Morning everyone.

Great gettin’ up morning all you O’s!!!!
Another wunnerful day in TOD-town, am I right?
WooHoot! You are so right, cookemom!
Morning Cookemom, morning everyone
Thanks for this pic Chips. This is exactly how he looked the last time we parted…. or was it when we first met?
Congrats cookemom. I’m super envious of your prize for 1st place!
This is how he will look when arrives for tea later TODAY! Oh my, oh my, oh my goodness gracious! So much to do!
Morning!
Morning
I love the articles it’s awesome
Good morning all.
Whenever I see the title of the first day’s post on TOD, ‘rise and shine’ I can’t help think of a song we used to sing in Sunday school when I was a little girl: “Rise and shine and give God the glory, children. Rise and shine and give God the glory, children. Soldiers of the Lord. Every step goes higher and higher, children. Every step goes higher and higher children…” Anyone know that song? Or is it just a Jamaican thing?
We sang it in our church’s summer bible study each morning outside after everyone arrived. Great memories.
No, I’m a product of the Chicago area. I’ve visited Jamaica several times, luv it and the people.
Hachiko, your job fair was yesterday, right? How did it go? I was sending good thoughts to you all day.
Hi Jackie. Unfortunately, it didn’t go so well. the “job fair” was mostly people promoting direct sales products (diet drinks, personal use items) and home heath care agencies. LunarSea cheered me up when she got home. Reminded me that this was rural Maine. Many people here only have a high school diploma. The job market is depressed and there are very few opportunities.
We sang that almost every Sunday in Chicago, so it’s not just Jamaican. We also clapped as we sang it…..it’s a real feel good song, and I also think of that when I see the heading. Childhood memories do not let go!
Yes! A real feel good song.
I remember that song. I used to sing it too in Sunday School! We had hand movements to it too.
We did, too! See, we’re more alike than we are different. Our shared experiences should be what binds us together. Have a lovely day, Betsy! Love your tweets, btw.
Thank you Hachiko, tweeting is the only place I can really let fly with my support for PBO as I am a teacher in a very, very Republican school district, and I teach US History to 8th graders. I can’t even put Obama signs on my car, openly endorse PBO, etc, so I just talk alot about equality, fairness, and focus on what’s best about our American values. Today I am teaching about stereotypes. It should be very lively. I am always careful because I need my job and could lose it by my teabagger parents. They’d find a way.
This is such a critical age. I think a lot of our political beliefs are developed and cemented at this age. You are doing the Lord’s work.
Good morning all. Thanks for the memories. Sang that song more times than I could ever count. LOVE it!!!!
We sang that song in Sunday school, too. We sang it a little differently though. We sang “Children of the Lord” instead of “Soldiers of the Lord”. One of my favorites!
Is it “children of the lord?” I guess I remembered wrong. LOL. Thanks, MomSense.
We sang “children of the Lord” too.
Vacation Bible School memories……
No, not just a Jamaican thing. We sang it in Vacation Bible School in the ’60′s, my kids san it in the ’80′s, and my grandkids sing it now.
Is that the same song as “We are climbing Jacob’s ladder”? It’s been about 60 years since I was in Sunday school.
I don’t know. LOL. That does sound familiar, though. I’m not even sure I got the lyrics right. Just a faint memory that gets stirred each time I see the ‘rise and shine’ post.
1st!
1st? Oh no, wait… GOOD MORNING! Hugs all around, we do indeed live in interesting and exciting times! Blessing and Good Will to all. Chips, you are astonishing, as is our President!
Yay, have a great day everyone. Proud to be living under PBO’s leadership. The likes of him only come round once in a lifetime! Stay positive everyone, we’ve got his back, he knows it. Progress, forward all!
Damn.
/Shakes fist at cookemom.
ha ha!!! I did that on purpose. Never let it be said that ol’ cookemom is off her clicker.
“Never let it be said that ol’ cookemom is off her clicker.”
But remember who won that race ?
The “Succeed” ad is really good!!!!!!! Bravo to the Obama team on that one.
Love the “Forward” slogan.
The right wing is trying to push the theme that Obama is a coward. I laughed when I read the newspaper headlines. I don’t think their strategy will work, lol.
Obama hits Romney with “Etch-A-Sketch”: During the ABC News interview, Obama had this to say about Romney’s claim that he deserves credit for the auto industry’s recovery:
I think this is one of his Etch-a-Sketch moments. I don’t think anybody takes that seriously. People remember his position, which was, “Let’s let Detroit go bankrupt” and his opposition to government involvement in making sure that GM and Chrysler didn’t go under.
This suggests Obama himself will be using the Etch-A-Sketch image to define Romney, mockingly, throughout the campaign. As for the substance of this, no amount of obfuscation can change the fact that Romney opposed the government loans that bailed out the industry — which goes right to the heart of the ideological argument over government that will drive this campaign
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-line/post/the-morning-plum-will-gay-marriage-force-romney-on-to-culture-war-footing/2012/05/10/gIQAtwORFU_blog.html
HEEHEE! Love it.
Hopefully the EtchASketch will stick like the “flip flop” was against Kerry.
I watched the GMA interview this morning and when PBO used the word ‘Etch-A-Sketch’ in regards to Romney I bounced around in glee. Plus he called Romney an Etch-A-Sketch with such a sweet chuckle and smile. It was hilarious. You could tell he was ready to take Romney on.
That backhand is strong.
By the way, I’m not buying the idea that this will hurt the president’s reelection chances. I think that’s media fed bullshit.
very interesting to see the photo of PBO that each news paper used for this announcement – an subtle message being sent here?
We don’t yet know. I’m actually very glad this happened earlier rather than later. We also need to not fret over polls over the next few weeks. There will be a lot of knee-jerk reaction and a lot of amplification of what those signals are in the press. But 6 months is an eternity — I have every confidence that PBO and his team can keep this on track.
It does make NC much harder. The b.s.from Tweety and the like on PA and OH I think is less founded. This is not 2004. And this is Barack Obama, not John Kerry. I also think the Western swing states will be a little easier because of this.
I know it’s ridiculous coming from fretful me, but I really am not going to let the next few weeks frighten me. No one plays the long game better than Barack Obama.
I think it speaks to trust. He has always said he would be honest with us in telling us where he stands. That there would be areas of disagreement. Whereas Romney blows with the wind and is always smarmy. People want a leader who will protect the country, Medicare, social security, steward the economy which is improving, treat women with dignity, respecting their choices.
I am not buying it either, TrumpDog. And I believe that the NC amendment would have faired differently if folks had been educated better. The amendment is about equal rights…there are a whole lot of heterosexual civil unions, what is oftentimes referred to as “common-law” marriages. I think here in CA in 2008, Prop 8 happened the way it did because most folks took for granted that this is CA and of course Prop 8 will not pass. EDUCATION, EDUCATION, EDUCATION.
Congrats on “First” cookemom. Just popped in to say Good Morning and I have to get going. To BWD and Chips, I noticed my comment a few days ago was pegged on the blog as “Nasty”. I am so sorry. I try not to be mean or hurtful to anyone. Sometimes this is very hard for me….I have to consider Dick Cheny.
I could not be prouder of the president coming out for civil rights for all Americans.
Now: A Choice
A reader writes:
Today takes away the free pass that so many Republicans have had. While some Republicans may favor gay marriage, and abhor the bigoted policies of their own party, they could still rationalize that support in their own minds. They could say, and not entirely without merit, that sure the Republican party is wrong on this issue, but so what? Were the Democrats really that much better? Isn’t the President against gay marriage too? Prior to today, they could say that. But no more. That free pass has now ended.
President Obama saw to that. I have seen comparison of this decision to Abraham Lincoln, but I’ll introduce another – to Harry Truman. Truman integrated the Armed Services in 1948, his presidential election year, and Obama just followed in his footsteps. And like Truman, Obama cannot possibly know how this will turn out for him politically in November. But he knew it was the right thing to do so he made the decision, and will let the political chips fall where they may.
This November, we Americans will choose between one candidate who recently bragged about preventing Massachusetts from becoming the “Las Vegas of Gay Marriage,” to one who has the moral courage to voice equal support for all citizens.
No more equivocation on language, no more gray areas, and no more passing the buck. Today, President Obama, like President Truman before him, can proudly say, the buck stops here.

Good Morning everyone. I am very proud of PBO and will work very hard to get people out to the polls to vote. I also want to educate myself on other states’ voter ID laws, so I can mount a war on them on twitter. Since I live in CA, we don’t have those laws here, so I hope to help others as people retweet me, so they can get out to vote. It’s important now more than ever.
I believe the OFA has a lot of materials for you to access.
Good morning everyone. These are beautiful headlines.
I’m going home today. I belong to a black church and I’ll see what people are saying… gotta push back b/c the black radio stations have people calling in saying their disappointed in the president.
review the photos of PBO that were used for this story and you can get some insight about the attitude of the paper’s editorial or author of the article
Have a safe trip home CK, btw my #2 daughter may FB message you. She’s getting involved in the campaign in LA, after moving there from DC last month.
Is she my friend on fb?
I don’t know how that part works, so I don’t think so. Do you have to be friends to send someone a message? I’ve told her how involved you’ve been in the campaign and all you do.
are you following me on twitter? I can send u a link through DM to my page to send to her.
Collegekay, help me understand this: isn’t discrimination, discrimination? I simply do not understand why the black community isn’t willing to fight discrimination anywhere they find it. I was one of many white kids who marched for civil rights in the 60′s. Advancements didn’t happen in a vacuum. I know this is allegedly grounded in Scripture, but then why aren’t we killing people for eating shellfish or stoning adulterers?
It is time for the progressive ministers to really step up, like Barber (isn’t that his name?). It is time for Christians to take back their religion that is based on tolerance and love and justice.
No some in the black church don’t think of it as discrimination b/c they think homosexuality is wrong and immoral.
This is an issue that I argue with my step father all the time. We just don’t talk about it anymore b/c we put my mom in a difficult situation. She doesn’t like when we argue.
collegekay, if anyone come to me talking about homosexuality being wrong and immoral, then I will ask them this question, what does the Bible say about adultery, lying, stealing, lust, how about gambling? How about gossiping? You know there are plenty of thing which is wrong, but it doesn’t stop people from doing them, and alot of church folks do them. But you don’t have to agree with the President on this issue, but not to support him because of this issue is wrong. And I hope and pray most people, black, white, latinos, will see it that way. Have they forgotten the Republicans and what they stand for? A vote taken from President Obama is a vote for doing away with Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, more tax cuts for the rich, ending programs which help the poor and middle class, taking away women’s right, minorities rights (Voter ID), who came up with that, or who came up with that “stand your ground” law? The Republicans.
Our people fought and died to be able to vote, and the Republicans are trying to take that right away. If they take that away, what would be next? All I ask people to do is think.
Well said, anniebella! I was brought up in church although I no longer subscribe to any organized religion. My uncle was a pastor and later a Bishop. Most members of my family are still deeply religious-really born again Christians. some members of my family have no problem with gay marriage, others do. Part of my disillusionment with organized religion is the hypocrisy of many religious leaders who pick and choose from the bible what to emphasize. I don’t recall Jesus being so overly occupied with sexuality. Moreover, marriage is sanctioned by the state (government) and should not be subjected to religious edicts. If atheists can get married and their marriages are recognized by the state why not homosexual couples?
I agree…
Keep us posted on your inside view on this.
If you can have one of the Rev. William Barber video clips, that might be very helpful. His powerful (black) voice is so sensible, and Christian.
Awesome compilation of news Chips. Love the videos. It’s a good day folks. It’s a good day waking up and knowing that Barack Obama is President of the United States.
Isn’t it nice that MSNBC gives equal time to Democrats? Oh wait a minute…
Chuckle LOAD had on Gilespue and then Barnstad for his first 25 minutes of his Show.
Both were just seething with hatred, Face getting redder, just mentioning the Presidents name, especially Barnstad.
I am pretty sure, if Duels were still legal, Barnstad would be challenging this President every give minutes.
That Guy, right there, has got issues!
That is all.
I watch the segment with the Gov of Iowa. Chuck Todd pushed back A LITTLE but he let the guy talk all over him with GOP talking points. Infuriating.
They need to rile up their base for mehmney and showing snarling anger is their go-to weapon every time.
GM TOD Family. I Didn’t sleep at all, was awake all night tossing & turning. I love all the Headlines but I Love my President even more.
I didn’t sleep well either, but we must keep pressing forward.
Didn’t sleep well myself; hoping to see a massive outpouring of support towards PBO today.
I’m sorry you didn’t get a good night’s sleep. I’ve slept like a baby since 11/08, even through the tough times, cause I knew we put the best person in charge and he would do his best. I know that in right vs. wrong, right will win out. May not be as soon as I’d like, but I don’t lose sleep over it. I don’t think PBO does either.
Republicans could join Obama on same-sex marriage
By Sally Kohn
———————————————-
In finally evolving to support marriage equality, President Obama has not only placed himself firmly on the right side of history with respect to an issue of fundamental rights and justice but he has also thrown down the gauntlet for Republicans, especially his presumed challenger, Mitt Romney.
.
And now it’s the Republicans’ turn. As Fox News anchor Shepard Smith suggested in reporting the president’s shift, Republicans are “on the wrong side of history.” Indeed. But they have plenty of time to make amends. Republicans should be ashamed enough that theirs is the party that stood in the way of interracial marriage and civil rights. Is that really a legacy the GOP wants to continue into the 21st century? It seems to me the GOP has a choice between courting the open-minded next generation of voters, or continuing to be marred by scandals in which anti-gay Republican after anti-gay Republican is embarrassingly outed and shamed. Apparently this is a tough choice for the GOP, which would rather keep implicitly firing up bigotry than stand firm for equality.
.
.
The great leaders in history were not the ones who did what was popular, but those who did what was difficult – yet ultimately right. In standing up for marriage equality, President Obama showed that he has the capacity to be that kind of leader. Here’s hoping Republicans will follow his lead.
———————————————-
http://blogs.reuters.com/great-debate/2012/05/09/republicans-could-join-obama-on-same-sex-marriage/
This isn’t quite right. Many Republicans during that period were strong supporters of Civil Rights. Mitt Romney’s father was one of them as a matter of fact. Republicans in Congress gave LBJ the votes he needed on several pieces of landmark legislation. It was way too many Southern Democrats who had issues.
Yes, that’s the way I remember it too.
You are absolutely right, derbingle. But, ever since Richard Nixon’s Southern Strategy (really started with Goldwater in 1964) former Southern segregationists Democrats (Dixiecrats) changed parties and became Republicans. Reagan accelerated the conversion of Dixiecrats into Republicans. That’s why Biden is so right when he says that the current Republican party is not the same as the Republican party of their grandfathers.
I’m wondering if the applause for PBO in Seattle today will be even MORE enthusiastic now that he has come out in favor of SSM?
Those 2 ads are going to run in Florida-
http://www.politico.com/blogs/burns-haberman/2012/05/obama-up-with-two-new-ads-in-florida-123047.html
….. John Lauber, a soft-spoken new student one year behind Romney, was perpetually teased for his nonconformity and presumed homosexuality. Now he was walking around the all-boys school with bleached-blond hair that draped over one eye, and Romney wasn’t having it.
“He can’t look like that. That’s wrong. Just look at him!” an incensed Romney told Matthew Friedemann, his close friend in the Stevens Hall dorm, according to Friedemann’s recollection. Mitt, the teenaged son of Michigan Gov. George Romney, kept complaining about Lauber’s look, Friedemann recalled.
A few days later, Friedemann entered Stevens Hall off the school’s collegiate quad to find Romney marching out of his own room ahead of a prep school posse shouting about their plan to cut Lauber’s hair. Friedemann followed them to a nearby room where they came upon Lauber, tackled him and pinned him to the ground. As Lauber, his eyes filling with tears, screamed for help, Romney repeatedly clipped his hair with a pair of scissors.
The incident was recalled similarly by five students, who gave their accounts independently of one another.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/mitt-romneys-prep-school-classmates-recall-pranks-but-also-troubling-incidents/2012/05/10/gIQA3WOKFU_story.html?hpid=z2
What kind of a sick animal does that to people. How sick and so bankrupt of moral character does one have to get to do this to another human being. A prank? Assaulting someone just because they don’t conform to your narrow warped views. He’s a sick cretin. An outright disgusting piece of filth. I’m tweeting the hell out of this story. This is inhumane.
Hi UT, I know it was 50 (?) years ago and lots of kids did crazy things in their youth, but the cruelty of this really stunned me. It’s just a measure of the man, I think.
There’s crazy and there’s mean, there’s cruel. This was a cruel kid who grew up to use his cruelty and ruthlessness to become wealthy at the expense of people’s lives. He did it to his dog.
There are many ways to exert yourself as a young person. We have all done things we’re not proud of as we grow up and learn the error and consequences of his actions. In the 50 years since this incident we have no indication that Romney is anything but a bully who believes he is entitled to a special place in the universe and he is free to deny that place to others.
He’s a monster. I’m tell you guys. he was never moderate. He is a liar and a monster with literally no soul. He may be the most dangerous man to ever run for President.
Is has been clear to me for some time now, years actually, that Romney is incapable of feeling remorse, and has no moral compass. How anyone could vote for him is beyond help.
He’s a sociopath. however I have come to believe that most Republicans are sociopathic. In order to accept the current Republican party you have to be without remorse. That is the textbook definition of sociopath.
Ayn Rand was a sociopath who supported and revered one of the most heinous murderers in modern history because he ‘followed his own path’. This is what Romney equates with ‘success’. these are immensely dangerous people.
wow
The whole story was sickening. I am glad it is all coming out. As 1jam4pbo said the last thread, the thugs and their media minions were rooting around for things that happened even before Obama was born.
This feller was born nasty.
I can’t imagine a worse combination in a human being, nasty with a sense of entitlement. I utterly loathe this creep.
The worse thing that he and his campaign flat out lying about these horrible incidents with the typical rethug “I don’t recall” bs. Fucking coward. Typical bully.
Around the same age Obama was discussing psychology, philosophy and DEEP poetry with a girlfriend….
Not sure if anyone saw this, but under his governorship, Romney defunded a Hate Crimes Task Force in 2003. Not surprising, considering he always liked to bully people around anyways. http://www.edgeboston.com/news//news//52152/patrick_to_revive_hate_crimes_task_force
Can’t you just see his smug, shit-eating grin, sociopathic, idiot self doing that!
Republicans Want To Make The Election About Bedrooms, Not Boadrooms
By Robert Reich
—————————————
Meanwhile, Republicans have introduced over four hundred bills in state legislatures aimed at limiting womens’ reproductive rights – banning abortions, requiring women seeking abortions to have invasive ultra-sound tests beforehand, and limiting the use of contraceptives.
The Republican bedroom crowd doesn’t want to talk about the nation’s boardrooms because that’s where most of their campaign money comes from. And their candidate for president has made a fortune playing board rooms like checkers.
Yet America’s real problems have nothing to do with what we do in our bedrooms and everything to do with what top executives do in their boardrooms and executive suites.
—————————————
http://www.businessinsider.com/of-bedrooms-and-boardrooms-2012-5
I just love hearing him say, “I’m Barack Obama…”
If anyone knows what it’s like to be an “outsider” it’s PBO. He grew up neither this nor that, neither here nor there…..part of one, part of another, he better than anyone on the political scene understands the marginalized. We all talked a year ago about the line from the book about his mother wherein he was being taunted by kids in Indonesia, and the person talking with his mom wanted her to stop it. And she replied to the effect that he’s used to it, and has to learn how to deal with it. Well, he did, he has, and he does. We hate to see him have to, but he has learned to deal without hating, and has truly exemplified the Golden Rule. I am always in awe of his attitudes and actions.
I think again of the line from Julius Caesar: “Why, man, he doth bestride the narrow world like a Colossus, and all us petty men run around peeping through his legs.” He does this to us all the time, but so many eyes are blind.
Thanks Carolyn, I heard that Julius Caesar qoute a long time ago and I was trying to remember it, now I do.
Excellent.
Good morning, TODville!! It’s a new day.
I’m glad to see our POTUS with those headlines. As you can imagine, the champagne was flowing in SF.
FORWARD.
Nice piece. http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/politics/2012/05/why_obama_s_approval_matters_so_much_to_gay_people_.html
We’ve been impatient for Obama to “evolve already,” but it’s worth remembering that the president’s evolution is in many ways an echo of the LGBT movement’s. And some of us are still moving, too: We’re not all clear on why we should be keen, in light of history, to value the moral approval of others.
But check it out: President Obama took a political risk. For us, and for what he thinks is right. He showed moral courage. Yes, he did it with plenty of calculation, at a time of his (or Joe Biden’s) choosing. And maybe he was thinking as much about helping himself with moderates who warm to the idea of standing up for principle as he was about doing the right thing. It will be easier for Obama to cast Mitt Romney as lacking a moral core when he’s not twisting in the wind himself. And embodying the future instead of the past is an asset in any campaign. All of a sudden, Mitt Romney’s support for a constitutional amendment barring same-sex marriage seems Neanderthal.
How different it might have been had Obama started out where he ended up—a full supporter of genuine equality, affirming gays instead of merely tolerating them. Then again, the same goes for LGBT people themselves. Which might help explain why gay people care so much about the president’s approval—it mirrors our own. In him, we see ourselves.
“affirming gays instead of merely tolerating them”. This is BS on the part of the author. I bet the author didn’t even listened to the interview. President Obama displays compassion and authenticity.
Good Morning TOD Family. I feel positively giddy today. The joy I feel about our amazing President Barack Obama is overwhelming.
lets do the giddy dance ladyhawke. Proud moment
Hmmm…karma…karma…
HEADLINE: Americans Elect’s Enthusiasm Gap
//Nearly two years ago, former junk-bond financier Peter Ackerman founded Americans Elect in hopes of fielding an independent presidential candidate in 2012. The organization’s big idea was that a diverse field of contenders would compete in a series of online caucuses, bypassing the party system and “politics as usual.” The resulting “nonpartisan” ticket, consisting of a Democrat and a Republican, would seize the popular imagination and the rest would be history.
Yet by last week, not a single candidate had qualified for Americans Elect’s first online caucus, forcing the group to push it back to May 15. This week, after a midnight deadline passed on Tuesday morning and there were still no qualified candidates, the caucus was moved again, to May 22. //

The White House announced Thursday that President Obama signed an executive order instructing government agencies to continually scrutinize existing rules “to see if they really make sense.”
“Smart rules can save lives and keep us safe, but there are some regulations that don’t make sense and cost too much,” Obama said in a statement. “We will remain vigilant when it comes to eliminating regulations that are not necessary or that impose unnecessary burdens on America’s families and businesses.”

Thank you, UT. This needs to go far and wide. And he’s still assaulting people with his non-stop lies.
GOING ALL IN
By Steve Benen
————————————-
In a way, this was a test unto itself: Obama was willing to take a bold stand on a controversial issue, but how forceful would he be in standing by the move? If the president and his campaign are worried about a possible backlash, would they downplay the announcement?
Apparently not. The Obama campaign’s homepage features a large box along the top with a quote from the president: “Same-sex couples should be able to get married.” It’s also created a separate page just to tout the president’s position, which was unveiled in a fundraising letter the campaign sent out last night on the issue, urging supporters to “weigh in … on behalf of marriage equality.”
The response, Zeke Miller reported, has been swift and positive.
.
.
Given the initial reaction to the news, yesterday may mark a turning point in the larger campaign: a point at which the left shifted from supporting Obama to being excited about him again. And as we saw in 2010, enthusiasm matters.
—————————————
http://maddowblog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/05/10/11636803-going-all-in?lite
Not sure what Benen is talking about considering many of us on the left never lost our excitement and enthusiasm.
He’s talking about all the whiny liberals who stayed home in 2010.
I love Steve Benen..I’ll never get over missing him on Political Animal. I got one of those “weigh Ins” from PObama and donated too just to give him my heartfelt and monetary support!
Grazie, Ladyhawke!
I was just wondering if PBO was going to do any TV while in LA. Guess not.
But I just saw a tweet that he’ll be appear on ABC’s “The View” on Tuesday, to be taped on Monday. Don’t watch daytime TV but I’ll have to find out when it airs.
Really? It usually airs at 11ET, not sure about the west coast
Thanks, ck!
Again, congrats on a stellar semester and advancing to your Senior year!
Thanks!
This IS the 21st century, right? How religious organizations have yet to evolve……sad.
http://www.azcentral.com/sports/preps/articles/2012/05/09/20120509school-balks-over-having-face-girl-state-title-game.html
All second baseman Paige Sultzbach wanted to do was play in her school’s state championship baseball game tonight.
But because she is a girl, that won’t happen.
Sultzbach is a freshman at Mesa Preparatory Academy, which had been scheduled to play Our Lady of Sorrows Academy in tonight’s Arizona Charter Athletic Association state championship at Phoenix College.
But Our Lady of Sorrows, a fundamentalist Catholic school in Phoenix that lost twice to Mesa Prep during the regular season, chose to forfeit the championship game rather than play a team fielding a female player.
Well, this IS a fundamentalist Catholic school. (Fundamentalist Catholics??) I wonder if they’re part of the movement that thinks that every Pope from John XXIII on has been illegitimate?
Are you freaking kidding me????????????????????????????????
Romney’s prep school days come under scrutiny: My Post colleague Jason Horowitz has the goods on a story that will drive much discussion today: Romney and his school buddies bullied a boy, John Lauber, with bleached-blond hair who had been relentlessly teased for presumed homosexuality…
As Lauber, his eyes filling with tears, screamed for help, Romney repeatedly clipped his hair with a pair of scissors.
From Greg Sargent.
I wonder if this guy made any comments about the President eating dog meat as a child…
I’m sure he did. BuzzFeed does the tabloid thing to excess.
Excellent point, meta! presstitutes carry on about PObama’s “GF” but will they cover up willard’s BULLYING?!
Tears, Texts And Hugs: How Politicians And Activists Reacted To Obama’s Gay Marriage News
———————–
“I’m going to cry when I say this to you,” Bye told TPM. “I mean, yesterday I felt like I was punched in the stomach.” Bye and her wife, Tracey Wilson, were the first gay couple to marry in the state of Connecticut. The North Carolina vote affected her more than she imagined, she said, and it made Obama’s announcement Wednesday afternoon that he supports same-sex marriage even sweeter. All day Wednesday, gay lawmakers and members of the governor’s administration in Connecticut, one of six states (along with the District of Columbia) that allow gay marriage, found one another and embraced in hugs. “It’s the last day of session, so we’re running up and down and trying to get bills passed,” Bye said. “But in the midst of this we’re finding each other.”
For the gay politicians and activists contacted by TPM, President Obama’s public support for their cause hits home in a wonderful way. “It’s funny ‘cause it’s not like anything passed,” Bye said. “It’s just the feeling that is so much more than I ever thought it would be.”

I LOVE THIS PRESIDENT WITH A PASSION…BUT, I CANNOT SUPPORT HIS MOST RECENT DECISION ON GAY MARRIAGE BECAUSE IT GOES AGAINST GOD’S LAW. I WILL PRAY FOR HIM…GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
With all due respect, you might want to check out this young man’s research into what the bible actually says about homosexuality. It may make you feel better about supporting gay people and their quest for equality. BTW, the reasearcher, Matthew Vines, comes from a conservative Christian background and he is also gay.

Sue, I hope you continue to vote for him. I know all the good you do for your community and I know you will continue that. Please, as a woman with my same name….please remember what it was like to be discriminated against because of the color of your skin. This is a civil rights issue. All Americans deserve to be treated equally. Everyone that has a job and pays taxes deserves the right to have the same rights as everyone else.
Love to you Sue, from another Sue…our name is of Hebrew derelict and means “Lily”!
You don’t have to approve of everything he does Sue, it’s enough that you love and support him.
Sue, I don’t agree with gay marriage. But that was President Obama’s opinion, and in no way did he tell me or order me that I had to agree with him. Sue I am sure you don’t agree with everything your pastor says. Is it pastor or priest ? President Obama is a good man. And please continue to pray for our President, pray for us all, because none is perfect, for sure not me. And I am still going to vote for him.
I have hate in my heart for the Republicans, but the Bible says love your enemies. Hard thing to do with these Republicans.
This is important, Sue and Anniebella. I DO support the President’s decision — but he’s also noted it’s his PERSONAL decision. He’s not declaring that others need to agree with him. And the government is SECULAR, not religious. (“The government of the United States is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion.” –George Washington)
I do also think it is important to understand the CONTEXT of the Old Testament. There is a lot left out. The Hebrews were entering into land in which temple prostitution, both male and female, was common. Although it’s not often mentioned, the “gods” of the Canaanites were quite often goddesses. It was primarily a society that held the great earth mother in high devotion and sexuality was celebrated as a gift of the gods/goddesses. One reason the O.T. is so adament about sexuailty relates to that context.
With love and with all due respect, the bible says a lot of things. For example it appears to support slavery. Do want all African Americans to return to slavery because scripture supports it? I don’t think you do. This is a civil rights issue. Gay people are citizens of this country who pay TAXES and have every right to expect the same equal treatment under the law and the same rights as everyone else.
Hi Sue – I had the same struggle with the statement when I viewed his as coming from the religious mandate. Eveingeorgia helped me through that.
If we think about this objectively we would recognize that this is a human rights issue as based on the Constitution that we swore as citizens to uphold and protect. Our laws demand that we do not discriminate. So, in that context, what PO did was just. We cannot and should not limit rights from one group while giving those same rights to another. It is that basic. If the issue was raised in that context on any ballot to any group, most would agree it is the right thing to do regardless of our personal faith.
No one is asking for a stamp of approval, what they deserve is our respect and the freedom to live their own lives.
Isn’t killing people against God’s law, too? He’s never shied away from ordering the deaths of many.
No it doesn’t. God loves everybody.

Hi all from Cluny. Congratulations on yesterday – very moving. What a disgusting story about Romney bullying that poor boy at his Prep school. I remember watching an interview with PBO where he said that the thing he couldn’t stand was cruel people. Obviously two very different men – kind of explains the ‘I like to fire people’ ‘not so concerned with the poor’ smug, alienated Romney talk. It drives me crazy that people – and always the media – elevate his economic cred – the only area where he consistently scores better than PBO – and with no evidence other than, yes, he made a lot of money for his greedy self – breaking up companies, piling on debt and laying people off. I think that everyone needs to always push back on that line – whenever it is uttered.
