Happy Memorial Day!
Congrats on First, Maryl1
Oh yaya! What a great picture for a hot day here in Michigan. Wish I was there! I’m always so surprised when I make first.
This picture is from the same day as one of my favorite pictures – the one with President Obama putting a flower in Malia’s hair as they walk along the beach. I love that picture!
Congrats on first, Mary!
Oh Good! Prez Obama walks on the beach barefoot..like you’re suppose to!
Helloooooooooooo UT, hellooooooooooo everyone ;-)
Happy Memorial Day everyone!
Sooooooooooo close Marlz! ;-)
Thank you Miss Chips. . .:)
Appreciate all you do for our TOD Community.
Off by a few minutes! Good run, Maryl1!
I would offer to share my prize but it is just too good!
That’s alright, you enjoy every bit of it! You earned it. Sometimes not sharing is best for the non-recipient. They’ll strive harder. (a bit of VC-ian philosophy)
Wow! Another award for meee? Awww, you shouldn’t have!
BTW, CC, switching from cats to turtles in acknowledging my progress is an inspired move – you are so good at what you do! :lol; Not being a great pet(ting) person it’s easier to avoid turtles than cats, who generally feel a need to rub against your feet. So thank you for understanding me better after all these months and acknowledging my differences!
Thank you to all of our Veterans. You serve our country and now it is time for us to pay you back. My contribution is political education and registering you to vote. Tricare to go by the wayside if GOP is elected. I registered my first vet yesterday.
And thank you for all you are doing!
Thank YOU for your focus in moving the ball along in this election. Much appreciated, especially by those of us who can’t do much but cheer from the sideline.
GM! Special appreciation 2 familz whose loved ones made the ultimate sacrifice. Spec. apprec. too 2 this CIC offering more than lip service.— Vick C. (@sonamie) May 28, 2012
The President will soon show us how to honor our fallen military heroes, by his own genuine and expressed respect for them … C-Span TV will be covering it, if anybody wants to see him on a larger screen.
This is one of the saddest remembrances – at the Tomb of the Unknowns. Their families never got to bring them home, but we – as a country – give them the honor due them, as part of their larger family.
Are there birds chirping in the background, JO’B?
Here is a reuters poll that shows Obama leading Romney among members of the military. gallop seem to have a right wing slant.
knew I had seen some polls saying otherwise. we need to put these articles and reports together so that we can share with other people and the lousy MSM
Excellent find anameti, thank you!
Last Reuters poll: Pres Obama 7 pts ahead of Romney with military vets, but GOP/Gallup have Romney 24 pts clear! LOL. reuters.com/article/2012/0…— Chips (@___Chips___) May 28, 2012
@Politico ♥ GOP/Gallup poll showing Romney lead over Pres Obama with military vets. The last Reuters poll? Not so much: reuters.com/article/2012/0…— Chips (@___Chips___) May 28, 2012
You saw that too? I was wondering about that?
Also, msnbc keeps saying over and over and over, that our Veterans are waiting to long, for their Benefits. Taking a shot at the VA!
I thought THE FACTS show that under PBO , the wait has been significantly shortened – I could be wrong but I heard that from many be NPR a while back
Many more people filing, than under Bush!
Also, I remember I put in my claim, it took 2 years to get 10%. Then I put it in again with more evidence, it took another 2 years to get 50%.
I put in another claim with more evidence and it took 3 1/2 years to get 100%.
You have to keep filing. It’s how they work!
Yes, 7 1/2 years and 3x filing…
That is a beautiful name. I had a great student in 1st grade with that lovely name. She’s a sweet, intelligent, beautiful girl!
TALLAHASSEE — Out of $334 million in cash payments sent to Florida in a multibillion dollar mortgage settlement with major banks, more than $33 million will help bolster the state’s budget.
Florida is one of several states taking a portion of the $2.5 billion in cash payments from big banks and using it for programs not directly related to the foreclosure crisis, according to ProPublica, a nonprofit investigative journalism organization.
A spokeswoman for Attorney General Pam Bondi — who negotiated the settlement on Florida’s behalf — confirmed that 10 percent of the cash has been sent to the general budget fund.
So, Governor Scott is taking, TAKING, 33 million out of this fund to pay down State Debt? Wow!
Btw- it’s not 2.5 billion, but it is 25 billion the DOJ nabbed from the Banks.
I wonder if PBO and FLOTUS will make an unannounced stop in the Afganistan and Iraq war section of Arlington – like they have done on prior Memorial Days
I was thinking maybe they did that before the ceremony, as I believe they did on prior Memorial Days?
Wow, I hope there is water and shade nearby, because it’s GOT to be hot out there. It’s already 80 degrees with 65% humidity at 11am in Washington DC.
On this special day of remembrance and memorialization of those who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we are able to live in a country where all voices are allowed to be heard, where dissension is to be honored as highly as agreement, where people are free to express themselves in all civil ways, I propose that for this one day, we at The Obama Diary, avoid anger, name calling, panic over polls, etc.
Let us merely dedicate ourselves anew to making sure that the best Damn President I have known in my lifetime is re-elected with a supportive Congress so that we do not slip away from the country that those men and women sacrifice themselves for.
And let us also remember those who may have returned from battle but will never return to a full life due to their injuries. And let us also remember those families that have been left behind, broken and in pain. What we do we do for them.
This is dedicated to 1st Lieutenant Philip C. Mitchell, Jr. who died in the hills of Korea in 1951.
On the fourth of May, we in the Netherlands, remember the dead.
For us, this means more than fallen soldiers.
From Wikipedia, on “Trouw, the illegal newspaper during WWII”:
“The Trouw was started during World War II by members of the Dutch Protestant resistance. The newspaper was published irregularly during the war due to lack of paper. The Nazi occupying forces tried to stop publication by rounding up and imprisoning some twenty of the couriers. They issued an ultimatum to the leaders of Trouw; however, the editors did not give in and all of the captured couriers were executed.”
That was very moving.
My grandfather was a coal miner in Pennsylvania during his life, beginning at age 11, so I often think of Winston Churchill’s talk with coal miners during World War II, to remind them of their worth, toward the war effort:
“We will be victorious! We will preserve our freedom and years from now when our freedom is secure, and years from now when peace reigns, your children and your children’s children will come and they will say to you, ‘What did you do to win freedom in the great war?’ and one will say ‘I marched with the 8th Army.’ Someone else will proudly say, ‘I manned the submarine,’ and another will say ‘I guided the ships that moved the troops that moved the supplies’ and still another will say, ‘I doctored the wounds.’ They will come to you, and you will say, with equal right, and you will say with equal pride, ‘I cut the coal! I cut the coal that fueled the ships. I cut the coal that moved the supplies. That’s what I did, I cut the coal.’”
thank you for that Jacqueline, my grandfather was also a coal miner.. here in ND :)
They were/are a different breed! :)
yes he was something my grandpa… I miss him.
And maybe for some in this generation, though we couldn’t serve or have no immediate family members who served, we can honestly add with pride, I registered voters AND I VOTED in 2012. This is a good day to remind us all that we must do our part to further the cause of freedom, no matter what our part is. Please share. Thanks!
"..these dead shall not have died in vain..this nation..shall have a …government of the people, by the people, 4 the people” Pres Lincoln— Vick C. (@sonamie) May 28, 2012
Definitely. Our VOTE is all-important! It’s something we all can do, as you mentioned, and we MUST DO in 2012!
That you for posting that; many of the people in my family were coal miners in Wales. My father was in this country by then and listened to Winston Churchill over the shortwave. My mother was in Wales in the Observer Corp. She was stationed in London during the Blitz. Needless to say, Winston Churchill was revered in our house. My father was inspired to enlist over here, but he was too old to serve overseas.
Byes guyz. Off to family celebratory dinner for my son’s and my brother’s son’s excellent final high school performance.
See ya VC, enjoy the dinner!
YOU, CC, are a born troublemaker!
Have a good time, Amk, and don’t eat too much.
Thank you to God in heaven and the Creator of the universe for giving us President Obama on this Memorial Day, to remind us we are all one people in this country.
Here is President Obama’s proclamation commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War, ahead of his upcoming participation in the ceremony.
” … While no words will ever be fully worthy of their service, nor any honor truly befitting their sacrifice, let us remember that it is never too late to pay tribute to the men and women who answered the call of duty with courage and valor.”
ON MSNBC just now they had on retired General Barry McAffery giving props to POTUS on how well the military likes and respects him and discounted the Gallup poll by saying that would be possibly more reflective of other issues; unemployment, etc. Still a VERY suspect poll but nice to hear this general say it wasn’t at all reflective of the military’s respect for POTUS as Commander in Chief.
The Officers that have been their a while, are All Republicans. However, tossup for NCO vote. NCO vote is a swing vote!
I would say colonel and above perhaps, many of the majors, captains and lieutenants I know are strongly in favor of PBO.
McLame and Robney are in Arizona today(interesting State to campaign in) to give a speech. Robney will most likely declare how great McLame is/was and tell us all, what a Hero he was/is!
For goodness sakes, he was shot down! What is so Heroic about that?
Check that, he is in san Diego!
Who is McLame, the guy POTUS beat in 2008? And Robney, he’s the one POTUS will beat in 2012.
jovie – Not sure we should mock our military who were shot down, even though I know what you were getting at, in McCain’s case.
Head’s up! PBO will speak soon
Looks like it is hot there already, people are just fanning.
Okay…this is to Chips. I live in Florida. Yes, one of the states that sat down in 2010. I just got an email citing this very blog. This is from the chair of the Florida Democratic Party.
Way to go Chips! People know who you are.
Can you say what they said?
Just asked the same question below. . . :)
That’s awesome! Can you relate what they stated about the blog?
The link was to the blog. The message was “Bookmark” this blog for all past present and future communications from the President of The United States.
Hope you guys are on this….POS
Hey Chips & TOD regulars, Happy Memorial Day . I can’t believe this is the 50th Anniversary of Viet Nam already. Just wow, I’m really, really old! :) Hope you all have a good day. Carole
On this Memorial Day, let us remember Romney’s plan for veterans and the military. Nothing.
Here’s the “Decoration Day” poem, quoted by Gen. Dempsey, during the ceremony:
by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Sleep, comrades, sleep and rest
On this Field of the Grounded Arms,
Where foes no more molest,
Nor sentry’s shot alarms!
Ye have slept on the ground before,
And started to your feet
At the cannon’s sudden roar,
Or the drum’s redoubling beat.
But in this camp of Death
No sound your slumber breaks;
Here is no fevered breath,
No wound that bleeds and aches.
All is repose and peace,
Untrampled lies the sod;
The shouts of battle cease,
It is the Truce of God!
Rest, comrades, rest and sleep!
The thoughts of men shall be
As sentinels to keep
Your rest from danger free.
Your silent tents of green
We deck with fragrant flowers;
Yours has the suffering been,
The memory shall be ours.
I truly appreciated the introduction of the President by Leon Panetta! His words seemed really sincere.
Yes. Well done.
good morning TOD family. Happy Memorial Day.If there are anyone who served this country on this site,on behalf of my family and I THANK YOU.
I’ve been doing well, still not feeling well but doing ok.Mom is doing good too.
Chicago survived the Nato Summit and other than a few jackasses,it went well.We were so happy to have Potus and Flotus back.Joe Rickett’s Cubs I am happy to report that the Cubs have lost the last 12 straight games and my Sox have won the last 12 straight games
Since the MSM won’t report this but can anyone tweet these to Longoria and ask her to spread that around please?
Rep. Steve King: Immigrants are like dogs
Rep. King Designs Electrified Fence For Southern Border: ‘We Do This With Livestock All The Time’
speaking of Joe Ricketts that bastard still hasn’t learned his lesson
Billionaire Promotes Documentary Claiming Obama Is Implementing ‘The Anticolonial Agenda Of His Father’
Chips thank you for the site and I hope my TOD family is doing well.Until next time,
Mr. Ricketts’s Chicago Cubs have now lost twelve straight games.
Just to be fair, this Mr. Ricketts has very little if anything to do with the Cubs.
It is my understanding his money paid for the Cubs so his kids would have something to do.
Good to see you Fred and glad to hear that your mom is doing good, and sorry to hear that you are not feeling too well. I wish you a speedy recovery.
All this doesn’t surprise me, let us remember that blacks weren’t consider human, and while things have gotten better, we know there are still lots of people out there who would put black Americans back in there place. They can’t stand this black man being President of the United States. I was reading the article from People magazine about FLOTUS and the girls going to Beyonce concert, and one comment from someone call FLOTUS and her girls jungle monkeys.
Good Morning TOD and Happy Memorial Dat

Greeting everyne…did i miss the service…
Hola & best wishes to everyone this Memorial weekend~ No sunshine in my neck of the woods, but the rain has brought out the blooming flowers and the grass is greening :)
I’ve been tweeting that marabout/Hachiko is seeking a temp home for Tucker.. so if anyone can help, please do.
Personal news… My house closes by July 18th or sooner.. and I put an offer on a nice little fixer upper in Baltimore… Soooo fingers crossed ;)
I wish everyone a lovely day.. however you celebrate/memorialize it.
I posted some Tucker and job info for her on the last thread…I hope that she sees it!
thank you df.. I hope so too.
Good news for you there, Sherijr, and I hope it all works out the way you want. As a friend though, I have to tip you off that crossed fingers will hamper your fixer-upping skills. Are you a do-it-yourselfer or are you likely to become a job creator?
lol.. good point vc, will uncross fingers while fixing up! yes I try very hard at the ‘doing it myself’.. but I know my limitations too and will happily create a job or two for the pros ;) and thanks for the good wishes.
You are very welcome! I remember that you’ve been looking to get geographically closer to the kids and grankids for a while now, so I can imagine your excitement. When you know your limitations it’s liberating, isn’t it? As a fixer upper, my limitations restrict me to the role of supervisor, which I sometimes perform annoyingly well. ;)
lol, you are so funny :) I, unfortunately am usually both the worker bee & the supervisor… maybe that will change with all three sons nearby… one can hope.
Factories begin to shift back to US
Randomly Random: Anyone notice Ann Romney has not been seen for a while?
just thought about it a few days ago. i wonder why
No idea. Just noticed she’s been MIA.
The media and GOP was hoping she would be the new “Michelle Obama” help close Willard’s gap with women as his “secret weapon,” but alas that didn’t pan out quite as expected. They’ve stuffed her back in the kitchen.
Of course, guess it could be a health issue. Doesn’t she have MS? Probably the campaign pushed her to her limits (as if standing next to that man with a straight face wouldn’t have pushed me to my limits, all by itself).
You’re too generous Jacqueline…I’m sure she’s fine, she has the best care…………they put her aside for one reason, they realized that she was a gaffe machine like her liar husband.
When she said that Rosen’s comments were a gift, she was thrilled….it exposed her hypocrisy….
When she talked about the cruel treatment of their dog……she laughed like a psycho and said that he loved it….yea that’s why the poor dog got sick…
When she talked about his ”pranks” his Prep School….hahaha laughing, it was funny as hell….before the truth came out about what she considered hilarious…..assaulting, bullying, gay bashing……….
They are both the same………sociopaths…….
Well, yes, there’s all that, too. Cringeworthy, both of them.
Likely because of ….

5 Visions Of The Future Of Service In America
GOP Dishonors Veterans’ Sacrifice with Benefit Cuts and Privatized Healthcare Schemes
President Obama is a staunch supporter of our military and especially veterans, and his reluctance to send them in harm’s way for no apparent reason has garnered condemnation from Romney and Republican warmongers who dishonor their commitment by slashing benefits and pushing for more wars. America owes it to its service members to support them during and after their service, and to employ them only to defend our nation; not to enrich the oil industry, Haliburton, or the defense industry. It is incumbent on all Americans to thank the brave men and women who defend our liberty every day by ensuring that we choose leaders who use their service prudently, and that after they have served, to fulfill the promise of providing the care they need; anything less dishonors their service and commitment. Republicans have shown they have as much contempt for veterans as they do for every other American, and it demonstrates they do not support the troops before, during, or after they send them to another needless war.
The fact that the contributions to the President’s campaign are 5 to 1 says it all…..they saw him in action, they respect his intelligence.
But I saw a comment in TPM that made me think…something that we tend to forget:
”Anyone who was in Afghanistan or Iraq knows that FOX News and Ruch Limbaugh were broadcast to our troops for ten years. Bad enough, the pernicious Murdoch and Clear Channel influence on stressed out citizens, even worse when they are being brainwashed under combat conditions. Our soldiers have been indoctrinated shamelessly, and unfortunately, too many of them succumbed to it.”
I think that the hateful Limbaugh is no longer broadcast after the petition, but I’m sure FOX is.
The damage the evil empire of Rupert Murdoch did to the US, to the world ….is so deep and disturbing. It took an Australian gazillionaire to push his far right wing ideology and completely change the discourse……the media will never be the same, ever….it’s too corrupt.
What would have provoked outrage years ago before all this corruption and control of the media by the likes of Murdoch… is normal now…..not a problem to call the Commander in Chief Un-American or a fraud or a liar,…….anything goes…..
It’s pretty sad when to get the truth out, people have to rely on social medias…..

Here are two tweets you can help me spread as I don’t have a lot of followers. I took them from a fundraising letter Pres. Obama sent.
'What makes America great isn't just …our military might .. at our core, what makes us great is our character ..' Pres. Obama— Vick C. (@sonamie) May 28, 2012
'What makes America great isn't just .. the size of the GDP..[it's] our character, and our belief that we are all in this together.' PBO— Vick C. (@sonamie) May 28, 2012
Here’s the President’s full paragraph.
P.S. What makes America great isn’t just our skyscrapers. It’s not just our military might. It’s not the size of the GDP. At our core, what makes us great is our character, and our belief that we are all in this together. Those are the values that inspire Democrats and the values we need leading our country.
$55 million for conservative campaigns — but where did it come from?
A group with ties to the billionaire Koch brothers doled it out in the 2010 election cycle, but the sources of the cash remain a mystery.
WASHINGTON — The financial firepower that fueled the rise of a network of conservative advocacy groups now pummeling Democrats with television ads can be traced, in part, to Box 72465 in the Boulder Hills post office, on a desert road on the northern outskirts of Phoenix.
That’s the address for the Center to Protect Patient Rights, an organization with ties to Charles and David H. Koch, the billionaire brothers who bankroll a number of conservative organizations.
During the 2010 midterm election, the center sent more than $55 million to 26 GOP-allied groups, tax filings show, funding opaque outfits such as American Future Fund, 60 Plus and Americans for Job Security that were behind a coordinated campaign against Democratic congressional candidates.
Some soldiers may have listened to Fox and Rush, but a lot of them did not appreciate the RWNJ’s pushing Haliburton and X (FNA blackwater) on the military to replace them in their jobs. That’s one of the reason the vets in my family back President Obama.
Saw this last night…..it is really good.

Great tweet Africa….that’s the way to deal with these corrupt GOP shills…….
Is anybody like me getting frustrated with Kristen Welker. She supposed to be whitehouse correspondence but there is no report of hers that does not have a refrence to Romney, If she wants to cover Romney go ahead and do that . Today she has to bring up the stupid gallup poll that nobody asked her about. this equivalent bullcrap I have had enough of it not going to stand for it. later she had the guts to inform us that Romney is having a speech in Arizona equating it to the President speech about Vetinam Vets . all I want to hear from her is what is happening in the whitehouse is that asking much, Kristen like it or not we are moving “FORWARD” with the real deal President Obama.
They all get the same memo from the corporate bosses……..
New post everyone:
I wanted to thank all those on this blog who have served our country. I’m thinking of all you and your families that have sacrificed so much for your country. God bless all those that have given the ultimate sacrifice. My heart and prayers goes to all the families that have lost a loved one or are helping a Wounded Warrior, whether they are hurting physically or mentally, coping with the aftermath of their service.
