BBC: Socialist Francois Hollande has been elected as France’s new president.
He got about 52% of votes in Sunday’s run-off, according to early projections, against 48% for centre-right incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy.
Mr Sarkozy has admitted defeat, saying: “Francois Hollande is the president of France and he must be respected.”
Analysts say the vote has wide implications for the whole eurozone. Mr Hollande has vowed to rework a deal on government debt in member countries.
Sarkozy can take his anti-Muslim bile and shove it right up his ass
A socialist like Obama!!..lol
This is good news, for days all they talked about was the wacky right winger.
Nice write up and video from Politicususa about Robert De Niro’s defense of PBO to David Gregory on Meet The Press.
Nice!, and by the way the The Sunday Talking heads shows the all the their own fucking Narrative
from FOX ( Spiking The Ball) about OBL really? blaming PBO using to do just that WOOOW!!
Let’s Fucking remaind thise assholes who really was spiking the ball, shall we. GW went on the USA carrier
and claimed Mission Accomplished, whe in fact it was the oppositte, and using it for his re-election.
But, But when PBO Accomplished what he primised the Country by saying if he knew wher OBL was he will
capture him or killed him and he do exsacly that this is part of his accomplisments while in office, and NOW
the GOP are traying very hard to spin their BS, and the American people are not buying their BS we all know
what really happened under GWB so to the Fucking MSM and the GOP get over it PBO WON 4 more years.
Good news indeed for the people on France. #obama2012
The World does not want austerity…..Now….get rid of Cameron too.
Cameron won’t last much longer. The midterms are evidence of that.
Finally, you’ve surfaced. I presume you’ve been stupendously drunk since our Chelsea boys won the FA Cup Final.
LOL. Yes, I have. I was out ALL DAY yesterday, but not before watching Chels win the Cup! A friend and I went downtown for lunch and the Mike D. curated exhibit at MOCA, and then we went to the Greek Theatre for a Cinco de Mayo concert with Los Lobos. And X was the opening act! So I was gone from12 to 11 pm.
Now onto Munchen! Go Chelsea! Vive Hollande! Go Obama!!
Chelsea in the same sentence as Hollande and Obama?
All 3 are the future!
I bloody well hope only two of them are.
Is there an anti-austerity candidate on the horizon in the U.K.?
The Labour Party leader Ed Miliband is pretty much anti-austerity, under his leadership the party is beginning to regain its left wing soul after Blair destroyed it. I’m still struggling to take him seriously, though, but I think he’s a good man.
How do his chances look and why are you struggling to take him seriously?
Well, Labour swept the local elections this week. That’s a signal that the UK electorate is ready to dump the Tories and LibDems.
Pretty much Milliband and Labour are against austerity. And, more to the point, it seems as if the voters are against it as well.
I understand about England and the the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, but I wonder how this will play out with the people of England given the fact that they are back in recession and Cameron has doubled down on austerity measures? I mean I respect the English culture and all, but it seems to me that the Jubilee is their version on “Let them eat cake.” I don’t think something that tone deaf would happen here because rioting would be the very least of what the American people would do. Is there something about the jubilee I don’t know? Aside from giving tourists the spectacle they want to see, will it boost their economy somehow? Do the record number of tourists who usually go to England increase because of the jubilee so that whatever is spent on putting the extravaganza together is recovered through tourism and tourist spending?
It’s tradition, and no monarch has had a Diamond Jubilee since Victoria. I think most Brits will see it as a welcomed distraction, just like the Olympics.
Hi, LL. Both the Jubilee and the Olympics will pull money into the country, so I think Cameron will be praying that it will mitigate the recession somewhat. Cameron’s big problem next week will be the Leveson hearings and what might come out re Rupert Murdoch. This is the week the pols start testifying and/or lying as the case may be.
That is so true LL. Although I am not really a monarchist I think the Diamond Jubilee in some ways will bring people together, and yes it will be a distraction from all the difficulties we as a country are facing. Sam UK.
There are a lot of people against austerity here in the UK it is destroying any chance of recovery and possibly plunging us back into a double dip recession. Although I have voted Lib Dem all my life I am wavering at the moment. Labour seem to be offering better policies for growth. Austerity does not work during times of week economic growth or during a recession. I have been comparing the differences between the USA and UK over the past year and a half since we began austerity measures and PBO has concentrated on stimulating the economy. I believe the results speak for themselves as the US unemployment has decreased and ours has increased, growth in the US increasing and ours is contracting. I realize that this is an over simplified overview of our respective economies but it is just a small contrast between stimulus and austerity.
meant to sign off above post. Sam UK
Indeed, Cameron has been fighting for his political life for quite some time now. Things are not falling in line for him. His planned reform of their health care was intensely unpopular (did he ever get it through?) He seems to be tainted by Murdock’s enterprise. And Britain has just fallen back into recession. Now he is holding out for the Olympics to rescue him. And a foreign affairs undersecretary had the audacity to proclaim that that the election of Hollande would be something akin to the end of the world for Europe.
Wonder if Romney loves France now??? Congratulations, France!
Mitt Romney has been quick to criticise Barack Obama for his frequent vacations to exotic destinations.
But he is not immune to the charms of a trip abroad, as he showed today when reminiscing about past holidays in Paris.
Mr Romney’s love of France is no secret, but he could do well to avoid bringing it up too often, as the Republican base holds little affection for the left-leaning European nation which looks set to elect a Socialist president.
WITH A VIDEO!!!!
I’ve always hated this silly nontroversy. The First Family spends Christmas with his sister. What a scandal.
When they have nothing, they just invent things to be “outraged” about
What exotic locations are these? His home state? With his family? Does Romney know that Hawaiians are as American as he is and vote for president? Does he just like alienating a whole state full of millions of people for fun? Sometimes the level of stupid is just jaw-dropping.
What are these “exotic places” our President vacations at? I always thought Hawaii was a state. Unless we are talking about North Carolina or Camp David. It is all getting very tiresome, especially since Willard is busy building his “Western White House” in anticipation of winning the election
Huge congrats to France~ Well Done
Ahhh….Chips. France has gone socialist now so you have to say “Sarkozy can take his anti-Muslim bile and shove it right up his ass” in French. Don’t you like making rightwingers experience explosive diarrhea?
Sarkozy peut prendre sa bile anti-musulman et le pousser jusque’ a son âne
There we go……now we’re all French loving socialists.
Okay UT, I used Google Translate:
‘Sarkozy peut prendre sa bile anti-musulman et le pousser jusqu’à son âne”
I fear that means: “I am a cucumber and I live on Jupiter.”
“I am a cucumber and I live on Jupiter.” Oh dear Chips, I think that’s exactly what it means!
Uh oh, as I feared Joan
UT, I bow to you and your language skills.
hello everyone. Can anyone tel me how Chips really feels about Sarkozy??…lol. I’m just waiting to see how the braniacs within the Republican party try to explain this.
Yeah, we were all supposed to buy the garbage that the whole world was turning right and the US had better get in line. France just put a very large spoke in that particular fantasy.
CONGRATULATIONS FRANCE….MOVING ‘FORWARD!’
Ireland has a Referendum coming up for a vote on the EU Fiscal Union. If Hollande intends to rework this Fiscal Union, the Referendum should be postponed. Sadly Kenny may not be inclined to do it, to his loss. Stay tuned.
It’s an interesting one, OSG. Opponents of the Fiscal Treaty in Ireland – mainly pro-stimulus, anti-austerity people – have been calling for a postponement of the referendum (May 31) in the event of an Hollande win, so now we have it. We’ll see. But Kenny is so utterly pathetic (he just takes his orders from Merkel – whose party is much closer to his politically than Hollande’s) he’ll probably await her directions.
Isn’t it a shame – Kenny started out with the country pretty well supporting him and he is such a let-down. Noonan just blew his support. Reilly isn’t doing well in health. And Hogan, OMG! I am hoping this government falls soon or gets so scared, it starts doing the right things.
They’re abysmal OSG, I never had any hope at all for Kenny, to be honest, I just think he’s a dick, but I honestly thought the Govt would be decent enough – instead they’re just friggin’ Merkel poodles. Hogan is a sewer rat, and that’s being kind.
If you can think up something more disgusting than a sewer rat, Hogan will be closer to that. The corruption stays and stays and never goes away.
Lucky granny! You actually live in Ireland?
Yes, Joan, I have dual citizenship and right now I actually live in Ireland. Ever try to keep up on the politics of 2 countries?
Oh crikey OSG, I never knew that! Although I’m always very unrevealing about my location-information ….. I might just be a neighbor of yours for some of the year! What part of Ireland are you in?
Chips, If you are not a long way from Tipperary, you are going to be very close. Can you pull my real e-mail up. If so, write please.
Will email you OSG
re: The Repug Party and Projection Politics
Projection is a defense mechanism by which an individual denies certain thoughts, feelings and emotions within themselves and instead ascribes it to someone else. That’s the psychological definition. The political definition leads to Democrats and Republicans. If you are like me, you realize the more you watch the Repukes, the more eye-opening and stupid this line we’ve been walking for over 50 years has been. Think about it. What are some of the typical talking points Repukes use against Dems?
–Fiscally Irresponsible aka Tax and Spend
– Can’t Keep us safe/Bad on Defense
– Doesn’t respect the Constitution and Individual rights.
– Fill In The Blank
Now take a good look at a few of the things I’ve listed. What stands out to you? For me, it’s the fact that all the things repukes use to describe dems, are the things that repukes do themselves:
1) Big Government: seriously? Voter Suppression laws, wire taps, union busting, need I go on?
2) Fiscally Irresponsible: now this is just laughable. Are you kidding me? In the last 50 years alone, it’s always been the Democratic presidents who’ve had to clean up the messes of the Repukes before them. The repukes run up the bills and leave the dems to pay the tab. They are the ones who add to the deficit and then lie and cheat by not putting all that spending on the books, we don’t have to look any further than W and PBO.
3) Now usually, I wouldn’t hit W below the belt like this because he’s been out of my life for almost 4 years now and while he couldn’t do it while he was in office for 2 terms, he’s now comporting himself with a modicum of decency. However, I can’t rewrite history, so I’ll forget the noun, the verb and just say 9/11…………… and then Iraq and Afghanistan………… and a Trillion dollars and thousands of American lives, some of whom never made it to age 20.
4) Constitution/ Individual Rights: do I even have to make a comment here?……… I know I don’t, but I will anyway. Three words: Governor Vaginal Probe………….. not enough?…………. A woman’s right to choose………….. Still not enough? How about one word? Contraceptives.
So these are just a few examples of what Dr. Eric Dyson called “projection politics.” What’s amazing to me is just how stupid the republican voters are. It’s like they completely ignored the mess W. was making while he was making it, but as PBO is cleaning it up, they are yelling that he is the reason for the mess. How stupid are they? And you know, I think it’s a matter of SES and education. Rich repukes are repukes because they know the ideology makes them richer. I absolutely DO NOT think they vote repug for any other reason. Screw the constitution, screw “small government,” I don’t think that’s what it’s about for them. Now poor and middle class repukes, I believe, latch on to the Repuke party, partly out of nostalgia/tradition because of what the party used to be and partly because of what the party says it’s for: small gov = “keep your filthy hands off my money= “read my lips, no new taxes” and defense i.e.: the Revolution and the Civil War, and every other war Repug voters thought they needed to be apart of or thought they won.
The big problem is that most repugs don’t get that the thoughts i.e.: small government, fiscal responsibility, constitution, don’t match up with the actions i.e.: voter suppression, union busting, trampling on the rights of women, etc. Where the hell is the cognitive dissonance? I mean seriously? It’s been a long time since the Repuke party has worked for anyone, including repug voters. When the hell are they gonna wake up? Washington Repukes and the repukes in state legislatures around the country don’t give a flying fig about the repug voters. They never have and they never will. Repug voters are just pawns who are used then cast aside till needed again. And the thing that really gets me is that, it’s not like Repukes in government try to hide the fact that they have a severe distaste for the repug voters. And yet, voters continue to reward them.
Something has to give. The voters have to wake up one way or another. Stupidity only gets you screwed and repug voters along with other Americans have been screwed a lot and royally over the last 50 or so years.
I love this. If anyone needs more examples…all one need do is look at Arizona. Ask your boss’ permission for contraceptives? Fear the “other”? SB1070 Strip funding for education, public workers…and oh, raid the mortgage relief meant for homeowners to “balance” the budget. So much more to choose from…WAKE UP, AMERICA!!!
“I wonder how many times you have to be hit on the head before you find out who’s hitting you? It’s about time that the people of America realized what the Republicans have been doing to them.”
Give ‘em hell, Harry!
Truer words have never been spoken.
President Truman said, I don’t give them hell; I just tell them the truth and they THINK it’s hell!
Spot on. The biggest problem, to me, is the media, talking heads, and pundits peddling new books.
that’s so true. they have no core. They just exploit a bad situation and make it worse. bastards.
yanno…every other day…someone has a book out…Oooooooooo weeeeeee
Excellent news for France and Europe.
Taking it to those who must not ever think they are not transparent in their vile #NEWSTAINER bias for American extremist plutocrats (aka #KOCHSTERS) ….

Yes!!! That was an awful, cowardly act.
Hey, good day, JO’B. PBO is making their head spin. HA!
Good day, meta. Yes, it’s mind-boggling for us and head-spinning for them! HA!
PBO: don’t you dare get in our way!
This is a “just-the-facts” diary, but the facts are uber-useful to us:
Six months later, a lot of pages have peeled off that calendar, we’ve made a lot of progress — and we’re just getting warmed up.
As we head into the last six months before Election Day, there are important dates and events coming up that you should know about, and we’re rolling out new features and improved content. You can sync it to your Google or Outlook account to keep it handy — so download the new calendar now.
These next six months will bring new challenges and opportunities for this campaign. And with an organization built by thousands of grassroots supporters organizing in local communities, it’s important we’re all on the same page. The updated calendar will bring you the latest info. Here are just a few of the new features we’ve added:
— Updated voter registration and early voting deadlines and reminders, so you can be sure not to miss out
— New milestones and accomplishments from the campaign and the last three years
— Events, volunteer opportunities, and program launches in states across the country
— A brand new video
Beyond the nitty-gritty details, the calendar will continue to highlight the big picture — where our organizing stands overall, where we are in the campaign, and how all our work ties into the larger whole.
We’re building on our foundation, forming new neighborhood teams and opening new offices. With the general election effectively underway, we’re ramping up our outreach efforts to make sure we keep growing. To win in November, it’s going to take all of us working together.
Download the calendar today, and don’t miss a beat of the campaign’s last six months:
National Field Director
Obama for America
Just downloaded it. I love this calendar and glad to see they have a new version.
I do too meta.
Lawrence Summers is doing a great takedown of former Reagan tax guy on C-SPAN One. The discussion is about taxes, fairness, and reform and Summers has been very enlightening. Talks about capital gains taxes being increased, that a guy who works or has worked in private equity (hint – Mitt Romney) shouldn’t say he was earning income and then turn around and report it as capital gains on his tax form and then get lower tax rates. Talks about closing tax loopholes that allow rich people (hint – Romney) who give their children hundreds of millions and call it a trust fund so they don’t have to pay taxes. Talks about raising tax rates on the wealthy because government needs revenue not just spending cuts. There should be a balance. The Reagan guy is all taxes are bad, raising taxes is bad, having higher capital gains taxes is bad. Yadi yada yada.
Summers is really good. One learns a lot about taxes, marginal rates, tax reform, capital gains, expenditures etc. by listening to him.
Oh. You mean THIS! It’s all in here
Ha ha ha, bye bye sarkorzy. You were spewing RW bigotry about immigrants and Muslims, now who has had the last good laugh. Now, enough already with the austerity crap.
Can someone kindly give me Chipsticks email address………..thanks

Congrats on 1st, Chips! Wish I could post a pretty image for ya!
Thank you jacquelineoboomer! I’ll award myself a pic:
Awwww he’s such a daddy.
So very sweet. I feel like a nap, myself, after seeing that.
Slick fingered one:)
OT guys, but I just had to share this news.
So okay, I have 2 jobs currently both in Microbiology, one FT, one PRN. My FT job is at THE major public hospital in DFW and I’ve had it for almost 7 years. My current job has become almost a struggle to get up and go to in the morning. It’s a least a 20-30 minute drive, I’m trained on every “bench” in the lab, but I never get to do more than 1 a month (I swear on some “benches”, I haven’t worked in over a YEAR!) and aside from some of my co-workers (including my LGBFF, that’s Latino Gay BFF, and some of the older ladies who remind me of my mom and aunt), I really dread going to work. My PRN job is at a private hospital (i.e. rich folk ya’ll), is a smaller group of people (In Micro alone, there is only 2 FT employees and one of those included the supervisors), and there is a better chance of being on a different bench if not daily, then weekly. Also, the pace is alot less hectic, the people are alot more nicer (although I doubt I’ll be as friendly as I am with some of the people at my FT JOB) and the hospital environment is way cooler and calmer than my FT.
So anyway, I only work 2 weekends a month at my PRN. I’ve been there for a year and it was time for my evaluation. I went to the Lab Mgr office (who is way nicer than my FT Mgr who is basically a bitch to work with) and she went over my evaluation (which was STELLAR of course). At the end, she asked if I had any goals for the next year and i told her some BS about learning to do more of the “bench” work here than I do now and then…she dropped this big idea in my lap.
Basically, she asked me if I would consider a position in Micro working on/off (7 days or 4 days, 10hr or 12hr, whichever I prefer, she basically said I could think about what my “dream schedule” would be and that they would be negotiable). So she all but basically offered me this position, even though she is aware that I have been thinking about moving back to NOLA. She said if I didn’t really have a timeframe for moving back to NOLA (which I don’t, it’s been hard finding position in Micro that pay well, I’m basically waiting til they re-build the medical center which won’t happend until least 2013!), then I could work the on/off schedule IN MICRO and still have PTO and that way I have at least 3 days/7days of free time and of course I could use it to go home to NOLA practically ANY TIME I WANT!!! So I’d be able to still make the money that I’m currently making here in DFW and still be able to go home to NOLA more often!!!!
It’s almost perfect!!!! I told her that since I would be working next weekend, I would like to take this week and think about it and I would have a decision by the end of the week!
OMG, ya’ll, I am smiling and a bit too happy right now, because if I can get this to work out, it is literally THE BEST OF BOTH worlds. I love the life I have here in DFW (friends and what not) but I really miss not being able to see my family more often, and with this possible soilution, it just seems like to sweet a deal. So I’m on little high right now and I need to settle down and think about this but…It’s amazing how God can just make a way right
I hope that this is what you want….go for it.
Sometimes life has a way of working things out for the better That’s such wonderful news!! The quandary of a week ago seems so different now….
For those non medical persons here…PRN means: As needed
As the song says: “God will make a way when there seems to be no way.” Congrats and happy for you!!!
This is wonderful. Do not be afraid to reach for what you want. This sounds like a wonderful opportunity; congratulations.
lamh, I know this is what has been coming for a long time, you have shared a lot of your inner views with us. I think it is marvelous, and especially as it affords you TIME! Time to stretch, time to be off-schedule, time to work on what you DO want next. I know you have done the right thing, asking for time to consider it, and I know you will make the correct assessment on finding your own way forward! Congratulations, what a lovely surprise to have laid before you. Yes, God has the most marvelous way of making it happen our needs!
(lost control of that last sentence! Someone came into the room needing my help with frozen yoghurt! Kinda jumped up and hit send! But you know what I mean, well, God knows what I mean! ) yes, I am back at work today, so so so so needed another day or two, but hey, I’m blessed with work I love!
lamh 35, good for you. This possibility would not have come to you with your own hard work and dedication. It’s great news.
Congrats to you, lamh.. wonderful news!
“A conservative is someone who makes no changes and consults his grandmother when in doubt.”
Ouch!! Woodrow Wilson with the backhand-forehand smackdown. I bet he did the dougie after he said it.
When will David Gregory of Meet The Republicans have his hard hitting interview with Mitt “Rubber Stamp” Romney? So far Romney has been conducting his campaign at arms length through op-eds and canned speeches (filled with lies and distortions) where he can spew his swill without being challenged. For someone who thinks he is qualified to be the leader of the free world it really is astonishing that widdle Mitt Romney is afraid of unscripted press conferences with reporters and television interviews with “real” journalists. And on the rare occasions when he is interviewed or he is responding to some issue in the news while walking around and campaigning, he never has the facts right. He just makes stuff up. A presidential candidate should be able to keep a few “facts” in his/her head. At this point the constant lying is just expected. Mitt Romney is the Jon Lovitz presidential candidate. That’s the ticket.
Dave Gregory? Hard hitting interview? That’s an oxymoron.
I guess he is channeling his inner Sarah Palin. He is now speaking through Fox. I would prefer Chris Matthews over David Gregory. David Gregory is not going to challenge Willard on any lies.
*Meet The Republicans*
Well, if he’s going to be interviewed by a real journalist that disqualifies David Gregory. I’ll bet there are some HS or college newspaper reporters that could stump Romney.
The GOP is hard at work training Myth, trying to force feed him information and technique, remember someone’s extremely lousy pick for VP, it’s like that, but worse, as this one is going for the presidency, not just VP.
Jon Ralston @RalstonFlash
BREAKING: Paul supporters take 22 of 25 available national delegate slots for Nevada. (Romney won caucus in landslide). #nvgop #RNCpanic
Don’t forget THIS, too!
Trouble for Romney all around:)
Paul supporters took the majority of delegates in Iowa too. Hmmmmmm.
I think I remember Rachel doing a short segment last week on this. In short, if I remember correctly, Paul is raking in a good number of delegates. This was their plan all along.
that’s his ammunition. he knows he won’t be the nominee but gathering all those delegates makes him pretty powerful. He wants something from Willard and I believe he aims to get it.
Are we going to be seeing Rand Paul for Rombot’s VP? Or a promise of Secretary of State?
who knows, but there is definitely something afoot.
Also in Minnesota…
Linda, how is this possible? How can you win in a landslide and only get 3 national delegates?
“But what do you call a Republican Congress with two perfectly good legs

The apparent defeat of Sarkozy in France says much about patience with austerity, and may complicate U.S. efforts on #Iran and #Syria— West Wing Reports (@WestWingReport) May 6, 2012
“The apparent defeat of Sarkozy in France says much about patience with austerity”
What does that even mean?!
I assume they mean impatience with austerity??
Yes:) Time’s up!
The perils of 140 characters.
Patience/impatience…I was actually more interested in the comments about Syria and Iran. I would definitely love to find more commentary about the new Prez. positions on foreign policy. PBO needs all the allies he can get in dealing with these 2 especially delicate areas.
I think it’s safe to say that European governments, of whatever political stripe, are multilateralists. So, they fall in with PBO’s own inclinations.
HA! How about 2 families in every car ELEVATOR???
“Herbert Hoover once ran on the slogan, “Two cars in every garage”. Apparently, the Republican candidate this year is running on the slogan, “Two families in every garage”.”

More election news: 2/3′s of Greeks have voted for anti-austerity parties!
When do these newly elected guys take office?
Well, that’s the thing. The conservatives won the most votes, so they get the first shot at forming a government. But since most of the new parliament will be anti-austerity, it’s doubtful that they’ll be able to form a government. The Socialists will participate in a government only if it includes all the parties that made it into parliament. So we might be looking at new elections in a few weeks.
Madness. Thanks, LL
from Stephanie Cutter on Romney/Bain issues.
Romney’s Economic Record: Profit at Any Cost.
Haven’t read this whole thing yet, but I do know that I LOVE Stephanie..she doesn’t take prisoners, and she definitely doesn’t mince words!
From the sited piece above:
The New York Times observed that the Republicans’ economic ideas “not only are inadequate for
[reviving the economy] but were instrumental in creating the nation’s current economic
problems.” Mitt Romney’s record and proposals exemplify this more than most. With the
devastation he left in his wake, Romney’s business record doesn’t reflect the virtues of free
enterprise so much as the worst exploitation of it.
Our economic crisis and endemic income inequality were caused in large part by a few who put
profits over people. Taking advantage of an uneven playing field, where there was one rulebook
for those at the top and another for everyone else, Mitt Romney and his friends made money
hand over fist while working families lost their grip on the middle-class lifestyle they earned.
Between now and November the American people will decide whether to respond to this crisis
by electing a corporate raider who profited from – and promises to restore – the conditions that
caused it, or re-electing a President fighting to level the playing field for American businesses,
restore fairness for consumers and help the middle class reclaim a sense of economic security
that will benefit the entire economy. That’s what’s on trial, not “free enterprise.”
Yemeni Al-Qaeda leader Fahd al-Quso who was wanted in connection with the 2000 bombing of the USS Cole has been killed in an air raid in eastern Yemen on Sunday, a tribal chief told AFP.
Al-Qaeda, which has strongholds in southern and eastern Yemen, confirmed the slaying of Quso in an sms text message sent to reporters which could not be immediately verified.
“Fahd al-Quso, who was wanted by the United States for the attack against the USS Cole, was killed tonight (Sunday) in an American raid on the Rafadh region” in the Shabwa province, said tribal chief Abdel Magid bin Farid al-Awlaki. http://news.yahoo.com/man-wanted-uss-cole-bombing-killed-yemen-tribal-184942514.html
I think this will be one of the first election years that the Republicans cannot run on the perception of being “tougher” on terror. They don’t have a leg to stand on. President Obama is fulfilling his promises each and every day.
PBO has meticulously taken all issues from them that they claimed to have market cornered on. Even their pseudo family values is no longer theirs. PBO and FLOTUS are the real deal.
Just finished watching POTUS in Ohio…
he was ON FIRE…
he truly is an absolutely fabulous candidate.
and Willard is so lacking….(yes, I’m being generous)
found this at Balloon Juice in the comments:
David Koch Says:
Another one bites the dust.
Obama kills terrorist behind USS Cole bombing.
Obama is like Michael Corleone, settling family business, one by one. Can’t wait until he has Hyman Roth (Rupert Murdoch) “met at the airport”
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!! That’s perfect.
Am I to understand that Feinstein went on CNN and said the Taliban are now stronger?
Another Democrat undercutting the Presidents message?
They are stronger…..they are running almost all the provinces, sans 2 or 3.
The Taliban are running almost all the Provinces???
Are you nuts?
The Taliban are tribal leaders not Al Queda.
According to Peter Bergen….yes…they are the shadow government in most of the provinces.
Which is why the United States isn’t just abandoning Afghanistan entirely, like so many childish emoprogs ‘want’.
You know, it would be so nice to be able to have a substantive debate and discussion about the best way forward in Afghanistan, where people of differing approaches could at least hear each other and honestly want what’s best for the U.S. and the world. Thanks to Newt Gingrich, who destroyed political discourse amongst the parties, we can no longer have a decent discussion. Instead we all have to instinctively defend our ‘side’ because it’s all about political power. It’s just sad.
That’s exactly what she did. I can’t believe the dems sometime.
I can’t wait for the foreign policy debate and how Barack Obama is bad for foreign policy because……………..??? Shit…..
Biden was absolutely brilliant on this today on MTP, abut what PBO has repaired for us in the world.
Duh, ’cause it is Mittens’s turn and stuff. He has been practicing knowing the difference between all the different -stans and things.
Murdoch’s Pride Is America’s Poison
By BILL KELLER – Published: May 5, 2012
And yet I would argue that — at least for Americans — Fox News is Murdoch’s most toxic legacy.
My gripe against Fox is not that it is conservative. The channel’s pulpit-pounding pundits, with the exception of the avuncular Mike Huckabee, are too shrill for my taste, but they are not masquerading as impartial newsmen. Nor am I indignant that Fox News is the cultural home of the Republican Party and a nonstop Obama roast. Partisan journalism, while not my thing, has a long tradition. Though I do wonder if the folks at Fox appreciate that this genre is more European than American.
My complaint is that Fox pretends very hard to be something it is not, and in the process contributes to the corrosive cynicism that has polarized our public discourse.
From Sarkozy’s concession speech: “We will never be like the ones who fought us; WE love our country.” Asshat.
Talk to the hand, asswipe. I hope the French people party in the streets….

The Massachusetts Senate is preparing to release a health care financing bill just days after House leaders unveiled their version of the bill.
House leaders said Friday that their bill will lower family premiums by nearly $2,000 annually over the next five years by cutting waste and inefficiency out of the health care system.
The House bill is also designed to reward doctors and hospitals for keeping patients healthy instead of paying them for each operation or service they provide.
The Senate is expected to unveil its version of the bill this week and vote on it the following week.
Senate President Therese Murray has said she expects passage by July 1.
Gov. Deval Patrick first proposed in 2010 that the state move toward a so-called global payment system to replace the fee-for-service approach.
