A little cool? I had to resurrect my (thin) winter coat this morning, and yesterday I was wondering if I had taken off my winter tires toooooo soon! Not that I’m complaining or anything. watching the stream on Fox Atlanta that Chips linked to here. It seems that this is going to be a very big event – I had no idea that this many members of the military would be assembled at Fort Stewart today for the speeches by POTUS and FLOTUS
Ft. Stewart is huge.. and hopefully they turned out most of the base. Many years ago when I was in, an event like a President coming would require massive turnout.. I’m hoping thats still the case with our military.

But if the same insane vitriol continues at dKos, after taking no responsibility for what happened in 2010, then I will do a search for Jill’s work and avoid the rest of dkos’ b.s. This stuff had all but disappeared and has returned with a vengeance the last few days. There’s some serious pushback but I don’t have the energy to fight with these idiots when we have Republicans and Romney to defeat.

The GOP primary is over and Romney has shifted his focus towards the general election. They will use every dirty trick in the book. Creating division within the democratic coalition is obviously one of their priorities. It will be almost funny to witness a big resurgence of anti-Obama diaries on the “Orange”.

Jason Segel and Emily Blunt (The Five Year Engagement) just told cute, endearing stories about meeting President Obama at the WH on The View. Segel said Obama greeted him with “Jason Segel! I Love You Man” —-Segel’s film name—-and he said he blubbered back “I love you too” and then blurted out something about his Muppets movie, that Obama should come to the showing, that there was going to be Free Snacks!” Both said they were so freaked out. Blunt said that President Obama greeted her by telling her she was a great actress and she said she just started laughing hysterically out of nervousness, like a fool. Both very cute about it and obviously big fans of our pres.

A short and somewhat sad story about Fort Stewart. My son served there priro to and post his tour in Iraq. They had a special area devoted to a memorial for those lost in Iraq. They would plant a tree for each soldier lost with a plaque at the base. Originally they had a lot of space between the trees. Unfortunately, they ended up having to plant a lot more trees than they initially planned on. On one of our trips to visit him post tour, he took us to walk through the memorial. Another officer was with us and she said, with obvious bitterness, that all of these soldiers had died in vain. My son’s response was telling. He said, “No, they didn’t die in vain. They died protecting the rest of us who were over there.” What is noteworthy is what he didn’t say.

First, the Constitution doesn’t mention marriage because the men writing it could not have imagined why the federal government would have a role in what was essential a religious rite. Second, the Constitution was never meant to be set in stone , which is why it has a process for amendments. The writers were smart and they knew times would change. Third, time do change. The original constitution doesn’t include the right for women to vote or for men of color to be counted as full men. Does that mean we should have gone along forever without amending that? The speech that Vice President Biden gave yesterday was immensely satisfying. It was so great to see him go after Romney’s lies and debunk each one of them. But I have to say, my favorite section was on Iran. I am sick of all of the loose talk about war with Iran. VP Biden’s challenge to Romney to state exactly what he means about what he would do as it relates to Iran was spot on. If he wants to go to war with Iran then he should say so to the American people. Of course, it wouldn’t occur to anyone in the mainstream media to ask that simple question. Yvette Clarke, New York Rep., Notifies Police After Video Of Her Surfaces On Breitbart, Beck Sites
Rep. Yvette Clarke (D-N.Y.) notified the Capitol Police Thursday after receiving threatening phone calls, after a video of her appearing to criticize the Tea Party was posted on several conservative websites, according to a release from her office.
The video was first posted to Breitbart TV, created by the late conservative commentator Andrew Breitbart, and then picked up by Glenn Beck’s website, The Blaze.
The video shows Clarke speaking at a candidate forum organized by Prospect Heights Democrats for Reform.
“When I say dealing with the Tea Party, they came up in the hundreds of thousands. So we couldn’t walk outside of our office without tripping over Tea Party members. And these are individuals that had no problems with racial epithets, they had no problem with cursing, spitting and everything else, they came to intimidate members out of passing the Affordable Care Act,” says Clarke in the video.
There’s then a cut in the video, one of four in nearly two and a half minutes. “But the moment that they came in and really just showed the ugliest sides of the United States of America, you can imagine — it was clear to me that we were doing the right thing for Americans.”

He attended a breakout session where they discussed the four most dangerous people to the NRA cause. They were President Obama, Attorney General Holder, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Justice Sonya Sotomayor. The Republicans have been trying to take down Attorney General Holder from day one. I was watching it on C-Span, and FLOTUS’ signing was very clearly seen on their coverage—-when it posts, you should view it on C-Span. I also heard a female soldier or other person yell out something to PBO right before the signing, and he yelled back, “I love you too babe”. He always seems happier when he gets to do events with the First Lady. It made me smile.

Fox News contributor Monica Crowley has issued an apology to Sandra Fluke for a crass tweet that Crowley sent out from her account yesterday about the Georgetown Law student’s sexual orientation. “I certainly & unequivocally apologize to Sandra & anyone else I offended. Not my intention,” wrote Crowley on Twitter. Mediaite flagged Crowley’s apology, which came after a 24 hour maelstrom of criticism capped by a strong condemnation from the Georgetown Law student herself, who called Crowley’s initial tweet “hate speech” and “homophobic” on MSNBC last night.
Just think how those poor kids sitting behind him must feel. Not a smile in the entire building. They’re probably sitting there thinking, ‘aw why couldn’t we get PBO like those other schools got…bummer’

After winning several more presidential primaries this week, Mitt Romney delivered a speech his campaign billed as the unofficial kickoff of the general election. And while making his pitch as the presumptive Republican nominee, the former governor said President Obama intends to “run a campaign of … distortions.”
I very nearly fell out of my chair. After watching Romney closely for years, I’ve never seen any candidate in either party run a campaign of distortions as shamelessly as this guy, and this claim seemed to take the “I’m rubber, you’re glue” tactic to new levels.

According to a poll released late last week, 61 percent of college-age Millennials (the futuristic-sounding name given to the generation born in the late 1980s and early 1990s) are registered to vote, but only 46 percent say that they will likely do so in November. We have been studying Washington politics and Congress for more than 40 years, and never have we seen them this dysfunctional. The GOP has become an insurgent outlier in American politics. It is ideologically extreme; scornful of compromise; unmoved by conventional understanding of facts, evidence and science; and dismissive of the legitimacy of its political opposition.

Jason Altmire and Tim Holden of Pennsylvania — lost their primaries earlier this week largely because of their opposition to health reform. So they might well have lost their seats to Republicans in November 2010 had they supported the bill. Instead, they lost their seats to other Democrats because they voted against it. Sucks to be them.
They could have run on the fact that they banned rescissions or that a rebate check was on the way or that this is going to be a major job creator in their district. Instead they came back home empty handed and the voters let them know that was not acceptable. Good.
In Holden’s case, he would have lost his old seat if he voted for ACA, but not his newly redistricted one. He’s been leaning right for so long, he didn’t know how to compete in a real Democratic district. He was horrible on health care. I went to see him with a small group and his mind was totally closed to even considering the benefits that the health care bill would bring. He simply didn’t care because it would cost him his seat in his R leaning district. So this was Karma coming back for her bite.

Jason Segel and Emily Blunt (The Five Year Engagement) just told cute, endearing stories about meeting President Obama at the WH on The View. Segel said Obama greeted him with “Jason Segel! I Love You Man” —-Segel’s film name—-and he said he blubbered back “I love you too” and then blurted out something about his Muppets movie, that Obama should come to the showing, that there was going to be Free Snacks!” Both said they were so freaked out. Blunt said that President Obama greeted her by telling her she was a great actress and she said she just started laughing hysterically out of nervousness, like a fool. A short and somewhat sad story about Fort Stewart. My son served there priro to and post his tour in Iraq. They had a special area devoted to a memorial for those lost in Iraq. They would plant a tree for each soldier lost with a plaque at the base. Originally they had a lot of space between the trees. Unfortunately, they ended up having to plant a lot more trees than they initially planned on. On one of our trips to visit him post tour, he took us to walk through the memorial. Another officer was with us and she said, with obvious bitterness, that all of these soldiers had died in vain. My son’s response was telling. He said, “No, they didn’t die in vain. They died protecting the rest of us who were over there.” What is noteworthy is what he didn’t say.

Hachiko, Romney is an ignorant man and his statement was a prime example of stupid. First, the Constitution doesn’t mention marriage because the men writing it could not have imagined why the federal government would have a role in what was essential a religious rite. Second, the Constitution was never meant to be set in stone , which is why it has a process for amendments. The writers were smart and they knew times would change. Third, time do change. The original constitution doesn’t include the right for women to vote or for men of color to be counted as full men. Does that mean we should have gone along forever without amending that? I honestly don’t think Romney even thinks before he talks.

Yvette Clarke, New York Rep., Notifies Police After Video Of Her Surfaces On Breitbart, Beck Sites
Rep. Yvette Clarke (D-N.Y.) notified the Capitol Police Thursday after receiving threatening phone calls, after a video of her appearing to criticize the Tea Party was posted on several conservative websites, according to a release from her office.
The video was first posted to Breitbart TV, created by the late conservative commentator Andrew Breitbart, and then picked up by Glenn Beck’s website, The Blaze.
The video shows Clarke speaking at a candidate forum organized by Prospect Heights Democrats for Reform.
“When I say dealing with the Tea Party, they came up in the hundreds of thousands. So we couldn’t walk outside of our office without tripping over Tea Party members. And these are individuals that had no problems with racial epithets, they had no problem with cursing, spitting and everything else, they came to intimidate members out of passing the Affordable Care Act,” says Clarke in the video.
There’s then a cut in the video, one of four in nearly two and a half minutes. “But the moment that they came in and really just showed the ugliest sides of the United States of America, you can imagine — it was clear to me that we were doing the right thing for Americans.”

I’m not too upset about the farm child labor thing–it’s one of those win some lose some deals. I think the fallout from the far right would have hurt the President’s campaign. It would have been portrayed as a bill that would keep a kid from going out and collecting the eggs on his family farm. Even though it was not intended to keep kids from working on a relatives farm–it would have been exploited as too much regulation. The dreaded hand of govt. reaching into private lives–never mind the tranvaginal probes REALLY reaching into privates.

Chips, if you get a chance to see review the video of this event at Fort Stewart, I thought I saw FLOTUS use sign language again as she and PBO shook hands with those assembled. I was watching the CNN stream and this exchange occurred at a time stamp ranging from 1.11 to 1.13 p.m.
I do not know if I am right but these clips would do good for the outreach to voters with similar challenges. I do not know if we ever had a POTUS and FLOTUS who both knew how to use sign language
I was watching it on C-Span, and FLOTUS’ signing was very clearly seen on their coverage—-when it posts, you should view it on C-Span. I also heard a female soldier or other person yell out something to PBO right before the signing, and he yelled back, “I love you too babe”. He always seems happier when he gets to do events with the First Lady. It made me smile.

After winning several more presidential primaries this week, Mitt Romney delivered a speech his campaign billed as the unofficial kickoff of the general election. And while making his pitch as the presumptive Republican nominee, the former governor said President Obama intends to “run a campaign of … distortions.”
I very nearly fell out of my chair. After watching Romney closely for years, I’ve never seen any candidate in either party run a campaign of distortions as shamelessly as this guy, and this claim seemed to take the “I’m rubber, you’re glue” tactic to new levels.

I see on CNN that POTUS is addressing the Women’s Conference at 4.50pm.
According to a poll released late last week, 61 percent of college-age Millennials (the futuristic-sounding name given to the generation born in the late 1980s and early 1990s) are registered to vote, but only 46 percent say that they will likely do so in November. By way of comparison, in 2008, 58.5 percent of the same age group was registered to vote, and 48 percent of them actually did.

Today, however, we have no choice but to acknowledge that the core of the problem lies with the Republican Party.
The GOP has become an insurgent outlier in American politics. It is ideologically extreme; scornful of compromise; unmoved by conventional understanding of facts, evidence and science; and dismissive of the legitimacy of its political opposition.

Jason Altmire and Tim Holden of Pennsylvania — lost their primaries earlier this week largely because of their opposition to health reform. So they might well have lost their seats to Republicans in November 2010 had they supported the bill. Instead, they lost their seats to other Democrats because they voted against it. Sucks to be them.

This should be a bitter lesson for those small ‘d’ Democrats.
They could have run on the fact that they banned rescissions or that a rebate check was on the way or that this is going to be a major job creator in their district. Instead they came back home empty handed and the voters let them know that was not acceptable. Good.

In Holden’s case, he would have lost his old seat if he voted for ACA, but not his newly redistricted one. He’s been leaning right for so long, he didn’t know how to compete in a real Democratic district. He was horrible on health care. I went to see him with a small group and his mind was totally closed to even considering the benefits that the health care bill would bring. He simply didn’t care because it would cost him his seat in his R leaning district. So this was Karma coming back for her bite.

That was so funny to us but painful looking to the students. I still want to see an expanded view of his “crowd”. I think I’ve seen some of the same faces in other “rallies” of Mittens. Has anyone else noticed?
