Lots more photos here – but there are no captions, so I don’t know who most of these people are :???:
Nice very very nice
Three winners with the same time!
Thanks Chips. GM ;)
I’d like to see PBO grow in his facial hair. I bet he’d look really good. Random but I always see his mustache/goatee stubble in close up photos :D
No, I don’t think it would suit him.
Have you seen this pic? He looks good w/ it to me.
collegekay, it is a nice looking picture of POTUS. The girls are right cute.
Sasha is one of the cutest babies I’ve ever seen. Look at that little profile and all that chubbiness!
Agree—no facial hair.
Maybe in 2017, but not yet. He looks handsome no matter what.. I kinda like that soft dark around his face where the hairs grow, it fascinates me deeply… Uh oh, did I just write that and post it?
Naughty mat’s out so early in the morning? That’s gotta be a record! :)
Good Morning Chips and TOD family. I will go immediately and help Chips get the Naughty Mats out. This is going to be such a beautiful day to chill out. It is hot on the West Coast and only early am., so I am going to relax and so I can get ready to make calls to Iowa for my commitment for today. Keep me in your prayers. Heat/Heart. Love you all very much.HZ
Hey HZ – nice to see you. Enjoy the sun for those of us locked in conference rooms! :)
Ok. Serious question. Does Tapper’s wife NOT have a bra? All that money for not doing his job and his wife can’t find a bra? Sorry….catty, I know…but for crying out loud, she’s meeting the President!
Agree with you DF. That’s what caught my eye first.
Thanks, Jackie…I’m NOT as crazy as I thought! Poor taste, is all…ok at the MTV music awards…NOT to meet the President!
Just to pile on, Jake looks like he’s been hitting the doughnut circuit.
Pile on all you want, on that dork. :)
Is that the one in the pink dress, flopping around?
I liked her dress. Maybe she has a new kind of bra that you can’t see. :)
Yup, it’s called the invisible bra.
Okay, the lady in read was loving that hug too much, then the next guy down was acting like Amk would if he got to hug Flotus (ha!). Seriously, everyone on the global stage understands how great our POTUS/FLOTUS are.
Who is that guy ? Grrrr.
I didn’t see your comment before I posted mine down thread. Said the same thing. who is she?
Lady in red was swooning, but can anyone blame her?
Thank Chips. What a beautiful couple!!
Cool pics, even Faux guy Ed Henry ’cause I just can’t be mad at his wife and kids! :)
Ed Henry has abeautiful family. Too bad he is such an schmuck.
My sentiments, exactly.
Our FLOTUS is just so beautiful! The guy next to her is not bad ;-)
5th photo down, notice how the guy’s hand is way around FLOTUS’ waist?! LOL!
Is all well with you?
My eye went right there. I thought to myself, guy you are a little too cozy with our FLOTUS.
Lovely pics. Beautiful First Couple!
Wow! What a beautiful First Couple. No wonder the RWNJ’s go crazy. They have nothing even close to this. We are blessed!

‘Adults’ don’t hold the nation hostage
By Steve Benen
I thought of this yesterday when McConnell told CBS’s Bob Schieffer, referencing House Speaker John Boehner, “The Speaker and I have been the adults in the room.”
Ah yes, thank goodness for the adults. McConnell and Boehner (1) backed the Bush/Cheney agenda that added $5 trillion to the debt; (2) decided they no longer liked raising the debt ceiling; (3) held the nation hostage, threatening to hurt the country on purpose unless they got their way; and (4) rejected a White House offer to reduce the debt by $4 trillion.
Nothing says “grown-up behavior” like the antics of an elementary schoolyard bully.
Nice try, McFlaccid.
McConnell is a liar, surprise, surprise, surprise.
Everybody knows that it’s President Obama who is the only adult in the room. So now McConnell wants to try and copy that too. What a joke? It’s infuriating to me that the Republican Party is being treated like they are a credible opposition party on these Sunday shows. The proper response from Bob Schieffer to this nonsense from McConnell should have been to laugh out loud in his face. What a joke?
Wait a minute, what is that lady in red doing with POTUS? Haha!

LOL! Fox News is saying that Solyndra is Robneys answer to the Bain attacks.
Is that all they got? I expected more out of Rove!
High expectations from a low achiever, we shall celebrate soon! Rove, ugh, I can barely stand to type his name, will be in the crying pit along with the rest of the losers who think they are adults because they inhabit grown up bodies. I taught pre-schoolers who had more moral sense.
Solyndra – funding request started under Bush’s Administration. At a strong disadvantage to China because China reinforcing it’s solar industry with steep incentives and undercutting prices of competitors. Private businesses in US taking advantage of China’s deeply lower prices and buying Chinese goods instead of supporting their own American made products (a condition the GOP like to refer to as “the free market” and not “picking winners and losers”). Obama Administration responds with charges against China of dumping their solar products in US and a proposal to enact steep tariffs – retroactively. Plus, Mitt himself has said that some businesses succeed and others don’t – “that’s how America works”.
Let Mitt try and use Solyndra. He’ll walk into a trap of his own making.
Beautiful photos of our pres and first lady! That one head shot of PBO! Whoa! Exquisite!

Hi everyone. Hope you’re all getting a good start on the week. Me I’m counting the hours to my B’day on Thursday. I get to be FLOTUS age. Born the same year. Where did all the time go between blissful childhood and now? ugh What do y’all suggest I do to mark that day besides amk telling me to load up on the liquor :D?
Hey, you can never go wrong with G&T with ice & lemon wedge. Nevah.

Aah amk I knew you would come long with “unhelpful” advice, but I love you anyway (platonic, I mean. I don’t want your wife tearing my eyes out). Yep I will toast myself for having come along this far. Dear hubby is out saving the world and can’t make it back in-country b/4 my special day.
He says we should plan a gettaway for June to celebrate both my day & our wedding anniversary. I chuckled cuz I already know that the entire trip will be filled with argument after argument. But it’s all good. That’s the whole point of a 24 yr marriage; you learn to righteously turn every molehill into a Mount Everest, and insist on your version of the mountain. Ha!
Thanks y’all for the recommendations on what to do. I’ll be HAPPY no matter what happens. Cheers in advance!
I hope you have a fantastic day this Thursday – plus in June. How about a spa day, brunch, shopping! Just pamper yourself silly!

Is Congress getting dumber, or just more plainspoken?
The sophistication of federal lawmakers’ speech patterns is on the decline, with members of Congress now talking, on average, at the level of high school sophomores. According to a new report by the Sunlight Foundation, Congress has fallen by almost a full grade-level since 2005.
The members speaking at the lowest grade levels tend to be freshmen Republicans.
As NPR noted on Monday, “Of the 10 members speaking at the lowest grade level, all but two are freshmen, and every one is a Republican.” That measurement is for all speeches since 1996.
“Particularly among the newest members of Congress, as you move out from the center and toward either end of the political spectrum, the grade level goes down, and that pattern is particularly pronounced on the right,” said Lee Drutman, a political scientist at Sunlight.

A little more detail on Nick Hanauer’s excellent take on income inequality in the U.S. and the politics behind trying to keep his ideas quiet:
MAINSTREAM MEDIA CAN’T ADMIT THE “BOTH SIDES DO IT” MEME IS HOGWASH
If a provocative thesis falls in a forest…
Political scientists Tom Mann and Norm Ornstein — celebrated and respected figures of the Washington establishment — recently argued in an impressive op-ed, “Let’s just say it: The Republicans are the problem.” It seemed like the kind of piece that would spur some debate within the political establishment. That hasn’t quite happened.
So, what’s the problem? Why are Mann and Ornstein missing from the major Sunday shows? Where’s the debate? There are competing explanations for this, though I continue to think much of this is the result of “rules” that dominate much of the establishment’s discourse.
As we discussed a month ago, when it comes to the establishment discussing what ails the American system, the rules dictate that “both sides” are always to blame for everything in all instances. Even if reality clearly shows one party more responsible than the other, no one’s allowed to say so — to assign responsibility to those who deserve it is to be biased and irresponsible.
And these two violated the rules.
Worse, they chastised those who wrote the rules:
I don’t watch Rachel regularly anymore. Has she invited Mann and Ornstein on her show ??
Ahhhh….we finally get to see the full length view of Michelle’s dress. SMASHING! It’s amazing how she consistently outshines everybody at these events — celebrities, models, starlets, she outdoes them all. Go FLOTUS! Love her.
The woman was born for formal wear. Impeccable.
Indeed, meta. Her beige NATO outfit yesterday simply blew me away.
That beige suit was perfection and she. wore. the. hell. out. of. it.
Willard and the media were so hoping to make Ms. Ann into their very on “Michelle.” Alas, their efforts failed. So sad…so sad…
ROMNEY COMES ACROSS AS COMPLETELY CLUELESS ON ECONOMIC POLICY
Dimon’s Déjà Vu Debacle
By PAUL KRUGMAN
The point is that it’s not O.K. for banks to take the kinds of risks that are acceptable for individuals, because when banks take on too much risk they put the whole economy in jeopardy — unless they can count on being bailed out. And the prospect of such bailouts, of course, only strengthens the case that banks shouldn’t be allowed to run wild, since they are in effect gambling with taxpayers’ money.
Incidentally, how is it possible that Mr. Romney doesn’t understand all of this? His whole candidacy is based on the claim that his experience at extracting money from troubled businesses means that he’ll know how to run the economy — yet whenever he talks about economic policy, he comes across as completely clueless.
Okay…I’m happy I wasn’t drinking coffee or grape juice – otherwise my newly cleaned carpet would have been a MESS after seeing this tweet from Snark :)

Make me gag. Thomas Roberts of MSNBC just interviewed that great sage Jodi Kantor of the NYT, re-emerging with a story about Willard and his religion. Now she purports to know what he prays about, from her “sources” or just her own guesstimates, who knows. Please keep her out of the public eye, people, and let her take Willard with her. Double gag.
Did she mention that he has admitted to personally re-baptizing people of different faiths after their deaths ?
No, of course not. She didn’t mention the victims of the Holocaust who were baptized, either, both before and after his church promised not to continue that practice.

Americans shouldn't be angry with Congress — they got exactly the system of government they asked for bit.ly/K4dhiu— Foreign Policy (@FP_Magazine) May 21, 2012
This chart shows the gap between the percentage that is satisfied and the percentage that is not. When the chart heads north of the zero line, most people are satisfied. When it heads south, most aren’t. And it’s fallen off a cliff.
In fact, the numbers have been sliding southward for a decade. There have been some brief upticks — the post-9/11 launch of the war on terror, the 2003 Iraq invasion, Barack Obama’s 2009 inauguration — but the trend is clear. And there’s no simple, short-term explanation.
Why? Because over the past few decades, Americans eagerly supported a series of decisions aimed at rolling back government’s influence in daily life. They were popular at the time. But now the country is paying a heavy price.
Call it a hangover from America’s neoliberal binge of the late 20th century, a massive political project aimed at limiting government’s role in everyday life. Americans wanted “a minimum of government authority,” Ronald Reagan said while campaigning for the presidential nomination in 1976. “Very simply, they want to be left alone.” And that was exactly the program enacted over the next quarter-century: Marginal tax rates were reduced, especially for the wealthy; social programs were restricted; controls on commerce and finance were removed. By the time 2000 rolled around, Reagan was remembered as one of the greatest presidents in modern history.
A great read.
This is a very salient statement. I was thinking the same about the California situation. Heavily in deficit, but nobody wants to raise taxes. Plus, nobody wants to cancel public programs. So the deficit gets worse. The problems don’t get solved because of the crazy system of government. College keeps getting more and more unaffordable. Infrastructure continue to crumble and endanger people’s lives. And the people keep complaining about the very situation they keep voting to sustain.
Ed Henry has a huge jug head. Look at how much bigger his noggin is compared to the other three adults. Just gigantic!
Rep. Joe Donnelly (D-IN), the Democratic nominee in the Indiana Senate race, is standing by his vote for health care reform in 2010 — and actively firing back at its detractors, the Times of Northwest Indiana reports:
“First, they ought to talk to Mitt Romney because he basically laid out so many of the premises in it,” Donnelly said. “If they want an argument, they ought to start with him.”
Donnelly also spoke at about the law’s protections for people with pre-existing conditions, such as his own daughter Molly, who has rheumatoid arthritis: “My daughter and millions of other Americans who may have diabetes or a heart condition or cancer can get health coverage for the first time because of the health care bill.”
I just want to shout out to Yardarm, Joan, ObamaGrandma, Fred, Hachiko, Quiet Observer, Joyce’s grandmama, and Desertflower. Always lifting my family up with good thoughts and meditations in prayer time. (((((((((( Love you )))))))))) HZ
