I love the “Personal” ad. It needs to run all day, every day in Florida and Arizona. Especially in Florida where they elected a Medicare scam artist as governor.

I tweeted my “Seniors Summit” suggestion to the WH a little while ago — hope it didn’t get lost in the shuffle. I just KNOW that there are legions of seniors just waiting to be wooed by PBO. With his personal history, track record, and personal charm, he can’t help but win them over.

    • 27 57andfemale
      May 23, 2012 at 9:24 am

There are legions of them. I am amazed at how many seniors still don’t know that ACA helped THEM and helped them before it helped anyone else.

Here’s what I keep hearing: they didn’t get a COLA raise under Obama for the first two years so that’s his fault. They believe RW lies even if they’re not RW.

I keep trying to do my part to get them informed in my husband’s circle. I’ve changed a few minds but a big push from the administration and the campaign would really help.

    • 30 desertflower
      May 23, 2012 at 9:47 am

My father has said the same about the COLA increase…but they have probably gotten MORE in the way of access, rebates and covered medical care than any COLA raise would have provided:)

      • 31 57andfemale
        May 23, 2012 at 10:30 am

I knew at the time that PBO would get blamed. I don’t know for sure, but could it have been addressed when Nancy Smash was Speaker? I knew it would come back to haunt them.

Here is what drives me crazy: the VERY FIRST thing to be implemented from ACA was adding basic check-ups and other yearly screenings to Medicare. Checks were sent if you were in the donut hole, and the donut hole began to close. The biggie: taking a sledgehammer to Bush’s Part D law that forced you to pay premium prices to drug companies and exploded the deficit. IMMEDIATELY under ACA many drug prices were slashed in half, with more benefits to come. It is astounding to me how many seniors STILL don’t know this.

The immediate benefits of ACA to seniors was a reason we were considering dropping my husband’s Medicare Advantage plan in favor of regular Medicare. Quelle surprise, the Medicare Advantage plan ADDED benefits to his plan in order to stay viable. There is now an out-of-pocket spending cap which is HUGE for seniorsn under this plan. The Advantage plans are being phased out, and we’re fine with that. But our personal experience has been great health care for my husband.

No one group benefited more from ACA than seniors in the first few years. I still think the administration blew the messaging on this. It ain’t just Fox’s fault — the administration did not sell this law like they should, and they’re still anemic IMO.

My husband’s doctors are all talking about lifestyle changes to combat the effects of age: meditation and exercise for his essential tremors instead of dangerous drugs that really don’t help; eating right and exercising for high blood pressure and cholesterol in addition to medication. Because we are talking about low-tech, common sense actions by individuals to keep themselves well, does NOT equate with lack of medical care when you need it.

What is it that makes Republicans so good at injecting lies into the American psyche and our side so bad at injecting truth? Why?

ROMNEY SURROGATE THINKS BAIN RECORD, AS A WHOLE, IS FAIR GAME.”

    So much for ‘character assassination’

    By Steve Benen

    ————————————-

In the two-minute clip, we see several prominent Republicans — including Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry, Jon Huntsman, and Sarah Palin — all of whom agree that Romney’s leveraged buyouts and mass layoffs are a legitimate subject for campaign debate.

So, which is it? Is Romney right when he characterizes this scrutiny as “character assassination” and an attack on free enterprise, or is Romney’s surrogate and fellow Republicans right when they say Bain Capital is fair game?

Yeah – Rachel’s excuse for playing it was that since it was a $10 million ad, we’d see it anyway. I just fast forwarded, like I’d do if I saw the ad on TV. Karl Rove will learn that he doesn’t need to spend a dime – just needs to SAY that he will. That, combined with Cory and Diane Feinstein, left me a little deflated.

      • 60 anniebella
        May 23, 2012 at 10:05 am

jovie141, if we have concerns about Roves ads being shown and the President ads not being shown, then we need to contact the station, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, and ask why is it you will show Karl Rove ads for free and you never seem to show any of the President’s ads. We have to let them know that we want fair and balance. It is not enough to come here and complain. We have to complain to the media. I remember when FLOTUS was in N.C. to speak at N.C.A&T graduation and the local station did not cover it, but they cover Mitt Romney at Liberty U. So I contact that local station and ask them why didn’t they show any of FLOTUS at N.C.A&T, well I heard back from them, they explain why, and they showed some of FLOTUS speech. I told them that all I wanted to see was some fair and balance coverage, if you are showing Romney, but ignore the First Lady here in N.C. that is not right. I told them alittle more, but I will keep it clean, but they got my point. And they will continue to hear from me.

  17. May 23, 2012 at 9:31 am

    FYI-
The Romney Camp is shrewd, check. But, when they released their fundtaising hall, RNC dumped all of their Cash into The joint find. Of course, the RNC has been raising money for three years, not just the month of April.
Thus, that 40 million for April is misleading!

IN THE SEA WEEDS — The White House is sending its ‘A’ team to Congress this morning with a simple message: Ratify the Law of the Sea treaty. Panetta, Dempsey and Hillary Clinton will urge members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to throw their weight behind the international agreement, which establishes rules for how nations should use international waterways and undersea resources.

The treaty has been languishing in the Senate many years, and the fact that it’s suddenly in the spotlight could be a signal that the Obama administration believes it has sufficient support within the chamber to push the measure across the finish line.

But John Kerry, chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, says his main goal is to bring attention to the issue.

“I just want to let the hearings happen and let Senators grill both sides and come to their own conclusions,” Kerry tells Morning Defense via email. Kerry is planning to roll out a series of treaty endorsements from advocacy groups and business leaders, including Lockheed CEO Robert Stevens, who has written a letter in support of the treaty.

“Ratification is now critical to the important U.S. economic and national security interests advanced by access to the vast mineral and rare earth metals resources on the ocean floor,” Stevens writes. Read the letter here: http://bit.ly/MG8aIN

Congress will ignore it, they always do.

  29. May 23, 2012 at 10:00 am

    Why?

GOP SENATORS GO AFTER GREEN MILITARY SPENDING: The Senate Armed Services Committee as early as today may grapple with a largely partisan skirmish over a Republican effort to stymie the Obama military’s green energy agenda. Panel ranking member John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) are teaming up to try to defeat military green funding during the panel’s closed-door consideration of defense authorization legislation. I always find myself waiting impatiently for Deaniac’s posts! Here’s a snippet from his post yesterday:

“And there lies the big economic debate of this election: the conservative view of economics sees no difference between maximizing the income of the wealthy few and building a middle class. Their theory, proven wrong time and again, is that if we simply hand the well-to-do more and more money, then that wealth will trickle down to create jobs for the rest of us. This is why the Republicans see the scrutinizing of Mitt Romney’s record at Bain Capital as “an attack on free enterprise.” In their world, any policy that is not geared toward maximizing profits for the select few, without regard to the great many, is “an attack on free enterprise.”

Mitt Romney and his party aren’t so incensed about the Bain scrutiny just because of that though. They are incensed because the scrutiny and the exposure by the Obama campaign is actually succeeding at dismantling that narrative. That is bad for both Mitt Romney and conservative voodoo economics at once. President Obama is making this election not just a choice between his record and Mitt Romney’s – which would be bad enough for Romney – he’s turning this election into a choice between the conservative and progressive economic visions.”

POTUS’ game is always way ahead of the pack! All these thoughts were muddling through my mind and the coherence of Deaniac finally pulled them all together! :)

And Deaniac is on a roll: “Priorities USA sees Romney’s exploitation of Booker and raises him a Palin”

“Bottom line, the President and his supporters are not ready – not by a long shot – to give up on exposing Mitt Romney’s record at Bain. If Mitt Romney wants to run on his private sector business record – and he does – then the American people deserve to know just what he did as a businessman. If Mitt Romney wants to run as a job creator because of his past as a corporate buyout specialist, then we’re going to find out just what he did to sacrifice jobs at the alter of high profits. If Mitt Romney wants to run on the risk-and-reward system of capitalism, then we’re damn well going to find out how he made a business model that almost always walked away with cash, regardless of whether companies Bain invested in succeeded or failed.

Seriously, come on. Did the Republicans really think that exactly this wouldn’t be the response to their singing and dancing around Booker’s comments? This is the big leagues, Mr. Romney. This ain’t your Republican primary.”

So, he basically wants Mitt to get the right talking points? For someone who’s been running for President for six years, he should have his story straight by now. And since he’s been “unemployed” all these years, surely he could have been keeping up with current events to know that the USSR no longer exists? This is dangerous.

President Obama was knowledgeable about the world years before he even got to the US Senate, and spoke out about current war/activities before that. He studied politics and international studies at University. He already knows the answers to these questions. It’s offensive to suggest he should be replaced with someone less qualified, less capable.

The pro-Obama super PAC Priorities USA Action plans to add $3 million to its TV campaign targeting Mitt Romney’s record at Bain Capital, a strategist familiar with the group’s plans tells me.

Priorities initially announced that it would put $4 million behind its first wave of advertising on Romney’s private equity career. That figure will now rise to $7 million — a big investment in driving the Bain message.

The organization’s second Bain spot, “Loris,” hit the airwaves yesterday.

7 million? Wow! That is very good. Somebody tweet bill Burton a thank you!

IT IS HORRIFYING TO THINK THAT RICHARD SHELBY IS AN OFFICIAL IN OUR GOVERNMENT (please read, smdh)

Shelby shows how the game is played

    By Steve Benen

    —————————–

JPMorgan Chase has given Shelby tens of thousands of dollars in recent years, and it got its money’s worth yesterday. As Milbank added, “The trading scandal at JPMorgan highlighted the urgent need for tougher regulation of Wall Street, but Shelby’s harangue was part of a larger effort to use the scandal as justification to repeal regulations.”

Exactly. Shelby shrieked in glee during his show-trial hearing yesterday, arguing that the Commodity Futures Trading Commission struggled in its oversight role during JPMorgan’s mismanagement, which in Shelby’s mind, means the Commodity Futures Trading Commission should have a weaker oversight role.

Henry Blodget, editor-in-chief of Business Insider, talks to “Viewpoint” host Eliot Spitzer about today’s revelation that big institutional investors got important information about Facebook before its IPO that smaller and individual investors didn’t — namely, that analysts had revised their estimates of the company’s revenue.

And now Deval Patrick has a Problem with the Bain attacks
I am sick and tired of these toothless Democrats.
    Disappointed about Patrick!

This is definitely giving Team Obama pause, all these Democrats are sticking up for Bain!
    Jeesh!

Democratic Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick appeared on CNN and defended the Boston-based company Mitt Romney led, saying it wasn’t “a bad company.” Patrick added “I respect what Bain does and its role in the free market system,” he said.

      Ugh!

jovie141, I listen to some of what Governor Patrick said and seem to me I recall him saying that their is nothing wrong with asking questions about Bain capital when Mitt Romney was there.

POLL: African American Support For Marriage Equality Is Higher Than General Population |

A new ABC News/Washington Post poll finds support for marriage equality remaining consistent at 53 percent, with a growing number of African Americans backing the freedom to marry. Fifty-nine percent of black respondents said they want to legalize same-sex marriage and 65 percent favor President Obama’s position on the issue.

For the first time, the number of Americans who “strongly” support marriage also (39 percent) outweighs the number who “strongly” oppose it (32 percent).

I know we have several LA members in our family so I’m curious – have any of you heard of this doctor and is this story legit? It ‘came across my desk’ and seems somewhat bizarre for 2012, yet they have named names. Is is legit? The following commentary came with the info, they are not mine. VC

African American Doctor Depicted as Gorilla at UCLA Event

A respected African American faculty surgeon filed a racial discrimination suit against the UCLA Medical Center and UC Regents. Dr. Christian Head has been intentionally degraded based on his race…

this ACTUALLY made my stomach churn…pass this on to anyone you know in media…!

    Hello All,
This is outrageous and painful to watch. Please watch this video (link is at the bottom of this email) and share with those in your network, as well as news outlets so that it receives the attention it deserves and forces the courts to act.

When I first received this I was dumbfounded, and had to sit and search my soul as to what could I do about this, about what can be done and this is what I did and encourage you to do also or anything else and any other way you know of to bring attention to this unbelievable account of what this man has had to endure.

What we must do is send this out to everyone we know until it reaches the major news organizations. This is a disgusting travesty of untold proportions in this day and age. I sent this to “The Grio” requesting them to get this story out there and make it front page news. We have to support this doctor, this is about all of us.

Please join me in emailing this to the Grio ( info@thegrio.com ) and any and all other outlets requesting coverage. We must bring this to the front pages as we did the Trayvon case, can you imagine the pain this man has and continues to experience?

So it looks like bain capital is turning loose its democratic shills on their behalf. The political corruption by the corporates is cutting across the lines. Same case here in India too and unfortunately we do not have our Obama. Disgusting.

Yeah, don’t let Andrew Kazinsky (sp?) fool you. Gov Patrick said the same thing that PBO said. There is nothing wrong with private equity. In it, your job is to maximize profits for your investors- and that’s what Romney did and that’s fine. BUT, you can’t use that to base your candidacy for presidency. There are no “investors” in America. And, if there are, they are the 1%. Maximize profits for the 1% means minimize profits for the 99%. Secondly, as Gov Patrick mentioned, Massachusetts was 47th in job creation during Romney’s tenure. This was AFTER Bain. How come those business skills we’ve been hearing about never translated to a state? So, if Romney couldn’t translate his skills to a state…how the heck will he do it for 50 states.

I agree. I think President Obama is trying to make a fine distinction here. The issue is not that Bain is a bad company, but that it is not appropriate experience for being President. That sounds like what Gov. Patrick said too.

I seriously think that the Only Team needs to have sitdown with all their surrogates. This is getting ridiculous. There is no way these bastards didn’t get their talking points and know that Bain was going to be the first prong of the Obama strategy. I’m so F-ING tired of these minor league whores.
