I don’t think he looks stressed. He seems to have lost weight and I think it shows in his face. Once he starts campaigning even more, I think he will pick up weight again – eating all the junk food on the road :)

I think this issue was on his shoulders for a long time in his heart he knew this is the right time to
show the world that He cares about people, This is a human right and civil rights issue. I still remember
his speech on race on 2008 it made me cry, PBO has to be one of the greates leaders of all times.

I think his rides on Air Force One relax him. He always comes off that plane with a spring in his step. Hopefully it is a quiet, relaxing, restful place for him. If he didn’t look stressed after this past week, he would be a robot, and he is definitely not. I bet tonight was fun and relaxing too. He loves music.

“Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgement that something else is more important than fear.” I’d say that this quote sums up President Obama’s actions today.

The Right is going to throw the kitchen and bathroom sinks at our President over the stance he took today.

Help him remain well armed to fight back with a small donation tonight to his re-election.

    LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL

    By Charles M. Blow

    —————————————

It is a natural impulse of all people to live freely in their own truth. President Obama yesterday lent his voice to affirming the basic humanity of gay and lesbian communities.

Standing up for what one truly believes is one of the greatest things a person can do. And, in the end, I believe that most Americans respect the courage of conviction and the pursuit of fairness, even if they have not come to accept same-sex marriage or even homosexuality.

Courage in politics isn’t always plentiful, and justice in the world isn’t always swift. Could Obama have moved more quickly? Maybe. But the important thing to remember is that he did move.

Log Cabin Republicans stood up for a party that despises them today; which vows to send them back into the shadows and has sponsored laws in other countries that put people to death for being gay.

I wonder if those single issue Democrats will stop and consider that Log Cabin Republicans are supporting a candidate despite this issue, while they are considering abandoning the President because of this issue.

    Obama Lets Go Of Fear

    By Andrew Sullivan

    —————————————

I do not know how orchestrated this was; and I do not know how calculated it is. What I know is that, absorbing the news, I was uncharacteristically at a loss for words for a while, didn’t know what to write, and, like many Dish readers, there are tears in my eyes.
    .
    .
Today Obama did more than make a logical step. He let go of fear. He is clearly prepared to let the political chips fall as they may. That’s why we elected him. That’s the change we believed in. The contrast with a candidate who wants to abolish all rights for gay couples by amending the federal constitution, and who has donated to organizations that seek to “cure” gays, who bowed to pressure from bigots who demanded the head of a spokesman on foreign policy solely because he was gay: how much starker can it get?

My view politically is that this will help Obama. He will be looking to the future generations as his opponent panders to the past. The clearer the choice this year the likelier his victory. And after the darkness of last night, this feels like a widening dawn.

I do not support homosexual marriage either and President Obama affirmation give me pause. But I do admire what the President did today, he said what he believes, and I am just saying what I believe. This exchange between Lorraine and Anniebella is important, because it’s going on all around the country. People will disagree with this move by President Obama, but many will refuse to abandon the President because of a disagreement. It’s not important to be in lockstep. It is important to understand that this President stands true to himself and his values, and strives to do the right thing. He’s working hard for this country and we all deserve a second term of this amazing man to move this country (and world) forward. I’m glad you and Lorraine felt you could express yourselves here. We need all the supporters we can get! :)

Thank you theo67 for what you said. The fact is we don’t have to agree on everything, and I’m glad I can come here and voice my opinion without someone ripping into me for that opinion. The most important thing for people to know is this President still has my support. And if anyone comes to me talking about this same sex marriage issue, I will explain to them the best I know how about how I feel.I have talk to several family members , some agree with the President and some didn’t, but they have told me that he still has their vote. The right will talk about what the Bible says, homosexuality is a sin, but the Bible says adultery is a sin too.

Anniebella and Lorraine, thank you. I just came in and I agree totally with both of you. I have been struggling with this all day. And I must say that I will continue to work even harder and fast and pray for this President and his family to get him re-elected.

I have friends and family members who are gay and I love them dearly. It has nothing to do with me evolving , it is my personal belief and my faith. I respect the President’s personal opinion and I know this must have weighed heavily upon his heart. I thank God that he and the First Lady are on one accord with his statement today.

He never had to prove himself to me and never will. I know his heart is sincere towards God ,that is enough for me. No other President has been held to such high standards, criticized, slandered, wait-and-see before I donate attitude as this man. If you voted in 2008 and believed in change then, the question is why would YOU change inspite of all the good things this man has done? That goes for all communities the Republicans have ignored for decades.

There are people I have spoken to tonight who voted in 2008 for POB who say they will not after tonight. I was very discouraged. I have my work cut out for me. An elderly AA woman must have sense the strain on my face and she encouraged me with just these simple words:
          “God Is In Control.”

Mel, I hope that answers your question, also.
Not Mitt, Not POB. God is in control. That is the Peace beyond all understanding that will get me through November.
Those of you who believe in the power of prayer……you know what to do.

LDS, so these people are satisfied with Mitt Romney and the Republicans being in control. Tell these people that President Obama has only voice his opinion, but look at all the things the radical Republicans all over this country have done and will continue to do if given a chance. Who pass the voter ID laws, trying to suppress our rights to vote, who pass the “stand your ground” bills, who has pass these crazy abortion bills, who want to take women rights away, even their right to choose to make their own decision about their body, who want to destroy Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, who want to take from the poor and give to the rich, cut programs that help the poor and middle class, but give more tax cuts to the rich. Who don’t give a dam if people have healthcare, these radical Republicans sick and hateful plans to take our rights away, to take us back to the fifties or beyond.

WhAT?? A “pro-choice Republican” (in THIS Congress!) who breaks GOP ranks on the subject of funding Planned Parenthood?

    http://thinkprogress.org/health/2012/05/09/481109/robert-dold-planned-parenthood-funding/

s another state has banned Planned Parenthood funding, Rep. Robert Dold (R-IL) introduced a bill to protect federal funds to Planned Parenthood. Dold, one of the few pro-choice Republicans in Congress, said today that he was pushing for the bill because of the importance of Title X family planning funds for women’s health:

We have seen several attempts to block funds and exclude health care providers from participating in the Title X program simply because they separately offer services beyond the scope of Title X. We should not discriminate against hospitals and organizations that provide access to basic, preventative, and in some cases life-saving services for so many underprivileged women through Title X.

Dold said he wants to “bring both sides together” in support of Planned Parenthood and health care for women, but it’s unclear how much support he will get. Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-FL), Energy and Commerce Oversight subcommittee chairman who launched an investigation into Planned Parenthood, told Politico that he did not understand why Dold’s bill was necessary because “there’s no discrimination against Planned Parenthood.”

Good for Dold I guess but be warned against Republican snakes. He has Mark Kirk’s old seat and he learned from the master how to pander to socially liberal wealthy constituents who don’t want their taxes raised. I don’t trust him.

    @no spin

I’ve been thinking about your concerns. I am a minister, and I know this is difficult for many Christians.

But I do not think President Obama was justifying his belief about marriage, per se, according to biblical mandate.

I think he was talking about basic rights under the law. The constitution provides that every citizen has certain inalienable rights. What I heard him saying is that under law he does not feel it right to give that right to some and not to others. “That’s where the distinction is.”

Jesus would not let the woman caught in adultery be stoned, even though it was scriptural law. Why? Because which of them had not sinned.
    Do unto others….

For so long we have been taught that homosexuality is a sin, but adultery is a sin, and greed is a sin, and pride is a sin….So if homosexuality is a sin and should be denied equal rights, then If I am an adulteress or controlled by greed, am I somehow a better sinner than the homosexual?

He was speaking as CIC. He must stand up for all the people. His hope would have been that civil unions would have been enough to protect and provide for the people involved. He did not advocate for churches to marry same-sex couples; he advocated government allowing because the constitution dictates that every person should have equal protection under the law.
He did what a serious, thoughtful leader should do: He stood up for all the people. Do unto others.

All I know is that what President Obama did today was one courageous act. I could never have called up that kind of courage.

What I believe is that he stood for people who have no rights, no recourse if things go wrong. He did not run away from them to protect his presidency.

If it costs him the presidency, it won’t cost him his soul. And if I ever needed a friend to have my back, I’d want it to be Baracjk Hussein Obama.

Eveingeorgia: Thank you so much for your comments. I am lying here trying to calm much physical pain from my medical conditions while still in a calm and beautiful space for President Obama. I felt the same as he spoke, and I also came away with the same thoughts in my mind and in my soul as you. I am crying tears of peace, joy, and relief for millions and for our President tonight.

He gave so many another opportunity to trust in his leadership, his compassion, his empathy, his fearless attitude that leads him to carry out these actions such as he did today. I know our President weighed everything before he finally personally came to his decision. But he used weights of pure diginity for others, fair scales of justice for others, humbleless for the service of others to him as CIC, and he showed us a leader with a spine that carries the very fluids of life of love, happiness, liberty, and justice for all people. I heard that in his voice and saw it on his face.

If only two people vote for him on Nov. 6, 2012, his soul will be fine, That is who POB is. This is a man of true core values. It may take him time on certain issues, and it should, but he will stop and take that time, and then he will always come out and give you the truth. We cannot erase POB’s core. He will carry that to his grave with grace. I am grateful for his courage. I am thankful to be alive each day to see the blessings that come my way and that come to seniors, children, and families who have just waited so long to hear a leader of a country speak truth to and for them to those precious gifts of our Constitution that are so important in their lives as well. ( And by the way , our precious brothers and sisters do not want to always hear and see recitations from this Constitution or staged reading of it on the House floor; but they want to be able to enjoy living those words with dignity in their lives. POB today, did what great leaders do.

I am so grateful for your comments tonight. I am grateful for our space here and our Chips who keeps us focus, for the many gifted writers here, and for the intellect and courage and respect that we must continue to share with each other. That was one of many points that I shared with the Chicago office. They see us, they hear us, and they read us. Let us hear our POTUS, support him, trust him, and move FORWARD with him. So thank you Eveingeorgia so much for this word tonight/this morning.HZ

“But I do not think President Obama was justifying his belief about marriage, per se, according to biblical mandate.

I think he was talking about basic rights under the law. ”

Thank you for this eveingeorgia. That was at the core of my struggle. The bible does say “render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar and everything unto God the things that are God”. To me that clearly says separation of Church and State. I have never questioned the fact that discrimination under the law was wrong. Period.

Yesterday after his announcement the lines got blurred. Your post is critical and I will share it with family, friends and Church members with a slight edit. I will remove the point about homosexuality against adultery etc. Sin is Sin. So I don’t think most Christians rank one type against the other so that was not a factor on this one.

      Everything else helped me.

      Alright. I AM IN!
