    Good morning Chips & TODers!

    Congrats on 1st cookemom!

    #ItsTheLiesAmerica

And, never, ever forget the direct link between Reagan’s treasonous selling of arms to Iran to support his totally illegal war in Central America, to Cheney’s duplicity in the matter as a Senator, to Cheney & Rove constructing all the lies that dupe GWBush willfully purveyed to the American people as to launch the illegal war on Iraq, to @MittRomney. It has been LIES & TREASON ever since Nixon, with each iteration becoming ever more likely to destroy the Republic. That is what the next few months must be focused. Once and for all time we must eradicate the Party of Koch & Norquist, the Grand Old Plutocratic (GOP) white supremacist cabal.

AND the traitorous deal to hold the hostages so Carter wouldn’t get credit.

AND Bush 41 LYING about the size of the deficit before Clinton took office.

AND GWB keeping the extent of the economic collapse a secret in 2008 so the likes of Ron Christie and other Republican shills saying “Obama promised 8% unemployment” when he had NO IDEA how bad the recession was.

      Good afternoon TOD.

Great tweet, aamom. Obviously there is a blackout of President Obama’s trips. If the MSM just missed coverning one trip then I could give them an “incompetent” grade. But EVERY trip? This is intentional.

        April 15, 2012 at 2:02 pm

Too busy reporting on the honeypot scandal that in no way involves the President but offers the media a chance to brand it a distraction and link it to the trip. It is not what you say but what they hear.

    • 38 theo67
      April 15, 2012 at 3:19 pm

The honeypot scandal, as conlakappa so elegantly phrased it, happened BEFORE President Obama even arrived in Colombia. It’s a real shame that taxpayers have to pay for the press to travel with him when they don’t report anything worthwhile during the time that they’re there.

FAREED ZKARIA GPS: Interview with Gene Sperling

    ———————————

Watch GPS: Did Republicans slow the U.S. recovery?

On Fareed Zakaria GPS this week, the most important issue: the economy. Fareed goes one-on-one with President Obama’s top economic adviser: Director of the National Economic Council Gene Sperling.

      April 15, 2012 at 2:19 pm

As I watched Fareed Zakaria interview Gene Sperling, I kept thinking what a pleasure it is to see this brilliant man speaking plainly and clearly about our current economic crisis. President Obama put a lot of time an effort into picking his cabinet. They were picked because of their excellence and qualifications for the job. So many of the cabinet secretaries don’t get the credit they deserve for quietly (under the radar) making government more efficient and accountable to the American people.

        April 15, 2012 at 4:29 pm

I watched Gene Sperling also LH and he was incredible. I adored how plain spoken he was. He gave clear concise fact filled answers, his disdain for Paul Ryan and the Ryan budget came across loud and clear. He’s very smart and it was a pleasure to watch his respect and admiration for PBO spew forth like a geyser.

    April 15, 2012 at 1:31 pm

Happy Sunday, TODers. Hope everyone is well.

Yesterday was moving out day. It was exhausting…and, O.M.G, expensive!! The movers charged me $1,172 to move my things into storage. Including moving supplies like boxes, tape, bubble wrap etc, my move cost me almost $1,500. It was expensive, but it was a lot of work and I lived on the top floor of a 4-story walk up. Moving companies charge per hour and the whole move took almost 8 hours. They broke some of my furniture and ruined some other things, but I’m not going to complain. My things are out of the apartment, and I’m so grateful to you guys for making that happen.

My Tucker is back with me, and we’re just so happy. We’re whole again. He’s lost quite a bit of weight, his coat is dry and dull, and he’s been lethargic and sleepy since I got him yesterday, but he’s well. He’s eating and going potty. Always a good sign. :-)

I planned for us to head up to Maine to LunarSea today, but I won’t be able to leave until tomorrow morning. I got sick (a cold…awful sore throat. I think my body is just run down from stress and fatigue). Additionally, my neighbor, Nadia, whom I’ve been staying with since I left the hotel on Tuesday, has a daughter, Saby (pronounced Sah-bee), who’s been struggling with cancer for about 3 years now. She had thyroid cancer, which she was treated for and was in remission, but then she started having seizures (she wasn’t aware of it). A scan of her brain revealed a malignant tumor. She’s been receiving low dose radiation to the tumor for the past month. Yesterday, when Nadia didn’t hear from her, she went to her apartment and found her in bed. She tried unsuccessfully to wake her. She rushed her to the hospital. Saby still hasn’t awakened. As you can imagine, Nadia is devastated. I feel so utterly useless. Nadia has been so kind to me. Cooking for me. Helping me pack. Mothering me… Please pray for her and Saby. Please pray Saby comes back to Nadia.

I’m so fortunate. So many people have reached out to me and shown me love and kindness. I hope there’s a purpose to this phase of my life. I have to find a way to pay forward everything I’ve received and make a difference in someone’s life.

Have a great day, everyone. Will update you once I get to Maine tomorrow. Big hug from me and wet kisses from Tucker. :-)

    • April 15, 2012 at 1:42 pm

Thank you for the update. We are all very happy that you will be heading to Maine and not a homeless shelter without Tucker. And don’t feel useless about your neighbor. Just call her regularly and offer support/advice. Its all most people ever need. Someone they can talk to.

Been thinking of you everyday. So happy that you and Tucker have been reunited and are together again:) I can’t imagine being away from my baby(dog) for any length of time. We do what needs to be done.I am so sorry to hear about little Saby and Nadia. In the time you have left in NY, just be there for her…an ear to listen and arms to hold her. What will be, will be. I read your updates to all of us, and realize how extremely difficult life can be. No matter what all of us face individually, someone always seems to be in a worse way than we are. You are not useless to her. She is afraid, just like you were.Just be the friend that you always were. She won’t ask for anything more.

I pray for your safe trip to Maine to decompress and regroup with LunarSea.The kindness of that offer amazed me, and you will finally be able to breathe. Please know that you are loved and in the thoughts of all of us. One foot in front of the other, one day at a time, and you will get to where you need to be.

Hugs to you and Tucker. A book is writing itself in your head right now…be well, and please check back when you get to Maine:)

Hachiko, so wonderful to hear your positive update. Thanks for sharing about Saby and Nadia. I will pray for both of them. Good thoughts and beautiful energy will surround them, and I pray and have faith that it will. Your friendship will also help your friend make those steps to get her through this time in her life. You take a blessing and share it with another person who is now in your life. Just keep passing the blessings along, there in lies the beauty within our souls. We receive, and we give back.

Drive safely, be encouraged, and share your blessings with those around you. Your focus on the best gifts in your life with certainly will keep your grounded through this journey. Thanksgiving is the key. This is just a turn in the road to a better journey in your life. Make the very best out of your journey and enjoy the gifts of your friends.

We love you, and we are so grateful that your trials led to so many blessings. Be kind to yourself, and know that your path will lead to beautiful things for you and others. Hold dear to your gifts of love with and to Tucker, and may God’s precious angels of protection, love,, and compassion be your passengers on this ride. ((((((Love to you)))HZ

    Left coast morning to everyone.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I’ll be a bit out of communication for I’m not sure how long. Our internet went out at work on Friday afternoon, and there is no time estimate for Verizon coming out to fix it. They could come Monday, or we could be out all week. Of course, everything we do at the library depends on us having the network up and running, so it’s damned infuriating.

Something needs to be done about getting out the facts. I have watched a couple of Sunday morning shows this morning and the msm doesn’t get into the truth all they seem to do is try to smack the left over the head with right wing talking points case in point George S and David G.

I must say that Kristine Vanderhoofle did a great job this morning pushing back on the misinformtion and did great in pushing back on the Mitt claims of PBO has gutted 92% of women’s jobs when the fact is republican governors have earned that honor by firing public workers (teachers, librians, social workers, etc) who are mostly women.

It really irks me that they try to blame PBO for the Bush recession and economic policies which are still law (2 wars, 2 tax cuts at the same time, plus no negoiation of drugs through medicare. Dems need to do a lot better job on introducing FACTS in thes arguments. LIES make me crazy.

  19. 97 Linda

This has to been the most ignorant thing Issa has ever said. It does not make any sense at all.

House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said Sunday that he believes there were more Secret Service agents involved than current figures say in the prostitution scandal that broke Friday night.

“We think the number might be higher. And we’re asking for the exact amount of all the people who ‘were involved,’” Issa said on CBS’ Face The Nation. An upcoming investigation, he said, will be “about how did this happen and how often has this happened before. Things like this don’t happen once if they haven’t happened before.”

    —–

Things like this don’t happen once if they haven’t happened before.”

    Huh?

( Once one of my children said to me ” I don’t eat at restaraunts that I never ate at before ” ) My reaction was the same ” Huh ” ?

    • 98 collegekay
      April 15, 2012 at 2:16 pm

I don’t trust Issa. The GOP will do their best to milk this. They want to connect PBO to hookers; they’re so desperate for a scandal.

    • 102 hopefruit2
      April 15, 2012 at 2:24 pm

The biggest scandal of the week which the MSM is trying to distract us from is that Mitt Romney evaded his taxes repeatedly during the nineties and early to mid 2000’s, and currently refuses to release his tax returns for those years. Instead, he’s using his 2011 delayed return as a decoy – and the MSM lets him get away with it.

That’s the scandal the MSM should be focusing on. Not some silly SS misbehavior.

      • 103 Left-Indie
        April 15, 2012 at 6:28 pm

The msn is not there to always carry water for one side or another. I know here the believe is they’re always against our guy. That ain’t so. The Dems should know how to work the media, how to work few ideas repeatedly until they stick. How to make an event out of WAITING FOR MITT TO COME OUT OF THE TAX CLOSET. I believe we can get more done by pushing the DNC to do better than the msn.

        • 104 hopefruit2
          April 15, 2012 at 6:35 pm

With all due respect Left-Indie, I think your comment is utter rubbish. There has been documented evidence (with REAL DATA) showing that the corporate Media coverage of PBO is 91% negative compared to the GOP candidates which were all less than 50% negative. There is no way to spin this unless you are ignorant or intellectually dishonest.

Oh, no mi no (too) ignorant, dear Hopefruit2. We have limited ammo and it’s better aimed at the DNC to get their act together, keep the dems in line, sing from the same hymnal. Where Do FCC Members Stand on Posting TV Stations’ Political Ad Data?

On April 27, the Federal Communications Commission will vote on whether to require broadcast TV stations to post data online about who bought political spots they broadcast. Stations already collect the data and must make it publicly available, but they have resisted putting it online. Meantime, projects like ProPublica’s “Free the Files” are posting some data with volunteer help.

How might the FCC decision go?

The commission has five members, but two of the seats are vacant because President Obama’s nominees are stalled in the Senate. The three sitting commissioners declined to answer questions about the new disclosure rule, but their public statements suggest it may pass. Here’s a rundown:

Starting next year, the check will no longer be in the mail for millions of people who receive Social Security and other government benefits.

The federal government, which issues 73 million payments a month, is phasing out paper checks for all benefit programs, requiring people to get payments electronically, either through direct deposit or a debit card for those without a bank account.

The changes will affect people who get Social Security, veterans’ benefits, railroad pensions and federal disability payments. Tax refunds are exempt, but the Internal Revenue Service encourages taxpayers to get refunds electronically by processing those refunds faster than paper checks.

About 90 percent of people who receive federal benefits already get their payments electronically, the Treasury Department says. New beneficiaries were required to get payments electronically starting last year, and with a few exceptions, the rest will have to make the switch by March 2013.

‘Don’t Let It Fester’: Romney’s Tax Return Delay Could Bode Badly

    By George Stephanopoulos
    @GStephanopoulos

….The day after the president put out his tax information, Romney filed for a six-month extension on his own taxes, a move that Wall Street Journal editorial page editor Paul Gigot warned against today during the “This Week” roundtable. Gigot cautioned Romney not to “let it fester.”
    ….
….“I think that it’s important for any candidate in public office to be as transparent as possible, to let people know who we are, what we stand for, and you know, I think that this is just carrying on a tradition that has existed throughout the modern presidency,” Obama told Univision in an interview that aired today.

But ABC’s Cokie Roberts said Romney’s bigger problem is not his tax rate, but his massive income. The former Massachusetts governor reported earning $21.7 million in 2010, but paid a mere 14 percent tax rate….

    • 151 theo67
      April 15, 2012 at 3:42 pm

He didn’t “earn” that money. He received that money. Malia and Sasha “earned” their new puppy. President Obama “earned” his salary and the book proceeds (even though he gave the whole thing away). VP Biden “earned” his income. Romney “earned” nothing. He didn’t create anything. He didn’t endeavor at anything. He didn’t improve anything – except his bank account.

Given that the job creators justify their low tax rates because they’re apparently keeping the economy afloat and creating jobs, how does Romney square his 14% tax rate with having done nothing to actually earn it?

Timothy Geithner: Mitt Romney’s Claims on Women’s Job Losses Are ‘Ridiculous’

    By George Stephanopoulos

….Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner verbally smacked GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney this morning on “This Week” — calling his assertion that the policies of the Obama administration have hurt women and resulted in major job losses for them — fiction.

“It’s a ridiculous argument. Ridiculous. It’s been largely debunked this week by the people who have looked at it,” said Geithner. “It’s a ridiculous way to look at the problem. And this is a political moment and you’re going to be seeing — just to borrow a line from Mario Cuomo — ‘you’re going to see a lot of politicians choose to campaign in fiction. But we have to govern in fact.’”….

Tea Party Movement Looks Stalled; Half Like it Less as they Hear More
    By Gary Lange

….While overall support is roughly balanced with overall opposition, “strong” opponents outnumber strong supporters by 2-1. But perhaps most damaging is the buzz: Fifty percent of Americans say the more they hear about the Tea Party, the less they like it; just 27 percent say they like it more. That compares with a much closer (albeit still negative) 43-34 percent split on this question in April 2010.

These views have grown more negative particularly among young adults, seniors, women, moderates and people in the $50,000 to $100,000 income range, all with 10- to 17-point increases in “like it less” responses as they hear more about the Tea Party movement…..

Twenty-thousand physicians in four Midwest states received a glimpse into their financial future last month. Landing in their e-mail inboxes were links to reports from Medicare showing the amount their patients cost on average as well as the quality of the care they provided. The reports also showed how Medicare spending on each doctor’s patients compared with their peers in Kansas, Iowa, Missouri and Nebraska.

The “resource use” reports, which Medicare plans to eventually provide to doctors nationwide, are one of the most visible phases of the government’s effort to figure out how to enact a complex, delicate and little-noticed provision of the 2010 health-care law: paying more to doctors who provide quality care at lower cost to Medicare, and reducing payments to physicians who run up Medicare’s costs without better results.

Making providers routinely pay attention to cost and quality is widely viewed as crucial if the country is going to rein in its health-care spending, which amounts to more than $2.5 trillion a year. It’s also key to keeping Medicare solvent. Efforts have begun to change the way Medicare pays hospitals, doctors and other providers who agree to work together in new alliances known as “accountable care organizations.” This fall, the federal health program for 47 million seniors and disabled people also is adjusting hospital payments based on quality of care, and it plans to take cost into account as early as next year.

Bill Cosby Blasts Obama Haters Un-American Behavior

    By: Jason EasleyApril 15, 2012

COSBY: I’m disappointed that people who don’t look at the woes and the trouble given to this man, people blatantly speaking out against his color, wasting time, starting up new stories about whether or not he was born here, saying things that they can’t prove.
And this man — I feel sometimes — not all the time — that it’s like watching — his job is — people want to make it as difficult as the one that Sisyphus had.
And then when you see that he made promises and said things, the people who were supposed to be working with him didn’t. The people who are supposed to be working — even for another party — didn’t care about the American people. They wanted to get him.
When people make statements like, “I hope he fails,” you can’t color that any other way except the way it’s said. And yes, OK, gays, lesbians, blacks, illegal aliens — pardon me — people like that are right. It didn’t happen. But look at why it didn’t happen. It’s a man trying to go about doing his job, and a ton of other people voting against him and regardless of what he says.

Obama Criticizes Media Coverage of Summit of the Americas
By Kate Andersen Brower and Roger Runningen – Apr 14, 2012 1:09 PM ET

President Barack Obama said the media often ignores progress made at international summits in favor of more “flashy” news, as the Summit of the Americas was overshadowed by allegations of misconduct by his Secret Service agents.

“Oftentimes in the press the attention for summits like this ends up focusing on, where are the controversies?” the president said during a meeting with executives of U.S. and South American companies on the sidelines of the summit in Cartagena, Colombia. “Sometimes those controversies date back to before I was born.”….

….Obama said the U.S.-Colombia free trade agreement is an example of a “win-win” agreement that “benefits both sides.”
The agreement which is still being negotiated between the U.S. and Colombia would add as much as $1.1 billion in exports to the $14.3 billion in sales posted in 2011, the administration said, creating thousands of jobs….

THIS GIVES ME AN IDEA FOR A CALL TO ACTION

Tweet and email the “Things I Want To Bitch About” post (or your own version of the post) along with the principles of journalism to cable/network stations, newspapers, reporters, bloggers in your area (and beyond). Bottom line, all we are asking is that the basic principles of journalism be followed when educating and informing the public. The first principle of journalism is TO TELL THE TRUTH. We need for the media to stop worrying about facts having a liberal bias. Stop carrying water for the GOP. Stop being led around by the nose by the GOP with phony manufactured controversies. Stop with the false equivalence between the parties. Stop trying to set the narrative. Stop being obsessed with only reporting the negative angle of every story. JUST DO YOUR JOB. Tell the truth and let the chips fall where they may.

US home-buying season finally signaling a recovery
BY DEREK KRAVITZ AND ALEX VEIGA
    AP Real Estate Writers

WASHINGTON — Five years after the U.S. housing bust sent sales and prices plunging, the spring home-buying season is pointing to a long-awaited recovery.

Reduced prices, record-low mortgage rates, higher rents and an improving job market appear to be emboldening many would-be buyers. Open houses are drawing crowds. A wave of foreclosures is leading investors to grab bargain-priced homes….

….On a rainy Saturday this month in long-struggling Riverside, Calif., 12 families visited a three-bedroom house priced at $199,999. Ten others stopped by in the first hour of the next day’s open house. By the end of the weekend, two buyers had made offers.

“We’re seeing more buyer activity this spring than we’ve seen in probably four years,” said Liane Thomas, the broker who was showing the house…..

    Afternoon TOD

First off, thanks Chipsticks for making this fangurl afternoon, never tired of President Obama’s smile *sigh*

America you guys are one lucky bunch of folks…you guys have a leader among leaders… that you can always be proud
of whether he at home or aboard…JMO but if the MSM think this Secret Service scandal can hurt
President Obama, they are as dumb as they already seem…umm this is IMO a win win for the President (Christians and Women vote)…maybe
I am bias but by sending these SS home he demonstrated the following strong moral character + Christian values=Christian votes, faithful husband = married women), respect for women, trust-worthy whether home or aboard etc.

Sorry but the only thing I see here is desperation for scandal on the part of the MSM which always back-fires on them, because President
Obama is acting with integrity, which can’t be said about of those before him…so I wouldn’t suggest the Republicans go digging around about prior SS conduct they may not like what they find lol. I hope I made sense.

President Obama’s action demonstrate not condoning and that is what most will see he can’t convert them all, but he won’t be losing any over this pretend scandal on a Sunday no less.

President Obama didn’t try to conceal the sending home of the SS…knowing the appetite for scandal among the MSM…they always think they are smarter then him and he can always count on that…someone is getting played and it’s President Obama lol.

MUST READ, PASS, TWEET, CARRIER PIGEON…

    http://www.balloon-juice.com/2012/04/15/the-real-war-on-moms-has-a-mortality-rate/

The U.S. Maternal Mortality Ratio (the number of maternal deaths per 100,000 live births) is shockingly high, well above the average for the developed world, and higher than virtually all of Western Europe as well as some countries in Asia and the Middle East. Even more troubling, U.S. maternal mortality has increased in the last two decades, and is now more than twice as high as it was in the late 1980s. The Affordable Care Act included provisions designed to help stop this scary trend—not just by expanding health care access (many maternal deaths could be prevented with proper care)—but also through the Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting program, created as part of ACA, which provides nurses and social workers to work with high-risk moms, starting before they give birth, to help them have healthy pregnancies and deliveries and support their babies’ health and development after birth. The program is modeled after programs, such as the Nurse Family Partnership that have a strong track record of improving maternal and child outcomes, preventing abuse and neglect, increasing fathers’ involvement in their kids’ lives, improving kids’ school performance, reducing crime, and saving the taxpayers a boatload of money over the long term. But all that could go the way of the dodo, if ACA is struck down or repealed (and some of the right wing fear-mongering about this program must be seen to be believed).

They just PRETEND to care….we ACTUALLY DO CARE.
