an extinguisher and put out the fire.

    Investigators said Sen. Davis was not in the office at the time of the incident, but was at her law office closer to downtown Fort Worth.

    A staffer told News 8 the Democratic lawmaker was alerted about what happened and that security at Davis’ other local office was tightened as a result.

    No one was hurt, but the lawmaker’s office was damaged by the fire.

    A maintenance worker chased the suspect, according to witnesses.

    The Fort Worth Fire Department Arson/Bomb Squad was investigating the attack and trying to identify the man behind the attack.

    MALJAMAR, N.M. (AP) — President Barack Obama plans to visit New Mexico’s petroleum fields on federal lands outside of Maljamar Wednesday to tout the fact that domestic oil and gas production has increased each year he has been in office.

    The White House said in a news release that the stop will “highlight the Administration’s commitment to expanding domestic oil and gas production.” Oil production is at an eight-year high and natural gas output is at an all-time high, it said.

    GAME CHANGE MEMORABLE QUOTE – ‘CONSTITUTIONAL LAW PROFESSOR’

    According to Mitt Romney, being a constitutional law professor is a bad thing. I think Steve Schmidt would disagree.

    ——————————————————

    Rick Davis: Listen, I too wish that the American people would choose the future Abraham Lincoln or Thomas Jefferson, but unfortunately, that’s not the way it works anymore. Now it takes movie-star charisma to get elected President, and Obama and Palin, that’s what they are – they’re stars.

    Steve Schmidt: Primary difference being Sarah Palin can’t name a Supreme Court decision, whereas Barack Obama was a constitutional law professor.

    Rick Davis: F**k you.

    I argued this very thing over at the Political Wire yesterday, as Teagan Goddard was pushing this same memo that the deficit has EXPLODED under PBO! I was livid, and sent links to show him how ludicrous his false comparisons were.

    • March 21, 2012 at 12:56 pm

      They need to point to the specific spending that they think the President has done that has exploded the deficit. There’s no feasible way that the President could have spent the money that was added to the deficit at the beginning of his term. It’s clear where he added the trillion as a result of the Stimulus to recover the economy that the GOP broke. That money has already been paid off – and more. It’s also a matter of record that he added the Bush deficit items that previously didn’t appear on the books: 2 wars, Medicare Part D, tax cuts. It’s also clear that the payback of the bank bailout – initiated under Bush – only started after President Obama took office (it flew out the window with no intention or plan for payback when Bush handed the money out). The auto bailout has been almost completely paid back.

      So – can the GOP point to any other line items that they think belong to the President? No. They can’t.

      She was on one of the MSNBC shows last night – I think it was either Ed or Martin. I was wondering who she was, then when they showed her name, I tuned out. If I need someone with no political experience to offer some political analysis – I’ll call my 14 year old niece. She’s more tuned in. Same goes for Megan McCain – I don’t know if she’s ever held down a job. At least Chelsea Clinton has worked, travelled, gone to University and earned a degree, travelled with her awesome mother to humanitarian events and crises – and even she only gets half an ear from me.

    THE DISHONESTY OF MARK KNOLLER (CBS)

    BY Steve Benen

    ===================================

    CBS News’ Mark Knoller published an item this week, arguing that President Obama has added more to the national debt in three years than President George W. Bush did in eight years. The piece proved to be wildly popular with conservatives, which is a shame — Knoller’s piece is misleading and largely inaccurate.

      The dishonesty of Mark Knoller (CBS) is my opinion. The Steve Benen title for this post is “THE NATURE OF DEBT COMPARISONS”

    • March 21, 2012 at 12:37 pm

      I’m glad to see Knoller being called out. I still follow him on Twitter, just to keep an eye on him & yesterday he tweeted that POTUS would be making this trip today touting his energy stance.. while gas prices continue to rise. Inferring that POTUS is responsible for gas prices. Knoller shouldn’t be allowed to report on POTUS while consistently showing his bias for all things republican.

    • March 21, 2012 at 1:27 pm

      He was called on this a year ago, 6 months ago…….

      Now it is true that keeping the Bush tax cuts past the point that CBO was allowed to score them was going to balloon the deficit. It is why I was willing to take the hit to the middle class in order to jettison them when they were supposed to run out. I understand the rationale for keeping them for the middle class, but this was a trap laid by Republicans when they were first enacted. The full effect of the Bush tax cuts on the long term deficit was hidden (as were the war expenditures, etc.). I know the chart that people refer to, but I’m not entirely sure how that all works.

      That would be any of the GOP. They have no clue.

      • March 21, 2012 at 1:08 pm

        and after viewing “Game Change”, it’s evident they have no intention of having a clue. Its all about winning the title, the power of the office, they have no intention of ‘governing’ for the people, by the people, of the people. I’ll never forget John McCain’s willingness to put the likes of Palin into such a position, her ignorance, racism, hatefullness full bore on the people of this country.. that is the entire GOP in a ‘nut’shell.. Romney, Santorum, Gingrich- are exactly the same.

          • March 21, 2012 at 3:00 pm

            Yeah, I just don’t understand how so many young people are being hoodwinked into supporting Ron Paul, whose policies will literally destroy their future. They’ll live behind a 100ft fence surrounding the country to keep any danger out – and behind that fence will be a 200 ft fence put up by the rest of the world to keep the anarchy within the future US borders from spilling out into other parts of the world. They won’t have roads or bridges or lights or water or health care or education – because the govt won’t actually exist to serve the public. They’ll be ignorant that a world actually exists beyond the 100ft fence, because they’ll have disengaged from the rest of the world’s institutions. They’ll carry around pieces of gold in wheelbarrows, since the US dollar will cease to exist or have any value, and they’ll carry unlimited supplies of bullets in little backpacks to protect themselves and their gold (since there’ll be no laws or police).

            But, they’ll be high as kites. And, the Fed won’t exist.

    • March 21, 2012 at 1:30 pm

      If Republicans have their way, we’ll be returning to the 19th century when there were bank crashes every decade or so. It wasn’t under FDR that the cowboy mentality was reined in with laws that protected us until 1999. The Phil Gramm bill may have been veto-proof but I do not recall Bill Clinton being the least bit unhappy with that deregulation.

      • March 21, 2012 at 3:02 pm

        Speaking of deregulation under Bill Clinton, I saw last night on twitter that Robert Reich was crowing about being drafted by the Americans Elect people. And also tweeting about needing to regulate Wall Street. I tweeted a question to him and his little followers asking whether he was the same Robert Reich that was part of the Clinton Administration that helped to deregulate Wall Street in the 90′s. No response.

        You are too generous to the Republicans, 57andfemale! Some Republicans, like Rick Santorum, want to return the country to the medieval period when the Church was in total control of people’s lives. Perhaps this explains why Republicans, like Santorum and Romney, “disdain” college education.

    • March 21, 2012 at 3:08 pm

      I don’t know how these Republicans still are allowed to call themselves Americans and patriots. Given that we’ve all seen the inner workings of the McCain campaign and how they put this world’s very existence in danger with their blind ambition and support of Palin, one would hope that they’ve learned their lesson and are sufficiently chastised and ashamed. Clearly, they’re incapable of either. This Jeb Bush endorsement, totally unnecessary, shows the complete lack of judgement and uncaring quest for power that embodies any member of the GOP. It’s highly irresponsible for them to back a worthless candidate when there are so many serious problems to solve, and the country has stiff competition for the future and so much to catch up on after years of neglect – plus the added threats around the globe as nations are destabilizing and looking for direction.These people are dangerous. I wish everyone in the world who will be impacted by the actions of the United States could vote in US elections – we might have a stronger shot at survival. As it is – 45% of the electorate is clueless, apathetic, bigoted or power hungry.

      Call the number and ask what Mitt Romney’s plan for 50,000,000 uninsured and many more under-insured Americans is. Ask if Mitt Romney will say in public exactly which provisions he is against: no lifetime caps, closing the donut hole for seniors and giving them free check-ups and screenings every year. what does he plan for people with preexisting conditions? What is his plan if someone loses his job?

      Is he in favor of the death panels that happen every day in every health insurance company, when they take premiums for years and years and then spend that money to find a way to deny you the care you paid for?

      Ask what part of the ‘choices’ that will be available through the exchanges he is against. Ask why an employer should decide what health care you get instead of affordable health care through the exchanges. Ask him if he has a plan if the only insurance you can afford is 50% of the your yearly income, and it still doesn’t cover the care for your preexisting condition. When I was insured there was a restriction against anything to do with my pulmonary system because I had asthma. I had a lawyer tell me that if I got hit by a truck and punctured a lung, they would deny me care. Is that what Mitt Romney wants for Americans?

      Tell them that ‘freedom’ is not an answer if Americans are not ‘free’ enough to afford adequate health care.

        Perfect! And when Mitt says we should only have a state solution and not a federal solution, then ask him why none of the states except Vermont has actually tried to propose a competing health care law, as requested by the President when he promised to grant waivers if a state could cover as many people for the same or less costs. They have no solutions – they just want to destroy. Didn’t the President talk about those kind of people in his inaugural address?

        • March 21, 2012 at 3:23 pm

          The truth is that Romneycare actually has some significant differences with Obamacare. I heard an interview with some Massachusetts constituents a few weeks ago who were discussing the details of Romneycare. Apparently, when Governor Deval Patrick came along, the costs of healthcare were rising in Mass. because there were no cost cutting measures in the law. When Mitt runs away from claiming the law, it’s probaby because he didn’t actually leave the state with a decent, practical law. It took Governor Patrick to do that. So, why should the President have called Romney for advice when he had access to someone who actually knew something about writing an effective health reform bill that works for the people and works to cut the rising cost of health care? Link below – it’s only five minutes.

    Frank Rich on the National Circus: Why Romney Is So Ripe for Parody

    By Frank Rich

    ================================

    Almost everyone agrees that Romney locked up the nomination after his Illinois blowout. Why is no one in the GOP celebrating beyond Mitt’s wife and sons?

    It is weird. I think the fact remains that he excites no one and there’s a sinking sense in his party that if the economy continues to improve (and even Romney is now saying it is), it has a candidate who is both pure wood and bereft of a message. Even the loyal Republican Bill Kristol said of last night’s victory speech that it “consisted basically of the claim that the business of America is business” and that “he’s a businessman who understands business.” Not only is that an empty and increasingly dated pitch, but it also reveals that Romney somehow thinks he’s survived the attacks on his Bain career when in reality they have only just begun and he’s never figured out how to counter them.

    ================================

      I am starting to think Mute Robeme wants to lose the nominee so he won’t have to run against an incumbent. Mute is acting like he either does not want to work too hard or wants the presidency because it’s owed to him. I just don’t get his strategy. That advisor should be fired since he like to fire people.

    • March 21, 2012 at 3:30 pm

      I’ve heard the GOP talking heads say that Romney’s been inoculated on the Bain attacks, but that’s just not true. Romney made his millions by making money. He didn’t run any companies, and he didn’t build anything. He didn’t even create Bain Capital! And he had to have assurances that he’d never be exposed as a failure.

      Contrast that with President Obama, who made his money by writing a book that informed and educated millions/billions around the world. He also worked as a civil rights lawyer, he worked in the State Assembly and the Senate to improve the prison system and improve the levels of non-proliferation of nukes in the world.

      And that doesn’t even go to a record by record comparison of these two men. With Romney’s so-called “business expertise”, he was 47th out of 50 in job creation, and his only other experience was in firing people for money. President Obama has created an environment that created nearly 4 million jobs – nationwide.

      I can’t wait for the general election!

    Mitt Romney As Etch A Sketch

    By Jonathan Chait

    ====================

    There are two problems here. First, he’s giving the game away way too early. Of course Romney is going to try to reposition himself toward the center. But he’s in the process of convincing conservatives he’s really with them. Fred Barnes, in a column praising Romney, writes today, “His plan was to run as a moderate but govern (I think) as a conservative. He’s abandoned the moderate mask and positioned himself firmly in the conservative camp.” That was the plan – persuade conservatives that they’re in on the con. Now Romney will give them grounds to wonder if they’re the suckers. It’s okay to do that after you’ve sewn up the nomination, but not while conservatives can still make your life difficult.

    Second, Romney’s campaign suffers from a general problem of failing to hide its cynicism.

    =====================

      You can bet that Santorum will make hay with this remark in the upcoming primaries, specially LA, WI and PA. This may well inspire his base to outperform Romney’s. Not enough to keep Romney from the nomination, but enough to have Romney give PBO’s campaign more fodder for their ads.

    DAVID AXELROD WEIGHS IN ON THE ROMNEY ETCH-A-SKETCH STRATEGY

    The Problem With Mitt Romney’s ‘Etch A Sketch’ Strategy

    ================================

    But bad analogy aside, using the Etch-A-Sketch parallel, suggests that Fehrnstrom wants us to forget some of the things about the nomination process. Unfortunately, we, unlike Etch-A-Sketches, can’t simply erase comments about the Cadillacs, not caring about poor people, and NASCAR owners. But the biggest problem with this gaffe may be that it’s just way too easy connecting Romney’s flip-flopping reputation to this flip-flopping toy. David Axelrod, take it away:

        In an interview with the Washington Times, former Texas Sen. Phil Gramm termed the current economic slowdown “a mental recession.”

        He added: “We may have a recession; we haven’t had one yet.”

        And then he showed why his own presidential bid in 1996 quickly crashed and burned, calling the United States “a nation of whiners.”

    So, the Senste bill is Dead?-

    House Republicans on Wednesday indicated that they would move a bill extending federal transportation authorization for three months, giving them more time to work on a longer-term extension.

    “Tomorrow, I will introduce a short-term extension through June 30 to ensure continuity of current programs while I and House Republicans continue to work toward a responsible transportation bill that provides long-term certainty, reduces the size of government, eliminates earmarks and is fully paid for,” House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman John Mica (R-Fla.) said.

    • March 21, 2012 at 3:43 pm

      This is really disappointing. The Senate bill had finally passed a bill that would give a little long term certainty to the transportation industry. Aren’t these losers in the GOP House the same ones accusing the President of creating uncertainty for businesses? Well, what do they call these two week/month extensions that they’ve done for absolutely everything? I hope they get squashed in the election and the rest of the country can start moving forward again.

    Ha! President Obama is clobbering Mittens in Massachusetts. New PPP poll.

    While Romney is becoming less popular in Massachusetts, Barack Obama’s numbers there are on the rise. 57% of voters now approve of him to 38% who disapprove. That +19 spread is up 15 points from when we last polled the state in September when he was at 49/45. In a head to head between the two Obama leads Romney 58-35, a margin almost matching his 26 point margin of victory over John McCain in the state in 2008. Most notably Obama is winning over more Republicans (11%) than Romney is Democrats (7%).
    Romney might not make Massachusetts competitive, but he at least does better than any of his fellow candidates. Ron Paul comes the next closest to Obama but still trails by 28 points at 58-30. Rick Santorum faces a 32 point deficit at 61-29, and Newt Gingrich does the worst of the Republicans with a 34 point gap at 62-28.

      Hillary supporters need to move on with their damn lives and get over it. Hillary got her butt kicked in ’08 and her political career is done. After POTUS is done, I’d like to see either Elizabeth Warren or Gov. O’Malley as the Dem nominee. Not Hillary! I am as sick of the Clintons as I am of the Bushes. Both families are nothing but drama. If Jeb becomes President, we won’t have a middle class anymore. And if Hillary becomes President, we’ll have to deal with their pathetic marriage and Bill Clinton’s bimbo eruptions. I’m sick of both families!

      • March 21, 2012 at 3:05 pm

        Not to mention Bill’s declining health. In all seriousness, Bill is not looking like he can handle even one month worth of stress in the White House, let alone four more years after he did eight years as our President.

    Paul Ryan, the poor and the “insidious moral tipping point”

    MORAL FIBER

    By Ed Kilgore

    =====================

    It takes a lot these days to get the jaded and cynical Washington observer Dana Milbank angry. Paul Ryan managed easily to do so during his remarks on his budget plan at a friendly American Enterprise Institute audience today. After outlining the details of the Ryan budget, Milbank observed with rising bile:
    .
    .
    You know, much as I dislike the viral adolescent-intoxicating legacy of Ayn Rand—you know, the author of Atlas Shrugged, the book Paul Ryan used to (or for all I know, still does) require his staff to read—at least she had the honesty to disclaim any pity for the poor. Indeed, she called altruism the one great moral abomination, as bad as “looting.” I’d have a lot more respect for Paul Ryan if he loudly and proudly embraced the “virtue of selfishness” himself, and didn’t pretend he wanted to cut food stamps in order to improve the lives of the working poor through some character-building hunger.

    DOJ: Florida Voting Restrictions May Discriminate Intentionally

    ===============================

    New Florida laws that place harsh restrictions on third-party voter registration groups and limit the early voting period may have been passed with a discriminatory intent, lawyers with the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division suggested in a court filing on Tuesday.

    DOJ told the court that the federal government’s position was that Florida “has not met its burden of proof” in demonstrating that “the proposed voting changes neither have the purpose nor will have the effect of denying or abridging the right to vote on the basis of race, color, or membership in a language minority group.”

    Progress! Things are heating for Syria. Russia and China are final on board with UN Security Council actions. Sanctions have even been placed on Assad’s wife — no shopping for her in EU countries.

    ————————-
    U.N. unites on Syria, sanctions set for Assad’s wife
    http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/03/21/us-syria-idUSBRE8280G820120321

    (Reuters) – The U.N. Security Council, including Russia and China, threw its weight on Wednesday behind efforts by Kofi Annan to end the bloody conflict in Syria, providing a rare moment of global unity in the face of the year-long crisis.

    In a statement approved by all its 15 members, the council threatened Syria with unspecified “further steps” if it failed to comply with Annan’s peace plan, which calls for a ceasefire and demands swift access for aid agencies.

    Although the original statement was diluted at Russia’s demand, editing out any specific ultimatums, the fact that all world powers signed up to the proposal dealt a serious blow to President Bashar al-Assad as he battles a popular uprising.

    “To President Assad and his regime we say, along with the rest of the international community: take this path, commit to it, or face increasing pressure and isolation,” U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said in Washington.

    Adding to the pressure, European Union governments are set to impose sanctions against Syrian Assad’s wife Asma on Friday, EU diplomats said, meaning that she will no longer be able to travel to the EU or buy from EU-based shops, in her own name.

    The sanctions, which still need formal approval from ministers, come after the British-born former investment banker became the focus of media attention when a trove of emails obtained by Britain’s Guardian newspaper appeared to show her spending tens of thousands of dollars on internet shopping sprees while Syria descended into bloodletting.

    At least 8,000 people have died in the revolt, according to U.N. figures. Violence has intensified in recent weeks as pro-government forces bombard rebel towns and villages, looking to sweep their lightly armed opponents out of their strongholds… [more in the article]

    We might as well be prepared to hear some crap from Repugs about this… MSM will, of course, fail to mention that the President’s escalated troop levels ended up being a comprise, tens of thousands fewer than what their side wanted to send. Anyone out there got numbers and timelines?

    Obama’s first foreign policy blunder
    http://blogs.reuters.com/great-debate/2012/03/20/obamas-first-foreign-policy-blunder/
    This is an excerpt from The Emergency State: America’s Pursuit of Absolute Security at All Costs, published recently by Penguin Press.

    The defining mistake of Obama’s first-term foreign policy was his decision to escalate American military operations in Afghanistan. There were 35,000 American troops in Afghanistan when Obama was inaugurated. By the summer of 2011 there were roughly 100,000. The main national security rationale for their presence was to prevent the Taliban from regaining sufficient strength to invite Al Qaeda back to the Afghan training camps and sanctuaries they had operated from before 9/11. But since early 2002, seven years before Obama became president, Al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden himself — until he was tracked down and killed by U.S. commandos in May 2011 — had been based in Pakistan, under the protection of a Pakistani army that continues to receive billions of dollars in American military aid.

    • March 21, 2012 at 4:38 pm

      We should be able to debate this without making it a serious blow to the President but we can no longer have those kinds of substantive debates. that’s so pathetic.

  70. March 21, 2012 at 4:03 pm

    Ugh,

    what gets me with all of Mittens gaffes is that even though he’s a horrible campaigner, he’s still gonna probably get at least 40-45% of the vote in November just from the anti-Obama front alone. Ugh. And actually he might just be able to “etch a sketch” his way to November, with the help of the MSM and voters who really ARE NOT paying attention right now. Funny enough, the people paying the most attention is our side, NOT the other side or much of the middle. So yeah, there is actually a possibility that 45% of voters will just be that gullible or that filled with hatred of the Dem party and POTUS to buoy Romney along.

    Ugh.

    THE RYAN-ROMNEY “PATH TO POVERTY” BUDGET

    Faith Leaders Blast House GOP Budget As ‘Immoral Disaster’ That ‘Robs The Poor’

    =================================

    Father Thomas Kelly, a Catholic priest and constituent of Ryan’s, felt similarly:

    “As a constituent of Congressman Ryan and a Catholic priest, I’m disappointed by his cruel budget plan and outraged that he defends it on moral grounds. Ryan is Catholic, and he knows that justice for the poor and economic fairness are core elements of our church’s social teaching. It’s shameful that he disregarded these principles in his budget.”

    That the GOP cuts vital programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and other safety net programs while giving tax breaks to the richest Americans is “immoral” and “unconscionable,” other leaders said. “The poor are not statistics,” Rabbi Jackie Moline said. “Whatever one thinks of Congressman Ryan’s ideas, it is unimaginable to look into the face of a child who would go hungry without government assistance and say, ‘Sorry — we need to reduce the deficit.’”
