Love you. Read my post :) Comments please….
Thank you, Bobfr! Keep ‘em coming.
Reposted from the thread I was talking to myself on :) PLEASE READ AND GIVE FEEDBACK!!
OK. Everyone need to bear with me here. I got this idea for this while reading LL’s piece at TPV (special thanks, LL)….as so many of us are aware, on Jan 20, 2009, members of the Republican party sought to purposefully undermine not just the President, but the entire country for their own greed and love of power. No love of country. No care for struggling Americans that had been ruined by the policies of these very people and the Bush Administration…and the same policies that Romney would have us DO ALL OVER AGAIN. We need to get America to see this. Millions of people need to see this and share it with their families, friends and neighbors. The President can’t say this, but WE can.
These same men, think that they should be entitled to still serve, collect a pension and benefits for LIFE, paid for by US, the taxpayers, after they plotted to destroy this President and the economy of the US.That’s insane.I don’t want to reward this behavior, I want to get rid of it before it becomes just part and parcel of how things in Washington work. It’s bad enough that the SC has seen fit to strip us of our democracy with Citizens United, enabling wealthy people to buy votes and favors, leaving most of America to deal with this reckless and UNAmerican behavior.
My thought is this: In addition to going what we are to spread this message, I think that we need a well spoken volunteer to craft a petition to Color of Change, calling for the public apology, resignations and stripping of benefits for all the elected representatives that participated in this treasonous, seditious act upon this country.Color of Change has become a force to be reckoned with. A force for justice and fairness….and they have a wide swath of people to send this message to.
What do you think? Someone with a great mastery of words could write the petition. Bob, LL, Tally…so many to choose from here! I think we can do this….as I made my bed this morning…i thought of these traitors thinking they a) would never get caught b) never cause outrage c) would be able to collect a pension and benefits for life…after plotting this on America. It made my blood boil!
What does everyone say to this??? Suggestions???
It’s a fine suggestion, df. And, you have essentially already written it!! You do quite well with words, so go for it! And, let us know and we will support you and them. We can all Tweet your comment to them, as a way to let them know we are supportive. Let us know if you’d like that to happen.
I think the bulk of the wording and complaint is there in the first 2 paragraphs….why don’t we just tweek it here and I’ll send it on…
Go for it … Post a draft and we can offer edits, if needed …
One thing I DON’T want to do, would be to endanger PBO in any way…or undermine anything that he does. I don’t think that doing this falls into that category, but I want to make sure that I’m not missing something.
One possible negative outcome MIGHT be it becomes a distraction with people focused on Color of Change. The media might begin to pick Change apart more than they already have. They could essentially do an ACORN to the organization.
You may be right about who to write the petition. Tally, UAustin, Bobfr Chips even, HZ you all have a way with words that work for me. :) I’ll sign it. S-Span has had almost all R’s on today. What a crap. since Comcast took over NBC that is all that is happeing. sigh.
Just gave them a little heads up, df ;)
@ColorOfChange Demand prosecution of those who fomented & implemented the #InaugurationInsurgency causing grave harm politicususa.com/treasonous-rep…— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) June 14, 2012
Excellent suggestion, df! Lets do it.
Terrific idea, Df. I’ll be happy to sign.
Do it – I will support the petition in any way I can. Such a great idea.
Washington Post has is streaming now. Very lively crowd chanting repeated “Four more years.” C-Span 3 is also showing it.
OK I am on internet Exp so the one I posted at Firefox under Megpiepie1 and RobertainMn needs to be deleted. Thanks Chips.
What the hell is Romney doing on before our President. He is really a sleaze ball.
All he talks about is PBO.
That’s all he has – he’s running against PBO not “for” anything. Methinks people all around the country are finally starting to talk about that.
Someone on an earlier thread said Romney’s run for President is a number on his bucket list. That is it in a nutshell. He is running because he has always wanted to be President and he has the money to buy the election. It is not because he wants to help this country.
Exactly, Jackie. And Annie thinks it’s “their turn,” or at least that’s what Willard told her.
yes, which is why shrub ran, and look how that turned out.
I see Romney, the state department and nothing on the links.
CSPAN 3 is also televising the speech LIVE :)
PBO’s event also streaming here: http://www.wkyc.com/news/article/248341/45/LIVE-President-Obama-delivers-speech-in-Cleveland
Thanks JER. The crowd sounds pumped before the speech!
Can you please live blog for me? I can’t watch, too busy at work. Thanks in advance.
I swear, I just heard “let’s go Mitt”
STUDY: GOP calls Obama a "job killer," media relentlessly repeats it uncritically thkpr.gs/MSj25l— ThinkProgress (@thinkprogress) June 14, 2012
Mark Knoller @markknoller
Campaign slogan on Romney’s lectern: “Putting Jobs First.”
Who was it yesterday on TOD who came up with his new slogan, “It Takes a Pillage” ?
It’s about as accurate as the “country first” slogan from 2008.
“Putting jobs first”. Been there, done that with the midterms. How did that work out, America?
P.S.: I like the bumper-sticker: Romney: It Takes a Pillage!
Another angry & dishonest speech from @MittRomney in OH today. So much for the "new ideas" that @andreamsaul said were coming.— Lis Smith (@Lis_Smith) June 14, 2012
Lovin’ me some Lis Smith!
Willard is talking about people investing their money in the US. Wonder if Bob Schieffer will ask him on Sunday about his overseas accounts.
This crowd seems VERY lively and pumped up.
they’re going to be handpicking these crowds. remember W. never uttered a word where the entire audience wasn’t screened and given effing loyalty oaths to sign. So expect Mittens to get good responses.
Unless he trashes diners owned by hardworking Americans and doesn’t bother to even say ‘thank you’.
57, I wasn’t talking about Willard’s crowd, I was referring to PBO’s crowd! The crowd was chanting “FOUR MORE YEARS!” and “FIRED UP-READY TO GO!” and PBO hasn’t even appeared yet :) :)
I didn’t watch Willard’s speech.
I was about to worry about you, ruining your day watching Mittens.
So the LIAR made a mistake to speak before the President. I can’t wait for the BITCH SLAP FROM MY PRESIDENT.
Hey, did everyone know that LOLGOP is ‘Eclectablog’? Am I dense?
They are working together. They aren’t the same people. I don’t think. Eclectablog, put out an announcement that LOLGOP would be posting on his sight.
Oh. Okay. Got it.
I am dense also, Dud. LOLGOP just one of my favorites.
LOLGOP is not Eclectablog. They’re two people. LOLGOP just posts on Eclectablog’s site.
One of my favorites too but I guess they work together and are not the same person.
LOLGOP is a contributor on eclectablog’s site.
LOLGOP is not Eclectablog. They’re different people. LOLGOP just blogs on the site.
More MSM coercion?
Robney on cable, Rubio on CSPAN 1, just when the President is about to speak.
Thus Jay Carney and Jack Lew need to call networks and ask why in the Hell, is the President either being premiers or have to wait???
You mean the Predident is waiting for Robberney to finish???!!!!!
Jovie please turn to CSPAN 3 – that’s where the President’s speech is being televised.
What would Jay Carney and Jack Lew calling the networks accomplish? The networks know what they are doing, they are acting as a firewall to block the President’s message.
OMG! that is not the case! PBO is scheduled to speak at 12:45 and will be aired in it’s entirity on CSPAN3. Mitt went on unexpectantly and he is also being aired. I actually had FOX on and they cut away from Mitt before he finished, then they went to PBO. Jay and Jack have better things to do, than to chase down conspiracy theories. Enough.
you’re a tough cookie, to actually be watching pox news! so glad you caught that moment, though, for all of us: robme’s giving a talk and they cut away to pbo! love it!
Mrs. Greenspan reports almost breathlessly that Willard did not use notes or a teleprompter. Who cares and what difference does it make?
She is an ass.
Did she read that off her teleprompter? It’s a sure sign of idiocy when someone thinks that using or not using a technological tool that’s been around for several decades is more important than the actual content of the speech.
No need for notes or teleprompter when you aren’t offering anyting of substance.
yup, he’s the best extemporaneous liar we’ve seen in quite a while!
Ask Mrs. Greenspan, who cares if Romney used notes or a teleprompter? Ask Mrs. Greenie if Mitt Romney told the truth?
Tamron said Willard changed the schedule of his speech so he could “pre-but” Obama’s speech. What???
Same lies, different time slot.
**** seriously………I’m going to tweet that………did she say at what time he was supposed to speak?
Actually, in this era of instant communication, it just might be better for PBO to go second.
Interesting observation: I’ve been away from mass communications for about a month and upon my return, I see Robme is still stalking President Obama; this guy obviously has never had an original thought. He’s the quintessential ‘droid.
Jessica Yellen….stuttering and stammering trying to pump bad news about the unemployment numbers as her head flops back and forth. This woman cannot keep her head up straight.
Being critical of the President- It’s almost like their life depended on it!
a very touching intro by Angela for POTUS… she nearly teared up.. and so did I.
Is Romney’s campaign stupid or what? Why on earth would you want to speak on the same day as President Obama. The stark contrast of knowledge and style is stunning.
Willard will not try speaking before PBO again if he is smart. The contrast by itself is devastating to Willard.
So Romney changed his schedule and flew down to OH so he could pre-but PBO’s speech? I can’t wait for Nov.6 when we defeat this supercilious, entitled, smug bastard.
He lied in his speech. The parts I could bear to watch. Said PBO hadn’t signed any trade agreements when PBO has signed three: South Korea, Panama, and Colombia. Delivered whoppers of lies. It was nuts.
Loving how the crowd is going nuts for PBO. “4 More Years!”
He has told that lie before….
The media turns a deaf ear to his lies.
Profile in Cowardice yet again and not a shred of imagination.
He has tweeked his speech, and I LIKE IT! He is explaining the Bush tax cuts effect, eetc….perfect, because it reminds EVERYONE!!
CNN cut off the President saying because we gaveled ten minutes we can only give the President ten minutes. Except it was more like 2!
Another reason to reduce their viewership.
CNN continues to make the worst possible decisions—–they’re dumb on steroids. People are turning away in disgust.
Can I use the “dumb on steroids” quote on twitter please?
Here is evidence that it’s the media and not messaging that makes it difficult for the President to get his message out.
MSNBC is carrying the entire speech.
as if the president of the united states is a candidate and nothing more. how about recognizing the country is still in a very difficult period, and the elected leader is speaking to the people? not the same as an upstart, pre-convention, self-declared-candidate stumping.
I love this..I will call OFA and let them know
Great speech -though!
This man is amazing and that presidential cold medicine is the bomb. He looked very sick in Philadelphia – it’s a miracle.
MSNBC is still showing the speech.
“I’m looking forward to the press following up” BAM!
“I’m looking forward to the press following up” gets the biggest applause so far. Everyone is aware of the sad state of our negligent news media.
That was beautiful!!! Glad PBO called out the press. Even more pleased with the audience’s response. People are waking up (as evidenced by falling viewership numbers). AWESOME speech by PBO. Brilliant in praising ideas of past republican presidents as way to highlight how radical the GOP has become.
I am telling you, if he frames the election like this speech, we got this.
This is terrific!
It’s really a masterful job of framing the economy and contrasting our choice, all of it VERIFIABLE.
Great speech. He has it all together. If anyone had any doubts about what PBO is going to go at the right, is wetting their pants for nothing.:)
You can tell POTUS's speech is winning because the media, GOP and EmoProgs are whining on Twitter. #FourMoreYears— PragmaticObotsUnite (@PragObots) June 14, 2012
No wonder they were afraid of this speech! It blows up all their talking points, all of them!
This is incredible!
Helloo Os!!! Got PBO live streaming this great getting up day and I’m thinking, what a man, what a man, what a mighty good man. I loved the part where he says he’s awaiting the MSM to follow up on his facts about Mitty’s plan. Then there was the part about, gaffes and such are what the media want to talk about, but he also said, this is what’s to be expected in a campaign.
My political take today is looking at the crowds for both Mitt and PBO, the real America looks like the crowd in PBO’s audience. The Mitt audience (which we still never get to see the wide angle view) looked like people straight from Hollywood casting of 1950ville, USA.
Please post your fundraiser Cookemom. I’m in a giving frame of mind after that speech!!!
Not a problem, thankyouverymuuuuch!!!! https://donate.barackobama.com/page/outreach/view/2012/cookemom
merci, mon amie
aww shucks daiseymay1, thank ever so….
It’s been a while, but he is bringing tears to my eyes.
This speech is amazing!
Sully is live blogging this speech, and he too is happy:
He has a tingle?
:-) I think we all have tears and tingles with this winning speech today. Our guy knocked it out of the park! :-)
This Obama speech is a substance filled thundering counter-punch 2 what feels like an increasingly petty @MittRomney speech.— Ed Schultz (@edshow) June 14, 2012
If you have a fundraiser thermometer please post it so that I can donate a little to our President.
Pretending to care about the deficit…oh baby!
DF, is he saying they are frauds? Lol! He is taking no prisoners!
That’s PRECISELY what he said!
yep, oh baby, baby! I want to hear Mitt’s response to this. Why Mitt thought he could go on before PBO and leave a mark, he was sadly mistaken. PBO dares voters and the media to make the honest comparison. BTW, were Mitt’s audience on Sleeprite? they seemed to only give polite response, but nothing heartfelt. Of course, it could be that I have special PBO speakers and anything he says speaks volumes, Mitt’s message kinda just comes out garbled.
HAHA! the scary voice in the ads….Go O!
THERE IT IS! Only thing that can break this stalemate is YOU
OH. MY. GOD. THIS IS AWESOME!!!
what…what? I missed that! I was composing a post, drat!
I love this speech. This is the speech to be repeated from now until November 2012.
Wowwee! Awesome! He is the best Lawyer, putting holes in all their arguments!
“This is what the scary person in the ads will say.” Smart forewarning.
An aggressive confident speech that is all but begging GOP to oppose him on these grounds. It's all forward-looking: thebea.st/Nmf6wd— Andrew Sullivan (@sullydish) June 14, 2012
Did you just hear our President? Oh my my my.
When he said THIS NOVEMBER it sent a chill down my spine.
Lawd, this man is good!
Snapped us right out of the fog of all that RW MSM noise!
That’s my President.
Oh MY GOODNESS…that was SOME SPEECH!!!
Well, he did it again. He knocked it out of the park, kicked some azz and took names. Love my President.
I can’t believe what Alter just said. What is his f%%%%%% problem?
To hell with what Alter said.
My sentiments, exactly. I turned off the television immediately.
What planet does he live on?!
President Obama is trying to reach the voters out there, not reach some angry two bit pundit name Jonathan Alter.
MSNBC just said it was too long and went off message. Johnathan Alter. What a crock.
That’s why when PBO said, “I leave you with this last thought…..” the crowd went, “Oh, no. don’t stop.”
Alter had some positive things to say as well.
Jonathan alter said the speech sucked worst ever, that is what he said!
These pundits all hate it!
If those highly paid,do nothings think this was a bad speech….that means it left a mark! I thought it KICKED ASS! And I think he’s only getting warmed up!
Jovie, I admit I didn’t hear everything Alter said but I heard him say it was a powerful speech, to keep pushing the “how” argument and that would be a winning message for PBO. What did Alter actually say?
I didn’t hear it either, but I wish when we get reports about what folks in the media said, that the words aren’t parsed to feed the frenzy. I know Alter and Halprin have real issues with PBO, but even when they have negative stuff to say, they usually say something, though lukewarm it may be that points out something he said or did that isn’t totally bad.
It’s not just me complaining about alter.
So, he must have says something to the effect.
What is your problem?
if you don’t know me by now, you’ll never know me. I’m just for being fair and not parse what’s said. Many of us don’t have access to hear the stuff you’re reporting on in real time. Many rely on what you say. If it’s been parsed or skewed, then it’s doing the same thing we accuse them of doing. Fair opinions can only be made when all the facts are presented. we know the MSM and pundits are less than stellar in their reporting, but what harm is it to tell us all of what is said?
Jovie is right. Don’t go on the attack. Alter said the speech sucked and was a failure.
Evidently, Alter also said it was a powerful speech. I’m just saying we don’t need to set our own hair on fire. This wasn’t an attack, it was trying to point out that EVERYTHING doesn’t have to be so negative on a positive blog site.
Read an interview by Halprin of Willard in the June 4th Time Mag, expected something a little bit interesting, informative after watching ‘Game Change’. Was a worthless waste of time, two pages of nothing excepting PBO bashing.
They hated it becuse he told the truth in detail and contrasted the difference in he and Robney. Alter is so bitter these days.
Alter is a manic depressive.
Fact that pundits hate it means that it was an extremely EFFECTIVE speech (just as they hate the Bain ads). Their bias is becoming so obvious, they seem to be desperate. In the real world, PBO gave one hell of a speech calling on the support of all sane voters who care about the 99% of our country the GOP/MSM has soldout to the 1%.
Why do we give a dam about what these pundits say? Let me correct myself, why do some gives a dam what Jonathan Alter and any other of those pundits say?
Since most Americans did not see the speech, many will rely on the opinions of pundits. This is an unfortunate reality. Many here are pointing out what Alter said not because we value his opinion, but because what he said was so out of touch with reality that it was SHOCKING to hear.
Most people don’t pay those pundits any attention. When those people in that audience go home and talk to their love ones their neighbors, their co-workers, and we do the same, that can silence those pundits.
I think we have given Alter enough attention.
@ThePlumLineGS Of course it won't. The pundits are perpetual children who think this is a game.— Liberal Librarian (@Lib_Librarian) June 14, 2012
My thought about Alter’s response is that they always think it is about THEM! What matters is THEIR response.
See this is what Mitt wants most of all… that song played for him when he leaves the stage. He’d also like everyone to bow and curtsy as he walks the rope line.
OT, but Rev. Al is asking where are the Dems who should be out there defending Eric Holder and I agree. The Dems are so busy keeping their own seats this election, that they are taking cover. But, logically, if you want to keep your seat, why do you think you’d get votes, if you can’t be relied upon to do the right thing?
Where are the Dems who should be out defending President Obama from the onslaught of lies?
Did you hear Alter say this was the least successful speech he ever heard PBO make? That is so over the top it is actually FUNNY. What a dunce. I must have watched a different speech. GREAT speech by PBO. Very enjoyable to listen to and very informative too. Got me feeling fired up.
 —– since when does Alter have any credibility?
Let him have it on twitter! He is bought, no question about him working for Robney!!
Excellent! No one better! And as I finish typing that I hear Jonathan Alter unbelievably say this is the worst speech, the most ineffective speech, he’s ever heard from this president. I am now suspicious—-who is paying who—-what else is going on—-to whom are your loyalties————because that assessment is senseless—–and flat out wrong. MSNBC/Tamron should hear from people for having those “analysts” ready to stomp. They looked smug in their trashing. They had zero credibility.
You can all tweet tampon and alter your thoughts!
That’s offensive and surely you can come up with something a tad bit more creative.
That is my spellcheck! Not my bad.
Jovie uses an i-phone. Hence, autocorrect! Jeez.
The people in the audience didn’t have a problem with the speech. We all know Alter has his problems. To hell with him. I thought the speech was great. So let Alter go listen to Mitt next time.
i left the room and didn’t hear Alter say this. good God.
c-span just said Romney crowd was 100.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahhahahahhahahhahhahahahahhahahahahahhahahahahhahahhahahhahahhahahhaha!!!!!!
Lisa, i just tried to do your laugh. I would say I came very close (lol).
teeeheeeteeeeheee snicker snicker chuckle teeeeeheeeeeteeeeeheeeee snicker snicker chuckle hick hick teeeeeheeeee!!!!!!!Toooo funnnny!!
No wonder we never see the wide angled shots of his audience, only the tight close up of Willard’s Grecian Formula 44 do. Gotta love it!
It generally always is. I go on google and lookup his speeches to get the reports on his crowd size. The only time the media will talk about his crowd (or show a wide angle view) is if he happens to get a decent size crowd like he did on Memorial Day. Other than that its crickets. But let there be 10 empty seats at an Obama rally and he is DOOMED!!!
We should tweet/FB Mitt’s crowd size after every speech. We could trend #HowManyMitt or #Only____GiveAShitAboutMitt
I always wonder why the msm never mentions the crowd size at Romney,s speeches. They are too embarrassed for their guy. Yet when the POTUS speaks, we hear incessantly about the 3 empty seats in the rafters.
WOW…This speech reminds me of Summer 2008…let’s keep moving FORWARD!
Fricking awesome speech!!!!! Love the unintended knocks on Willards rep as job creator!!!! —–so did the crowd!!! Almost wet my pants!
Twitter world go give it to Alter! What a Dickhead!
Some billionaire in Texas has just been sentenced to 110 years in prison for committing the biggest ponzi scheme in American history. Any $10,000.00 bets he is a pub? I think the last name is Allen.
And he is connected to Romney!
Maybe his buddy Robme can pull some strings or make sure the money is in a blind trust. oh wait they seized all of his bank acounts. No word on the ones overseas. Mitt will take care of those.
oooohhh!! i saw the headline, and thought how tidily the image of this ‘businessman’ in handcuffs, being marched off to a 110 year prison term, underscores the essential dishonesty of the mentality robme applauds. and he’s actually connected to robme! be still my heart!
I was sort of following Mark Knoller’s tweets during the speech (just for some humor) and saw two things of note (sorry, I don’t know how to copy tweets in here like you all do):
- Difference between Obama “official” and “campaign” speech: campaign slogan on the lectern: “Forward.” So all those pundits who complain about it can just check there.
- Pres Obama wearing suit and tie. Romney doffed his jacket and spoke in shirt and tie with rolled up sleeves.
I think it served to show PBO as presidential and more serious. Romney with his sleeves rolled up – PUH-LEEZ!
Wait, what? Was Marky Mark being snarky on PBO’s side?? I await Snark Knoller’s take.
wonder if Knoller heard a rumor that if Rmoney wins, anal sphincters like him will get all the choice pickings in terms of food and women?
At the end of @BarackObama's speech in #OH one is left wondering; @MittRomney WHO??!!??— (@utaustinliberal) June 14, 2012
Got to listen and watch for a change! All I can say again, is WOW!!! He said everything I’ve been hoping for and more, and did it with zest! I don’t ever want anyone else to be president!!!
LOL! What will you and I do in 2017?

Thank you. :)
what about that Guy Jonathan Alter?
Martin is now pointing out Willard’s lies in his speech.
Jovie, who gives a dam about that guy Alter? Enough with what Jonathan Alter said.
Exactly. Stay focused people. Too many talking about Alter and not POTUS. I fell for it too.
Now go up thread and say that to the other ten people who also said that about alter.
Enough with the picking on Jovie.
It’s pathetic… Truly!
Jovie, here’s my take on Alter. It’s very similar to what Donna said below. I think Alter has a personal beef with our President. Maybe he felt that PBO didn’t acknowledge him enough after he wrote the book, but whatever it is, he’s been very nasty recently and it’s of a personal nature. His criticism of the President’s speech made him seem jealous and petty, and I think a lot of otherwise reasonable folks probably lost respect for Alter with that “analysis” which in my opinion was pure drivel. There’s been a tremendous amount of pushback on his ‘analysis” on Twitter.
Jovie, I don’t care who or how many before talked about Alter. I am sick of worrying about him, or concern about what he said. It is no shock that Alter would say something like what he said, you know, I know and everyone else know that he don’t like President Obama, so enough of that piece of crap. It is pathetic, really!!!!!
By the way, I am emailing Alter to let him know that I thought it was a great speech by the President, and so did the family who watched it with me.
Hey, y’all… Quick drop by at lunchtime…. Good to see you!
MSNBC’s most influential show is run by a staunch conservative—-Joe S.—–not because of size of audience but because of who watches——in tandem with GOPolitico the program sets the political message of the day. With few exceptions, the Dems invited on are the type who are more concerned that Repubs like them than aggressively pushing back or advocating any Dem thinking.
Excellent analysis of Morning Joe.
I’ve always thought that he gets the first Pub memo for the day’s talking points. During the rest of the day, we hear those words echoed throughout Pubdom.
@JonathanAlter Who's out of touch Alter? You're like a movie critic who wants depressing French films & has no idea what people want to see.— (@FlowerInFaith) June 14, 2012
Be careful, we have several Jonathan alter fans on this blog. I got pushback for mentioning his remarks about the Presidents speech.
I’m a big girl. I can take it. Hey, I pushed back because what I heard at the beginning of Alter’s comments was pretty good. And then he did a 180.
Alter is all over the place, sometimes in the same God damned sentence. I’m tired of pundits who have ceased paying any attention to actual Americans and get their perspective from their rarified offices and the revolving cluster-fuck and the spinning polls.
I actually respect Alter in many ways. But I do not respect the majority of what he said today, just because he’s heard it all before. There are literally millions of Americans who don’t know shit and this speech, when all is said and done, made SENSE.
In my youth I worked at a small restaurant that Roger Ebert used to frequent (he had a crush on one of the waitresses. Alas, not me). I consider myself an artistic snob and I’m proud of it, and I’m not saying some stupid fluff movie should get a rave rating. But he was so out of touch with how and why people spent their hard-earned dollars at the movie theater. He was ‘bored’ with certain things — well yeah, you jackass. You see 20 movies/week and most people plan how to see even one.
It’s that mindset that Alter was coming from today. It’s not about YOU, Alter. It’s about honing a message and this speech was a serious step in that direction. Alter should know that.
And God, for once — just once — I want to see a God damned “Democratic” pundit just cheer for this President. See the good, see it through the eyes of people who don’t know shit about how to vote and do some fucking good. Instead of entertaining yourself and Howard Fineman. Use your God damned brain.
CLAP! CLAP! CLAP!
Epic and well justified rant. Alter is getting massive pushback on twitter. He’s now whining.
Yes he has and is! People are telling him sound bytes are NOT what we need. The President’s speech was awesome. Too bad Alter doesn’t have enough sense to use his platform to inform people about the necessity of understanding complex sentences. I pushed back and will continue. These pundits are so full of themselves. They are arrogant and I have yet to read or hear any one of them say the possibility exist that they may have made a mistake.
For Alter to whine that this speech didn’t have a ‘cogent message’ — seriously? what speech did he hear because this was one of the finest common sense speeches I’ve heard in ages.
Alter is ALWAYS WHINING..HE’S A WHINGER..THAT’S his MO.
I just called OFA in Chicago and told them that i was mesmerized by this speech and thought that he hit this out of the park. I told tham that I liked all his connecting the dots…and thought that he should take the narrative from the RW that “govt IS the problem” away….WE ARE THE GOVT! She took my name and was grateful for the call…she said they were all watching this speech and LOVED it.
I to was memsmerized. I could not take my eyes off the tv while he was speaking. My legs were tingling. :)
Agreed! Hopefully he derives His stump speech from this…
Great idea DF! They love getting positive re-inforcement.
They were very happy I called:)
What? “They” all look the same??
this is hilarious. do not miss it!
Just for the record.
I don’t give a damn what Jonathan Alter thinks of the Presidents speech.
From everything you all have been posting on this site for the last few months about Jonathan Alter it has been a clear indication to me that he has grown progressively negative on this President and his administration for whatever reason. So MSNBC brings him on to give commentary after a major speech and he goes negative. Absolutely no surprise at all. It’s a setup and its intentional IMO. They bring on the person that they are confident will go negative to set a negative narrative. The moment his face is seen on that screen you gotta know why he is there. It’s a game to these cable tv shows. It’s all a game.
He is not worth my time!
It still is disturbing that these kind of choices are being made. Where is the honesty, the objectivity, the integrity? If our entire news media is just a farce, setting up beforehand this kind of negative response, purposely creating a false image——what is going on?—–who are we?
You see I think what I am reading in your comment is that you still have faith in the legitimacy of our media. They lost me 3 years ago when the nightly news started showing those RW townhalls against ACA. I simply believe now that It’s all propaganda from them. With everything they do there is an agenda. They had that speech ahead of time so they knew the President was going to take some shots at the media. So voila they bring on someone who declares the speech a failure.
I’m sorry but that mess that is masquerading as real news on cable tv is pathetic IMO.
Last month the President gives a major speech and rally in Ohio and the narrative becomes that there were empty seats. So instead of talking about the speech we are talking about seats.
Today, they want us to spend our time defending this speech against their commentary about why the speech “didn’t work” instead of us celebrating the merits of the speech. I’ve seen this game played out too many times before and I just refuse to play their game.
Donna, you came to the same conclusion as I did about the media, which is why I simply never watch. Those who heard the speech understood what the president said and rejoiced in it. Those who didn’t will get a chance to hear it again as the weeks go on. Only a miniscule number of people will listen to pundits and those are most likely not Obama voters to begin with. The president understands this. He’ll continue to talk to local reporters and and to real people. His speeches will be heard and his point will be made.
Donna you are right on the money (no pun intended). Alter is mad at the President and MSNBainCapital sees him as the perfect person to give analysis because they know it will be negative. It’s all very predictable.
We also should never talk about mark knoller, as well!
Just saying, he eats up our time too!
LOL! Actually I did a whole lotta talking about Jonathan Alter on Twitter. Did you see my response to your comment upthread?
Yes! It was classic.
And we carry his message for him each time we repeat it.
@markknoller And where did Romney go after his speech? To his favorite banker's penthouse?— (@aspirational12) June 14, 2012
3.05 pm. My bottom line? A home run. Simply constructed, carefully reframed, aggressive while positive: the Obamaites have been listening to critics and are responding. If this is his message, and if he is able to keep articulating it this clearly, he will win. And in my view, the experience of the last thorty years is that he should win. If I have to choose between a governing philosophy espoused by Bill Clinton or one espoused by George W. Bush, it’s a no-brainer. And I can’t stand Bill Clinton.
PLEASE post video as soon as you can, Chips
yes, thanks so much!
here’s Willard’s speech in a nutshell:
“I gave Romney a fair listen today and I gotta tell you, it was a grave mistake for him to play the dueling speeches game. First, Romney’s optics were horrible!! He looked like he was in some dude’s barn with about 60 of his neighbors chewing and spitting snuff.
Also, he came off the cuff with a rambling speech and these are the highlights:
1. Drill, drill, drill
2. Get rid of Obamacare but keep Romneycare in Massachusetts.
3. Limit the size of government.
4. Crack down on um China…um, somehow.
5. Obama is bad, America is great.
6. A woman went out of business because Obama said something about Vegas.
7. And um, Rubio said something positive about something.
8. A dude opened a new factory and he’s rich now.
9. And he went to San Diego on Memorial Day and met some great Americans.
10. But couldn’t hold the torch as high.
11. He knows how to lead cause he’s um, been in the private sector
And, then, in walks Obama to thousands of screaming fans and every single word Romney said was dashed against the stone.
Mitt made a fool of himself today.”
I guess Mitt missed 2008 when McCain learned never to give a speech immediately before or after PBO.
The man is devoid of imagination. It’s stunning. He follows PBO like a deranged groupie and thinks he’s going to gain something. Amazing.
His comment after the speech: “Long on words, short on action.” Like the loon who primaried Dick Lugar in IN: ‘compromise’ is Democrats doing what we say whether we’re in the majority or the minority.
“deranged groupie” LOL :-D
Get off Jovie’s ass people! He’s right. Jonathan Alter was being a dick about Pres. Obama’s speech. A really big jerk. So stop spewing nonsense at Jovie. Jeez!
It gets tiresome, it’s like they look for my name and then waam!
Also, just fir the record, if I did not know any better, I would swear I was being bullied, these past few years on these blogs.
Only think that keeps me coming back is some people, like you, are Cool, and my Love for POTUS!
I’m on your side, my friend.
Jovie, you are appreciated. Most of the time you bring stuff that we would otherwise have missed! Never mind the small disagreements here and there, after all we are family and family sometimes do squibble among themselves but the love is never in doubt!
Try to understand, I don’t mean to get on Jovie case or anyone elses, but the fact that Jonathan Alter didn’t like President Obama speech, shocks no one. We know the man doesn’t like President Obama. And I just say enough of Alter, more talk of the President speech. Enough!!!!!!!!!!
ENOUGH of you trying to dictate who and what is discussed on this site. You are being rude.
Pres. Obama: Mr.Romney is qualified to deliver the failed plans of the last decade. He is! #OH— (@utaustinliberal) June 14, 2012
@JonathanAlter deems Pres. Obama's speech a failure. I laugh as I finally realize what a petty cretin Alter is. @MSNBC— (@utaustinliberal) June 14, 2012
Mitt Romney is the central casting President… from the 1950s. Barack Obama is the President for this time, this place.— Liberal Librarian (@Lib_Librarian) June 14, 2012
Yeah. Romney looks like he belongs in a Douglas Sirk movie.
For anyone who missed this FANTASTIC speech. Here ya go!
Thanks Donna; I missed it earlier; however, I have been reading the comments: why is there fighting and picking going on when the president has seemingly given the speech that so many of you wanted him to give? For over a month there has been needless drama every week. i usually stay out of it because i know that the silliness will soon blow over, but really guys, is this the best way to spend your energy? Sorry if anyone gets upset, but remember what we are here for. Think of the many who come here to lurk; what are they being shown?
i loved every minute of it! i was jumping up and clapping, and my husband was in tears. very emotional speech, and full of fire and wisdom.
I see Reuters summary of Obama’s speech was ‘Obama admits to gaffe with “fine” comment’. I cease to be amazed.
Yeah..a small line right at the beginning of a 54-minute speech. Sure…
Did he admit to that though or say he spoke inartfully?
I thought that he was kind of poking fun at the fact anyone thought that was a big deal….
Darn I missed it! Anyway I can see the whole thing?
@jonathanalter Then don't act like a tantrum throwing child when your "expertise" is revealed as just empty rhetoric.— (@utaustinliberal) June 14, 2012
@jonathanalter No, you're just being called out for not actually paying attention to the speech. Your ego must have gotten in the way.— (@utaustinliberal) June 14, 2012
Thanks for the necessary push-back!
Suing? Who’s suing who????!
And he just proved our point…they want a BUMPER STICKER! Forget the content..our brain cells can only deal with 3 words at a time!!
Is he whining ?
Someone needs to Tweet and ask him: Do you want a little cheese with that whine?”
It’s all a game…
Boehner's press secretary started the "POTUS speech is too long" talking point & the media ran with it: twitter.com/Brendan_Buck/s… #p2 #TFY— PragmaticObotsUnite (@PragObots) June 14, 2012
AHA! That was the Karl Rove memo and apparently was started BEFORE Pres Obama even gave the speech…the media gets all the RNC memos and talking points.
That is my point. Bur, when he dies 4 events per day, the Pundits will become even mire irrelevant!
Right now they are tripping over themselves. But nary a peep from any of them including Alter about Willard’s half-assed 100-person lie-fest.
By the time the election heats up, they won’t have the energy, stamina, mental resilience to keep up with him.
When I say “him” I mean President Obama.
This from the same people that need a 1 page bill. Anything bigger is “too hard” LOL
Well for a Speaker who works one week with no agenda and then takes two weeks off, I’m sure it was way more than his pea brain could follow.
This is just like the jackals being obsessed with “PROCESS” nonsense instead of focusing on “POLICY and SUBSTANCE”. As I recall, the previous Republican Party talking point was that President Obama HAD NO PLAN. Now they complain that his speech outlining his plan is too long.
Boner and Alter think PObama’s speech was too long and the corporatemedia runs with it. It says everything about them and nothing about PBO’s speech.
Well done UT! I think exposing their bs is the way to go with these biased media people.
A little OT, but wow! It’s not The Onion.
“NRA Sells ‘Stand Your Ground’ Insurance
After all, who wants to shoot a black kid and then deal with prohibitively expensive legal stickiness? Like a good neighbor, the NRA is there… with “stand your ground” insurance in case you kill someone and are arrested for it.”
More here: http://bobcesca.com/blog-archives/2012/06/nra-sells-stand-your-ground-insurance.html
I wonder if we can find out who the underwriter company is .
More…I don’t want to go to NRA website :)
Found them. Very strange, when you google & get the company, one of links takes you to NRA. Very interconnected. So here’s the text I found on their web, the 2nd para is where it led to NRA:
“Lockton Affinity is an affiliate of Lockton Companies, Inc., the largest independently owned commercial insurance broker in the U.S., and 10th largest firm of its type in the world. Lockton Affinity is a full-service group program administrator for associations, franchises and affinity groups of all types and sizes.”
“Our Self-Defense Insurance protects National Rifle Association members who need extra protection not found in most homeowners’ policies.” [I wonder why?! Duh!]
I will give Color of Change this information…..maybe they can do something.
So many bitten by the ‘ Green Eyed Monster’, jealous, jealous, jealous, I tell you. No way any of them can come close to The Greatest President since Abe Lincoln, so intelligent, analytical, about so many things. He has to have an immense drive to learn and then put it to use, not all with brains can do that. Also, so even tempered, wonderful sense of humor, quick witted, beautiful smile, and on top of that Great Husband and Father.
No wonder so many are jealous…………
@jonathanalter Stop insulting our maturity and intelligence. Then we'll take your "analysis" or "criticisms" seriously. Until then, *CLICK."— (@aspirational12) June 14, 2012
Wonder what about that SHARP message he didn’t get? Maybe he needs a comparison. Tell him to go cover Romney instead for his “sharp, clear, lies”
Bravo aspirational12. Clear Alter want alittle attention.
Don’t worry ,I bet anyone 10,000 half-cents that Jonathan Alter will be on Morning Joke tomorrow just like he wanted.
if he didn’t hear any memorable lines, then he wasn’t listening. but then, his puppeteers wouldn’t want him to actually listen, would they?
From Alter’s history of WHINING ABOUT PBO..no one Excepts any truths coming from him. OF COURSE HE’S NOT “WALKING TFBACK”.
When Bush took office we had peace, prosperity, and budget surpluses. When he left office, we were involved in two wars, the economy was losing 700,000 jobs per month, and deficits were $1 trillion per year. Those are the facts. Its a shame some people only see color and not facts. Obama 2012 let welcome peace, prosperity, and budget surpluses back to the USA. vote Obama and move this country FORWARD.
summed it all up in a nutshell. What else is there to think about?
This is the absolute truth, dun, and the media know it. Their hatred of President Obama has blinded to the truth. Personally, I lost faith in the media 10 years ago when they cheered for the invasion of Iraq based on lies.
Today at 5pm Eastern, President Obama pays a visit to 1 World Trade Center in NYC for an update on its progress.
There will be a livestream at CNN and probably CBS.
Thanks for the reminder meta!
The Tongue Is Quicker Than the Eye
By Mark Kleiman
This is part of a pattern. Mitt Romney is a chronic, pathological, utterly shameless, pants-on-fire (thirteen times so far), four-Pinocchios liar.
I’m not so sure. It’s possible that the press will start to report Romney’s lies as lies. That’s unconventional, but he’s asking for it.
Or perhaps some super-PAC will come along and run some spots on Romney’s mendacity. I doubt even low-information swing voters really like being lied to.
I thought that was one of the 10 Commandments. Those evangelicals wouldn’t dare be hypocrites, would they?
So A. Huffington started the day with her Repub. talking point (Obama can no longer blame Bush for the economy) and Alter took his talking point from Boehner’s press secretary (POTUS speech is too long). Wow! Color me surprised!
The MSM/GOP are a coordinated team. Those blaming PBO’s “messaging” or arguing that “if only PBO would say this or use this tactic” the MSM would carry his message, are failing to acknowledge this reality. The MSM is making a conscious decision NOT to carry PBO’s message because doing so would hurt the GOP/Mitt.
This is exactly how I feel and it is the truth. thanks for saying, EricFive
Exactly, EricFive! This is why I am always puzzled by some of our friends here who fault the President and his campaign for supposedly failing in the so called “messaging.” Besides “MSM … making a conscious decision NOT to carry PBO’s message…,” as soon as some of his message gets through they start distorting or denigrating it; thus sowing confusion for people who depend on them to make their decisions.
Sorry HuffPost but the majority of Americans disagree. “Poll: 68 percent of Americans still blame Bush for economic woes … http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/news/regions/americas/united-states/120614/poll-americans-still-blame-bush-economy
It’s refreshing to see that with a little over 140 days left until election day, HuffPost and Jonathan Alter are having no effect on actual voters.
OWS NEEDS TO OCCUPY THE DAMN US MEDIA.
President Obama is expected to raise at least $4.5 million in his New York City swing Thursday evening.
Obama will attend a fundraising reception at the home of actress Sarah Jessica Parker with approximately 50 guests. Tickets for that event cost $40,000 per person, according to a campaign official.
After, Obama will attend a fundraising dinner with 250 guests at the Plaza Hotel where singer Mariah Carey will perform. Tickets for that event cost $10,000 per person, per the campaign.
It’s Obama’s second trip to New York City in as many weeks — last week, he and former President Bill Clinton made three fundraising appearances together in the Big Apple.
Must read on Mitt’s intentions for healthcare.
First off, when Romney talks about protecting insurance coverage for people with pre-existing conditions, he’s talking about those with “continuing coverage”—i.e., those who quit jobs with employer-based health insurance. But they are already “protected” under current law, if you consider the “right” to buy crappy, overpriced HIPAA policies, or to temporarily continue old policies via COBRA (which involves paying employer as well as employee premiums).
Challenged with these facts, Team Romney once again changes the subject from federal guarantees to the alleged ability of states to provide “high-risk pools” (again, available under existing law, and providing crappy, expensive coverage) and/or to use the new flexibility Mitt and Paul Ryan want to give them to cover whoever they want under a Medicaid block grant. I’m just sure they will choose to focus on that problem even as Mitt and Ryan slash federal funding for Medicaid, threatening the eligibility of millions of poor and disabled folks who are Medicaid’s core responsibility.
But so far critics of Romney’s health care plans haven’t focused much on another disaster he would create for the un- and under-insured: his support for interstate insurance sales, which would almost certainly destroy existing state regulation of insurers, who would be able to stampede to whatever state offered them the opportunity to deny coverage and make premiums strictly dependent on health conditions.
Side by side comparison of BOTH speeches today.
Thank you, df. First comment was interesting..
“Well, Obama’s speech was terrific, the pundit hacks notwithstanding. I haven’t heard Mitt’s yet, but for Obama, the gloves were off, he got the audience fired up, and he linked the obstruction GOP in Congress to political motivations with this great line, “Romney and his allies in Congress….”
I thought it was great, specific and very smart in outlining the two futures we can choose.”
The second comment was something about willard saying “Talk is Cheap” and “Willard Should Know”..
I remember during the 2008 campaign one of the volunteers owned a barber shop. He registered more new voters there then everyone in our group. He was an older black gentleman and he said the number of young black men who were not registered was incredible. He also ran a mentoring program for young black fathers. He was a wonderful man. I am sorry we lost touch. I’ll have to look him up and get reacquainted.
Thanks POTUS for the reminder about the importance of barber shops.
Very good! Just saw the Presidents ad in tv about Robney as Governor.
This was NBC and during the US open.
The other day, I saw his ad on the Celtics game, and a lot of times, I watch the Red Sox on MLB channel and His add cone on there.
This is a Sporting crowd targeting, I just know it.
Well done OFA.
More on Mitt’s LACK OF HEALTHCARE
[A statement from the Romney campaign] confirms that under a Romney presidency, there would be no federal prohibition barring health insurers from discriminating against pre-existing conditions. Instead, his administration would push reforms that help eat away at the problem.
Those “reforms” — including turning responsibilities to states — have been largely ineffective.
An ABC report added that Romney’s policy “does not immediately address people who have never had private health insurance, or who have had insurance but spent some time without, often because of financial circumstances and unemployment.”
Given the popularity of these consumer protections — as many as 85% of Americans support coverage for those with pre-existing conditions — Romney is placing himself on the wrong side of the American mainstream.
Okay, so we know now what we have come to know over time.
The media is corrupt …..so we become the media, ergo ‘ WE DA MEDIA’ memes.
The pundits are bought and sold …so we tackle their negativism with pushback on twitter, emails etc
The Democrats do not appear to be as supportive as they ought….so we appeal to them to become the surrogates they should be
Therefore,we too have choices. No more bitching, whining -oh the media,oh the media.,oh this pundit, that pundit. They are schizoid!
As soon as negativism arises, we change to facts, truthtelling and most importantly change the narrative back to positive. In other words we
change the tone and meaning to where it should be.
P.S UT, bless her, is one of the best surrogate warriors around. Thanks, me lovely. Forward!

Thanks meta – those construction workers are waiting for their President to arrive. :)
Perfect Pushback to Jonathan Alter’s garbage.
@jonathanalter What we are lacking Jonathan is not a President that doesn't talk in soundbites but a media that can't report without them.— Pnthrgrlgail (@Mama4Obama1) June 14, 2012
THIS x 1000000000+
Brilliant! Thx hopefruit! Alter just wants his vapid face out in front of the cameras. Would m$m want him on if he spoke in facts??
Brilliant! You guys are doing a wonderful job.
Character doesn’t matter now because Willard is the nominee, and he HAS no character!
Cory wants us to know that he’s still in the President’s good books.
Heading into NYC for a fundraiser I'm co-hosting for the President. Grateful to all those who have helped with the event.— Cory Booker (@CoryBooker) June 14, 2012
@CoryBooker If you see a news camera nearby, please resist the urge to trash the president or the campaign. Thanks.— TrumpDog (@TrumpDog1) June 14, 2012
The guy that ran against Ron Barber won’t seek re election in the fall. Amen
What happen to the day when the media reported the news and didn’t feel the need to give us their two bit opinion?
We didn’t have the two bit pundits analysis speeches like it was a football game.
I think the Obama campaign will give Jonathan Alter all the attention he deserve……..NONE !!!!!!!!!!!

Eric Schmidt, executive chairman of Google Inc., released the following statement today on President Obama’s speech: “America needs foremost investment in our people through education and in our infrastructure we depend on. Obviously Math skills/memory lacking……. Jackass Alter<<<<<<<Eric Schmidt
Our President and FLOTUS should be arriving at NYC’s Ground Zero shortly :) The construction workers are waiting patiently.
Someone please help me here.
Don’t pay attention to Jonathan Alter. In 2008, these same folks didn’t think pres Obama did well, but CBS poll and people who watched liked the performances of then senator Obama.
Please the picture of president Obama, on the front page, is it real? It’s like pres Obama is suspended in air. The president was lifted up by 6 inches or more.
Please donate to my fundraising page: https://donate.barackobama.com/page/outreach/view/2012/IfNotNow
