amk I hesitated for a few seconds before posting thinking I did not deserve the honor of being first on TOD because of the inner demons that I wrestled with for the last few hours. Then I figured . . . . Forget that.

I soooo deserve to be Number 1. We all have our bad days and then we move on.

Upward and onward to November. Here is to equality for all.

            @no spin

Hi, I’m just checking the posts from last night. Thank you for responding. It meant a lot to hear from you. As I said I have struggled with this issue too.

President Obama has brought this boil to a head, and my clarity came when I realized that what we are dealing with are rights under the law, constitutional law. Whether I believe in same-sex marriage has nothing to do with what the constitution provides for each of the nation’s citizens.

This is why the separation of church and state is so important. When we start blurring the two, we end up with slavery, justified on biblical grounds and the denial of basic human rights as defined under the constitution.

President Obama is not attacking our faith and our beliefs, he is upholding the law.

As you rightly noted, “Render unto Caesar….”

    Good Morning TOD family

So proud of our President, and proud of all who have applauded his decision.

I love these lines in Steve Benen’s blog –

“The Obama campaign seems more than comfortable with this, and released this video earlier today, using this issue to reinforce the “forward vs. backward” theme.

If the president’s campaign team is nervous about the political risks associated with embracing marriage equality, they’re hiding it well.”

IMHO – we will not loose this election because of super pac $$, lies from Romney, or the economy. We will loose if we allow fear to quiet our voices and paralyze our actions.

So lets use this blog to support each other, and grow more fearless day by day.

What??? I was on my 10th or 20th “true love” by 13. I think it started with a valentine in 2nd grade with lots of X’s on it, a sure sign of undying love and devotion. And my parents were always happy to have boyfriends visit—-my dad even put up a bball net on the garage, picked up some used pinball games for the basement.

They have come to trust and love each other like father and son. That’s the genuine, rock-solid bond they have that can’t be eroded. It’s one of the pillars of this administration that I think to some degree is intimidating to the MSM and GOP.

WASHINGTON, DC – Commerce Secretary John Bryson and Interior Secretary Ken Salazar today announced the Administration’s National Tourism and Travel Strategy – delivering on President Obama’s call in January for a national strategy to promote domestic and international travel opportunities throughout the United States.

The National Strategy is a blueprint for expanding travel to and within the U.S., laying out concrete steps to be taken in five key areas. It sets out a goal of increasing American jobs by attracting and welcoming 100 million international visitors annually by the end of 2021, more than a 50 percent increase over the number expected this year. These international visitors would spend an estimated $250 billion per year, creating jobs and spurring economic growth in communities across the country.

“Tens of millions of tourists from all over the world come and visit America every year. They stay in our hotels, they eat at our restaurants, they visit our attractions, and they help create jobs. At a time when too many Americans are still looking for work, we need to make it easier for more people to visit this country and keep our economy growing,” said President Obama.

“This Administration will continue to do everything we can to support travel and tourism – our number one services export – which will help support millions of American jobs,” Secretary Bryson said. “I am proud of our work on the National Strategy, a product of a strong private-public partnership, which will make the U.S. even more welcoming to visitors and reinforce our message to the world: the United States is open for business.”

So, Tally, his comment of ‘if some want to talk about high school, be my guest’ was yet another goof by the goofball-in-chief Romney because he was consciously conducting his hateful stunts at an age when he had no reasonable basis to claim he was too young to know what he was doing. Very different from a child being fed a particular type of food – consistent with a particular cultures practices – by his step father – a topic Romney, Rove et al., tried to make an issue.

This guy is mean. How he made all his money is based on a very mean-spirited approach to business. In fact, ‘corporations are people, my friend’ is utterly mean-spirited because it debases humanity, for starters. And, we know all the other incidents, throughout his adult life, that are mean-spirited.

If you want a cold, truly mean person as President, then this guy is perfect.

If most Americans focused on just what type of person he is – with piles of evidence available – I think most Americans would reject him because most Americans, at their core, are not mean.

The pastor of the Cathedral here went up against the archbishop and refused to allow petitions agains gay marriage to be flogged off on people comng to Mass that weekend. I understand today, from a friend of mine who is involved with the Cathedral, PBO invited some of the priests from the Seattle parish to the events today! I’m glad to hear this. Yesterday, every time I tuned in to NPR, they were singing Romney’s praises. I caught the tail end of some story about Romney helping some girl to reunite with her parents (or something) and a person came on saying how Romney is a caring, sensitive fellow who’s getting a bad rap. That’s he’s the most genuine and competent guy he knows – and I immediately thought that the caliber of people this guy knows can’t be that great.

I know the media is trying to say the Seamus stuff means nothing so long after the event, but it gives us the measure of the man. And everything he’s done since then completes the picture. He is a jerk – no doubt about it. And the fact that he lies so smoothly and easily means he’s empty inside, too. He can’t like himself very much.

the other lady tucked under his arm with the biggest grin on her face, while someone else’s arm is slung around his shoulder.
That to me is how you spell LOVE! This picture brought me to tears. I love this man.

Looks like Willard Mitt has always been a bully and without empathy.

Ok – I just watched that four times in a row, and I plan to go back and watch it a few more times. I’d forgotten about this, and it needs to make the rounds again.

This is the kind of effect one would hope a role model to have on kids. These are the qualities to emulate. This is a real leader. And the other striking thing is that these kids are diverse. They represent society. They’ve been taught to think and observe and value good things. The video is just touching and it stirs my heart. Thanks for bringing it back.

Ryan’s budget just passed 218 to 199 with zero Dem votes and 16 no votes from Republicans.

    • 123 theo67
      May 10, 2012 at 3:04 pm

The thing people need to understand is that these Republicans were voted into office. They aren’t some interlopers who snuck in saying one thing, and are now doing something else (except for Scott Walker). This is what they promised to deliver to the American people – a disastrous and bleak future, with a government that prioritizes corporate wealth and help for millionaires and billionaires, and nothing for the people. They were pretty clear, after doing nothing to help recover the economy, that they planned to obstruct the President – and they were voted in to office in 2010 anyway. And their candidates have spent several months parading the worst elements of society on the national stage with ignorant pride, promising to do even worse stuff. Romney currently has 40%+ of the vote – if the polls are to be believed (pun intended).

if people don’t like what the GOP are doing, then the people have the power to change it. The GOP were voted in. They can be voted out.

      • May 10, 2012 at 3:36 pm

Governors like Christie did say one thing to get elected and changed after. He wrote an open letter to teachers before the election telling them not to worry about pensions and bargaining rights. After, he attacked teachers with a vengeance. That is one example. He was for the tunnel to NYC and then pulled the plug as another. He’s a repub and they lie. It’s in the DNA

        • 125 theo67
          May 10, 2012 at 5:44 pm

By the time Christie and Scott Walker got elected, people knew what the Republicans stood for and what their agendas were. The same could be said about Democrats dumping Rep. Meeks (a dedicated Democrat with a history of voting with Dems) for Gov Christ, who was refusing to even commit to caucus with the Democrats, and would have been a Blue Dog – at best. People’s eyes are open. They know what these Republicans are about now. And if these Republicans retain the House or gain the Senate or the White House, then people really won’t have any grounds for complaints.

          • May 10, 2012 at 9:19 pm

That’s not true. A review of the run-up to the 2010 election in Wisconsin would provide sufficient evidence. They both lied. Over and over again. And the propaganda was the best the Koch brothers could afford.

    • May 10, 2012 at 3:05 pm

It was a very unusual car, a muscle car that competed with the Ford Mustang and was manufactured by American Motors Corporation, which Romney’s father led before being elected governor of Michigan. There are still Mustangs on the streets today, the Javelin? Not too many.

GOP CONTINUES TO FREAK OUT OVER PRESIDENT OBAMA’S RESCUE OF THE AUTO INDUSTRY

It’s really getting comical to watch Mitt Romney and now Karl Rove try to take credit for and minimize one of President Obama’s major accomplishments. Both of them are ignoring the facts because they don’t satisfy the narrative they want to portray.

Meanwhile, Mitt Romney never mentions his time as governor of MA or his signature accomplishment of healthcare reform. All we hear about is that he was a successful business with experience and he ran the Olympics. There are a lot of successful businessmen in this country. What’s so unique about Mitt Romney. What specifically is he going to do differently that has not already been done? Romney saying he knows how to turn the economy around is just like John McCain saying he knows how to capture OBL. It’s just empty rhetoric. Meanwhile, President Obama has turned the economy around and it’s moving in the right direction. And oh by the way, he ordered the raid to capture OBL. Those are the facts.

Rove Ignores The Realities Of The Auto Rescue

    ——————————–

But the idea that the auto rescue could have been financed through private funds ignores what numerous experts have said: Private financing for the auto bankruptcies was impossible at the time. As Arthur Gonzalez, the federal judge who presided over Chrysler’s bankruptcy hearings, said during a recent ABC News interview, “One thing is clear, without government support in one fashion or another, there were no sources of funding” for Chrysler.

Had the bailout not occurred – something that would’ve been likely had bankruptcy relied upon private financing that simply wasn’t there – anywhere from 2.5 million to more than 3 million jobs could’ve been lost.

Rove concluded his column by claiming that “[i]f the auto industry bailout is the best Mr. Obama can do, Republicans should take heart.” It appears Rove, like others in right-wing media, is seemingly in denial about the auto bailout.

    • 163 EricFive
      May 10, 2012 at 4:22 pm

Mitt is really making a bad “first impression” with the American people. It is extremely difficult to overcome making a bad first impression. That is why the MSM has been working so hard to prop Mitt up and prevent a negative narrative from taking hold. He is an extremely unlikable person. His bullying of classmates clearly illustrates his meanness (as does his embrace of the Ryan Budget Plan). This guy makes Dole seem warm and fuzzy. As the GOP primaries clearly illustrated, the more voters get to know Mitt, the LESS they like him. Ironically, this hazing story will probably HELP Mitt with the GOP base and Tea Party set, however, it will hurt him with Independents, women and sane people in general.

“Romney has now apologized. He claims he didn’t know the classmate was gay:

“I certainly don’t believe that I thought the fellow was homosexual,” Romney told Kilmeade. “That was the furthest thing from our minds back in the 1960s.”

But I thought he had no memory of this incident? That was his position this morning. And there was no homophobia in the 1960s? Seriously: Etch-A-Sketch. Regardless, Chait analyzes:

The story does give the sense of a man who lacks a natural sense of compassion for the weak. His prankery seems to have invariably singled out the vulnerable — the gay classmate, the nearly blind teacher, the nervous day student racing back to campus. It’s entirely possible to grow out of that youthful mentality — to learn to step out of your own perspective, to develop an appreciation for the difficulties faced by those not born with Romney’s many blessings. I’m just not sure he ever has.

I conclude two things: Romney was a high school bully of gay or effeminate kids and is also a brazen liar.”

    http://andrewsullivan.thedailybeast.com/2012/05/romney-a-gay-basher-in-high-school-ctd.html

More journalists need to start calling Romney what he is: a mean, cowardly liar.

Oh no. We never thought about “the gay” in the 60’s. We just assumed that every boy who wanted to dance was ‘gay’. The stuff on Glee with the jocks beating up on the gay kids? That happened in my high school.

A kid with bleach-blonde hair? He was just ‘different’? You really are delusional, Mitt.

Now I admit that being in theatre, gay was part of my life. My brother was gay. The notion that this wasn’t on anyone’s radar is absurd. The word gay? No. The preferred word began with an “f”.

Between Sunday and Yesterday BEFORE POTUS announced his support for SSM, Chuck Todd had posted or retweeted 93 tweets which is an average of 23 tweets a day.

But alas between yesterday afternoon from today – only 6 tweets! Meanwhile, nary a peep about any of Romney’s bullying history, or his doubling down on antigay legislation, or the Log Cabin Repubs vile reaction to POTUS’s announcement yesterday.
