Morning everyone ;-)
Morning Roberta, morning everyone ;-)
Thankiyou Chips for the nice pic. They are such a stunning couple. I think America is so fortunate to have them in the WH. History will be very kind to them. I loved the shrubs yesterday. Broke out in luaghter.
Wow, don’t they look good. Love that picture.
Way to go, Roberta!
Good morning. And if this is first, I will faint.
Ooooooooooh Jackie, so close!!
Ooh, thank you, Chips. You made my day!
Love this picture.
Hiya UT, haven’t said a proper hellooooooooo in ages. How are ya doing?
I’m well Chips. It’s just crazy busy over here. I have summer school from May until August, then the fall semester begins again so basically I’m in school for the whole year. I’m up at 5AM everyday, leave at 6:45AM to beat the traffic. Classes begin at 8-8:30PM and go on for long blocks. Research work, summer job, volunteering for OFA and phew! I’m exhausted. I’ve just been trying to catch up on all I missed at TOD. I’m almost done catching up.
Thanks so much for the proper helloooooooo. It means a LOT. :D I missed TOD so much when I was offline and it emphasized for me how much you do for us Chips. The news media without TOD is pathetic. Because I was offline, I got to watch and get a comprehensive view of cable chatter. My goodness! Apart from Rev. Al, Martin Bashir, Krystal Ball, Richard Wolffe, Karen Finney, David Corn, Joy Ann Reid and sometimes Ed and Chris, the pundits were useless. The local stations were much better. It shocked me how much crap they feed people who aren’t lucky to have access to other means of news like TOD, etc. due to lack of time or resources. C-SPAN did much better than a lot of the pundits. Thank goodness for the above mentioned pundits.
But seriously, thank you sooooooooooooo much Chips for TOD. It is a HUGE help in counteracting the BS that comes at us from all sides. It’s going to be a long battle to November but man oh man am I fired up and ready to go especially as I see so much Obama 2012 gear, bumper stickers, and fighting spirit in Austin from people of all creeds, ages, and races.
Forgive the long windedness. How are you my friend? :D
Oh crikey UT …. “I’m up at 5AM everyday, leave at 6:45AM to beat the traffic”…. I’m exhausted even thinking about your schedule. And then: “Research work, summer job, volunteering for OFA” ….. you do know you’re amazing, right? Seriously UT, it’s people like you who volunteer, despite having insanely busy lives, who are going to make this happen. I’m going to be at PBO’s inauguration next year, and while I’m there I’m going to raise a glass (or several) to you, and people like you who made it possible. Completely love and admire ya.
Can’t be, I have just been reading the older posts. Up early today, Everybody is still sleeping. I';m catching up on all my blogs. Came here firs, :)
Good Morning all.
Good morning everyone. Congrats Roberta in MN on being first.
Okay, Roberta, you saved me from embarrassing myself by passing out. Congratulations. Did we tie? Stupid WP decided this morning that I had to log in again. SIGH.
Looks like a 7:31 tie to me! Congrats to both of you!!
“Swing state economic performance favors Obama”
This article pretty much sums up what I’ve been seeing in the electoral maps I follow. Despite how the national polls may be tightening the electoral maps have pretty much stayed the same showing PBO with many more paths to victory than Romney. I’ll post the article and couple of the electoral maps. It’s all about getting to 270.
I brought this post over from the last thread because I don’t think there’s gonna be a lot of positive news today based on the jobs report and Clinton’s comments on Bain; media has been all over these 2 narratives this morning. Just wanted to spread some positive news.
Corporate Democrats should keep their mouths shut….
I am so sick of them stepping on the President’s message and twisting it.
I actually like when they low ball the report. Previous months, they were saying a great report coming and when it did not…
So, I think it will be better than what it is, I also think they already know and just can’t report it until 8:30.
Published: June 1, 2012 Comment
WASHINGTON — From his first months in office, President Obama secretly ordered increasingly sophisticated attacks on the computer systems that run Iran’s main nuclear enrichment facilities, significantly expanding America’s first sustained use of cyberweapons, according to participants in the program.
Thanks for cleaning that up Chips. This is important.
I still am concerned with all this Classified information being leaked.
Anyways, this is good stuff…
Clinton said Romney was a good businessman…AND that PBO would win by 5-6 pts. Why are people focusing on one aspect of what he said. STOP PAYING ATTENTION TO THE MEDIA. THEY WILL ALWAYS BE AGAINST THE PRESIDENT.
The people here at TOD are the choir and in a sense it’s own echo chamber. The way the media is reporting it is that “Clinton says Romneys record at Bain was sterling.” There are tens of millions of voters outside of TOD who ARE influenced by this. I’m more annoyed that we have maybe 5 reliable surrogates who can stay on message. If you stay on message the media won’t be able to pick these 15 second soundbites out and ignore the rest. Stephanie Cutter is going to be on Sunday vs. Romneys spox. Hopefully she can hold her own during their faceoff. I know she’s good in individual interviews but I’ve never seen her versus anyone.
She is a Lawyer!
In June 2008 she was appointed as chief of staff to Michelle Obama for the 2008 Presidential general election campaign. She served as the Chief Spokesperson for the Obama-Biden Transition Project. She served as Timothy Geithner’s counselor. In May 2009, she was appointed to serve as adviser to President Obama in the Supreme Court nominations. Later that year, GQ Magazine named Cutter one of the 50 most powerful people in Washington.
Melanie, you are giving the MSM too much credit. No matter what the surrogates say..THEY WILL ALWAYS FIND A NEGATIVE FOR PBO. Michelle could get up there and say Romney is a nice family guy…and they will say “Obama’s wife wavering in her support of her husband”. The other day Ann Romney said she agreed with Mitt 90% of the time. Hmmm..What is the 10% they disagree on. THIS was not covered in the MSM. Why? They don’t want to report it. All bad news for Obama. All good news for Romney. They have a narrative and they will stick to the script. We know this…so we shouldn’t fall for their trap.
It is scary that Bain is so well connected in the Beltway and Ny!
It is…but Wall Street is where folks get their monies. Don’t bite the hands that feed and clothe ya. That’s why when Patrick or Booker say something…I’m not surprised. Citizens United didn’t make it better…Clinton gets a bunch of money from his Global Initiative from Wall Street.
Exactly. Unfortunately what matters is the bit of noise that the general public hears. That’s why we’re upset here. Swing voters are not going to take the time to find the context of the comment. frankly even in context this was an AWFUL thing for Clinton to say. It was a betrayal of the campaign and of his wife who serves in this administration.
When you hear the whiners who think Hillary would have been some progressive lion, it’s laughable. Next to the black guy, the people the RW hates more than anyone are the Clintons. They would have turned up every bit a sleaze they could have found to destroy her Presidency.
And Bill would have given them the ammunition.
I’m furious at what Clinton said. I am particularly furious that this will be the only context we hear about Clinton today and not anything positive about him helping Barrett in WI. He’s a selfish jerk.
57, Bill even sabotaged Hillary in SC. He is a selfish being. Just think what he will do to someone else.
I came on the blog today through my email that has Yahoo news articles on it. It was a downer to see the news headline of
” Bill Clinton criticizes Obama’s Bain attacks praises Romney’s ‘sterling business career'”. I clicked on the article to read it thinking WTF is wrong with him? I saw that he didn’t completely support Romney over Obama but that is what it appeared like in the heading. He was as bad as the NJ mayor, Booker. You would think he would have some sense to him by now.
Also there was an article inferring that Elizabeth Warren admitted her Cherokee heritage was known by her employers as if that was a crime. I know that if you are going to use your tribal affiliations as minority status the employers have to have your official tribal roll number since she is not an enlisted member that would not be possible.
Also there is the spin the media gave on the numbers on the economy. Not the best but it would have been better if the AJA was past and not blocked by the GOP legislators.
Here’s my take on Bill Clinton: until PBO he was considered the most brilliant Democratic politician since FDR. Even his most deranged enemies respected his political skill.
This is undoubtedly true. Which is why there is simply no excuse for PBO supporters to have to waste their time digging through context to diffuse his comments.
Bill Clinton knows what will end up in a soundbite. There are no ‘slips’ and this was no slip. No one of his alleged political skill would hand over a few news cycles in this manner unless — and I’m being very generous here — there is a subconscious demon afoot. There is no way he did not know how his words would be used against PBO. And we simply cannot afford these tiny cuts and he knows that.
I stuck by Bill Clinton through impeachment. I didn’t care about his personal peccadillos and deplored it be using against a President in this manner. I stuck by him even though some of his policies and bills have brought down upon us the horror we are living through today. He was my Democratic President and I supported him. He had a good heart, I thought.
Until the 2008 primaries when I saw what his heart really is. Then the scales changed for me.
Think back over the last 4 years. Bill will be remembered more for the petty cuts than his full-on support for this President.
Eff Bill Clinton. We don’t have time undoing the selfish damage of these bastards. Our job is hard enough. PBO’s job is hard enough. We need help and support that we can count on, not cringing for Bill Clinton’s next ‘misstatement’. Misstatement, my ass. Not from the alleged best Democratic politician since FDR. Bullshit.
Helloooooooo Chips and TOD. I’m baaaaaaaaaaaack or heeeeeeeeeere like the girl in the Poltergeist. :D
UT!!!!!!!!!!!! Missed ya, ya crazy girl!!!!
Are you the short little Psychic that dropped the Tennis ball through the Floor?
UT! Hey There! :)
Hiya Ut. Wonderful to see you back on TOD!
Good morning HF, have a great day!

Mitt Romney Ordered $55,000 ‘Phantom Park’ Car Elevator, Designer Says
THE RACHEL MADDOW SHOW: “Romney’s Lying Problem”
Yesterday, Mitt Romney made comments in front of Solyndra. The very first sentence he spoke was, you guessed it, A LIE. Rachel did her homework and totally debunked Romneys lies about Solyndra and President Obama. It’s a long segment but well worth your time.
Remember, the first ad of his campaign went after President Obama and included blatant lies. He was called out, but he continues to lie even when the lies have been debunked. This man has a serious character flaw. His lack of integrity is on constant display but the response from the mainstream media is a shrug. I will be sending this to the Truth Team. But this segment needs to be sent to network and cable shows asking a simple question. Why are you allowing Mitt Romney to constantly lie (about everything) without informing the American people of the facts. Do your job.
Rachel Maddow marvels at the ability of Mitt Romney to tell plain checkable lies coming right out of his face, without being called on those lies by the media assigned to cover his candidacy.
I guess Joe Biden was caught leaning back in His Seat and talking to Rove.
Wonder what he said?
Biden: You know you’re gonna loooooose!
Hope everyone is having a great day. Can’t stay around much, have to go to work. Just want to thank everyone that gave to the Obama 2012 re-election campaign before the deadline. I am one of those but I know that my small donation is no match for the Pacs on the otherside. Our strength is new voter registration and GOTV. Yes, we here in Florida are jumping through hoops to register new voters but, we will carry this state again.
Now for my rant:
Bill Clinton needs to stop talking. His only motive is to make sure that history records his record better than it was. President Obama has spent three years cleaning up his mess too. What President enacted DOMA, DADT, and repealed Glass Stegal? It is CLINTON!!!! WE will keep the White House despite of Clinton.
The chances of him stopping talking are minimal considering they sent him to Milwaukee and the President has invited him to do some joint fundraising.
DADT 19 years ago was a positive step. A compromise because Clinton wanted to eliminate all restrictions and Sam Nunn who was the powerful Armed Services Chairman and military leaders did not.
Lots of excuses and cover for Bill Clinton…
Even as he constantly exposes himself as a saboteur and remains underhanded, hostile and intent on undercutting President Obama who for the sake of a cohesive Democratic party continues to extend an olive branch to this self-serving and vindictive megalomaniac…
With the clock winding down in the Wisconsin recall, Republican Gov. Scott Walker and Democratic Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett met Thursday night for a final debate — one that quickly turned into a knockdown, drag-out fight.
The previous debate last week was essentially a draw, in which both candidates performed solidly at tasks they each needed to accomplish in terms of public credibility. This time, though, Barrett did not let up in his attacks on Walker, and had a ready response to each of Walker’s own knocks against him.
But whether it will be enough of a momentum boost for Barrett, who is still trailing Walker in polling and cash heading into Tuesday’s election, remains to be seen.
Okay, I’m getting nervous now:

Well, GM is a very folksy place, and us folksy types love our GM autos, so back atcha amk!
69k back up to 8.2%. Prepare for the onslaught!
Thank you Congress.
Oh Good Lord..
Pass the damn Jobs Act and the Transportation Bill….
Nope! Congress wants to get rid of all Federal services, and increase military spending and renew Bush taxcuts- somehow this will make the Economy boom! SMH!
Oh. My. GOD>>>>>>>
Okay, this is going to be a seriously shit day:
U.S. MAY PAYROLLS RISE 69,000, JOBLESS RATE RISES TO 8.2%
Good morning all.
Make sure you Guys are either doing something or watching Espn. The Media is going to be very hard on the President all weekend.
I agree!! Stay away from all media for the next week. It’s going to be brutal out there.
Have already seen it on twitter—-Harwood saying bad news for Obama re-election campaign. Looks like they were all ready to pounce, had their tweets ready to roll. And I cannot take one more glimpse of Chuck Toad’s smug face. He thinks he is some brilliant political mind despite no credentials. And it would be helpful if the Obama campaign surrogates, instead of wasting all their time playing footsie with the big money boys, would instead make it clear at every appearance that the congressional Repubs are blocking and stalling every jobs bill, every economic remedy.
Gird your loins everybody on this great getting up day!! The job numbers are out and it’s not good. So, get out your Pepto and Maalox cause this is going to be all day everyday with spin and spoof. Be not dismayed, it’s up to 8.2% and only 69K private sector jobs, 3K more unemployed. Hang on to your uppers folks!!
The good news? Oil is down, so gas prices will follow. Other good news? Shmitt is still a robotic llyin’ dirty damn dawg!
Except in California and the rest of the west coast.
Good morning TOD friends. Today will be a good day for me to take a break from the tv and catch up on my old movies. I refuse to listen to the doom and gloom about the employment numbers and Dems defending Bain and Robney.
Ditto! It’s pouring here in Florida!
The GOP is Threatening Your Job
If you have to sabotage the economy to win, your ideas suck
Of all the terrible lessons the Republicans have learned since 2009, the worst is: Economic sabotage works.
Remember this: We have a deficit that is almost entirely made up of policies the GOP passed and would hold the economy hostage again to keep. Simply: GOP policies—the Bush tax cuts, the wars, Medicare D—created the deficit. But the only things the GOP will cut are the social safety net that they’ve always opposed. And they won’t compromise, ever.
A small group of conservative extremists are using their representatives in Congress to threaten your livelihood. Unless America says, “The GOP’s irresponsible economic sabotage must stop,” the next job that it costs us may be yours.
I remember hearing Romney admit in an interview recently that you could not take the deficit down too quickly or it would put us back into recession. Not in all those words but similar. Anyhow, then I realized with all of the GOP blocking of any jobs it is possible the GOP could get back in and do what Obama tried to do themselves getting credit for saving the economy instead of all their threats. That is also a horror scenario in that it could destroy the Dem Party. If they do what they say they want to do ideologically it will destroy our country. Either way it is not good.
I had to Change MSNBainC, they are way over the Top. I am now watching NFL network.
My goodness, You would think this President just lit off a nuclear weapon, in one of our Cities! LOL!
Today, I will catch up on my recorded “Hatfields and McCoys” with Kevin Costner on the History Channel. :)

Unemployment rate rose mainly for good reasons, not bad–people coming back into job market.— Neil Irwin (@Neil_Irwin) June 01, 2012
Thank you! Geez. You can’t win either way. People coming back or staying on the sidelines- ITS ALL BAD NEWS.
He’ right. My sister and nephew re-entered the job market this yr, and they were both lucky enough to find one. My youngest sister had a boss who ran the company like Bush ran the economy so she just re-entered the job market la few weeks ago.
As we stay away from the media for our sanity please DON’T tell us what they are saying whoever chooses to watch cable news. Good morning all.
Disappointing news, what happen to the info from (ADA is that right, ) there were talk of 150,000, what happen? This is just what the Republicans want, nothing won’t be pass because this suits them just fine.
What this jobs report really shows is the effectiveness of the GOP plan to sabotage the economy ahead of the election by blocking jobs bills
Just read the economy added 69k jobs for the mo. of May. UE ticks up to 8.2% But we can’t make cars fast enough in MI, and the UE rate is going down. this is weird, when Bush was President it was just the opposite.
Ok, I see the deluge is beginning over the job numbers. Just not in the mood for the usual suspects to start coming out and OMGGGGGG-ing, so I’ll just say Good Morning TOD and bid ya’ll adieu for the rest of the day and maybe the weekend. No news program or twitter today either.
I’ll just leave ya’ll with one thought I had about the media yesterday:
“I was just thinking about some of the goings on in the press yesterday, and I just gotta say, that when I am at my most pessimistic times (usually co-insiding with that time of the month…LOL), I can begin to believe that Obama could actually lose this thing, not because of his campaign strategy (they are the best and way better than R-Money’s, IMHO), not because of the birther thing (cause if u are apt to believe this birther biz, u are likely NOT an Obama voter any darn way) and not because of the economy (not that the econ news being not so bright helps Obama, but I’m still not sure if it completly kills his chances yet).
I think the main reason is that the deck in the media is already stacked and it just seems like the MSM where people get much of their political news seems so damn afraid to call R-Money and his campaign and the whole GOP pack of liars on their bullshit. Between the bullshit fact checkers, the idiot pundits who just want the rating (I’m looking at you Anderson, Tweety, CNN etc) and the beat reporters and analysts who challenge nothing R-money says or does, but challenges any and everything said by afflitiates of the Obama campaign and WH, it just some times feels like we are fighting against a wall to try to get sound to the other side, but nothing can be done because the MSM in just too interested in the horserace.
Case in point when reporting on R-money’s crew disrupting the Axelrod press conference like they were the Howard Stern Show and baba boo-ee, and R-Money’s contention that the Obama campaign does the same damn thing, Berger and the reporter and now Jessica Yellin laughed it up and made no mention that the Obama campaign would do no such damn thing”
I’ll see you guys on the flip-side of the new cycle.
lamh35, contact Yellin and Berger and tell them what you think and tell them to prove that the Obama campaign have done this also. You knoe CNN is TeaNN, and MSNBC is just as bad.
Meme’s matter. Most people are not like us. They don’t follow politics and they don’t get their news from blogs. Know how most get their national news. In passing, in the morning while they’re getting dressed and making breakfast and maybe in the evening while making dinner. Most don’t even sit down and actively watch these shows. It’s what they hear in passing. And what they are hearing in passing is that Romney is a success who could fix this economy and even President Obama supporters, like Bill Clinton, believe that. That’s what they’re taking in. And that’s why taking on the media needs to be THE communications strategy.
And this is why so many of us from the start have been shouting about how the Obama campaign needs to start fighting the media. Forget the Romney campaign apparatus. They are irrelevant. Romney’s real campaign apparatus is the MSM. It’s that simple. This is why so many of us were ticked off about the whole Ann Romney-Hilary Rosen dust up. It was exactly what we’d all been talking about. The Obama campaign reacted as if they were dealing with a fair opponent and a fair media. And you can’t do that. You can’t play by the rules when your opponent and the referee are on the side playing by a completely different set of rules.
I’ve been saying it for months and months. I even said it during the health care push. The Obama campaign needs to go after the MEDIA. Every time they are on tv, they should be challenging the interviewer. When Andrea Mitchell brings up some bogus republican talking point, they need to say to her, “Why are you pushing republican talking points” right there live on tv. You don’t just say the point is wrong and then try to explain yourself. You first and foremost let the audience know that that Andrea Mitchell is a complete liar, right there on live tv.
The only reason that Mitt Romney is polling anywhere near the President is because of the mainstream media. Period. If the rules were fair, Romney would be polling in the low 30s. Easily. The MSM are not only cheating by boosting Romney, but they are actively pushing lies about the President’s record. They are actually lying on the President as much as Romney is! It’s past time for them to quit dealing with this like the rules are fair and go after the crooked referees.
There’s 2 words in the media and even the campaign that are taboo………..nobody never mention it, well beside a few hosts on MSNMC.
Liar and racist.
To always refer to Romney as a flip flopper is wrong….it is a cute word that hide what he really is…..a serial liar…..he is never called out on his lies in the media…..and he is never called a liar…..and this is very wrong.
The same with all the birthers out there….they are not birthers, they are racists……so to always refer to Donald Trump as a birther and not a racist is wrong…
That’s why Mitt Romney can fund raise with him…..if the truth would be said…..let’s say it’s bad PR to pall around with a racist….not a problem with a birther…….so very wrong,……
I don’t know what to say, except the election isn’t tomorrow, it’s November 6th. And I do recall President Obama saying the economy is not out of the woods here, there will still be some more bumps in the road, but we are still heading in the right direction. The cable pundits are doing what they get paid to do. We still have to keep the faith, it’s alright to be down with today news, I’m sure the President is feeling the same, but saying that the President don’t have a chance, that is just ratings, anti-Obama talk. We shall see November 6th.
Morning! I’d classify this as good news:)
Good morning, TODville. This will be a rough day but stay strong, stand your ground and maintain your balance. And stay away from the effing media whose job it is to make you angry and depressed.
Just a little anecdote: For my birthday, I bought myself two pieces of furniture I’ve wanted for a very long time but have put off buying. The company said the delivery guys would call me yesterday to give me a time they would arrive. Well, I didn’t get a call until 8:15pm. The guy apologized for calling so late and blurted out that the economy is booming and they can’t keep up with all the business. This is the furniture industry, which says that people are spending on their homes. So things are improving on some fronts. Stay positive.
Doesn’t this stat change very year as college students suspend classes and enter or re-enter the work force, looking for summer employment? We have seen this before, but this is an election year, therefore, cannon fodder! Let’s get to work! You’d think they get dizzy from all the spinning…
http://thepoliticalcarnival.net/2012/05/31/bonus-cartoon-of-the-day-summer-reruns/ Funny, but pathetic
People are right to be ticked off at Clinton. Should it be our main focus today. No, but they are totally right to be pissed. Bill Clinton is not stupid. He is not some babe in the political woods. He knows what part of his statement would matter to the press, and he made sure to give it to them. It was pure sabotage. He’s now just a jealous old man. He couldn’t even fully support his own wife in ’08, where he would constantly step on her news cycle with some outrageous statement about Sen. Obama. He knew exactly what he was doing and how the media would report it.
It seem afew Democrats have stab the Obama campaign in the back over this Bain issue. Bain must have it hand in alot of politicians hip pockets.
I was reading the comments I missed in the other thread……I learned something new.
It was a comment from 57andfemale
‘Bill Clinton — . Who gave us the Telecom Bill which gave us unbridled RW media.”
I didn’t know that….
When I think about the pathetic state of the media, I always think about the Fairness Doctrine that was abolished……
I never heard about the Telecom Bill. I’m going to read about it
YES, this is one of my biggest beefs with him. He completely deregulated the broadcasting market, reconsolidated the telecom giants. Pure crap.
Wow meta, this is awful…..I didn’t know he was responsible for that.
Excuse me, but rather than wring our hands, and hang our heads as if this jobs report is the President’s fault…..HOW ABOUT THIS…
The U.S. economy added just 69,000 jobs in May, far below economists’ expectations. The report suggests that the GOP’s deep spending cuts and other austerity measures have undermined growth.
Is THIS statement not the problem at hand here???? The GD GOP have not wanted to spend a thin dime, have not passed jobs, in fact “jobs” isn’t even on their radar, and we all know why….THIS BELONGS TO THEM! LET THEM OWN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have the President left for Minnesota yet?
Awaiting PBO’s arrival at Andrews: http://edition.cnn.com/video/flashLive/live.html?stream=4
and maybe here: http://www.cbsnews.com/liveFeed/widget.shtml
desertflower, we all know the Republicans have been sabotaging the economy. The problem is will anyone else see that also. We know the anti-Obama media won’t. Instead of trying to pass abortion bills, they should be trying to strengthen the economy, passing the highway bill. But they won’t.
You have it exactly right, DF. GOP governors across the country are implementing austerity measures that are killing businesses and squeezing schools so much they have to fire teachers. John Boehner has been sitting on the American Jobs Act for months. Where is the money for infrastructure jobs that the president asked for? Where are the investments in innovations and in education? The president is giving a speech today on Congresses “to do” list. Why haven’t they acted??? The entire GOP has been conspiring to bring down the economy for political purposes. We don’t have a press that does its jobs. That means we have to. No sitting around feeling depressed and helpless. Pick up a phone, call people and tell them you’re outraged about what the GOP is doing to undermine the economy. Write an LTE. Call you congressman, especially if he/she is a Republican. Forget Clinton and any blowhards who get time on tv. Their words will be forgotten in a couple of days. What matters is that the president and the Democrats are working FOR people, while the whole united GOP is working AGAINST them. If anybody complains about the job numbers, say, “That’s why we need a Democratic Congress!” Do not for one nanosecond accept any criticism of the president based on these numbers. People will see that we’re strong and we will never weaken in our support of the president and that will give them the courage to join us.
THAT’S what I’m talking about!! This. This. This.!!!! Thank you, jackie…you understand EXACTLY where I’m coming from:) We ALL need to feel this way….THEY NEED TO OWN THIS! PBO can’t do this by himself
I’m going to borrow a few lines from your comment to tweet Jackie….great comment
Take a look at this site: http://www.4thestate.net/
Here’s why the jobs report is hard for me——–what I just saw with my very own eyes driving last week from Illinois to Ct. We saw construction everywhere——roads being worked on in every state, across entire states—–we drove with cones and traffic lanes reduced for 100’s of miles. Every single bridge we encountered was under construction. I think when I popped in here from a motel stop I asked if a jobs bill passed because it sure looked like it. And we even commented that it looked like the economy was improving everywhere——Chrysler and GM auto plants with 1000’s of employee cars in the parking lots, same with office parks everywhere, businesses and homes under construction. Restaurants and shopping centers busy everywhere——I was on the lookout. So—–it’s like don’t believe your lying eyes for me in accepting these dismal numbers. The only thing I can think of is evidence that many big companies with GOP CEOs keep laying off more and more people so that fewer and fewer people need to do more and more work despite unprecedented profits—–as an assist to affecting jobs numbers for the presidential campaign.
I agree Dotster. This is the push to keep the job rate over 8%. I saw an article a couple of weeks ago that said companies are requiring more work with less employees. The good news is there was 69,000 jobs created last month. We were loking at losses for a yearafter the President took office. They are not going to win. Good wins over evil, it just doesn’t happen fast enough for us.
Dotster, most of us are seeing the same thing. We are also seeing homes in our neighborhood being sold, friends and relatives getting jobs, more people in stores, more people at restaurants, greater confidence expressed in conversations. This is what people see and hear on the ground–not abstract numbers. My sister, who is 76, actually does not want another full time job, but is collecting UE because her company closed down and she lost the job she had. Yet she is –at 76 and living in a coal mining area of PA–getting offers every week. Something is not being picked up in the numbers, which gives the media their little game to play for a while. But things are being picked up where people live and that’s what counts.
I don’t know how many people I’ve met saying they have gone back to work or are back to working a full shift. And in our neck of the woods there is also plenty of construction and homes which were on the market forever being sold. I agree something isn’t adding up.
That’s right, count the cranes in operation anywhere… Over Seattle skyline I often see 8-10-14 cranes from only one window, someone is operating them they don’t just sit there for no reason!
Okay, everybody take a cold shower and cool off. No, the job numbers were not good. But really, anything under 200K would have been spun as bad and anything but a 1% drop in the UE would have been spun as bad. Also, get off people’s cases who say Bain was a good company for its purposes. PBO has even said that. His push is not that Bain was bad at what it did, but rather that Mitt’s experience at Bain is not what is needed to lead the country.
The whole point here is that the President is not trying to do character assassination, he is trying to do qualification assassination.
Our efforts have to be focused on education. The jobs problem is the direct result of the Republican Congress doing absolutely nothing to promote job growth, and in fact are working to sabotage the country. Write LTE’s. I just sent off two. Whenever you here someone talk about the economy, say something like, “Boy, it is ineteresting how the economy was really moving in the right direction until the Republicans took control of the House and stopped doing anything to create jobs.”
But the House is now debating another abortion bill, the republicans are calling it the new war on women.
Yeah, they could care less about jobs, they want all their culture bills passed now!
Good morning japa21. I will never buy into the spin that Romney did a “stellar” job at Bain when so many lives were ruined.
japa21, I agree. I am just going to say we have to remain strong.
I would not attempt to post this first. Top of the day to you all! Thank you all for your ideas and thoughtful suggestions in keep on keeping on. I do value all the input you gave to me. If I was not doing all of what you suggested my life would really have made a turn toward finding employment. This is a great site. Nowhere on the web have I found laughter, fun, real talk (Go PBO and FL) and sheer joy in one spot. Where I came from it might be illegal to think let alone speak such nonsense : ). Sorry, yet in my world there is a different reality. There are some people who turn their face when I approach pretending that I am a ghost or I am not there. Some shrug their shoulders in an unwelcome manner giving me the feeling to please not bother them. If the past 40 years of my life facing racism and finding healthy people to work with me in living in America were the typical experience I have faced these past years than I would not find it the least bit strange. Now my phone will turn off if I happen to say the wrong word and believe me I am a very uncomplicated person. I worked my butt off being a sandwich generation person while attaining my undergraduate degree in biology hoping to become a doctor. I was tricked into an (American medical school in the Caribbean) which was worst than Chucky or Nightmare on Elm Street. Finding my way to do something that I could potentially enjoy, one class before I finished my lpc degree I became homeless. I have written a book and saved my pennies to publish it and had to spend every dime moving to a location that I could seek work without a cloud over all my efforts. You can’t imagine the struggle to keep healthy by desiring to exercise and eat a healthy diet because if you get sick you would just become a number in a system. I went from having at least five doctors taking care of my needs including a dentist to hoping and praying for how I will be able to stay indoors for the next week. This is my reality. I have broken my silence because it seems that I am in a nightmare alone. Still, I thank you for the conversations on staying positive and keep networking. My computer is full of the job process and my heart is broken from the interactions. I will end this post with I have moved to a beautiful new place and I have started the process over again which gives me hope.
Hello onefourlife, I have been reading your comments and wonder if you would consider working in the field of elderly care? I suspect you might be overqualified, but the demand is great and the work is very important. I started out 6 years ago with an agency, to get a feel for whether I had any aptitude, and to test the waters, so to speak. They will be required to do do a background check, and you will need up to date TB shots, 2-step most likely. At first the pay is not good, but if things go well, in a year or two, you might consider going independent, according to whatever State Licensing and qualifications are needed to do so. You sound like a caring person, and if you are comfortable here at TOD, I’m sure I am right about that! I felt moved to suggest this to you, as over the past 6 years I have found this work to be incomparable to all my past experience, and am grateful to be of a nature to provide such care for our elderly and infirm.
Good luck and many blessings to you in your endeavors to find your way!
Thank you for your sweet words. I took care of my Mother and helped with my Grandmother the last years of their lives. Yet, that is not in my interest at all. I can respect your gift and calling. I hope you have a great day.
THE QUESTION EVERYONE SHOULD BE ASKING TODAY …………
Are we better off now as a result of Republican obstructionism and intransigence, or would we have been better off if popular and effective job-creation measures had been approved?
THE ROAD NOT TAKEN
By Steve Bnen
Despite public clamoring for action on jobs, congressional Republicans reflexively killed the American Jobs Act, saying it was unnecessary. The House wouldn’t bring it up for a vote, and a Republican filibuster killed it in the Senate. For GOP policymakers, this was a time when Washington should stop investing in job creation and start focusing on austerity — lower the deficit, take capital out of the economy, and everything would work out fine.
As panic sets in after this morning’s brutal jobs report, take a moment to consider a hypothetical: what would the economy look like today if Congress had followed Obama’s lead, responded to public-opinion polls, and passed the American Jobs Act? In 2012, do you think the nation could use those 1.3 million jobs or not?
Are we better off now as a result of Republican obstructionism and intransigence, or would we have been better off if popular and effective job-creation measures had been approved?
Must read: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/01/opinion/krugman-the-austerity-agenda.html?_r=2&ref=opinion
Well, that’s where it gets interesting. For when you push “austerians” on the badness of their metaphor, they almost always retreat to assertions along the lines of: “But it’s essential that we shrink the size of the state.”
Now, these assertions often go along with claims that the economic crisis itself demonstrates the need to shrink government. But that’s manifestly not true. Look at the countries in Europe that have weathered the storm best, and near the top of the list you’ll find big-government nations like Sweden and Austria.
And if you look, on the other hand, at the nations conservatives admired before the crisis, you’ll find George Osborne, Britain’s chancellor of the Exchequer and the architect of the country’s current economic policy, describing Ireland as “a shining example of the art of the possible.” Meanwhile, the Cato Institute was praising Iceland’s low taxes and hoping that other industrial nations “will learn from Iceland’s success.”
So the austerity drive in Britain isn’t really about debt and deficits at all; it’s about using deficit panic as an excuse to dismantle social programs. And this is, of course, exactly the same thing that has been happening in America.
Read that carefully. “Using deficit panic as an excuse to dismantle social programs..” BINGO!
New post everyone:
Right. The GOP is too busy passing abortion bills to be bothered with jobs. That’s what they ran on in 2010 jobs. Where is the legislation for the jobs, jobs, jobs that they promised. The President can’t do it alone. Ot -After seeing the Clinton Documentary on PBS, i can understand why he is worried about his legacy. The man loves the spotlight as much as he loved being the President. I sure hate to see him becoming a bitter old man, It’s not flattering at all. It suits John McCain, but not Bill Clinton.
LOL! CNN has that little screen on the right showing the Dow. They have not shown this since September of 08.
When People say both sides do it, now I know they mean the DLC Democrats. And now I know who they are.
