President Obama steps off Air Force One at Andrews Air Force Base upon his return from Afghanistan
****

President Obama, standing with Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes and Communication Director Dan Pfeiffer, sings “Happy Birthday” in the press cabin on Air Force One as it flies back to Andrews Air Force Base

YEA!
Winner!!! Helloooooooo GGail
Hubba Hubba – now that’s what I’m talkin’ bout
Thanks Chipsticks!!!!
I discussed this photo with a friend recently. I shall not repeat my line of the discussion because it might implant me for all times on the naughty mat.
Good west coast morning Chipsticks!
Good west coast morning TOD family.
I’m happy to see POTUS on the home turf
Thank God he’s home
Amen to that!
Amen.
I toldja josh marshall has gone all rogue. You can expect to see him on teann or poxnews shortly.
Good thing no one reads the NYT, isn’t it?
Debz, and the number of people who read TPM would probably fit into my living room. They all consider themselves smarter than the president and they can all go to hell.
The private sector knows that if this President had not laid the foundation then there would have been no rebound.
Josh knows better than that.
He’s got a taste of HuffPo going on now. Along with poor editing, superficial stories thrown together to get a sensationalized headline and more and more RW talking points, he’s just about to jump the shark. I don’t go there much anymore.
I agree. Last year I noticed his headlines started reading like bad news for Obama and the Dems. I think he wants one of those MSM gigs something fierce.
Me, I think he’s going for a big buyout, a la AriannaHuffStuff. He’s growing into a large enterprise and getting by on writing short paragraphs for clicks. UGH.
Meta, stop going there a long time ago. Not worth the stomach acid.
Duh …
The whole point of the recovery bringing private sector jobs is that – using keynesian macro-economics – it is a nobrainer for a government to hire the workers for the infrastructure projects directly, itself, without going through the middleman of the private enterprise.
The way to do it and convince the private sector it works is doing it through growth of employment by the private sector.
Eh, I don’t think he’s far gone yet. When he writes his own posts, he’s pretty spot on most of the time.
The mittbot’s ‘success’ worshiping piece came from josh. Anyway, I was at tpm for Sargent only during primaries and left that place along with him. Never cared for josh’s two line snarky ‘pieces’ even then. YMMV.
Thank you, dear Lord, for returning our President safely to our shores! Bye everyone, there is work to be done!
Thank goodness he is back safe.
The President is looking good. I hope he got enough sleep on the long flight home.
I look at that top picture, and all I can think of is that Chips now has another option to display when a TOD’er has a birthday.
Hooray for expanding Chips’ clipart options!
Ha, excellent thought AJ!
That Happy Birthday photo is for everyone who had a birthday last week, this week and next week. So I’m claiming my share of it. Besides, it looks like crumb cake and I love that. Woo!
I’m claiming my share, too!
I like the second one best – blowing off steam with total disrespect of the fact that Pete Souza is around showing it to the world
Everyone has got to read this excerpt about PBO from an upcoming book. The underlying prevailing thought is Pres. Obama in his 20s put a lot of his contemporaries to shame. When I say he was and is a gifted writer and thinker, I mean HE IS A GIFTED WRITER AND THINKER. Holy smokes! His conflicted identity, his appreciation of people from all walks of life and culture, the realization by older people at what a wise person he was for one so young, his depth. Such depth.
He makes me feel as though I’m in a philosophy or humanities class. He is a thinker. He thought and he thought and he thought. Then he wrote. And thought and thought and thought and thought. Then he wrote and thought again. Woah.
http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/2012/06/young-barack-obama-in-love-david-maraniss
I thought the same thing…..deep thinker…..I can’t even remember what I was thinking in my early 20′s but I know that it wasn’t that deep and complex.
He’s very special.
I can see that Jodi Kantor commented on the book already….*roll eyes*.
And here from Ezra Klein @ezraklein
”Worst thing about being president: Silly, pretentious letters you wrote in college get published in national magazine”
Silly and pretentious letters??
Okkkkkk
Jealous much, Mr Klein?
And Ezra Klein now knows what it’s like being president. Klein is eaten up with jealousy that while PBO was a brilliant thinker in his 20′s, Ezra spent those years picking at his navel. Remember the Harvard professor who said PBO displayed an incandescent intelligence.
Ezra Klein was good about explaining the health care bill, since then he has shown himself to be an idiot. He tries to present himself as an expert on everything POTUS does and sounds foolish. I have no doubt he is jealous of PBO’s brilliance. That is why PBO is the President, and Ezra Klein will never have that honor.
Ezra Klein is as irritating as a mosquito, and, I also suspect, another who is so envious of PBO that it clouds his judgment. And Klein doesn’t want anyone intruding on his overinflated perception of self as the deepest of deep thinkers.
I was utterly fascinated by this excerpt, intrigued by all things Obama. I think I’ve read everything written about and by him, but there were new details here about his early years. I will say that Barack Obama is one interesting person, so multi-faceted, so intelligent, the most unique of human beings. The book reveals more of his journey, how he got from there to here. I’m sure that some of this, which so absorbed him at the time, seems unimportant now, just as happens to all of us. I was thinking back to that time in my life —-thought I was an inspiring poet at one time in college and would sit in the park and write deep thoughts—-and when I re-read a few years ago—–not so scintillating. And wow—-I hope no one ever dives into my post college years in Chicago, newly arrived from a sheltered Iowa, naive (really!) and how that all played out. Thankfully, I did not keep a journal, do not remember names and I am not famous so no one cares. Best left to the ages.
This just confirmed for me that we have a very special person as our president, someone to be savored. There has never been another like him, and I don’t believe there ever will be again.
Truth.
If anyone knows silly and pretentious, its Ezra Klein.
Exactly. Those words describe him perfectly. I would also add insufferable know-it-all.
utaustinliberal, so glad you brought that link to the new thread. I was so absorbed in reading it that when I finally posted I was talking to myself! Anyway, there is also a related link that is a Q and A with the author about how he chose the book, its scope and research methods.
My takeaway: our president is a rarity; he has taken philosophy, REALLY analyzed all the important precepts/questions then integrated them into a living, personal philosophy of being and ACTION. PBO, strikes me ass being as close to a self actualized person as is humanly possible.
I read it and I always knew that the President had a way with words but WOW! the man can write. He doesn’t need a writer to write his speeches at all. If he had the time he could do them himself.
I understand he goes over them and write corrections in the margin.
Is there anything this man cannot do? He comes from smart people on both sides. I am reading his sister’s book and she is just as smart as he is.
We are so blessed to have this man in the White House. He got there all on his own. No silver spoon in his mouth, no cadillacs in his elevator garage; just by being his brilliant caring self.
ut, I got the same impression about the young BO when I read the book “The Bridge”. I recommend it to anyone who has not read it. I remember reading a couple of his letters he had written while in college. I thought whoa. He was off the hook. The man was and is brilliant.
The pictures are nice. They also reinforce how skinny PBO is. Still looks like a GQ model though.
I’m so happy the President is home.
You guys have to read the link I posted on the last thread. Wow. PBO’s mental capacity is infinite.
http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/2012/06/young-barack-obama-in-love-david-maraniss
Thanks for that link, collegekay. Some of the comments are worth reading too. (Bottom of last thread). meta and others wrote wonderful responses.
Interesting. I was so engrossed in reading I forgot to eat my lunch. Too bad we have to wait for the mag for the entire article. One thing I have gathered from that reading is that, while PBO was very much into philosophizing, it took meeting a down-to-earth Michelle Obama, to let him know that, though she thought him to be very smart, she would tell him at times……”people don’t care about all that…..”, when he would get wordy. She has helped him find his operating center. Good on him, good on her.
I think we all would have benefited from having “a Michelle Obama” in our lives early on, as we were forming our own thought processes at a young age. I still need that “people don’t care about all that” nudge! Ask my son who normally just says, calmly, now, “You’re thinking too deeply about that, Mom.”
Congratulations GGail on being first.
Good morning everyone. I have to put my hand over my mouth to keep from sceaming. Damnnnnnn, our President looks louscious. That is one of my favorite pics.
WOW! WOW! look at that stripe shirt and tie. My my my!
Ahem …
You’re killing me this morning Chips. Those pictures can do something to a woman.
What gets me is how he could take a virtually overnight trip to Afghanistan, give two brilliant speeches, fly back through a couple of time zones and then emerge from his plane looking so fresh and energetic. They would have been scooping me up from the tarmac if I had tried this.
Spring. In. Step.
wtf happened to ‘bipartisanship’ ? I condemn this monopolistic attitude of the blog lady.
Hahahaha – amk. Green is not your best color
(Deep, deep sigh)
DAMN
I love this picture…..he is also taking a big sigh of relief that he is home….
As are we!
President Obama, that’s exactly how I feel, a sigh of relief that you are back home. I was not fun of that trip.
I loved this LOD piece with Alec Baldwin.
Mornin’! Alec was masterful on that show. I even tweeted him last night to thank him for supporting PBO on behalf of all of us. Hope he becomes a regular “out there.” I’m not sure I’ve ever seen him do one of the pundit shows before.
He sounded very professional in his statements (like saying let’s not knock the NY FF in the process, unlike the lady who was getting carried away) and I loved the excellent way he pointed out how the word ‘peace’ was missing in all of the gazillion repub ‘debates’.
Agree, and that was a quick save of the NY FF reference. I’m not sure I’ve heard anyone but Alec in quite that way mention the fact the Rs never specifically use the word ‘peace.’ That was fine tuned to perfection. He showed how we can really use the ‘celebrity’ factor to our advantage in this campaign, in support of that big (cute) guy in the White House.
That ‘peace’ piece was a very perceptive observation. I’ve never seen AB on teevee (except on 30 Rock) till today and he totally rocked it without the ‘star power’. Very smart guy.
One more quick one – and he inserted the peace piece in such a mature and thoughtful way, no one could pick it apart. Loved it.
I was “severely” (heh) impressed with the way Alec Baldwin conducted himself. He made excellent points and articulated them well. I’d love to see him go into politics.
+1.
I like Alec. He has always been a strong supporter of PBO.
Yes Alec was great! also RM she was very very good just excellent check out the vidio!!!!
Me, too. Didn’t realize he’s been so intimate with the political scene in NY and beyond. I’m glad.
I think his name his being mentioned as our next mayor. But I also think he has a temper and he also will tell people exactly how he feels about them. Bloomingberg (sorry, wrong spelling intentional) cannot buy another term. I think he should go for it.
he was hilarious last night, and I mean that in a serious way. totally delightful

The consequences of the GOP’s voting restrictions
By Steve Benen
http://maddowblog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/05/02/11502524-the-consequences-of-the-gops-voting-restrictions?lite
The League of Women Voters has brought a lawsuit against the state of Pennsylvania in behalf of people like the 93 year old woman mentioned in Steve Benen’s article. This in addition to the lawsuit filed by the PA state senators and representatives. Tonight I’m going to a talk by someone from the ACLU on the lawsuit they’re filing. Please everyone pray and send positive thoughts to these lawsuits so that we can at least get a “stay” on this hideous PA law. We’re still pressing on, registering voters and getting them to the DMV for the IDs, but a stay would truly be a godsend.
The ACLU is joined in this effort by the NAACP, as well. The more, the greater potential for a stay. This is absolutely rididculous and oh so transparently racist and partisan. I missed an event last Saturday, no transportation yet. I am trying to persuade OFA to open a local office in my neck of Delaware County, like it had in ’08. Wish me luck.
According to our regional OFA director, offices will be opening everywhere in the coming weeks. So hang on.
The can’t stand it, BWD. To accept that PBO is not only smarter than they are, but also smarter than most of the people on the planet, upsets their racist little world view so much, that they have to minimize his talents. They are truly pathetic, except they’re also sickening.
blackwaterdog, are you referring to the excerpts of PBO’s youthful letter excerpts from “Vanity Fair”? I, for one, was completely in awe at how he not only thought about philosophical/moral issues but how after deep thought and introspection, constructed a cohesive world view that served for a touchstone, a core, with how he makes decisions and acts in the real world.
My point is he didn’t stop at surface, intellectual pontificating. The man is truly special
Obama’s letters are alright, I guess, but they can’t hold a candle to George W. Bush’s take on “The Waste-Land.”
Indeed he is special. He wrote like an older adult, not someone just graduating from college and trying to find his way.
Good morning all.
Just getting into the office, but I have to check TOD first to catch up on all that my President has done.
Badass Photos From Barack Obama’s Surprise Trip To Afghanistan
President Obama made an unannounced, at-one-point-denied visit to Afghanistan yesterday to sign a “strategic partnership” with the Afghan government to begin the drawdown of U.S. troops.
On the anniversary of the death of Osama bin Laden’s death, President Obama told U.S. troops there was ” a light on the horizon because of the sacrifices you’ve made.”
The agreement is designed to send a message to the region that the U.S. is not abandoning the country even as it sharply reduces its footprint there, ABC’s Jake Tapper reported.
White House photographer Pete Souza was on hand to capture the visit along the way — and as usual his photos do not disappoint.

Very nice. Thanks!
Thanks Dudette!
These photos are amazing.
I love the photo that says POTUS made three trips around the rope to try to shake every hand.
Oh My – what a man President Obama is!
Loving his Burberry coat
It’s 2am in my world – I’m so glad your President is home safe – amazing photos from Pete Souza – what a unique role to be with the President to record all these events.
I hope Pete’s around for part two, if he’s not totally exhausted!
especially since young barack was apparently quite good at ahhh, ahem, “satisfying” the ladies. all kinds of envy going on with barack’s ankle-biters.
BOOM!
Ooh, BWD, that was a good one. RT’d it.
Oh, that is going to leave a scar!! BWD is the magic!!
BWD FTW!!!!!!
Perfection, BWD!
BWD, if you do mine me asking, how did you post your tweet with Ezra on TOD?
Best. Response. Ever.
When I was 23, I hoped to do all things for Indonesia (being a Dutch national very much ashamed of what the Netherlands did to that country) that the President’s mother already accomplished.
Take him down, ut!
Please, uta, as a favor to this nontweeter, tweet: Ezra, those “silly pretentious college letters” were the precursor to a person with a solid moral and intellectual core. You are “silly and pretentious” for writing about them.
Done. I had to reframe it a bit as twitter only allows for 140 character limit.
Thanks, uta: you rock my world!
Silly pretentious huh? Did he read the excerpt? I bet you my last dime he didn’t. If he did he couldn’t understand a thing he read anyway. I know even the waste material that he flushes away is green. Envy is making these fools go crazy!
I am so excited by that caption on the last photo : In two weeks he gets to go home (to Chicago-I love Chicago) for the NATO Summit! That will be awesome!
4 alarm fire here in Atlanta at Tyler Perry Studios.
Quite a mess.
http://www.myfoxatlanta.com/dpp/news/local_news/Crews-Battle-4-Alarm-Fire-at-Tyler-Perry-Studios
I do not know much about this fire, but it seems suspicious to me. PBO recently had a fundraiser there.
I don’t even want to hear Friday’s jobs report.
it’ll probably show what, 27 or 28 straight months of private sector job growth. and as PBO said in the recent speech where he dismantled “trickle down economics,” the unemployment rate would be approx 6% right if not for all the t-bagging governors slashing government jobs around the country. progress is good.
Oh, we would have been out of the woods by now, if not these traitors, but you know that this is not how the story will be told by the media. And people don’t care, they always blame the president. In short, we’re for a very tough fight.
The story of his emotional and cultural journey reminds me of several children of missionaries I’ve known after they returned to the U.S. They lived all their lives in some far distant place, children of American parents, but not truly Americans themselves. When they return here with their parents, their parents settle in to familiarity, not so the children. Many of them go totally off the rails, my heart goes out to them. ALL of them have to deal with re-entry culture shock, sometimes for years. A number of them satisfy these not- knowing- where- I- belong feelings by entering the U.S. foreign service, or working for international corporations, or becoming missionaries themselves. They truly are never comfortable here.
He is amazing, in that he thought about it, worked through it, and made his decision where to belong, and does belong. However, for many totally untraveled, old white Americans, he will never belong, he will always be the other, because they cannot in any way imagine his background.
Younger people don’t have a problem with this. They travel, pick up and go to other countries, other areas to live, and admire this kind of cosmopolitan background. The students at our university are encouraged to participate in foreign travel and study. It is a big emphasis with us, and most of them do have some kind of “other” experience before they graduate. For some, it is leaving the little Oklahoma home for social service in Chicago, or L.A……but wherever they go, their eyes are opened and their lives are never the same. This is the generation who truly gets Pres. Obama.
What a beautiful comment, carolyn…and so spot on! I tell my younger relatives and friends to get a passport just in case. There is no better education than travel, with the caveat that one is open to new experiences and care enough to assimilate them.
carolyn, I’d love to see your comment showcased by our beloved Chipsticks; I think it would inspire a great discussion.
Wonderful comment. I have also noticed that because of social media – Twitter – Facebook, etc. young people “friend” people all around the world. They learn about different cultures from their friends. These kids may never go to these other countries, but they are exposed to them none the less. As an example, early on my son had a white South African and an Asian roommate. He really doesn’t care what your ethnic background is as long as he likes you.
Chad Nance, a Winston-Salem freelance journalist who is currently active in electoral campaigning, says poll workers outside the early voting site at the Forsyth County Government Center in downtown Winston-Salem reported to him that the wife of NC Sen. Peter Brunstetter remarked today that her husband sponsored legislation to put the marriage amendment on the primary ballot “to protect the Caucasian race.”
Nance said he recorded a conversation with the woman, whose name is Jodie Brunstetter, on video, and that she confirmed that she used the term “Caucasian” in a discussion about the marriage amendment, but insisted that otherwise her comments had been taken out of context by other poll workers.
Nance until recently served as campaign manager for Matt Newton, a Democratic candidate for the 12th Congressional District. Nance announced on Facebook today that he was resigning from the campaign because of Nance’s reaction to his plans to publicize Jodie Brunstetter’s alleged remarks. The Newton campaign has not responded to an e-mail request for comment about the resignation.
http://yesweeklyblog.blogspot.com/2012/05/racialized-remark-about-marriage.html
They are all terrified of the browning of America…..
Yes, all non-racists walk around using the word “Caucasian” in their speech. Got it. Yesterday, I went to the grocery store and asked for some Caucasian Bread. Right. Nothing eye-opening there, Jodie Brunstetter, whoever you are.
OMG, this is BRILLIANT!!
Check out this photo!!
Brilliant! All the clever people are on “our side” !!!! Ha!
Yes and you are one of them, JO’B!!
Right back atcha, ms. meta!
OMG, can you imagine if this “Swiss Mitt” REALLY catches on?! Bigger and bigger crowds waving their Swiss flags? Excellent, just excellent!
I love this “Swiss-Mitt.” I hope it continues.
This from Sully:
Another writes:
I just read your post and decided that was the last straw. I am a gay Republican supporting Mitt until today.
I just sent his campaign an email requesting they remove my name from their call list because of Ric Grenell’s resignation. I will not contribute nor will I vote for a candidate that allows this type of witch hunt to happen in his campaign. This was a moment when a good person stands up and says enough but Mitt decided he could not be that person.
Up until this point, I have not really bought into your Christianist rhetoric and the take over of the Republican party… forgive me, I am late to the game. But because I live in North Carolina and because my partner is about to have our first child, I face my own moment.
http://andrewsullivan.thedailybeast.com/2012/05/gop-no-gays-allowed-ctd-1.html
Ho hum. Still confused she is. She’s still a Republican.
bitchslapped by reality
Couldn’t have said it better. It took this moment to wake her the hell up? After all they’ve done in the past to demonize the LGBT community? After GWB in 04 basically ran a campaign excoriating the LGBT community? After the horrendous anti-women and anti-LGBT policies of the last year? This is what woke her the hell up? Better late than never I guess.
So this is a gay woman who is a Republican and supported Romney? Wow, it’s about time.
I really don’t understand gay Republicans. How can you identify with a party that sees you as sub-human?
The height of cognitive dissonance. Very strange.
I understand being a “gay conservative”, depending on how you define conservatism. But being gay in a party whose base would probably feel comfortable making you wear a pink triangle is mind-boggling.
The ‘gay conservative’ cares about his/her taxes and doesn’t care about anyone else. That’s what defines them
“Wearing a pink triangle”
You’re too kind.
In the late ’90s I contemplated completing a trifecta on my bicycle trips coast to coast in the US, by riding from Jacksonville, Florida, to Jackson, California.
I was warned, by my acquaintances from the US, that that trip would take me through Texas, whose inhabitants wouldn’t look kindly to a single man on a bicycle.
I heeded their calls – and I am a heterosexual, white male.
In Texas you gotta have a pick-up truck with a gun rack in the rear window if you’re a real man.
What’s with all these self-hating gay republicans? Why are they always so shocked and hurt when the anti-gay GOP does anti-gay things?
EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!
I have never been able to figure out how any gay person can be a Republican. It is simply beyond my comprehension. Then suddenly they get these “light bulb moments” when this stuff has been staring them in the face all along. Geesh!!!
Ha! Exactly!!!
I don’t know, either. Maybe it’s family political legacy or something.
Hey, let’s not forget…..AA’s, Latinos, Native Americans, liberal-minded women,…….party trumps common sense?
Romney: Still Good at Firing, Bad at Being Human
By Charles P. Pierce
————————————–
First of all, it’s hard to know who is more pathetic here, the Romney campaign for its unique capacity to be both ruthless and feckless, or the fact that there still are gay people who are amazed when a Republican politician — particularly a Republican politician whom the Christianists already believe is part of a cult — suddenly bows to the whims of the Bible-bangers and sells a gay person out. I mean, not that Grenell was any bargain; reporters covering the United Nations have been quite openly saying that, in his days working for Bolton, Grenell was notable for his ability to deal in barefaced non-facts, and his Twitter account was a farrago of slander and half-baked wingnut nonsense. (Matt Bai a liberal?) But the Romney people decided on a cynicism double-back-flip-with-a-twist, allying themselves with the notably-wrong-about-everything wingnut foreign policy community and reassuring gay people and credulous reporters that Romney is really “moving back toward the middle” — and failed to stick the landing. As the candidate once said, he does love firing people. And he’s good at it.

Get your head out of the sand! Late to the game indeed. Unbelievable!
108 charged with Medicare fraud, half a billion in bogus claims. Glad they’re going after these fraudsters, can’t believe the extent of it.
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/la-na-nn-medicare-fraud-20120502,0,4373602.story
Have u guys read the Vanity Fair piece? It’s amazing. Can you believe he wrote like that at TWENTY-TWO???? Dang!
I know, right. I didn’t understand half of it. He’s one of the great intellects in history. There’s nothing he can’t do and it’s been that way his entire life. And I love that it pisses off all the right people.
May sound corny, but I am holding off reading it until I get home. I have a feeling it will have quite an effect on me….
It will. And buy and read his sister’s book, The young man was way ahead of his time.
Thanks for the rec, miss pat.
Excellent. Though it’s a ding on dems too in a way.
Not really. The Dems don’t control the calendar. And when Nancy was in charge, she made them WORK. So much so that the GOP constantly whined about not getting enough breaks.
Yes, we do get that but not the most of the stupid amurikans.
I wonder how long it took Ezra to come up with his bit of snark. The jealousy is palpable.
True. “Somebody” needs to come up with a “Snark Klein.”
I would also love to see a Snark Chuck Todd, dressed as a pimp
Oh, Linda, my ribs hurt from laughing now. Oh my. Please, somebody, get that image out of my mind.
Chuck Toad. The avatar could be a bullfrog sitting on Mitt Romney’s lap.
Or sticking its tongue in Eric Cantor ear….like at the WHCD Saturday night….I bet he was rubbing his leg under the table.
With a chain around its neck, if toads have necks.
and a clock like Flava Flave.
so tweeted itgurl.
The more clips I see of Brian Williams interview with PBO and other Sit Room subjects on the bin Laden raid which airs tonight, the more I think it is truly going to be a very interesting hour. With Andrea Mitchell just now, as they discussed how the planning was so “closely held”, no spouses or high level WH personnel were told, Williams said Obama told him that they had to edit a bin Laden joke out of his WHCD presentation because the speech writers did not know what was unfolding, that PBO said he really had to put on his acting face that night as his mind was elsewhere.
I’ve already set my DVR. Can’t wait!
*his mind was elsewhere*
Yes, everywhere else the rest of us don’t even know exists. The man is AMAZING. I blame his mother. Ha!
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — A Republican Missouri House member has publicly announced he’s gay and is calling on GOP leaders to end legislation that would limit discussion of sexual orientation in public schools.
Rep. Zachary Wyatt held a Capitol news conference Wednesday at which he said he was disclosing his sexual orientation for the first time. Wyatt and several other lawmakers denounced a bill that would prohibit teaching, extracurricular activities or materials that discuss sexual orientation unless they relate to the scientific facts about human reproduction.
—-
If this trend of coming out – one by one – continues, maybe the numbers would grow and Republicans would learn to accept and love their fellow man or woman a little more, no matter their sexual orientation, and quit seeking to hurt them. Does anybody have a bridge they’d like to sell me?
I’ll talk to that tundra twit and get back to you on that. Also.Too.
Oh, you can talk to tundra twit, amk, but no need to get back to me on that. Don’t make me sorry I brought it up.
You betcha. Freedom.
Sure. But the deck and rails need repair because of excessive dry rot.
Hey, amk, smooth-talkin’ bridge salesman here, if you want to mention to tundra twit. Looks like he can spout just the talking points to get some of them there Recovery Act funds, which she’d be so good at securing, if she weren’t a quitter. Then both of you can keep me out of it!
Freedom. Lamestream Media. Obama’s fault.
photo/1
LOL.
This is probably what she makes Newt wear to bed #soshecanstandbeingthere.
OK, Sully is on FIRE about Grenell’s “resignation”. Good reading.
And, my new piece is up on TPV: http://www.thepeoplesview.net/2012/05/how-dare-you-attack-us.html. Take a look if you can.
Honestly, I don’t want anyone to be discriminated against, but Grenell was his own sort of bigot. IMO the only think that’s key is Romney’s silence on the resignation.
Fully understand what you’re saying. But Grenell will just be replaced by another bigot. The thing is that this new person’s bigotry won’t be an issue in the way it was for Grenell, because this new person won’t be gay. If Grenell had been a strapping heterosexual male, he’d still have a job.
Agreed. Its just that Grenell is sucking the oxygen out of the air.
The good thing is that it’s another self-inflicted wound by the Romney camp. If he can’t stand up to the religious nuts, how can he stand up to China, etc. And the fact that it happened while PBO was in Afghanistan is just icing on the cake.
”The Swift Boating of Obama Has Begun”
http://www.theatlanticwire.com/politics/2012/05/swift-boating-obama-has-begun/51811/
The ad is disgusting of course, especially coming from these hypocrites…..it worked with John Kerry but it won’t work this time, no way.
But there’s a little gem in the ad
Arianna Huffington ”despicable comment”
She must be so proud! I’m going to send her a tweet to congratulate her….
Obama 100000>>>>> Kerry
I think my new piece on TPV addresses the faults in the GOP game plan. *smug smile*
Will check it out. Thanks for the headsup.
PO cannot be swift boated.
Looks like even ras can’t cook up the polls like they used to do last cycle.
Californians have joined Nevadans working their butts off to make this happen. So great to see the tide actually turning!!
Excellent. All the blue states should work their butt off in the nearby red/purple states to flip them.
My State of MD is working their hearts out for Virginia and PA. So far so good. The latest poll has PBO leading in Va by 8 points as well and folks in Va are Fired Up for this rally this weekend. I wish I could be there
That’s excellent news donna. We need to shrink and choke the red states to death. Politically speaking of course.
Mitt Romney In Virginia: I’ll Do ‘The Opposite’ Of What Obama Has Done For Economy .
—
Good Plan Mitt…..you just told America you want to take us back to a recession/depression…
This guy is frieghtening
Romney can’t help himself. He has be opposite of whatever the President is for or else he’ll be crucify by the right. A lot of them don’t trust him.
I like to leave afew comments for the Republicans when I visit other sites, I tell them that you guys know Mitt Romney isn’t worth sh*t. It was you Republicans who beg for anyone else to run, Christie, Daniels, Bush. Only after the flip flooping liar has been stuff down your throats, you want to sing his praises.
KNEE JERK OPPOSITION TO PRESIDENT OBAMA BITES ROMNEY IN ARSE (AGAIN)
Romney vows to do ‘the opposite’
By Steve Benen
————————————-
Four years ago, the economy is shrinking; now it’s growing. Four years ago, the economy was hemorrhaging jobs; now it’s gaining jobs. Four years ago, the unemployment rate was going up; now it’s going down. Four years ago, the stock market was crashing; now it’s reaching new heights. Four years ago, the deficit was getting bigger; now it’s getting smaller. Four years ago, the American auto industry was on the verge of collapse; now it’s thriving.
Is Romney sure he wants to look at the Obama administration’s policies and do the opposite?
In this case, the opposite would, as a practical matter, mean European-style austerity measures, taking capital out of the economy, dramatically scaling back public investments, and prioritizing debt reduction over growth.

Zombey is a lazy ol fart. He doesn’t even know what PBO has done but he says he’ll do the opposite..thinking it will please the brainwashed. Willard the Dullard with a smug look on his pasty face.
Hello TOD family…my 99 year old grandmother fell and fractured her hip two months ago. She had surgery to stabilize the hip. She is home now (almost two weeks) after one week in the hospital and six weeks in rehab. She is doing well…she went to church this past Sunday! I am her only living (immediate) family. I have not slept at home in my bed since Mar 1st (sleeping in a chair at the hospital and rehab…in my granny’s recliner). I haven’t had much time to do anything else besides making sure she was being cared for properly and maintaining my business. This is my first time posting a comment, although I did check in most days for a few minutes.
You all may already know this, but President Obama’s sister has a new book, AND THEN LIFE HAPPENS. Auma Obama has written an excellent book, it is a must read. Her picture is on the book cover…she is gorgeous!!
Good to be back…
Puddin, your gran is blessed to have you in her life. I pray that her recovery continues well and that you are given the strength to remain attentive to her needs. God Bless you sweetie!
Best wishes to your Grandma. And to you I give eyou lots of praise. You will be blessed. I am reading the book and it is good. And yes she is gorgeous, inside and out. Just like her brother. And smart too!
Ditto. God bless you and give you the strength and wisdom needed.
btw, stewart’s last night piece of rethugs faux poutrgae was spot on. He killed gillespie wtih his own words.
I saw that this morning. Although I cannot stand him and really don’t think he is funny this piece was totally on point.
Agree. Just saw it @ BJ. He is mostly misses than hits at this point, but this was spot on.
She nails it!
I love this line at the end, “What’s next? Maybe, as the folks at The Final Edition suggested — if the economy keeps rebounding, Romney will simply claim he’s been president all along.”
And 23%ers will fall for it.
Ok, so I read the Swiftboating of Obama article from the Atlantic Wire, and
I don’t know if it’s gonna work this time though.
1) Bin Laden is dead. Obama gave the order. The SEALS followed the order.
2) whether or not you think the admin as been “politicizing” the killing. I dont’ recall Obama saying “I got Bin Laden” he always makes it a point to say he “authorized” a mission for the SEALS to take him out.
3)anyone who remembers know what happened to Kerry in 2004, hell it’s why we call this type of ad “swiftboating”. The ad worked (or not or whatever) because first it was the first of it’s kind to get mainstream airplay and Kerry ’04 was way different than Obama ’12. People have an idea what one means when we say a politician has been “swiftboated”. It’s only gonna rile up Obama supporters and after Kerry, it will prob disgust independents, IMHO. This ads does nothing but give anti-Obama people another viral video to watch and rant off too.
Anyone else think this ad will amount to a hill of beans outside the beltway?
Short answer: No. Sen. Kerry was unknown outside the Beltway. And, as I make clear in my latest post on TPV, PBO isn’t playing by the same rules. He’s not playing the game on the GOP’s terms. In other words, Kerry reacted like the typical Dem of the past 40 years; PBO is not.
One reason I love teaching my college freshmen so much, is that they come from so many cultures and ethnic groups. This is at a small, religious college in the middle of Oklahoma, but I have a regular United Nations in one class. In addition to the Americans…..of all colors….there is a young man from Haiti, and one from Saudi Arabia. They are all beautiful. Their stories are poignant. The young Haitian man just wrote his personal experience paper over his trip to the other side of his island, the Dominican Republic, and how that trip knocked down his prejudices about the country and its people. This just emphasizes what I said earlier in the thread.
Early in the semester I asked my young Saudi man if he was related to the royal family, he laughed and said “Everybody is!” Then, he sobered and said, “Yes, I am.” I call him my Saudi prince. He is so mannerly and elegant. When I see him I think of the story of the Queen of Sheba, and how he would have been a wonderful consort for her. I have two whose first language is Spanish, several young AA men, and one beautiful AA girl. Only two are traditional (for this college) Caucasian young people. Raven and I are the only females in the class. Their stories are powerful, and they work hard.
I just graded their last papers and realized I am going to miss them, so just had to write about them. This generation is great.
Lovely story carolyn. When I was doing masters in 83-85 in Brooklyn, I had a eclectic bunch of classmates. Enjoyed those 2 years despite my disappointment with mondale fuck-up.

He’s back! Can’t wait till the OFA team turns on the campaign cookers full blast. Mittens has no idea the organization machinery he’s up against. Messina, Ploufe and Axelrod will show the world how it’s done. Can’t wait!
