Look I liked Art Linkletter just as much as the next person but that’s no reason for the President to pilfer the poor dead guy’s wardrobe. (Just having some fun with it folks)

I am a guy and I really don’t know much about clothes, but I thought that in Spring you were lighter colors. I think It was nice to see the President in a lighter suit. Any way I loved yesterday’s FLOTUS’ yellow outfit. I thought she looked really smashing!

Of course. The first words out of my mouth were: The President’s switched to a nice summer-weight suit. And Joe is still wearing pinstripes. He’ll never be a fashion icon.

    • May 12, 2012 at 2:50 pm

Amazing video, 4morefor44. Here is a person, who by PBO’s own soul searching found himself as young person and wanting. Yet this woman places everything in context and testifies re: PBO’s developing character/leadership traits.

Quite the contrast from Romney’s frantic search to find anyone who will dismiss his bullying.

What the hell was Capehart talking about? He is wearing that suit :-). I like it a lot :-)

    • May 12, 2012 at 2:01 pm

Agree. Looks mighty fine to me. Beautifully tailored and that is not a yellow tie—–much more subtle, classier.

      • May 12, 2012 at 11:46 pm

I think the color is nice but in the picture where he is standing pretty much facing straight ahead it does look rather ill-fitting. I think it’s partly because the shoulders seem broader than usual. But it does look like he’s wearing a bigger man’s suit to me.

  5. May 12, 2012 at 2:03 pm

Is that my president without the regulation blue or black suit? Maybe it’s Mrs, O Mother’s Day present, to see her husband outside his comfort zone?

    • 64 HZ
      May 12, 2012 at 3:33 pm

Our President looks delicious in that suit. I like to see a man walking with pride in whatever he is wearing. That is how POB will always come across to me and many who care so much about him. He gets it naturally. His father was a fine dresser and always looked fine in his clothes. His father also took great pride in how he looked in his clothes as well. His mother was a tapestry of all of the world. She loved the flowing, colorful prints, the comfort of her apparel, and the cultural awareness of how she wore and presented her feelings for those around her. I love the duel presentation of his parents in how he presents himself to the world in how he dresses. We all do that.

To this day, I carrry my appreciation styles of clothing, perfume, purses, shoes(oh, do not get be started on shoes), scarves, all in representation of my mother, father, grandmother and grandfather. That is who I am. I love it, and I love it about him. Our President is beautiful. I hope and pray that Malia and Sasha will choose men who will remind them of the beautiful father that they come from as well as the beautiful mother, our First Lady.

And being Mother’s Day tomorrow, I am sure we all have little warm, lovely, personally habits that will remind us of the beautiful mother who carried us for nine months and continued to comfort us, mold us, teach us, and totally nurtured us to be selective in our choice of clothing, friends, men, women, and close friends. And Lord knows so much more.

So I love his suit, and hopefully it will have a meaning to him that will remind him of the beautiful colourful parents that he was so blessed to be called by them, “My Son, Barack Obama”. and our President, Barack Obama. You looked great today and all days, Mr. President, and may your Mother’s Day Celebration be a glorious one for your lovely mother, your grandmother, and for your Rock, Michelle Obama. And do not forget First Grandmama.HZ

I actually think that the “regulation” dark blue and black suits weren’t his preference. In his earlier days as state senator and US Senator, he was frequently seen in lighter brown taupe, even light blue suits. I LIKE him in lighter non-traditional colors, but then I like men who venture just a bit outside of the average in their dress.

I remember a comedian joking about the insanity of menswear. How crazy it is for a man to start his day tying a noose around his neck.

Hello TOD family: what a week!! Personally, I am so glad it’s over. Not because of the dust up over SSM but work has been simply unreal. University of Miami will lay off 800 folks by the end of the summer. I lost 29 in my department, of which I know 12 personally. They were good people and they didn’t deserve this. They were given a package on Tuesday and escorted out the door. Some, where close to retirement, others are single parents, parenting all over again, one was even diagnosed with breast cancer. This has been a major shock to our system. I am distraught. I am angry. I am sad and as the days go by, I am getting angry. I miss my friends and I will never look at UM the same.
My job seems to be safe but I will be moving under central department. I should know more on Tuesday. However, keeping my job does not soothe my soul. My heart is broken in a gazillion pieces. My friendships are splattered as people try to pick up the pieces of this tragic event. I don’t know what to say or do when they look at me with empty tearful eyes. Please keep the UM friends/family in your prayers and me as well…and that I find the words to comfort them all. Thanks, Aunt Sis.

Actually, its all of the above + more. We over paid for HCA hospital to the tune of $200M+ and although the articles state the hospital is making a profit…..HOSPITALS never make PROFIT!! Especially in this economy, they lose money. They will surely try to sugarcoat it.

    • May 12, 2012 at 2:14 pm

Oh, Aunt Sis, my heart goes out to you. What a horrible day for all of you and especially for those who are vulnerable. It must be so painful to see this happen to your colleagues. Your governor is the WORST.

He is the worst but that what we get for not voting in 2010. Sorry, I am both bitter and angry today. A little history. Scott was CEO of HCA when we first looked into purchasing a hospital back in early 2000. The board put a stop to and as you know, HCA was investigated and charged with fraud. A few years afterwards, we purchase the same hospital at a lower but still significantly overpriced rate and Scott becomes governor.

I hesitate to post this because there is good and bad here, but it is a cautionary tale. Respected Dem pollster (also NBC/WSJ) Peter Hart calls the election a 50-50 proposition at this point. One key positive is Obama’s message of economic fairness which scores big across partisan lines. And the most key positive for me is the likability factor which greatly favors Obama: “With few exceptions, the candidate who is more appealing on a personal level usually wins. Romney lags Obama often by wide margins on compassion, consistency, caring about average people, honesty and straightforwardness.”

But the election isn’t a national election – it’s a 50 state election so national polls don’t mean a whole lot. In fact they are close to meaningless. It all comes down to swing states and POTUS needs only 17 electoral votes from these states: Colorado (9), Florida (29), Iowa (6), Nevada (6), New Hampshire (4), Ohio (18) and Virginia (13).

PBO looks great in just about anything but not loving the suit (he’s worn it many times before). Vice President Biden is a great dresser because his suits are always perfectly tailored. PBO should borrow his tailor – he would look even more smashing. Also, Mrs O needs to get him some decent (i.e. more modern) casual threads. It’s sweet that he doesn’t care about clothes but he’s the POTUS so should always look his best. But his dark suits are perfect and he looks divine. No one looks better in the plain white shirts and trousers than PBO. I wish he did that look again – now it’s only the check shirt and brown pants (that Willard copies). I know it’s shallow to obssess over the clothes but PBO is nice to look at when he’s dressed right. Mrs O looked gorgeous in the yellow she wore the other day – and her hair was perfect.

    • 84 globalcitizenlinda
      May 12, 2012 at 2:55 pm

FLOTUS, the kids and PBO himself say he never throws away everything. in fact he had only on tux by innaguration day and he had owned this forever (i think since his marriage to Mrs Obama). he ever replaces the soles of his shoes and some of his belts are torn leather. I get the impression that on issue of clothes, PBO does exactly what he wants

      • May 12, 2012 at 4:32 pm

I like this about Obama—-his priorities—-and I try not to notice the outer shallow stuff. But I am ready to donate that blue checked shirt to the future Obama museum about now. I wish he would just wear a polo style shirt for casual wear—–and maybe have someone pick up some new casual cotton non-pleated pants. He could order online! :) We laugh tho—–we always say—-‘there’s those brown pants again’. They’ve been on every vaca, every golf outing, every casual campaign trip. He’s sure getting his money’s worth out of his duds.

Is this a trip? If it is not, maybe Whitehouse.gov would be the more appropriate site to take this trip personally to the President since there is a question about him representing the office of The President of the United States. We surely would not want a suit color/ or unknown tailor or not be responsibile for our POTUS not looking like “a President of the United States.” ???HZ

We also stayed current with all of our data requirements, increased the skills sets of several volunteers and welcomed Marianne & Raissa into this great group!

SANAA, Yemen (AP) – Yemeni military officials say a U.S. drone strike has killed six suspected al-Qaeda militants.

They say Saturday’s attack took place near the border of Marib and Shabwa provinces southeast of the capital Sanaa.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity in line with military regulations.

The area hit is part of a large swath of territory in the south that al-Qaeda militants have held for months.

There was no immediate word from Washington on whether it was behind the attack.

In the past two weeks, Yemeni officials say U.S. drone strikes have killed at least three senior al-Qaeda operatives in the country’s south.

After releasing an immediate statement of support for President Barack Obama‘s decision to come out in favor of same-sex marriage on the National Action Network (NAN) website, Rev. Al Sharpton, joined by Civil Rights leaders Reverend Dr. Joseph Lowery, President Emeritus of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Melanie Campbell, President and CEO of the National Coalition for Black Civic Engagement, and Julian Bond, Chairman Emeritus of NAACP, have all joined to reaffirm their solid support of the president and to urge Black Americans not to be distracted from issues that directly impact our progression as a people

This old white lady thinks President Obama looks great whatever he wears…..his skin color is so beautiful all colors look beautiful with it. However, I do notice that this is an older suit with the single vent. In the last 3 years his suits have been the European (dare I say that?) double vent tailoring, which imoves so much better. On this bright spring day, he and his valet probably decided to go with a lighter color. I know he has a valet…..once he said that the two things he will miss a lot are the plane and his valet, sorry don’t have a link. Having a valet means he doesn’t have to worry about clothes at all. I’m sure his girls have a few words to say, my daughter sure did at a certain age, but I imagine he and the valet have final refusal. White House valets know what is needed and when.

    • May 12, 2012 at 4:39 pm

Hmmmm, are you sure about the valet? That valet must be really frustrated. “The brown pants and the blue checked again, sir?” But I agree he looks good in anything/everything. He has the perfect physique for clothes—-long and lean.

Oh. I have to share. Doesn’t have anything to do with politics, or maybe it does. Today is Katherine Hepburn’s birthday. She would have been 105 years old today. I had the honor and privilege of talking to her many times over the years…she lived not far from me in Ct, and I would see her frequently while shopping at the same butcher or grocery….The small town’s people were so proud of their special citizen, but they gave her the privacy that she deserved. She was always very kind, and I dare say, one of the most incredible human beings that I ever had the pleasure to meet. I miss her today. TCM is running her movies all day…I could be such a couch potato and just watch one after the other…if you get the chance watch her autobiography, “All About Me.” I don’t know if this is the entire movie, but here is what I found on YouTube. Settle in, and admire this incredible woman.

    • 145 desertflower
      May 12, 2012 at 4:45 pm

Some of these make you watch on YouTube, so I won’t post any more….if you go to YT, you will see all the next parts listed on the right side and can click the next one. She was a strong woman, one that was the daughter of a Dr, and a mother that was a feminist in the early 1900’s…she fought for birth control and the right for women to determine when and IF to have families of their own. In the 21 st century, why are we STILL fighting these battles yet again?

DF, Katherine Hepburn was the best and I loved her in everything she did. I had the privilege of going to school at her alma mater, Bryn Mawr, where her antics are still legendary. It was only later that I learned that the scholarship that allowed me to graduate was provided by Katherine Hepburn, It felt so very, very honored to have even the smallest share of her great legacy. I’ve seen great actresses come and go in my time, but there will never be anyone like her. She was such a revolutionary. Such an inspiration to women everywhere.

Just a thought reading all of our obsessing over how POTUS looks……did anyone CARE what Shrub looked like or what he wore? I told my husband that POTUS has such a physique that he could wear a JCPenney “wash-n-wear” suit (anyone else old enough to remember those?) and look good. However, a $2,000 hand-tailored Savile Row suit wouldn’t make Shrub look good…….what a difference!!!

      • May 12, 2012 at 5:05 pm

I can’t remember one thing W wore—–except his jeans and the wide leather belt at the fake Crawford ranch—-because Tweety drooled about it.

      • 167 jackiegrumbacher
        May 12, 2012 at 5:26 pm

Carolyn, the difference is that GWB had zero and I do mean zero sex appeal. I thought it was the most asexual of all the presidents ever in the WH, or at least in my memory. So it wouldn’t have mattered what he wore. It just didn’t have the “it” factor. You either have it or you don’t and he DID NOT have it.

      • May 12, 2012 at 5:32 pm

No it wouldn’t. Shrub always looked like a slob, a frat boy waking up from a long hangover and not caring about the way he presented himself or the way he came across. I never did like the way he looked. It’s the same with Romney to an extent. Romney wears nice suits, but the way he looks is creepy. Maybe that’s because I know Obama is a decent, caring individual and you can see it in his looks. When Romney smiles, it’s insincere. When he tries to act like an average joe with those ridiculous dress shirts and awful jeans, he comes off as phony as a 3 dollar bill.

I am watching “Guess who’s coming to dinner”. It’s funny, I image seven years before this movie was made the Presidents’ parents were probably going through the same thing. I can just imagine Stanley Ann bring home Barack Obama Sr to Mr and Mrs Dunham. I read the book, A Singular Woman and the reaction described in the book was kinda close.

Jojo, it was supposed to be a courageous film at the time, as dated as it seems today. They had to make the Sydney Poitier so perfect–brilliant, an internationally recognized MD, a humanitarian. In a way that’s what Obama Sr. aspired to be (minus the MD). Incredible that their son exceeded everybody’s expectations, hopes, dreams.

  34. May 12, 2012 at 5:30 pm

President Barack Obama looks extremely handsome in the new suit color. It’s good, it makes him stand out among the crowd. He took my breath away with this new look, head to toe, tie and all! ;-)

  35. May 12, 2012 at 5:30 pm

Loved this movie but it was kind of unrealistic, more of a teaching/learning moment of how it could be and should be when it was first released. I suppose movies are supposed to do that anyway…have a kind of fantasy aspect to them. No matter..Sydney was as delicious as the Prez.

Where was this and what is the significance; it brought tears to my eyes: I have such respect for the close relationship they have. But I had to wade through comment after comment about our President’s suit before I got to the end, that and the negative remarks about the Clinton administration; what gives?
