Morning everyone, will be back in a while
Good Morning chips. First?
Chips, where are you? I am waiting for my fix this morning.
Morning Roberta! Sorry for taking so long to post your pic, had to rush away!
HEY ! Alooo..
Sigh… watch…time… hint, hint. nudge,nudge. wink, wink….
Dammit. Me. Also. Too.
OOH MY!!! Thank you Chips, you just made my day. I can now go clan a house and have him in my mind while I do the hard work, just like our President. I love that man and have since the first time I saw him in the senate. Hubba Hubba, I will take him anyday. Just wished the
RW had an open mind as to what his policies are doing for them. God Bless you Chips and the rest of the TOD Family.
Have a good day, I will check back in when I get home.
Good morning everyone and congratulations to Roberta in MN on being first.
Thank you. Love it.
Good Morning. New OFA ad featuring our friend Leroy.
GOOD RIDDENS TO THE ‘NEWTSTER’…ACTUALLY I FORGOT HE WAS STILL HERE!
That is one fantastic ad. Wow. They’re hitting Romney from all sides.

The media’s feeding frenzy on Obama’s Afghan trip. Horrible vultures.
Why is that cbs woman so outraged that noot called mitt a liar ? Who is she?
Norah O Donell…she was originally with NBC. In politics liar is one of those four letter naughty words. You are suppose to say “he’s not telling the truth” or some other euphemism…but never the word.
what. noot. told. true. good.
Just wanted to say something about the validity of the cartoon. My avatar is from a parade we organized for the 2008 election in Florida. We had the police block off the right lane on US 1 so we could march to Hollywood Circle for grass roots speeches. We had about 500 people march. We got to the circle and there were two vets that were McCain supporters. They were older men who are now retired. The sign they were holding was ” 9/11 Never Forget” it actually was trade marked by the GOP. It had a small “tm” on the upper right hand side of the sign. Why they brag that 3000 were killed on that day amazes me. I guess they really want to be know as the party that ignored signs that this may happen.

I hope for decent jobs report Friday!
Should be better than last month, and previous month revised up!
Brian Williams is really promoting his Rock Center program tonight with PBO in the Situation Room re. the bin Laden raid. He said he couldn’t be prouder of this hour, that it was the epitome of his career. (Joe Scarborough looked sad and mad about it)
I know, right?
Joe is such a cry baby
Moreover he is a fake.
Joe is mourning cause PBO got bin laden…oh why oh why couldn’t he be more like stupid bush and the exponentially stupid zombey..and just let it go? Sucking thumb and going wah wah wah wah wah, suck, suck, suck, suck.
Fantastic. I hope the interview is good.
Good for Brian. As much as the gop has been complaining about PBO “politicizing” the death of OBL, it is news and the media can’t just ignore it.
PITTSBURGH — Today, the Energy Department joined with partners from Canada and Mexico to release the first-ever atlas mapping the potential carbon dioxide storage capacity in North America. According to the newly released North American Carbon Storage Atlas (NACSA), there is at least 500 years of geologic storage for carbon dioxide emissions in North America. These areas could be used for storing carbon from industrial sources or power plants. Identifying and deploying ways to cleanly, safely and sustainably develop America’s fossil fuel resources, including coal, is an important part of President Obama’s all-of-the-above energy strategy.
“By identifying North American geological formations with large carbon dioxide storage potential, this new atlas provides the kind of fundamental information that, combined with technology innovation, can help fossil-fueled facilities continue their essential energy role while reducing carbon pollution,” said Energy Secretary Steven Chu. “This initiative can also help identify opportunities for enhanced oil recovery projects that can further increase domestic oil production, enhance American energy security and support economic growth in states across the country.”
And this means Jobs!
Jobs! Uh-oh, better filibuster that idea.
LONDON (Reuters) – Gold prices retreated towards $1,650 an ounce on Wednesday as the dollar strengthened against the euro, after a downbeat reading of euro zone manufacturing activity contrasted with stronger data from the United States.
Speculation the Federal Reserve is set to unleash another wave of monetary easing faded, adding further pressure to gold, after comments from several Fed officials reinforced the notion they are happy to stand pat on policy.
Great news, Jovie.
Morning all. GOP is in perpetual agnst. The PBO derangement syndrome is in full effect. It is like a an uncontroable tick where even if they try to hide it, it comes out soon as they step in front of a microphone.
The election of PBO has exposed lots of people, left and right, who we ordinarily would never have known possess these hateful qualities. We know now. For me, personally, I will never look at many of them the same anymore. Big eye opener and something to never forget.
You know how Kentucky Wildcats won College Basketball Championship? Well, the President invited Mitch the Turtle over to Wh to honor the Wildcats victory, old Mitch turned him down.
Stay classy Mitch, stay classy!
GOOD RIDDENS TO THE ‘TURTLE’….OUR PBO IS SO GRACEFUL WITH HIS ENEMIES…I’D HAVE TO TOSS OUT THE CHAIR TURTLE SAT IN OR AT LEAST TAKE IT THROUGH THE CARWASH!
I read that yesterday. that’s extremely disrespectful.
CK, if these people only knew they weren’t hurting the president (I’m sure he has a good laugh about it with Michelle) they are hurting themselves. How can decent people look at McTurtle and Boehner with any respect and credibility after this rude, boorish behavior, I wouldn’t want to be in the same room with people of this level of classlessness. I’d tell them to go slop with the pigs.
The Tea Partiers are boorish and rude so I’m sure they enjoy this type of behavior. However, for the rest of Americans who are paying attention they surely think this behavior is disgraceful.
Remember when Speaker Boehner was a no show at the Tucson Memorial Event….
She sent Gabby a card….Never even made a follow up phone call…not once…
Then he cried like a baby when she came back to resign.
They are all frauds.
Some of their strategy is to twist it as saying that the President never has us over to wh!
Well, that is because they keep turning him down.
Rovian Politics, in every move they make!
Mitch McConnell doesn’t have a classy bone in his ugly freaking racists body.
What a disgusting creature McTurtle is. How can anyone this hateful live with himself.
People like McConnell don’t think anything is wrong with them. Have you ever seen a racists who think anything is wrong with them?
I believe all these Rethuglicans are sociopaths, that is why they can lie and cheat like they do and don’t see anything wrong with their behaviour.
Actualy mcturtleman did everyone a big fat FAVOR!! None of his toxic foul air to breathe..YAY!
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, in an interview with The Hill this week, said demands by the House GOP for deep cuts especially for food stamps now constitute the top obstacle for passage of a 2012 farm bill by September when current farm programs expire.
Vilsack offered some praise for the version of the farm bill that passed out of the Senate Agriculture Committee last week, even though it contains about $9 billion less in deficit reduction than President Obama had sought in his latest budget.
Morning everyone. What a wonderful day in politics yesterday with our president making that secret move. The video of Newt, in his own words, is priceless. Of course he will say that that’s not him talking. LOL. Thank God for our wonderful president and may He continue to bless and protect his every step.Love to all
LOVE THE PIC OF PBO BOARDING TO LEAVE THE SANDBOX…I ALWAYS SWEAT UNTIL HE TOUCHES HOME GROUND!
ARMOR TO HIS RIGHT, ARMOR TO HIS LEFT — It’s no accident that when the president addressed the nation from Afghanistan, he was flanked by two armored trucks, one of them draped in an American flag. Armored vehicles have become emblematic of the challenges the U.S. military has faced over the past decade — and of the uncertain road ahead.
The trucks — clearly visible on both sides of the president as he spoke — were Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles, or MRAPs. To Obama’s right was an all-terrain vehicle developed by Oshkosh Corp. and to his left was an International MaxxPro MRAP, according to two sources familiar with military trucks.
“The two vehicles are iconic, all-American vehicles representative of the military’s ability to adapt to an unconventional warfare environment,” John Adams-Graf, editor of Military Vehicles Magazine, told Morning Defense. Read our full story. http://politi.co/Ioyjux

Hey ut, how do you post a series of tweets in a single post here ? 2 linkys per post is not applicable for tweets?
Same way you post regular tweets. Instead of posting one tweet at a time, I just post three or four in one comment box. I never post more than 3 or 4 at a time so, it ends up showing on TOD. Saves time.
Gotcha. Will try it. Thanks.
2 tweet tidbits——Bill Burton is on Bill Press talking about the $990 t-shirt that Ms. Ann was wearing yesterday——–and Politico has an opinion piece re. rising gas prices helping Willard as gas prices, in reality, are dropping
I am not sure if it’s a good idea for the campaign to bring such non-issues like ms mehmney’s wardrobe. What exactly does it achieve ?
The Obama campaign did not agree with Bill Press about the t-shirt. Bill Burton said that they felt that family was offlimits. and Julie mason disagreed wit Burton. Therefore, the Obama campaign had nothing to do with this t-shirt issue.
Thank you COS. That’s what I expect from my campaign. I misread the post.
People like bill press should just stop giving grist to the rw media.
Bill Press is a wishy washy PBO supporter. I put him in the same catagory as KO & Cenk.
They’re both better than cenk imv. Press has his lucid moments and that book he wrote about the hatin’ in the President was a helpful expose.
OUR PRESIDENT EXEMPLIFIES GRACE AND INTEGRITY…THE CAMPAIGN MUST DO THE SAME!
Watch the media, the $990 dollar T-shirt controversy. Over and over and over we will hear about it from the media.
You’re right this is a non-issue. But, on-the-other-hand I am incredulous that someone would buy/wear a $990.00 tee shirt. That’s just about my mortgage payment. I guess hiding money in the Cayman Islands would leave a lot of extra money laying around for tee shirts.
Sme people can, and do, terim. Even $895.00 for a pair of slacks, and $2,200.00 for a coat. Not me, but I have seen it first hand. It boggles the mind…
We must be careful about this kind of talk, as Bill Burton cautioned. Remember the fuss about FLOTUS’ expensive tennis shoes? Though it’s her money, rethugs thought it their right to make it an issue—just because.
Who was that Julie Mason? Seriously, Bill, there was just so much her cynical, veiled PBO bashing I could stand before I changed the channel.
I missed that 57. Julie Mason is a vile piece of work, when she was at Politico she spent half her time writing nasty crap about Michelle Obama. Vicious cow.
Bill Press had her on FOREVER. I admit I turned on late, but she was there when Bill Burton was on and was still there after, so I don’t know how much time he gave her. This reminds me of Bill Press’ PUMA b.s. which I thought he had gotten over. We don’t need that on progressive media unless you’re going to viscerate them. I will tweet how I feel to Bill Press and to Current.
Good morning, TODville, and heads up!!
Because of especially strong tailwinds, PBO is expected to arrive at Andrews at 10:40 instead of 1:45. YAYAYAYAYAY!!!!
G’morning meta, Chips and everyone! It seems that Mother Nature loves this President.
Good morning, h2. I do believe you are correct!!
GOD LOVES OUR PBO…AND I HOPE HE GOT SOME ‘ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ’S’ IN FLIGHT!
I do, too, because he’s got two fundraisers tonight. I have a feeling he is energized.
Fascinating story from a reporter’s point of view about how the travel arrangements went down for Pres. Obama’s trip to Afghanistan.

oh, and btw, love your tweets!
Yes, thanks utaustin, can you imagine being on that trip, lucky reporters!

Today in Hyperbole: President Obama the Klan Punisher
By Kent Jones – Tue May 1, 2012 7:16 PM EDT.
The American Family Association’s Bryan Fischer has a new and typically innovative theory about the motivations of President Obama. To wit (with our own annotations):
“And I believe I understand now what Barack Obama is about.1 And it is intentional, it is not ineptitude on his part,2 it is intentional and his mission in life is to punish the United States for being a racist country.3 That’s what drives him, it’s what animates him, it’s what energizes every single thing he does4 to punish this country, to cut it down to size, to wound it, to hurt it, to damage it, to diminish it in order to punish the United States for being a racist country.5
To Barack Obama, the entire United States of America is one big, giant Ku Klux Klan6 and the Constitution, for Barack Obama, is the membership charter for this giant Ku Klux Klan7 … And I honestly believe8 that this is how Barack Obama sees the United States of America; one big, giant Ku Klux Klan meeting9 and it’s his job to punish the Ku Klux Klan, which is the United States of America in his worldview.”10
1 — i.e. I’ve spent weeks thinking up something even less reality-based than my previous crack-pottery.
2 — Not ineptitude? Bryan Fischer, I’m starting to question your commitment to this cause…
3 — A country so racist, that it would elect someone named Barack Hussein Obama to be its president. Possibly twice.
4 — Drives, animates, energizes—Roget’s Thesaurus salutes your use of active synonymous verbs, sir!
5 — Look at what he wears. Look at his family. Listen to how he speaks. Clearly Barack Obama is a rage-filled instrument of pure vengeance.
6 — This info will come as a HUGE surprise to the millions of non white male protestants who live in this country. Bit of a membership shocker for the Klan, too, I suspect.
7 — He must have learned that in one of those radical liberal civics madrassas used to indoctrinate Hawaiian kids.
8 — When people say, “I honestly believe” — they honestly don’t.
9 —Does he mean a big giant meeting of the Klan or a meeting of big giant Klansmen? Giant Klansmen—now there’s a Marvel comics villain. Avengers Assemble!
10 —And how does he punish the Klan? By passing health care and killing Osama bin Laden. BAM! Want some more? Huh? Huh….?
I have never heard of this f-er, but he is one stupid idiot. It is almost unimaginable someone could come up with this, and be foolish enough to publish it. will they never cease trying to make President Obama in their own image, to shrink him down to a level small enough for them to grasp?
FISCHER IS A DISGUSTING FOOL…AS FOR THE KKK…IT’S AN UNFORTUNATE REPUTATION THAT AMERICA HAS…RACISM IS DEEPLY EMBEDDED IN THIS COUNTRY…HOWEVER…GOD IS IN CONTROL…HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL…AND TRUTH,JUSTICE AND EQUALITY SHALL PREVAIL!
No wonder PBO is not for legalizing pot! This guy needs to stop smoking the weed because he’s brain is fried.

But, but, but Halperin told me…
Hope, what are your thoughts on the ADP report of 119,000 jobs created in April. Do you think it will be revised up?
ADP is always wrong. They overestimate (last time they predicted 216k and we got 120k) so I’m hoping they underestimated this time. :-/
The ADP number isn’t an estimate it’s an actual report of private sector job growth. Based on that number of 119,000 there will be an overall estimate up until we get the whole number(which includes government jobs) to be released on Friday. That number usually gets revised up/down the following month.
Why is their report always vastly different from the BLS in terms of the private sector?
Because they only call 70 large companies and small businesses, and then extrapolate!
I see. thanks
As usual you are a wealth of useful information. I didn’t know this. That’s ridiculous.
BLS regularly surveys approximately 400,000 establishments employing roughly 50 million workers. However, historically the BLS initial estimate of employment has been based on roughly 66% of this sample (or 268,000 establishments), the second estimate (one month later) has been based on roughly 82% of this sample (or 328,000), and the third estimate (two months later) has been based on roughly 89% of this sample (or 356,000). Hence the ADP National Employment Report is based on more payrolls than the BLS estimates are based on establishments. However, the average size of the establishments surveyed by the BLS is larger than the average size of the payrolls processed by ADP.
The ADP National Employment Report is unique in that it utilizes ADP’s exceptionally large, aggregated and anonymous sample of active payrolls from approximately 270,000 of ADP’s more than 500,000 U.S. business clients as compared to other forecasts and estimates that use surveys, job postings, and smaller payroll samples. The ADP National Employment Report is a credible monthly resource derived from actual payroll data, and provides insight into short-term movements in employment across various company sizes.
Thanks for that cookemom.
GOOOODDD getting up Morning to all my O’s!!!! Got up early this morning, got my run in, gonna do a little yard work before the thunderstorms move in. I saw the strangest thing on FOX this morning, before I got up. They had this tribute to the OBL killing going back to 9/11. There was this ominous theatrical music in the background and it actually dissed Bush and respected PBO (they probably didn’t mean to) . It was really eerire. Maybe, it was a dream.
Morning everyone:) Brought this over from late last night. You all should read and pass….Bob is going to Tweet the hell out of this….
let’s venture into the world of the health care debate. The consensus view is that existing Commerce Clause doctrine clearly authorizes the type of mandate passed in the act—see in particular the affirmance of the statute by ultraconservative Judge Silberman of the D.C. Circuit Court.
Nonetheless, those opposing the bill insist that an individual mandate has never been done and the framers would simply not permit such an encroachment on liberty and freedom.
Some spectacular historical reporting by Professor Einer Elhauge of Harvard Law School in the New Republic thoroughly rebut the argument. He has found three mandate equivalents passed into law by the early Congresses—in which a significant number of founders served—and reports that these bills were signed into law by none other than Presidents George Washington and John Adams. As Founders go, one might consider them pretty senior in the hierarchy. Their acts can probably be relied upon to give us a reasonable idea what the Founders intended to be the scope of congressional and governmental power.
Amazingly, the examples of individual mandates passed by the founders are so directly applicable that the claim that original intent precludes affirming the heath care act should become almost laughable:
Read the rest,,,and then read the article in tnr that the Professor wrote, clearly showing that individual mandates were INSISTED UPON, and USED, by the Founding Fathers….
Take that, Scalia, Thomas, Alito,….
Love this! “In 1790, the very first Congress—which incidentally included 20 framers—passed a law that included a mandate: namely, a requirement that ship owners buy medical insurance for their seamen. This law was then signed by another framer: President George Washington. That’s right, the father of our country had no difficulty imposing a health insurance mandate.
That’s not all…” Thanks for the link.

HOW TO MAKE MITT LOOK SMALL
After last night, Romney is probably done complaining about Obama’s “politicization” of bin Laden’s death
By Steve Kornacki
Obama used the speech to lay out his roadmap for the end of the war in Afghanistan. The official justification for his visit was that a Security Partnership Agreement with Hamid Karzai’s government had finally been hammered out and needed to be signed before a May 20 NATO summit in Chicago. It was also, in the White House’s telling, Obama desire to spend the bin Laden anniversary with American forces in Afghanistan.
His remarks had the immediate effect of making the dispute over his bin Laden ad seem petty and beside the point.
It was a dramatic, eloquent speech on an emotional day, witnessed live by tens of millions of Americans who are ready to put the war in the rearview mirror. Whatever political benefit Romney reaped from his appearance with Giuliani – and from the past few days of wailing by the GOP – evaporated on the spot. Romney seemed to recognize it, too.

Krugman can suck it!!!
What did he say now? Just when I thought he was starting to be sensible again.
Mitch McConnell & The Chamber of Commerce Tell The Supreme Court To Double Down On Citizens United
The Supreme Court is currently considering whether to hear a case that will enable it to correct its error in Citizens United and overrule its indefensible decision to allow unlimited corporate and other wealthy donor money to influence elections. Neither the corporate lobby nor the Senate’s top Republican are eager to see this occur, however. Both of them filed briefs in the Supreme Court yesterday urging the justices to not only reaffirm Citizens United, but to do so without even hearing argument in the case.
Neither one of these briefs are surprising. The Chamber is one of the nation’s biggest spenders on elections, and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has long been an opponent of campaign finance regulation. Before President Bush appointed Justice Alito, who became the fifth vote to tear down much of America’s checks on big money in politics, the seminal case upholding America’s ability to defend against such money was McConnell v. FEC. In that case Sen. McConnell was the lead plaintiff who sued — mostly unsuccessfully — to toss out the McCain/Feingold campaign finance law.
Yet while the briefs are unsurprising, they demonstrate both the corporate lobby and the Republican Party’s commitment to keeping wealthy interest groups’ ability to buy and sell elections intact.
THE FIGHT OBAMA PICKED
His use of the bin Laden anniversary seems like something Republicans would do – and that’s probably the point
Which is exactly the point. From the moment he took office, Obama’s Republican foes made clear their intent to treat him as the second coming of (their caricature of) Carter – a naïve, overly deferential global lightweight who’s too ashamed of America to stick up for it on the world stage. That Obama’s actual foreign and national security policies defy this caricature is of no consequence to them. Romney himself is among the worst offenders; he continues to claim that Obama “went around the world and apologized for America,” even though the president did no such thing.
This is the sort of attack that many Democrats believe their party has been poor at deflecting. In picking the bin Laden fight, Obama is partly defending himself against the Republicans’ caricaturing. But he’s also trying to turn the tables and put them on the defensive on an issue they think they own. This is what Democrats have for years been agitating for. And now we’ll get to see if it works.
Sad ain’t it ?

No, he didn’t! Did Mitt Romney’s adviser Eric Fehrnstrom really say that President Barack Obama did “exactly” what Romney advised on the auto industry?
OK, I admit that I have a particular animus toward a guy that knifed us in the back when Michigan was on its knees. But let’s just look at the facts on the auto bailout. It’s straightforward.

Thanks JER, here’s another link:
THANK YOU JER AND CHIPS…PRAISE THE LORD FOR BRINGING OUR PBO BACK SAFELY! THIS…MADE MY DAY!…:)
THIS…IS A ‘YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH’ MOMENT!!!!!!!!
Here he comes. Thank You Lord for bringing him home safely to us!!!!!!!!
Is my PBO home from Afgstn yet?
Yes he is!! Always beautiful to see POTUS wheels down on terra firma.
POTUS is on his way to the WH. I’m so grateful he’s back home safely.
He actually had a hop in that bounce down those steps. Chips your mom would not have been able to take that one at all
She’d have needed a brandy after that Donna!
Wow there’s a new book detailing PBO’s past relationships along w/ his love letters. He was a very serious young man and a gifted writer.
Very, very deep thinker. It feels like I’m back in my senior analytic philosophy seminars.
I wanted to pick some of your brains here. I wasn’t on this blog when the President authorized the surge in Afghanistan. I’m curious about what you all think about it; looking back, do you think it helped us get to the point we’re at now in Afghanistan?
I just read the excerpt and holy smokes PBO puts most people in their twenties to shame. He really is a gifted writer. The insight into how conflicted he was in his 20s, – he did write about that in his books – how he was searching for an identity, how he wanted to right the wrongs of the world, how he appreciated people from all walks of life and all cultures, how others older than him were astonished at his depth and wisdom. The man had and still has depth.
The underlying prevailing thought is that Pres. Obama was a thinker. Boy was he a thinker. He thought and he thought and he thought. Then he wrote. Then he thought and thought and thought and thought. Then he wrote. And thought some more. Woah.
And what he does with language – language that pushes the thought deeper and in new places – is absolutely astonishing.
Exactly, meta…”language that pushes the thought deeper and in new places” was indeed astonishing and I found myself completely absorbed as in time was suspended. I couldn’t help thinking about my own philosophy classes and the attendant discussions and writings. To be honest, I feel like a mental midget in comparison. In retrospect, I was only scratching the surface of big questions, themes, organizing principles and idealism, realism, existentialism,,,whereas, PBO took intellectual constructs and infused them with an understanding of the human existence and then absorbed them into a cohesive, actualized man.
Dayum, our president is a rarity and it shows.
EXACTLY!! I studied philosophy and logic so I’m fascinated with all this stuff. My thesis was on realism and anti-realism so would have also loved to have you in my seminars along with PBO. Ha!!
The impotent press is mocking this excerpt. Too deep for them. Obviously.
My kind of man. Wow. I need to find a man like him.
WORD!! Now THAT is falling in love.
Absolutely fascinating. The development of the man needed by this country as this moment in history.
So mah Prez is back? Woot! Hope he got a nice loooong nap on the plane.
