Well not really. The only thing that happen, during the 2+ days there, was some SS men refusing to pay their prostitutes. Of course it’s good news for McC.

        rant/
Seriously how does bad behavior by grown men acting like they are above questioning = bad on Obama? If anything I see it as white privilege run amok. But of course the privileged class is never guilty. It’s always someone else’s fault. Some people just feel entitled. Entitled to all the whores they want and entitled to not have to pay for them.

Think MM will say PBO should have stood up for them to get them to stay in Columbia? Rhetorical Q.

But they’re in another country where apparantly if you stiff someone, even a prosititute. you get in trouble. Not what they were expecting. So what to do to save face? Make it a referendum on PBO. It’s worked so well up till now.

    • April 15, 2012 at 8:40 pm

      I just saw this Roberta:

Political leaders from the Western Hemisphere ended their summit Sunday seriously divided over the contentious issue of Cuba, as Canada and the United States blocked an attempt by Latin American nations to bring the communist Caribbean country into their fold.

The weekend summit ended frostily when the leaders of more than 30 countries failed to produce a final declaration about their work.

The reason for that failure was that the leaders were unable to reach a consensus on a key issue — the Latin American countries want Cuba to be invited to the next summit of the Americas in three years, in Panama.

Must be some behind the scenes conflict somewhere. I think we do a lot better working with our adversaries when we can sit and talk with them mano a mano, instead of boogie man and protector.

But alas, they didn’t ask for my opinion

OUR PRESIDENT IS COURAGEOUS FOR NOT BENDING ON HIS SANCTIONS AGAINST CUBA…IT’S GOOD FOR HIM TO WALK INTO THESE SITUATIONS WITHOUT ‘FEAR’….SOMETHING G.W. WOULD NEVER DO. THESE ARE THE PRESIDENTIAL ACTIONS THAT BRING A WORLD TOGETHER. PBO STANDS FOR WHAT HE BELIEVES IN AND I ADMIRE HIM SO FOR IT. What were the sanctions designed to accomplish? Aren’t they from the 50s during the Bay of Pigs incident? Does it really still apply? Is it his conviction or is he heeding advice of his advisors, many of whom we know are still fighting the cold war?

It would be asking a lot to expect a US president running for reelection in an election year to agree to allow the summit guidelines for admission to be bent so Cuba could be invited. Just imagine the uproar from the Cubans in Florida. Good to see Canada has our back on this.

        • 49 LunarSea
          April 15, 2012 at 10:19 pm

So you’re saying politics over policy?

Florida’s Cubanos are repub voters anyway. For that matter, there’s an uproar over SS men who can’t keep their flies zipped. There’s always an uproar, so that can’t be it. So what is going on that we have to keep such an outdated sanction in place. Or do like I do with my kids, show you can handle the responsibility and you get greater privilege. Give them conditions to meet in 3 yrs.

Question is why are the sanctions still needed? Are they still a threat or is this some left over cold war paranoia. Yes there are human rights issues, but don’t tell me the good ole USA doesn’t have it’s own abuses of human rights.

If it is still needed, why? What’s the objective? Could it have to do with GITMO? Look at the former Burma -now Myanmar. Progress can be made if we work toward it. But just having sanctions and not working toward anything, progresses nothing. In my opinion.

On the other hand I’m not president or privy to the information he is so I will trust his judgment because I trust him. I don’t trust all his advisors. And I cannot help but wonder why.

  20. 61 japa21
    April 15, 2012 at 8:36 pm

Okay, this comment is going to be totally off track, but something has been bothering me ever since Romney’s speech to the NRA. I have been extremely busy this weekend and only been able to do hit and miss type of viewing. I am truly hoping somebody can say this has been mentioned before here or elsewhere in some blog.

Friday, Romney basically implied that if he gets re-elected, PBO will start going after guns. Again, he did not use those words specifically, but the message was nonetheless loud and clear. Now, we all know this is a ridiculous statement, but the only things I have read in my hit and miss reading this weekend is just that, PBO has done nothing to indicate he is even intereste din any type of gun control (one of my minor disppointments, but understandable) whereas Romney, as Governor actually was big on gun control. In other words, the NRA, and by extension, gun lovers, should be more concerned about a Romney Presidency than if PBO is re-elected.

My limited reading has not shown me what I consider to be a truly dangerous aspect of Romney’s talk. I know of at least 3 major shooting incidents in 2009 and 2010, with at least 9 fatalities, that were done because the shooter believed PBO was going to come and get his guns. This included three policemen in PA being killed. I am sure, if I researched enough, there would be more.

Now this is just with language from the fringe part of the NRA pushing this meme. I have to wonder how much, if any, that meme will be believed because a main stream politician has now stated it and is using it as a reason for people to vote for him. And what is going to happen once PBO is re-elected. To me, Romney was speaking directly to that part of the population which contains enough gun fanatics to spark something. I now have a new saying, “Romney talking may result in people’s deaths.”

This is what is so frighten about Mitt Romney, he lies and he don’t give a dam if anyone knows he is lying. This is a man who talks, no he doesn’t talk of his religion. But people know that he came to be a Mormon, and is it okay to tell lies in his religion.

japa21, there are already enough idiots out there who think President Obama want to take their guns away. Mitt Romney warns NRA against an ‘unrestrained’ second-term Obama

      ——————————-

Even before Romney’s speech, the Obama campaign hit back with a statement attacking the presumptive GOP nominee, along with a hefty file of news clippings intended to show that he had a checkered history on gun rights.

“The president’s record makes clear the he supports and respects the 2nd amendment, and we’ll fight back against any attempts to mislead voters,” said campaign press secretary Ben LaBolt. “Mitt Romney is going to have difficulty explaining why he quadrupled fees on gun owners in Massachusetts then lied about being a lifelong hunter in an act of shameless pandering. That varmint won’t hunt.”

This is standard NRA mantra. They always use that against Democrats. Remember Kerry’s hunting adventures to “prove” that he was not against guns? Trying to scare people into buying more guns. They are obviously getting good traction. This was Romney trying to convince the wary NRA that he is in agreement with them.

I think our biggest obsticles are voter disenfranchisement and down ticket candidates. If you think PBO is stymied with the critters he has to work with now, expect a total blockade if we don’t replace senators and reps on both the fed and state levels. Look no further than to states with Repub govenors for a prelude of what’s in store.

Hi kasai! you’ve been missed :-)
I agree with you that the handing over of the land title from one man of African descent to another was touching on so many levels for me.

Thank God he isn’t. Maybe next time around. America needs a dam good President and though some doubt it, that’s what we have. And I pray will keep for 4 More Years.

Just finished watching the last 10 min of Grand Torino and I realized that Clint Eastwood is the only repub I can stand. Of all the actors I know of who are repukes, he’s the only one I allow myself to watch. I used to just adore Everybody Loves Raymon and Deb was my fave character but about 2 years ago I learned she was a repuke and I quit that show cold turkey. Oh! TNT replaying the movie!

Let me get this straight! With Joe Lieberman by his side, Netenyahu released a statement accusing Iran of getting away with a freebie.
Wait…, WTF? First, how dies Bibi know American slang? Second, Joe Lieberman by his side???
Is anyone else concerned, that Bibi is being led around by the Nose by Neo Cons?

Bibi is a big Neocon himself. He’s quite familiar with the US. He lived here for a while & went to school at Harvard & worked with MittBot after graduation. NYT story last weekend I think.

Cat, Bibi studied in Boston, but not at Harvard (at MIT). For a while he and Mitt worked at the same company in Boston, I believe..

No Harvard for Bibi, though he did work with Willard for a while and the two are ‘friends’.

“Before I made a statement of that nature, I’d get on the phone to my friend Bibi Netanyahu and say: ‘Would it help if I say this? What would you like me to do?’ “ – Mitt Romney to Gingrich in one ot their many debates.

Hi Chips, Good job. I hope the priest was not lecturing the president about the “mandate to give free birth control to everyone” as wingnuts would say. I’m sure he was nice, unlike Father Dolan.

LOL I certainly hope he was unlike Dolan (no father to me, the scumbag) But if he did, I would hope the president would come back with something along the lines of ‘Yes, now about all those little boys around the world….’

So could MO…..they are definitely a class act. They would make the perfect runway couple. Him adoring her and she lovingly teasing him. The way he checks her out sends a message and reminds me of the Four Tops song,”Ain’t No Woman Like The One I Got.” Snd her song to him,”hat Man, What A Mighty Good Man”(she made it clear, “that’s MY man”)…… I am sure the best part of the trips he venture off to is returning back home to MO.

Job well done, Mr. President. Welcome home!

    Sorry….”What a man……

Chips thank you so much once again for covering this historical trip for us here. What would we do without you?

    I have a question:
Will this sorry WH corp. stay around for the next four years or do they get others assignments? Can we vote them off? Fire them, maybe? Even better Ms. Ann may need some extra nannies for the grandchildren……or something

Can we vote them (WHpress corps) off?

Mine would absolutely be the first vote, even if I had to line up overnight to be counted! LDS, You have NO idea how their ignorance of their roles as journalists frustrates me! I am routinely flabbergasted that they do not seem to ‘grow’ from one press occasion to the next, and part of my fed-up-ness with them is that they totally refute my long held theory that everyone can learn.

Anniebelle, my brothers and sisters thought they were Motown……the words to that song, “I kiss the ground she walks on”, when POB looks at MO reminds me of the speech she gave at the DNC and he was all smiles beaming and grinning with pride. Like they had jus met.

I would like to see them on a runway together, the chemistry and all. But right now we have a country to save……that can wait.

LDS, I look forward to the time when POTUS and FLOTUS campaign together. I alway enjoy that in 2008. I will never forget the fist bump, and when POTUS almost gave her a pat on the behind.

Gillibrand on Obama: ‘He Fights for Women’

As President Obama and Mitt Romney duke it out for female supporters, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand went on Meet the Press to respond to volleys fired from GOP rivals. According to the New York legislator, Obama has continually looked out for women’s issues but the Republicans are a different story. “It’s Barack Obama whose first bill he ever signed was the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act which allows women to fight for equal pay for equal work,” Gillibrand said.  “Mitt Romney, his hero is the governor from Wisconsin who just got rid of the equal pay laws there!”

Didn’t Ann and Mitt Romney say that women care about the economy. Well not getting paid the same amount as a man does for doing the same job, that affect women in the pocket book. But Mitt supports what Gov. Walker just did, by getting rid of the equal pay law. Now explain to me how this is not a war on women by Romney and the Republicans.

I am waiting to see how much attention the sorry ass media is going to these comments were Mitt Romney said that he was against calling stay at home Moms “Working Moms”. He said these women need to learn the dignity of work.
