Oh, you’re up, ‘Honey’? I’m so happy you’re okay. Would you like a drink of water? You can’t touch me, Babe. ;) I’m still bouncing around on my chair in glee.

“Sing it loud! Shout it out!
            VC is the winner yet!

Sing it loud! Shout it out!
She conquered Chips without a doubt!

            Go VC!
            Go VC!
            Yeah, Yeah. Yeah!”

BTW, Ms Chips, 2 out of 4 (January to April) is 50% which is a good polling percentage; not great, but good! I’m on a roll!

Thanks for the TOD prized picture. [ps. NEXT TIME though just give me a PBO+baby picture. This one is so well loved and coveted here that I don't want any of my naughty mat siblings to get jealous of me.]

I know!!!!! I’m so excited!!! I can’t believe it’s 2 hours! The previews look sooooooo good! Looks like Carlene got the DCT (Dick Cheney Treatment). I love her, but she deserves it.
ps- thanks for the scoop about the second Scandal episode. It was so unexpected and cool. I watched it at work because things were kinda slow..
                  pps- okay, don’t crucify me or anything, but when Kerri Washington first started coming ’round the WH, I was like: “why is she always there? I hope she doesn’t have a crush on PBO or anything cause she ain’t gonna be no Monica Lewinsky 2.0. Sheeaat! :roll: I was still suspicious of her and I admit, I still am cause I don’t like any woman around PBO who isn’t his wife or family or a family friend. SO, imagine my shock when last night I watched the first episode of Scandal and saw that Little Ms. Washington’s character had been having an affair with the leader of the free world. I tell you, I was not amused. However, her acting abilities were good enough and the plot was exciting enough to make me ease up a little. But I’m still watching her from the corner of my eyes. mmm hm. I’m watching Little Ms. Thang. Bettah believe it. {{{{neck roll}}}

Mitt Romney’s latest campaign video, simply titled “Family,” has a decidedly retro feel — and not just because it consists mostly of silent Super 8 footage and old yellowing family photographs featuring some spectacular ’70s fashions.

The whole image projected in the video by narrator Ann Romney, Mitt’s official Female Ambassador, is evocative of a different era — she describes waiting at home with her sons for Mitt to return from work, at which point he’d become child-like himself — wrestling, throwing balls and pulling pranks.

The video was released just as President Obama wrapped a speech kicking off the White House Forum on Women and the Economy, in which he too talked extensively about family. Both Obama’s speech and Romney’s video painted a picture of two candidates with unquestionable devotion to their families — but the dynamics, and the messengers, were starkly different.

      April 6, 2012 at 8:51 pm

Although it is good to do, I am sure a lot of familes don’t have that same luxury of coming home wrestling with kids and pulling pranks because they are to exhausted from work. Mittens sat in his office, bought companies and walked off with huge profits daily. I am sure he was bursting with all kinds of energy at the end of the day. :)

nospin, I was thinking THE EXACT SAME THING!!. First of all, this was HOW MANY years ago? Second, who can have six kids these days and only one working parent?

YES. And real poeple that either decide or because of circumstances have a stay-at-home parent sacrifice, sacrifice, SACRIFICE. There’s nothing wrong with a stay-at-home parent either way and they DO A LOT. BUT IT’S HARD for most folks.

            HELLO!?

            ASSHOLES. I CANNOT STAND IT.

            • 80 isonprize
              April 6, 2012 at 10:51 pm

Yeah, mag. I meant no disrepect at all to stay-at-home parents. But SIX KIDS? That’s a lot of sacrificing for the type of families that I know. I have one friend with six children and, she even jokes that she’s not entirely sure how she had the last one, because she works nights, and he works days! She’s gonna have to quit or cut-back next when the oldest goes off the college, because the oldest is her “driver” to get 2 of the babies to school and their activities.

She only stayed home as long as her maternity leave allowed.

        • 81 nospin
          April 7, 2012 at 12:35 am

actually she has 5 boys but she counts Mitt as the 6th child. And he is too simple to know that is an insult.

How the heck can a grown man be comfortable to have his wife create an ad letting the whole world know she considers him to be one of her kids. Especially when she showed pics of them in grade school.

      • 82 hopefruit2
        April 6, 2012 at 9:50 pm

It’s all about copying President Obama and his family. Part of the appeal of Obama’s family is watching the little girls grow up into young ladies, so Romney wants to pretend that his adult sons are still little boys that America wants to see grow into young men….

        • 83 anniebella
          April 6, 2012 at 9:56 pm

As you struggle to make ends meet, who want to see some family who was raised with a silver spoon in their mouth.Ask the folks who lost their jobs thanks to Romney firing them if they came home playing with their boys after Bain Capital fired them.

    • 84 anniebella
      April 6, 2012 at 9:51 pm

What is it with Ann Romney and Mitt Romney, this has nothing to do with Mitt Romney’s devotion to his family, it’s about what his policies will do to every poor and middle class families. Will it make their lives better or worse.

  12. 93 japa21
    April 6, 2012 at 8:51 pm

I can’t remember the last time I was first. Of course, I’m getting to the point I can’t remember what I had for lunch today.

Lots of stuff happening today. A jobs report that was not “bad” but definitely not what was hoped for. More examples of Romney being congenitally incapable of telling the truth and displaying an arrogant disregard for the American public. A media that again has shown that truth and facts are something they consider basically irrelvant. And a President that somehow shines through and above it all.

A quick note about some of the things and comments I read in reaction to the jobs report here and elsewhere. And, no, it wasn’t an epidemic of chicken littling, but it was still there in a lot of folks. This is the type of situation I mentioned in that one post Chips was kind enough put up. We face bad news, and we will face a lot more between now and November We can do all the “Oh no”s we want, but that won’t accomplish anything other than to increase worry and concern and that decreases confidence and action.

Instead, we need to look at things like the jobs report today and ask ourselves, “How can I make this into an opportunity?” We all know that the recovery would be much faster if the Republicans weren’t using every opportunity at thir disposal to sabotage it. We know that if even half of th public sector employees that were let go in the last 15 months were still working, the unemployment rate would be at least 1 point lower.

So let’s use this as an opportunity to get out there and let people know the facts, since the media won’t. Write LTE’s. Go on newspaper websites and add comments to articles, commentaries and other LTEs expalining the truth. Let people know that the Reagan recovery was fueled by increasing the number of public sector employees and raising taxes and increasing government spending.

Chips, I have a suggestion that you can take or lave, but I would like to see on the sidebar a posting just for ideas that can b added to on a constant basis. Ideas on how to combat the lies, the ineffective media, the large money machines and the hate. People can contribute their ideas and read others. Some may work, many may not.

John 8:32 “you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.”

Not everybody responds to the truth, but some will. We have to get it out there any way we can. And we need to challenge the Republicans currently in Congress any way we can. I plan on attending as many as Joe Walsh’s town hall meetings as I can and ask him questions. I am going to ask him what return I have gotten on my investment in him. After all, I help pay his salary, his staff’s salary, his mailing full of lies, his health insurance, I want to know what I have gotten in return. A lot of the TPers that were elected in 2010 got elected because not enough people challenged them and the TPers comprised most of the audience at their events. They tended to drown out and intimidate others. They will not drown me out or intimidate me. Never again.

    ALEC loses its anonymity

    By Steve Benen

    ——————————————-

But there are exceptions. The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) has traditionally been anonymous, working behind the scenes to advance a far-right agenda far from the public spotlight — which was always the intended plan. Shadowy obscurity allowed ALEC to be more effective and made it easier for lawmakers to follow the group’s lead without controversy.

That’s quickly changing as ALEC finds itself where it didn’t want to be: in the spotlight.
    .
    .
Either way, ALEC’s role in American life has been important for a while now. The difference is, Americans are starting to hear about it, and businesses are starting to reconsider their support.

    ALEC EXPOSED (The Shadow Government)

    ——————————-

Through the corporate-funded American Legislative Exchange Council, global corporations and state politicians vote behind closed doors to try to rewrite state laws that govern your rights. These so-called “model bills” reach into almost every area of American life and often directly benefit huge corporations. In ALEC’s own words, corporations have “a VOICE and a VOTE” on specific changes to the law that are then proposed in your state. DO YOU?

Comment I caught on Mother Jones….

Featured Comment: I am an active Mormon who will not be voting for Mitt. I voted for Obama last time and I will do so again. Mitt may be my brother, but we have definite political differences. My vote in Utah won’t be worth a hill of beans, but until we get a real “every vote counts” system I’ll just have to, well, vote my conscience. —PepektheAssassin

Was there this much outrage from the right wing when Newt Gingrich said he would have justices come before a panel to “explain” their decisions? or suggest that they be thrown off the bench? they grumbled a little but nothing like this.

So April 3rd has come and gone. That was the deadline for reaching the 25,000 signature threshold for the We The People petition to ask Leon Panetta to consider removing Rush Limbaugh from Armed Forces Radio. At some point we will then get a formal response from someone in the Administration. I doubt we will be happy with the response, but at least we made our feelings known. Interestingly, there was a counter-petition put up on March 10th to keep RL on AFR. They have four days to collect 23,182 signatures. Good luck with that.

    WILLARD’S ‘FAMILY’ VIDEO.

so all this time, I’ve despised Mrs. Money and been very skeptical that she could be the closer that our Miche is. However, being as I’ve never really seen her in action, I was a little bit concerned that perhaps the LazyShitheads aka National Media had stumbled upon something I had gleefully missed i.e.: that she had charisma, was charming, could connect well with others, etc. So, mindful that I’ve never given Mrs. Money’s personality more than a silver farthing’s worth of thought, slightly anxious that my dismissal of her had allowed me to overlook some graceful aspect of Herself–Queen Money aka Queenie— I clicked on Willard’s ‘Family’ vid and watch—without any preconceived desire to hate it or to laugh.
I got through the video and as objectively as I could, without any of the nastiness I’m usually dishing out, I said to myself: “this is it?” My brows clinched together as I frowned and I wondered aloud: “this is what they’ve got to compete against Miche?” Nothing about what she said connected with me and it wasn’t because her last name is Willard and she could stomach Willard’s touch enough times to birth 5 Willard Jrs. It didn’t connect with me because though it’s nice that Willard cares for his kids, she’s not telling us anything worth telling. We all assume that most people love their kids and engage they in work and play. I guess what the video was supposed to show was a different side of Willard, but it didn’t make me like him any better. It didn’t make me like Mrs. Money any better either as evidenced by the fact that I’m still calling her Mrs. Money.
There was nothing out of the ordinary about that story. There was nothing new or exciting about that story. There was nothing in that ‘Family’ video that made me ease back on my heels and say: “you know what, Willard is a mother f**king liar but you know what, I’m gonna vote for him.” Also, it just further illustrated what a life of luxury they had. Even in the 70’s women where joining the workforce and coming home to take care of their kids. How many of the average voters now can watch that video and empathize with Mrs. Money? None. They’ll look at that video and say: “fuck that. what century is she from? How nice to stay at home and take care of her children. I wish I could do that. Instead I work 40-50 hours a week and come home to deal with my kids, help them with home work, and do house work and deal with my idiot husband.” Whoever-the-fuck’s idea it was to do this little “privileged wife” video needs to be fired cause this was the stupidest move I’ve ever seen made. Today’s women don’t have the luxury of staying home with their little monsters. They go out and work to support their kids and come home and raise them right. So, to summarize all this: For anyone concerned, LazyShitheaded Media, I’m talking to you: Mrs. Money is nothing to worry about. Don’t sweat it.

I couldn’t imagine birthing and raising 5 kids, much less staying at home with them most days everyday. On the one hand, it’s a very courageous move to do so however, my point was that if they are trying to appeal to the women of today, this was no the route Mrs. Money should have taken. First of all, this video should have been about her. Instead of making her husband out to be “Wonder Daddy,” she should have talked more about being a young mother of 5 and the difficulties that many women face when raising kids and wanting them to be productive human beings who contribute to society. She should have talked about nights spent helping with homework, the struggles of being a homemaker but how fulfilled she was because she knows her boys are strong intelligent men who work hard everyday to make the world a better place. She should embrace the “Mom-in-Chief” role like Miche did. Miche made no bones that her number one job now is making sure her kids are healthy productive individuals. That’s her main focus. If they wanted Mrs. Money to be a contender, this video was not the way to do it. But you are right, motherhood—whether it’s in the form of a stay at home mom or a working mother–is hard stuff and it does take sacrifice. However, Mrs. Money is still an unlikable Society Broad.

Given that her kids are fully grown and she’s actually a grandmother now, it’s a bit ridiculous to show us videos from 30 years ago and expect any of that to be relevant in this day and age. She hasn’t been a young mother in an entire generation. She doesn’t have any of the challenges of most people. When she comes up against First Lady Michelle Obama, who’s a “stay at home Mom”, raising two little girls, still trying to be relevant and useful, making strong headway helping veterans, their families, children and ordinary people – it’s a no brainer.

They can take this Romney “magic” and stuff it.

Lisa, you really are a marvel. I love to read your posts. In the 70’s I was working full-time, coming home, making dinner, helping with homework, dealing with husband’s issues and falling into bed exhausted each night. Weekends were a whirlwind of kids soccer or baseball games, endless chores, housework, etc. I never had the luxury of being a stay home mom nor did the hundreds of other women I’ve worked with over the years. So, yeah, who is this going to appeal to? The Republican fantasy family that can only survive with millions in the bank. The moneyed moms who live in gated communities and have housekeepers and a couple of nannies. And we all know how big a percentage of the population that group represents.

Oh, Jackie. I really admire your courage and strength. They say that married women with children who also work, always have a second shift. The first is their paid job where they work from 9-5 and then the second shift starts when they get home to deal with the house and kids. I can’t imagine what that must be like but I’m always in awe of the women who do this. Your kids must be pretty proud of you. You sound like a great mom.

For 3 years I don’t think I got more than four hours sleep any night. The day I turned my last papers in & finished, Hubby asked me what I planned to do now. My reply was: “Sleep for at least a month”

        April 7, 2012 at 12:48 am

        Jackie,
I moved around a lot with my husband, in and out of Canada, so when were were not in Canada, I could not work and got to be a stay at home mom. It was wonderful to be with the kids, but we had no money to do anything. We lived paycheck to paycheck, used up all our savings from Canada, and we had a big medical bill to pay when I had my daughter in Texas. It was no picnic, constantly penny pinching, etc.
When we got back to Canada, I would work, at night, and take care of the kids by day, difficult, but better.
Then when we moved to California, I got my teaching credential (after my green card) and could finally work full time. My kids were in middle school and high school, so it was good to be out of the house.

Now I’m an American and my husband and I are empty nesters, 2 kids in college, one finished college and out on his own, and although we still have little money (our kids are in college), I am so thankful I have a job as we have not saved for retirement which is only 10-12 years away.

I’ve lived in both worlds and my take is: “the grass appears to be greener on the other side” until you get there. What Ann Romney lacks is the fact that many, many people have never been even close to what she had as a young mother, so why go there?

Lisa, you speak for me. Tell Willard that voters want him to release his tax returns, and not silly manipulative videos of his affluent family many decades ago at a time that bore little resemblance to current times and to what the majority of families are grappling with right now.

      • 146 lisalovesobama
        April 6, 2012 at 10:37 pm

can you believe his campaign’s nerve? Not releasing anymore tax info? Idiot! didn’t he learn anything from the bert cert thing? Does he thing Dems are gonna let him go without his tax forms? If he were smart, he’d get it out of the way now so that most of the heat he’ll feel with happen sooner rather than later. Plus, an early release would give him more time to come up with a story that’s not believable, but slightly tolerable enough that most people wont hold how he made his money against him. However, typical Willard the Backyard Bully decides to piss in the wind. Not smart.

First, lisa, thank you for watching the video so some of the rest of us didn’t have to. Second, I think the most distasteful thing I’ve heard Willard say yet about his wife is that when she was first diagnosed with her illness (which I believe is MS), he said he didn’t care if she cooked for them again, they’d be willing to “eat bologna sandwiches.” Now, I was thinking isn’t the guy worth $250M? Couldn’t he bring in someone to cook for the family, when she was ill? I just find all of the Romneys too yuckish for words.

hahahhahahahahahahhahahha! Now, to the contrary, if I saw President Obama walking down the street, I’d just faint. And everybody would run over me, trying to get to him. I’ll take that scenario over the other, any day.

    • April 6, 2012 at 10:23 pm

Well, you’ve summed it up Lisa. I mean, this looked more like something you would put out at the Republican National Convention in Tampa later on, not now. I mean, I’m not a woman and I’m not trying to gauge anyone’s perspectives here, but that video seemed condescending at the very least. I mean, like everyone above said, “What woman could be a stay at home mother with five kids like that and have their husbands be the sole breadwinner?” It did nothing to really address women or anything. It seemed more intent on telling us that Willard Mitt Romney is not that stiff beanpole with his kids, unlike with his possible constituents. Look, I understand Willard is using Ann as a goodwill ambassador for himself, but she’s not running for President of the United States of American or for that matter, Co-President of the U.S. for American Women. President Obama is ACTUALLY talking to women, and listening to women, along with Michelle, as well as separate from Michelle. Vice President Biden is even talking and listening with Dr. Jill and probably separate from her as well. Willard needs to speak to women about their issues, and seeing as how he said he’d get rid of Planned Parenthood and such, he has to climb a steep hill before he has that credibility.

Ann and Mitt Romney don’t get it. As I have said before it is about Mitt’s policies. Okay Ann survive breast cancer, but I bet she had great health insurance where she didn’t have to worry about what kind of medical care she was getting. She didn’t have to worry about losing everything, including maybe her life. Now think about the women who depend on Planned Parenthood to get their healthcare, well Ann’s husband want to get rid of it. Think about Medicare and Medicaid, where lots of women depend on for healthcare, Ann’s husband supports Paul Ryan’s budget who will get rid of Medicare and Medicaid. Ann’s husband supported the Blunt Amendment, Ann’s husband support taking away women’s birth control, women’s right to choose. Women would be affected by cuts in education. So Ann and Mitt don’t get it, put out all the family films they want, it still won’t change the fact that during this GOP campaign Mitt Romney have stood up and boldly said that he supported this Republican War on Women. Just look at the bills Governor Walker of Wisconsin just sign, and they say their is no war on women. They are lying.

Thanks for the review lisa. What a fascinating analysis. I guess next we can expect a film about Mitt Romney’s accomplishments as governor of Massachusetts and CEO of Bain. He criticizes President Obama for everything under the sun and then shamelessly copies everything he does. There is nothing original or creative about the Romney campaign. They are clearly following the strategy of the 2008 campaign focusing on delegates. They copy PBO’s successful campaign and at the same time claim he is a disaster as president. Hypocrisy, thy name is Mitt Romney.

Sotomayor reflects on her law career

Justice’s visit to Penn ends a week of celebrations to open a new hall.

    By Chris Mondics

    INQUIRER STAFF WRITER

There she sat on stage at the Irvine Auditorium, among friends and far from the political maelstrom of Washington.

Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, who only last week sought with colleagues to unpack the legal complexities of President Obama’s health-care overhaul during three historic days of oral arguments, arrived on Thursday at the University of Pennsylvania campus to mark the opening of a new building and unspool reflections on the law and the state of legal education.

Along the way, Sotomayor, who graduated from law school at a time when no woman had yet been named to the Supreme Court and when there were precious few female appellate lawyers, offered a brief tutorial on how to forge a legal career.

I wrote a comment a while ago about how FLOTUS inspired me to move with her ”lets move” program.

So my mini rebounder is still in the entrance between my living room and kitchen…..its still the rule of the house, if you go in the kitchen or out, you have to jump…haha….so I use it regularly, although I almost broke all my teeth not too long ago because I started to jump on the rebounder and one of my cat decided to join me, I tripped on him and fell on the floor…

    That was very gracious…..

I was more worry about him than me, I had a nice little bump on my forehead though.

So I wanted to add something…..I hate exercises with a passion, I would have to be drag to a gym by force to even go there.

It has to be fun….fun stuff.

So last week I bought 3 hula hoops…..I used to be good when I was like….12!

So I got home and told my sons…..”look what I bought guys, one each, I need motivation, we all going to do this together”….

Ok that didn’t go too well…..they looked at me, well after rolling their eyes, they said:…

”OK you’re joking right?, no way in hell……you’re on your own mom, ”…. …..arrhhhhh…

So I have been practicing all week, 10 20 minutes here and there…..I checked on youtube to get the technique.

I can’t even describe how bad I am at this……my lower back is on fire tonight, so sore…..it hurt!

It’s not sore because I moved my hips too much, it’s because I picked up the stupid thing off the floor a gazillion times…
    I just can’t do it.

Now I don’t know if I have to put something hot like a heat pad or cold on my lower back…..I think I’ll learn how to play bridge instead.

I think my mistake was that I didn’t let my body rest enough, that nasty flu knocked me out completely, when the fever dropped, the sinus infection kicked in, it was painful but at least I could do my stuff, slowly. Catch up on my office work, do my errands. I wanted to move to get some energy back….it didn’t work too good,.

    Must Read by Jared Bernstein..

    http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/blogs/national-affairs/obama-and-gop-offer-two-visions-of-america-were-in-it-together-vs-youre-on-your-own-20120404

According to Rep. Ryan’s plan, the trouble is this: The poor and middle class have too much and the rich have too little. And his budget solves this problem very effectively, by eviscerating government programs that benefit the non-rich and using the “savings,” mostly via tax cuts, to further enrich the wealthiest households.

The contrasting vision recognizes that the wealthiest households are doing great, while the poor and middle class are still struggling with high unemployment, stagnating incomes, insecure health coverage, and just the basic squeeze of trying to make ends meet, save for the future, help the kids get ahead, and so on.

And this vision sees government as having a role in correcting, at least in part, this imbalance. As Obama said in yesterday’s speech, citing a Republican president, Abraham Lincoln, “Through government, we should do together what we cannot do as well for ourselves.”

The whole thing is worth the read

But every time I see you online, see your name…..I take one!!…it’s like a reminder…..no joke! I think I did it 5 to 6 times already.

      Thanks lol

I am glad that you take your vitamins. My eldest daughter is pretty good about taking hers and my youngest takes them if she thinks that she thought of it herself. I just take mine and have learned to keep my mouth shut as they both say that I nag them about taking vitamins. My husband says the same thing. I just know the benefits of a good basic multi-vitamin and minerals too. But I digress. Oh well. (smile)

For those of you still up who enjoy some good ” sangin’ ” and like it with a slow groove, here’s a live performance by two of my favorites – Lalah Hathaway is joined by Rahsaan Patterson (he comes in at 7:40). There’s a bit of crowd distraction, but still worth every sublime moment.

    Enjoy!

very nice…Lalah Hathaway…..I am still up in SoCal. It’s only 11:45PM. It’s a Friday night and I am just catching up on all the threads today. What a week huh, it’s never a dull moment in the USA when theirs a Presidential election.

I might be the last this time!

Hey JoJo. Never a dull moment indeed. Glad you like my girl (and my guy).
I dunno what the heck I’m doing still up. Restless, I guess. I think I’m gonna go pretend I’m asleep until I actually do sleep. :-)

Wishing you sweet dreams! Catch you next time.

Dudette, always finding the “choice” clipsl :-) Love Lalah and Rashaan particularly live since these two always enhance their music when they perform live, because they can “sang” and then some….They both can also sing other people’s songs and claim them as their own too, because they are THAT talented. Thanks for posting… :-)

I love PBO’s humble approach to our shared belief. I, too, am a Christian and he inspires me in his Christian walk. He remembers the least among us, and he walks in love. I will continue to keep him in prayer as he looks very tired to me. Lord, you know all hearts, thank you for keeping the President close to your energizing spirit and watching over his safety and health. I ask this in the name of the risen Lord Jesus. Amen.
