President Obama greets Archie Hackney, 90, of Newton, (Archie’s first greeting of a sitting president) after remarks at TPI Composites, a wind manufacturer in Newton.
(I love this photo so much. Look at the respect shown towards PBO by this veteran, trying to stand up from his wheelchair. Gorgeous.)
Thanks for the extra pics LOL
Hiya Carol ;-)
Definitely a winning picture!!
NIceeeeeee…i have not seen this one before…..wait….is this when he received the award from the NAACP….
Woohoo, Carol! Way to go!!! :-)
Oooooh, so close Betsy ….. go on then:
THANKS so much Chips. You’re the best! What a cute couple. :D

Wow! What a powerful photo!
Ok I just read Snark latest tweet….I’m rotfl……I think you’re in trouble Vic
Oh dear, I better run back and see.
Good Evening Family!
On a serious note…..this is an incredible picture….wow
I just read in our local paper that Pat Summit is being honored at the WH Tuesday so that’s the day for the President’s Medal of Freedom awards.
You have some people who can stand without any trouble, but yet they wouldn’t stand just because it would be showing respect to the black President. A very nice photo.
Oh my, what a good observation Anniebella……..you’re so right
Thank you. Wonderful prize! LOVE THAY PICTURE TOO. They are an exceptional couple.
I heard someone on Stephanie Miller this morning saying that the military respect President Obama. The caller was a former Marine, and her husband is a currently serving Marine. They said that many of the military respect President Obama, even though he never served – and she found that heartwarming. That’s quite a feat. She said that the GOP have lost the military, even though there’s a dedicated tiny minority of fools who will always support the GOP.
This picture of respect is awesome.
Respect – the perfect title for this photograph. You can see every bit of pride and patriotism in this photograph from BOTH MEN!!
Veteran Mr. Hackney seems to be using every bit of his strength to stand up and meet the president of the United States of America. And Pres. Obama is clearly respectful of Mr. Hackney’s service.
I turned in my letter of resignation at the job I’ve had for the last 7 years. I gave a formal signed letter of resignation to the Asst Mgr (the lead Mgr will be out until after the holiday and I wanted to get the ball rolling, so…Asst Mgr had to do) and I sent an informal email to the other supervisors and the Mgr telling them thanks for the opportunity to work at … but I after much consideration I’ve decided to accept a position elsewhere.
It was a little nerve wrecking, I actually walked from the back of the lab to the front 2x just waiting for the Asst Mgr to get back to her office, but I did it. Now onward and upward.
Congratulations! Nothing like turning over a brand new fresh piece of paper to write the next chapter of your life. Onward!
Congratulations Iamh35 and good luck in your new position.
Congratulations lamh on your transition and wish you the best in your new position :)
Congrats lamh35. Taking on something new takes us out of our comfort zone and can be a little intimidating, but you sound excited. You are brave and will be wonderful in your next job! How exciting!
Wishing you the very best….
Way to go lamh35! I’m soooo proud of you. Good on ya! For so many of us just stepping out of our comfort zone and embracing the unknown takes tremendous courage. Congratulations on moving FORWARD!!! Go get your palace, baby!
This song is about taking the kind of step in life that you just did! You are an inspiration!!
Onward and upward…I am so very happy for you!
Lamh35, may your next chapter in your journey of writing your upward and forward pages in your life be filled with peacefulness, joyfulness, and many successful paths along the way. Be happy, and enjoy your life, it is a precious one. So happy for you.HZ
Cory Booker tweeted this a few minutes ago
Cory Booker @CoryBooker
”Sorry I make u sick. And sorry I made a mistake. I’m sorry that 15 seconds on MTP erodes my 20 yrs of work in inner cities around our nation”
What is it that he doesn’t get? It doesn’t erode what ever he did in his past…..when it was time to be a team player, to support the President, he called his ads nauseating. Period.
He had the opportunity to set the record straight on RM and it was a disaster.
So nobody wish him bad things, he’s just not the type of surrogates that the campaign needs.
It’s time he moves on……….I saw on twitter that he will be on Oprah Sunday….
some folks won’t let it move on….and it got nasty…i did not see those kind of tweets directed towards Rendell…
His twitter account is not active PF…that’s the only reason believe me, it would have been the same…..
i doubt it….
Me too, prettyfoot58! I really think it’s time to move on about Cory Booker. Why not emulate the example of the President we all passionately support? Some family members often mess up. After they apologize the family embraces them back. I didn’t know about any one else, but I consider Cory Booker family. That does not mean that I was not vey angry at what he did. I was. Still, my focus is on the unethical media that are using what he said to hide behind their failure to honestly examine Romney’s claims about job creation.
Sorry, but I beg to differ. There isnt one occasion when Rendell appeared on MSNBC without a vociferous barrage of twitter commentary. His passive aggressive PUMA punditry is not missed by anyone!
That’s pretty pathetic. He clearly wasn’t ready for prime time. The President has achieved historic results, and has had a lifetime of achievements, including Nobel Peace Prize, Emmy awards, an award for supporting veterans, winning the Presidency, being the single black person serving in the US Senate… the list could go on and on. And yet, you’ve got do-nothing grifters like Palin and Romney saying he’s done nothing, criticizing his time as a community organizer. You’ve got know-nothings like Limbaugh and Trump disrespecting the President’s achievements. You’ve got ignorant people judging the President based on his skin color. And you’ve got many others who are single issue voters, or who just don’t bother to stay informed. You don’t hear the President whining.
The difference here is that Cory Booker is whining like he’s been taken out of context, or like he didn’t do anything wrong. The President has done nothing to deserve the criticism and attacks he’s received. Cory Booker dished it out, and now doesn’t want to stand by his words, and he’s playing the victim. That’s pathetic.
Dear @CoryBooker You don't wear 'victim' well. You are a fine person & have accomplished much. #BainMitt is nauseating. That's the message.— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) May 24, 2012
He should stop whining and start performing, strongly, for the President. We’ll all cut him slack if he does, for sure.
Well done, Bob!
That’s an excellent and respectful response, Bob. The knd that re-builds important bridges.
Beautifully stated, Bobfr. HZ
Theo, I agree wholeheartedly! PBO has earned every bit of the respect he gets and then some. His excellence as a student, teacher, organizer, husband, father, politician, etc. has been vetted for years and years. His birth certificate has been examined ad nausemun, his wife has been insulted, he has been blatantly disrespected by many in congress and state offices around the country. And neither Flotus nor Potus, have ever whined. They just work harder, love more, move forward, keep pushing. I can’t ever remember a president being disrespected in the manner of the monkey t-shirts, the bone in the nose posters, etc. That doesn’t even begin to address the out right courage to walk into crowds almost daily when his and his family have received more death threats than any other president in history. Courage, integrity, powerful inner spiritual strenth–thy name is Barack Obama! Cory Booker could take a lesson in this—
Word! LOL. It gives you a headach does it not. Leaving out his stomping all over the president’s message, and being I suspect a selfish opportunist If he truly is Okey dokey with how the Bain business model of vulture capitalism works he is NOT someone I could ever support on the national stage. When it comes down to it I hope to have better choices in 2016. 2008 and 2012 feel unreal in many ways. There have been a few times where I’ve held my nose or not felt anything but like I was voting for the lesser of 2 evils!
I think the Democratic bench for President will be fully loaded in 2016 and 2020. It’s the Congressional bench that is a problem.
This photo speaks volume. respect for the office.
I love that photo….
says so very much….
Dare I say, respect for the man too.
Now that is RESPECT!!!
And, Chips, think you’ll like this one ….
Photo of POTUS answering questions on twitter now in Iowa #whchat http://t.co/rQOyuxL3— (@petesouza) May 24, 2012
Love it Bob, thank you! I’m about to post a heads up, that photo included. Thanks again Tweetin’ King!
Wow, that photo speaks volumes. So moving. PBO is such a tender soul and if you’re half-human, he elicits that in you, too. Gorgeous.
Beautiful, simply beautiful.
This picture is moving me almost to tears…POWERFUL stuff. I’m dedicating a song to Mr. Hackney. Thanks Sir, for your service to our country.
Respect for the man and respect for the Office of President. We can learn manners from our elders and patriots. The picture exudes kindness and love.
That is so moving. Now that is what Respect looks like. This made me weep. I have been dealing with stairlifts all day for home use, and this gave me chills. Thanks for posting this , Chips. Love you so much for All that you do. I am still trying to catch up while dealing with so much business at home. Difficult times, but faithful spirit rises to the top. I feel so disconnected when I can’t be here with my TOD family and on Twitter. It is difficult trying to catch up, but All is well with my soul. HZ
Hi HZ. It’s good to ‘see’ you. I agree, this picture made me cry too, probably because I am having a down day today but mainly because of the joy of seeing the respect and love of those two exceptional gentlemen. Words can not express the love I have for President Obama nor the respect I have for all veterans and service people both here and across the world. Having lost a very dear person in Iraq in 1991 the military is very close to my heart. (Sorry for rambling, I am not making a lot of sense today.)
Mentioning stair lifts I have also been looking at them with my parents today, there are some really good ones on the market. I just can’t wait until mom and dad get on installed, it will make their lives so much easier as it will for you my dearest HZ. You are such a precious soul and it makes me sad to know that you are having such difficult times but I am so glad that your faith is keeping you strong. Love you so very much and sending you a (((((((((hug)))))))))).
“get one installed” – not on installed. finger trouble!!
Hi Sam UK. Oh, what a joy to see you here and to read your comment as well. You are so special also. This photo made me think of all of the beautiful people who gave their lives for so many, and some are still living and moving on regardless. What strength!!
I hope that your days will be lifted to a space where you can also stop, meditate on choices, and move in the direction that will lift your spirits to a level that will be full of joy and peacefulness. That ‘downnss’ was where I was during the appointment with the salesperson. However, she was such a beautiful spirit from the moment that she walked into my home. We talked, measured, cried, took pictures of my stairs, talked some more and then got down to the cost again. That brought on more tears, but I am praying, adjusting budgets, and really praying for doors to be open for wisdom to make the right decision for me at this time. It is difficult when my pride gets in the way.
I hope and pray that your wonderful parents will be able to get the right stair lift for their needs. Yes, there are so many wonderful ones out there. I really like this company. I just will need to figure out how to move money around and hopefully get one. Please keep me in your thoughts regarding this main component of the entire final decision, Sam Uk. I certainly will appreciate your thoughts. I will keep your in my prayers as well.
I love you back so very much. I hope that you will feel better, and remember that the dust may blow up towards our mountains, but we know how to withstand the winds and brush ourselves off and move forward. We will both move on with hope, gratefulness, and inner peace that all will be fine in the end. Take care of yourself, Sam UK.
((((((((((((((((((((((( Hugs coming your way)))))))))))))))))))))))))HZ
Philadelphia’s Mayor Michael Nutter and DA Seth Williams outside of the charter school where Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney visited
Now that Mayor stood up for President Obama, unlike that traitor from Newark, N.J.
twitpic.com/9ouhiz – Yes, I can see #MittRomney displaying and eliciting this kind of respect. Oh, wait…— Liberal Librarian (@Lib_Librarian) May 24, 2012
great call Chips! very moving
I don’t know if this has been posted yet but have you read what Michelle said about “bedtime rituals”
Can’t you just see Faux Nusz grabbing the pic of the President with Mr. Hackney and running this headline? “Obama drags elderly veteran out of wheelchair!”
Grover Norquist: Hey, lay off! I was comparing Chuck Schumer to Weimar Germany, not Nazi Germany.
What a crowd in IA ….
The crowd awaiting @BarackObama in Iowa. #obamadsm http://t.co/9ROyI07p— Lis Smith (@Lis_Smith) May 24, 2012
Heads up everyone:
This is a wonderful picture and respect is a great title. 90 years old and standing up for his Commander In Chief. I love it. I salute Mr. Hackney. I would call him by his rank if I knew it.
This is the age group i have been working with for 6 years. The determination required to get up from a wheelchair can be awe inspiring! This gentleman seems to be very determined, and very inspired by the chance to meet a President and CIC of PBO’s caliber.
“Gorgeous” and tearful~ Thx, Chips!
Those are wonderful pictures. When I get to talk to the President you’d better believe I’ll be standing and showing complete respect. Love this.
