You can also see the speech at C-Span
CONGRATS nintendowii !
President Obama… looking cooooooooooooooool!
oh my goodness. that is the president of the united states and not an action movie star!?! we are so lucky to be alive during this time!
ALERT! TOD family – grab plenty of kleenex before you watch this speech! You will cry and you will cheer!!!!!
hey GGail on the last thread you said something about TOD liveblogging – for what? I missing something…..
Hi a4alice, I said that I’m looking forward to us getting together tomorrow night like we usually do for the WHCD. If you haven’t been online with us…..you are in for a treat It’s a HOOT and a HOLLA!!!!
woo-hoo I’ll come on by tomorrow night!
You won’t be sorry!!!!!! LOL!!!!!
Yes, I did both … cheering still with tears in my eyes! What a speech.
I’m currently laughing at a HuffyFluffy article about John McOld whining that President Obama is playing politics with the anniversary of the operation that took out Osama bin Laden. This is the same John who said he’d follow bin Laden to the gates of Hell, said he KNEW how to get bin Laden but wouldn’t reveal how, sang “Bomb bomb bomb Iran,” and worst of all: unleashed Sarah McFail onto our nation. I could get mad, but I instead choose to laugh at his crying, old man STILL can’t get over the fact that he lost in 2008 and will NEVER be in the decision making chair with access to the nuclear launch codes.
That’s right. And McCain’s one of 100 and President Obama (THAT ONE) is the very-much-respected leader of the free world, and gets to make the real decisions about taking down OBL and others, and that’s only part of what he contributes to our security each and every day.
Someone has to remind him that he lost in 08. Translation: Get the fuck over yourself. Gah!
Oh, he’s reminded every time he looks in the mirror, before the tears and rage begin to swell up again. But, unfortunately, he’ll never be over himself. Gah x 2!
@SenJohnMcCain http://t.co/q4IoSMR9— meta (@metaquest) April 27, 2012
LMAO. Perfect. RT’ed.
It is clear that McCain have never recover from losing to President Obama in 2008. You use to have a sensible McCain before someone you disagreed with, but could still respect, not true any more. Now you have a bitter old senile hard right wing nut.
A old senile right wing who doesn’t deserve anyone’s respect. Today that is the old bitter sorry pitiful John McCain.
Thaks for the PBO clip chip. I missed it earlier and then had to leave.
cookemom – personal request – are you available to live blog the WHCD here tomorrow night? You’re one of the best at it! Don’t make me hound you.
Is this a joke? Or is NBC deliberately trying to reduce the Office of the Presidency?
I meant to post this:
Uh NO! RT @mediaite Ryan Seacrest To Cover 2012 Election For NBC News mediaite.com/a/flegc— Pnthrgrlgail (@Mama4Obama1) April 28, 2012
Enough with Ryan Seacrest. Must he be EVERYWHERE!?
He’s neither a journalist nor a political analyst, so I don’t get why he’s going to be covering a major political event like a presidential election! This is ridiculous!
Are they planning to set up a 1-800 call in number so people can vote for their favorites? So ridiculous.
See, folks like you aare the reason I have my keyboard covered in Saran wrap; now to find so clear plastic for my monitor…
Saran wrap is your friend!
Honestly, I don’t see the problem with it. Is Ryan any worse than these current talking heads and “journalists”. Matt Lauer’s a bonafide bimbo. If he can get an audience with political leaders and talk politics, I don’t see why Ryan Seacrest can’t.
itgurl_29 you have a point about Seacrest not being worse that the current talking heads – a very good point. Because what passes these days for “Journalism” is beyond me.
But I would still prefer that he not be providing coverage on election night because he is associated with American Idol – and I can’t help but think that the MSM/GOP are trying to create the impression that PBO is all fluff/celebrity and no substance and the 2012 elections are just a popularity contest. I could be wrong. Perhaps he is more substantive than I give him credit for. Needless to say, I will not be watching NBC on Nov 6th. I have other, better sources of getting updated info (like TOD) without the punditry and spin!
you are right about that itgurl_29
This just proves that the line between Journalism and entertainment is no longer blurred, there is NO MORE Journalism so they are just not going to pretend anymore….it’s all ENTERTAINMENT…all about ratings.
Actually, itgurl, much as I hate Seacrest, he’s head and shoulders above the rest of those media pinheads.
I actually agree. And he’s had both POTUS and FLOTUS call into his radio show several times and was more respectful to them than I’ve ever seen Matt Lauer be.
NBC was in talks with him about replacing Matt Lauer on the Today Show, which I couldn’t believe—-his background and experience is as a deejay—-top 40—–didn’t get how that translated into any kind of journalistic career, such as it is these days. But then Lauer signed some new 40 million dollar contract and poor Secrest was left to pick up the crumbs——covering the presidential election????? The news is just another American Idol now anyway——has morphed into an Entertainment Tonight program—–not much news on the news, no search or concern for truth, just a gossip and tabloid style presentation. So we get a DJ and talent show host emceeing the presidential election.
Let them kill their own profession. That’s how I feel about it. Their hiring Ryan Seacrest to cover politics is basically their admitting that they cover politics like it’s entertainment. As far as I’m concerned, propping Ryan Seacrest up as a pundit is the most honest thing the NBC news division has done in a long while. He’s an entertainment and gossip reporter/ American Idol host. In reality, he is not the least bit different from Matt Lauer.
I’d like to see CBS and ABC be as honest and hire Mario Lopez and Nancy O’dell.
40 million dollars to ask stoopid questions ??? Only in amurika.

Greedy Old Patriarchs
What can I do to ease my worry? I know it’s not till’ next Friday, but i’m shitting bricks over the April jobs report.
We’ll freak out together. I’m with you in the anxiety pool.
I’m not. And even if it’s a “weak” report it is what it is. PBO is having two campaign rallies next weekend and that will drown out whatever negative spin the media tries to put on the report. Again, I am 99% certain that the jobs situation is NOT going to be the deciding factor this election. If it were we would already have seen signs…Romney would be leading in most polls – he’s not. People are associating him with being out of touch and endorsing the very policies that are got us in this mess and the same policies that are stalling the economic recovery.
Even if it is about the economy, it will prove to be the death knell for the GOP for exactly the reason your motioned – their policies got us into this mess, and they’re just offering more of the same; they’re even brining in the same failed advisors from the Bush admin. And they’ve obstructed every measure to fix their mess. Let them try to make it about the economy.
At some point, he’s going to have to talk about his ”plan”. There’s going to be debates. The only thing he does now is attack the President.
He endorsed the ”marvelous” Ryan’ plan.
He said that he would repeal ObamaCare on day one…..yea right.
And so on.
The economy will be a factor, sure….but there’s so much more…
I love that Romney keeps talking about repealing ObamaCare on day one – we got a taste of what the President will do with that promise. He’s going to paint the picture very clearly what repeal will mean – including the impact to the deficit. I hope Romney keeps living in his dreamland – he’s hurtling towards a smackdown like he’s never seen before.
I have to agree with you. Mittens is facing pushback from the base for his pathetic pivot to the “center”. He’ll be kept on a short leash. I think this election will come down to who’s more trustworthy, and who understands this country’s problems better, not the jobs report. The fact remains that no one trusts Mitt, and that won’t change.
Mittens will be kept on a short leash
I’m afraid they hate PBO more than anything and will let this wasel a lot of room to tr and fool the already idiots”independents”.
This is true. And Mittens would have a fair chance of bamboozling if he were facing anyone other than Barack Hussein Obama. But he IS facing Obama, and the hurt will begin next weekend.
Think of Romney in his mom jeans……..ah……I see you’re laughing bucket loads.
Don’t trip about things you can’t control. This election is not just about the economy as much as the pundits try to label it a single issue election. The first quarter grew 2.2%. Private sector growth was 3.2%. Existing home sales for March 2012 grew 4.1%, the DOW, NASDAQ, and S&P ended on highs for the week. The jobs report may be good or lukewarm. It’s the trends that matter and so far we’re headed in the right direction. Plus PBO as a campaigner is a juggernaut. Never forget that.
This makes sense. I guess I need to stay away from the WSJ.
collegekay, as soon as murdock took over WSJ, I switched to the Financial Times. It’s worlds better, believe me.
Thank you. I’ll check it out.
The jobs report probably won’t be horrible. AP estimates that 175,000 jobs will have been added and the applications for UI benefits are slightly lower than those for March. UI will probably remain the same. The 4 week average is 381,750 which is the benchmark for a decline in the UI rate. The weather may have artificially moved the January and February figues upward and March and April figures may be artificially lower. All in all, not great news, but not alarming news either.
as long as we are not losing jobs at an increased rate but are holding somewhat steady or adding jobs it is good news.
Set backs are expected. But we will get through this. I see Help Wanted signs all over the windows of the local businesses in my area. Employment is picking up.
Peter King and his Repub House Boys are now planning to send their own investigative contingent to Columbia to really get to the bottom—pardon the pun—–of the SS scandal. Ridiculous. And 3 other House panels are planning hearings on the matter. Also ridic. Repubs are really trying to make hay with this story and make it somehow the fault of the WH, following Palin’s lead as she keeps asking on FOX, “Who’s minding the store?” I cannot be any more disgusted with this kind of ugliness. And the rumors of something similar in El Salvador?—–came from some anonymous “contractor”. Right. I’d like to know his background and political sentiments. These Repubs are absolutely despicable human beings.
Talk about gobinment waste. All these stunts are going to backfire on these muthafuckers so badly.
I know people like him, but I”m NOT a fan of Anderson Cooper. I think people give him the benefit of the doubt because he is gay and because of his Katrina coverage, but I find him to be a journalistic version of an ambulance chaser. He is the prime go to reporter for CNN “disaster” coverage. And other than Katrina, I guess (I wouldn’t know, I was too busy worrying about my own family in NOLA to see his coverage of it), I think he’s a phony. And his AC360 “Keeping Them Honest” should be renamed to what it really does, “Keeping Thing Falsely Equivalent”….it’s nothing but false equivalences disguised as “fair and balanced, middle of the road” journalism.
Totally how I feel – he’s an ambulance chaser (Katrina, coal miner disaster, others). How did he get his show? His only other claim to fame is that Gloria Vanderbilt is his mother, and not everybody even knows who she is.
And remember the Oil spill coverage? Every night for three months he had on that fool, Billy what’s his name, from one of the Parishes.
It was insufferable, to say the least!
Oh, right. Anderson was getting bitten by Louisiana mosquitoes every night, which I enjoyed tremendously. Think you mean former U.S. Rep. Billy Tauzin, one of the original blue-dog Democrats who turned Republican. Ugh.
(a journalistic version of an ambulance chaser)
Truer words were never spoken. That’s exactly how I feel about Anderson Cooper. I just can’t stomach CNN.
Retired Col. Wilkerson, former COS to Gen. Powell, who says he’s a Republican, is totally taking down his party on The Ed Show.
that was a MUST see.
The whole time I was listening, I was imagining his old boss Colin Powell feels the same way.
I would love to see that segment here. It was great.
it was a vision…he was brutal
I’m getting the video has been removed by the user.
Okay, for whatever reason this one works.
Thank you LOL.
Office supplies, invoices, greek columns zzzzzzzzzz
The looks on those students behind him were priceless in the ZERO COLUMN!
Yep! Romney’s a F**king Idiot. That’s the longest I’ve ever heard him speak and I did it because of the point of the speaking before Students Styles(LOL!). Zeus, he’s dirty ol’ man.
I like the way she says “I’ll take it”
Boner was pathetic today, saying their was no war on women, from the House floor. And guess what?
He then slapped the Podium, just like, you know who!
And after that, he descended on the nearest bar in search of his manhood.
this is the BS that got me on my rant about Anderson Cooper, he was all in the usual “both sides do it”
Hey everyone, peeking in for a bit and breaking my weekend embargo of political news. But, I have to say, when the day is like today–sunny, warm, the earth gleaming, getting work done around the house, playing with my power tools (god, I’m such a guy), and seeing the pictures of the Obamas in Georgia basking in what can only be described as love and admiration–it’s impossible to even consider that PBO and the Dems won’t absolutely roar over the next few months and on November 6. We ARE the change we’ve been waiting for.
While you’re taking a weekend embargo of political news don’t forget that the WHCD coverage begins at 6:30PM ET tomorrow on C-SPAN One.
Oh, UT, you forget that I’m on the Left Coast. 6.30 ET is 3.30 PT, and I shall be on the reference desk at that time. I shake my fist in furious anger at you ET and CT folks.
I’m setting up my laptop next to my desktop and I’ll be ready for the West Coast feed. Oh you betcha!
playing with my power tools
The blues win got to your head, didn’t it ?
Well, I’m having a viewing party for the CL final, so, yes, a bit.
Drunk Blues fan. You showing off your manly power tools… Yeah, that’s the ticket.
Good luck. Gonna need plenty of it. Just like you did in semis.
Spot the real kicker in that post. It’s got a Shaw-Churchilian ding in it.
Your weekend embargo isn’t going so well if you’re already back here so early on a Friday night – and you’re on the west coast…
A nice article from our friends at PlanetPOV. Should be titled the “Gop AND Media’s Cheat sheet for dissing good news!”
// By now it has become crystal clear that to Republicans, no news is good news. It doesn’t matter whether Osama Bin Laden is killed, the economy is recovering from the worst recession in recent history or diet donuts have been invented that actually reduce your cholesterol and make you lose weight, the GOP is bent (in many ways) on spinning every bit of good news that comes into something terrible.
As the Party of Nope and Deranged, the GOP has come to realize that there is no way enough people will vote for their party based upon their policies that only address the desires and needs of the top 1% and religious fanatics. So, their only path to power is by piling as much manure on top of President Obama and Democrats as possible and counting on people being so offended by the stench that they stumble away and blindly tumble into the sewer known as the modern GOP. //
Bottom line … to the total shivering horror of the white male #KOCHSTERS ….

Obama at the Women’s Forum: “women are not an interest group. You are 80% of my household if you count my mother in law and I always count my mother in law…”
He just won the mother-in-law vote with that one!
Regarding the upcoming jobs report, let the media try and spin it in Mitt’s favor. Everytime Mitt opens his yap, he destroys his credibility. Independents don’t like him, of course Dems don’t like him, and a huge number of Republicans don’t like him. Mitt is just flat out unlikeable because he tries way too damn hard to be likeable. That is evident when he did his southern tour and he said “I like grits, ya’ll” which INSULTED a lot of southern voters. He’ll win the south though, but not because the south likes him, they just despise Obama more. Fortunately though, this won’t translate into swing state votes. I posted a day or so ago how HuffyFluffy, being a HUGE anti Obama blog run by AOL and Queen Arianna herself, had their electoral map with Obama winning something like 290 EV, Mitt winning 150, and 70 EV as tossups… and that is HUFFYFLUFFY that has had their fair share of headlines “Obama sells out Liberalism” or “Obama continues the war on drugs,” etc etc etc.
Convention cities—-Tampa and Charlotte —–are starting to worry about the fact that they are in conceal-carry states—–and what to do about this frightening fact and protesters in a fired up environment. Yah, like what could go wrong? It’s so preposterous. As the Tampa mayor said, he can ban water guns but not real ones—-because of state law. Our gun laws are crazy—–no other countries can believe the laxity of our gun laws——-and the daily shootings and killings that are allowed to go on and on and on and on—-without remedy or recourse. It’s absolutely crazy.
Ed Schultz sure did his part in skewering the Donald. It was right at the end of his show and he replayed some of the White House Press Conference dinner from last year. President Obama was on point then. Can’t wait to see it this weekend.
Guys, do we know the exact venues of the rallies next week?
Ohio State University, Columbus OH, and Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA.
Ohhhh, I was in the rally at OSU in 2010. About 35,000 people, it was amazing. Obviously most of those kids didn’t go to vote that year – idiots – let’s hope it’s going t be different with the MAN on the ticket.
Correction, hopefruit:) It’s THE Ohio State University:) My school…we’re sensitive about that….but you are correct in every other sense!
I stand corrected df – THE Ohio State University!!!
Hi honeys! I’m home! Ahh… Tea is done, kitty on my lap, dinner in a little while… Now, where to jump in, and what have I missed while I was keeping the economy growing?
And SO, FYI: when I started to type in the word ‘honeys’, (meaning all o’ y’all), I wasn’t sure how I might spell it. Tried it first with an ‘ie’ instead of ‘ey’ and guess what? The word ‘ho n ies’ on iPad, comes up as ‘homies’! Way to go, Steve Jobs, and Apple, you are so far ahead of the rest of them! I just had to share this with you! On top of all the other fascinating info on this blog!
Enjoy kicking back and catching up!
So Mittens told students “to ask Mom & Dad” for money to pay for college. This dude is beyond help. He is so far removed from average people that it’s as though he lives on a completely different planet.
‘Yeah, Mom, Dad sign a check for $30,000 for undergrad and then, ohhhh, about $200,000 so I can go to med school. Thanks guys.’
Mitt Romney makes $10,000 dollars bets, and want kids to go ask their parents for $20,000 dollars to pay for college. This man is so out of touch. He is so dam out of touch. Don’t he know that if most parents who wanted their kid to go to college had $20, 000 dollars the kid wouldn’t have to ask for it.
The Republicans know deep down in their heart that Mitt Romney is a sorry candidate, but they hate this President so much, they would accept Hilter if they thought he could defeat this President.
The cynicism is beyond vast … but, it’s fully exposed and let’s make Boehner weep forever …

IT’S BEEN A ROUGH WEEK FOR THE REPUBLICAN PARTY
Mitt Romney and the Republican Party have been pummeled this week and they are freaking out. They are having a nervous breakdown right before our eyes because….
1) President Obama is too cool, very popular and people really like him as a person. (But we knew that)
2) President Obama had the audacity to create a campaign ad about the OBL raid. (McCain and Romney are outraged.)
3) President Obama spoke eloquently at the Holocaust Museum. Elie Wiesel introduced him as his “friend”.
4) President Obama visited three college campuses to pressure congress to prevent student loan interest rates from doubling.
5) President Obama appeared on the Jimmy Fallon Show and did the slow jam news on the student loans. (youtube over 3 million views)
6) President Obama went to Georgia and signed an executive order to ensure educational institutions do not take advantage of military personnel. He was greeted by over 10,000 troops.
7) President Obama spoke passionately at the Women’s Leadership Forum.
8) In a speech given in New York City, Vice President Biden gave Mitt Romney a bit of truth about President Obama’s foreign policy record. He basically tore Romney a new one and ridiculed his foreign policy team for looking in the rear view mirror.
Great list. I didn’t know the Fallon vid has 3 million views. That’s why all these pundits so mad.
neither did I, explains everything lol
It’s actually closer to 4 million – now at ~ 3.8m!
So perfect. Likeability matters. It just does. Great list, ladyhawke
Great summary, LH! Great week. More ahead – because each of us will make it so.
Thanks, Ladyhawke. And yes, as Bobfr stated, “great week. More ahead-because each of us will make it so.” That is how I truly feel.
A note: When 2008 came into my life, my best friend and I listened went to the library and read every book that we could find on Hillary. Bought those we wanted to read over again and mark up. We then began to listen, studied her record, and then Sen. Barack Obama’s record.
I then sat quietly and thought where I wanted to place my time, money(little that I had) , energies, and my heart and soul into making a difference in the future of the young peoples the seniors, my family, my best friends’ children lives, and students who had sat in all of the classes of mine for 36 years of my life.
I watched, prayed, and meditated for days, with much passion and compassion about what I would do to make a difference in a good way and with whom. I had choices, and I got in there and did everything that I could to make sure that I would make a good choice. I made my choice, and it was Senator Barack Obama.
Here I am, after making that very important choice. And, oh, what a tremendous choice, indeed. Sen. Obama gave me a new vision, a new hope that I had tasted with John Kennedy, Bobby Kennedy, Dr. Martin L. King Jr., and so many others in other professions, but I saw an excitement of hope like we had with John Kennedy and Bobby Kennedy. And I thought we could have something like this again but on a higher level.
Finally, I saw the young people moving through the crowds with faces of happiness, hope, eyes rivet on this young Senator, Barack Obama. Then I remember hearing him in 2004, and I remembered seeing the mood change a little. I knew we were headed in a new directions, but I did not know how long it would take, but I saw an intellect that I had not seen since Kennedy. I saw an empathy in Senator Obama that I had not seen since the Kennedy brothers, a fire that lit up the hearts of the young and the old from all walks of life. I saw America coming back to life like never before. I saw a gentle spirit inside of a ‘walking angel of goodness’. I saw a man who could see a vision of where he could take this country to bring it to another level that would be very fruitful in a sweeter spirit for all the world to see. I saw a man who could draw others from all over the globe in a place that would be fitting for all to be able to sit down and really talk and see how they could bring out the good in their people within their countries. I saw Change, I heard Change, I believed that we could and would change. I saw my future president. Our president.
Then We all made it happen. It was to happen, I believe. We did not know at the time what he would do exactly, but we believed in him. We worked our bottoms off., and we won. Then he has worked his bottom off for us each and everyday. And I will not allow anyone to erase those accomplishments from my life, my heart, and my soul from his hard work or ours. I am sticking with our now 44th President of the United States.
But I need each of you. We need each other. He needs us. We are the ones who will and can make it happen. We are the people.
We the people. We are the ‘better angels of this nation ‘ , and he is counting on us to help him finish the job. So, yes, I get weary, I get nervous, I get angry, I get mad at the ugly people, the hateful people, but if I could change them, I would. But I know that we can do great things again with each other. So, I am believing in good numbers for the jobs reports from now up to Nov., I am believing in our troops coming home as POB has promised, if not sooner. I am believing that we can win this thing. I believe that he has shown us his ‘better angel’ and his heart is so full of love, compassion, and care for all of us. He is brilliant. He is a true leader. He is a fighter.
Lastly, I believe in faith and a trust that good people who have been done really wrong, will be rewarded with goodness. I believe in our POTUS, and I believe that he will win this victory, no matter how much hateful money, and people are thrown in his path
I believe that each of us have been given a strong core within us to stand alongside of POB to help him win this for the future of all of those little babies, small children, little seniors being able to live with digniity;, little boys and girls who are counting on getting a fair share in someone’s classroom, and families coming back together to make new homes for their families to have again. And this nation having our colleges and universities filled again with great professors who will help us turn out the best and the brightest doctors, lawyers, engineers, accountants, computer innovators, greact scientists, and nurses.
I believe and have peace that we can and will do this. Otherwise, I would give up right now. But I watch, listen, and read about POB, and I just can’t leave him now, not at important this time in our country. I am in for the long journey, and I believe that our journey will lead us to a sweet victory.
((((((((((((((( We are going to hug each other as tight as we can & make this victory another sweet one )))))))))))))))))HZ
Thank you HZ. You express so clearly the belief, hope, and passion we all have to keep the dream alive and realize it more fully. I also believe in the power of the people. We have more tools this time around. We can’t let the media discourage us.
And, we will prevail!
HZ, your comment takes my breath away. You never cease to amaze me with your eloquent and passionate words. You are a treasure.
So true, LH! HZ is a treasure.
We have lived through the same times. JFK & RFK are the only National Leaders in my life that are comparable to our President Obama. The loss of each of them were crushing experiences, just as was the loss of Dr. King.

China blind dissident ‘in US embassy’
China dissident Chen Guangcheng is in the US embassy in Beijing following his dramatic escape from house arrest, fellow activist Hu Jia has told the BBC.
Mr Hu said Mr Chen – who is blind – had scaled a high wall and was driven hundreds of kilometres to Beijing.
Mr Chen escaped on Sunday, activists say, and has since released a video addressed to Prime Minister Wen Jiabao.
There are reports that his brother and nephew have now been held by police.

POLITICO’s Dylan Byers got an explanation from White House National Security Council spokesperson Tommy Vietor on why the administration allowed the NBC interview and the reasons for its unusual setting:
“The piece is in large part pegged off of that iconic situation room photo,” National Security Council spokesperson Tommy Vietor explained via email. “A year later there’s still enormous interest in the events of that day and the operation to kill UBL,” he added. “This is another window into that remarkable day.”
Vietor added that the White House held a video tour of the facility on its blog, and that the Bush Administration gave reporters a tour of the situation room in 2006.
“The conference rooms NBC filmed are really just meeting spaces,” he said. “The room itself is only classified if the topic being discussed is classified. There are daily meetings in the Situation Room about non-national security issues. I’ve had reporters in the Situation Room a number of times, and you’ve seen countless images of meetings in the Situation Room (for example the UBL raid or the Af/Pak meetings in 2009). Standard rules applied to the NBC staff – cellphone and blackberries are left at the door, and in this case they always had Situation Room and NSS staff with them.”

Excellent. This chart says it all.
Martz, that’s one helluva WAR ON WOMEN!!!! Setting aside the fact that I just do not understand Republican women, at least the R women had sense enough to vote FOR the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA)
Finally, those Republican women did something to be proud of.
This needs to go viral.
One of my “friends” on Facebook posted this pick. She wondered why all these men voted against it. Someone else said the bill must have been loaded with pork and that both sides do it blah blah blah. I had to contain myself before I posted my own. BOTH SIDES? Really? I made it clear that it wasn’t pork that stopped these Republicans, it was their bigotry.
Kay Baily Hutchinson tried to weaken the bill but her amendment failed….
Proof of more hypocrisy from the GOP about Marco Rubio:
… Mitt’s spokeswoman has called Rubio “a wheeling and dealing Miami lobbyist and politician, always trying to scam the system for his personal benefit.” Before stumping for Romney, national press secretary Andrea Saul was the communications director for [former Florida Governor Charlie] Crist, Rubio’s Senate opponent, and she assailed Rubio as “another typical politician.” Her biggest knock against the Florida House speaker: “With each passing day, voters are beginning to see the real Speaker Rubio, a tax raising Miami lobbyist-politician who has used public office for personal gain and political donations as a personal slush fund.” Asked by ABC’s Jonathan Karl about her comments, Saul declined to respond …
Of course, we recall Marco beat out Charlie Crist when he was no longer his party’s favorite as Republican candidate for U.S. Senator from Florida because of two tragic mistakes: welcoming President Obama at an airport and siding with teachers.

anniebella–I have spoken up against rascist remarks my whole life. I taught my kids and grandkids that people who are racist are not only dumb, but sinful. That’s what I think–it’s sin.
I remember a minister answering a question I had about sin when I was in elementary school . I had asked about it because it was a bit beyond my ken. Good and bad, right and wrong …. those made sense to me. But sin what rather amorphous. I remember he went to the chalkboard and wrote “s – I – n”. He explained that sin was the great big “I”. He said more, but I don’t remember the rest.
This is funny. I don’t get it, but it’s still funny.

HEADLINE: President Obama, Michelle Obama Receive Highest Award In Homeless Veteran Advocacy
// For their determination to put an end to veterans living on the streets, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will receive the highest honor given to homeless advocates.
The Obamas were chosen to get this year’s Jerald Washington Memorial Founders’ Award, according to the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans (NCHV), and Barack Obama is the first person — in history — to receive the award more than once. Barack Obama is tackling the issue with his “Opening Doors: Federal Strategic Plan to Prevent and End Homelessness,” an initiative that aims to end chronic and veteran homelessness by 2015. He’s working to meet this goal by mainstreaming housing, health, education and human service programs. Michelle Obama has been doing her part to address the range of issues veteran face, including homelessness, with the one-year-old initiative, Joining Forces, which she founded with Jill Biden.
They deserve every bit of that honor. Hands down.
Easily. Tweeted hf.
I love this – very well deserved.
Beautiful! Thanks HF. RT’d it.
This shows that the President and First Lady don’t just talk the talk, they walk the walk.. Great honor for them.

Didn’t one of mittbots minions say publicly that that cuban boy is a corrupt wheeler-dealer ?
Yes, I believe that would be Andrea Saul…..Romney’s spokeperson….flip/flop
Yes, Mitt…let’s look at the FACTS!
(CBS News) In the wake of an outreach to young voters by President Obama, Mitt Romney on Friday advised young voters at Otterbein University to separate “appearance” from “reality” this election season.
“Appearances do not always equal reality,” the presumptive Republican nominee said. “Facts are more important than words.”
Romney told the students at the Westerville, Ohio liberal arts school to be leery of smooth rhetoric, alluding to Mr. Obama’s likeability and ability to deliver energetic speeches.
“You’re going to hear a lot of words, but you will also have an opportunity to look at the facts,” Romney said.
This guy is in WAYYYYYYYYYYYY over his head.
A SERIOUS CHARACTER FLAW
Reading your comment is really frightening. There is something terribly wrong with Mitt Romney. He seems to be in some kind of altered state. I have never seen anything like this before. His entire campaign is built on falsehoods. It is clear that he will say and do anything because he feels he is owed the presidency. President Obama’s campaign has produced at least four “Mitt Romney vs Reality” ads that document and debunk the lies. There are countless articles and fact check sites that have refuted his outlandish claims. And Steve Benen posted his 15th volume of Mitt’s Mendacity today. He has enough material for a book deal. The mainstream media is dropping the ball on reporting this serious character flaw. They are tiptoeing around the issue because apparently it is impolite to call a lie a lie. At this point, I have no idea what Mitt Romney stands for. I don’t believe a word he says about anything. That should cause some alarms to go off.
desertflower, All that coming from a guy who you don’t know who or what he is. He changes every which way the wind blows. A serverely conservative or what. Giuliani said Mitt Romney is a man without a core.

Just a little reminder about how the Republicans politicize
The Republican vision
Look here! Mitt actually put some of those Otterbein students to sleep the other day!
Ha! Imagine what those faces would look like if it was PBO standing in front of them!
Oh wait! There’s even more to the story than meets the eye!
Mitt Romney yammered on about class warfare, and how President Obama is always attacking success, and why don’t kids today have the bootstrapitude it takes to up and start a multimillion dollar sandwich chain like Romney’s good friend Jimmy John did by borrowing $20K from the parental units.
The National Labor Relations Board issued a complaint Wednesday finding that Twin Cities Jimmy John’s owned by MikLin Enterprises unlawfully threatened, disciplined and terminated workers for engaging in union activities.
The complaint about the sandwich shop stems from a March incident where six supporters of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) were fired after protesting the company’s lack of paid sick leave.
Among the findings against Jimmy John’s in the complaint: “Disparaging and threatening pro-union employees on Facebook, removing union postings from stores, interrogating employees about their union activities, and threatening mass firings for union organizing.”
BAM! A two fer!
Mitt’s team needs to at least make an effort at vetting his statements and facts.
I say let him fumble fuck around.

Getting a clue?????????????
We have been studying Washington politics and Congress for more than 40 years, and never have we seen them this dysfunctional. In our past writings, we have criticized both parties when we believed it was warranted. Today, however, we have no choice but to acknowledge that the core of the problem lies with the Republican Party.
The GOP has become an insurgent outlier in American politics. It is ideologically extreme; scornful of compromise; unmoved by conventional understanding of facts, evidence and science; and dismissive of the legitimacy of its political opposition.
When one party moves this far from the mainstream, it makes it nearly impossible for the political system to deal constructively with the country’s challenges.

Bruce Bartlett on Where the Right Went Wrong
February 10, 2012
In this Moyers & Company segment, Bill Moyers talks with conservative economist Bruce Bartlett, who wrote “the bible” for the Reagan Revolution, worked on domestic policy for the Reagan White House, and served as a top treasury official under the first President Bush. Now he’s a heretic in the conservative circles where he once was a star.
Bartlett argues that right-wing tax policies — pushed in part by Grover Norquist and Tea Party activists — are destroying the country’s economic foundation. When he called George W. Bush out as “a pretend conservative” in his book Impostor: Why George W. Bush Bankrupted America and Betrayed the Reagan Legacy, Bartlett was fired from his position as a senior fellow at a conservative think tank. His new book is The Benefit and the Burden: Tax Reform — Why We Need It and What It Will Take

BIG MONEY AND BIG MEDIA – A TOXIC BREW
This is a fascinating, informative and discouraging discussion. Marty Kaplan explains how the mainstream media ensures there is always a horserace to keep the money flowing. This comment blew me away: The other day, the president of CBS, Les Moonves, was reported by “Bloomberg” to have said “Super PACs may be bad for America, but they’re … good for CBS.” I mean, there it is. This is a windfall every election season, which seems not to even stop ever, for the broadcast industry.
Marty Kaplan on Big Money’s Effect on Big Media
April 27, 2012
Big money and big media have coupled to create a ‘Disney World’ of democracy in which TV shows, televised debates, even news coverage is being dumbed down, just as the volume is being turned up. The result is a public certainly more entertained, but less informed and personally involved than they should be, says Marty Kaplan, director of USC’s Norman Lear Center and an entertainment industry veteran. Bill Moyers talks with Kaplan about how taking news out of the journalism box and placing it in the entertainment box is hurting democracy and allowing special interest groups to manipulate the system.
“It’s all about combat. If every political issue is [represented by] combat between two polarized sides, then you get great television because people are throwing food at each other,” Kaplan tells Moyers. “And you have an audience that hasn’t a clue at the end of the story, which is why you’ll hear, ‘Well, we’ll have to leave it there.’”
“The problem is that there’s not that much information out there if you’re an ordinary citizen. You can ferret it out, but it ought not be like that in a democracy,” Kaplan says. “Education and journalism were supposed to, according to our founders, inform our public and make democracy work.”

About that school Mitt was at yesterday…
Otterbein College is a small, private school with religious affiliations. According to their website, the comprehensive fees for 2011-2112 are nearly $38,000 with no discount for in-state students. Add to that the cost of books, spending money, transportation to and from home, clothing and incidentals, and the cost of keeping Biff or Muffy in school easily soars into the mid-40′s.
Is it possible he did not know this ?

Do you have any idea why Alex Witt is a Pundit?
I can’t figure her out. Except to say, she feels(as her show realizes), that all Republicans are great and Democrats ate bad for the Country.
She does not belong on Fox, more so RW Radio. She is that Partisan.
She just did an interview with Dick Halperin, that was basically a Koch Ad for Robney.
And she followed that crap with- and at 1 we will have more with Halperin on the kind of Man Mitt Robney really is, that only Mark has gotten to see.
This lady on tv, might just be drafted by the Birch Society one Day, she is that bad.
Such a stark comparison, to how when the President speaks, he is optimistic and very Patriotic.
This is not how he is portrayed by the Pundits, who are in the process of a Swift Boat campaign, using ads as their way to make us feel so doomed that we will all gleefully support the Ryan budget and whatever other austerity measures that Ayn Rand has planned for us!
A weekend anchor for MSNBC failed to pay back a $65,000 loan to her best friend despite signing a $200,000-a year contract with the TV network, according to a lawsuit.
Alex Witt splashed out on a trip to Barcelona and bought a Porsche 911 but did not have enough cash to give Stephanie Jones her money, it is said.
Witt supposedly agreed to pay back $500 a month but has so far only produced $1,375.

She is a Diva?
Major broadcasters will be required to post documents detailing who is purchasing political ads and how much they cost, following a Federal Communications Commission vote Friday.
The panel approved the measure 2 to 1, with the Democratic commissioners in favor and the lone Republican opposed.
The new rule will require TV stations to submit records to the FCC Web site showing the purchasers, cost and frequency of political ads run by their stations, information they now must maintain in paper records available if requested in person.
Democrats have assailed the growth in political spending by interest groups in recent years, which has largely favored the GOP. The FCC vote is the latest in a series of moves by Democrats to increase disclosure of political donors and spending on campaign advertising.
The debate over the rule pitted transparency advocates against broadcasters, who resisted publishing pricing information. In the end, neither side was fully satisfied with the outcome.
