fit for office

President Barack Obama does push ups on the White House Basketball Court after a member of the Harlem Globetrotters made a shot, April 9, 2012. The President participated in “Shoot for Strength”, a game where children did push ups for every basketball shot made by the pros, during the 2012 White House Easter Egg Roll festivities. seeing our kay there is great, but i just noticed something when watching this again. about the 42 second mark, one of those freakazoid parents comes running into the frame from the left side (her daughter has a red jacket), who treat their child(ren) as accessories. i assume many of the parents here know what i’m talking since you see a handful of these parents at any school function or playground. the mom literally throws her daughter into the picture (actually hitting another kid who was already there), and the daughter is obviously having a really hard time (probably just overstimulated).

PBO seems to notice what’s happening, and goes out of his way to try and calm the girl and give the mom what she wants at the same time (a picture with her daughter and PBO). it’s amazing to me to see the president of the united states, amidst all that chaos at the event, be so in touch with what’s happening around him with each individual, and still trying to make things better for each person. not that any of us here are surprised by it, but it’s always great to see! amazing.

      and congrats again to collegekay!

      • April 9, 2012 at 9:10 pm

What a great spot 4more, I was too busy looking for Collegekay, I completely missed that! Freakazoid is just about the perfect description, the mother was so hyper it’s hardly a wonder that her girl was stressed. And it is amazing how PBO noticed and tried to calm the girl with pats on the back and then on her head.

Great spotting 4more. I hate pushy moms like her. If I were him, I would be giving her the witch eyes. But Obama hardly gives her a glance and seems concerned about the girl.

Each day the Obamas re-write the book on First Couples. I hope that the couple that comes after they have completed 8 years is as authentic, open, caring, and as much fun as they are, but I do not see how it is possible. I just really respect and admire the entire family, Bo included.

Father, In the Name of Jesus, I pray for President Obama’s safe trip all the way to, during and all the way back from Colombia. God, thank You for show such lovingkindness and tender mercy to him even more coming from him. Keep him always in safe places and in the right places at the right times. Lord, thank You for granting him wisdom, protection, safety and complete and total favor in dealing with the leaders of this country. Thank you that the warring angels are continually around him and thwarting every possible danger. Keep him from all hurt harm and danger and I bind any hindrances from him and loose blessings to him and First Lady Obama, Malia, Sasha, Mrs. Robinson and Bo. To You is all the power and glory for answering this prayer. AMEN!!!!

Residents and visitors of Washington, D.C., might see an unfamiliar sight in the sky next Tuesday: a space shuttle.

NASA announced Monday that the Space Shuttle Discovery will fly approximately 1,500 feet above various parts of the nation’s capital on April 17. As a point of reference, the Washington Monument is about 555 feet tall.

While the exact route is still to be determined, the shuttle — strapped atop the space agency’s custom Boeing 747 — should fly over the National Mall, National Harbor and Reagan National Airport. The shuttle will end its journey at Dulles International Airport, where it will be transferred to the Smithsonian’s nearby Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Center.

By JONATHAN FAHEY, AP Energy Writer – 1 day ago
NEW YORK (AP) — The U.S. natural gas market is bursting at the seams.
So much natural gas is being produced that soon there may be nowhere left to put the country’s swelling surplus. After years of explosive growth, natural gas producers are retrenching.
The underground salt caverns, depleted oil fields and aquifers that store natural gas are rapidly filling up after a balmy winter depressed demand for home heating.
The glut has benefited businesses and homeowners that use natural gas. But with natural gas prices at a 10-year low — and falling — companies that produce the fuel are becoming victims of their drilling successes. Their stock prices are falling in anticipation of declining profits and scaled-back growth plans.
Some of the nation’s biggest natural gas producers, including Chesapeake Energy, ConocoPhillips and Encana Corp., have announced plans to slow down.
“They’ve gotten way ahead of themselves, and winter got way ahead of them too,” says Jen Snyder, head of North American gas for the research firm Wood Mackenzie. “There hasn’t been enough demand to use up all the supply being pushed into the market.”

    http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5haQlA-oNeXqU1oURtMIF_Qzzu3Kg?docId=bdfac10c4c0a4a8eb7d7b3a4eb586fac

That maybe the answer? Natural gas instead of oil. It burns 50% cleaner and their is an abundance of it.
    Hmmm!

ACLU, NAACP will sue over Pennsylvania voter-ID law

By Amy Worden INQUIRER HARRISBURG BUREAU

HARRISBURG – Critics of the month-old voter-identification law are poised to challenge it in the courts and General Assembly.

The American Civil Liberties Union says it will file suit over the law’s constitutionality by the end of April, and two Philadelphia Democrats are set to introduce a bill Tuesday that would repeal the controversial measure.

“There is no basis for the law in the first place. No clear fraud across the state was ever demonstrated,” said Rep. Dwight Evans, who is to appear with Rep. John Myers at a news conference Tuesday at the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation office at 7121 Ogontz Ave. in West Oak Lane.

The ACLU, along with the NAACP, says it will sue on grounds the law discriminates against voters, especially the elderly, the poor, urban residents, and the disabled.

    April 9, 2012 at 10:07 pm

Just dawned on me with Mike Wallace’s passing that once – as a civilian public affairs officer working at a Navy organization in the late ’90s – I had to tell a reporter from 60 Minutes that we weren’t interested in their sharing our story on their upcoming show. It was a good story, but not something headquarters folks wanted to put on that show, at that time, because they wanted coverage of something more broad and “high tech,” for better bragging rights (the one they wanted to cover was more a local story), which was totally reasonable.

The reporter said to me on the phone when I told her, “Well, when I tell my producer, he’s going to wonder what your organization has to hide from 60 Minutes.” And I said, “Well, obviously, we’re not hiding anything because we just allowed that entire story to run on Jim Lehrer’s show, and we thought that coverage was excellent. And we would love to invite you back for an exclusive on something else. May I call you?”

And then my whole short, dull life flashed before my eyes.

So, after I had to make several phone calls up the public affairs chain to report how it went, I then had to sit and wait for the Sunday show, through the whole hour, wondering if they were going to mention my organization, because I was pretty sure I’d be fired if I hadn’t handled it right and embarrassed the Navy!!! Luckily, no mention, and I could just happily report to work on Monday, still gainfully employed. That show scared lots of people, even the “not guilty”!

I think I need a little wine, just replaying that in my mind. Ha!

    • April 9, 2012 at 10:13 pm

I’ve never been a fan of 60 minutes. I’ve talked to people who have told me how they’ve watched actual interviews in person be butchered and edited to support a meme. We’ve seen it happen to President Obama…we seen a complete interview turned into a hatchet job. 60 minutes did a number on Jeffery Wigand. Their credibility was shot with me back in the 80′s. NOT a Mike Wallace fan at all.

      • 140 jacquelineoboomer
        April 9, 2012 at 10:18 pm

Hence, my thoughts about the wine, due to the memory, since I hardly ever drink. They don’t always play fair, that’s for sure. And sometimes it’s extremely hurtful to innocent people.

Tien, I use to be an avid fan and never missed 60 minutes. Now I randomly watch it. One of the interviews done with PBO turned me off. I get so sick of the MSM parroting republican talking points.

I’ve always felt that Mike Wallace was a bastard, but I have to give him his due now. He would have never allowed these sorry assed Repugs to get away with lies and bullshit. The current crop of so-called “journalists” care about nothing but who’s paying their salary. Whores one and all.

Totally agree. I do think Mike was a Democrat, wasn’t he? Didn’t that come out and cause embarrassment to his son Chris over on FOX? Not sure.

This week, Americans around the country are finishing up their taxes for the year. But tax season is just beginning for Mitt Romney, as Democrats put his personal finances front and center in their general election campaign.

Romney hit arguably the low point of his presidential campaign when he told Republican voters in South Carolina that he wouldn’t release his tax returns yet out of fear the Obama campaign would pick them apart. GOP voters weren’t happy with his explanation and dealt him a devastating primary loss days later. Romney backtracked and released his 2010 return and 2011 estimate shortly afterward.

Now as the nomination seems close, Romney’s prediction has come true. The Obama campaign is launching a multi-pronged effort to highlight Romney’s low 13.9 percent tax rate, demand close to two dozen years of additional returns and request more information about his foreign assets.

collegekay–I’m having a hard time getting my mind around that the cute little girl in the pictures at the White House is the same person who writes such knowledgeable and well thought out posts. It can be your secret weapon. You look all young and sweet—then BAM–here comes the article that exposes corruption and fraud. HA!

Award-winning broadcaster Tavis Smiley and Cornel West, one of the nation’s leading intellectuals are touring the country addressing the issue of rising poverty in the United States.

The dynamic pair will be in Los Angeles on April 15th as part of their book tour, “The Rich and The Rest of Us: A Poverty Manifesto Book Tour“.

I guess they replaced their bus tour for a book tour…….I thought they were done with that.

    Money money money

    I can’t stand them…..grrrrrr

“The Rest of Us” ??? Suddenly these grifters are ‘rest of us’?

Hope their audience is ready with rotten eggs.

      • April 10, 2012 at 12:34 am

Amk for obama, how right you are in your comment. At least ‘poor people’ do not sell their souls so they can be fed. The poor have a goodness within their spirit to know the difference between being ‘real humans’ and not having, or having ‘a shell ‘ with ugly flesh covering it with nothing but hate and bitterness to survive on. And that is truly sad.

Tavis and Cornel have become as stinking rotten souls that no man, poor or rich should ever have to listen to.

If one can’t bring provisions, hope, and compassion of good deeds to a “poor” person’s spirit, body, mind, and soul, then do not bother, my brothers: Tavis and Dr. Cornel. The humble and meek shall inherit the earth, not Tavis and Cornel’s empty platitudes.HZ

Focusing on What’s Important in the Trayvon Martin Case

One of the sadder aspects of Trayvon Martin’s death is how it’s becoming a touchstone for a nebulous and unresolvable “conversation around race” instead of a touchstone for discussing the horrendous job Martin’s local police department did in investigating his death…

…For some reason there’s this notion out there that Trayvon was killed on Monday, Al Sharpton showed up on Tuesday, and there were marches on Wednesday. There’s an entire contingent of critics who are much more comfortable attacking Sharpton, or wondering why “black on black” crime doesn’t attract any protests.

… more importantly the protests aren’t merely about Trayvon Martin’s killing, they are about the failure of a police department to rigorously investigate a crime… At its root, Trayvon Martin’s killing is a law and order case, and you would think conservatives would latch on to that. Instead, with few exceptions, we are being told that the true calamity here is the presence of Al Sharpton.

I just wish we could clone Rev. Al. His reputation continues to grow each year, which is why the conservatives are concentrating more and more on him.

Those silly SuperPAC ads that Rove et al plan waste $300M to “destroy” PBO’s voting advantage? – I say go ahead. The ads will just provide fodder for our President when he gives his WHCD roast…

    • April 10, 2012 at 12:47 am

Hopefruit2, how right you are in your observations. I have to really, really, pray hard, when I am praying for POB’s enemies. It hurts so badly at times, but I have faith that we will get through all of the pits the likes of Rove, Koch bros. are putting forth. I really do sit and pray out loud Ps. 37 during my devotional and quiet time. It hurts like hell, but I know that we will win this also.

I know that it is the prayers, meditations, hopes, faith, and constantly lifting POB up daily that gets him through each day. Also this gets each of us through each day as well. That is why we must stay close to each other so we are there when one of us need to be lifted above it all, because they do plan some mess. But we are greater than their attacks. We have to PRESSON with purpose of goodness in our hearts, and a steady movement in our feet to the hardwork that is before, getting POB re-elected on Nov. 6, 2012.

I learned something new and pleasant tonight. I’ve seen Daryl Parks on several shows on MSNBC, speaking out as one of the attorneys for the Martin family. But, tonight, Mr. Parks mentioned when he was on The Ed Show, and I don’t remember hearing it before as part of his various introductions, that he is the President of the National Bar Association, and I found out he has been since August of last year. For those of us who may not follow the Nat’l Bar, this was news and adds even more credibility to the Martin team of attorneys, which is doing a great job. I’m glad to see that top attorneys who practice in Florida and are representing the Martin family have national creds, as well. Good. Let’s get it done.

Why Ed and the others don’t acknowledge this is my only thought (or maybe they have and perhaps I missed it) – their punditry gets in the way of anything more than touching the surface on these stories, methinks. Lazy reporting.

    Here’s Mr. Parks’ website: http://www.nationalbar.net/president

Hi! I went back and looked and the NBA, in this case, is a national organization of African-American attorneys – guess I was thinking the American Bar Association – but it’s still a huge office, which I wasn’t aware of. Later tonight, I saw Mr. Parks on the Dr. Drew show on HLN, and he again brought up the fact he’s Pres of the NBA, so maybe he realizes they’re not mentioning it and will ask them to, in future! I think it’s important and should be known. I’ll try to remember to tweet Ed and Drew tomorrow. Good night, y’all.
