President Obama boards Air Force One at Des Moines International Airport en route to Washington DC, May 24
Morning everyone, back in a while
Congrats on first africtimes2. Have a great day. You seem to be off to a great start.
It’s a great day to be alive, knowing PBO is at the helm. Thanks, PMG. Hope you have a wonderful Friday, too.
Mooooooooooooooooooooorning Africa, morning everyone
He’s so handsome.
I agree! I am so pleased at the great press he got from the Des Moines Register, at least their cover photo.
Congrats on first, africatimes2!
Thank you, andogriff.
PBO connects, MSM knows it but are working their sorry negative narrative over time. U.S. MSM lacks a certain dignity.
It’s all opposite shit, to put Him on even Ground with Robney.
Good morning Africa, you have the best seat this morning….good morning Chips and everyone.
I would remove the word ”certain” from your sentence….US MSM lacks dignity and is utterly pathetic.
I’m still thinking of the ridiculous Mike Allen’s article in Politico….since BS like that set the narrative on MJ, Daily Rundown, Andrea Mitchells, etc….no wonder it’s a mess.
I wonder what is the criteria to get this job:
Mike Allen Chief White House Correspondent for Politico
Chuck Todd CWHC for MSNBC
Ed Henry CWHC for Fox
These guys are so bad at their job, they’re supposed to report facts and be impartial…..
Putting aside the fact that they always carry the GOP water, like it’s not bad enough, they always ask the most ridiculous questions.
Like- what was your combination of your Locker in High School?
Did the President walk to School or take the Bus?
Good Morning TOD family. I am off to work in a bit. I wanted to mention that my area of Florida has more and more Obama 2012 bumper stickers popping up everyday. I am seeing new Obama 2012 T Shirts too. Met a lady at my store yesterday that volunteers at the Boca office. She said calls are going great. We have new voter registration weekends coming up.
Yes, everyone is Fired Up! Ready to Go!
Oh good!! I was just reading comments under the article on CNN about Mitt leading in Florida and was just a bit thrown off this morning.
of course the MSN is ig noring the fact that this Quinnipiac poll increased the number of gop in their sample by a significant percentage. they are also ignoring the other polls that show the opposite result.
always remember one thing: the MSN wants to keep the illusion that the race is close so that they can make more money from advertising. they therefore have to push results that are not true.
our goal is to act as if the fake polls are indeed true and then work many times as hard to get a landslide on Nov 6th
Thanks Linda…I KNEW that but I’m nursing a pretty nasty cold right now so my ability to be rational/logical is pretty weak. But you know Linda…. I went to a business networking event earlier this week and at one point, these three guys, (60ish, white) got up and described what they had in common. What did they list FIRST? The hatred for the left because the left is ruining this country (debt, debt, blah, blah, etc.). I mean…I had to work hard to keep my mouth from falling to the floor, but he said this in a mixed room of business owners. Now, I did look around after he said it and everybody else in the room was stone still, no reaction. The meeting was in Ann Arbor, Michigan by the way, which is crazy for Obama. It was my first (and last) time at that type of networking event. So between the crazies at the business event and reading that CNN article plus this cold…it’s looney Friday over here.
Good morning all.
Congratulations africtimes2 on being first.
Good Morning Todville. Everyone have a nice day.
Our President is like a magnet. No matter where he goes people always want to get close to him. I never see people groping to get close to Willard “The MYTH” Romney. Ha Ha
Great thanks to the people of Iowa.
Iowa is Obama-country!!!!
Good morning, Chips, Linda, and all TODers – I love that President Obama is treated like a native son by Iowa! (Of course, truth be told, all 50 states and beyond would want to brag about him as a native son!)
I remember reading the profile of about-to-be-Senator Obama in the New Yorker. If you haven’t read it, it’s a fun read, especially now. http://www.newyorker.com/archive/2004/05/31/040531fa_fact1?currentPage=all
I read it back then and thought OK, he’s a talented guy, but can he go farther? The Iowa caucuses a couple of years later changed everything. If he could capture Iowa — a very, very white state — then all things were possible. Iowa changed the game, bless ‘em.
Agree! It was a magical time, which we WILL repeat in 2012 !!!
Do you think its time for you to make one of those famous posters of yours with some of the recent photos of PBO among the diverse sea of people and of course title them “President Obama stumbles out of the Gate” per politico?
I’ll send a message to Snark, Linda
Much appreciated Chips!! it is good that “you know people , …. who know people, ….., who know Snark”!
Yes, it’s quite a “small world” around here, isn’t it, globalcitizenlinda? I don’t know where Chips gets the time to … you know … contact Snark.
we are indeed lucky that OUR Chips is one dedicated and hardworking person!!!!!
there is simply no place she will not “go” and all kinds of “fellows” she will not “contact” in order to make sure that PBO is defended and re-elected.
4More4Chips! (That oughta bring a tear!) I’d vote for her. Twice.
I wonder if Chip is Snark? Maybe my mind is playing tricks on me. But Chips is very good at many things…I wonder if she is ever going to reveal herself?
Reveal herself? Wonder no more as the answer is ‘no’. She told us ‘no’ eons ago and asked us to respect her wishes and not ask. Since she asks so little of us, I figured that’s the least I could do. Hmmmn. Curiously though Snark recently also refused an opportunity on Twitter to ‘reveal’ himself. Hmmm. Interesting similarity.
@newsmatt @pressclubdc Thanks Matt, but last time I revealed myself I spent two days in jail. An unfortunate misunderstanding, nothing more.— Snark Knoller (@SnarkKnoller) May 21, 2012

Good On Mike Awesome Luckovich! This should be make the Tweet Rounds to the “media”/lazya$$ waterboys.

I’m weeping, the belt is a howl!!!!
So we can punch the hair?
No, you can give him a a haircut though.
ha! ha!, the belt is almost as high as the hair-line! may be by the end of the race, the belt will be at the tip of the liar’s longest hair
Another excellent one for the lazy “media” in America.
And, CBS news says that Michelle Obama wishes she was Beyonce.
Beyonce is Beautiful, but she gotta do something less dramatic, with the Hair.
Aren’t they Friends?
jovie141, the First Lady and Beyonce are friends, Beyonce wrote a very nice letter to FLOTUS, thanking her for being such a wonderful role model, but I believe the fact about wishing she was Beyonce has to do with Beyonce musical talent. I read the article also, and that is what I understood FLOTUS to mean.
Well, Geez, who doesn’t wish she was Beyonce. Beautiful, talented, smart. If some woman said she didn’t want to be like Beyonce, I’d question her sanity.
This.Thank you, jackie.

McDame on fox news Sunday. Why do the GOP put Him out there every week?
He is the least favorable Senator out of 100!
After that ridiculous interview with Newt last night….Chris Matthews had a pretty powerful ” Let me Finish ” to end the show.
The more things I learn about the Presidency of Barack Obama the more I stand in awe. Yesterday I just found out that for years Bill Clinton tried and failed at removing the banks from the whole student loan process, but President Obama ultimately succeeded on his first attempt at removing the middlemen which was costing the government billions.
Because he did it through reconciliation.
I heard that, too, Don, and was so proud of this wonderful President, who just keeps moving on, getting the job done.
and mitt the bullying liar wants to reverse this!
Ritt … er … Mitt Romney (as Michael Steele accidentally keeps calling him, on MSNBC, because even he is too bored to remember his name) proved yesterday in Philadelphia for all time that he doesn’t understand anything he’s talking about – whether it be education, defense, pet care, you name it. Teachers there and Mayor Nutter and others took him down, big time. That won’t matter to the haters, of course, but it was a beautiful thing to watch. Katrina vanden Heuvel of The Nation was also eloquent on The Ed Show last night, about the media’s call to arms to call out Ritt. If necessary, we all need to take to the streets – especially on voter suppression. 4MoreFor44 !

Mitt Romney will be rubbing elbows with Donald Trump and Newt Gingrich at a fundraiser in Nevada. I wonder how many divorces there are between those two. I am thrilled that Mitt will be joined at the hip with the number one birther (Trump) and the master of politics as a blood sport (Gingrich). Now, all we need is for some enterprising journalist to get close enough to Mitt to question him about his two pals. I won’t hold my breath.
facebook hype faces reality. http://t.co/m4iIroMX— (@amk4obama) May 25, 2012
Rather than facebook…it should be called facepalm. It’s a fad…just like myspace.
I have to say, I’ve used FB for about a year to keep touch with my widespread family (only – haven’t friended anyone else), but even at that I am suffering FB Fatigue and seriously considering stopping. I love the personal updates, but hate all the automatic posts about articles they’ve read, things they’ve pinned. I know it’s not OBOT talk, but it’s all taxing.
I’m with you Susan. I thought I was the only one feeling this way. I complained about my grown kids not emailing or calling very much and they all said I should get on facebook cuz that is where they posted what they were up to. So I got on facebook too. At first I didn’t “get” that their friends were not really asking to be my friend too that it was just facebook. I was getting tons of unwanted news about people I did not care about. I unfriended them to keep my sanity. I only have family on now but feel like a peeping Tom as I mainly just read the posts. When my computer email was breeched I could not get into facebook to let them know since they had no phone number and the intruder had highjacked my email address by changing it slightly so I could not receive emails back. I had to start over. It was a mess!
I never did get on facebook but it seems to be more than just a fad. And, you can’t post on thinkprogress or TPM now unless it’s from facebook which is too bad for me.
The media was the main one hyping the Facebook IPO. Now they seem to be standing as far back away from it.
Another example that they don’t know WTF they are talking about.
That, or they were given instructions by higher ups/potential investors to promote Facebook.

FAKE ECONOMIC CHARTS
amk, this cartoon really hit home this morning. I was checking out some tweets at LOLGOP and saw the gem below. The link provides some good advice: Lesson of the story – when you see a chart on the internet, 1) look at it carefully to see if the scale is off and 2) check the source of the data. If the information varies wildly from the points below, it is probably fake. If you find a fake chart – report it to The Truth Team.

Well, this Toon isn’t over …

The real Knoller seems to be obsess with ”cow pies” ….I don’t know how many times he mentioned lol
Ugh. I can’t stand him.
Mark Knoller @markknoller
Will ‘cow pie’ line will be remembered in presidential speechwriting with “tear down this wall,” “kinder, gentler nation” or “ask not…?”
He’s just mocking the President as usual
He knows that President Obama is an amazing speaker and there’s plenty to choose from from his speeches over the years.
Bitter GOP hack…..Snark is on the job this morning so you have to laugh.
Don’t be to hard on Knoller, maybe every time he heard the word cow pie he started dreaming of having one for dinner, a cow pie.
A cow pie for the snarky cow.
I shouldn’t be so mean, so early in the morning.
And our wonderful president said it simply to mock Robmey’s comment about a “prairie fire”
Good morning everyone! Congrats Africa on first! A quick Hello, Happy Birthday to anyone celebrating today, and Bon Voyage! After a cup of tea, it will be last minute stuff around here, then SeaTac to Dulles! Will lurk if possible. That reminds me of my favorite quote from HH Dalai Lama: ” Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.” Have a lovely weekend! Obama~Biden 2012! Yes!
Have a lovely trip! We shall await your return, and we will (try to) be kind in the meanwhile.
Have a lovely trip. Love you.
Thank you, I am sure I will! How I wish I had time to tour the WH, while POTUS and FLOTUS are in residence! That would make my weekend! Love you back!
Have a fun trip, Happy Weekend to you!

But here in the streets of West Philadelphia, the emotion surrounding his contest with the nation’s first black president was raw, as dozens of neighborhood residents shouted, “Get out, Romney, get out!”

wapo’s feefees are hurt by Jay Carney calling them out as sloth and liers. So here is their bs fact check on Obama’s spending by going for the spending as a percentage of GDP and belittling the fact the GDP shrunk due to recession. Fucking liars.

Wow! The Media Print, has one hit piece after another this Morning, on the President!
Bain must be taking hold.
They have to…since their own polls won’t do it for them. The media is starting to realize that Mitt’s best chance was right after Santo dropped out…and Mitt squandered it. So, now they are trying to help him out. Notice all these hit pieces are coming out before Memorial day to try and set the conventional wisdom. Because they know that after Monday, no one will care about politics till August. So, what better way to SET the narrative than by writing stories with the ever present “some Democrats”.

CALLING OUT THE GOP ON THEIR BLATANT LIES
Obama: Republicans Bamboozled People Into Thinking They Are Fiscally Disciplined
By: Sarah Jones
The President is right, even PolitiFact agrees. President Obama is the most fiscally responsible president we’ve had in a long time.
The President sounded a little ticked off, noting that he has had to clean up the Republicans’ mess and now they have the nerve to make up outright lies about his record, while selling themselves as fiscally responsible.
I know it, you know it, and probably most Republican politicians know it. But damn it felt good to hear the President finally say it.
The President just called Republicans out on their blatant lies. If they thought he was going to lay there and take it Kerry style, they have another thing coming.
I’m not gooad at twitter, so I hope this works.

Up and at ‘em O-town!!!!!! How are all my TODdies on this perfect getting up day? The birds are a chirping and the butterflies are a flitting, so I guess all’s well. Caught just a bit of the Moanin’ Jaw this morning, nothing new, but I did get that Deutch (sp) had the best description of venture capitalist. They are vultures and they’re there to make money in 2-5 years and they don’t care if it improves a company or if the company goes bust. It’s within the law, but to say otherwise is crap.
My political take for the day is: PBO will win this, but we gotta get busier than a one-legged person in a kicking contest to GOTV in November.
This has everything to do with ideology and absolutely NOTHING to do with facts. Why do you think we HAVE so many wackos in office here????
At least Deutch called it like it is. He’s probably a .1% financially and admitted he is friends with the top venture capitalist in the country. I can appreciate his honesty, whatever the ideological take is. I don’t have a problem with wackos in office (we put them there), as long as the wackos are honest, have some sense of compassion, know that they are wacko, but at least act as if they have some sense. If they can remember why they were put in office and try their best to fulfill the needs of their constituents, then the wacky might take a back seat.
Morning everyone:) Well, my son has officially graduated! Nice evening, great kids…life is good. Now for the fun part:) Stayed up WAY too late partying with the graduates last night, and my eyes feel like they need a bath….or my head feels detached from my body, whichever. Have to work for a couple hours today, and then it’s vacation for a couple months, and I could not be happier!
Missed so much the past week…parents leave tomorrow, and things get back to normal. SO glad they came out to visit and watch their grandson graduate…god willing, they will be around to see the college graduation.
So, I clicked onto the major news site here in AZ…and the question this morning was: Who will do a better job with the economy, Romney or Obama? In all their infinite wisdom, the posters there thought Willard would do a much better job 58% to 37%…..boy,you just can’t fix stupid! This is all about the “R”.This place is nuts.
Well, what a great evening you must have had. I’m sure it was worth the eyeball and head discomfort this morning. Congrats to the whole family on your son’s graduation. I always say that parents and all the support folks in a child’s life get kudos on that child’s accomplishments.
Btw, folks, such as those in Ariz, who answered that economy question that Romney would do better, are willfully accepting something that is not true as the truth. That means the real reason they answered that way is something else and has nothing to do with the question.
Congrats df. Kids graduating everywhere = Hair pulling moments are over.
Thanks…but you know as well as I do that the hair pulling moments NEVER go away! For now though, I just let him bask in this accomplishment. Onward!
Congratulations and WELL DONE!, to your son, df! A joyful milestone! Enjoy your down time so very much!
Hi df, congrats to your son on his graduation!!!!
Congratulations on your son’s graduation! It’s so wonderful to see so many TOD proud parents with smart kids.
OT but not really: we are angry and upset that the Catholic high school where my friends’ daughter goes, has eliminated band. Entirely. She’s an artistic kid and now has no arts of any kind at her high school. If she wasn’t a senior next year they’d transfer her. they pay $12,000 for the privilege of sending her there. I’m sure the half-time band director is really going to make a dent in their debt. Because the parents and kids do everything else: fundraisers, transportation, uniforms, everything. No cuts for the crappy football team which has barely won a game in 5 years. That’s what makes my blood boil. There are no school pep rallies for the band. In fact my friend had just complained that the seniors playing in the last game of any sport get recognition, their parents are there, they are invited on the field. While the seniors playing in the band get no recognition at all.
My friend said, “I should have banded together these parents and put that energy in the [crappy] public school.”
We had just had a discussion yesterday that as soon as her kids graduated she had no intention for supporting the Catholic church ever again, over women’s rights, contraception. She said it’s all she can do to go to mass at all these days. I think she may re-think that timetable.
That’s a shame that with that kind of tuition, they couldn’t keep the band going. It really upsets me that athletics take take the front seat to all other activity. Nothing against the athletes who perform strenuous physical demands. The point is, kids who excel in any form, academia, fine arts, or nose picking deserve the same recognition for their hard work. The parents deserve that same recognition as well. My #2 always complained about how the college athletes on sports scholarships were treated so much better than those who were there on academic scholarships. This even though the teams were not at all successful.
One of the reasons for the debt of this school is that 60% of the kids are there on financial need and only 40% pay full tuition. On its face this sounds great: the school is located in a suburb just West of Chicago and they do indeed offer financial aid to kids from the poorer neighborhoods.
Wait for it…….
If they are in sports. If they can help the teams. If there’s a chance they will be recruited. Not for academics, certainly not for the arts, not even just to give a chance to a kid who might want to be an engineer or a schoolteacher. Just if you are talented in sports.
I understand the feelings of many here at TOD but this hero worship of barely literate ballplayers is hurting this country. The same people who are ‘bored’ and won’t take 2 minutes to know what’s in ACA, are happy to sit in front of a TV and watch sports all weekend and know every baseball stat.
This is the fault of the educational system throughout this country. There is a difference between the physical fitness that FLOTUS encourages for ALL kids, and the funneling of all energy and money into sports at the expense of a well-rounded education.
Okay, I’m as old as dirt (I’m 62, as of May 7). Athletic scholarships used to mean you could use your athletic talent to become a dentist or a lawyer. In our high school, the athletes had to participate in something arts-oriented as well as sports. Some of the guys would run lights for a show, some of them would get cast in the musical and actually learn that the artsy kids were not from another planet. I remember football players learning a whole new respect for dancing in a musical — it was much harder than training on the football field!
If you’re encouraged to go to football games and buy the cheesecakes and the bake sales for the sports team, then that same encouragement should be in place for band concerts and photo exhibits and the school play. We might actually make better citizens and people out of our students. Instead of this hero worship for basketball players who can’t read at a third grade level.
Okay. It’s my true passion — the lack of arts education in this country. I’m off the soapbox now.
Hmmm, just west of Chicago? Would this be the school of their most famous recruit Isaiah Thomas? Education and the arts are my two main passions when it comes to our kids. I agree with you. I’ve always said that it’s the administration who send the message to these children that their physical athletic ability will get them through life. They don’t tell them of the odds of them ever getting the multi-million pro sports contracts, or how an injury could end your career. they don’t prepare them with any skills. I don’t blame these kids, they are seeking the dream being fed to them by the adults in their lives. Not all athletes are bumbling idiots and many of them go on to be remarkable citizens and business/professional contributors to their community. At least in my school district, athletes with above average and/or excel academically are give a special recognition. The band, cheerleaders, pom-pom and everyone associated with the sport, including the parents are also recognized at the end of the season.
I wouldn’t know Isiah Thomas from Danny Thomas, but I am not averse to plastering the name of this school on the internet: St. Joseph High School in Westchester, IL.
My friend has been complaining for three years about the dissing of the band, while the cheerleaders and ball players all get special recognition. Understand, my friend is completely committed and active in the school. Parents’ clubs, fundraising, chauffeuring the band. She even goes to almost all the games that the band played at in order to support her kid. She’s the model parent. I go to fundraisers, buy stuff, support the school as well and I’m Jewish for God’s sake!
We met through theatre about 20 years ago. We thought about offering to produce and direct a decent school play, on our own dime, but my time between three jobs made it impossible and although my friends (the mom and dad) are fantastic in support functions, the lion’s share of the work would have fallen to me and I just don’t have the time or energy anymore.
When I think about the money spent on University of California athletics, it makes me sick. Like you, I do believe high school and college sports are important, but it’s so out of balance, it’s obscene. Big money while artists, writers, musicians languish. Makes me very sad.
It’s more than sad. it truly affects what kind of citizens our children become. High schools and colleges are now farm teams for professional sports, and the importance of an actual education has been lost entirely. it’s a corrupting influence at its core.
THOROUGHLY DEBUNKING MITCH MCCONNELL’S BULL – “MYTH MCCONNELL”
By Jon Perr
In the wake of the debt-ceiling crisis he helped manufacture last summer, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell boasted it was “a hostage that’s worth ransoming” which “also is a new template” for the future. As it turns out, those threats were among the few true words McConnell has uttered. Because while he’s promising once again to blackmail the White House over the debt ceiling, the Kentucky Republican claimed it’s because “we’d like to do something about the nation’s biggest problem, spending and debt, which of course is the reason for this economic malaise.” Of course, as the data show, it’s the very austerity policies here and in Europe which are costing jobs and hurting growth.
But Mitch McConnell’s myth-making hardly ends there. On the economy, taxes, deficits, health care and so much else, virtually all of McConnell’s talking points are tried – and untrue.

Their heads would EXPLODE if they read this! OMG!
When Same-Sex Marriage Was a Christian Rite
Contrary to myth, Christianity’s concept of marriage has not been set in stone since the days of Christ, but has constantly evolved as a concept and ritual. Prof. John Boswell, the late Chairman of Yale University’s history department, discovered that in addition to heterosexual marriage ceremonies in ancient Christian church liturgical documents, there were also ceremonies called the “Office of Same-Sex Union” (10th and 11th century), and the “Order for Uniting Two Men” (11th and 12th century).
These church rites had all the symbols of a heterosexual marriage: the whole community gathered in a church, a blessing of the couple before the altar was conducted with their right hands joined, holy vows were exchanged, a priest officiatied in the taking of the Eucharist and a wedding feast for the guests was celebrated afterwards. These elements all appear in contemporary illustrations of the holy union of the Byzantine Warrior-Emperor, Basil the First (867-886 CE) and his companion John.
Hey, the whole celibacy of the clergy started circa 1000 A.D. so that married priests couldn’t pass along their wealth and land to their families. There were always Orders that were celibate and took vows of poverty, but the wholesale adoption of celibacy was a matter of money. Go figure.
I had learned of this from a dear friend of mine who is a Eucharistic server with the Cathedral here. I have long believed most religions are founded as a method of controlling the thoughts and actions of the people, and also to collect money!
Hiya Miss Pamela, have a safe and wonderful trip! Waving goodbye!!!
Well one thing you don’t have to worry about: them reading anything that contradicts their bigoted views.
That last massive lie is at the core of Romney’s political strategy. By removing that context (which is like talking about the sinking of the Titanic without mentionng the iceberg), Romney is knowingly arguing that the spending and debt levels of the last three years were some kind of choice by a president who just loves to strangle the US economy by spending much more money than we have. But the only president who made that choice was George W. Bush – by crippling revenues, even as he fought wars with no budgets and new entitlements with no end (Medicare D), rendering us bankrupt even as we desperately needed a rainy day surplus to fight the depression.
Obama did not have a serious choice; he had a fate. That fate was to pick up the pieces of the most catastrophic presidency in modern times. The final bouquet – after emptying the public coffers with no serious boost to employment, profits or growth – was the financial collapse, which both shrunk the economy, decimated revenues to 50 year lows, and automatically increased spending for the unemployed and poor in desperate need of help. Once you account for that – and the Nutting graph indeed shows that this was baked in the cake by the time Obama was elected – Obama has been, like most modern Democrats, far more fiscally conservative than any modern Republican.
Excellent sully piece. Tweeting it.
Thanks for sharing this, desertflower! Will spread it around
Watching MSNBC’s Jansing & Co.and whoever this Dem is backing PBO is phenomenal!!! Couldn’t to get his name, but he was great. He took the poll numbers, dug deep, gave the real meaning behind the numbers and they ALL came up a positive for PBO. The Repub lady was St. Torum’s campaign person, and she was floundering around like a elephant in deep poop.
Speaking of pensions, Romney dumped $44 M of GS Steel pension liability on taxpayers. Another Romney bailout.— Paul Begala (@PaulBegala) May 25, 2012
Love it that the surrogates are continuing to tell the truth and asking the msm to GFT.
Paul Begala has been absolutely great. The best he’s been in his entire career. Twitter seems to be tailor-made for him.
Twitter seems to be tailor-made for him.
Yup. His one liners are ideal for twitterdom
I have always found him a little annoying to watch and listen to — he talks too fast and tries to shove too many ideas into a sentence. Twitter, which isolates the one-line zinger, is a very effective tool for him.
Morning One & All in TODville! GUESS WHO got early lunch TODAY, is working about 10 minutes away from home, and therefore has about 45 minutes to spy on you all? Not enough time to both read comments AND harass the blog Mistress before heading back, but enough to keep a slight eye on the excellence of Mr. President.
there you are…was wondering if you slept in. Congrats on your job!!!!!!
Good Afternoon CJ and Thanks! I’m still adjusting my mind to it. I’m happy, yet I’m frowning because it will interrupt my PREFERRED method of passing the day – lounging at TODville. OTH, it’ll mean I can get my i-pad sooner so maybe I can sneak it on the job and keep abreast that way. We’ll see. Also, it’s only for the month of June.
Good morning mayor Chips, Good morning afternoon and evening Todvillagers everywhere. Happy Friday (is it happy Saturday for you amk)!!!! Wishing you all a pleasant day.
Morning CJ. It’s still friday night here. Will be sacktime shortly.
A good read:
AFTER SAVING WALL STREET, NOW THEY WANT IMMUNITY FROM CRITICISM
By PAUL KRUGMAN
But here’s the thing: If Wall Streeters are spoiled brats, they are spoiled brats with immense power and wealth at their disposal. And what they’re trying to do with that power and wealth right now is buy themselves not just policies that serve their interests, but immunity from criticism.
Think about where we are right now, in the fifth year of a slump brought on by irresponsible bankers. The bankers themselves have been bailed out, but the rest of the nation continues to suffer terribly, with long-term unemployment still at levels not seen since the Great Depression, with a whole cohort of young Americans graduating into an abysmal job market.
And in the midst of this national nightmare, all too many members of the economic elite seem mainly concerned with the way the president apparently hurt their feelings. That isn’t funny. It’s shameful.
OAKLAND, Calif. — A second federal judge in California has struck down a law denying benefits to partners in a gay marriage.
Wilken says the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act violated constitutional standards when it denied federal benefits to same-sex spouses married under California law and barred domestic partners of state workers from long-term health coverage.
Wilken says both laws were based on what she calls “moral condemnation” of same-sex couples.
A San Francisco judge also declared the federal law unconstitutional in February in a separate case. That ruling is under appeal and will go before the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in September.
Can’t wait for DOMA to go to the big “Show.”
Some quotes just make me smile:
“Another point about the decay of the conservative intelligentsia is just how far people go when they finally quit the movement. They don’t just fade into retirement or neutrality, they get angry. Bruce Bartlett, a former Reagan adviser, says things like ““I think a good chunk of the Republican caucus is either stupid, crazy, ignorant or craven cowards, who are desperately afraid of the tea party people, and rightly so.” David Frum, former speechwriter for George W. Bush, wrote a piece titled “When Did the GOP Lose Touch With Reality?”
What kills me is, the Unions initiated the grassroots recall, through very hard work.
Then Walker gets 25 million from the Kochs and alike, and now they are intimidated and blaming National Democrats.
Unreal! If the Unions don’t have 25 million to match that outside money, than why bother?
The is nonsense.
They are not blaming. They are stating a fact. They have not had the support of national Dems, including PB0. He said he’d put on his boots and march with us. He hasn’t. At least, not yet.
if PBO got into the recall then it would all be about him and not the workers who are lossing their rights
Am I to understand you want the President to drop everything and come march with you in Wisconsin? Besides I though marching was over and it was now time to go get out the votes. May be you also wan’t the president to come knock on doors. Some friends I know in Wisconsin swear that OFA has been very active both in the recall in organizing to get out the vote. Do you have evidence to dispute that? I just get so tired about the holier than thou leftist obsession with blaming the president for things that we all should be doing.
