Good west coast morning TOD family.

Dearest Chips & BWD, I just had to write this in light of this week’s occurrences. We are a family here, many of us followed BWD from that orange place, and her home became ours. Dear TOD family, BWD is one of the heroines from the days of Sen. Barack Obama till now. She jumped in those waters filled with sharks (read men) and took on the struggle head on…Now I don’t want to sound feminist or anything, I’m just emphasizing the enormity of the challenge BWD took on. I mean some of us were new to blogging and the like yet she was already there doing everything to get the Senator elected. She always brought good news to GOS, she was heckled at times, but didn’t give up….finally it became unbearable that she had to leave and set up TOAITR. We (decent people) followed her. This is the BWD who has even had threats made on her life all because of her unmatched defense of PBO! She is a warrior and worrier (which can be a weakness). She wears her heart on her sleeve and gets too emotionally invested ; which sometimes gets interpreted as hair on fair or hand- wringing…I believe it’s because she has the courage to venture into the dark dark sites and confront people all in her defense of PBO. In the process, she (like Chips) gets worn-out, emotionally and physically….you would too if you had to deal with all the bile they deal with daily! But we all know her heart is ever in the right place, people lets accept her as just that, Mama BWD. When they (Chips and BWD) come on here feeling discouraged, let’s life them up, that’s what family does, moreover this demonstrates that they must really have a comfort level with us to bear their fears for all to see. Come on now family!
Now Mama Chips, there’s a reason Yardarm calls you Captain, it’s no cliché… you ARE our captain as we navigate the high seas. We may face fair winds or rough ones, but we got to keep on moving, we shall surely get there! You, BWD, Deaniac (TPV), Eclectablog, ABL, and SP etc… are our generals, leading this army as we fight the good fight under our Commander-in-chief President Barack Obama! Make no mistake this is a world-wide movement. I have Ugandan roots, used to live and work in Japan, but moved to Nigeria with my husband 2yrs ago. So even from oceans away, we follow you. Please don’t threaten to leave us again, coz I I’ve got news for you Lady, you are as stuck with us, as we are with you!!LOL. We are going to finish what we started. Aint nobody out there gonna pull a Willard and take credit for this OBOT MOVEMENT; our dear generals, it’s all because of you, so please hang in there, history will remember you when the President Obama library is set up, I guarantee you your good works will be there too!!!!
TOD family, let’s remember that we are all different, come from different places, in fact no two people in a family are the same. But like PBO likes to say ‘we also have common values.’ When push comes to shove we are there for each other (think Hachiko & Lunar, Kayla & Donna, soon Sheri will soon join them in DC , and what about all the generous donations you TOD family makes at the drop of a hat)! You are all decent people, together we make a great team with different gifts- —Chips to bring out those pics that take us all to heaven and just make our days , Linda with those incredible videos, HZ, Joan & LDS who just bring such peace and serenity, WIW & Global CL & Donna are the pragmatic ones, channeling our discussions into action, Jovie for the latest news, LL& Tally simplify complexities for us, Bob & UTA & the rest are our very own twitterazzi and as for Yardarm—-LOLest! So lurkers, non-lurkers, national & international, we are one solid unit, air-tight. We might have disagreements with each other, but no outside force is gonna break our bond. I know trolls will haz a sad after reading the following… PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA IS HERE FOR 4 MORE YEARS….WE ARE OBOTS FOR LIFE AND WE WILL CRUSH YOU IF YOU MESS WITH HIM!!!!
    Love you guys, JC

    PS- Isnt our President awesome:-)))

Does anyone know how old Willard was at the time? From what I remember of his father, George, he would have been horrified at this kind of behavior. If a son of mine had done this, I would have taken him for therapy–any kid that filled with hate needs help. In any case, it”s a terrible indication of Willard’s natural disregard of and insensitivity to other people. He is constitutionally incapable of walking in someone else’s shoes to the point where it seems almost pathological.

Gay Former Romney Staffer: Obama ‘On The Right Side Of History’

Richard Grenell, the openly gay former Bush administration official who wa Mitt Romney’s national security spokesperson for a couple weeks before resigning under pressure from social conservatives upset with his hiring, praised President Obama for publicly supporting same sex marriage Wednesday. Grenell, who is an advocate for same sex marriage, told Metro Weekly Obama “deserves credit for finally taking a stand in favor of equality.”

    His full statement:

President Obama’s decision to personally support gay marriage means he will be on the right side of history. He deserves credit for finally taking a stand in favor of equality. Nevertheless, it’s important to keep politicians from playing politics with a group’s civil rights. Democrats and Republicans continue to calculate the political implications of their positions, and the timing of the president’s announcement suggests his position is a political move too. While the president could have evolved when the Democrats controlled the House and the Senate or even yesterday before the swing state of North Carolina voted on the issue, Republicans should also remember that young people and many Christians believe in civil equality.

    • May 10, 2012 at 11:46 am

What rot. He needs to evolve, right out of the Republican party. What President Obama said yesterday makes Grenell, and his party look like jokes.

    • 80 Don
      May 10, 2012 at 12:21 pm

Right, and both Bushes should have “evolved” when they ran the Whitehouse all those years. And maybe gays that are Republican should have held the Republican party’s feet to the fire. I have no sympathy for you Mr. Grenell, you knew goddamn well what sort of people you were working for, and now you want to give the President, a man that cared about your station in life, a backhanded compliment. Fuck you sir, because as sure as the sun rising in the morning you’ll be out there once again singing the Republican song.

    • 82 jackiegrumbacher
      May 10, 2012 at 2:28 pm

Yeah, so, in conclusion, this guy is going to go with the person who hates gays and says he will never support gay marriage because PBO didn’t “evolve” fast enough to suit Grenell ego. What’s the matter with these people? Is thinking that foreign to them. Do they just willingly give up all reason and common sense to remain Republcan?

House Responds To Obama’s Marriage Endorsement By Reinforcing Discrimination |

The House of Representatives passed a measure reinforcing the Defense of Marriage Act, just hours after President Obama announced his support for marriage equality. In a vote of 245 to 171, the members “voted to stop the Justice Department from using taxpayer funds to actively oppose DOMA — the Clinton-era law defining marriage as between a man and a woman that the Obama administration stopped enforcing in February 2011.”

Sixteen Democrats voted in favor of the measure, while 7 Republicans opposed it. Among its many negative consequences, DOMA has denied federal benefits to same-sex couples and their families. House Republicans, however, have defended its constitutionality in 12 separate cases.

    • 84 jackiegrumbacher
      May 10, 2012 at 2:31 pm

So the US House decides to stand on its little hind feet and declare itself a relic of the past, just as the president boldly leads us into the 21rst century. They are dinosaurs braying for their suppers just before the asteroids hit.

Now, I comprehend that Crypt Romney is seeking to be appointment LIAR in chief, but, is he deliberately attempting to open the portals of Hades
and resurrect all whom have thus far been laying in unconsciousness — for, I can tell you, the more that “robot”/Mitt” opens its multiple mouths and speak, the more the “dead” who rumble and rise, the more we interpret, hear, see, and perceive, what once bound us in inertia. For those who are pondering the meanings, get your handy dictionaries close.

  20. May 10, 2012 at 11:30 am

I don’t think this is getting that bad of Press. Only when Republucans are interviewed, do you hear anything negative.
The vast majority of Pundits, except for Fox, are ok with this decision.
    Which is Great!

    • 102 57andfemale
      May 10, 2012 at 1:17 pm

It’s certainly the most unified positive response I’ve heard since the election. But there is a lot of petty equivocations from the left. However, most of the support is extremely positive.

I am disturbed that my two very close friends who are lesbian have been silent on this at Facebook. My male gay friends are cheering but these two are not saying a word.

We think that certain issues define us. My one friend grew up on the far South side of Chicago, and she really didn’t want to vote for that black guy. I’m sure she didn’t vote in 2010 and obviously there is not enough this President can do to please her. That just cannot erase his blackness. So even though the vast majority of progressives are seeing this through the proper prism, this has dampened my view today and makes me so sad. I have been talking substantively to them on this stuff since 2007 and it makes me so very sad.

There is something wrong with him, mentally. Besides his lies every time he opens his mouth, when he says anything off script, his comments are just crazy. “The trees are the right height” “I take credit” for saving the auto industry. Yesterday he tell a reporter to ask him important questions, or whatever words he used, because he is not capable of going off him talking points about the economy. This just isn’t normal behavior.

He didn’t confront the gay student on his own, he led a pack of students to attack one student. That’s who he is! People do change their views on issues as they mature. But, basic charactor stays the same throughout life. That’s who he is!

This kind of governance is what some people are willing to give back to Republicans over same sex marriage? Seriously?

The Morning Plum: Will gay marriage force Romney on to culture war footing?

    By Greg Sargent

    —————————–

The papers are filled with articles gaming out whether Obama’s big announcement yesterday puts him at political risk, but the other question is this: Will it force Mitt Romney on to a culture war footing when he’d rather be talking about the economy?

Today a strange thing will happen. President Obama’s plane will fly directly over my house (about 150 miles south of Seattle). The plane will circle, an arm will be waving out the window, and I’ll see a flash of that million watt smile. Could happen!

Fox Now Asking: Is The Drop In Gas Prices A Bad Thing?

    —————-

Note that Fox is now raising how worldwide economic factors are affecting gas prices, after spending weeks blaming Obama for the price increase since the president’s inauguration. Fox won’t explain that the extremely low price in January 2009 was a short-lived drop caused by the massive economic recession. In fact, last week on Fox News, Varney explicitly said with a straight face that the price increase since the bottom of the recession had “everything to do with” Obama, but the recent drop in gas prices “has nothing to do with” him:

That is how disgusting the Republicans are. Beating the crap out of a gay classmate is fine, but hugging a professor is treason. If anyone even think of not voting for President Obama because of his opinion on gay marriage, they better use some common sense, and remember what the radical Republicans stands for.

    One decision, many ripples

    By Steve Benen

    ————————————

After President Obama endorsed marriage equality yesterday, Howard Kurtz called it “a political earthquake that shakes the landscape.” While, in a literal sense, this may have been one person expressing an opinion on one issue, Kurtz’s assessment looks even more accurate now than it did 21 hours ago.

The president’s announcement has clearly caused a ripple on Capitol Hill, where lawmakers who may have been reluctant to speak out on the issue before have started to follow Obama’s lead, and were House Republicans moved quickly to reaffirm support for the Defense of Marriage Act and prohibit same-sex marriages on U.S. military bases.

What’s more, Greg Sargent reports that Obama’s comments also appear to have given a shot in the arm for ENDA’s bipartisan proponents.

Dogs Against Romney see a pattern with Mitt’s cruelty:

“A dentist, a lawyer, a prosecutor, and a principal all remember the incident clearly. The only person who doesn’t remember it is the GOP nominee for president of the United States.
Lauber died in 2004, but he is remembered by those who cared about him. Just like Seamus.”

    Good Morning TOD family

So proud of our President, and proud of all who have applauded his decision.

I love these lines in Steve Benen’s blog –

“The Obama campaign seems more than comfortable with this, and released this video earlier today, using this issue to reinforce the “forward vs. backward” theme.

If the president’s campaign team is nervous about the political risks associated with embracing marriage equality, they’re hiding it well.”

IMHO – we will not loose this election because of super pac $$, lies from Romney, or the economy. We will loose if we allow fear to quiet our voices and paralyze our actions.

So lets use this blog to support each other, and grow more fearless day by day.

Presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney would spend $2 trillion more than the current Pentagon budget over the next decade, according to an analysis of his proposal to tie the Defense budget to the gross domestic product.

Travis Sharp, a Center for a New American Security analyst, found Romney’s Defense Department would have a budget that spends $2.1 trillion more than the current plan over the next 10 years if the Pentagon budget was based on 4 percent of GDP, as Romney has proposed.

I very much agree that President Obama said the right thing about SSM and is on the right side of history, as many have asserted. I do worry, however, about the consequences on the election. Currently, the election is looking pretty positive for Obama, advantages seem to be inching up in most polls in key states, but the race is still tight. I will be anxiously awaiting the next round of polls post-announcement. Obama’s stance is overwhelmingly approved by the under 29 age group. What I worry about is the middle aged and older in those toss up states, whether opposition to this endorsement will be enough to turn some Obama voters away or not, especially when a few votes here and there may make the diff in winning a state and thus the election. There is definitely political risk with this decision as I don’t see how it gains any voters but has the possibility of losing some. So sigh. We will see what we will see and how much this remains a key issue. So far, it looks like mostly religious figures weighing in to condemn, not shockingly. I assume there will be Repub super pacs which will try to jump on this, and I will not be surprised to see “war on marriage”, “war on religion” ads. And the anti-social issues voters tend to show up in big numbers. And I was correct that Joe B. forced the timing on this, as PBO admitted. PBO didn’t want this to interfere with his opening rallies and the student loan issue and the list for Congress. I think he and his team wanted more of a headwind before he made this announcement, likely at the Dem convention. So sorry to state all these fears. But I can’t help but worry as I believe we are definitely at a crossroads, and this election victory may be the most important ever.

Dotster I believe it was a good thing that he announced his support for SSM now. He said he was going to say something about this before the convention. I think it’s better that it came out now, because it gives us more time to educate voters on what is really at stake in this election.
