You’re a gem, Joan Shaw, we LOVE you!
Time to Party Joan. No more mourning. :)
Thank you all! Feel better already!
Hiya Joan, I’m the last one to the party, I completely missed that it was your birthday until a while ago – blush. I hope you’re spoiling yourself and having a glass of wine or three? Have a gorgeous day!
Hope you partied like the world was coming to an end. :)
I love those white shoes!
Joan, just got in and wanted to say Happy Birthday before I miss it altogether. Hope all your wishes come true today. Have a great time.
Happy Birthday fellow Aries. Here’s wishing you loads of smiles and laughter.
Hope you have (had) a wonderful birthday, Joan!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOAN!
Oh my god, those are Sasha and Malia! They’re so little!
And if that’s the President’s 43rd birthday cake, he looked like a baby, only 7 years ago. As in: baby, baby!
Did I just type that?
Must be time for a nap! I’m getting goofy (again).
Happy Birthday, Joan!
Not one gray hair on that handsome head!
Beautiful picture of our First Family.
Joan! You should be First!
Happy Birthday Joan!
It’s also Gregory (who played Atticus Finch in “To Kill a Mockingbird” ) Peck’s birth date.
Well, hey we get a two-fer, don’t we? Time to raise another glass! :-)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOAN…WHAT A CUTE PIC…LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL…PBO..ALMOST BLEW HIS SOX OFF!…PRECIOUS!
Joan! Joan! Joan! Joan!! Wooohooo!!!
Disturbing on some many levels! :-) :-) :-)
Missed Chips’ announcement about the new post on the previous thread, so I’m sliding in this repeat. :-)
As you might know Stephen Colbert is among this year’s Peabody Award winners for his SuperPAC satire. Here’s the complete list of recipients:
The awards will be formally presented at a luncheon ceremony at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City on May 21.
[Zoinks! Trekkie Alert!! OMG, Patrick Stewart is hosting!!]
Nice to see StoryCorps and Homeland (and Jeopardy) get some recognition.
Happy b’day, Joan! Enjoy! :)
Happy birthday, Joan! Wishing a special lady a very special birthday.
How ARE you? Hugs and positive thoughts coming to you! Did you feel our arms around you last night? How’s Tucker?? More hugs for both of you:)
Oh Hachiko! I’ve been so worried about you. Have you some way of getting our money to you? I kept waking up last night. What a joy to hear from you!
Df, we have our arms around you, too, you know that, right?
Thank you, Pamela:) That means the world to me…Hachiko’s frightening plight had me sobbing. We are just that close. Now add children, and it’s a wonder I still can function.
Crying is okay, it can release a lot of pressure building up. I knew you would be in pain over hachiko and Tucker, but felt you must also hear that we have your back, and your family, if it comes to that. But please don’t let it get so bad, tell us before anything really awful might materialize. PBO would want us to do whatever we can, the campaign is going strong. All the varied candidates around the country are reporting record contributions which have shattered their expectations… You will not be forgotten. Peace, breathe, trust. Love to you.
Tears. Thank you, Pamela. What a special family we have made here….
Love you, df!
Well said, Pamela. I’m sure you expressed the sentiments of everyone here. Take heart, desertflower. :)
I just read in the other thread that they will be at miss Pat tonight?….fantastic!!
Hachiko – I’m praying for you and Tucker.
Hang in there – we love you!!!!
Hey Hachiko! Hugs to you!
Happy Bithday Joan!
Why the hell is maintaining and developing a voting system with some integrity so freaking hard?
By Brad Friedman on 4/4/2012 1:08pm
Voted Ballots ‘Remade’ by Election Workers in WI After Being Printed Too Wide for Optical-Scanners
“During yesterday’s Wisconsin primary election, a number of paper ballots were sent out in several counties that were reportedly too wide to be tabulated by the computerized optical-scan systems used to tally ballots in the state. The same exact thing happened just two weeks ago during the Illinois primary sending election officials into a panic and causing delays for some voters. Then, as now, the problem has been chalked up to a paper-cutting error by the printers. Perhaps that’s true, perhaps it’s not. We’ll take them at their word, barring evidence to the contrary. Innocent errors can and do happen.
But whether that’s an accurate explanation or not, one way in which the failure was dealt with in both Illinois and Wisconsin continues to be extremely troubling and, frankly, offense: the practice of election workers manually “remaking” the ballots of voters after the election, in ostensible secret, and before they are tabulated… [snip]
It has become standard practice across the country for election workers to actually create new ballots, by hand, out of ballots that cannot be read by optical-scan tallying computers. The workers either “remake” those ballots correctly or incorrectly. Who knows? In some cases over the years, in places where touch-screen voting machines are used, but have broken down during the day — or in cases were voters preferred to use paper ballots, if allowed — votes cast on paper ballots are later actually punched into touch-screen e-voting systems by election workers. Again, the workers either carry out that sensitive, fraught-with-error operation either correctly or incorrectly. Who knows?
All of that, instead of simply counting such ballots — or, all of them, frankly — publicly, by hand, as per “Democracy’s Gold Standard”, as the bi-partisan election officials in Columbia County, NY now do, or as they were forced to do over the weekend in Palm Beach, FL after the optical-scan computers (the same ones used across almost all of Wisconsin, by the way), actually declared the wrong “winners” in several different races. Was the ballot you cast when you last voted “remade” in secret by someone else after you cast it? If so, was it done accurately? As long as this appalling practice continues, you’ll likely never know.”
In Canada, people use a pen and paper, and ballots are counted BY HAND. People WATCH it happen. It’s not hard, it’s not expensive, and it only takes one night.
Here, we come up with more ways to hack an election every damn year. THAT IS MY BIGGEST FEAR.
The GOP will do ANYTHING and EVERYTHING they can to WIN. That means FRAUD on every level imaginable. Just because you hear about the voter ID laws, doesn’t mean that’s the only way they’re going to try to steal it. They KNOW the numbers are not in their favor. THEY KNOW THAT.
They have NO SHAME, NO INTEGRITY, and NO ETHICS. ZERO. Cheating, and lying are standard operating proceedure. Every single day they project what they’re doing onto their opponants – and they’re not even trying to hide it anymore. Just look at the Romney camp saying that PBO will make the election about RELIGION, which they’ve done that to him since DAY ONE.
If we don’t turn out in GINORMOUS NUMBERS in November, in OVERWHELMING NUMBERS, they will steal this election. You can bet your last dime on it.
Yeah Ms Chips, you are sooooooooooooooooo late with this. By last count, Joan had already had 6,328,432 “happy birthday’s” given to her on the previous threads. But, as the saying goes, better late than never. However, just a warning, if you are late on mine (which you should already have marked on your calendar) I will just have to pout and find another blog to go to.
However, niot to be remiss, Happy Birthday again, young Joan.
How on earth could I ever forget your birthday Peter …. sorry, Jack…. no, William?
Oh My Goodness Chipsticks – ROFL!!!!!!!
Stop, it hurts! Ha ha ha ha ha ha!!! :-D :-D :-D
Here’s another one:

Palm Beach, FL Elections Settled by Hand-Count After Op-Scan Computer Misreported Results
“After admitting a failure in its software caused the problem, Dominion Voting changes its story…
public hand-count of paper ballots in Palm Beach County, FL over the weekend has decisively determined the winners and losers of several disputed elections after paper ballot optical-scan computer tallying systems made by Sequoia Voting Systems (now owned by Dominion Voting) declared the incorrect “winners” of several races in a March 13th election.
But a dispute over who is to blame for the initial failure flared up again over the weekend as Dominion issued a statement that seems to contradict their previous admission that their software was to blame.
“The hand-count was 100%. We weren’t missing a ballot,” the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Susan Bucher told The BRAD BLOG this afternoon about what happened over the weekend. “Frankly, without paper ballots and without audits, we would have let the wrong winners serve.”
What will happen next, however — for Palm Beach County, one of Florida’s largest, as well as the other 285 jurisdictions across the country where the very same voting system is currently in use — is anything but clear…”
[more in the article
Well we don’t have paper ballots in PA and NO WAY to recount, so I wouldn’t be surprised if we routinely let the wrong winners serve. That may explain the disaster that happened to this state in 2010.
Very Happy Birthday to you, our dear Joan:) Many, many more!
Happy Birthday Joan!
Here’s another “Mitt Romney Versus Reality” video :)
Ooops forgot the link – here it is:
Ef liar…it’s pathological…..and he’s going to go on and on till the election with his lies.
I really like these videos which show what a blatant liar willard is
I hope the campaign produce one of these Mitt vs Reality videos everyday. Randi has played the video at least 2 times today. :)
My interview with Super- Duoer Rock Star Nick Haley, a Tea Party favorite and spectacular Governor of South Carolina, up next!
To talk about Womens issues
I cannot stomach him…..
I grew up in the same neighborhood as he did…..
He claims he is from Buffalo, NY…but he really is from a upper middle class suburb…..he was creepy as a kid to.
Lol ”creepy as a kid too”
Yes, but let’s be generous…if YOU had to grow up with the name Wolf, wouldn’t YOU be a bit on the creepy side as well? ;)
After seeing the clip of Haley from “The View” this week, I feel the same way about her as I do Sista Sara. Joy Behr partially set her straight, but she could have gone further, when Haley said that the Government were mandating contraception.
This “Nikki Haley” media blitz is nothing more than a GOP stunt to get women in Romney’s corner. And like many of the GOP short-term stunts, this one will backfire when Ms. Nikki utters some nonsense that’s in line with the GOP’s misogynistic and obsolete school of thought.
What’s with all these supposed GOP rock stars that don’t even raise a pulse and nobody knows about? Blitzer was promoted above his talent a long, long time ago. I find him unbearable.
Climbing Romney Ridge
A Blessed and joyous Birthday to you, Joan!
This made my stomach flip….
‘Long Live Zimmerman’ on Hale Hall, Ohio State’s black cultural center
That is an African American cleaning it off…..Why are people so out of touch….?? I would have refused,,,let the University President scrub the nasty off the wall.
Long live Zimmerman indeed. He is going to live long in solitary confinement. I hoe they have single showers in prison.
the gentleman cleaning off the hate message is an employee of OSU physical facilities which is charged with maintaining campus grounds. I do not know how much leverage he has given that the new radical gop governor is privatizing most of state property (including state univeristies) and laying off workers at public facilities
I just passed Hale Hall a short while ago and I saw packed there trucks for the local news outlets. I did not know what was going on there and I was just returning from a medical procedure just a block away so I was still sore and incapacitated by the aneasthetics. I wish I had stopped to see what this gathering was about.
As an AA, on this campus, this holds a special place for me for it significance. In addition, I have spent many an hour here – and it was the next building to my first residence away from far far far home with room looking out at Hale Hall.
Hale Hall is NOT just any hall on the campus of The Ohio State University. In fact it a place of significance to us African Americans/Blacks and other racial minorities at OSU – it is at the core of minority life at campus.
To think that someone can write such garbage makes me so mad.
Below is the official read out about Hale Hall.
The Hale Black Cultural Center is named in honor of Dr. Frank W. Hale, Jr. who fought to increase opportunities for minority students at The Ohio State University. Dr. Hale was former Associate Dean of the Graduate School, Vice Provost for the Office of Minority Affairs and Special Assistant to the President.
The Hale Center is considered one of the finest Black Cultural Centers in the country.
Thank you for the link…..
This makes my heart hurt. As a student there in the seventies and eighties….AND an employee of OSU Hospitals, it really, really angers and hurts me. OSU has a huge and diverse student population. A campus so huge, and programs so vast, that I am certain that every ethnic group is represented there…every color, every creed. A city unto itself. The fact that ignorance and intolerance in that OSU family did this…sickens me. Sometimes, even on a college campus, the “liberal” bastion….you just can’t fix stupid…and we can’t afford to tolerate hate and ignorance. Shame. Shame. Shame.
These racists want someone to explode. They want someone to do something. We’ve seen this all before. It’s not going to happen. Let them stew in their own bile. This just makes me heart sick. They’re taught to hate by their parents, and the media and the GOP and right wing judges like that fool who gave the DOJ homework. They are no better than animals who can’t think and just run on a hate instinct.
Happy Birthday Joan!!!!
Happy Birthday Joan!!!
Wishing you the best on your birthday Joan
Question: This isn’t the first jobs act PBO has signed since he became pres, right? Why do I remember him singing another jobs act a couple years ago? Am I right?
Our President has signed many job initiatives and this is one of them. This is not really a jobs act – the acronym spells JOBS (Jumpstart Our Businesses). It’s a bill to help new entrepreneurs who otherwise could not get the necessary capital they need to start their small businesses. The expectation is that this will ultimately help to stimulate new hiring and bring additional jobs, but it’s not the American Jobs Act (AJA) that our President proposed in September.
Morning or afternoon all!
Happy Birthday to Joan @TheObamaDiary http://t.co/A0bBcVyg— HSC for Obama 2012 (@pinkbunny70) April 05, 2012
Been a busy day and trying to connect with Hachiko to get Tucker settled into PetsForLife :-)
Hope everyone has a fabulous day, I love how wonderful this community is!!
YOU are so beautiful, pinkbunny!
Beautiful bouquet! You have a wonderful day pinkbunny!
Thank you pinkbunny — they are beautiful!
Hey check this out follks –
CYN (@wary12) is #1 Positive Obama tweeter and OUR TALLY IS # 1 Romney negative tweeter!!!!
No way!!!!!! Tally, you legend!!!!
Alas, our beloved Tally has been overtaken by some poser named bardgal. Who does she think she is? :-)
look at this..
Hey! Looks familiar!
I always thought Tally was bardgal……???
I am confused…
Tally IS bardgal
Ohhhhh, silly me! Always last to know. Thanks! :-)
Go Tally! The Legend Lives On! :-D :-D :-D
Okay, so if I’m reading the chart correctly on this site, PBO has a 66.57% POSITIVE Twitter rating while Romney has a 47.78% NEGATIVE Twitter rating!
Okay, I don’t get how is this considered a positive tweet for Romney (by AVD911 ) instead of a positive one for PBO! Could someone explain how this works please? I’m a Twit-illiterate!
“RT @Messina2012: March auto sales:Chrysler up 34%, GM 12% and Ford 5%. Glad @barackobama didnt take @mittromney advice to let Detroit f …”
I agree. And ADV911 happens to be AAmom who is a TODer and Obamabot, so how could she be the top Romney tweeter? That makes no sense to me.
OK–desertflower–I want to send you some money. Give me a way to do it. You have such a good heart and always have everyone else’s back–let me do something. I don’t have a bunch, but you need some help now. Give me a way to do it. With an address I could send a check.
Dear sweet, auni :) I keep crying, only it’s not so much from sadness, but from the shear compassion from folks that we only know from being in this incredible place. It touches my heart and gives me hope. I so appreciate your kindness, more than you will know, but, for now, I have a roof over my head. I want to make sure that our dear hachiko is safe and cared for. We need to concentrate our efforts on her. I am still fighting on. I get tired, but I have good Italian blood in me that just does not let me stop. My blood boils with righteous anger, and I find the strength from deep inside of me…I have no idea where it comes from. There may be a time for me, but it is not yet.More phone calls to make, more rocks to turn over.
The hardest part is seeing the utter despair and desperation on my husband’s face. Not being able to provide for his family in the way we have always been able to. He is more fatalistic than I am…I just get pissed and get after it.He never thought that I would be able to save our home on the first place:) Tenacious. That’s me!
So, for now….I ask that time pass for a while, with a promise from me that I will reach out for help when/if it becomes time:) You are a kind and generous soul, and I thank you. Just the offer, was worth more than my words can express. Thank you, auni. Thank you:)
Happy happy bday to you, Joan! You’re not an oldie, you’re a goodie! Here’s a toast wishing your next year will be a happy, healthy, and WINNING one! Clink go the wine glasses!
To Joan! CLINK!!
Does anyone have any idea of what this possibly could be about? I’m as clueless as cherry pie tastes good.
Finishing up editing on a big exclusive for tonight's show — a political bombshell about Michigan. 9PM ET, MSNBC.— Rachel Maddow MSNBC (@maddow) April 05, 2012
Oooh, I’m intrigued, have no clue what it might be about??
I only thing I can think of is maybe those ” Emergency Managers ” have been ruled unconstitutional ?
“Emergency manager” issue is my guess. Heck, I hope it’s something even bigger than that. MI and what has happened there has gone under the radar. In many, and different, ways, it’s worse than WI.
You never know with Rachel. She supports the Government only domestically and is at times, cold toward the President!
Right. You never know how the wind will blow with Rachel. i will catch up AFTER her show is over.
HUMMMMMMMMMMMMMM…I thought it was Tim Johnson’s retirement, but he’s from IL…Not that!
I’m in Michigan and I haven’t an idea yet. I know that Detroit City Council has chosen a pretty severe plan over hving a EFM but that doesn’t seem like much of a bombshell. If Carl Levin is retiring I will just die. I hope it’s a GOOD bombshell. And I can’t get her show either, so I’m hoping someone posts about it.

The Energy Department said Thursday it expects to begin tentatively approving new taxpayer-backed loans for renewable energy projects in the coming months.
The announcement comes about seven months after Solyndra, the California solar firm that received a $535 million loan guarantee from the administration in 2009, went bankrupt, setting off a firestorm in Washington.
the rightwingers have tried their best to promote the “Solyndra Scandal” but the public are not buying it. In my state, rove is running commercial about this every other minute and linking it to increasing gas prices but guess whose number continue to rise – PBO of course. in my mind this is a total waste of good money
Linda posted a video above about the “Long-Live Zimmerman ” garbage written on the wall of Hale Halle at The Ohio State Univeristy.
I just passed it a short while back and saw news trucks but did not know WHY. Wish I had stopped but was unwell.
As I have indicated in my post in response to the video above, Hale Hall is the core of minority activities at OSU and it houses the Hale Black Cultural Center.
Well, racists real know how to inflict maximum pain to those they consider less than them.. We have a lot of work to do
Bruce and his mother!
thanks Chips. that was fun!
Thank you Bruce’s Maama for raising such a clear-headed, empathetic and social-evolved son!

THE HAPLESS ROMNEY CAMPAIGN
Frank Rich on the National Circus: Romney Is the Only One Playing ‘Hide-and-Seek’
By Frank Rich
Yesterday Romney accused the president of running a “hide-and-seek” campaign. Is claiming that we still don’t know the “real Barack Obama” a winning play?
This tactic tells us little about Obama but a lot about the continued haplessness of the Romney campaign even as he wins the nomination. “Hide-and-seek” was chosen for no other reason than it’s a three-syllable children’s game that Romney’s handlers hope will vanquish the three-syllable children’s toy “Etch A Sketch” from campaign rhetoric — just as they hope that Obama’s “hot mike” gaffe will make everyone forget their “Etch A Sketch” gaffe. The only problem is that “Etch A Sketch” perfectly and perhaps permanently summed up Romney’s biggest failing as a candidate — his utter lack of a spine. “Hide-and-seek,” by contrast, is a political non sequitur when applied to Obama. The president’s biggest critics may think he’s a socialist or a snob or an appeaser or whatever, but no one thinks he’s “hiding” anything unless it’s the hard-core crazies who think he’s hiding his “real” birth certificate.
I hope that mitt the liar wins 1 state only.
WH having conference on women & economy Friday so reporter asks when WH is having men's conference. "Silly question," replies Carney. True.— Roger Simon (@politicoroger) April 05, 2012
Smacking my damned head.
Reporter? Where? NO self respecting “reporter” would be caught DEAD asking a stupid ass question like that! Jerkass.
That ‘reporter” (and I use that word advisedly) was Ed “Cheshire Cat” Henry. He could barely hide the smirk on his face. This is what passes for journalism these days. At the root of every question is some GOP complaint or criticism of the White House. I don’t think the jackals are capable of formulating questions on their own. They are too lazy. This exchange was just remarkable.
Q Jay, thank you. I want to go back to the women’s conference on Friday. There’s a pretty obvious political strategy from Chicago to exploit the gender gap that you have. It’s in a lot of public polls that women, by a wide margin, are supporting the President over Mitt Romney or any other Republican paired up against him. Why are you using the White House on Friday to stage an event that clearly has some political implications?
MR. CARNEY: Ed, by that — you’re saying that anything that has to do with women has political — so anything that has to do with growing the economy, because I think every political analyst out there would say that a stronger recovery would be good for the President politically, or anything that has to do with job creation is inherently political because more jobs would be good for the President.
Q So what day are you having a men’s conference on the economy? (Laughter.)
MR. CARNEY: Well, stay tuned. Ed, that’s kind of a silly question.
Q — because you’re only focused on half of the population.
MR. CARNEY: This administration has engaged in a number of policy approaches designed to address women in the economy, including the very first bill that the President signed into law, the Lilly Ledbetter Act — Fair Pay Act — and there are a variety of initiatives that this administration has put forward that deal with issues of concern to women in particular. There is the Violence Against Women Act. We have an office overseen by the Vice President’s office that deals with that legislation. So these are important policy initiatives; that’s why we’re having the conference.
Q I completely agree that women’s issues are important. I’m just wondering why you’re only focusing in this conference on women’s issues because men obviously have a role in the economy, you would agree.
MR. CARNEY: So why are we focusing on small businesses with a Small Business Job Creation Act? Are we discriminating against big businesses? We’re focusing on women because there are a number of issues that are important with regards to women in the economy, women’s safety, women in education, that are very distinct and important, and we’re proud to host the conference.
what a fecking idjit. go suck an egg, henry.
Jay deserves an award for putting up with that lunacy. How many Republicans have voted for bills that had to do with jobs, the “economy” (whatever that means), or women since President Obama took office. In fact, how many Republicans have voted for any of these things that actually, demonstrably improved jobs, the “economy” or women in the last 40 years? The fact that someone does something tangible and effective does not make it political. The fact that someone takes action does not make it political. When someone objects to something good simply for political gain – that’s what makes it political.
Ed Henry is a fool.
