This is a very old photo of Ricky Fowler. He is awesome really, and I don’t even like golf. But, he is what they call The Natural, never had a golf lesson in his life, just won the US Open, remember all the fuss about Atlanta not letting women golf? It was during that nonsense. Anyway, he is a new dad, with a tiny little son. He called nis eife right away. His mother came out onto the course after his winning stroke, and hugged him. He cried like a baby in her arms, it was adorable. He has grown up a lot since this photo, but he has been considered the one to watch for the past several years. I felt really happy for him, and we watched him being awarded his Green Jacket, he was humble and sincere.

                • May 6, 2012 at 9:44 pm

Pamela, as someone who takes only a marginal interest in golf, I confess: I can barely tell Fowler and Watson apart. So, if you’re a Republican so am I.

It sure seems like Rubio is going to be the VP candidate. Romney is not the only etch-a-sketch Repub. Miami Herald did an interview, saying Rubio is in process of rebranding himself——from rt. wing Cuban American politician to center right Hispanic American politician, has auto biography coming out, another biography said to be mostly complimentary. Danced around Romney’s harsh immigration policies, plans to work to get his version of Dream Act passed. There would be plenty of character issues which would arise—-problem with the truth—that again—-and a history of all kinds of financial shiftiness—–living off of campaign contributions, using the Repub Party credit card for personal use, has sleazy friends who are under investigation by FBI and IRS, as he was at one time.

I don’t know .. Sarah overshadowed McCain .. that was the whole point … McCain by himself could not excite the base. He had formerly been seen as a centrist … he was even popular with some Democrats. He needed someone more “right wing” than himself: enter the Right Wing, Ultra Conservative, Pro-Life, very religious, etc. (all lies, may I say) but she excited the base!

For those that don’t know, I’m from Palm Beach County, Florida. I live in a very diverse apartment building which includes many Cubanos originally from Miami after their emigration. They do not trust Rubio and hope to vote him out along with Rick Scott when they are up for re-election. The mention of Jeb’s name brings laughter. Just so you know…

Everyone seems to think Rubio has such promise and that he’s going to be the first Latino president. Please. All the hype surrounding Rubio reminds me of the way they used to talk about that other crooked sleaze ball, Harold Ford. Rubio is a corporate and cultural sellout who is not connected to his people. He’s just like Harold. The establishment and msm love him and declare him special, not the people. There’s a Latino Barack Obama out there right now who’s name most of us don’t know.

Like Harold Ford, Rubio will be forgotten in a few years. He going to lose reelection and then will go work on Wall St. or at some repug think tank. The man is a joke. And a liar, to boot.

    Is Anyone Looking at Congress?
The US Congress has been in session approximately 45 days in four months. We have three equal branches of government. The Congress is the primary third of our government structure. Congress was granted the most power in our Constitution.
So what do they do? They work 3 days on and 4 days off. They take a week off for every holiday and when they are in Washington, what do they do? Stand in front of television cameras and blame the President for everything that is wrong in the country. We the people pay each of these people $165,000 per year (565 of them) to do what? Govern. When are we going to see them govern?

It is extremely unfair to blame all the nation’s ills on the President when the Congress doesn’t do their job. Without the Congress, nothing can get done. The President is constantly criticized for taking two vacations per year with his family, or taking his family with him when he has overseas business or for golfing on the weekend. The President apparently is not allowed any downtime but it is ok for the Congress to work part-time.

When are Americans going to wake up and see this for what it is. We have a do nothing Congress who is squandering their responsibilities to the people of this country. I suggest we throw the bums out and start over. We need people who are dedicated to doing the peoples’ business and working together and with the president to move this country forwar. We should not continue to reward the do nothings by re-electing them. Our country is at a critical juncture where actions need to be taken. We all need to be aware of who our House Representatives and Senators are and what they stand for. Being in Texas I feel we are a lost cause when I see who the people have sent to Congress to represent us. I hold out hope that other states can do better with their choices. Texas for now appears to be a lost cause. The electorate here seems to have lost their way and I don’t see how we change that in the near future.
Those of us who stand with the President and believe that he can move this country forward should also give him some help by sending the right people to congress. The president cannot do it alone.

GOP OBSTRUCTED JOB CREATION AND NOW THEY BLAME PRESIDENT OBAMA FOR SLOW RECOVERY

Robert Gibbs: Romney’s Slogan Is Obama ‘Didn’t Clean Up Our Mess Fast Enough’

      —————————

“I think sometimes you listen to the Romney campaign and they do think a lot people in this country are stupid,” Gibbs told NBC’s David Gregory. “Their message is: You didn’t clean up our mess fast enough.”
      .
      .
Gibbs added: “His economic ideas are the failed economic ideas that we tried for eight years, tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires, and letting Wall Street going back to writing the rules all over again. That is the policies that got us into this mess.”

AT THE ROOT OF EVERY QUESTION question from the White House Press Corps (aka the jackals) or the mainstream media stenographers is some Republican Party complaint or criticism of President Obama. These posts are so great as it fires me up, but makes me sad that I will not be able to attend any rallies or the Inauguration this next time around. You better bet I will be watching everything I possibly can though on this blog and elsewhere and live vicariously through what I see remembering all the highs I experienced in ’08 and ’09. Knee surgery plus four more years and my daughter not living in DC now makes reliving my prior experience not possible. I will never forget the experience though and feel so fortunate to have had it. I will work my tail off to get PBO re-elected as well as turn our Congress blue and keep our Senate blue.

    Evening TOD
First, thanks Chipsticks for posting all those great pics of President Obama and the First Lady *sigh*

I had the opportunity to watch President Obama’s speech in Richmond yesterday…and all can say is WOWWWWW!!,
full disclosure here LOL, I am huge Churchill fan, Pierre Trudeau fan, a lover of political history and speeches…and have seen President Bill Clinton speak in person in Toronto a couple of years ago…but by far I think President Obama is in a league of his own when it comes to giving speeches.

I found myself crying while watching his speech before the Richmond audience yesterday, and I live Canada LOL. And its because I was just in awe by his brilliance, guts and integrity…LoL, so when I saw CNN’s Jessica Yellin give her first report starting with crowd size(she looked down on the ground when she mention crowded size too, lol), my first thought was WOW that is your analysis; how dumb? followed by pity, because what else is she going to talk about? Afterall it must be surreal for her too to see a President in her lifetime with conviction; a President, talking about wanting equal opportunities for women in the workplace and women controlling their own healthcare…instead of covering and listening to Presidential candidates talking about “trees being the right height”

President Obama is a once in a lifetime Leader, and America you are bless to have him and the First Lady.

Thanks TOD for allowing this fan to keep posting here.

President Barack Obama has called France’s new president-elect to congratulate him on winning Sunday’s election.

The White House says Obama told Francois Hollande that he looks forward to working with him on a range of shared economic and security challenges.

Obama invited Hollande to visit the White House before this month’s G-8 summit at Camp David, Md. Hollande is also expected to attend the NATO summit in Chicago later this month.

Hollande, a Socialist, defeated conservative incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy to win France’s presidency. Hollande promised help for France’s downtrodden after years under Sarkozy, a man many voters saw as too friendly with the rich and blamed for France’s economic troubles.

Hollande inherits an economy that’s a driver of the European Union but is deep in debt.

I was chatting with my daughter who is in France this evening. She said in the first round of voting the turn-out was more like 85%! She also said that Sarkozy gave a very gracious concession speech. This is what she had to say: “even the tv commentators — even the officials of Sarkozy’s own party — were surprised at how collected and respectful and gracious his concession speech was. At one point, his supporters booed when he said something about Hollande winning (something neutral) and he responded by saying, basically — look, he may not think the same things we do, but he loves the country, and the office he’s going to hold deserves all our respect and support. I think Sarkozy actually said at one point (in response to the booing of Hollande) that he would hope that his supporters would show europe an example of a united France supporting its government, not a France split by partisan squabbles” And Sarkozy pretty much saying what he thinks and not holding back.

Then the speech Hollande gave was good too. Again, my daughter: “and then Hollande, when HIS supporters booed a mention of Sarkozy during the victory speech he basically said — the guy had a really hard job, and he did what he thought was right, and he deserves our respect. So, on both sides, very very gracious”

Maybe they have learned from what they see going on over here. Both seem to genuinely want to move France forward and act for the good of the country.

    BRACKETING BY MITTFLOP:

This would be a truly humiliating job Mitt assigns these poor soles to do. From http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/obama-launches-2nd-term-bid-at-boisterous-va-rally-calls-romney-rubber-stamp-of-house-gop/2012/05/05/gIQAUgLU4T_story.html

Sitting quietly on the bottom row of bleachers at Obama’s rally was regional Romney campaign spokeswoman Amanda Henneberg and Pete Snyder, director of the Republican coordinated campaign. Henneberg dismissed the standing-room-only crowd as being comprised in party by “people who just want to see a president.”

“We were hoping to hear him take responsibility for his failed record,” Henneberg said.

Instead, she listened to Obama flay Romney in a 36-minute speech, and an audience that delighted in every word.

    • May 6, 2012 at 10:12 pm

it’s such a sad thing on the first day of practicum when you can easily tell which students are gonna make the cut, and which students just don’t have it in them. I foresee the Willbot getting a big fat # FAIL, at the end of this election. Some people have it, some people don’t.
As the Willbot would say to a bunch of disadvantaged people:

I just listened to it. You guys are so off, it’s funny! I watch Charles and Kenny “the Jet” Smith (his sidekick) regularly during the playoffs, so I can tell you that, first, it’s not Charles who actually says the sentence in question, it’s Kenny. Kenny is riffing off of Charles, who says (paraphrasing), “don’t have kids, man…you look like a damn idiot!” He’s talking about the guy in full pimp regalia. Kenny sticks up for the pimp by saying, “he’s dressed like a fan.” Meaning, leave him alone, he’s just dressed up for the game, he’s just being a fan. FAN, not FAG! LMAO.

It’s just give and take between these guys at the pimp/fan’s expense.

    • 193 EricFive
      May 6, 2012 at 10:27 pm

I’m almost certain that it is Kenny repeating “he’s dressed like a fan”. That was not Charles’ voice. Kenny said “he’s dressed like a fan” twice, you mistook his voice for Charles’.

An ABC Blog says that President Obama is running not only against Mitt Romney, but himself from 2008. WTF is wrong with theses idiots?
The blog clearly states that the Romney campaign wants the focus on “empty seats” at campaign events, and guess what; Jake Tapper was all too ready to carry their water questioning Axelrod today about the empty seats. The article goes on to say the President is running against “himself and an anemic recovery.” I have lit them up on twitter. I hate the media. They want this to be a horse race. They are going to do all that they can do to help Mitt Romney. It is quite pathetic. Axelrod nicely pointed out to Tapper that their 14k crowd was more than Mitt has ever had at “any event” at any time while pointing out the overflow crowd at VCU. Tapper didn’t ask about that because it did not fit their lame narrative. I refuse to let these disgusting pundits get away with their lies.

    • 210 EricFive
      May 6, 2012 at 10:48 pm

It is just what I was saying yesterday, this “empty seats” meme is a media creation to transfer Mitt’s lack of crowd appeal onto PBO. It is a truly stupid narrative for Mitt/MSM to peddle, because it will only bring unwanted scrutiny to Mitt’s sparsley populated events, but Mitt is desperate and seems to be satisfied waging a “one news cycle at a time” campaign strategy. He and the MSM are content to just throw stupid, random shit against the wall to see if anything “sticks”. This “empty seats” bs maybe the product of Mitt’s meeting with the media last week b/c it is all too coordinated, with MSM running with the nonstory (while conveniently ignoring the overflow crowd at the Virginia rally, as well as the 14,000 who packed the Ohio rally). I refuse to view the world through the anti-Obama lense the MSM/GOP is shoving down our throats.

      • 211 Obama Grandmama
        May 7, 2012 at 11:02 am

In 2008 the press was talking about Barack Obama getting huge crowds because he was a celebrity. Also that they wouldn’t vote for him. They covered up McCain not having large crowds by never showing the audience, but you could still tell from how close the people behind him were as compared to Obama. I always thought it was crazy they were so even as the polls said when one had so many more in attendance than the other. The thing is WE cannot become complacent. We need to work hard to get the vote turned out for PBO. All of the voter suppression laws passed will cut many of his votes out as they were intended to do.

The French do know how to party and love to do it. Six years ago my husband and I went to Paris for our 40th anniversary…..the French rugby team was having a bachelor party for their captain where we were eating…..they were singing and drinking and getting ready to eat…singing, singing, singing, one of them came into the restaurant, saw us and sang to us while waving his drink, had me taste it…..it was something cloudy yellow…but he was funny and fun. They partied into the night.
Another time we were in London and the French rugby team came for their match with England…..you can imagine the competition. The French team stayed at our hotel……they partied and sang, and sang and sang. That’s what I think of when I think of French partying….singing! They were singing on that video clip up thread too.
I hope this is a good result election. Wish we could get the high percentage to vote that they do!!! Romney better not talk about his love of France now that they have a socialist president!!!

So, exactly what is Ron Paul doing to the convention? If he has the delegates, and Romney doesn’t….then does he use the as bargaining chips, or does he go for the nomination….this whole Republican contest is getting weirder and weirder. I do remember four years ago the Obama campaign kept careful count of delegates, not just states won. They worked the details, is this what Ron Paul is doing, while Mitt is coasting?

    • May 6, 2012 at 11:36 pm

In a word, “yes.” At least, that was my understanding from a segment Rachel did last week. I also remember couple months ago when she had on a spokesman for Paul, this is exactly what he talked about, stressed and flat out said, getting/winning delegates was their focus and plan.

      • 279 aquagranny911
        May 7, 2012 at 12:19 am

…..and….”Jesus Wept”….If Ron Paul turns out to have more delegates than the Mittster I will need a case of Depends. If Mitty has to give Ron Paul VP to get his delegates….no more words…..

Not going to happen, Kochsters will give old Ronnie….an offer he can’t refuse….or maybe he will become “refuse”

sherijr–sometimes that buying and selling stuff happens fast. We had worked ourselves to death redoing an old farmhouse near Seattle. I got to the point that I hated the place. We finished last of the work on a Tues., listed it Wed. and sold it for our asking price on Friday–moved out of there 2 weeks later–God’s will I guess. He knew I needed to get out of there. Found our great retirement house, with room for the grandson, a short time later. Will never move again!

The weekend’s turn of events – in a state neighboring one where Romney served as governor – would indicate the GOP has not yet united behind the presumptive nominee, and there are indications the infighting may last all the way to the national convention.

Paul supporters accused the Romney crowd Saturday of dirty tricks to garner more delegates. “We came here to see democracy in action. We are floored by what happened, absolutely floored to see the cheating,” said Elizabeth Shardlow of Auburn, a Paul activist.

Charles Cragin, a Romney supporter who lost Saturday’s bid to chair the convention, called the turn of events at the Maine convention “bizarre.” Cragin said the Paul-led delegation may not be recognized at the national convention because of violations of rules of procedure this weekend in Augusta.

      fun time are ahead.
