Talk to you all soon.

Hi, Got you on Twitter. Thinking of our friend in NY. Peace, J
Good morning. She is ok. She’s tweeting right now.
Hello everyone. It’s me and Tucker. We made it safely through the night.
We were so worry about you Hachiko….. and Tucker of course. I’m so glad to read your messages this morning.
ChristiMtl, it’s such a pleasure to see your face again! Sure hope you are well on the way to full recovery. Literally ‘A votre sante!’
Ahhhhh thanks vcprezofan2….I’m glad to be back…I hope you’re doing fine.
Morning ChristiMTL ((((((((((Welcome Back, and lots of healing hugs to you.)))))))))))))))HZ
Thank you HZ, I missed all of you…
So happy to hear from YOU, Hachiko! {{Hachiko}} [Thank you, Lord.]
Yes, those are my complete thoughts, vcprezofan2. Just so grateful that Hachiko is safe. Have a beautiful morning and entire day, vcprezofan2. Love you back as well.HZ
Use the computers at the public library/shelter if you can to save your minutes and charges. If your’e library is like mine, they sell usb sticks that you can use to store emal and documents. Paypal.com, gmail is a backup. Did you/do you have a cable e-mail address? You can still login online if they haven’t cut off the service and use the box for the paypal address. Did/do you have a bank account? If so, use that as the paypal backup source and a way to get money to you from paypal.
I don’t have the funds, but f she has a reliable address (her son’s or a shelter), she could be sent a prepaid Visa until the Paypal debit card comes through. The prepaid Visa from Paypal takes a few days, but she could then draw funds directly from Paypal.
good to hear from you! Please let us, or one of your friends know how to get $ to you. Tamra suggested possibly we could get you back into your apt.. or there are other folks here offering you places to stay.. just tell us how you want to do it. please.
Hachiko, so happy to hear that you and Tucker are safe! Let us know how we can best help.
So good to hear from you. My heart goes out to you and Tucker. Please let s know how we can help. You have so many friends here. Love.
Good morning, Hachiko. Glad to hear you and Tucker are ok. I know how it feels to go through what you’re going through. Sending you vibes of peace and comfort. I will help out any way I can.

A few months ago we formed State teams where I listed everyone on the blog by the area they lived in.
I just looked up NY
Mariele K. – Brooklyn
Layell Deroe – Twitter @layellderoe
LDS – Linda Smith – perissos777@yahoo.com – Harlem
These 3 TOD members may be able to help in some way. Use us as resources, we are eager to help.
that is a wonderful idea …WiW…
Great to hear from you Hachiko…
know that altho i live in Philly…i would like to help you in anyway that i can….as always…we stand shoulder to shoulder….
That’s great, Hachikō. I know everybody’s relieved for you and for your dog.
I’m still remembering you in my thoughts and prayers, and I’m sure I’m not the only one.
Hachiko I’m so happy to hear you and Tucker found a place to stay last night. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Good morning Chips and everyone.
Good Morning Cheryllou. I am seeing my TOD family early this morning. A joyful Thursday for all of us.HZ
It’s very difficult for me to navigate the site on my phone, so please bear with me.
GM Hachiko. Good to know you were safe y’day. We are here to help. Just holler, ok ?
Hiya Hachiko. Glad to know you’re safe. I’ve also left you a message on twitter. We’re all here willing and ready to help.
It’s great to know you are safe and found a place to sleep last night with Tucker. We are all pulling for you.
Hey Hachiko….good to know you’re safe. Needless to say you were on everyone’s thoughts and prayers. I pray the almighty will meet you at this point of your needs and avail you of some solution…both immediate and long term. For all those who offered to help in any way,I thank you all. This is the true spirit of what it means to be American…we are our brothers/sisters keepers. This outpouring of concern, love and prayers is completely in sync with the spirit of Easter….selflessness and sacrifice, for those we even hardly know. God bless you all. Keep your head up Hachiko…you are built stronger than these times.
Good morning, maraabout40. Glad to hear you and Tucker were ok last night. You were on my mind when I woke this morning. Please let me know how I can help. Aunt Sis/AnotherSignup1
I got a lot of messages on twitter saying TOD family want to help. You guys have been a blessing to me for so long. Thank you. Please give me some time to go thru the messages.
Hang In there Hachiko, hang In there, our Lord and Savior will see you through. I’m so very very happy that you and Tucker are okay, God bless you
YOU HAVE IT RIGHT THERE LUCI…OUR PRECIOUS LORD WILL CARRY HACHIKO THROUGH…AND ONE OF THE MOST WONDERFUL THINGS WE CAN DO FOR HER IS PRAY FOR HER. DOES ANYONE HAVE SHELTER CONTACTS FOR HER IN NEW YORK? SHE NEEDS TO BE WITH FAMILIES WHO ARE FIGHTING THE SAME DIFFICULTIES. SUPPORT FROM OTHERS IN THE SAME SITUATION IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT RIGHT NOW!
SHE NEEDS TO GET TO A CHURCH AND THEY WILL CHANNEL HER TO THE SUPPORT SHE NEEDS!
Sis…I am so glad that you & Tucker are ok. I know that you have a lot of messages to go through, so I will just say call or text me later.
So great to hear from you Hachikō, when you get a chance check your email, so many people want to help. Please look after yourself and get in touch with us again soon.
Bottom line……Tell us how we can help. Don’t be bashful about it either.
Thank God you and Tucker made it through the night. May He continue to watch over you.
I am watching Bill Press on Current TV this morning. I like him, certainly much better than Morning Joe, but he is going on and on that the new multi-millionaire woman CEO of IBM may not be able to become a member of the multi-millionaire men’s private golf club, Augusta National. I have never heard that she wishes to join. As much as I might try I have a difficult time feeling sorry for her. The CEO of IBM will be fine tonight. Will Hachiko? We are increasingly becomng a two tier society. The upper tier will be fine. Poverty and class are on my mind today, not private golf club memberships for multi-millionaires.
You’re so right, Bill. The “rich” tier live in a fantasy land where golf clubs matter and we’re all supposed to get excited about giving them another tax cut. . Why isn’t Press talking about the hundreds of millions of people who are struggling to get by and are lucky to have a meal and safe place to stay? The lifestyles of the rich and famous just don’t matter to me. The struggles of the rest of us do matter.
GOD IS ANGRY…HIS JUSTICE SHALL PREVAIL!
Morning Bill and Jackie. I enjoy watching Stephine Miller as well. Love Bill Press. Reading his book now. May we all have a beautiful day today. I am so elated that I have my TOD family here. Thank you all.HZ
I started to order the book. Let me know if I should. BIll was a little upset about the Jobs bill also. He had Elliot Spitzer on and he was not happy about it either. I had to go to work so I missed what he had to say.
THE UPPER TIER WILL NOT BE FINE…THOSE WHO THRIVE ON GREED AND INEQUALITY SHALL LOSE THEIR STATUS…IT IS THE MEEK WHO WILL INHERIT THE EARTH!
Good Morning Sue. Yes, justice will roll down like water. He will keep us in His perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Thee. May He whisper to each of us some precious thoughts again today to keep our hearts in tune with those around us with a gentle peace within our energy. (((((( HZ))))))
HZ, you and Sue have it right. May God bless you both.
Amen, and Amen, Sue
Bill’s point wasn’t to bemoan the plight of a CEO but that women have not totally crashed through the glass ceiling.
My point is that we have more serious issues to address. Also, no one knows if the CEO wishes to join Augusta National, and no one knows if she has been offered a membership or not. The membership at Augusta National is not made public. For the topic which Bill had not done his homework to be covered for almost three hours seemed very superficial to me in light of women being homeless and lacking healthcare.
to be honest, I only caught a few minutes of this morning’s show. If this was virtually all he talked about, then that of course is total b.s. If it wasn’t in the context of how many women are impacted by bad policies, then I completely agree that it is b.s.
i understand very well how you might feel Bill…
but the mentality…that says that it is ok to exclude women has to be challenged because of what it means….that women are 2nd class citizens..
Presssssssssssss On!
Kind of ridiculous for these pundits to focus on golf memberships for the wealthy (which only a handful of women could afford, anyway) when women are actually being attacked on a daily basis by the GOP for matters that affect their actual, everyday lives! Forced invasive ultrasounds, banning contraception, criminalizing abortion, voter suppression, elimination of programs that help hungry families – these are real. Golf membership to a place that has a history of misogyny and racism? Not that real.
You are so right. I find it unbelievable that we can be so caught up in petty things. On the other hand, looking at this as a global issue, it speaks to women’s rights. We just don’t need to get caught up in the IBM/CEO issue. I appreciate commentators who move on to discuss the rights of women everywhere including those living in poverty, homelessness and abusive situations.
GM folks

Good Morning, amk4obama. Thanks for the lovely calendar. Nice to wake up to our President. God bless his day today.HZ
JUSTICE IS COMING FOR THE HOMELESS…GOD IS WATCHING…PRAY FOR HACHIKO AND ENCOURAGE HER TO GET TO A CHURCH OR A SHELTER PROCESS THAT WILL POINT HER IN A SUPPOORTIVE DIRECTION. MY HOMELESS HERE IN INDY ARE A STRONG NUCLEUS…GOD WALKS WITH THEM AND THEY ARE UNDEFEATABLE!
When we have politicians who want to cut everything dealing with the poor, the middle class, but give more to the rich, something ain’t right here. The Bible that I read said to help the poor, the needy, the hungry, the sick, those in prison, it didn’t say help the rich.
Sue, God works through you in so many ways. You are blessed and pass the blessings on to your homeless. Hachiko, you are in my prayers. Follow Sue’s guidance. There are so many wonderful and compassionate people reaching out to you. Take their hand.
Good Morning TOD. Thank God that Hachikō and her dog are okay. I had trouble getting to sleep just thinking about them last night.
I’m ready to chip in to help get a place to stay with her dog. Now, to start our day with a smile.
https://twitter.com/NoShock/statuses/187741455761162240
THAT’S PRECIOUS DONNA!..:)
ha! funny – tweeted!
glad you and Tucker made it safely through last night. i’ll keep checking here at TOD to see what is happening.
Good Morning Chips and TOD family. I am so thankful that Hachiko and her dog ,Tucker are okay . I could not sleep last night and stayed up praying for her and Tucker. I woke up a few minutes ago and this came to my lips:
“This is the day that the Lord hath made, and let us rejoice and be glad in it.” We are going to take joy in the day and be blessed with Hachiko.
We are here with you and for you, Hachiko. Please take your time and read your messages and let us know what and where you want your TOD family to help you.
I will not worried, but I will be concerned because the worry will only slow our blessings down. We are going to be open for blessings and joyful ones at that. So have your quiet moments, and know that HZ ,and all of us for that matter will be praying for Wisdom as you are making your decisions.
It is 5:30 in Cali now. I will be up because I can’t sleep. We are going to rest in the Lord and wait patiently on Him. Be as calm as you can our dear one. Please . ((((((( I am praying, candles, and music))))))) that gives me peace so that I can be peaceful about you, Hachiko. I will help in anyway that I can. Love you, Hachiko.HZ
Obama’s Fault
Weekly US unemployment benefit applications fall to 357,000, lowest in 4 years.
Good news for Willard!
Now you’ve done it. McCain just called me. He didn’t appreciate that last comment.
LOL DERBINGLE…JOHNBOY…THE PERFECT EXAMPLE OF A POOR LOSER WHO BTW WILL NEVER GET ANYWHERE BECAUSE OF HIS POOR AND SELFISH ATTITUDE! SHAMEFUL!
hopefruit2, Mitt will fine some way to lie about this.
So comforted to know Hachiko was okay last night. All of the help offered here is a testament to the type of people PBO attracts and are supportive of his efforts to be each other’s keepers, as Jesus and all the prophets mandated. Let no one tell you there’s no power in positive thought and prayer. Without either, where would any of us be? Oh, right. Over there with the nutjobs and the hair pullers. God forbid.

Good morning everyone.. I’m so glad to see posts here and on twitter from Hachiko this morning!!! I’ve tweeted to ask her how to get $$ to her.. hopefully she’ll contact one of us and tell us how..
Stunning Bloomberg piece on what the gop’s biggest donor wants for the return on his investment
Ha !…12 million to Rove who is having little to no impact ?
Hi! One of my neighbors let me in her apartment so I could eat something, feed Tucker ,and get a shower. Now I’m going to try to catch up with your messages quickly before I have to leave.
Marabout, please try and setup some way for us to help you today if you can. We need to get you in a more permanent home or dog friendly hotel until you can figure out something more permanent. I’m just thanking the higher powers that you are okay. I am off to work now but will be checking in throughout the day.
So many fo us care, and are ready to stand up to help. Good morning, all!
You must be feeling so overwhelmed. But if you want, maybe we could set up some consistent way to get messages to you if your phone isn’t functioning.
First thing I must do is find a good place where Tucker can stay for a while. Someone on Twitter sent me the phone number of a place called Pets for Life. By the time I got the information and called, they were closed. They open at 9:00, so I’ll be calling them in 10 minutes.
okay, if that doesn’t work, there is at least one person who cam on here from your area who has offered his home to Tucker.. and Miss Pat has offered home for both of you there not far from you. How much to get in your apt? if you want that.
I hope it will be the option,…. either with Miss Pat or LunarSea, ….I hate to think of the 2 of them being separated….
Hi folks. Good morning! My apartment building dioes not allow dogs but I was going to sneak them both in last night if she had come. However she can stay with me today and tonight and we will figure out something more long term because she has to be with her dog. He is her baby. If Lunestar can keep Tucker then Hachicko can stay here longer till she decides what to do. Right now she is trying to get her dog into a shelter and will call me back in a few. So things will work out. We just have to put our heads together. Thanks good folks and be blessed.
just to tell you again marabout: Hotel offer is still good.. there are offers here for both you and Tucker to stay w/ folks, both LunarSea and Miss Pat.. offers to give Tucker a place to stay- locally.. and if we know the amt to get you back in your home, we may be help to do that.. name it and I think there are enough of us able to do what it takes- we do not want you to spend another night outside.

Forgot my manners, sorry.
‘Good Morning, Ms Chips and TODville, and a SPECIAL GOOD Morning to Hachiko!’
Today will be a busy day, but I’ll have TOD in my thoughts more than usual. May everyone here experience a little more ‘LIGHT’ today than they did yesterday. Blessings, all! VC
Good morning, TODville. You are all such amazing people.
And some good news for us:
New Jobless Claims Drop To Another 4-Year Low
by THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
text size A A A April 5, 2012
The number of people seeking U.S. unemployment benefits fell to a four-year low last week, as layoffs slow and the job market strengthens.
The Labor Department says weekly unemployment benefit applications dropped 6,000 to a seasonally adjusted 357,000. That’s the fewest since April 2008.
The four-week average, a less volatile measure, fell to 361,750, also the lowest in four years. The average has fallen nearly 13 percent in the past six months.
When unemployment benefit applications drop consistently below 375,000, it usually signals that hiring is strong enough to lower the unemployment rate.
The decline coincides with the best three months of job growth in two years. On Friday, the government issues its March jobs report, which is expected to show the fourth straight month of strong hiring.
I pray the numbers are good tomorrow (I am cautiously optimistic) and that we can get that pesky UE rate to drop even if its just a wee little bit. It would be so nice to see that number under 8% by mid summer.
I know. I let out a heavy sigh whenever I see these numbers dropping. I want so much for everyone to be able to find a job and find some peace, even if it’s not the greatest job on earth for the time being. I believe in my heart that we will see better days when PBO is re-elected and we have a stronger House and Senate there to support his job creation efforts.
Have a great day, Donna.
Me too
But I’m sure the Republicans will say that President made the economy worst….you would think that they would shut up already and change their tune,.
TO BE SURE…WHATEVER THOSE NUMBERS ARE…OUR COMPASSIONATE PBO IS DOING HIS BEST…IF THE REPUBLICANS WERE DOING THEIRS…WE WOULDN’T BE IN THIS TODAY! I AM SO THANKFUL FOR PBO AND HIS VALUES THAT HE HAS BROUGHT TO NOT JUST THE WHITE HOUSE…BUT, TO EVERYONE AROUND THE WORLD. EVIL IS EVERYWHERE…PBO HAS SOME SMOKIN’ SHOES AND I HAVE NEVER BEEN DISAPPOINTED IN HIM. WE MUST ALWAYS PRAY FOR HIS STRENGTH IN LEADERSHIP.
Meta, good morning. That is great news. I have a prayer sent up months ago to have the unemployment rate down before we get into the thick of the campaign. I know that we will make it.
This is great, great news. The pundits will be stammering today for sure. Willard will be beside himself. Lying on POTUS again. I love how the Lord just makes them look so foolish. The very scriptures that the try to beat us over the heads with, they do not even live with or by them.
POB is going to be fine. A righteous man in all his ways when they please the Lord, will stand. POB will stand. His heart is so kind, loving, generous, loving and caring.
Good Morning, Mr. President. We need your love and FLOTUS love for your family here at TOD and our precious Hachiko and Tucker. Can Bo have a friend come over to play for a while, Mr. President?HZ
Good morning, dearest HZ. My heart is full of hope for our collective future as we work hard to re-elect our President as well as a functioning House and Senate that believe in the American people and care for their needs. I know this nation will rise to support a man who has our best interests at heart, who speaks with compassion and sincerity, and who lives his values every day.
After I get Tucker settled, I’ll be able to move about freely. The next thing I’ll need to do is make arrangements with the landlord to get my stuff packed and out of the apartment. I have thirty days to do that. I actually need to make arrangements to get some clothes and toiletries. I got put out right after tucker and I came back from a run and I was wearing running shorts and a sports bra. I was only able to put on pants and a top, grab a dress out the closet, get my toothbrush and a towel, and get Tucker’s food prepared and packed. I was walked out to the curb.
It makes no sense for me to try to save the apartment. I owe too much money. I moved into that apartment as a roommate for someone who was already living there. We both signed a new lease February last year. In June, she could no longer pay the rent. She moved out three months later leaving me with three months of her share of expenses to take care of. I was able to get a new roommate right away, but she moved out in January to be closer to her job. She lived out her deposit in December. That’s when I stopped paying the rent – I couldn’t afford it on my own. The rent is $2400. The landlord filed suit for nonpayment. My 99 weeks of unemployment benefits ended in January. I tried to get a new roommate in January and February, unsuccessfully. By the time March came, it no longer made sense to get a roommate, because there was no way I could pay the arrears, and it would not be fair of me to have someone move in knowing we’d be evicted. On February 10th, I went to court and was given until March 26 to come up with the 4 months rent I owed by then. Of course I couldn’t. I knew I would have to move. What I expected, however, was a 6-day notice of eviction. I never got one. The marshall showed up yesterday, let himself in the apartment and threw me out on the street.
Oh wow. That is brutal. It sounds as if we can all offer something in creating a cushion for you over the 30 days, while you sort things out and move forward. Stay strong, we have your back.
So you can see why trying to save the apartment makes no sense. I owe too much money (it’s now 5 months rent), and I can’t guarantee I’d get a roommate, and I still don’t have a job or any means of income to even afford half.
As for the offers to put me and Tucker up in a pet-friendly hotel, I don’t think I should waste money doing that. Any money I can get, I will need to purchase packing supplies and hire movers and pay for storage.
After that, I need a job. If I don’t get a job, I am going to end up right back in this situation. I need to be able to take care of myself again. I can’t go on like this.
I need a job.
okay.. however, whatever you want and think best- we just want to help out however you prefer. LunarSea and Miss Pat both have offers for you and Tucker to stay- LunarSea in Maine – we’ll help you get there.. Miss Pat is in Harlem.
Hi Sheri! I’ve been reading through my messages on Twitter and you are so amazing. Thank you so much for everything. Everyone here is just so amazing.
Chips said to check my email. I’m going to do that now. Maybe these ladies emailed me their number.
oh honey we’re your family, I’m just so glad to hear from you this morning
Yes definitely check your email as I think numbers were left for you to call. we just want you and Tucker safe and okay immediately.
Learning of your plight, pricking tears, and so glad that you made it through the night, and a few thoughts come to mind.
What about a Caribbean Community Club/Centre where suggestions might come readily- or even a church club in Harlem,Brooklyn etc where some-one always knows some-one with opportunity etc. Miss Pat might help here!I
It is amazing. We all worried so much about you and, believe me, lots and lots of prayers were said last night. So glad you are ok.
When people are Honeless, the three basic needs come into play.
Food, Shelter and water. After that Is secured, then you can think of the other responsibilities.
Good luck!
Hackinko, first a launching pad of some kind-a hotel room for a couple of days will let you make phone calls from their system, shower, and many have included breakfast, so you could save on one bill. Some way even have internet access as well-(again, save your charge and minutes)
You can apply for food stamps online and a lot of other social services as well, so do that.
Right now, even if you got an immediate offer for a job, you would still need a place to shower, do laundry and sleep. Plus the hotel room will allow you to store your clothes until you can get the storage bin and truck.
we want to get you into something before night, no more nights outside.
how about a hotel room right now for you and tucker? I would happily call this minute and put you in.
I’m going to check my email to see if I have a message from Miss Pat who said is in Harlem. If she will put me and Tucker up, I could save the money for packing and moving. Let me check and get back to you.
Okay, Hachiko, that is what I am going to pray for right now. That you will be able to get the email for Miss Pat and make contact. I am going in prayer right now. (((Love you, it is going to work, do not worry)))))))))HZ
GOOD! on calling Miss Pat. let us know.
Marabout I hope you and Ms.Pat are able to talk soon. That way you and Tucker have a base for now, so you can clear your head and think about all the other stuff.
I’ve been informed this morning via a follower on twitter (many folks on twitter looking out for you too Hachiko
that because you’ve had cancer this via the ADA moves you to the head of the line in job applications.. as soon as I get more info- and you’ve got a roof over your head, we’ll find out more.. plus we can all put our heads together and our fingers and tweet for jobs. We’re just getting started here, so hang on~
http://www.nyc.gov/html/housinginfo/html/em_assist/emergency_assistance.shtml
So good to hear from you Hachiko! We’re ready to help however we can. God Bless You.
I hope it will work out with Miss Pat, it would be the better option for now, at least Tucker would be with you, a safe place……..crossing my fingers!
You can email me (Chips has our emails). I can pay for storage via credit card for some months. We all want to give you practical help so you can focus on getting a job. I have seen 4 people in the last 2 weeks who have gotten jobs after looking for 1-2 years.
It can happen, I was one of them. I am 56 and was unemployed from Dec 2008 (George Bush) until Feb 2011 (PBO). I was able to get a job on USAjobs.gov . It is only part time (I am on a list for full time) but it is a job and I am grateful.
Well, not whine, but to let you know, I AM NOT RECEIVING EMAILS for the Obama Diary. Yesterday, I did receive one after posting about it. Then, I took myself off the rss feed, to help reduce, but maybe there’s still something funny going on?? Thanks.
Hachiko, that is such a stressful story, but you will come out on top one day. I can tell by all the support you are getting right here. To have been able to stay in such a high rental is hard, I know from past experience…just so hard to maintain. I hope your health is good right now, try to take care of yourself…sounds like you do, with the running. You have nowhere to go but UP, so stay strong, stay in constant contact with your friends, take care.
This me replying to myself…..I am still on the rss feed, because I still haven’t received my Obama Diary emails, so, that’s ok for now. Still wondering if it’s my computer? or WordPress? I am getting other emails…is it something I said?
Thank you for link to Hachiko, one never realizes these stories, & how lonely you can feel when you are in this situation. I believe her story should be told to Boehner, etc…..I have walked in your shoes Hachiko, everything does happen for a reason, I believe, & the ecruciating pain you may feel now will be shared by all of us. Stay in touch, & thanks for the picture of sweet Tucker.
Take your time and make a list of a plan in your head, Hachiko. We are here. Miss Pat was willing to come and get you last night. Please ask Chips how to contact Miss Pat. At least you will not be on the streets.
If it is the same Miss Pat, which I do believe so, a very beautiful soul. See what you can contact. You just let us know how to help. And sheriji, you are such a dear sweet spirit.
I do not have a lot, but I will help with what I can. I am trusting that we all will have the abundance when and how Hachiko needs. We will get her through this, I trust God for the very best. I really do.
(((((((( Love you, Hachiko)))))))) HZ
oh HZ you’re Amazing.. thank YOU.
Mitt Romney says Barack Obama is “ending Medicare as we know it.”
Politifact gave him a “Pants on Fire”
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2012/mar/22/mitt-romney/mitt-romney-says-barack-obama-ending-medicare-we-k/
Linda you do know Mitt Romney is a liar.
With the good news about jobless rates, I see the village is gonna try to claim that the numbers were “fixed” to help the Obama administration. The comments in this article show that it’s already being used to try to say the Obama admin is “fixing” mumbers. mark my words, this will be the meme come tomorrow if the numbers are down.
“Sharp drop in jobless rate raises questions for economists”
http://economywatch.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/04/05/11006026-sharp-drop-in-jobless-rate-raises-questions-for-economists?lite
you’d think they could just be happy for the people who’s lives will now be better with a job.. no they have to use their ignorant Obama derangement to dirty something hopeful & positive.
So when the numbers are BAD and they fit the GOP narrative they are taken at face value. When the numbers are GOOD they are discounted as flawed and suspicious. Got it…..
Dirty little fuckers. This is why we need to be vigilant as hell on these people. They will end up calling the race 6 months in advance if we let them.
For those of you who still visit Old Orange from time to time, I’m linking a great diary about our President to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the movie which will be re-introduced by President Obama tomorrow night at 8PM on USA. If you have a chance and still have an account, please read this very moving tribute to PBO, Atticus Finch (To Kill a Mockingbird), and Harper Lee, while honoring Trayvon Martin’s memory and tip and/or rec the diary.

thank you for sharing that hopefruit.
Tipped/Rec’d. Thanks Hopefruit.
Hachiko, I’m here to help. IF you need money, I can provide that, just let me know.

hello timafi, I’m sorry to hear you’re not well.. take care and best wishes to you.
Hi TOD family.Hachiko I am very sorry to hear what has happened.I am glad last night went okay for you and Tucker and that you are both safe.I wish I could do something.I resumed treatment so I’ve been missing from this site and I missed a lot it seems and I am sorry for that.If I feel a little better I might log back on.I am sending you love, support and prayers.Hang in there Hach
Hi timafi, you get some rest and try to relax also. Take good care to do that. I will keep you in my prayers and my thoughts. Feel better today, but try not to rush too much. You are in our prayers, timafi.HZ
The latest USA Today/Gallup poll of 12 swing states shows Mitt Romney losing support among independent voters. Romney has dropped 10 points among independents since the fall, while President Obama is up by nearly the same amount. Independent women in particular prefer Obama to Romney by a wide margin.
My heart goes out to hachiko. Is she and Tucker not the face of what has happened to the middle class because of conservative policies and greed? Whatever I can do to help.
You’re right 57. And that is exactly what is going to drive people to the polls in November to send a resounding message to Mitt Romney and his friends in the media, Koch brothers, Wall Street, etc that we’re not having any of the crap they’re peddling. I don’t care how much dirty money they throw away in useless advertisements. They can buy Teabagger votes that way, but that’s the extent of it.
Almost every body knows someone or several people who have been personally and deeply affected by those very policies that created this mess. When qualified people who are willing to work are unemployed for several years at a time while Romney and his friends are all about their car elevators, $10,000 bets and 2 cadillacs, etc., it literally drives you to rage. Hopefully, the majority of ordinary Americans will be channeling that rage on November 6 when we vote for Barack Obama, and Dems in house and senate.

Gallup is out with a new unemployment survey showing joblessness continues to drop, falling half a percent last month.
The poll is based on interviews, not on the actual jobs numbers from the government, which are due out Friday. But it could portend good news — or at least not-so-bad news — for the administration in Friday’s report.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate measured by Gallup fell to 8.1 percent in March from 8.6 percent in February. The non-adjusted rate dropped to 8.4 percent from 9.1 percent.
Robneys big Hire this morning, is Ed Gillespie.
You know, the Crossroads GPS dude.
Is this legal? Because, Gillespie runs that super PAC with Rove?
REPUBLICANS FOR OBAMA
By Kelly Thomas
————————————————-
My thoughts on why this was a genius move.
1. It immediately made news because of all the intense whining on the right. How dare President Obama be so mean to poor Paul Ryan? Ryan cares so much about the deficit but President Obama is just not serious/where is HIS plan? President Obama knew it would drive them crazy. Afterall, they are used to him just being Mr. Nice Guy and trying to negotiate even when they make it clear they will not budge an inch. They don’t like this “taste of their own medicine.” Where is their punching bag? Team Obama knew the far right would not just ignore this instigation and would take the bait easily.
.
.
4. President Obama weaves Ronald Reagan into his speech, saying that even his ideas would be rejected by the current Republican leadership. He even gives examples! Bonus points on that one-must have really driven the far right crazy!
5. President Obama joins Ryan and Romney at the hip. Romney has embraced the Ryan Plan so now he needs to own it. He can’t run from it even when he gets into “Etch-a-Sketch” mode.

wesleya17 – My son was an OTR trucker for a while, and you are reminding me of him – and his good heart – so much. Back when Katrina happened, he didn’t have his own truck, but when he heard the people there needed food and water, he said if he had a personal truck he could load up, there would be only one thing he’d be doing: “Road trip!” Everybody helping everybody else = that’s America! Happy trails to you!
I know what you mean we housed a family in Houston from Katrina for one year and they doing fine now on their own. They got jobs in the oil industry. So helping hands do work with help of GOD.
With the help of GOD and his little ol’ helpers, like YOU.
Amen, Jacquelineoboomer. ((((((((God’s Hands of Hugs From His Little ol’Helpers)))))))))HZ
We are such a loving and blessed family here. I cherish all of you so much.HZ
Last night’s thread on Hachiko is what every one should be tweeting to Boehner asking him “where are the frakkin jobs?”
Tweet also to DWS, Nancy Pelosi, PO AND Flotus. This is why WE CAN’T WAIT.
Sending positive vibes to you Hachiko. You will get through this and I am willing to help. Once you wrap your head around the next step.
Your story is as you said, one of millions of Americans.
We should be shouting it from the rooftops. John Boehner — Where are the jobs?
thats a very good idea nospin.
Yes,please send on to the relevant folks who can make and take issue, And, it will also send a message to the ‘how’ that ordinary people respond with assistance and love in their hearts, when the chips are down (pardon the pun)!
President Obama will be signing the JOBS Act today at 2PM. And guess who is going to be front and center trying to create an image that they were the ones creating jobs in order to lie to their bagger constituencies – that’s right you guessed it. Boehner and Cantor. The chief obstructionists when PBO initially laid out his plan. Now that the economy is improving they want to take credit and pretend that it’s THEIR JOBS Act!!!
Mark Knoller was busy tweeting about the Jobs Act and how Cantor has posted a list of all the things in the Act. I tweeted Knoller back telling him “nice try” but we know this is not Cantor’s plan and he simply wants to take the credit for it.
We are not FOOLED.
Shitheads. I’d like to smack that plastic grin right off Cantor’s face! That carnival game alone could raise MILLIONS toward helping good people:)
*plastic grin* *carnival game*
I’m rolling on the floor here!
wow I didn’t even know about this jobs bill.. I just castigated Boehner all over tweeter – he deserves it too. Our President and dems are the only ones who’ve been fierce about getting jobs, the hell w/ these gop bums, I’m so fed up with them and their shenanigans.
Oh, good, I thought I was the only one who didn’t know the jobs bill passed. You are right about your thoughts on the GOP and their shenanigans. Hopefully, thinking people can rid most of Washington of their antics by voting ALL DEM in November!
I had no idea. I know PO was pushing it but I didn’t know that the GOP was finally willing to put on big boy pants and try to do the right thing.
hopefruit2 – Excellent tweet to that bozo Mark Knoller. Excellent! We need to at least make the attempt to keep him honest, although it sure doesn’t look like it’s working. But keep at it!
Did Cantor and Knoller also tweet about the provisions of the Dodd-Frank bill that they removed with this bill? The GOP introduced a bunch of changes to President Obama’s original proposal for small business regulation adjustments that are harmful. They’ve eliminated some of the SEC reporting requirements for small businesses that will provide a loophole for swindlers to cheat people, and they refused the amendment that would have fixed that loophole. They also allow for some small businesses to only file 2 out of the first 5 years, which means some of the swindlers can set up shop and disappear with people’s money because there won’t be sufficient oversight from required reporting. Also, they eliminate the need for some businesses to report executive salaries and the need for their stakeholders vote on those salary and bonus increases. So, the President’s bill didn’t do that. If Cantor, Boehner and Knoller want to take credit for opening the door to these wolves who will swindle Americans, so be it.
I thought there was something not quite right with this bill, so why did it pass?
I think there was a desire to be bipartisan. If they had allowed the safeguarding amendments, then it would be ok. I’m sure they’ll figure out a way to fix the wrong stuff, and keep the good stuff. At its core, it’s the proposal that President Obama put forward to help small businesses. It’s just been polluted by the Republican desire to put companies ahead of people – these goodies will benefit investment bankers and swindlers more than actual small businesses.
Thanks for answering my question. I can only conclude that it must help the small businesses in some way or I don’t think PBO would sign it. Small comfort though. We need to win BIG majorities in the House and Senate to fix all their shenanigans.
I think President Obama signed it specifically to help small businesses, which was his original intent in proposing the relaxing of some of the regulations, believing that the oversight built into the Dodd-Frank law would provide some security for ordinary investors. The GOP cut the regulatory oversight to help their investment buddies and crony criminals.
I truly would like to see PBO say something like “This is a start, a small, teeny tiny step in the right direction and I hope Mr. Boehner and Mr. Cantor will go back to their delegation and get them to do some really constructive things for a change.”
nlike some people, I won’t explode with rage if he doesn’t do what I say.
THE GOP’s REJECTION OF THE REAGAN LEGACY
By Steve Benen
————————————-
Reagan “could not get through a Republican primary today”? Reagan could not get through a Republican primary without being laughed off the stage today.
Why does this matter? For one thing, it’s at least interesting to appreciate the fact that Republicans have a religious-like reverence for Reagan, they have no use for his approach to governance.
For another, it should tell the American mainstream something important when the GOP moves so far to the ideological extreme that it’s no longer the Party of Reagan.

Dear Ms Chips, do you realize what a compassionate and empathetic community you have here? I was totally blown away to feel the concern and anguish, through the screen, that everyone who posted felt for Hachiko, especially when I kept pricking tears the more I read.
Which prompts me to get back to, the meme of a few months back, of expanding the site to news, views, humanity, education, and a few other variables. (some might even be happy to assist) I know I am out of my place, and you really don’t need all the work, but I really feel in my gut that this beautiful community blog is ‘calling’ for this type of evolving platform..
I also know, because of the stellar support offered, that Hachiko will find her way, as she sits and thinks things through. I thank you Ms Chips for being who you are and doing what you do. Blessings, to You and the TOD stalwarts.
agree, I think we can help each other & others out in a lot of areas.. theres a real brain trust and full hearts residing here.
dear jebus I hate this wordpress thingy.Hi TOD family.Won’t be long but wanted to let Hachiko that she was in my prayers and I pray God opens doors for her and Tuck and may He keep you both safe. Will check back later.Hang in there friend
FRED
Yes, sherijr, you made it happen. You are today’s shero!
well I don’t think so, but thank you. With out all of you here, I would have been alone too many times to count.. no one should be alone.. and when someone says they’re homeless.. how do we not respond? I can go w/o paying my bills for a month if need be.. I’m lucky to have a home I won’t lose.. and I learned a few years ago- that sometime stuff just happens no matter how hard we try to right it things can hit us hard and we need help to get back up, all of us get that moment I think, at some point. Luckily we are large hearted here and strong w/ each other. we’re so lucky chips has brought us here with her hard work and smart mind
So relieved to hear from you ((((Hachiko))). Whatever we need to do, you’re not spending another night on the streets. Help is on the way and your family is here to embrace you and lift you up!
Good morning Chips and TOD family,

Good morning everyone. Thank you Dearr God for hearing our prayers.
Ms. Pat, I am in Harlem, also, I have some errands to run this morning. Please get my email from Chips. And hopefully we will meet up later this evening.
Hachiko, your experience has opened up a “Circle of Love” here. The blessing and love are flowing like rivers of living waters.
God is truly in control.
I will check back later.
Hi LDS, I’ve sent on your email address to Hachiko along with contact details of everyone else trying to help – and there are so many, it’s amazing.
I’ve asked her just to focus on getting today sorted out, we can talk to her about the longer term once she does that. Will let you all know what’s happening asap, sorry for not being around much today, but will post updates on all the news later.
Will get he e-mail and e-mail you when she is here. Then we can go from there. Whatever happens she will sleep here tonight, get some rest and food. Tomorrow we will see what she wants to do. Thanks and God bless you.
Good Morning TOD family. I am so glad that marabout40/Hachiko and Tucker are OK. I am sure with daylight and all the offers of help she will connect with someone close by so she can make plans to get her things out of the apt., moved into storage, then start planning to get on her feet. I am so amazed, thankful, and proud of this community that has rallied around one of our own. You have helped not only Marabout40/Hachiko and Tucker but so many who are regulars and lurkers in case they or someone they know also needs help.
I am still willing to send money so as soon she has a plan and knows her needs, sing out and I’ll send a money order.
Bless your sweet and generous heart, 0388jojothecat!!! You are such a blessing. There is so much love within this beautiful family.

Newt’s Health Care Think Tank Goes Bankrupt
The Center For Health Transformation, a think tank founded by Newt Gingrich to generate legislative proposals for health care reform, is filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy according to the Atlanta Business Chronicle.
Much like Gingrich’s campaign, it appears as if struggles with debt were its biggest problem. The Chronicle reports it has $1 million to $10 million in liabilities.
The group became a liability for Gingrich on the campaign trail last year after it was discovered its website forcefully called for a mandate requiring citizens to purchase health insurance — exactly the position enacted by Mitt Romney in Massachusetts and President Obama in his 2010 health care law.
So glad to hear you made it safely through the night, Hachiko! Sounds like you’re making an immediate plan – there are many of us who are ready to help once you figure out what you need.
To who ever says the stimulus didn’t work…throw the BS flag!

Hachiko, just set up something so folks can send you some monoey. Don’t be proud. We all could be in your shoes. Many of us far away want to help and that is how we can. It would help to get your stuuf packed up. (Mary Gray)
So happy to hear from Hachiko. Please let us know what we can do.
I just happened to se this on twitter a couple of minutes ago. Don’t know if it will help, but getting in touch with local HUD may provide more info.
PREVENTING HOMELESSNESS
According to the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP) created by the Recovery Act has helped keep at least one million people from becoming homeless during the economic downturn.
The program received $1.5 billion in Recovery funds, which HUD awarded to state, county, and city governments. Local officials continue to identify individuals and families facing imminent threat of being homeless and are providing help in a variety of forms, including:
Short and medium-term rental assistance
Housing relocation and stabilization services
Credit counseling
Utility payments
Moving cost assistance
HPRP marks the first time that such a large amount of federal funds has been available for homelessness prevention at the national level. As required by the Recovery Act, the funds must all be spent by September 2012. But HUD notes that many communities across the country that have benefited from HPRP are planning to continue the strategies and approaches that the program has proved to be effective.

tweeted, this is good info meta, thanks!

This is what I am trying to utilize, but the number crunchers are making it difficult! My family is not a wicket to be fit into a peg! We are real people with immediate issues. These people can’t seem to get out of their own way!
You are EXACTLY who they should be helping. I don’t understand why they turned you down. They should explain to you in great deal what it is and HOW YOU CAN QUALIFY…THEY KNOW! What burns me is THEY ARE HELPING FRIENDS and FAMILY MEMBERS, those that are in the know of how the system works. There’s always a catch.
chips what is your email please? I should have asked earlier.
Hi sherijr, it’s theobamadiary@gmail.com.
Sorry again everyone for the lack of updates today, will catch up later.
thank you.. we all (I believe) realize how busy you are, its okay- thank you sincerely for all you’re doing chips.

Good morning TOD Family, I love you guys. You are the best example of the President’s message of what America must be. Looking out for our brothers and sisters. Stay strong and united.
SAN FRANCISCO — A federal judge in San Francisco says the denial of insurance benefits to same-sex spouses is discriminatory.
The ruling Tuesday involves 38-year-old federal court law clerk Christopher Nathan and 39-year-old Thomas Alexander, who were married in 2008 when same-sex marriages were legal in California. Voters later approved Proposition 8, overturning the state Supreme Court ruling that had legalized same-sex marriages.
Nathan was turned down when he tried last year to enroll Alexander in the federal government’s health insurance plan. A 1996 law bars federal recognition of same-sex unions.

Another Clinton Era nightmare struck down…..
So very sorry to hear of our Hachiko and her dog being evicted… just awful. Wish there was something I could do to help, please let me know if there is an address where we can send her some $?? Thank you.
With so many of us out of work but also willing to help others in need, can we set up resume and contact databases on here? I’m not good with the tech aspects but what I was thinking is that for those that wish to participate, we could put together our own ad hoc employment / community support agency. We all have skills that we could lend to the project and collectively, we can probably help folks no matter where they are.
Many of you are excellent writers so perhaps you could review resumes and cover letters?
Those that are in secure positions could possibly provide references and introductions.
Connect via LinkedIn and keep your Twitter account completely segregated from it.
Provide as much contact information as you feel comfortable with along with what you can do to help in different situations.
In reference to Hachiko’s current predicament, which got me here, we could also possibly put together a contact database so that there’s always someone relatively local that is willing and able to help in case of emergencies. I understand why some may not wish to disclose location for a variety of reasons but there are enough participants on here, I think, that no one should ever be left alone or feel as if they’re left alone. I’m thinking specifically about getting Hachiko the help she needs to collect and pack up her things. A moving company in NY could be prohibitively expensive. Isn’t anyone close to her and Tucker? Do you know anyone in the area with a truck who would be willing to help?
I’m in Downtown Atlanta and I’m willing to help anyone that I can. If nothing more than making a phone call on behalf of, I’ll help.

Great ideas Victor, I’m in for anything that gets everyone back on their feet.
I think you have great ideas as well. I’m a teacher, so I could check out cover letters for grammar errors, that sort of thing. I can’t donate money for various reasons, I wish I could, but that is something I could do.
I’m going to think this through and maybe just use a spreadsheet to start which I’m more familiar with. Sort of an activists Angie’s List if you will.
Betsy, never worry about what you can’t do. We all bring something different to the table. A certain contribution may not seem like much but to someone, it could mean everything. If we all do a little, no one has to do a lot but it all gets done!
Stay tuned!
I don’t mean any harm, but I don’t get the “too many people don’t know what it does argument. Everybody knows ACA passed so there is nothing preventing an individual from doing the research to find out what the bill contains. Period.
Just 11% of Republicans would be “excited” with a Romney nomination-
http://today.yougov.com/news/2012/04/04/romney-problem-just-11-gop-voters-would-be-excited/
OFF FOR ERRANDS TODAY…GOD BLESS EVERYONE…WILL CATCH UP LATER!…:)
Maybe, just maybe this is some semblance of putting minds together to ‘community organize’ ! Wow, taking a page out of the master at work,i.e PBO’s book!
David Bender made an observation this morning on Stephanie Miller’s show. Unfavorables for Mitt? He doesn’t care. He made his entire career on being hated and profiting from it. He wins by decimating his opponent — he did it in MA, and he’s done it to Newt and Little Ricky.
Rachel’s segment on Mitt the Liar was chilling. We know all of the facts, but her characterization of the ease with which he does it — I continually hear her voice in my head and it is indeed chilling.
It’s hard for us here who are so engaged to get our brains around the 10% or so of voters who will vote but are completely ignorant of what is going on. These are people who actually don’t know anything about this primary, may not even know anything about Mitt Romney. I work with a woman like that who has a very decent middle class job, has three children and tells me that she’s too busy to know what’s going on. Her ignorance on things is astounding — she doesn’t know anything about the Republican primary AT ALL much less issues that require that you read at least a paragraph of news each day. These people are persuadable and this is our challenge.
I say 10% because I’m talking about a particular subset of ‘independents’ who will vote but are truly unengaged on any level. The majority of independents lean one way or the other — they are the Republicans who aren’t happy but will most likely vote Republican anyway and the farther left Democrats who often don’t vote unless all their ponies are in line with pretty bows.
Hi. Me again.
I talked to the folks at Pets for Life. They can take Tucker at their East Harlem location for two weeks at a cost of $15/day. I will have to pay the entire $210 once I get him there. They’ll also provide information for taxi that will take dogs.
I think it’s best if I take up LunarSea on her offer because it’s a little longer term than a week or two, and she’s willing to take Tucker. Pets for Life needs to talk to her to make sure that when I pick Tucker up from them, I will have a place to take him.
Chips sent me her number, so I called her and left her a message. I’m waiting to hear back from her. I want to make sure she’s still willing and ok with talking with the Pets for Life folks before I give them her number.
Once I get Tucker squared away, I could go stay with Miss Pat while I pack things up in the apartment and sell what I need to sell. I don’t know what I can take with me to Maine, so I might have to sell some of my things. It’s going to be interesting to see if the landlord will work with me to get all that done.
As for how to get funds to me, I’m going to figure out how to do paypal and then get back to everybody.
I am so sorry I haven’t been able to respond to each individual post. I’m just so exhausted and really trying to make use of the time I have to find a place for Tucker.
Please be patient with me, and thank you, thank you, thank you for all your well wishes and kind offers. Thank you so much. It means everything.
Don’t worry for a second about responding to each of us.. we’re not going anywhere
I think you’ve got a good plan there, between PetsforLife, Miss Pat and Lunar Sea.. ready to send funds as soon as you set up your paypal.. keep in mind that the first funds sent to you may take between 3 & 5 days to reach you. Do you have enough to pay for Tucker when you take him to Petsforlife?
on the $ for Tucker- I’m thinking we could call them- pets for life- and pay via credit card if need be, just a thought.
Is there anyway we can set something up that can get the funds to a western union or something? That way the money would be to you a whole lot quicker than going thru Paypal.
Western Union only takes minutes and most grocery stores have them, I use it all the time. But for that to work each person must have Hachiko’s real name which might be a problem on the internet but I’m thinking individual emails to her via TOD can help if she is able to communicate with one person at a time via email to provide that info. Just a thought I’m putting out there.
Since it may take a few days for PayPal, let us know if you need help with gas to get to LunarSea’s. Maybe a few of us can send something to you via Western Union or Money Gram to help with that expense.
Yes!
Sherijr, This a idea that Hachiko can do go to a Western Union office get one of there prepaid credit cards and get her address where she will be using .once gets set pick someone like to access to info ,The way these cards work is you get the persons name that is on the card and anyone can stop in the local Western Union office file out one of the prepaid forms and put the amount the want to add to the card plus the 3.95 charge and the funds are place directly on the card with minutes and she will have her card and a pin number that she only knows and can the funds and be safe too.Only she will have access to the funds.AND THE TOD FAMILY CAN HELP FROM ANYWHERE UNTIL THINGS GET BETTER.You see we truckers have accounts like that and any truckstop in the USA AND CANADA we get funds added to our cards for fuel and repairs or other troubles we get into in the middle of nowhere and the banks are closed but we must keep moving. This is just another way to help and give her safety at the same time because we don’t want some person to try and take advantage of her situation to enrich themselves. when you all decide how we are to act I’ll be ready to help heading North on I-5, TAKE ALL
this is a great idea, and cheaper too.. I will forward it to Hachiko, thanks wesleya!
This is what President Obama meant when he said “I am my brother’s keeper, I am my sister’s keeper”. This is faith, and community in action. One day you will be able to pay it forward, until then, accept the help. I am so glad you got through the night, and that you are safe.
Chips, Please forgive me this long post, but I wanted to get some info to Hachiko today about her options re: emergency intervention in housing court/ financial help social services in NYC.
MJ
Dear Hachiko:
If you have time to get to a library today, please take a look at the following presentation about what to do if you have been evicted in NYC: http://media.courts.state.ny.us/video/nyc/presentations/seminars/What-to-Do-If-Youre-Evicted.wmv. Also check out the following website for additional help. http://www.lawhelp.org
1. Things you can do today:
Go to your local housing court asap. Ask to speak to someone in the clerk’s office. Ask for help in filling out “An Order To Show Cause”. When you have been evicted, your case will be handled very quickly. So when the judge signs the order to show cause, the judge will usually demand that the landlord and his attorney come to court the next day. normally the next day.
Judge will usually say Landlord is estopped from renting the apt to someone new. Judge also can give you permission, that same day, to be allowed into your apt for an hour to get out from the apt impt medications, medicaid card, rent receipts financial papers, birth certificates, clothing, items for your dog. Papers have to be served on the Landlord’s lawyer, judge can help you with this if the lawyer is in the court, or you can
2. Things That Will Happen The next day:
Judge may need to determine what happens next.
Landlord’s atty will come w/ a rent breakdown, what they say you owe + court costs + legal fees
next question is how soon you can pay the money: court may give you a week to gather money
If you don’t pay the money, you can’t get back in.
Where to go for legal assistance:
Queens Legal Services provides representation to low-income people throughout Queens County. To contact the Housing Unit, call the hotline on Mondays between 10 am and 12 pm and again between 2 pm and 4 pm.

FAQ’s re: Emergency Grants for Rent Arrears/ Public Assistance
What is an “Emergency?”
For purposes of emergency/immediate need grants, there is an emergency any time a person faces one or more of the following:
-Little or no food;
-No shelter:
-Threat of eviction, pending eviction, homelessness;
-No fuel for heating during cold weather;
-Utilities have already been disconnected or the person has a utility disconnection notice with a shut off scheduled within 72 hours or; or
-Lack of items necessary for health and safety.
Can I get cash assistance on the day I apply for public assistance?
Yes. Usually, the City decides whether a person will get cash assistance 30 days after families apply or 45 days after single adults apply. There are some needs, however, that are so urgent that they must be met before the usual waiting period.
When you go into a Job Center and indicates that you are facing an emergency, the Job Center must conduct an emergency interview to determine whether there is an emergency. If the City decides an emergency exists, it then decides what steps to take to meet the emergency needs. The Job Center must put this decision in writing and give it to you.
The assistance does not have to be in cash and, in fact, rarely is. Job Centers are encouraged to find other ways to meet emergency needs. If the City offers another way of meeting the emergency need that does not solve the problem, a small amount of cash should be available.
Can I get food stamps on the day I apply for public assistance?
-Yes. When a welfare office decides that a person has no food there are a number of ways in which the person can get immediate help. Usually, a welfare office will provide a hungry person with a list of food pantries in the area where food is available. If there are no food pantries available, a welfare office can provide the hungry person with an immediate needs grant of cash.
If a person needs help with food and can wait a few days, a welfare office can issue “expedited food stamps,” which can be issued in about five days.
Can I get assistance for things other than rent, food, or medical care?
–Yes. Some of the special allowances that a person might be eligible for are: restaurant allowances, home-delivered meals, a small amount of money to buy basic furniture, money for moving expenses, security deposits, and finders/brokers fees, storage fees, mortgage payments, non-utility heating fuel, equipment repairs, basic clothing replacement, camp fees, pregnancy.
A person on public assistance who needs one or more of these allowances should discuss them with his or her welfare worker.
Can I get assistance to pay rent arrears?
–Yes. There are many government programs that help a person pay rent arrears that may lead to eviction. If a person is facing eviction, even when that person makes too much money to be eligible for welfare, he or she should go to the nearest welfare office and ask about rent arrears grants.
Can I get assistance to pay my utilities bill?
-Yes. A person may be eligible for a grant to pay a utilities bill if he or she has no cash, has no other place to live, and is the tenant and customer of record.
If a person is eligible for a utilities arrears grant, a welfare office will provide enough money to pay the last four months of utilities arrears. Once the last four months of utilities are paid for, a utility company may not shut off a person’s power.
MINORITY LEADER NANCY PELOSI – “GAS PRICE SPECULATION”
Democratic Lawmakers Hold Hearing on Gas Prices and Excessive Oil Speculation
================================
Washington, DC
Wednesday, April 4, 2012
Following weeks of surging gas prices, the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee, led by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), held a hearing on the impact of excessive oil speculation Wednesday afternoon.
The committee, which is co-chaired by Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), considered how Wall Street speculators are artificially driving up the price at the pump and causing pain to millions of American consumers.
Witnesses at the hearing included: Gene Guilford, President and CEO of the Independent Connecticut Petroleum Marketers Association (ICPA) and Michael Greensberger, Professor at the University of Maryland Frances King Carey School of Law and former Director of the Division of Trading and Markets at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

These speculators would have had their tails clipped if we had a Democratic Congress. Legislation would already be on the floor, debated and passed by the House.
My prayers are with you Hachiko

Speculators and Commodity Prices—Redux
Commissioner Bart Chilton
February 24, 2012
On March 16, 2011, I spoke to an industry group concerning the impact of speculative activity on commodity prices. Eleven months later, I’m still talking about it, and saying almost precisely the same thing. Speculators are necessary liquidity providers to our markets, and while they perhaps are not driving prices to uneconomic levels, they certainly have an effect on prices—above and beyond where they might otherwise go—and American consumers and taxpayers are shouldering that burden.
President Obama spoke about rising gas prices yesterday. You can’t turn on the television or the radio without hearing about record high gas prices, and yet the CFTC has not yet been able to implement Congressionally-mandated position limits to put the brakes on excessive speculation in oil and other commodity markets. Meanwhile, trade associations representing Wall Street interests have sued us in federal court in order to impede our imposition of position limits.
So, I find myself repeating—and repeating—the same message: it’s high time to kick it in gear and use the one tool we have to appropriately address high oil and gas prices.
In my remarks last year, I listed numerous academic studies, reports, and citations supporting the contention that speculators have some effect on commodity prices. I did so because some had expressed—with unwarranted confidence—that no evidence even existed. For example:

Good Morning TOD family
Just got time to catch up on the blog and saw all the posts about Hachikō – virtual hugs to you.
I was reminded of a web page I made several months ago.
TOD members by state. I have 3 folks from NY
Mariele K. – Brooklyn
Layell Deroe – Twitter @layellderoe
LDS – Linda Smith – perissos777@yahoo.com – Harlem
One of the nice things about the NY list is it has one name with an email, and another name with a twitter account. That way the folks who don’t want to reveal either have a contact person they can use to coordinate efforts.
This was originally designed to help folks hook up for OFA events, work on local news, or just provide ” friends to lean on” in a Red state. We could definitely expand it to include support for personal situations as they arise.
I think there are several folks who are willing to be part of a support team who don’t have their name on the list.
If you could check the page found at
http://www.whatisworking.com/2011/10/tod-participants-found-in-states.html
if you are willing to add your name just post contact info below – name on TOD, state you live in, if you feel comfortable include a twitter name and email address. This page is open to the public.
I will check back later today and update the page, if I miss you or if you need to contact me directly I am at whatisworking@gmail.com
Hi WiW,
I just sent you an email to add to to the list of TOD’ers found in states list.
Good morning TOD family. I haven’t been around for a while. I had three health care related meetings last week and more events in the planning stage. As a result, I have fallen behind checking on my favorite site. So I just found out about Hachiko this morning. I am as devastated by this story of how people can be left homeless and without a means to avert such tragedy as I am amazed and hopeful with the response from the family we have here. It proves my belief that people of good will are supporters of our President. Together we can build a society where we all look out for our neighbors. There will always be unfortunate setbacks, but a true community will come together to give a hand to those affected. Hachiko, you will find your family ready to help. I want to help, too. As an animal lover and pet owner (1 dog and 6 cats) I would like to help Tucker. I am hoping he can stay with you in your temporary home so you don’t have to spend money on kenneling and don’t have to be separated. Please send me information – maybe a pet store I could call that would accept my credit card over the phone.
I also face some financial challenges and have only limited means, but I could supply food for Tucker for a few weeks.
Good morning (almost afternoon) TOD.
I just finished reading the comments and I am so relieved that Hachiko and Tucker had a safe night. Please keep us informed & let us know how to help.
So glad to hear Hachiko and Tucker are okay and moving toward a safe landing. Please post paypal info when it becomes available.
This really the best place to be on the web! So many good people here from all over and it’s truly a blessing. Also, I was on Mediaite following a story about The Daily Show and in the comments an audio guy enhanced a witness’ 911 call. Check it out. It’s absolutely bone chilling!

WASHINGTON — Probable GOP nominee Mitt Romney’s central argument for his candidacy, his experience as a private-sector CEO, was shredded Wednesday by Bill Daley, President Barack Obama’s former White House chief of staff — a business executive and former Commerce Secretary.
“Being president is not analogous to being CEO,” Daley told me in an interview. “That’s a fallacy that some people like to continue.”
Especially with an independent-minded Congress, the CEO resume “just has no relevance whatsoever to the modern presidency and the way the government has been structured by the different branches over the last 40, 50 years.”
Daley, in our interview, also for the first time reacted to assertions by Senate Democrats in the new book by journalist David Corn, Showdown, that he was free-lancing in his dealings with GOP House Speaker John Boehner during the 2011 fiscal battles. “I wasn’t ceding anything that wasn’t authorized by the entire White House,” Daley said.

Hi everyone, this thread is getting pretty long so I’ve posted a new one here:
http://theobamadiary.com/2012/04/05/chat-away-36/
Will catch up with you all later.
Yesterday, I made a comment about the TOD community being a family, which several people responded to positively. Little did I know that within hours we would be given an opportunity to display that sense of family to the hilt. I was unable to come on line last night due to 5,000,000 things I had to do, so I didn’t learn about Hachiko’s situation until this morning.
But the repsonse to her distressful situation has been astounding and proves the point I made yesterday. I will be following closely to see how and when I can contribute something to help her along. It looks like she will be heading to Maine, and that might provide her with an employment opportunity that has been missing for her.
Count me in to help Hachiko once a plan has been put together. I know how it feels to be down on your luck!
Could not post yesterday for some reason and haven’t had time to catch up on previous threads, but count me in to help Hachiko.
Hachiko so glad to hear that your neighour was so kind to let you stay the night. I’m in as well to help, take care of your self and blessings to you.
