Also once you hit 66 you are just glad to wake up to a new day. It is wonderful to celebrate here in Phoenix with relatives who all agree politically. Altho today the ones who live here are the ones who are conservative. We won’t be talking polictics when they are all here.

I will be coming back tonight to see what I have missed today. Now off to greet the family.

NATIONAL ACTION NETWORK PANEL ON “CRIMINAL JUSTICE”

This panel was absolutely riveting. Very informative and enlightening. I highly recommend it if you have the time.

    ————————————————————————————

Speakers addressed the shooting death of Trayvon Martin in Florida, as well as a recent Tulsa shooting, where three African Americans were shot to death. The group also took audience questions.

The panel, moderated by NAN General Counsel and Executive Vice President Michael Hardy, included Harvard Law Professors Christi Cunningham and Dr. Charles Ogletree, ACLU Director of the Washington Legislative Office Laura Murphy and Vice President of The Fortune Society Glenn Martin.

I agree, gb, there’s nothing wrong with that headline. Now what would really be news and will never happen is “Romney Sticks Up for Michelle Obama.” See how blue you get holding your breath on that one.

Here’s my take on the Rosen Fauxrage that I posted as a comment on Balloon Juice:

    ___________________
This fauxrage was the Holy Grail that the Romney campaign had been looking for all this campaign but found illusive — i.e. generate the PASSIONS of the base the way Palin did in 2008-2010.

Rosen inadvertently teed up the ingredients they had been searching for and leaped at the opportunity, namely:

    1. Strokes Wingnuts’ Culture war erogenous zones while simultaneously enabling GOP to spout doublespeak
    2. Doesn’t require GOP to commit to any policy goal while enabling them to jump on MORAL soapbox
    3. Bumper sticker quality
    4. Hijacks Democratic strong point
    5. Lends itself to instant media amplification
    6. It stops the bleeding of support among the ranks of Repug women who were angry at their own party. It puts the muzzle on Kay Bailey Hucthison, Lisa Murkowski, Olympia Snowe, et al pronto
    7. It gives Sarah Palin and her brand of aggrieved retrograde woman crusade an entry point into the election cycle.
    8. They will make Ann Romney into a Palin with godmother Palin herself at her side, while deploying Sharon Angle, Christine O’Donnell, Niki Haley, Kelly Ayotte as handmaidens.

Folks, it will be a nauseating spectacle that the Poodle media will lap up and regurgitate dutifully. It will render the battle between the actual candidates as sideshows while asymmetrical coverage of Ann will be maximized.

They will pursue this aggressively precisely because they believe it will drown out a potent Michelle Obama whose acumen on the campaign trail they had been dreading all this while. Every overt and covert racial and cultural code will be employed to canonize St. Ann Warrior of Motherhood. Just watch.

And so these were likely the reason the Obama campaign did the instant rebuke. They know the insane illogic of campaigns. They experienced it in 2008 when tangential issues nearly derailed Candidate Obama’s nomination. Dems should get savvy to the game.
    _____________

Having said all that, PBO’s brilliance is also the reason why the Republicans’ intentions to milk this nonsense will fail. He knows them like the back of his hand. He will soon set another of his many traps for them and like lemmings they will dutifully walk right off the cliff. My only wish is that Democrats, congresscritters and pundits should LEARN from the Aikido/Rope-a-dope Master. And I mean LEARN and not have to cause unforced erroors that.

        April 13, 2012 at 1:45 pm

Mrs. Greenspan is just as dishonest as the Romney campaign. David Axelrod told John King that Hilary Rosen is employed by CNN not the Obama campaign. What part of Hilary Rosen is a CNN employee, not ours does Mrs. Greenspan not understand? Unfortunately, that fact just doesn’t fit the narrative that Mrs. Greenspan wants to run with. Mrs. Greenspan should watch The Last Word segment on her own network from last night for a bit of truth. This was manufactured fake outrage from a campaign desperate to distract attention from their dismal record with women.

Romney falsely pins Hilary Rosen comments to the Obama campaign

Here we go America if the GOP continue to make this nonesense and make Ann Romney a very rich woman
with unlimeted resources and all the the paid domestic help she have had to help her 5 boys and stay home well
good luck . So how about the 99% of women that are working very hard and stragelling to support their kids and
in many cases have to work 2 jobs, so now the GOP want to make Ann POOR Romney the VICTIM? well I got news for
them. 1% of the very rich women might agreed with Mrs Romney, but, but 99% of working hard women do not have
the same previlage. so this is RichWomen VS Hard middle class women I will take my chances and I will take
the 99% of the hard working women.

          April 13, 2012 at 2:53 pm

Agree, Mel. Rich Republican women were always going to identify with Willard’s wife. She has the Country Club look and manner. But for 99 percent of the women in this country she might as well come from Mars. Who can possibly relate? One thing that really annoys me about all of this is Ann Romney’s age. She’s a grandmother, for heaven’s sake, and all her “mothering’ was done decades ago. To regard yourself as a working or STAHM in your retirement years is a little weird. I am a little older than she is, but, while I’m still technically a ‘mom,’ it is far from the main definition of myself now that it was years ago. Michelle Obama’s children are still young and living at home, so her every day ‘mom’ decisions are here and now and far more relatable to people living in this century. Ann Romney is, let’s face it, an elderly woman more on the order of Barbara Bush–that long ago paragon of empathy and kindness. Who even thought of Barbara Bush or Nancy Reagan making young mom choices.

    • April 13, 2012 at 1:13 pm

      Hi zizi,
The Obama Admin. is demonstrating their leadership. According to frontpager at kos, Jed Lewison, Dave Weigel prematurely proclaimed the democratic use of “war on women” ended because of this little blip of a kerfuffle. Anyway, Vp Biden on “The Ed Show” said the war on women will just get worse. Lo and behold, today we have news that AZ’s gov. Brewer signed a draconian anti-abortion law that effectively places conception at the time of mestruation. The evidence is just too damn great to ignore, no matter how the right and their MSM minions try to obfuscate.

This is not the last that we have seen of this demonstration of trying to take the attention away from the issues that Mitt Romney and POB will be discussing. I do believe that Ann and company will take her health issues next to carry the conversation again to another level. And that truly will be sad especially if Karl Rove has anything to do with it, and we know his hands will be all over it..

There are many women who have so many difference types of cancer and many of my dear friends have MS. And this is very personal and sensitive to all of us. I hope that they will not go there, but I can’t help but feel that because of how Mrs. Ann went into her statement yesterday. Go back and watch her and listen to her.

I really do not feel that these issues should be politically used to stir up fire in the house. But I do not put anything pass these people. It really is sad and shameful, because we can come to the table and engage in a decent conversation in ways that will help us solve problems concerning women issues, rather than divide and carry on manufactured cheap news “happening” which is not really news.

We will PRESS ON and fail not to keep our focus. But we will not be made fools of in this process during the re-election of POB. HZ

          OH YES PLEASE.

Ann Romney is WHY OBAMACARE is needed. She is the walking poster-girl for WHY we are so desperate for Obamacare.

“All mom’s are entitled to choose their own path.” “ Stay at home moms make tough choices too.” Ann Romney

On the surface, I understand what Ann Romney is saying. Ann’s meaning to her words come from her perspective of what it is to be a stay at home mom and raise five children. Raising kids is hard…I’ve raised 2 of my own. But what she fails to realize, because she cannot see outside her “family” world, is that a lot of women with children, are not “entitled” to choose their own paths. Their world is a much different world from Ann Romney’s, and it is a world that Ann Romney knows little about.

My 80-year-old Catholic mom raised five of us. My dad worked 5 days a week, and on weekends he worked fixing the house, cars, and whatever else was breaking down…he patched us up… keeping our family going. My mom kept the household going, all the stuff stay at home mom’s do…laundry, cleaning toilets, cooking, paying the bills and figuring out how to make it through one more month. Our meals were simple, beef once a week; vermicelli with cut up hotdogs was a standard too. Feeding five children on our budget was tough. Eating out? Not an option. Yes my mom made tough choices too, and when my 3 older sibs and I were in our tweens my mom decided she had to work, we just didn’t have enough money to get us through month to month. I remember during this period seeing my mom crying at the kitchen table, with her checkbook out, I didn’t understand. So came the period in our lives when mom went to work. Dad would come home from work, drive mom to her night job, and then pick her up late at night. No one liked our mom being gone, but she did what she felt she needed to do. It was a low paying job, for she was a high school grad with no “job skills”. She eventually quite her job when one night a fellow female employee was rapped in the parking lot after her night shift of work. So yea, my mom had to make another tough decision.

Five kids…is and was a lot. Being Catholic my parents used the rhythm method. I told my mom years later they must have had good rhythm! My mom is the bravest, strongest woman I know. Every penny she counted, we had a clean home, we never went hungry and our clothes were always washed and ironed. Looking back now as an adult with my own children, I often wonder how she and my dad managed to raise the five of us. My parents gave everything they could to us; support, encouragement and of course love. The five of us are all college educated, as for myself, I’m a physician.

So to Ann Romney, no, not all women are entitled to choose their own path. When you have no financial security to help when the times are tough, your choices are limited. I would like to know what tough choices Ann Romney has had to make. Yes from her worldview I am sure she has made “tough” choices. But ask the other stay at home mom’s that don’t live in her world what their tough choices are? Paying the gas bill or electric bill? Buying yourself new shoes (since yours have holes in them) or buying your kids shoes? Has Ann ever put cardboard in the bottom of her shoes where the sole was worn through? Yes Ann…I am sure your choices were just as tough, but please…don’t whine. Whining…. something I never heard my mother do.

This is a very touching post Carla. Brilliant. Just brilliant. Your parents are spectacular human beings indeed. You framed the heart of this media generated issue very well. No one begrudges Ann Romney for being a stay at home mom, people just don’t like the fact that she’s being hypocritical about the privilege that afforded her that choice and she’s campaigning with and for a man whose policies will be detrimental for women.

    • April 13, 2012 at 2:09 pm

Brava to you and your mother. I see the issue as one of choice or lack of choices as I wrote yesterday. My mom and grandmother both worked and I am in my 60′s. They had no choice. Women work inside the home, or outside the home or both. My hat’s off to all of them. If Hilary Rosen had just added the ‘outside the home’, this would not be an issue.

Someone needs to ask Ann Rombe if she plans to have her husband make “raising children” considered “work” by the federal government. In fact the Democratic Senate should require a vote on it and see if the GOP will vote it down!

    Good Morning folks

I am about to rant and I will apologize up front if I offend anyone with this posting.

We need to use the Ann Romney story as a tool to grow stronger as a blog and as individuals who are fighting for the President.

We need to FOCUS on important issues and IGNORE distractions.

Why are we wasting blog posts on this Romney topic? This is a problem and distraction for us ONLY if we let it be.

The opposite of love is not hate, it is indifference.

The opposite of support for the Republicans should not be hating them. It should not be getting all upset, and spending our entire day arguing with them. The opposite of support for the Republicans is to IGNORE their nonsense and go on offense to defeat them.

While we all have posted hundreds of messages about this issue, here is what we have NOT done.

    1. Called our congress and senate leaders and asked them to support the buffet rule

    2. worked to get more folks to pull out of Alec

    3. continued to pressure advertisers to remove their support from Rush Limbaugh

    4. Talked about the ways we are working with OFA to help the president and all Democrats get relected.

We need to develop muscles for the battle until November and I am hopeful that this incident can help us do that. There will be many more comments like Hilary Rosen’s, polls that go the wrong way and job numbers that are disappointing.

We cannot control these things we can only control how we react to them.

    • April 13, 2012 at 1:07 pm

“Why are we wasting blog posts on this Romney topic?”

I sympathize with your view on this Linda, but like it or not the msm has made it an issue so it’s only natural that many people here want to discuss it.

        Donna and Chips

I think what I forgot to say was – for me…. reading so many comments that go on for so long, make the issue more upsetting and harder to deal with. I guess for the folks who are making the comments and for many others who visit the blog, venting for 2 days is helpful.

Donna, your comment on the poll of women you work with was very helpful.

        • April 13, 2012 at 1:34 pm

But I’ve no problem with people venting, I think it’s healthy. And I reckon it’s important to push back against MSM/GOP-manufactured ‘controversies’ like this, as many here have been doing on Twitter and elsewhere. If there’s no push-back the GOP have a free run and can frame the story any way they like. Ignoring this stuff doesn’t make it go away, it’s important to fight back. I’m completely happy to see people argue it out here, for however long they want. Just my opinion.

          • April 13, 2012 at 2:16 pm

Thank you for that. I think that this is such a personal issue for many of us whose mothers worked or whose families struggled to make ends meet. Being allowed to give voice to our feelings, one way or the other is important and healing.

Hey Linda, I do see your point here, and I really hope that we can accomplish much of what you suggested in your numbered list. But as much as we would like to ignore MSM’s antics, we cannot ignore this issue because the MSM and the Romney camp have pushed it front and center, and this particular incident is a direct attempt to diminish PBO’s high approvals among women voters. That’s why Axelrod and Messina immediately put out tweets distancing themselves from Rosen’s comments. Like it or not, the MSM is the opponent because they are an extended arm of the Republican party, an Axelrod and Messina are aware of that.

The media is not simply an irrelevant distraction — they have a direct and vested interest in the outcome of the 2012 election – an outcome that is not compatible with our desired outcome. Therefore, we need to be super vigilant about how they go about pushing various narratives, sowing discord, instigating nontroversies, spreading lies and distortions, and we need to push back on them immediately, frequently, and forcefully.

        April 13, 2012 at 1:35 pm

        Hi Hopeful

It is tricky, I was not intending to ask us to completely ignore the issue, I guess it was more of a “how long will this go on” comment. Yes we need to know about the comment, yes we need accurate information about what was said, and yes we can all contribute our opinions on how it should have been handled.

For me, the part that has been missing was the development of an effective way to deal with the issue

        * talking points for anyone who brings it up
        * email we need to send to show our support
        * petition we sign
        * pledge we make to donate to OFA or work for the president

That’s why Donna’s comment meant so much to me, it was factual information we could use to gauge the severity of the problem. My blood pressure dropped a good 10 points after reading her comment.

If an issue arises that doesn’t lend itself to concrete action, then I would just ask – how long will we discuss it?

        • April 13, 2012 at 1:39 pm

I’ve read every comment regarding this issue. I see all sides of it. However, here (TOD) I am sick, sick, sick, sick of reading about it. With all the issues that the media and us and everyone else go ballistic over for a few days, this is the first one I am totally SICK of. So much so, I am taking a break from TOD for a few hours. Just can’t take it anymore. Talk later…………….

        • 74 hopefruit2
          April 13, 2012 at 1:54 pm

I think this issue will go away soon enough. It’s only been front and center for the last 48 hrs and it only came up as a result of the GOP’s desperation to diminish PBO’s standing among women.

Just like the issue with the Catholics and contraception, this blog, Twitter and elsewhere have had many conflicting viewpoints for a several days, and then things went back to normal once the issue died down. But many truths are revealed by those discussions – even those in which we have disagreements. And ultimately, I think it actually helps our side because it allows otherwise low information voters to be brought to awareness of how they could potentially be manipulated by the MSM’s antics and GOP-slanted bias in reporting.

Ironically, it’s the very people that Donna mentioned who don’t know about the Rosen incident are the ones that the GOP/MSM are trying to manipulate with these narratives. Because these people do not have any context of how the narrative got started in the first place, yet they may go home, turn on the TV for evening news, only to be fed Republican slanted views disguised as reporting, not realizing that the info they are receiving has been distorted to influence their views of either party. If these people are able to get other reports elsewhere and see exactly how and where the truth has been distorted – then they will be better informed, which is healthy to our democracy.

HF, where they get real information is from us, talking to people everyday, phone banking and canvassing. That’s what OFA is about, reaching out and countering the lies, one on one.

Each day I read every comment on this blog. For the last 21/2 days it’s been non stop on the same topic, everyone repeating their position. To be very honest, it gets very tiresome. I agree with wiw; please do something positive to help PBO get re-elected.

Yes, the non-stop venting is fatiguing. Of course, we can step away at any time. The important thing to remember is there will be many issues that will make us upset going forward to the election. My personal plan is to be selective about where I spend my angry energy units.

I don’t mean to speak for Linda so I can only speak for myself but by no means do I feel we should ignore what I see the media is doing with this issue. Those 10 woman that I polled also got a good lesson on what this issue truly is about from me this morning. Now hopefully they can go off educated on the topic to share with their friends and family should the topic come up (each one teach one or ten in this case). Also I am aware that some here use twitter to educate and push back and that is a very good thing.

With that said, if you go back and look at the threads for the last 2 days it is incredible by how we become consumed by these media driven faux-controversies. I’m not ignoring it but based on the lessons I have learned in the past I know exactly what the media is trying to accomplish by doing this (and most of us here should know by now as well). They beat an issue to death, then they take a poll with the hopes that it will show an adverse affect on PBO so that they can then spend another week talking about his gloom and doom. I get it! How I choose to respond and react to it IMO will make the real difference. I have read hair-on-fire responses here. I have read chastising of the President and his surrogates here. I have read the campaign now has a glass half full comments.

Guess what? A month or so ago I read the same stuff when the President was going to ‘sell us down the drain” by “caving” to the Bishops on contraceptives.

Guess what else? A month from now there will be some other controversy.

The media NEEDS a horserace and I just feel that how we choose to respond to their wish will determine whether or not they get one. I work too many jobs so I am not able to be here most of the day but I sure would love to see a media brigade that would go into full effect with pushback on this stuff. Hundreds making phone calls, tweets, faxes and emails to let them know that we are not going to accept them trying to manipulate this election. If that was happening at the same pace as the “venting” I think for those of us who don’t react to the media, it would make all of this a little easier to swallow.

But hey that’s just my 2 cents and everyone is entitled to share as they see fit.

        • April 13, 2012 at 2:29 pm

“Those 10 woman that I polled also got a good lesson on what this issue truly is about from me this morning. Now hopefully they can go off educated on the topic to share with their friends and family should the topic come up “

That’s exactly why I think it’s good to argue these things out Donna, if you’d buried your head in the sand on this you would have been in no position to provide those 10 women with the facts to counter the crap that the MSM is spewing on the Ann Romney/Hilary Rosen issue.

We’d all love nothing more than to focus on the positive stuff, it would be way better for our blood pressure, but ignoring stuff like this, instead of arguing it out and fighting back, would – in my humble opinion – help ensure that Mitt Romney will be the next President.

          Donna

Thanks for sharing the part about how you informed them about the issue, that is so important. Also your point about how this will happen again and again is spot on.

I am hopeful that in addition to the venting we could have a few folks that share a short snap shot of how they framed the issue with friends or coworkers. Sometimes I know so much about a subject and am so wound up I give a complex answer when a simple one would do a better job.

          • April 13, 2012 at 5:48 pm

Here’s a rebuttal, Linda: I see the President stood up for Ann Romney against an offensive comment made by a commentator. When will Mitt Romney stand up for the First Lady against all the attacks from commentators that she endures?

    So ….

Our OFA group has been holding phone banks twice a week to call R and U voters in battleground states. It is hard but it has really made our team stronger. We joke with each other when we talk to a harsh R voter, we have gotten really good at handling negative phone conversations, and we grow larger every week.

We consistenntly have 10-15 folks at each of these phone banks.

I encourage anyone else who is doing things to help the President to list hem here so we can be inspired by your efforts.

If you have not yet volunteered with OFA, let us know how we can help. There are many folks here who volunteer and can make sure you get in touch with the correct person.

Like any state legislature dealing with 8 percent unemployment and thousands of its residents facing disenfranchisement, the Tennessee Senate is targeting the menace of underage hand-holding.

Last week, the Senate passed SB 3310, a bill to update the state’s abstinence-based sex education curriculum to define holding hands and kissing as “gateway sexual activities.” Just one senator voted against the legislation; 28 voted in favor.

Since the bill specifically bans teachers from “demonstrating gateway sexual activity”, educators would be prohibited from even demonstrating what hand-holding is. Breaking these laws could result in a lawsuit, as Hunter from Daily Kos notes:

If your teacher teaches you anything about sex that isn’t specifically on the approved curriculum, like demonstrating “holding hands” for the class instead of quietly tsking about the dangers it poses, they can be sued.

Still, this anti-hand-holding push may only be the second-worst bill passed in Tennessee this month. Nearly a century after the Volunteer State played host to the Scopes Monkey Trial, the legislature has now enacted a new law allowing educators to teach creationism alongside evolution.

how long do they think they’ll milk this for? there’s nothing substantive about the criticism lobbed at Mrs. Money. What is substantive are all the amendments in state and federal government that are basically weapons against women. Pretty soon we’ll be back to talking about Gov. Vaginal Probe who looks more like an anal probe than anything else. We’ll be talking about the Rubio-Romney/Blunt amendment. These media people are the biggest liars not to mention, they are stupid. And the American people are even stupider if they believe anything that comes out of Mr. and Mrs. Money’s mouths. If there’s one thing I can’t abide is stupidity and if women somehow allow the gap to be narrowed between PBO and Moneybags, then they should get what they deserve. I just wanted to say… from reading a handful of comments on Romney’s wife.. I am soooooo glad that what media there finds news… has not reached our shores

But I also agree with Chipsticks and a few others… in that I don’t necessarily think people on here have to stop talking about it but I personally wont jump on the bandwagon to discuss Romney’s wife indepth, let alone, address her by name… cause she doesn’t mean anything to me… and she doesn’t mean anything to NZ (nobody knows who the hell this woman is really lol)… so in short.. we don’t care about the Romney’s “downunder” I am not opposed to people wanting to discuss it. I just do what any person who has control over their laptop/notebook does (or p.c/phone/tablet, etc)… I scroll down to more relevant things on PBO that interests me.. I don’t need to join in on the discussions people want to have on Romney’s wife.

Anyway… I hope everyone has a great start to their weekend. PBO gets good coverage here, its rare to hear anything negative-leaning towards the President. It’s really just happening in America that your media is making a big deal out of it lol :)

Have a great Birthday weekend MT. Friday the 13th devilishly suits you lol

MARTIN BASHIR just interviewed Karen Finney and julian Epstein to discuss the speech Romney gave to the NRA. Karen Finney noted the large volume of lies that the DNC would have to debunk.

    Martin said ……………..

Romney is deteriorating right before our eyes.

He didn’t bring up the Trayvon Martin case. He hardly talked about guns. There was a lot of talk about FREEDOM.

Mitt did a deft double pander: Bringing out Ann Romney before the speech to give a shoutout to Moms and Dads.

Martin may be onto something, Ladyhawke.

I have said in jest that Willard isn’t going to know whether he’s coming or going, and that it definitely WON’T get better (unlike the words of a famous anti-bullying campaign) for him as the campaign goes on. But seriously, when I look and listen to Mitt Romney, I see a shell of a man with no positive vision or purpose, who is about to be exposed and knows it. I think we are going to witness many meltdown moments as this weird, empty man is put under the spotlight. And it won’t be pretty.

      • 215 Ladyhawke
        April 13, 2012 at 3:53 pm

I totally agree that Mitt Romney is a weird, angry man. He really does seem to be falling apart right before our eyes. There is a desperation that is unmistakable. He’s practically hysterical. He sounds like a babling idiot. I was looking at him with the mute button on and without a sound the shallowness oozes from the screen. There is an empty, soulless quality that is beyond distrubing. How does a man lie like that and be able to look himself in the mirror? It really frightens me that someone this callous is where he is now.

Like I commented earlier this week, it’s really easy for Romney to lie in an op-ed, on his website, in politcal ads, speeches given from a teleprompter, or interviews with right wing radio and Fox. But eventually, he’s going to have to have his version of the “Katie Couric” interview where a real journalists asks tough questions and challenges lies, non responses or spin. I know I’m dreaming, but I have to believe that there will be no way for Mitt to avoid live, unscripted interviews with real journalists.

  51. April 13, 2012 at 3:23 pm

I just listened to Meh’s speech to the NRA and boy, I had to find my waders to get through the muck. Anyway, here’s what struck me. I could be wrong becuase I’ve never had to go through it, but do airlines send coffins down the conveyer belt withthe rest of the luggage? He said as governor he was asked to meet a soldiers coffin, (hte parents couldn’t get there in time). He said after the passengers departed and got their luggage from the conveyer belt, not soon after the coffin came down the conveyor belt. Again, I don’t know, but I’ve traveled enough to know that I’ve never seen a coffin on a conveyor belt in any airport, before, during, or after the luggage was picked up.

Our military people could verify that it is customary for the military to handle transportation of deceased troops, and they would transport into a military base? But in the unlikely event this is true, Myth may have broken W’s record for meeting a returning soldiers coffin. Jmho.

    • April 13, 2012 at 4:50 pm

I would have to see a quote, but to give him a benefit of the doubt on this one, most luggage leaves the plane on a conveyor belt and then is taken to the terminal to be picked up. The coffin would also leave the plane on the same conveyor belt after the luggage was empty. It is usually picked up at that point by the funeral director or in another location. So yes, he may well have seen the coffin come via the conveyor belt. As to saying after the passengers picked up the luggage, I would have to see the exact quote.

The point being, this is hardly anything worthwhile to go afetr as a lie. He tells enough meaningful ones.

I’m doing research for the lit review of my paper and stumbled across these number: 5.1 million women are stay at home moms (NBLS 2010) and 65 million women are in the labor force(BLS Spotlight on Statistics 2010). So the idea that Mrs. Money’s plight is generalizable to the broader population of women is beyond ridiculous. More women are currently in the workforce than in the 1970s but based on the data I pulled up that lists participation rate of women in the workforce from 1970 to 2010, 49.2% of married women with children between 6 and 17 were working in 1970. 30.3% of married women with kids under 6 during this same time period were working. Over the last 4 decades, the number of women with children both married and unmarried has steadily increased. 2009 data shows that both married and unmarried women with children’s participation in the labor force is virtually similar: 78.9% of single women with kids 6-17 and 67.8% with kids under 6 compared to married women who are at 76.7% in the labor force (w/ kids 6-17) and 61.6% in labor force (w/ kids under 6).
—-US Census Bureau, Statistical Abstract of the United States 2012

So I don’t know what the fuck the Willard campaign is thinking, but it’s not gonna work.

ps- sorry for dropping the stats, it just so happened that i’m reading through the graphs and tables for my paper and I figured it was a good way to illustrate how dumb the Willard campaign is if they think sympathy for Mrs. Money is enough. Most people can’t even imagine what Mrs. Money’s life was like as a wife or mother because even though she stayed at home and there are 5.1 million women who are stay at home moms, I’m willing to bet that not many of those ‘home’ moms have a husband worth $250 million. Plus the data doesn’t go into detail about the circumstances of the stay at home moms. Do the moms work from home, are they self-employed to supplement their husband’s incomes? How much of the staying at home deals with religion? How much of it is culture? How much of that is due to disability?

so anyway, that’s my spiel. Back to the books.

Great information, Lisa. I wonder how the 5.1 correlates with income levels? Some women choose to work at home at great sacrifice and barely srcape by because they think it’s the right thing to do or because their child has special needs. A good number home school their children. In our area, Amish and Menonite women work on farms, as do many other farm wives. And, as you said, there are stay-at-home jobs that can be done while tending to children. Every woman in America has her own story and we can’t all be lined up on warring sides. Besides, who has the time? Women are thew busiest people in the world.

The man accused of second-degree murder in the killing of unarmed Florida teenager Trayvon Martin may ask the judge overseeing his case to remove herself because of a possible conflict of interest.

George Zimmerman’s attorney, Mark O’Mara, said during a court hearing on Friday that he was considering asking the judge, Jessica Recksiedler, to leave the case because one of her husband’s law partners is a legal analyst for CNN. The analyist is Orlando attorney Mark NeJame.

Additionally, O’Mara said his client tried to hire a lawyer from the husband’s law firm before his arrest, creating another possible conflict.

According to USA Today’s Yamiche Alcindor, who was in the courtroom, O’Mara said he would make he decision about whether to formally request Recksiedler’s removal on Monday.

Even then Princess Elizabeth worked as a mechanic in the military during WWII. Queen Elizabeth herself held a job and had to deal with all the responsibilities that come with that. Queen Freakin’ Elizabeth. But Ann Romney has never worked a day in her life. She’s never had to get up in the morning and clock in and deal with people. Nothing. Not even a high school summer job. She’s never waited tables, or folded clothes, or scooped ice cream, or answered phones, etc. Nothing. She went from being taken care of by daddy to, at age 19, being taken care of by Mitt. I find this downright disgusting. To be of sound mind and abled body and you’ve never put in an honest days work for a check the entire time you’ve been on this planet?! But this woman knows “struggle” and knows what’s really going on in America?

It’s infuriating. And sad thing is, if someone pointed this out, that she actually never has had a job in her entire 62 years, then you’re attacking her. Can you imagine if Michelle Obama had never worked a day in her life? Or even any other Democratic wife? They’d be ripped to shreds, not protected and respected.

When I was watching the Stephanie Miller show this morning, I heard this conversation between Juanita and Stephanie Miller. Juanita even named where the homes were located and talked about the horses and swimming pool. She certainly sounded legitimate.

    • April 13, 2012 at 4:44 pm

It is irrelevant whether or not she ever worked a day in her life. A lot of women haven’t, and not all of them being born in a wealthy family. More relevant is that her status both as a child and adult, due to wealth, has insulated her from what the vast majority of women have to face everyday. Even if she had worked, it probably would have been in a situation most women haven’t been in and the worries of the consequences of losing a job they have would not have been a concern to her.

Yes, she has actually had to face struggles in her life, though, as she has stated, not financial ones. But dealing with MS is a struggle. So it is important to acknowledge that struggle when speaking about her, but still talk about her being insulated from the struggles most women face.

      • 248 hopefruit2
        April 13, 2012 at 5:07 pm

I agree. It’s really beside the point whether she worked or not. What’s more relevant is the fact that the Romney campaign is deploying her to bridge the gap between Romney and Obama among female voters. Obama’s record-based policies are the reason for his popularity among women, not his spouse flitting around talking patronizingly to other women about her “struggles.”

Mitt Romney couldn’t answer simple questions about what he thinks of various policies and legislation that have serious implications for women- no matter how much the media tries to shove Ann Romney down women’s throats with their nonstop fawining about her trending on Twitter, or manufactured nontroversies with Rosen, etc, the bottom line is that Romney has not been able to present himself as a candidate who is going to work on improving living conditions for 99% of women in this country. That is what will matter come November.

Regarding coffins coming off airplanes…..my other died while in England on a trip with my sister. Her coffin was put in the baggage section, but we were allowed to go to the plane after everyone deplaned and be there when the coffin was offloaded. We met it with our funeral director, who took it to the funeral home. It does NOT come off the conveyor belt with other luggage! The whole situation was handled quietly and with dignity. My goodness that man lies about everything!

In a speech to the National Rifle Association Friday, likely GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney waded back into the contraception wars, attacking President Obama’s health care provision requiring employers, including religiously affiliated groups, to provide contraceptive coverage to female employees — a requirement Romney vowed to repeal. But in doing so, he elided two key facts about his tenure as governor of Massachusetts: that he enforced a very nearly identical mandate at the state level enacted by his predecessor; and advanced a separate one requiring religiously affiliated hospitals to provide emergency contraception to rape victims.

    From Romney’s prepared remarks:

Now, the Obama administration has decided that it has the power to mandate what Catholic charities, schools and hospitals must cover in their insurance plans. It’s easy to forget how often President Obama assured us that under Obamacare, nothing in our insurance plans would have to change. Remember that one? Well, here we are, just getting started with Obamacare, and the federal government is already dictating to religious groups on matters of doctrine and conscience.
In all of America, there is no larger private provider of healthcare for women and their babies than the Catholic Church. But that’s not enough for the Obamacare bureaucrats. No, they want Catholics to fall in line and violate the tenets of their faith.

As President, I will follow a very different path than President Obama. I will be a staunch defender of religious freedom. The Obamacare regulation is not a threat and insult to only one religious group – it is a threat and insult to every religious group. As President, I will abolish it.

This is a GREAT article from PlanetPOV! I don’t want to quote too much but it is hilarious. Treats the whole Ann Romney thing just as it should be treated. Chips, might this rate a spot on the top?

    http://planetpov.com/2012/04/13/obama-to-be-blamed-for-statements-of-anyone-who-voted-for-him/

“In an unprecedented move, the five major corporations which own the Mainstream Media have banded together to announce that in order to keep the Presidential race the kind of competitive contest that Americans deserve, President Obama will now be blamed for the gaffes of anyone who ever supported or voted for him.”

“Their press release, which they handed out to each other, details that this is not only a pro-democracy policy but a pro-recovery one.

“So far, the 2012 race for the Presidency has been very one-sided, with the eventual Republican nominee, Mitt Romney, making self-damaging statements on a near-daily basis while President Obama makes stirring speeches,” explained Time Warner Executive Vice President, Dick Douchington. “This has so far led to a not very competitive race in the polls which is bad for democracy…and our ratings and ad revenue…which coincidentally means it’s bad for the US economy.”

This is not even the best part.
