I did too. Isn’t it amazing how the pundidiots and GOP believe low numbers but don’t believe high numbers. Also, 8% unemployment means 92% employment.

        May 4, 2012 at 2:24 pm

I say that every month. Less than 10% unemployment means more than 90% are working, who are boosting the economy and creating jobs for the other 10% looking for jobs. And these same critics want to hand it over to a bunch of crooks who want to employ the same policies that are creating 25% unemployment in Europe.

the problem is that you’ve now identified all emails from TOD as spam. so it’s not that they aren’t sent, they are probably re-directed to your spam folder. You’re gonna have to unspam TOD. Earlier today i posted instructions for how to get rid of the crazy emails. The are on the rise and shine thread.

    May 4, 2012 at 11:55 am

Just posted on the last thread. Re-posting because by the time I finished there was a new thread.

It seems to me Huffington Post and FOXTV were started in very similar fashion. I watched FOX regularly when it first started because it’s programming was serving under served demograhics: AAs and youth. Think about it, In Living Color, 21 Jump Street, 24 (first story was about a black candidate for president), Roc, Arsenio Hall, The Image Awards,The Simpsons, 90210, Melrose Place, The X Files. The popularity of those early shows launched FOX as a serious contender. While FOX still caters to the youth market, they have little to no black oriented programs anymore because now that they are accepted as a major network they don’t need to provide any niche programming. They used us and moved on.

Arianna saw that the Left was under served, used that to her advantage and now that HuffPo is an established site she can revert back to her reptilian ways. I guess that’s Business 101. In both cases success was achieved by providing a service no one else was providing. As a result dirty as it may be, millions made, mission accomplished.

A nice little letter from Romney to President Obama….it’s worth the read.

Mitt Romney issues Ohio challenge to President Obama

    ”Dear Mr. President,

Welcome to Ohio. I have a simple question for you: Where are the jobs?

    ———

Mr. President, forgive me for being blunt, but when it comes to economic affairs, you’re out of your depth. Unlike you, I am not a career politician.

He has done PBO a favor. When he visits OH, PBO can list the UE rate now versus a few years ago. He can tout the number of auto jobs created doing his term. He can also talk about Williard’s record in OH. There must be at least one company in OH that was destroyed by Bain. If not, he can tie W.’s failed policies to Williard’s plan, if elected, to continue the same policies. Thanx Williard!

      May 4, 2012 at 12:35 pm

GGail, last time I replied, I unchecked the box in the bottom of the reply field that was auto-checking itself. Rec’d two more request emails from WP to confirm my subscription, but am now trashing them rather than one them. The little box has remained unchecked for notification of follow up emails. So far. I’m sure they will sort out soon.

    • 51 lisalovesobama
      May 4, 2012 at 4:29 pm

Did you use these instructions? They should resolve your problems. If not, let me know and we can go through it together. I haven’t gotten an e-mail all day:

Okay, so I did a few things and now I’m not getting e-mails and the “notify me of follow-up comments via e-mail” thing at the bottom of the comment section isn’t automatically checkmarked. You can do all 4 of the things or you can experiment to see exactly which one did the magic. They are all simple to do and don’t take much time:

      1) Do what I said earlier, click on the subscription option link at the bottom of one of the e-mails and follow it to the WP site where there is a dialog box on the left. Click on the dialog box and unfollow and hit apply.

      2) Now look –I think–below the dialog box, you will see three headings like: site, post and I think date or time or something(horrible memory).
      b) hit ‘site’ and move to one on the topics that are listed, as soon as you get anywhere near one i.e: this thread’s topic, you’ll see the words delete in red appear. Do that for all of them. And then you’ll get a relatively long message about how you’ve deleted these topics, etc.

      3) Scroll up, you will see the WP logo with a .com at the end, beneath that you will see 4 options: (sites, comments, pending, settings) hit settings and you will get like 3 options, click ‘block all emails, etc”

      4) Finally, just go to TOD and you know that header that lets you know you’ve signed in? It’s got the WP logo, then ‘The Obama Diary,” then the word “Follow” when you are following there is a check mark infront of the word. When you are ‘unfollowing’, there is a + sign in a circle— this gets rid of that automatic checkmark that appears below the comment box.

So these don’t take any time and I haven’t gotten any more e-mails and I just checked it so these steps should work.

I haven’t been over there yet but I will go later. What was that one headline grabber he wrote awhile back?.. Oh yeah, “Obama Mangles Speech”..boy did BS get blasted for that. It was the one where PBO said “it was “reported” that Rutherford B. Hayes said “It was a great invention but who would ever want to use one.” BS left out the word “reported”.

I was introduced to Josh Marshall when Al Franken had his radio show on Air America. I watched his website grow and over time there has just been too much of the nostrils flaring and hair on fire headlines like Huff&Puff. There was a period of time when I just didn’t want to click on the site because they were constantly hyperventilating about something. It can be exhausting. So today, I rarely click on the site. I have just had enough of the sarcasm and innuendo. The wisecrack about the unemployment numbers and a wet blanket is really disappointing.

    • May 4, 2012 at 12:44 pm

Over 100k jobs were created in April. In three months that’s 528k jobs. Since when did 26 straight months of positive job growth, numbers revised upward from previous months and the unemployment rate ticking downward become lousy news?

What in the name of thunder is wrong with Josh Marshall?

meta, When President Obama is re-elected in November, it’s going to leave these know it all jackasses trying to figure out how he did it. I don’t know who the heck TPM is and don’t care too.

        May 4, 2012 at 1:40 pm

This is just the media moving the goal posts again. Since PBO took office, they have been telling us that if the unemployment rate wasn’t 8% then POTUS was dooooomed. Now that the unemployment rate is getting close to 8, they are suddenly concerned about the number of jobs. This is in no way going to stop people from being excited about seeing the President, quite frankly, the only people who care about the job totals an unemployment rate are the msm.

        • 65 L3
          May 4, 2012 at 2:39 pm

You are so right. When unemployment was over 9%, Tweety insisted it had to be at 8% for PBO to be re-elected.

It’s specially benji sarlin, who has gotten a lot of condemnation for his “huff & puff” headlines. I joined tpm so I could comment positively on PBO and was pleasantly surprised when most of the other commentors were pro PObama.

  21. 67 jmlkoskey
    May 4, 2012 at 12:20 pm

Totally off-the-wall question: I love watching PBO at these appearances and I notice that whenever he’s done speaking and starts shaking hands, they always start playing “Stars and Stripes Forever” (and some other marches) on an infinite loop! Is that actually playing live at the venue or is it just on CNN’s broadcast? If it was actually being played at each event – if I was PBO, I’d be so sick of it by now! Too bad, b/c it’s great music – in moderation.

I have been thinking about the Vanity Fair article about President Obama’s old girlfriend. The right has tried so hard to find something, anything, that could be considered scandalous. Can you imagine the digging that has gone on? They got nothin’. So they dig up this old girlfriend who should be ashamed of letting letters be published. Shame on her. This is the stuff that supermarket tabloids print. I don’t think printing letters written by a man in his 20’s is fair. He is the President–where is the respect? I don’t recall ever seeing college letters of any other president published.

    • 97 Pamela
      May 4, 2012 at 12:50 pm

Totally agree, auni. Sooner or later someone from PBO’s past would cave to money. But, he was a single man, intelligent, sociable, damn good-looking, of course he had a life, of course he dated, experimented, what young person doesn’t? If he hadn’t, they would be all over that fact. It just highlights how stupidly frantic they are. What the rw will hate even more, Barack Obama’s past CAN be scrutinized and he will be found to be just what he is: strong, intelligent, kind, thoughtful, principled, ethical, generous. He was not married then, he has never cheated on the wonderful woman he loves and who loves him. This ex-girlfriend was always going to be there, PBO knew all along this kind of stuff would emerge. They have nothing. I have learned to love Hillary now, (not Bill tho), but if any of these smart asses think Hillary’s campaign would have overlooked anything really compromising, it would have come to light back in ’07 and ’08. Same with McDecrepit, no doubt he had his people digging deep to find any kind of dirt on PBO. There isn’t any. This, too will pass. Barack Obama is who he says he is. He walks his talk. He is The Man! He is loved, by millions, our love will keep him safe and strong. Remember what he always says, it’s not about him, it’s about us!

Funny now that they are digging into old girlfriends etc admitting he had a life here when Trump and the RW was saying he didn’t come from here that no one even knew him before?

blackwaterdog, there will be set backs in this campaign, everyday won’t be sunny, but we have to keep our mind on the bigger picture. November 6th. A piece of advice, stay off of twitter today. Lift up your spirits, because we will win this. President Obama will be re-elected. Count on.

This election for all intents and purposes is a done deal, actually it was over before it even started. President Obama has everything under control, from the Jobs Rate to the Chinese dissident on his was to America. Romney and his campaign are classic reactionaries, they are like dogs that run around in circles chasing their own tails. Only in a bizarre world would a decline in the employment rate of 8.1% from a high of over 10% would be seen as a negative. And tomorrow when President Obama and Michelle get this thing started, the end for Romney will begin.

i agree about the presidential, don, but we’ve got to deliver the biggest majorities possible in the house and senate, so for that reason alone we should all work as hard as we ever have in our lives for an election. as bobfr here often points out, we can put the 150+ year american civil war to bed once and for all if we give PBO massive majorities in congress.

This is great material for an ad. It’s more proof Romney doesn’t know what he is talking about.

Romney Claims Economy Should Be Adding 500,000 Jobs A Month, Which It Has Done Only Four Times In 50 Years

        ————————————-

Romney’s call for 500,000 jobs a month would certainly make for a faster economic recovery. That sort of growth, however, is hardly “normal,” as Romney claims. As the chart below shows, there have only been 16 months since 1939 — and only four in the last 50 years — in which the economy added 500,000 jobs or more:
        .
        .
Romney has staked his campaign on his knowledge of the economy. But as his former primary opponent Rick Santorum said in March, “If Mitt Romney’s an economic heavyweight, we’re in trouble.”

I have never seen a more shallow politician in my life. And he has shown us his meanness with the disrespectful comments about President Carter. The man is repulsive. There’s no there there. He has no convictions. He stands on the sidelines and criticizes PBO and never provides specifics about what he would do differently. There is nothing about him that says statesman. His entire campaign is built on falsehoods. And the way he jumped on the China diplomatic problem really revealed his desperation to change the subject from OBL. He is the worst kind of opportunist.

This is a must-read. Other than Eisenhower, who would be a Democrat today, and one time under St. Ronnie, the 16 times that this happened since 1939 were under Democratic Presidents.

Tweety wins hands down with the whiplash issue. His violent swings back and forth could make you dizzy. He was on a roll last night with the take down of Romney criticizing President Carter. I think he worked for President Carter and it’s hard for him to disguise his dislike for Romney.

When HuffPo stopped giving news and turned to gossip and GOP propaganda, I turned to TPM for news.
    Now TPM is GOP propaganda.

      ThinkProgress is generally okay.

    • May 4, 2012 at 1:53 pm

This is it, Vicki. It’s as you say. Our voices are being edged out every single day by MSM owners and RW money men. It’s deliberate and it’s systematic. I turn to twitter and TOD to find bits of important news that aren’t tinged by hatred and profit-motive. It’s one of the most depressing things we as Democrats have to face and I don’t know what to do about it.

And Romney met yesterday with conservative bloggers to coordinate their message and at the same time complain about the liberal media. Meanwhile, the Republican Party has turned working the refs into an art form. Most of the media has been brow beaten into carrying water for the GOP and creating fake equivalence. The liberal media is led around by the nose like sheep doing the bidding of the GOP and they still complain.

Go through TOD’s blog roll. Politicususa and Addicting Info are good sites for general lefty info. Think Progress is good. I always read Steve Benen, Charlie Pierce, Washington Monthly, PM Carpenter, The Peoples View throughout the day and click on almost everything else. But those are my go-to sources. He doesn’t post often but Milton Schook at PCTC has great insights.

OBAMA TO SILICON VALLEY FOR FUNDRAISING – President Barack Obama will be in Silicon Valley on May 23 for three campaign events. He will be in Palo Alto for “a campaign roundtable to support the Asian-American/Pacific Islander community” (http://bit.ly/IyyPVE) followed by a dinner in Atherton (http://bit.ly/IJXxS7 ). Tickets to either event cost about $35,000. Then the president will head to the Fox Theater in Redwood City for a reception. Tickets for that event range from $250 per person to $12,500 for three plus a photo. Proceeds will be divided between the primary, the general election and the Democratic National Committee, as well as some state party committees. http://bit.ly/L151lW
