The big stickler for me will be the pay. If it’s not brought up, is there a good and respectable way to bring it up and to make sure they understand that pay scale is kinda a deal breaker. Also, if things work out good with pay and such, the next question is what time frame should I give them if they offer me a position.

I have to give 2 weeks notice for my current job, and I have to give 30 day notice for my apartment. I kind want to have a least 1 months worth of income which for me would be a nice sum to go home to NOLA with, I make pretty decent money per month from my FT job alone (My profession pays well regardless of what state, it’s why I always recommend becoming a MT to people who are science majors who can’t or don’t make it into med school) and extra money from my PRN job, so one months pay would actually be pretty good, especially if I cancel extra services.

Anyway, I don’t wanna count my chicks before they’ve hatched, but I like to game out scenarios when it comes to job or spending decisions.

Anyway, I always tend to forget to ask important questions that don’t pertain to the science portion of any job, so what other basic questions would ya’ll have aside from “how much will it pay”.

My advice is to ask about the ranges of salary and time. “what’s the salary range?” “what time range do have to fill the position?”

      • April 10, 2012 at 6:47 pm

Just my 2 cents – I never discuss pay until I’m offered a position. You just never know how you’ll really feel about accepting or rejecting an offer until it’s actually made. Then the negotiations start about salary and benefits, give and take, and you work it out from there. I also always ask for 24 hours to think about the offer. If it turns out it’s not enough money, then you can turn it down knowing that you gave it your best shot. Maybe it’s different for your industry. Same with timeframe, when you let each other know your parameters.

One thing I always ask in interviews is for them to describe a typical day and the positive and negative aspects of their job. Apart from the technical issues and requirements of job performance, it gives me a sense of the work environment and their attitudes about priorities and workflow. I also always ask about their decision-making timeframe so I’m not wondering when I’ll hear back.

There are ways to work around this. First do your research to make sure you are informed in terms of the going rate for your experience and position in that area. Try salary.com or one of those sites. That way if you are asked about salary, you can state clearly that you are aware of the range and can negotiate based on that information.

Regarding when to ask . . . . wait until they offer you the job. Asking too early can hurt your chances of getting the job if you price yourself out of the ballpark.

About timing on the start date, 3 weeks to 1 month makes sense especially if you are relocating.

Another good site for checking salary ranges in any field is glassdoor.com – really great site and helps to set expectations (plus, they have sample interview questions posted by people who’ve been interviewed at different companies). I also use salary.com – their salary wizard really helps to see what you should expect in different parts of the country. Good luck!

      • April 10, 2012 at 7:37 pm

Talk about salary if they invite you to a second interview or offer you the position. You can talk about it in the first interview IF they bring it up first. Otherwise focus on finding out more details of the position and what they expect from an employee.

I do believe our President is on fire and the fire is spreading.

And on another note. It’s really good to see President Bush out on the circuit. Who better to remind the American people when they hear him advocating for his old policies that it was “the decider”‘s policies that left us in this huge hole.

Brought this over from the last thread…

I just finished watching my president on the CNN link. There is another live link at the same time of Mitt Romney’s rally. I love all people, but it is really amazing to me that the only people in Mitt Romney’s audience are white. Seriously, that is the only people that I can see at the Mitt Romney rally. That is so sad!! I tuned in just in time to hear Mitt Romney say that the Republican party supports women and that President Obama is ‘out of touch” because the economy lost jobs for women. 92% of job losses were women. Where is he getting this stuff?

Government calls the shots, and businesses are scapegoats vs. what the founding fathers said that “American is the land of freedom and opportunity.” This is the first time that I have actually listened to Mitt. He really does lie. Our troops were stretched to the breaking point going back and forth to Iraq and Afghanistan. He’ll give the veterans the care they deserve. He neglect to mention who got us in the wars to begin with. This guy is a real piece of work. He really will say anything.

We have the highest tax rate in the world? Is this guy for real? Pres. Obama blames MItt for high gas prices? Obama plays the blame game. He looks forward to getting rid of government job training programs. I just can’t listen anymore… What an idiot!!

    • April 10, 2012 at 7:11 pm

The womens jobs lost under this President, is 600k! Under the 4th quarter of Busg ainusteation, over 3 million men list their jobs.
It’s true a lot more men have found jobs under this President, but that is because a lot more men lost their jobs!

    • 35 Sharon
      April 10, 2012 at 7:22 pm

Actually this data on women is true. But it is only half of the facts. I saw a recent discussion on this. Under Bush men bore the heavy brunt of the job losses–well over 3 million jobs. Under Obama, as jobs began to grow, a lot of those men went back to work. The heavy lay off of public employees were disproportionately women like teachers. Just more of Romney lying by distortion.

Same with the rightwing rant on 4 million jobs lost under Obama. The number of jobs added now is edging toward 4 millions so it is close to a wash. But we still have the 4 million under Bush to have to deal with.

There were a few blacks at Romney’s town hall, but not many. I saw one older lady shaking her head in agreement. Another man, and one of the SS guys was black.

      • April 10, 2012 at 7:44 pm

The key words here are “Under Obama”. Using that term anyone can make any type of claim like- “Under Obama more NFL players got traded than under any president.” – that statement means nothing but the person making the statement wants you to think Pres.Obama is the reason NFL players are being traded so much. Romney camp knows its a lie but they literally have NOTHING to run. Nothing.

Newt Gingrich’s campaign bounced a check for $500 to qualify for the Utah ballot, reports the Salt Lake Tribune.

The check was deposited in March but bounced and the campaign has not responded, according to the report. The campaign has until April 20 to pay the fee or Gingrich won’t be on the June 26 ballot.

Gingrich acknowledged Sunday on Fox News that the campaign was “slightly less” than $4.5 million in debt. He acknowledged that he had to dip into his own money to fund the campaign.

“We are operating on a shoestring,” Gingrich said.

They surely look happy! One young person looked as though she were praying. Well she might. I pray every time the president wades into crowds like that, wishing he could wear a bullet proof shirt, hoping the SS people have protection while they put themselves in the line of fire behind him, to the side of him, in front of him. I appreciate them so much.

Just came in for a moment after a day of struggling with a piece a friend wrote for my site praising our president. Sat down in my night gown, thinking i’d do a quick edit, stick in some pictures, upload it to my site. Then, sez I, I’ll go upstairs, get dressed and go out and mow our two acres of complicated lawn. Ha!

I’d like to know how Chipsticks does it day in, day out, without going out of her mind.

And never getting onto the lawn mower.

That fellow on the bottom right is a dead ringer for that young kid that is Romney’s body guy. His son? Read an article about how he sticks to Rpmney like glue. Cronyism? I think it is distracting when he keeps talking to Romney when he is greeting people. Never saw any politician use that. Gives the impression that the candidate is not in charge.

    • April 10, 2012 at 7:09 pm

Ain’t that something? Also, how about that fool ass woman who went on TV saying she had the winning ticket but claimed to have “lost it” when her co-workers at McDonald’s said the ticket was part of an office pool?

CHICAGO — The Obama campaign has long treated Mitt Romney as the likely Republican foe. Rick Santorum’s decision to end his presidential bid means that it’s all but official, and the news quickly became fodder for another attack.
In a statement, Obama campaign manager Jim Messina said it was Romney’s special-interest-backed campaign operation, not the candidate himself, who “finally was able to grind down” his GOP rivals.

We have got to encourage people to get their voter ID, we can not have anyone who want to vote, not be able to vote because they have no voter ID. We are going to need a big turn out, this election won’t be easy and we have to get out to vote.

            April 10, 2012 at 7:50 pm

Like all Republicans I know he misses the real point of the current discussion. This comment IMO suggests that he doesn’t get that the deal is to let the tax cuts expire/raise the taxes in order to raise needed revenue, as opposed to ‘persecution’ of his name. Repubs are all so self-centred they never can see the big picture.

        • 79 nospin
          April 10, 2012 at 7:59 pm

My take — he is saying is that the tax cuts for the wealthy makes sense but because they are being called the “Bush tax cuts” it is being vilified. If it the cuts were initiated by someone else or had a generic type name, folks probably wouldn’t be calling for it to be raised.

not logical but I think he really believes tax cuts for the wealthy = jobs for middle class.

          • 80 vcprezofan2
            April 10, 2012 at 8:35 pm

‘I think he really believes tax cuts for the wealthy = jobs for middle class.’

IMO all republicans in the public eye”really believe’ that because they have been brainwashed for years into this belief, AND they all seem incapable of grasping that it isn’t working! It might have worked before when their ‘job creators’ weren’t quite as greedy as they now generally are, but it isn’t working now – not on the scale it needs to. It bothers me that so many ‘educated’ Republicans spout the same thing over and over and over, showing no ability to be moved by current facts, or current needs! Why is it so hard for these lawyers, businessmen, or whatever degree they have to look at information and reassess their positions? Geez louise, it’s like beating one’s heads against a wall! Shouldn’t educated/intelligent people be able to be reasoned with, yet no two/three of them can be dragged away from this failed argument?

It’s a mutual admiration society. President Obama did that great taped segment for her 90th bday party—-where he wrote her a note, saying he couldn’t believe she was that old, could he see her birth certificate–hahaha—-all the while rocking out to her theme song and placing her framed photo on the credenza along side his family pics. Since ’08 they have done nothing but slam PBO. “Tell the President he has to…”, “Tell the President he can’t…”, “Make the President do this or that”. It’s disgusting and I have dropped them completely. If an email does get through I give them the sharp side of my tongue right back at them.

Ok, am I the only one who remembers when TLC showed, you know, informative programs? I remember reading an article at the time comparing TLC to PBS.

My wife watches “Say yes to the Dress” which is actually kind of interesting and depressing at the same time. But then you have “Toddlers and Tiaras” which is just depressing and sickening.

“But then you have “Toddlers and Tiaras” which is just depressing and sickening.”

Am I the only person that believes any parent who allows their child to participate in that type of programming should be evaluated by child protective services and the show should be investigated and fined for abuse?

          • April 10, 2012 at 8:12 pm

I used to watch Say yes to the Dress. I’ve even passed by the NY store many times. I had to stop because I am no where near getting married. No need to have these ideas in my head when I don’t even have a man.

Don’t get me wrong I used to be a fan of “Baby story” and “Wedding story” back in the day. But more and more the programming is just redundant and sensational. I mean “Mama’s Boys of the Bronx?”

          April 10, 2012 at 8:16 pm

Well, silly of you to think that a channel’s name indicates what it shows. By that logic, TLC should show informative programming, Bravo should show arts programming, and MTV should show music. God, cable is a wasteland. At least Fox Soccer has stopped showing that awful Sky TV soccer soap opera, “Dream Team”.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s Ex-Right Hand Man Disbarred Over Ethics Violations Nick R. Martin April 10, 2012, 12:18 PM Updated: April 10, 2012, 1:10 PM

In a Phoenix courtroom filled with fellow lawyers and some of his biggest critics on Tuesday, the former Arizona prosecutor who served for years as Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s right-hand man was stripped of his license to practice law.

A three-member panel of the State Bar of Arizona ruled that ex-Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas abused his powers as a prosecutor to target his political enemies. Because of that, they ruled he would be disbarred.

One of Thomas’ top aides, Lisa Aubuchon, was also disbarred for her role in the misconduct. A second aide, Rachel Alexander, had her law license suspended for six months.

The punishments are scheduled to take effect May 10. All three are expected to appeal the ruling.

My tool bar on the computer streams headlines and I just saw one go by the absolutely flabbergasted me. It was “Santorum’s early success pushed GOP to the right.” Two things. First of all, Santorum had early success because the GOP already was to the right. If the GOP had been less to the right there wouldn’t have been any early success for Santorum. Secon, I see this type of reporting as laying the groundwork for Romney to ease back to the middle and avoid the “hypocrisy” label. WE have to make sure it doesn’t work.

For weeks, Republicans have denied there’s a “war on women” raging, as Democrats have declared. Now they’re admitting the war exists — and it’s being led, they charge, by President Obama.

Democrats seized the line of attack after congressional Republicans pushed to allow employers to deny contraception coverage to women. The message gained steam after Rush Limbaugh’s smear of a law student who spoke out in favor of birth-control access.

On Tuesday, Romney surrogate Bay Buchanan, former treasurer to President Reagan, pushed back aggressively in a call with reporters, suggesting that the “real war on women” is reflective in President Obama’s handling of the economy. The impacts of his policies, she said, have been “frightening,” “unsettling” and “an outrage.”

I joined Planet Fitness today. See if there is one near you. For you Los Angeles folks it is located at the Vons Market in Inglewood and cost $1 to join and $10 a month. it is open 24/7. It is one of the sponsors of Biggest Loser. This is because my Flotus made me get up off the sofa!

Dotster that comment you quoted by W just reminded me of the dark eight years of him we lived through! I can hardly believe he was president…how awful he was, and he’s no better now. He should have stayed quiet. Now he’s reminded all of us how miserable a “president” he was!
