Okay, I know people hate it when someone tells the President what he should say. However, I really would like to hear him say something like the following:
“As a businessman, Governor Romney knows that to make money you have to spend money. Well, that works with the government too. The debt is large and can become troublesome, but ultimately, the only way to reduce it is to have more money coming into the federal coffers. There are two ways to do that. Increase taxes (but only on the SOBs who could care less about the rest of the country)or have more people working so that they pay taxes into the government and don’t take money out of the government through unemployment, food stamps, etc. Actually, by doing the first it is easier to do the second. However, the Republicans want to do neither. Cutting spending won’t do it, as several countries have shown, that only makes the situation worse. So I am asking Congress to do both things. I know I have the support of the Democrats in Congress. Let’s see if the Republicans are really sincere in their desire to do something about the debt and helping people get jobs.”
Obviously, that is just the general gist of it and he would be much better than I in putting the actual words together.
that’s a nice, succinct way to say it, japa–i doubt the speechwriters could improve on it! and it’s truth is so self-evident, it resonates instantly.
Please read @PyroJoe’s rant @Smartypant’s bog. You will be properly and righteously yanked out of your doldrums. It made my day.
I’m with Joe….I said that on the last thread…makes us stronger!
@BarackObama @SpeakerBoehner & his fellow #KOCHSTERS, holding true to their 20Jan2009 plot, are clearly harming America by obstructing AJA.— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) June 01, 2012
All is not bad….http://thepoliticalcarnival.net/2012/06/01/general-motors-us-sales-up-11-percent-in-may/
The auto industry continues to come back strong, so much so that there will be NO SHUTDOWN over the summer because of demand. This, or the guy that wanted to let Detroit go bankrupt? After all, Mitt KNOWS bankrupt!
I’m looking forward to hearing what the President has to say to Congress about the To-Do List.
Hey guys. I love this blog and it is a daily read for me. This is my first time posting a comment! I am a young voter (mid 20′s) and my fiance and friends are big Obama supporters. Granted we do live in Portland, Oregon I know that this job news is not that great and listening to the MSM is not fun at all but the way I see it, is that Obama has the grassroots movement. Romney does not have this. I do not see any blogs like this one for Romney and I think that really says something. I feel like this quote from Steve Jobs says it best “people with passion change the world.” Following this blog makes me realize that there is a huge group of people with a passion for Obama and people with passion really can change the world… Hey we did it in 2008. Stay positive! Here is one of my favorite videos from Portland, Oregon the night that president Obama got elected: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbEA5ue2Be4&feature=fvwrel
Let’s hear from you more often
Hi, Lauren:) Welcome to TOD….we have a job to do, and only one job. Re elect this President. Talk to your friends, volunteer, donate, and GOTV. There are NO do overs….fight for him like your lives depend on it, because they do. Thanks for the great comment….do not be complacent, either…..let’s do this!
Welcome Lauren, post often. I enjoy hearing from the young folk who were so instrumental in keeping the enthusiasm for PBO going and growing in ’08. You guys are who we old geezers are going to need to rely on to help us in our later years, when we will be dependent on others to do our political bidding.
Welcome Lauren and thank for your uplifting comment.
For those of you interested, Florida has identified another 90 yo veteran as a non citizen and thus trying to strip him of his right to vote. The Sec of State spokesman, Chris Crate state that ” only a few have been inconvienced” by the states effort to purge folks from the voter roles. His phone number is 850 245 6522 and his email is Chris.email@example.com if you would like to enlightened him that we just had Memorial Day where we honored those who died while perserving our right to vote. I won’t type what my real thought are because they are not very nice.
One person “inconvenienced” in ONE PERSON TOO MANY.
Political Carnival has live feed up now for PBO’s speech
27 consecutive months of job growth despite GOP attempts at economic sabotage: thank you @BarackObama. Donate $27! donate.barackobama.com/page/contribut…— Chips (@___Chips___) June 01, 2012
Done….made it re-occurring too.
This and this again. We are not even at the halfway point in 2012 and so far the private sector has created over 930,000 jobs this year. Deal with it GOP.
That’s the way I’m looking at it too.
PBO needs to tap Ryan for a job on the stump with him! He’s good
So here is everybody! Left me hanging on the last thread. US companies are making record profits and their CEOs are earning outrages salaries. Production at those companies are higher than ever. The job numbers just tells me that corporations have no incentive to hire, when they can get the same bang for their buck with the same number of workers. They also know that in this climate, they don’t have to worry about losing employees to public sector jobs. They don’t have to worry about having to woo new hires with competitive benefits, when they can get interns who work 1-3 years unpaid labor. Those interns compete heavily to work for no pay. So until we can change the culture of m to the making low wage or no wage appealing, we’re in for more racing to the bottom.
I forgot to leave my political take for today earlier: As I listen to PBO, who btw doesn’t seem to be down in the dumps. He is stating his case and those who buy the ‘thug bs won’t care what he says. Those who are for him, has his back anyway. It’s those undecided, fence straddling, wishy washy, finger in the air, can’t make a decision, d’uh is there an election types who PBO has to convince. How anyone doesn’t have their mind made up by now, baffles me.

Press Release: Statement on the Employment Situation in May bit.ly/MfDz5M— Barack Obama News (@ObamaNews) June 01, 2012
I hope the supporters of PBO will take a lesson from him today. Stay true to hope and optimism, and don’t give in to fear and pessimism. One less than great jobs reports should not undo the long treck towards a better future for our country. Nor does it undo the very good news aspects of what is happening in many people’s lives. He is unflappable and believes in himself and in you. Stay faithful, and stay positive. 27 months of job growth, 4.3 million new jobs, record auto sales and production, and improved consumer demand. Good stuff. And the most important gift of all is being on the side of what is right and healing in this world, in this life.
Make it plain Bill R. Make it plain.
2.5M young adults now have healthcare. GM is number one in the world. Increased Pell Grants for students. Over a quarter million green jobs created. Yup. I’m definitely sticking with President Obama.
I just loved Snark Knoller’s “rebuttal”":
Obama said 2 weeks ago, "our businesses have created more than 4 million jobs over the past 26 months." Now only 4,069,000 after 27 months.— Snark Knoller (@SnarkKnoller) June 01, 2012
Damn shame the President can’t get more people out to hear him speak. Wonder what the problem is?(snark)
It’s sad, no one bothered to show up to hear him speak.
Obama: I’m proud to announce new partnerships between the military & manufacturing groups to make it easier for companies to hire veterans— White House Live (@WHLive) June 01, 2012
TOD folks, please take this survey about West Wing Week:
Thanks Meta for the reminder. I took the survey.
Executive action today to partner military and manufacturers to hire vets with proven skills to fast track to jobs in those skills. Task force to certify vets as qualified to meet industry qualifications for immediate placement.
I remember when those who left for military duty were guaranteed that their job would be waiting for them when they returned at the same level and pay scale. they could be gone 4 years and still had a job when they returned. Ans what’s this about about not enough people qualified to work. I remember the company hired people with those non-trainable soft skills, like ‘plays well with others’, then they trained on the stuff that was company specific.
Benen is on fire! http://maddowblog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/06/01/12009674-playing-the-blame-game?lite
Republicans quickly seized on Friday’s disappointing jobs report as fresh evidence of what they say are President Obama’s “job-killing” policies and further proof of the need for a new occupant in the White House next year.
At a certain level, this is almost amusing. Matt Yglesias noted this morning how “impressed” he is by conservatives’ ability to “pretend to believe Obama is 100% responsible” for all economic developments a year and a half into divided government. He added, “You can’t fake that kind of bulls**t, it takes real conviction.”
But we can go further with this. The same Republicans who are blaming monthly job totals on the White House have argued — last year and this year — that GOP measures have improved the economy, and that credit for recent improvements should go to them, not the president.
The logic is incoherent: for Republicans, when there’s discouraging economic news, Obama deserves all the blame. When there’s good economic news, Obama deserves none of the credit. Job losses in 2010 were Obama’s fault; job gains in early 2011 and 2012 have nothing do to with Obama; and tepid growth in the spring of 2012 are back to being Obama’s fault again.
Remember learning the “heads I win, tails you lose” game as a kid? It’s the GOP’s argument in a nutshell — whether the president deserves credit or blame for a monthly jobs report is due entirely to whether the report is encouraging or not.
Read the rest. It’s good.
It always helps to see our wonderful president and hear him speak, doesn’t it? I heard his message to “roll up our sleeves and never quit”. It also helps to see the warm and appreciative reception he receives everywhere he goes, people who are aware of how hard he’s working and about an obstructing congress. All those arms reaching out to shake his hand, to touch him, to connect—–good people everywhere—-all reassuring.
I have been meaning to ask anyone that could respond to me with information on this as help to me. I was on the OFA blog from the time they started. Then when the blog reformatted and was invaded by trolls I left and went to a couple of sites including this one but continued to donate to OFA. I do not donate online due to having been breeched before. I donate through the mail instead. I get regular donation pleas from OFA and respond. Recently I decided to try the OFA blog again but could not get past the donation page and when I don’t fill it out with a donation I cannot get into the blog now. There used to be a bypass to the donation page. Anyone got any ideas of how I could get back to the OFA blog now if I don’t donate online?
OG, click on the header name Obama Biden and then click on BLOG
I don’t have a problem. When the donate page comes up, I click on the page heading (Obmam/Biden) and it returns me to the OFA home page. (FLOTUS video on the current thread). Click on the heading of her video thread. That opens the comments and voila! Good Luck!
I feel better after watching our President speak and seeing all the supporters in Minnesota.
@fivethirtyeight 27 months of positive job growth is considered "down data" only if you're a Media HACK rooting for a Romney Presidency.— (@aspirational12) June 01, 2012
Chips and all. Have you seen this graphic of what will happen on the Supreme Court if Romney is elected vs President Obama. Should get EVERY Democrat to the voting booths!
Thanks for posting again. I posted late last night…was hoping Chips would put it up:) SO important
YEA! for our President. He put on his “big boy pants” and took it straight to the people. “Let’s roll up our sleeves and NEVER quit!”
Do you know what else helps? The Snark.

Just heard a guy on msnbc say that the Repubs are running around saying ‘Isn’t it great that things are so bad?’ That kind of message should really bother every voter, every American.
Are they so delusional that they think by electing Mitt that somehow the Global Economic Crisis will disappear ? Of course not…they want the Black guy out…period.
Global economic woes appear to ensnare US
Analysis: Latest jobs figures show that Americans are not escaping the European and Chinese stormclouds.
New post everyone:
Oh please stop. Tamron just called huffpo a “liberal website”—–as she mentions their big front page sad, grimacing Obama face with the headline DISASTER!
Of course….HP protects all of MSNBC… every thread about them is fully moderated.
I got banned over there for ” Disrespecting Professionals ” on a thread about Morning Junk
For Shame on you LInda..”Disrespecting Professional” Fuckheads! Lol.
This news will either prove to be just a bump in the road or something more. If it’s something more, we all better prepare ourselves for a real, ugly and close battle this November. I’m positive Obama will do whatever it takes to see this through and I trust his campaign fully, but, as I said yesterday, a great deal of this election is out of his hands. The economy, whether it grows just enough to see him through reelection or slows to the point where Romney ekes out a win, is something he can’t control.
Certainly, to a degree, he can control the message and he’ll try to lay the blame of this economic mess at the feet of Congress – but we won’t know how effective that is for a while. So, I’m guessing I am not the only Obama supporter who’s anxious and nervous and a bit down today. Not a surprise, since I’m easily jilted. But I know, as much as I want to believe otherwise, that Romney can still win this thing, especially if more economic data is as bad as it is today.
And while it’s important to point out that we’ve gained a good amount of jobs since 2009, those numbers mean little to the average American if the climate is going in the opposite direction. That’s the concern here. I’ve always felt Obama’s reelection chances are directly tied to the outlook of the economy. I still believe that, even if I have to concede his chances have taken a hit today. My fear isn’t the May numbers, you know? That’s just one month. It’s if June’s numbers are as bad as May and July’s are as bad as June’s. If they are, if they’re worse, the narrative heading into the most important stretch of the election will be set and the amount of hope or optimism or pointing to past growth might be limited in ultimately helping him win reelection.
Yeah, I’m negative today. I really am nervous not just about the President’s chances, but that we’re heading right back into an economic recession and as an American whose watched friends and loved ones struggle the last four and five years getting good employment, knowing families that continue to still struggle paying their house payments, that terrifies me maybe even more than Obama losing in November.
“They”say that if the economy isn’t just where “they” say it should be, Obama will lose. I find it hard to believe this.”They” say that things are close and I wonder who is voting for Romney. He’s a bully who sends his thugs out to ruin a speech by Axe and then laughs. Im sorry but those thugs looked like folks from BYU
Auto Sales Remain Bright Spot In Darkening Economy

Then, while he had paid staff(admittedly) run to The Axelrod event, he was saying that Obama supporters(who??? OWS?) was doing the same to Him.
I have seen this strategy for a while now.
