I am so glad the U.S. finally joined the rest of the world. That guy in the picture with our lovely First Lady is one of the best soccer players in the world. Like I posted in the previous thread, Mitt must have told his handlers in the media to kiss his ass. It’s nothing BUT kiss Mitt’s Ass on every network.

The thing is Mitt has NO grassroots organization. You don’t see signs or bumper stickers for Mitt. All it looks like he is capable of doing is buying ads.

On the flip side, team Obama is hitting Mitt hard with the Bain stuff, and the right are whining. But they should be complaining to Rick Perry and Newt Gingrich, they are the ones who began the Bain Bombshell back in February. Add that in with the Bush endorsement of Romney, and Romney’s ship will sink fast, and the media will have to accept it.

If there’s any lingering doubt about whether rapper Jay-Z is an Obama supporter, as he was in 2008, the hip-hop megastar dispelled it today.

In an interview with CNN, Jay-Z said President Obama is a better choice for the country than Mitt Romney “by leaps and bounds.”

The rapper praised Obama’s recent support for same-sex marriage, saying the issue “is still holding the country back.”

“You can chose to love whoever you love; that’s your business,” Jay-Z, 42, said. “It’s no different than discrimination against blacks. It’s discrimination plain and simple.”

Rep. McMorris Rodgers graduated from Pensacola Christian College, an unaccredited fundamentalist Independant Baptist college in Pensacola, FL. according to Wikipedia. Her education may be lacking, and fundamentalists seem to consider women second class. She is a good mouthpiece for Republicans on women issues.

It’s interesting that the GOP are finally letting her speak (even if it’s to stab women in the back). They usually just drag her out to stand next to them at the podium as they speak, to extend the charade that there are women in the GOP who actually have any clout.

Didn’t CNN have a poll which said President lead Romney by 16 with women. Now all of a sudden CNN is having a round table. So the reason the President is losing women votes is why? According to the anti-Obama media.

      • 59 anniebella
        May 15, 2012 at 4:25 pm

Women can like Ann Romney, respect her, but it is all about her husband policies, and how he supports all these anti-women policies. The women who are against Planned Parenthood being closed, the women who are against their birth control being taken away, the women who does not support all the laws passed to prevent them from having a abortion, these women who was pissed off with Limbaugh attack on Ms. Fluke, the Blunt Amendment, not passing the violence against women law, all these things and more are the Republicans policies and Romney supports these policies. So women have a President who stands up for them, who fight for them, and they are leaving that President for what.

Two suspected U.S. drone strikes killed seven al Qaeda militants and eight civilians in the southern part of Yemen on Tuesday, three Yemeni security officials said.

It was the latest of several U.S. strikes in Yemen, which is home to al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, described by U.S. officials as the al Qaeda affiliate that poses the most serious threat to the United States.

At least seven civilians were injured in the Tuesday strikes, the officials said.

Across Yemen, at least 35 people were killed, including 24 militants, officials said.

The United States has increased the pace of airstrikes in Yemen in the last few years. At least 24 of 31 such strikes conducted since 2002 have happened in the last two years, according to the Long War Journal, which analyzes how the U.S. conducts its fight against terrorism.

According to the security officials, one of Tuesday’s strikes targeted a militant hideout in Jaar district, a militant stronghold. Another strike targeted a home believed to be harboring militants in the same district.

Three senior al Qaeda leaders were among those killed, the officials said.

Poll: Voters think Obama will win
By BYRON TAU | 5/15/12 3:02 PM EDT
A new survey shows that a clear majority of Americans believe that President Obama will win reelection — even if many would prefer he didn’t.

A Gallup survey released Tuesday shows that 56 percent of voters believe Obama will win, versus just 36 percent who believe Romney will win. That includes 58 percent of independents, and 81 percent of Democrats.

Gallup’s head-to-head voter matchup shows Romney and Obama essentially tied, so it’s unclear why voters give Obama a 20-point advantage over Romney. Gallup reports that a similar preference vs. expected win gap showed up in 2004, when voters expected George W. Bush to be reelected by a 10-point margin even as the electorate split evenly on whether he deserved it.

    But CNN CNN…

Franciscan University Drops Entire Student Health Insurance Plan Over Birth Control Mandate

Franciscan University of Steubenville, a Catholic institution in Ohio, has decided to drop its entire student health insurance plan as of the fall semester 2012 because of the new federal rule requiring contraception coverage under most employee and student health policies. While a number of religious colleges have filed lawsuits over the birth control requirement, Franciscan is the first to get rid of its student health plan.

“The Obama Administration has mandated that all health insurance plans must cover ‘women’s health services’ including contraception, sterilization, and abortion-causing medications as part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA),” the school announced on its website. “Up to this time, Franciscan University has specifically excluded these services and products from its student health insurance policy, and we will not participate in a plan that requires us to violate the consistent teachings of the Catholic Church on the sacredness of human life.”

The people on those shows just have to have something to fill the time. They have to stir up controversy because they want viewers. This will happen up and down until October. Everything they say is speculation, not facts. This is their job…..who watches them but a few dedicated people? Of course President Obama hasn’t lost his lead with women in one week….that’s stupid. Now, that these “polls” say he’s down, the next ones will show him SLOWLY climbing to give the same people something to talk about. This is all a seesaw…..let Mittens have his time now…it won’t last.
I love President Obama’s attitude: “Anyone with the name Barack Obama is the underdog.” That’s how he faces all his races….no overconfidence with him. He and his committee love it when these polls say silly things. Gives them more motivation, and they know we get more motivated too. Imagine what it would be like if the polls all showed him leading like he probably is? We and the entire election committee would take it easy…..there’s none of that.
Do these far right religious fundamentalists realize that Barak is the name of a respected judge in the Old Testament? I bet they don’t….or if they’ve read it, they’ve denied it. His name has a long and honorable history.

    • May 15, 2012 at 4:27 pm

Only problem is, right after last election, they had 3 or 4 polls per day! Slowly started showing the GOP with a lead, and then the self fulfilling prophecy set in.
These polls are manipulating, which is another reason why they do it! Psychology!

If L.A. had decent public transport we’d ditch one of the cars. As it is, if I were to take the bus to work, it would take me 70 minutes, as opposed to 15 by driving. It’s ridiculous. And I live only 7 miles from work.

            • May 15, 2012 at 5:37 pm

Same here in Seattle, I live 5 miles from work, at present, it can take up to 25 minutes. But from my neighborhood it is a two or three bus transfer, over an hour and a half each way! However, our wonderful governor has given the go ahead on light rail, which is in progress and looking great, but won’t be running until 2016! It will make a huge difference tho!

Is Seattle relatively compact? That makes a big difference. L.A. is just a huge glop. I wish we still had the Red Cars from days of yore. They went everywhere. Instead, we ripped them up.

Yes, LA has its own special needs and it’s a real car culture. Unfortunately, I don’t think there will ever be a great solution. It’s also unfortunate from a clean air perspective.

When I was in slavery to the telecom industry, I worked downtown. First I took the train—Green Line to Blue Line. Took about 45 minutes, and I had to drive to the train station. Outlawing HEMP was the target when WR HEARST and the Lumber Lobby went after outlawing pot, so HEMP wouldn’t be grown for paper. Hemp paper is cheaper, takes up less space, grows faster, and grows damned near anywhere!

There are so many other controversies that the media could find on the GOP and Willard, yet they seem to get bent out of shape searching far and wide to come up with contradictory polls, silly stories about normal things that PBO did 20-30 years ago, BS about PBO’s family or his cabinet, etc.

So now some of the Democrats in Wisconsin are complaining that they need money to fight against Walker in the up coming elections, maybe if they would have listened to President Obama when he damn near lost his voice trying to tell the Wisconsin Democrats not to give Walker the keys to the car. They would not have to go out with hat in hand pleading for money.

I hope the CNN/CBS Poll is true, if we stupid enough to vote Romney into office, we deserve every and anything he sends our way.

Health Insurance will morph into boutique coverage, because no one with a functioning brain stem will stay with the commercial/private/FOR PROFIT carriers after the NON-PROFITS come online in 2014, who will offer BETTER PLANS for LESS MONEY because they won’t have $12million CEOs to pay and stocks to sell.

Those NON-PROFITS will be allowed to merge across state lines to offer larger risk pools, eventually merging nationwide, and *POOF* we have SINGLE PAYER.

The insurance companies who will lose big if the SCOTUS says it’s unconstitutional to REQUIRE someone to BUY INSURANCE, are all the legit insurance companies who sell AUTO, HOMEOWNERS, FIRE, FLOOD, EQ, etc etc etc…. Because ya see, if you aren’t REQUIRED to carry health insurance while ALIVE, then you shouldn’t be required to carry AUTO IF YOU DRIVE.
      :D

Athens – In a run on banks associated with recent elections and government economic insolvency, Greek depositors withdrew €700 million ($898 million) from local banks Monday.

President Karolos Papoulias warned Greek political leaders on Tuesday that banks were in trouble and that withdrawals plus buy orders received by Greek banks for German bonds totalled some 800 million, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

In a transcript, Mr. Papoulias said “the strength of banks is very weak right now;” The President cited a conversation he had with Greek Central Bank Governor George Provopoulos.

Why is no-one talking about this on the news, and instead focusing on lying Romney? Isn’t this the kind of world he wants to create – a second great depression where the citizens make a run on the banks to save their last dollars from the greedy few? This is bad news.

Interesting perspective on these latest “polls” :

From a post at Daily Kos:

“I know we all have a tendency to freak out when a poll comes out showing Romney beating Obama in a head-to-head national matchup. This is certainly the case with the new CBS/ New York Times poll that came out yesterday, showing Romney in the lead by several percentage points.

    .

Well, you can come down off that ledge because I discovered that at this stage in the 2004 election, Kerry led G.W. Bush by 8 points, 49-41, in a CBS News poll conducted on 5/20-5/23, 2004.

Moreover, Bush’s job approval/disapproval numbers sat at 41/52, much worse than where Obama’s are now.

    http://www.cbsnews.com/

Plus, in the month of May that year, Kerry led in most of the polls, though not by as wide a margin as this one.

Loved James Lipton’s take on Tweet on Willard’s fake laughter—–which he diagnosed as fake—–said there’s no real mirth there, is not genuine.
Everything about Willard is fakey, not genuine.

I’d love it if someone could ask these 40% exactly what policies or facts they’re supporting. I heard one person say on the radio over the weekend that she imagines his record as governor is good – clearly, she hasn’t even bothered to check.

Tweet DWS, Steve Israel about the situation in WI. The polls are not looking good (another one today). Walker has been bombarding the airwaves with Koch bros and out of state money for months. Repubs also have a ground game. This recall will be considered a referendum about Democratic support for everything and everyone — well — Democratic. If you can send a few bucks to Barrett, that’s great. But I think the optics of the DNC supporting this recall is immensely important. If you read the diary you will see that those that have been working for this for over a year are demoralized and we cannot afford to let that happen.

I was born and raised in WI but it’s not about my home state. It’s about how Democrats will be viewed if they let this one slip by.

Finally watched part (the non-Ron Christie part – I cannot stand him) of Martin Bashir’s show. Martin is so humorous. He mentioned George W was caught by a reporter while getting onto an elevator, and said W responded – just as the elevator doors closed – with a quick “I support Mitt Romney.” Martin added, “Going down, sir?” Loved it!

CHART: Spending, Taxes, And Deficits Are All Lower Today Than When Obama Took Office

The fact is that Obama inherited a disaster of a federal budget. Eight years prior, when President George W. Bush took the oath of office, there was a $281 billion surplus. By the time Obama was sworn in, he was facing a $1.2 trillion deficit. Inconvenient though it may be for conservatives (especially those who are running for president), the truth is that spending, taxes and the deficit are all lower today than when President Obama took office.

If Chuck Todd isn’t getting paid by the Romney campaign, he is wasting so much effort on his behalf. The report he gave on the Nightly News was the most skewed thing imaginable. Women now prefer Romney, here’s Obama on The View trying to win them back. Here’s the most nebulous cuts from his appearance on the View. I had to spend a lot of time cutting away all the remarkable and endearing moments and just show you these short little tidbits cut off before Obama got to the point of what he was saying. Here’s Romney giving his speech on the economy which he promises to save. Here he is downgrading Obama and his policies. I’m going to let this play for a while. Romney is a businessman and knows how to create jobs.
    It was disgusting.
