My heart skipped a beat, and then I was so disappointed when I realized I hadn’t won. Contrary to MSM and their false mesage, the young people are energetic and ready to vote in November for the President. Most of them are 18 already or will be 18 just in time for the election.

We should send these pictures to all of the television stations and newspapers and ask them to publish them alongside Romney’s crowd when he visists colleges. Not going to happen, I know but we can dream.

Lots of high school students hope their senior projects make a mark. Hellgate High senior Shyla Allred’s idea will leave a legacy in the school’s electricity bill.
After learning about the difficulties electric cars had breaking into the market in her sophomore year, Allred discovered an interest in renewable energy. She considered approaching the Missoula Public Library, but its long-term plans were too complex to start tinkering with its power supply.
So Allred looked closer to class, and suggested adding solar energy to Hellgate’s power picture. Principal Russ Lodge was agreeable. But it looked like she’d have to raise $20,000 to make a serious impact.
Then she teamed up with Scott Solar LLC owner Erin Scott, who agreed to be her project mentor. Scott’s green energy company installs solar power systems for small businesses and homes, and she’s familiar with the complex financing that makes the additions affordable.
“I hope it shows Missoula that sustainable thinking pays off,” Allred said. “With our paper budget, the Hellgate art department can’t afford paper towels. I hope 3 kilowatts is enough so we can get towels in the art department.”

I guess size isn’t important to them, Linda.

    • May 4, 2012 at 3:17 pm

I always wonder about the lack of commentary on both the lack of commentary on crowd size and their lack of enthusiasm. When Romney was making a pathetic attempt to go increase his share of the youth vote, all I saw were young people who looked catatonically bored-as if they were forced to be there.

voter registration down among Hispanics, blacks:(( Now this is something to genuinely be concerned about because even if PBO has huge leads among these 2 groups if they aren’t registered they can’t vote. This coupled with the voter id laws might be the biggest impediments he’s facing. I know the campaign is/will continue to address both of these issues especially now that the campaign is officailly kicking off 2morrow. Do they do voter drives at the rallies?

New York Post Columnist Phil Mushnick Asks Why Jay-Z Doesn’t Change Nets Name to “New York N—–s”

As long as the Nets are allowing Jay-Z to call their marketing shots — what a shock that he chose black and white as the new team colors to stress, as the Nets explained, their new “urban” home — why not have him apply the full Jay-Z treatment? Why the Brooklyn Nets when they can be the New York N——s? The cheerleaders could be the Brooklyn B—-hes or Hoes. Team logo? A 9 mm with hollow-tip shell casings strewn beneath. Wanna be Jay-Z hip? So, what’s going on with the economy? I saw the projections prior to the release of last month’s jobs report had the U.S. gaining 168,000 and we missed that mark by a wide margin. I don’t understand why growth has slowed. I thought we had some positive momentum heading into the spring and that it would continue into the summer. Now, at best, we’re struggling to say above 100,000? Is this a long-term problem, or are we going to be back to respectable gains in the next few months?

    • 62 Don
      May 4, 2012 at 3:08 pm

4.2 million jobs created in 23 months, step back from the ledge dude. And next when the numbers fall below 8% someone will have to talk Romney voters off the ledge.

    • 63 Melanie
      May 4, 2012 at 3:20 pm

I understand your question Drunk. What some economists are saying is that the unusually warm weather we had during winter kind of inflated the numbers we had earlier in the year. So now the weather has kind of normalized the numbers are not keeping up with growth earlier in the year. Some of those same economists are also saying that the numbers will pick back up in a month or two. I remember someone on CNBC saying we need to average 150,000/month for the rest of the election cycle for PBO to be comfortably reelected. I think we will get back up to that pace. When we hit that 7.9% unemployment rate which may be next month, I think that will be a big psychological achievement. Romney is trying to move the goal post saying we need 4% UE and 500,000/month jobs knowing that is impossible in the next 6 months. Most voters aren’t going to fall for that and will be much more realistic.

      • May 4, 2012 at 3:26 pm

        Thanks, Melanie.

It was actually Nate Silver who said if we average 150,000 a month between now and election day, Obama will probably be elected. I did see they revised their numbers for March to an increase above 150,000, so, I anticipate April’s numbers will be revised as well. It doesn’t change the narrative, though, that seems to be spreading through the media that the economy is tanking again. I don’t think it is. It’s just disappointing we didn’t see enough gains this month to give us an initial healthy report.

Fortunately, it’s still a bit early. If what you say happens, by summer, we’ll be gaining a healthy amount of jobs again and this month won’t matter.

        • 65 Melanie
          May 4, 2012 at 3:39 pm

I completely agree about the narrative that’s being formed. It’s the initial story that’s being reported and not the revisions; those get posted on page 67. The initial numbers have to get better and I believe they will.

CHART: Under Obama, Economy Has Recovered All Private Sector Jobs Lost During Bush Recession

    —————————

As of April, there are now more private sector jobs in the United States than there were in January 2009, when President Obama took office. You read that right. We have now replaced all of the private sector jobs lost while Obama has been president. And that was no mean feat, given that over the course of 2009, the private sector shed about 4.2 million jobs.

Unfortunately, the news is not nearly so good when it comes to the public sector, where there are currently 607,000 fewer people working than there were when President Obama took office.

And for we Tech geeks, this is what I call a Fuck Yeah and a Hell No! Technology is great and can also be frustrating. The iPhone 4 and the Galaxy S II come out and they’re both kick ass phones and before one can fully enjoy them, the iPhone4S comes on the market and now the GalaxyS III comes out on the market just a couple months after the Galaxy S II. Don’t get me wrong, the features are sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet. It pretty much does everything and the Android software makes the iPhone weep, but it’s so frustrating that while you’re enjoying the Samsung Galaxy S II, they bring out the Samsung Galaxy S III to make you weep in agony and gnash your teeth. Ugh!

p.s. The Samsung Galaxy S III has GREAT features, as frustrating as the too early roll out is.

Look how smart President Obama’s Team is:

This opportunity is so unique I wanted to make sure you knew all about it.

For only $5, the Charlotte in 2012 Convention Host Committee will put your name on a the Convention’s official stock car. Not corporations’ or lobbyists’ names; just the names of folks pitching in to build the grassroots network that’s making this convention possible.

121 days from now, we will be at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina to celebrate the Carolinas, Virginia and the South. The free and family friendly Labor Day event will include many activities to welcome the delegates, the media, and the community to Charlotte, but this is your opportunity to participate in this important Convention today.

The Convention’s official stock car will be showcased at the Labor Day event with the names of all the grassroots supporters on it. You will be able see your support (and mine) on the race car itself. It’s a simple way to illustrate a very big, and fundamental idea about why we’re different:

This Convention is all about people like you, and making sure that more folks can participate in this process than ever before.

Will you join me in giving $5 or whatever you can right now to add your name will be added to the “Powered by the American People” stock car alongside of mine?

Together we can drive this country forward,

Massachusetts House leaders released a major proposal to control health care costs today, calling for creation of a new agency to monitor health spending and order reductions in hospital and doctor fees it finds excessive. The lawmakers project their plan would save families thousands of dollars over the next five years.

The long-awaited bill would require the medical industry to cut the rate of growth of health spending in half, to about 3.7 percent a year, mirroring the overall growth in the Massachusetts economy.

A new quasi-independent agency would oversee compliance with this goal, in part by investigating providers and insurers whose prices exceed the limit and in some cases requiring them to renegotiate fee increases.

The legislation also takes aim at the extreme variation in prices that hospitals charge insurers and government payers for similar services. Investigations by the Globe Spotlight Team and Attorney General Martha Coakley’s office have documented that hospitals with market power –because of their reputation, location or specialized services — often charge much more than other hospitals for services of similar quality.

    @DrunkenIrisnman

Here’s what Andrew Sullivan quotes from The National Review (of all places!):
(referring to past and future revisions in the jobs report…this is what pundits conveniently leave out.)

“Including these revisions, nonfarm payrolls were up 168,000 and private payrolls were up 196,000, both beating consensus expectations. Some analysts ignore these revisions, but we think that’s a big mistake. Normal monthly revisions to the original payroll report have now been positive for ten straight months and have averaged about 40,000 per month during this period. As a result, without revisions, analysts have a systematically and downwardly biased impression about the job market.”
