Good morning all. Remember, Friday’s Good!
Morning everyone
Thanks Chips! This was in my favs and it was removed! Tweeting it now!!
Congrats, proud! Chips – You are so funny! Happy Friday. Oh, BTW, who is that masked man in the photo? The one with the spine of steel? Love the way the young boy is looking at him. Nice way to start the day.
Good day
Leaving in a bit to volunteer. We are re-doing a Library in need at an elementary school. Can’t wait.
Way to go! Have fun today!
Good morning everyone
Good Morning Loves!!
Good morning all.

Funny. Bo looks very concerned in this cartoon.
I’ll take Bo over that other guy with a funny name and funnier ears. Any day.
Hahaha….that’s a good one.
Love it, amk!
Jobs: 163,000 (up from March, but below projections)
Unemployment stays at 8.2%
More details coming!
Where’d this come from?
Mika reading it on MSNBC
Be prepared for a slew of snarky tweets from Mark Knoller spinning the jobs report in the most negative way possible.
I know. [sigh!]
remember that we have our “very own White House corresponde snarknoller ” ? I have no doubt that an appropriate rebuttal will be ready. the comebacks from “our Team” has been every effective and I have no doubt that Mark Knoller has noticed. so far so good
That’s so-so but not as bad as I expected given the three consecutive weeks of increased unemployment claims.
Me too.
I just heard on two local tv stations here in Los Angeles, that the number is 8.1%, DOWN from 8.2% in April.
Let’s not spread incorrect information from questionable sources like them jokers.

I like the tiny “you can still shift” in the bottom right corner. Oh, he’ll shift all of those positions again and again until we get him off the national stage and out of our faces in November.
That’s the best part of toles. I live for it.
Morning everybody!!

Great comics this morning, amk!
I see Mormonism is finally getting some attention, from the AP at least. And if you buy that the “I am Mormon” campaign had nothing to do with Romney running for president, I’ve got a bridge to sell ya. Of course it did; it was laying the groundwork for Willard, trying to make his religion seem “normal” and more acceptable. I find the whole thing creepy and troubling—-for a million reasons— especially since Willard Mitt served in the upper echelons of that religion.
http://www.nwherald.com/2012/05/03/romney-mormons-brace-for-a-mean-political-season/aacnxuw/
I’ve been beating this drum some lately myself. How is he any different than an Archbishop of the Catholic Church? We would never entertain the thought of electing someone of that rank to President. Why does he get a pass just because he’s Mormon?
Creepy is mild.. When these “I’m a Mormon” billboards and bus ads appeared in Seattle last fall, on first glance it was so blatantly obvious where this was coming from… They are sickening. The only laughable thing, from a distance it looks like “I’m a Moron”, and never fails to make me laugh! Insidious how they have chosen models from all races and both genders (but no gays) to pose for the ads. Some of whom are highly unlikely to really be Mormon. As I said, insidious.
Good morning Chips, TOD, everyone!
My inbox was flooded with emails although I unchecked that “Notify” box yesterday.
What’s going on with that Hopefruit??? Even I had comment notifications in my inbox this morning – and I’m not signed up for any!
Weird. Sounds to me like a wordpress issue – it only started yesterday for me. Do you have any way of contacting them?
Oooooooooo weeeeeeee — whut up with that, whut up with that?
Dudette, ssssshhhhh. They’ll know we were partyin’ again.
Hey guys, down thread are instructions to unsubscribe and be rid of emails.
Uh oh, wordpress found me too after I made a comment here on this thread. I’m scurred…..
Switching to Bill Press on Current TV, cuz I can only take so much of Morning Joe.
Well, whatdoyaknow? Jimmy Kimmel in the studio with Bill Press this morning.
Sorry, I need some coffee.
Just saw him out of the corning of my eye. NOT Jimmy Kimmel, it’s David Shuster.
Sheesh!!
I watch Bill Press on Current TV, he is dare I say it, impressive. LOL.
Watch Stephanie Miller from 9-12 after Press. She’s great, IMO.
26 straight months of private sector job growth can NEVER be a bad thing. No matter how the MSM and GOP try to spin it.
My friend texted me last might and said the Avengers is awesome.
Will go see it today!
But first, those jobs numbers? Cone on!
Hey Jovie! Thanks for the reminder. I definitely want to see that!
It’s reports like these that tell the REAL story – and that which will matter come November, much more than a monthly “jobs” number that gets completely spun out of order by the MSM!
Excellent!!
Guys with mass emails!! Open up the email and click on a blue –I think— link at the bottom that says subscription option. That takes you to WordPress where you may have to log in if you aren’t already. There is a drop down box on the left hand side where the default action appears to be something like “bulk” , click on the drop down box for menue, there’s another option: unsubscribe. Click that and a message should tell you that you’ve been unsubscribe. I believe this will eliminate the problem.
Thanks Lisa! I just checked the WordPress forum and others are having the same problem, so whatever they changed I hope they flippin’ change back. Sorry to everyone who has a stuffed inbox
Thanks lisa and I’m glad to hear that other forums are having the same problem and it’s not just here. I was beginning to get a bit…, well you know me already. I don’t leave anything to chance – especially in an election year!!!
Thanks lisa! I was starting to get a notification each time you guys commented this morning and I can’t have that.
Joe blocked me on twitter… and I have no idea why. I don’t watch his bullshit in the morning lol.
If you have something to say about him on twitter, you can continue. Forget the b*****d! He can dish it out, but he cannot take it. . . Joe, remember the dead woman in your office when you were a congressman???
Perhaps he saw some of your tweets and identified you as an O’bot.
The point of twitter is others reading your tweets. Who gives a shite whether the recipient sees yours or not? You just continue using their @tags and beat them with bricks so that real people who count aka voters see what these msm pigs are doing.

For a minute there, I thought the first line was about “senior citizens” and then the “and their parents” part kind of made me wonder how old is this group? Ha! Then I saw the “high school” part so, I’m thinking, yeah, I really did undersleep this morning. Maybe I’ll come back to read the rest, later.
Thanks for the Friday’s Good video Chips! Just what I need to start my day off. Head out into slay dragons in the mad, mad corporate world.
Everyone have a beautiful day! Catch you later!
Big Wet Sloppy Smooches to ALL of my TOD Family!!! Mmmmmwah!!!
Good day to you, Dudette!
Chinese dissident problem solved!
I bet Mittbot feels really stupid right now. Asshole.
Or he’ll claim credit for ‘solving’ the problem. This would never have happened without him, you know /snark
Soft power with Hillary doing her part. She looked tired today’s PC.
CK, feeling stupid should be Mittbot’s default position.
LOL!
Do sociopaths feel stupid? Do they feel?
HF, I wonder if his wife can get a fellowship, too. It would be awkward if she were exchanged for him as a prisoner. Hope they work all of it out.

115K jobs 8.1 UE
U.S. ECONOMY ADDS 115,000 NEW JOBS IN APRIL; UNEMPLOYMENT RATE AT 8.1%
Upward revision to last month +154K
Upward revisions for February (+19,000) and March (+34,000)
Nice, I’m betting the unreasonably warm winter months had to do with this– we were getting 200K in Jan and Feb…and we are getting upward revisions which is good.
Previous months also revised up. Just like this one will be.
March was revised up to 154, and February 259!
53k added to previous months.
115k this month will be revised up!
Now, comes for Bad news for Obama headlines.
Bet?
Everything is ‘bad news for Obama’ according to the media. Being re-elected will be bad news for him as well as he’ll have to deal with those idiots for another 4 years.
It’s becoming increasingly difficult to spin the economic news as “bad news for Obama.” That’s just obviously not the case.
More positive trends:
Health care added +19,000 jobs in April.
Yup…and
Awesome.
Freaking awesome jobs numbers. Plus, the unemployment rate fell. Good News.
I really wish PBO would push the job creating aspect of ACA.
Per my comment way below, news never mentioned the upward revisal, but said we need to add atleast 125,00 per month to show a good upward pace. So, they “don’t ” mention the revisal. NPR likes to f–k with our minds. My public radio will never get a donation from me as long as they use that news outlet. In fact, I will tell them so precisely, today.
Cue Robme barking at new shiny object without offering a sense of how he would or could have done better.
Word press !!!!!! Why all the follow up emails?????
See lisa’s comment above instructing us on how to rid the problem (hopefully once and for all)!
thanks
Good morning everyone and good night. Just made it back from the Chu-hi stand here in Japan (9:35pm Fri) with my Navy Chief husband. Headed to bed, can’t wait to catch up with you guys in the morning.
Good morning and Happy Friday, TODville!!
I love the pundits, this report is bad news for Obama, and with smiles on their Faces.
Frivolous.
All these months are revised up, so Robney can suck it.
We know the drill already with these pundiots – fortunately, this “smile” on their faces will be erased soon.
Hopefully,
It’s sickening that these pundits are all Haters.
It’s personal with them. Still don’t get the Hate. Oh well!
I actually thought it would be worse, so I am pleased this month will be revised up and that we are almost at the point of jobs added lost under this President, is even.
Once that gets out there, it should count for something!
Hf, I wonder how many ordinary, decent people who watch these shows wonder why the pundits smile if people don’t have jobs and seem upset when they do. Not everybody watching is on the secret anti-Obama code, so they must be wondering what’s wrong with these tv people. To many people, continued job growth and even a small drop in unemployment is good news, so it can’t add much to the credibility of the pundits to be seen rooting for bad things to happen. The haters get so wrapped up in their warped prejudices that they can even see how stupid they look to others.
Good morning folks! Exactly and we will have the last laugh on November 6th. All the smirks will be wiped off their faces and we will be laughing and crying. Tears of joy and redemption.
Romney’s biggest lie——that PBO is destroying free enterprise in the U.S.

Link to BLS jobs report:
http://bls.gov/news.release/empsit.nr0.htm
As expected, CNBC hacks are saying bad news for Obama.
I wish Congress would pass the infrastructure bill. That would surely create more jobs.
I don’t EVER recall a time when CNBC hacks said “good news for Obama.”
So that doesn’t perturb me in the least!
HF, my husband is always reminding me how small the cable audience is relative to the general population and those who vote. Their influence is far less than their own fantasies. Sort of like DK, Huff Puff and other sites that think large numbers of people care what they think.
When Obama is re-elected in November the MSM will be saying “bad news for Obama” and go in some rural town to find 25 people who voted for him in 2008, and didn’t vote for him this time, and proclaim that he doesn’t have support and good will of the American people as he did in 2008. Be prepared for these kinds of narratives…
Lol! True.
Nope HF. When the president gets re-elected I’m going to be dancing like Gene Kelly (“Dancing in the Rain”) and I’m not stopping to listen to anybody. I’m already practicing my moves. Lampposts look out–here I come!!!
Congress is not going to pass anything like that, this is what they are hoping for, this have been their plan all along. So POTUS will get the blame. We are still adding jobs, we are not losing jobs them. No we are not adding like we need too. We didn’t get into this mess overnight and we won’t get out of it over night. The pundits and media are anti-Obama. If the jobs numbers had come out over 300,000 they would have found something negative some how.
If they ever say “good news for Obama” I’d actually drop dead. So just leave them to spew in their own bile and press on. Victory is ours come November.
180 emails! WordPress. WHAT UP WITH THAT?!!??! I did the buk unsubscribe. We’ll see what happens.
Hopefully, John Connor can take out Skynet, before anything else happens!
What is skynet?
Good morning, everyone. It’s Friday!
Chips, do not feel bad. I feel the same way. The days, weeks and months seem to whisk by so fast.
All good, I say. Just bringing us closer to NOVEMBER. D-Day for Mitt and the repugs.
28 years of turning this Mother Out!
That reminds me of a song back in the day…….hmmmm?
Happy Friday, everyone. Do not let the jobs record get you down. We have so much more to be grateful and thankful for.
We have a President who knows how to get some prayers heard and answered. What do we have to fear?
I am beginning to love the WHCD/Prom. Our President becomes “Our Magic Man”. now, I know that is a song. Reminds me of Magic Johnson when I was in to watching the NBA sports.
Excuse this memory lane moment. Gearing up to celebrate my birthday on Monday. It just gets better with time…..another song.
The sun is coming out in NYC. Woke up this morning to the sound of loud thunder and lightning flashing. That is what it is going to sound like during the landslide victory for our second term President and NP taking back her gavel. Yes, I am in a very good mood. We all should be, inspite of whatever happens. This weekend the campaign starts and it is on! We got work to do….CBC!
Hey, LDS, Happy Birthday in advance. Hope Monday brings you lots of joy. You get to decide if you want the president to give you cupcakes on Monday or the crumbcake he served on AF1 coming back from Afghanistan. So many choices. Aren’t birthdays grand!
Thank you, jg! Yes, they are. I love crumb cake. I love airplane rides. So I guess I put my order in early.
I plan to volunteer all weekend and I just donated, left a message as per VP Joe Biden’s e-mail I received. They are so remarkable. They are covering all grounds. They just keep coming up with smart, clever, innovating ideas. I like progressive positive ppl.
Thank you, again. Have a piece of crumb cake with me. I love to share.
You heard that storm LDS? I just rolled over and went back to sleep. We will never give up. We will just press on, marching to victory. I am in a good mood despite the pains, grateful for t his space, for this time in history that I am able to witness and for people like you who keep us inspired. Happy Birthday when it comes!
Hi Everyone, I got a gazillion emails too & I couldn’t tell if I was being punked by Chips or someone else here. I checked it out last night & ended up at the Word Press website. I deleted my “enrollment” to everyones comments. Then I cleaned out the inbox.
The problem appeared gone for me this morning. But where do you find ‘enrollment’ at wordpress?
The Jobs Number ticked down to 8.1 with over 100,000 jobs being created. Already the mainstream media is trying to cast a negative light on these numbers. These are good numbers folks.
Their good only because they will be revised up over 150k, which is the break even number for UE rate.
I bet Morning Jerk would prefer Europe numbers?
It’s looking like we may be below 8% before election day.
Keep praying. Keep pushing positive thoughts.
Amen!
It will be and if it’s not it still will be better than it was last yer this time.
I’m back to getting emails. I guess we have to unsubscribe every day until WP sorts this out?
See lisa’s post above how to permanently disable emails.
Yeah, I’ve done that twice and again today. Something’s wrong on the WP side.
I’m in the middle of testing something else out. Someone respond to me and let’s see what happens.
Yooooohoooooo!
perfect! Give me a couple of seconds and then I’ll post what to do to hopefully not get e-mails again. Ugh. WP still automatically selects the notify tab. :roll;
Hi Lisa, I just read these comments at WordPress support –
This began happening to me last night, and like above, I checked my settings, but could find no changes there. My difference is I can see the notify option on the blogs.
Whether it is my own blog, or any others I comment on, the box is check marked automatically next to Notify me of follow-up comments via email. It used to be it was left unchecked, unless I chose to click on it. Once I discovered I could read replies to comments my Dashboard, I stopped clicking on that email notification.
I guess this is becoming such overkill. I can easily just read new comments from my Dashboard, but now have that bright orange number pop up notifying me of direct replies, and now if I do not remember to click that box, I need to see them in my email account as well???
—-
This sounds like a bug. I’ll mark it for staff to look at, please be patient.
—-
It´s happening to me too – please can someone stop them…it´s too much!
—-
http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/stop-email-notifications-for-comments-on-other-peoples-blogs?replies=8
Jeez, I hope they fix this SOON!
Chips, I no longer have these problems. I’ve listed all the things I did to get rid of them at the bottom of the thread. Hopefully, they work for others too. They didn’t take a lot of time to do, less than 10 minutes of me stumbling around. I did all 4 of them and now things are okay.
lisa, I followed your instructions and received 4 more emails – how long does it take before it gets the message that I don’t want follow up comments?????
Here goes:
kay, so I did a few things and now I’m not getting e-mails and the “notify me of follow-up comments via e-mail” thing at the bottom of the comment section isn’t automatically checkmarked. You can do all 4 of the things or you can experiment to see exactly which one did the magic. They are all simple to do and don’t take much time:
1) Do what I said earlier, click on the subscription option link at the bottom of one of the e-mails and follow it to the WP site where there is a dialog box on the left. Click on the dialog box and unfollow and hit apply.
2) Now look –I think–below the dialog box, you will see three headings like: site, post and I think date or time or something(horrible memory).
b) hit ‘site’ and move to one on the topics that are listed, as soon as you get anywhere near one i.e: this thread’s topic, you’ll see the words delete in red appear. Do that for all of them. And then you’ll get a relatively long message about how you’ve deleted these topics, etc.
3) Scroll up, you will see the WP logo with a .com at the end, beneath that you will see 4 options: (sites, comments, pending, settings) hit settings and you will get like 3 options, click ‘block all emails, etc”
4) Finally, just go to TOD and you know that header that lets you know you’ve signed in? It’s got the WP logo, then ‘The Obama Diary,” then the word “Follow” when you are following there is a check mark infront of the word. When you are ‘unfollowing’, there is a + sign in a circle— this gets rid of that automatic checkmark that appears below the comment box.
So these don’t take any time and I haven’t gotten any more e-mails and I just checked it so these steps should work.
I blame you, chips.
/It’s much easier.
Good morning TOD family today is going to be a great day! Unemployment is at 8.1%! I wonder how mittens will flip this?
Mitt just said on Fox News that we should be creating 500,000 jobs per month. That has NEVER happened. This guy is clueless.
I don’t understand why the campaign is not using the bikini graph.
I guess because its not a bikini anymore!
I just saw the perfect tweet for that…
Jeremy Holden @JerAHolden
Is Romney counting jobs he will ship oversees to get to 500K per month?
And, CK, if the economy created 500,000 per month, Mittbot would say it should be a million. Talk is cheap. Massachusetts unemployment dropped to 47th in the country when Mitt was governor. That’s the fate of the US with this bozo in charge. Ugh!
One question for Mitt: How?
Show how your policies create jobs. good-paying, secure jobs. Show me. Go ahead.
Crickets
Hahahahaha!
Joe just said that my friends over at cnbc said this is the lowest blah blah blah!
What a punkass…
Lol! Lmao! This is actually funny! Chuck Todd is actually having an orgasm, reporting what the Republucans are saying.
Their all Haters. What a riot! Hehe!
He has friends ? I don’t believe it.
CHRIS MATTHEWS SLAMS ROMNEY’S CRITICISM OF PRESIDENT CARTER
I really appreciate this Let Me Finish segment from Tweety. He is the only talk show host that I have heard call out Mitt Romney for disrespecting President Carter. It’s obnoxious that a man running for the office of the presidency would make such comments. As Tweety says President Carter had guts. Romney couldn’t even stand up for a gay employee after an outcry from the radical right.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3036697/ns/msnbc_tv-hardball_with_chris_matthews/#47286820
Wouldn’t it be nice if he defended PBO so vociferously?
He did, in a way, by slamming Romney for not having values, and PBO having values. I forget the exact wording, but it was remarkable.
Tweety is a real puzzle. That segment on Romney criticizing President Carter was spot on. But I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a segment next week that spells doom and gloom for President Obama. His political analysis is all over the place. There have been a couple of times where he went after President Obama and all I could do was stare at the tv in amazement and wonder wtf is he talking about. Where did that come from?
Yeah, but who watches Chris Matthews? Only people who already support the President. All the other news people seem to like to stir up conflict. How do we get this message out. I am afraid that all my “friends” have hidden me on FB and don’t read what I post—they know how much I support the President. How do we get the rest of America to take notice? We can’t count on the media.
And next month when the Jobs number falls below 8%, the asses of the hatters are going to start puckering up real good, sorta like I did when I used to walk home from school after I received a bad report card.
I tore up my cards. In those days you’d get a big shooping if you brought home bad grades.
Every Democrat who gets near a microphone today should point out the fact that the Republican Party has done nothing for job creation. And their sabotage is working. So bad economic news is good news for them. How patriotic?
Gigantic Half Page Headline at Huffington Puke.
12.5 million Unemployed !!!!!
Are they celebrating ?
HuffHo is bitter.
Guess that’s their way of say the unemployment fell to 8.1%
Yup, Arianna can’t hide her hatred and her timing is terrible. Only the most petulant adolescent would react so obviously and immediately to the president’s criticism of her at the Correspondent’s dinner. You can almost her storming out of the dinner in her ugly yellow dress muttering, “I’ll get him. I’ll get him.” And then she starts on her hyper, way over the top PBO hate fest and makes herself look like a superannuated sixth grader. Pathetic. Her trashy site is a waste of cyberspace.
Good morning and you are right on the money Jackie. She’s always been a Republican troll and Saturday night the President called her out. Now she’s not even hiding it.
How many people has she employed. She is getting money for free service.
BARNEY FRANK – “REPUBLICANS ARE THE PROBLEM”
Chris Matthews interviewed Congressman Barney Frank last night about the Thomas Mann/Norm Ornstein article that simply states what we all know – it’s the Republican Party at fault for the political gridlock in Washington. It was a good discussion.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3036697/ns/msnbc_tv-hardball_with_chris_matthews/#47286783
The only number that matters is 8.1 the rest is bullshit.
Yup.
It’s like it was with Reagen, the unemployment was heading in the right direction, slowly but in the right direction. The media is so anti-Obama that all they do is give us doom and gloom him. But we can’t let them get away with it. The unemployment numbers would be better if it wasn’t for the Republicans sabotaging this. This is what they have been planing all along.
I am so glad you guys are bringing the truth about the economy. Today on NPR, it’s “disappointing” news about the labor market. No where have I heard that March was revised up. We all know the truth has to get out, bypassing these water-carriers. And to think NPR is in its fund-raising phase again. How should I feel connected enough to contribute to local public radio and tv when they use the news agency affiliated witih the very congress that has slashed NPR’s budget? Assholes.
Don’t contribute and tell them why. Money talks for everybody else, why not you?
Will do so right after my second cup of java. And I just love my gardening and cooking shows on Saturday. It’s WHYY’s news I can’t stand.
How small minded and hateful does Mitch McConnell have to be to refuse the invitation to attend the ceremony recognizing his home state team, the Ky. Wildcats?
He’s one of the biggest instigators of DO NOTHING and the putrid smell in Washington. He’s an arrogant, petty and vindictive mooch.
Turtle neck has no home training. You don’t have to like the President to go show respect for the team from your own state. Triple chin mascot.
Because fox news will get mad!
Dotster, McConnell is the gold standard for small minded and hateful. He lays out the standard–give up your whole mind and your whole soul to bigotry, malice and bone-deep hatred and you, too, can be Mitch McConnell.
Unemployment rate continues to go down? cool! and as we think back over the last week and the afghanistan trip and everything else perfectly planned out, and all the various traps PBO put out that republicans stepped into, we can be sure PBO has plans to make that unemployment number keep going down and down over the summer, no matter what republicans do to try and stop it. time for the “everyone chill out, i got this” poster again.
Chris Coons is doing a good job on the dissident, jobs report, & explaining how Senate passed BiPartisan 2yr Highway Bill for 3M Jobs & the House hasn’t passed; while schooling ChuckTodd!
Obviously the pro Mitt media has a sad that the jobs numbers aren’t as bad for President Obama as they predicted. But more important than being political fodder, people are finding work. Why is it that we have media folks wanting people to remain unemployed for the sole reason of getting that black Kenyan Muslim socialist communist usurper out of their White House?
And next November, all the people who got jobs in the last year will vote for PBO. They will spend their time working, not listening to self-important pundits. They were too busy looking for work before to listen to pundits and now are too busy working. My husbasnd keeps saying there is more quiet support for the President than the media ever acknowledges. Yes, we have to work to get out the vote, but people who are working will be happy to vote and vote for the right person. No wonder Mitt and group don’t know which way to turn.
I should bookmark items, but I don’t….yesterday I read that economists looking at trends say the uneployment rate will be below 8% by election day. SORRY…..no link…..I’ll look for it again. And, as we see today, it’s on that track. No thanks to Congress!
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-250_162-57426882/economists-see-job-growth-pushing-unemployment-rate-below-8-percent-by-election-day/
// “My husbasnd keeps saying there is more quiet support for the President than the media ever acknowledges.” //
Carolyn, your husband is correct. Which is why the MSM keeps scratching their heads because their stupid obsolete “models” simply do not apply to this President.
Like this ridiculous question from Little Nate:
Wow Nate…..you’ve more than jumped the shark.
Can anyone be more popular than they should be? What kinda nonsense is that man spewing? The more popular you are the better it is for you and that includes the President. They are not making sense anymore. Hate and envy have taken up residence in their brains and fried their brain cells.Whew!
Was/ Is Ronald Reagan? When Reagan became President the jobs being shipped overseas went into warp speed. Yet the people who lost those jobs still voted for him, because they said: he made them feel proud to be Americans again. He left a legacy of big government, and big debt, but people still love and admire him. I’ll never understand it.
If you read the piece, Nate’s just saying that given the historical correlation between economic performance and presidential job approval, President Obama is outperforming the historical trend. Carter and Bush I suffered far worse in the polls than Obama has though the unemployment rate was lower in their re-election years than it is today. I’d say that’s a big complement to President Obama’s skill as a politician. In addition, as Nate also points out, President Obama is helped by the fact that public continues to blame Bush (correctly) for the economic crisis far more than it does Obama. As Nate writes, “If, hypothetically speaking, every American blamed Mr. Obama and Mr. Bush equally, his approval rating would be about 11 points lower.”
Then his lead is wrong. He should have made it more like he is in favor of a high popularity number than that snarky lead. Most times I do not read the article if the lead is swarmy or snarky. I guess I am wrong but that’s just my way of staying clear of journalists and writers who love to make the President look bad.
Yeah, I based my post below on the snarky headline and previous ones I’ve seen from nate.
On the other hand, that headline might attract a voter who wouldn’t necessarily read a puff piece about PBO. So that voter might get some good information unintentionally.
F.O. nate silver. PBO Should Be More Popular than he is and he isn’t because of corporatemediahacks like yourself.
Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen,
So what was the verdict. I see 169,000, 8.2 then I saw 8.1 which is correct? Also, I didn’t get an email regarding the new post and I’m still getting emails when new comments are posted, this started happening on yesterday afternoon after I received an email from WordPress, what gives. Thanks and Be Blessed by the Lord today and everyday forward.
Looks like that Chinese dissident is on his way to America, but but but I though that Obama bungled this whole crisis, well, that’s what they said on t.v.
Howard Kurtz is calling it “Hillary’s Debacle”. This entire episode was spun in the media to make the administration look bad in the wake of all the acknowledgement POTUS is getting for the killing of OBL. And they’re also doing it to tarnish Hillary’s reputation.
I couldn’t understand the entire American news media’s singular obsession with this subject. In the whole scheme of things…….but what it was is exactly as you describe it, an attempt to tarnish PBO and his administration——just grabbing anything and everything to bring about their horse race.
why is it a ‘debacle’ if the thing was resolved in a timely manner might I add? I don’t get. do these people know the meaning of the words that are coming out of their mouths? {{shaking my head}}
You are going to see much more of this all the way up to the election. That man in China just wanted a ride on the Clinton plane. He said to himself “I am gonna hitch a ride outta here on that plane.”
Why do you think people stow away on ships to come to America? Because the ship is in port just begging them to come hitch a ride.
If I am being held at the American Embassy and Mrs. Clinton’s plane is waiting for her, damn skippy I am going to hitch a ride with her to America. Now the MSM is making it like it’s a big deal. Watch and wait for the next big deal, it’s coming soon.
Over at CBS they’re calling it the “China Syndrome.” How clever. It looks the media are the only ones having a melt down.
PBO did say in that recent speech where he took down “trickle down economics” once and for all, that if public sector jobs across the country would have just remained even over the last 2 years, instead of being slashed by t-bagger governors, the unemployment rate would be about 6% right now. republicans freely admit it all along – they do what they do solely to hurt PBO’s re-election chances! how is this not considered treason?!?
That’s true, and I saw in confirmed while watching a story on one of the networks. They said if government jobs had not be cut like they have the unemployment rate would be around 6%.
All that really matters.

But but but Huff post and Miss Ann said….
To hell with what Arianna Huff Puff said, her feelings is still hurt. Why don’t she hire some people. I think some companies are not hiring because they are working together with the Republicans to try to bring down this President.

Chip, my apologies for the all these post!
You see THIS?
That is why when people say that the jobs situation will determine the election in November, I tell them not so fast: People do NOT blame PBO for a less-than-ideal recovery. They are blaming the Republicans, and Romney will be the biggest sufferer of the consequence.
That article is from November 2011?
Hopefully that holds true. GOP is still sabotaging.
And if they knew that in Nov 2011 – they certainly know it now..and it’s becoming clearer and clearer by the day that the GOP WANTS the economy to fail so that Romney can get into the WH.
Romney will not get into the WH. NOt gonna happenCapt’n.. No way, no how. People can’t be that supid.
I think what saves him the most, the recession did not start under this President.
Now, the Carter recession started 4 months before the 1980 election.
Can you imagine?
The Republican Party continues to sabotage the economic recovery while the feckless mainstream media looks out the window. If there had been a modicum of cooperation from the GOP just imagine what the unemployment numbers would look like today. But it’s the GOP who will make skid marks to the microphones today to criticize President Obama for slow job growth. And the media will nod their heads and never challenge the GOP about the fact that they have done absolutely nothing for job creation. The American people deserve better.
STOP BLOCKING INFRASTRUCTURE JOBS!
———————————————————
Republicans Intentionally Sabotaging The Economy?
Republicans have been blocking efforts to use government to get the economy creating jobs, as well as efforts to assist the unemployed — itself an economy-boosting, job-creating measure. They have also been forcing large numbers of layoffs of local, state and federal government workers, saying they don’t think government creates real jobs. On top of that, they have been blocking new stimulus efforts as wasteful government spending. They have been blocking job-creating high-speed rail projects. Recently they have been trying to block the Export-Import Bank that helps businesses sell products overseas.
They have been blocking everything that might help improve the economy, claiming that only tax cuts for millionaire “job creators” can do the trick (even though that’s what ‘W’ did, with no resulting growth at all.)
Republicans say they are blocking all of these job-creating and economy-improving efforts because they honestly believe that these things shouldn’t be the role of government, that government “takes money out of the economy. That’s what they say, in spite of all the historical evidence to the contrary. But some people suspect Republicans have been blocking all these efforts for a different reason: because a bad economy might improve their own election prospects, as less-informed people blame “the people in charge” — Obama and his party — and the corporate media fails to inform people that “the people in charge” are being obstructed and filibustered.

re: Mass E-mails:y
Okay, so I did a few things and now I’m not getting e-mails and the “notify me of follow-up comments via e-mail” thing at the bottom of the comment section isn’t automatically checkmarked. You can do all 3 of the things or you can experiment to see exactly which one did the magic. They are all simple to do and don’t take much time:
1) Do what I said earlier, click on the subscription option link at the bottom of one of the e-mails and follow it to the WP site where there is a dialog box on the left. Click on the dialog box and unfollow and hit apply.
2) Now look –I think–below the dialog box, you will see three headings like: site, post and I think date or time or something(horrible memory).
b) hit ‘site’ and move to one on the topics that are listed, as soon as you get anywhere near one i.e: this thread’s topic, you’ll see the words delete in read appear.
It’s got the WP logo, then ‘The Obama Diary,” then the word “Follow” ?———- click that and “UNFOLLOW” which gets rid of that automatic checkmark that appears below the comment box.
So these don’t take any time and I haven’t gotten any more e-mails.
Okay, I tried everything you listed and I’m still getting a few scraggly emails, although wordpress now says I’m not following anything.
Here is what does not seem to be working for me yet: the ‘follow’ at the top of the blog. I have to click ‘follow’ and then click ‘unfollow’?, but I am STILL seeing the ‘notify me’ boxes on the bottom of my reply window (although they remain unchecked — for now).
I’m so confused and irritated.
click on follow. when you are following there will be a check mark beside the word follow. When you unfollow there will be a + sign in a circle.
Thank you! My inbox is finally back to normal.
Although I still have the boxes to be checked at the bottom of my replies, but at least they appear to be staying ‘unchecked’.
that shouldn’t be. The last one, #4 should have taken care of that. That happened to me before I did it, now it doesn’t anymore. is there (+) beside the word “follow” at the top of you screen? if so, the check mark at the bottom of your comment box should be gone. perhaps you can close the screen and start again? there should be a plus sign beside follow.
there is a ‘plus’ sign next to ‘follow’. I checked and unchecked to ‘unfollow’ to make sure. As soon as I click to make a comment and the text box comes up, those boxes on the bottom come up. They have remained unchecked today, thank God. Closed out and reopened twice to see what would happen. I did everything else you recommended and the problem seems gone, but apparently I’m not getting the same thing that you’re getting with the ‘follow’ stuff.
it sounds like we are on the same page:
1) you aren’t getting anymore e-mails
2) the “notify me” box below the comments section is unchecked.
3) the fact that there is a (+) before the word follow at the top of your screen ensures it.
I’m so glad everything turned out okay, those danged e-mails were driving me up the wall.
Drove me absolutely insane. At least I had a lot of company!
OK…WHAT’S THE SCOOP…NOT GETTING ANY EMAILS ON THE NEW THREADS…HAD TO COME IN THE LONG WAY AND KEYWORD OD.COM? THIS IS CRAZY!
look above you, Sue. There are a few things you can do and they don’t take alot of time.

Perfect.
Putting aside the underlying slow numbers a moment, wasn’t the consensus in the village that if unemployment rate dropped below 8%, that Obama would be on sturdier ground vis a vis reelection. The other part of the story us that the previous job numbers have been revised up substantisly. So it stands to reason if the trend follows (which i believe most forcasters say the trend will peob cintinue) that next month the April numbers will also be upgraded. So even though the reporting numbers are slow unemployment rate will still go down slowly but surely. Currently it ticked down to 8.1%. At what point will the MSM begin to scoff at all the outrage from GOP about the job numbers? Are is that just. A stupid question…thy just move the goal post right?
Oh and won’t the jobs report go up in the summer with all the youths getting summer jobs and such and graduates applying for work and such or is that not really true of summer months?
Oh and AfricanAmericans unemployment down .suck on that white people! (snark/ still obviously way to high, but down is better then up)
GOP response: Obama taking jobs from the white man and giving it to the blahs!
Also unemployment rate for college grads way less than high school only, but hey people who want tosend their kids to college such snobs, right Ricky (Santorum)
The Bishops, Contraceptions, War on Mommys, Miss Ann, politicizing Bin Laden, Chinese Dissident thingy, and now The UE rate-

That is very important, as Robney has one talking point, things are worse since the President took over.
Not according to facts!
Guys, do me a favor and RT this. I hate this asshole almost as much as I hate Romney.
The beltway media will pat him on the back but I bet he’ll get SLAMMED by local media. Not because they like President Obama in Kentucky, but because his behavior is going to overshadow their beloved basket ball team’s ceremony.
McConnell and the Republicans have had a agenda against this President from day one.
Hi folks,
just a word to bring your attention to this MAGNIFICENT diary by Troubadour. It describes how Barack Obama and Mitt Romney represent two very different types of the American Dream. The diary is at DK, unfortunately, but it worth the read, I guarantee you. And if you feel like it, you can also go recommend it, so more people will see it.

I still can’t believe that the Repubs used a call center in Manilla to trash Obama on jobs. If that doesn’t say it all.
And then the RNC said that we do it too. Melanie Rousell, who works for DNC said not true and check your sources.
Yeah really!
OUTSOURCING. . . do you have a link. . . lets tweet it away!
Wait what is did?
Mitt Romney’s very own, “Thrilla in Manila!” He’ll give you 500,000 American jobs! They’re THRILLED!
What a bone head. Eveybody knows Staples, Papa Johns, and the Sports Authority can create that many jobs.
Ignorant dick.
http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2012/05/04/477983/romney-claims-economy-should-be-adding-500000-jobs-a-month-which-it-has-done-only-four-times-in-50-years/
We know Mitt Romney is a liar, don’t we?
Just like it was easy for Mitt Romney to say he would have authorized the OBL raid (after President Obama’s leadership successfully accomplished the mission), it is also easy for Mitt Romney to stand on the sidelines and say that 500,000 jobs should be created each month. I would be shocked if it occurred to anyone in the media to ask him why his party has repeatedly voted against The American Jobs Act. It seems like a legitimate question to me. But Romney gets to spout this crap without having to respond to GOP obstruction.
The stupid ass media never ask Mitt “the liar” Romney how will he fix it so we are creating 500,000 jobs a months? What will he do? The media ought to be asking these kind of questions, but yet they act like idiots and blame Obama for every darn thing.
We have divided government. But the media pretends that congress does not exist now that the Republicans have the majority in the House. They act like governing and improving the lives of the American people is the sole responsibility of the EXECUTIVE branch. The American people and the media need a lesson in basic government 101.
Is Nate Silver more popular than he should be?

LAS VEGAS, NV— On Monday, May 7, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar will visit the Enbridge Silver State North Solar Project where he will “flip the switch” on the first large-scale solar energy project located on U.S. public lands to deliver power to American consumers.
Located in the Ivanpah Valley south of Las Vegas, the 50-megawatt solar project will use photovoltaic technology to generate enough power for approximately 9,000 Nevada homes. The project, developed by First Solar and owned by Enbridge, employed over 380 construction workers during peak construction.
During his visit, Salazar will meet with senior representatives from Enbridge, First Solar, and NV Energy before participating in the dedication ceremony.
Under Secretary Salazar’s leadership, Interior has authorized 29 large-scale renewable energy projects on public lands, including 16 solar projects that, if built, will provide more than 5,500 megawatts of power to communities across the West. Prior to 2009, Interior had not authorized a single solar project on public lands.

I’m surprised that with all the hand-wringing over the “excessive celebration” from the GOP and media last week, that none of them mentioned the spectacle of the capture of Sadam Hussein. How they opened his mouth and checked for whatever, made a debacle over his hanging, paraded his sons’ bodies and all while waging an illegal war in his country for ten years after declaring “mission accomplished”. Oh, and don’t forget the trial…
Excellent points theo67. Let’s chalk it up to selective amnesia on the part of the feckless media stenographers. The so called journalists in this country would have had to put their thinking caps on to make that comparison.
Egg.sack.lee. It was a disgusting spectacle from the media (everywhere) and the gop. Compare the “we got him” braggadocio with PBO’s measured ‘moment in history’ and his refusal to ‘spike’ the fucking football. The contrast couldn’t be any starker.
Excellent observation, theo.
This. Randi spoke about this very thing the other day.
It should be no surprise to people that Arianna is a Republican. Back when the governator started his campaign against Gray Davis, he had several opponents in the Republican primary, one of whom was Arianna. So, at least then she was a registered Republican in California. I remember watching a roundtable discussion of the Republican candidates. The only two I remember are Arnold and Arianna. I remember that Arnold was very condescending and rude to Arianna, in that “Little woman you’re so cute when you’re angry” tone. Both of them are despicable, to use Arianna’s word. So, when she started the Huffington Post and it was purported to be on the left side of center, I was surprised. However, true colors always come to the forefront.
Yes, the president knows exactly what she’s doing, and is not impressed. She’s so impressed with herself she’s blind.
Her buddy Newt said, that Republicans should infiltrate the Democratic Party.
Hmmmm!
Her ex-husband was a Republican. You know the one who left her because she drove him to be gay. Only Arianna Huff Puff can do something like that.
I’m just kidding about her driving him to be gay.
The sad part is how many people on this side of the aisle that she actually fooled.
and still fooling
Bingo.
friggin’ breitbart ‘helped her’ in setting up huffin’ pufffin’ post ferfucksake.
It seems to me Huffington Post and FOXTV were started in very similar fashion. I watched FOX regularly when it first started because it’s programming was serving under served demograhics: AAs and youth. Think about it, In Living Color, 21 Jump Street, 24 (first story was about a black candidate for president), Roc, Arsenio Hall, The Image Awards,The Simpsons, 90210, Melrose Place, The X Files. The popularity of those early shows launched FOX as a serious contender. While FOX still caters to the youth market, they have little to no black oriented programs anymore because now that they are accepted as a major network they don’t need to provide any niche programming. They used us and moved on.
Arianna saw that the Left was under served, used that to her advantage and now that HuffPo is an established site she can revert back to her reptilian ways. In both cases success was achieved by providing a service no one else was providing. As a result, millions made, mission accomplished.

On Obama and poetry….
Instead, the Obama campaign is prepping for a block-by-block, hard-slog approach. The campaign, which the president kicks off this weekend, will be tailored to swing states and key voters in those states.
That means talking up the revival of manufacturing to persuade jaded blue-collar voters in Ohio to keep the faith. In Virginia it means tapping into the growing suburban vote and using the state’s GOP Legislature and governor as a foil to energize female voters.
“We are running a series of state-specific campaigns even more so than we did in 2008, where each state’s volunteers help drive what is important for them to work on in that state,” campaign manager Jim Messina said.
Campaign advisors, however, emphasize that what voters in Columbus, Ohio, and Richmond, Va., hear from the president in his first two rallies Saturday will not be inconsistent.
“We are not the candidate who reinvents himself from week to week,” said David Axelrod, Obama’s top campaign strategist, in a swipe at Republican contender Mitt Romney. “This is a candidate who has a mission and is going to see it through, and that is to rebuild an economy in which the middle class is thriving.”

http://thinkprogress.org/health/2012/05/04/477881/romney-medicaid-romneycare/
According to a Congressional Budget Office (CBO) analysis of Rep. Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) Medicaid block grant proposal — which is very similar to Romney’s — federal expenditures on the program would be “49 percent lower in 2030 than current projected federal spending.” “[T]he magnitude of the reduction in spending relative to such spending in the other scenarios means that states would need to increase their spending on these programs, make considerable cutbacks in them, or both,” the Office concluded. “Cutbacks might involve reduced eligibility for Medicaid and CHIP, coverage of fewer services, lower payments to providers, or increased costsharing by beneficiaries—all of which would reduce access to care.”
Good night. Ryan doesn’t just want to starve the federal government but state governments as well. That’s crazy. Ryan can fancy himself some kind of Ayn Rand visionary all he wants but the reality is he wants to turn America into a fourth world country.
FROM MEDIA MATTERS: Another classic example of IOKIYAR.
Irony Alert: Daily Caller, Breitbart.com Reportedly Met With Romney To Discuss Campaign Messaging
—————————————
In 2010, The Daily Caller and the Breitbart blogs, along with the rest of the GOP Noise Machine, declared it was shocking that members of the liberal opinion press gathered online to argue, commiserate and organize. That they tried to “protect” Obama during the election and coordinate partisan messages. Indeed, Andrew Breitbart denounced the listserv as “treachery.”
Did we mention that according to reports this week, representatives from Daily Caller and Breitbart.com met with Mitt Romney, in secret, to discuss campaign message coordination? And that they discussed ways the Romney campaign could work closer with the likes of Daily Caller and Breitbart.com to help disseminate opposition research on Obama?
In truth, there’s nothing wrong with campaigns reaching out to online media supporters and doing it on an off-the-record basis. However, it is stunningly hypocritical for Daily Caller and Breitbart bloggers to participate directly in a secret message coordination session with a GOP candidate after having claimed message coordination was akin to treachery.

What a run for Republican Jim Pendergraph. After winning the Observer’s endorsement in his bid for Congress, he has done nothing but embarrass us and himself.
By buddying up to one of America’s more hateful egomaniacs and then joining with fringe “birthers” to question President Obama’s citizenship, Pendergraph has contradicted much of what he told the Observer’s editorial board in his endorsement interview last month. As a result, we have lost faith in him, and urge voters to consider Edwin Peacock or Ric Killian in the 9th Congressional District race.

It is a little difficult to tell precisely from the chart (so my years may be off a tad), but the chart does show an interesting trend.
During the past 72 years, look at who was President during each of these months of 500,000 plus nonfarms job growth:
1940/41 – Roosevelt – Democrat.
1942 – Roosevelt – Democrat.
1945 – Roosevelt/Truman – Democrat.
1949 – Truman – Democrat.
1952 – Truman – Democrat.
1956 – Eisenhower – Republican.
1959 – Eisenhower – Republican.
1978 – Carter – Democrat.
1983 – Reagan – Republican.
1997 – Clinton – Democrat.
2010 – Obama – Democrat.
Democrats = 8.
Republicans = 3.
When the president is a democrat we are almost three times as likely to have 500,000 plus nonfarms job growth in a month than when a republican is president.
Also note that Reagan did no better than Carter at once each, and neither Bush 41 or 43 could do it at all when Clinton and Obama each did.
Isn’t all this interesting, Mitt? I think it is. All this talk about how much better the republicans are at creating job growth is just pure bunk.
