Mitt has came out in support of very radical policies. There is no way he can slide to the middle. Anne won’t be able to help him either. Her husband is on record basically saying women shouln’t even have rights. Mitt

Mo’nin’, TODers!!! YES!!!! There he goes aGAIN!!! Quotin’ the Koran. And, don’t all Imam’s make their points using that vocal rhythm that we hear him fallin’ into??? And, that” call and response” presentation between he and the assemblage? That’s an oooooold Muslim tradition that is known as “havin’ Chu’ch” on FULL display. Indeed…..the mask was BOUND to come off. Just needed enough time. Riiiiight about here is where the “eye roll” should be placed. This man has been and continues to be just pheNOMinal. Ms. Chip and errr’body have a better one today.

I’m reading the book now. I am impressed. It has some criticisms but of all the books coming out from progressives, this is an important one and the criticisms are more instructive of the process and in my opinion, are not damaging in any way. David Corn could easily be a whiny-leftie, so his actual reporting and actual glowing respect for the President is very welcome. He flat out says that the book is written for the whiny-left (my term, of course) to show what PBO was up against and the kind of mind, heart and leadership he possesses.

I have not finished it but I’m glad I bought it. I bought Bill Press’ book too (downloaded to the kindle). When I have more time to do recreational reading I’ll give a ‘book report’ to the TOD family. So far, though, I’m impressed.

    • April 4, 2012 at 12:34 pm

I’m reading this now – and wholeheartedly agree. I follow politics (and Pres. Obama) closely, but knew little about the “rest of the story,” or what was going on behind-the-scenes. This book is making me appreciate Obama all the more.

I’m learning that when I have become frustrated, especially when it didn’t seem the President was as active as I would have liked, or as outspoken, there was a reason. He’s done it his way and with his own method (that isn’t obvious to pundits — or opponents). Such as in lying low, in a sense, and getting Ryan and the Tea Partiers (2011) to commit to their agenda while he was deliberately strategizing …. Boehner really backed out and disappointed him during the debt crises. Horribly dishonorable. But Boehner’s weaknesses are obvious in the book as well — nothing new.

I’ve just finished chapter 8 on Libya and the Arab Spring. I need to backtrack a bit here. Samantha Power is one of my heroines. Her prizewinning tome on genocide, “The Problem from Hell,” is one of the most substantive and important books I’ve ever read. It was her references to and chapter on Gen. Wesley Clark that helped re-engage this disillusioned old Democrat-turned-Independent into political activism again. I wholeheartedly supported Clark’s presidential campaign and was deeply disappointed when Kerry triumphed in the early primaries and caucuses. I did support and work for Kerry, but not with the same “hopey-changey” fervor. The highlights of his convention were his speeches along with Clark’s and this new phenome, Barack Obama. Kerry would have been a good president – and, in my opinion, was cheated by the cons in Ohio.

I knew Samantha Power was involved in the Obama administration. Reading Corn’s book I’ve learned how and why. When in the Senate, Obama read Power’s book and invited her to come and talk to him. After a two-hour discussion, she joined his Senate staff. She’d earlier been a supporterr and adviser to Clark. The two men have much in common though they represent two different generations. And those are the things I admire most about both of them.

President Obama asked Power to fly to Oslo with him aboard Air Force One when he went to receive the Peace Prize. She worked with him on his acceptance speech. She and Susan Rice have important voices in his administration. Both have been imortant in his consideration of foreign policy. This information has been one of the “hidden gems” I’ve discovered in this book.

Though many Clarkies supported Hillary Clinton in 2008, I was an Obamabot from the beginning. One has to be to stand outside in below zero weather in northern Wisconsin to see the man in February!

This, by the way, is Vicky — I’ve lost my identity on WordPress…… LOL

I am reading “Showdown” now, and it is great reading. David Corn did a very nice job. All of us who watch POB, listen to him, and have read his books and David Plouffe’s book will truly appreciate the contents of “Showdown.”

I am enjoying my reading. I just received a copy of “The Obama Hate Machine” by Bill Press, and that book is also an interesting read.

Also reading “Grace and Grit” by Lilly Ledbetter. Very good story.

I love how we share what some of us in our TOD Family are reading in our time while still working for our wonderful POB.

OT: I am also predicting a 6-3 vote on the ACA. Just saying.

Thanks Chips for our beautiful haven of intellect, compassion, and loving respect for our POB and each TOD family member here.

Shout out to Joan, Desertflower, Fred, and Obama Grandmama, tnmtngirl’s mother, Quiet Observer’s dad, and all of our TOD family members who are dealing with physical medical situations. (((((((((((((((((((((((Healing Peace and Strength To All))))))))))))))))))))))HZ

11:30 eastern, comedy central. Colbert may be the most brilliant political commentary on the teevee. Can’t wait for Michelle’s appearance —–it will be fun!

Colbert is a bit like a minefield because of all the nuance and innuendo – I hope he remembers she’s the First Lady. Of all the comedians, he’s the best, though.

Theo, no worries. I was in the audience when FLOTUS was on the Colbert Report the first time. He’s funny, witty, but always respectful. The fact that right wingers think he’s one of them is hilarious. His sarcasm is positively brilliant! I think he like her, alot! Of course, it doesn’t hurt that she is so real, so down to earth and utterly charming and sexy at the same time.

yeah, don’t worry. Michelle will be able to handle him because they–I think– have the same sense of humor. Very sardonic and sharp. It’ll be great to see them bounce off each other.

colbert’s tearing sick rantorum a new one last night was comedic genius.

  12. April 4, 2012 at 11:40 am

A little off the subject, I was flipping channels and turned on Morning joe and Mika and Tina Brown, but mostly Mika was taking it to Sen. Ayotte when she was parroting talking points about oil and Joe when he was trying to protect the Senator! She was tenacious! Then he goes and talks about factcheck.org and how he took money from oil, and then Mka shuts that down, saying at least the Prez has the guts to challenge big oil! Wow, Schmo is such a child!!

    • 60 Linda
      April 4, 2012 at 11:57 am

I saw a little of that…..Joe got annoyed that Mika interrupted him……to get a jab in at Ayotte…who was lying through her teeth that woman don’t care about Contraception…

It seems like the Republican woman have their orders…

      Ann Romney
      Ayotte
      Nikki Haley

All on TV with the same talking point….

      • April 4, 2012 at 12:04 pm

Exactly. Trot out theses conservative women so it won’t look like that he has a problem with the female persuasion, fricking hilarious. And on top of that, it was the women that was tearing Ayotte apart. They were having none of it! I can actually say that I was impressed two fold with Mika. She asked the hard questions, like for instance on how she voted on the bill to cut oil subsidies; and how she stood up to Schmo when he was trying to save the senators ass when they got her in the crosshairs. Robney is gonna have problems this fall!

A tale of two ‘headaches': My headaches have been more frequent and more intense the last several months. I hate painkillers, I can’t take any NSAID’s. Is it sinus headache, tension, migraine, all of the above? I monitor the type, the conditions, if sinus meds and painkillers work. Now that my backward doctor is communicating through email — I believe changing to a modern electronic system is either in ACA or had a huge tax credit for doctors last year (that damned socialist PBO), I can communicate more effectively with my doctor. This is especially important because I have no insurance so working with my doctor is very important.

My good friend with Cadillac insurance had what she was sure was a sinus headache. Her doctor had her get a CT scan, an appt with an ENT doctor, who did additional brain and sinus scans and other tests. It took her, by the way, two months to see the specialist who determined — surprise — she should take sudafed and alleve for her headaches.

Is this not what’s broken with American health care? I bet it was close to $10,000 in tests and visits for a sinus headache, when there are people who can’t get cancer treatment. No, Rush, Mitt, Turtle, Alito and Scalia — you can’t go to the ER and get chemo or get a hysterectomy to remove a cancerous mass. You hateful, inhuman monsters.

I hope you feel better soon, 57. I just came off of two weeks of intense headaches, stuffy nose and airplane ears. So much pressure above my neck I thought I’d explode. The hacking coughs were just as bad, so was the sore throat. So glad it’s almost over, all that’s left is the cough and now, a runny nose. It was the worst time. Couldn’t figure out what over the counter meds to take. Took some allergy pills to begin with, then three days later dayquil and nyquil for a few days, didn’t help, so I in the last week, I stuck to Excedrine for the headaches and and hacked my way through classes and clients. wasn’t pretty. Hope you fare better and get well sooner.

Hey 57 – where is your headache? Forehead? Just curious. I get two kinds….. tension headaches that have magically disappeared with botox – if you can’t make the mad face, your muscles can’t hurt… (but like Retin-A, insurance will never ever pay for it.) And another über-weird one that was about 5x as bad – in the same place – across my forehead – like a tension headache, but different, and more painful. I have no idea what possessed me, but I put some Icy Hot on my forehead, laid down in the dark to pretend I was having a magical forehead massage, and let the Icy Hot soak in. In 5min, it was GONE, and didn’t come back. It was wacky.

And yes, they are hateful, inhuman monsters!

      • 100 57andfemale
        April 4, 2012 at 6:58 pm

I certainly can identify when it’s sinus-related or sinus-induced. But they vary. Almost always, however no matter where the pain emanates from, it ends up behind my eye, mainly my left eye but often both, with searing pain, and travels down the muscle from my temple down into my neck and shoulders. Because of no insurance in recent years and crappy catastrophic-only insurance before that for many years, I never went through the testing to determine what kind of pain it actually is. Most are probably sinus-induced migraines when I can’t tolerate light, get nauseous from the pain. They almost always last about 3, 4 days. I can’t take NSAID’s because of my asthma which limits me to loopy drugs that I detest and only take when I absolutely have to.

      • 101 57andfemale
        April 4, 2012 at 7:05 pm

Didn’t read see the rest of your comment. Yes, I use an Icy Hot type of ointment that often gets me through the worst of it. It dulls the pain but I don’t have your magical 5-minute cure, unfortunately.

        It sucks.

In terms of the hateful monsters, I don’t feel very ‘free’. I don’t feel ‘free’ even when I could have bought regular insurance and for catastrophic coverage cost about 1/3 to 1/2 of our income that didn’t cover my asthma and wouldn’t have covered the headaches or anything else. Of course now there’s nothing but the high risk pool. I need to get a new rejection because the pool won’t accept my online rejection so I have to go through it all again. I’m willing to do that. I’m willing to pay a reasonable amount for reasonable insurance. I wish health care was reasonably priced so I could pay. My husband and I have been self-employed almost all of our married life, almost 32 years. Insurance and health care have been a nightmare for us all of those years. We were responsible. We did make insurance a priority until we pay 25 years of premiums, only to have our one and only claim denied. It’s a nightmare.

    MITT ROMNEY AS “TATTLETALE”

Mitt Romney’s mealymouthed response to President Obama’s speech yesterday is just shocking. Seriously, is this the best he can do? These remarks sound like they are coming from a tattletale on the school playground. He makes up some silly reasons for why President Obama is out of touch. Now that’s some serious projecting going on there. It’s Mitt Romney who is out of touch WITH REALITY. All I can do is shake my head. Unbelievable….

    The rubber-glue phenomenon

    By Steve Benen

    ————————-

Here’s the quote that stood out for me:

“President Obama thinks he’s doing a good job. No, I’m not kidding. He actually thinks he’s doing a great job. An historically great job. According to the President, only Lincoln, FDR and Lyndon Johnson have accomplished more. And no, he didn’t say that on Saturday Night Live.

“It’s enough to make you think that years of flying around on Air Force One, surrounded by an adoring staff of True Believers telling you what a great job you are doing, well, that might be enough to make you a little out of touch.”

For now, let’s put aside the fact that Romney is misquoting Obama, and instead focus on the real issue here: Romney thinks the president is “out of touch.” Yes, he said this with a straight face.
