Ok folks…just read excerpts from @BarackObama speech tonight…all I can say is #hotfire! You should tune in!!!— Richard A. Fowler (@Richardafowler) May 01, 2012
Yeah. If you watch the video, when he began talking about how much Michelle and he admire, respect and are proud of the troops and how he wants them to know that they will always be taken care of, he choked up a little.
I saw it live, for once, sneaked out during the Mariners game. It melted my heart, he is so very human, but in the highest expression of what we can be. Alll the time. He makes me so proud!
He did look like he was choking up. It must be such a powerful feeling to be standing up there speaking to so many troops who have been through so much sacrifice.
And if Cheney and his puppet Bush hadn’t gone into Iraq and devoted our full attention to Afghanistan, we would have many more soldiers alive—as well as Iraqis and Afghans—and owe trillions of dollars less.
Tweety has turned on a dime, as is his habit—–asking everyone how PBO sells the “continuing military effort” in Afghanistan—–just said “2024——thats a long way out on the horizon”.
OK I guess I can y’all now. PBO is in Afghanistan. I knew it all along but he swore me to secrecy. It ain’t easy hiding AF1 in my yard. I had to use all my bushes and trees as decoy. BTW, he’s speaking to us now.
giving aswers to “why do we have a time line to leave” and “why don’t we leave now” Really good message, very clear. Very strong. He’s really good. Ties Afghani war to OBL.
talking bout veterans and military families. talking bout “renewing America. a united America. ” ” we build our future as one people, one nation.” Now remembering soldiers who lost their lives. good stuff.
All done. He did good. Turned off online c-span immediately. Don’t need callers’ opinions. He said what he said. I watched also on tv, local cbs affiliate. No way was I watching Tweety and fickle friends. Long live PBO, the Afghan people, and to hell with the haters in the US.
My local ABC station carried the speech without commentary, but there were at times side by sides with very old war footage and pics of Osama, and captions. Turned it ioff after PBO’s speech ended. Some of the stations in my area did not carry the speech. Jeopardy was more important.
PBO was the personification ofnthe CiC in total control.
"There are those who will ask why we need a firm timeline. The answer is clear: our goal is not to build a country in America’s image."— Donna Brazile (@donnabrazile) May 01, 2012
I saw this comment, and then the next one right on top. HILARIOUS!
It was 4:01AM in Afghanistan as Pres Obama dellivered his Address to the Nation. His 8th since taking office, 1st from abroad.— Mark Knoller (@markknoller) May 01, 2012
Obama's address lasted 11 mins & 12 secs, 3 mins 16 secs shorter than his average address. He blinked 24 times, 5 less than average.— Snark Knoller (@SnarkKnoller) May 01, 2012
too true. just imagine, instead of sitting on our tv screens polluting our air, he’d have been washed down the drain somewhere or decomposing in a compost pile. This is why we need contraception.
I’m not sure what you mean? I think folks can speak their minds here. Besides, I gotta thick skin. Nothing that is said here is life threatening to me….. Been there and done that.
His first speech to our troops was emotional, heartfelt and kind-on a personal level. This second speech to our nation was educational and forward thinking and decisive.
Like the rest of you, as soon as he finished, I turned the sound off. They don’t have the responsibility, don’t have to make the decisions, don’t face the repercussions…..they just TALK. He does the work and walks the walk. He is the hardest working president of my lifetime that I can remember. I can remember back to Ike clearly. If Knoller gets upset about golf…….he should have been around when Ike was president! Presidents NEED relaxation. PBO’s golfing outings are as necessary to his mental health as good food is to physical health.
I know Americans are tired of war, but it’s this President’s job to keep America safe. I want people to try to understand, that under this President we’ve taken the war to the terrorists, we had them on the run, and maybe that is why we have been safe, because we had they on the run.
Exactly, I just caught the very end of the speech. I can’t wait to see it in its entirety. But the commentary on Hardball is concern trolling and wringing their hands about this isn’t going to be easy. And what if this happens, and what if that happens, and what about Karzai. blah blah blah……..
The gasbags sit on their perches and criticize everything. What’s their answer tor how to handle this Afghanistan nightmare. Should we stay there indefinitely? The Bush administration left this mess and President Obama is cleaning it up. There are no easy answers. Thank God President Obama is Commander In Chief. I don’t know anyone else who could handle this horrendous situation better than him. Period. Full Stop.
This was an excellent speech, he said what he’s going to do, and if history is any indication – he will accomplish what he set out to do. Now some of the MSM talking heads are beside themselves. Dick Halperin, for one. That’s a good thing. Let them stew in their own rancid bile.
I thought this speech was good, but I wish the American people could have seen him addressing the troops too—-which was very moving—–I like him in that kind of setting best—–with an audience.
I fear there’s going to continue to be confusion about the agreement, what it really means, which will be intentionally negatively spun by our news media. And as I’m typing I hear Ed say that when he saw 2024——he wondered what that means, the costs etc. I heard some of the same stuff around here at home—-people don’t understand the reasons for the long term support.
If I were an American, I would write a book entiltled, “Post-Modern Phenomenon: How America’s 44th President Exposed the Stupidity of its Main Stream Media (MSM)”.
Hooray, hooray, no bases in Afghanistan or Iraq! That must really chap Bush and Cheney! They wanted permanent bases with access to all natural resources. One commentator said this is the first time that Afghanistan will not be left stranded by an army. Always before the army pulled out (i.e.Russia) and left the country wide open to other invaders or insurrection. This way they will be protected indirectly and helped to grow.
The important thing about this is NOT that the deal keeps U.S. Troops in Afg until 2014….they will be minimal. That is the LEAST important factor of the deal. Do these people even listen???!!!
Crazy..I was just watching CSpan and this guy (Republican) said that his family is all Republican, and he thinks that tonight just sealed his vote for…..Obama. He is from Maryland, so it may not matter, but it goes to show, Mittens does not inspire.
He may have been honest and really is a Repub, but there’s a lot of tricking on those call in shows. If I heard it once, I heard it 1000 times in ’08—–”I’m a lifelong Democrat, but I will not be voting for this candidate, Barack Obama!” None of them were “lifelong Democrats”.
Oh yeah, I agree, but I think this guy was for reals. He said he knew that him and his brother were going to be going at it till the election because of his decision.
BTW I don’t expect CNN’s “balanced” coverage to last I see AC360 is on now and I suspect the false equillence report,, oh sorry the “Keeping Them Honest” report is next.
*sigh* the talking heads were wrong again, glad I waited for the speech. The repubs will naturally lose their sh*t over this speech, quick somebody get them a box of Depends~
Listening to the speech, I’m thinking that although President Obama set 2014 as the exit date I think he has something more significant up his sleeve. In my opinion 2014 gives President Obama time enough to set up a C.I.A drone camp right in the middle of Afghanistan run by a coalition of NATO members. Al Qaeda and all the other bad actors in the middle east are near dead and are on the run.
For sure, he will continue to review the options, and is not afraid to change his mind. Already, pundits are hyping that 2024. I think PBO explained it clearly. If I can understand, me not being a military enthusiast, the country should simply listen to what he said. To heck with the talking heads.
“There is no more profound decision that we can make than the decision to send this nation’s youth to war, and that we have a moral obligation not only to send them for good reasons, but to constantly examine, based on the best information and judgment available, in what manner, and for what purpose, and for how long we keep them in harm’s way.” Speech to Chicago Council on Foreign Relations, November 22, 2005. Book :” Barack Obama: In His Own Words.”
I will continue to support my president. He could not let the tears that formed in his eyes flow gently down his face then across his heart, but I did it for him. What a president we have. My heart is full for this beautiful gift of a man that we enjoy as our 44th President of the United States of America, and will re-elect him again on Nov. 6, 2012.HZ
BBWWHHHAAAA, what a guy! I’m sure she thanks you for the warning. Just make sure those wheels are locked before you come in for the landing, woulldn’t want you to slide off the runway.
I always get nervous before PBO gives any big prime time speech. It’s my protective instinct that just seems to naturally kick into high gear where he is concern. And then he gives the speech and he just blows me away. He always exceeds my expectations.
“From swing state to firewall? A new poll of Virginia shows President Obama opening up an 8-point lead in the state, after two polls earlier in April showed likely Republican presidential nominee and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney with small leads. Now the Democratic-leaning firm Public Policy Polling (PPP) shows Obama with a 51 percent to 43 percent lead over Romney, as the numbers reveal a large gender gap among women and a GOP base not yet rallying behind the presumptive nominee.” – http://2012.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/05/va-poll-obama-opens-an-8-point-lead.php?ref=fpnewsfeed
All of the polling outfits have now released their first general election match up polls. Pretty much all of the polls show POTUS with substantial leads on a national level. And even better leads amongst the key swing states. Yet notice how little talk of polls there’s been in the last week. I can’t remember the last time I head a discussion or read a breathless article about some poll.
Oh, it’s going to be so fun watching the msm twist and turn and do everything they can to give Mitt a fighting chance. I can’t wait.
I just watched the address….Barack Obama is more than a President. They say, if you dont like the man, respect the office, well, to me, he is truly more than the office. He does not need a Presidential title, Barack Obama is THE WORLD’S LEADER!
Firewall, we’re going to need a bigger boat, breeched, five alarm fire, pick your euphemisms folks. Romney is about to walk into a lion’s den wearing steak underwear.
Yes—said SS whisked him right out of there—–will be home early afternoon—–and then attends 2 fundraisers!!!! I don’t know how he does it—–hopefully has a real comfy bed on AF1—–I suspect he does.
The MSM is starting to realize that Romney was running against WIMPS like Santorum, Gingrich, Perry, Bachman. The Obama campaign is going to show the Media & the Robney Campaign who is their DADDY. I can’t wait for Saturday Rallies regardless how the Job’s report will be & I expect it to be good news.
FIRST!
Winner!!!!!
Right on!
RIGHT on RIGHT on
Look how young thoses soldiers are. I love all the picks of the troops when he is near them.
nice!!!
Can’t wait.
Hot damn! Can’t wait.
Can’t get over him tearing up. Always gets me, always. Bastard.
Who teared up? PBO??

Damn I can’t wait for the speech. Thanks Hopefruit for the tease. I am fired up.
There’s his podium. WOOTTT!!!!
Podium! he don’t need no stinking podium!!!
Romney was out delivering pizza today….and PBO is giving prime time addresses *snickers*
And that’s the closest to real work that RMoney will ever get to.
I’m surprised he didn’t insult the pizza. Where the fu&^ is the anchovies and diamonds?
Delivering pizza in violation of state law??
PBO also visited the hospital there and gave out 10 Purple Heart Medals to wounded personnel.
And sent a radio message to the troops in the field.
Poor Joe Scarborough, he’s all butt hurt because President Obama keeps kicking ass.
saw it. what a cry baby.
Did he say something? Joe is such a hater…I would be too. The President is younger than him, but far more accomplished.
The podium is out. Damn,I am pumped up.
Look at the sour puss on Halprin’s face.
This shit is better than the NBA Playoffs!!!
You said it Don! I am an NBA nut but this is good!
Hahaha. No shit!
Avoid the tv. Pundits are pulling shit outta their asses preempting what PBO is gonna say and what effects it will have on the American public.
It’s on!
he’s on!!!!!!
Damn! where can I get one of those jeeps!
He looks damned good.
He is on!!!! Whitehouse feed has echoes. Changed to my local ABC station.
He looks so good!!!
OMG, he looks fierce. Incredibly, more and more handsome as the days go by.
That’s cause I gave him a good getting up day farewell earlier.
um………… I think Miche would have something to say about that……..
It’s the green jasmine tea, makes us shine from the inside!
I love that he pronounces Pakistan the way a native would. Not only because it’s a sign of respect, but because it drives all the bigots crazy.
“I love that he pronounces Pakistan the way a native would. Not only because it’s a sign of respect, but because it drives all the bigots crazy”.
worth repeating itgurl_29
He looks so good sigh
Sorry CK that I had to lead you astray this morning, but I was under strict orders.
he’s so sexy.
we won’t be patrolling their hills nor will we be building bases on Afghani land.
giving aswers to “why do we have a time line to leave” and “why don’t we leave now” Really good message, very clear. Very strong. He’s really good. Ties Afghani war to OBL.
talking bout veterans and military families. talking bout “renewing America. a united America. ” ” we build our future as one people, one nation.” Now remembering soldiers who lost their lives. good stuff.
Man. That is all.
BOOYAH!
Dick Halperin: “what the president says today doesn’t really matter because the timeline is so long.”
What does Dick know about something being so long?
I know, right? especially since his is soooooooo short……….. 3 inches.
…ahem….
Dick is a dick. F@ck him.
He looks awesome at 4:45am local time.
All done. He did good. Turned off online c-span immediately. Don’t need callers’ opinions. He said what he said. I watched also on tv, local cbs affiliate. No way was I watching Tweety and fickle friends. Long live PBO, the Afghan people, and to hell with the haters in the US.
Don’t watch any pundits. they are so full of bullshit.
I had to turn off MSNBC before I reached through tthe TV screen to strangle little dickie halperin & asswipe garrett with their own tongues!
those who can’t do, run their mouths. fuckwits.
Oh Man! What can I say? Speechless.
Yeah Halprin, President Obama really cares what the Republicans on the hill think.
WOW.
Another historic event for President Obama. The first time a President has ever addressed the Nation from a combat zone.
NAILED IT!!! PBO totally gets that concept!
WHAT A SPEECH……..
…..and the other guy is in New York delivering fucking pizzas.
I saw this comment, and then the next one right on top. HILARIOUS!
Well, Knoller is a Facetious bastard.
Chuck Todd’s father didn’t pull out soon enough.
ouch
LMAO! But now you need the soap… I agree…. Prime poster child for birth control!
Sorry ag. I calls ‘em da way I sees ‘em.
too true. just imagine, instead of sitting on our tv screens polluting our air, he’d have been washed down the drain somewhere or decomposing in a compost pile. This is why we need contraception.
AMEN.
My first reaction was a “shut up yardarm”…LOL. But, you and I don’t role like that. Still, that was funny !!
I’m not sure what you mean? I think folks can speak their minds here. Besides, I gotta thick skin. Nothing that is said here is life threatening to me….. Been there and done that.

Two great speeches in one day…..wow!
I know Americans are tired of war, but it’s this President’s job to keep America safe. I want people to try to understand, that under this President we’ve taken the war to the terrorists, we had them on the run, and maybe that is why we have been safe, because we had they on the run.
Loved your Julius Cesar post in the other thread.
Thank God President Obama is Commander In Chief

I will watch the speech again later. I was so destructed by his hotness tonight
The hotness was just rude.
Did you see how he walked off. Just swagger all over the place.
This was an excellent speech, he said what he’s going to do, and if history is any indication – he will accomplish what he set out to do. Now some of the MSM talking heads are beside themselves. Dick Halperin, for one. That’s a good thing. Let them stew in their own rancid bile.
I love My President!
PBO scheduled to be back home tomorrow afternoon. He will attend two fundraisers near DC when he returns. Busy little bee, our man is….
i’ll be glad when he touches down on the WH lawn.
I thought this speech was good, but I wish the American people could have seen him addressing the troops too—-which was very moving—–I like him in that kind of setting best—–with an audience.
Why are these stations carrying the misleading caption that PBO signed an agreement to keep “troops” in Afghanistan for 10 more years?
They need to be called on their misleading spin.
He’s keeping a support contingent there. Listening to Ed right now.

Oh lord dare I say it CNN actually had a “balanced” segment following the POTUS speech. MSNBC…not so much. Tweety coulda done better.
Personally, I’m waiting to see what Maddow and Schultz have to say. I have my suspscions, but maybe they will surprise me…but I doubt it.
BTW I don’t expect CNN’s “balanced” coverage to last I see AC360 is on now and I suspect the false equillence report,, oh sorry the “Keeping Them Honest” report is next.

Wheels up on AF1.
That’s what I tell my wife sometimes.
BBWWHHHAAAA, what a guy! I’m sure she thanks you for the warning. Just make sure those wheels are locked before you come in for the landing, woulldn’t want you to slide off the runway.
May he be safe in his journey home.

New post everyone:
http://theobamadiary.com/2012/05/01/president-obamas-address-from-afghanistan/
I just watched the address….Barack Obama is more than a President. They say, if you dont like the man, respect the office, well, to me, he is truly more than the office. He does not need a Presidential title, Barack Obama is THE WORLD’S LEADER!
Firewall, we’re going to need a bigger boat, breeched, five alarm fire, pick your euphemisms folks. Romney is about to walk into a lion’s den wearing steak underwear.
No banner, no codpiece,no flight suit, no false bravado…. Just straight talk from an honest, intelligent, brave man.
This!
Did you tweet this, Margie? Are you going to? It’s simple, truthful, and on point.
Halperin is on MSNBC, to sow seeds of discord, Period!
Me thinks, he works for the RNC.
Is AF-1 wheels up and out of Bagram?
Yes—said SS whisked him right out of there—–will be home early afternoon—–and then attends 2 fundraisers!!!! I don’t know how he does it—–hopefully has a real comfy bed on AF1—–I suspect he does.
