    And, executive function ….

Reposted from the thread I was talking to myself on :) PLEASE READ AND GIVE FEEDBACK!!

OK. Everyone need to bear with me here. I got this idea for this while reading LL’s piece at TPV (special thanks, LL)….as so many of us are aware, on Jan 20, 2009, members of the Republican party sought to purposefully undermine not just the President, but the entire country for their own greed and love of power. No love of country. No care for struggling Americans that had been ruined by the policies of these very people and the Bush Administration…and the same policies that Romney would have us DO ALL OVER AGAIN. We need to get America to see this. Millions of people need to see this and share it with their families, friends and neighbors. The President can’t say this, but WE can.

These same men, think that they should be entitled to still serve, collect a pension and benefits for LIFE, paid for by US, the taxpayers, after they plotted to destroy this President and the economy of the US.That’s insane.I don’t want to reward this behavior, I want to get rid of it before it becomes just part and parcel of how things in Washington work. It’s bad enough that the SC has seen fit to strip us of our democracy with Citizens United, enabling wealthy people to buy votes and favors, leaving most of America to deal with this reckless and UNAmerican behavior.

My thought is this: In addition to going what we are to spread this message, I think that we need a well spoken volunteer to craft a petition to Color of Change, calling for the public apology, resignations and stripping of benefits for all the elected representatives that participated in this treasonous, seditious act upon this country.Color of Change has become a force to be reckoned with. A force for justice and fairness….and they have a wide swath of people to send this message to.

What do you think? Someone with a great mastery of words could write the petition. Bob, LL, Tally…so many to choose from here! I think we can do this….as I made my bed this morning…i thought of these traitors thinking they a) would never get caught b) never cause outrage c) would be able to collect a pension and benefits for life…after plotting this on America. It made my blood boil!

What does everyone say to this??? Suggestions???

It’s a fine suggestion, df. And, you have essentially already written it!! You do quite well with words, so go for it! And, let us know and we will support you and them. We can all Tweet your comment to them, as a way to let them know we are supportive. Let us know if you’d like that to happen.

One thing I DON’T want to do, would be to endanger PBO in any way…or undermine anything that he does. I don’t think that doing this falls into that category, but I want to make sure that I’m not missing something.

            Any thoughts?

One possible negative outcome MIGHT be it becomes a distraction with people focused on Color of Change. The media might begin to pick Change apart more than they already have. They could essentially do an ACORN to the organization.

That’s all he has – he’s running against PBO not “for” anything. Methinks people all around the country are finally starting to talk about that.

        • June 14, 2012 at 2:12 pm

Someone on an earlier thread said Romney’s run for President is a number on his bucket list. That is it in a nutshell. He is running because he has always wanted to be President and he has the money to buy the election. It is not because he wants to help this country.

    More MSM coercion?
Robney on cable, Rubio on CSPAN 1, just when the President is about to speak.

What would Jay Carney and Jack Lew calling the networks accomplish? The networks know what they are doing, they are acting as a firewall to block the President’s message.

    • June 14, 2012 at 2:40 pm

OMG! that is not the case! PBO is scheduled to speak at 12:45 and will be aired in it’s entirity on CSPAN3. Mitt went on unexpectantly and he is also being aired. I actually had FOX on and they cut away from Mitt before he finished, then they went to PBO. Jay and Jack have better things to do, than to chase down conspiracy theories. Enough.

Helloo Os!!! Got PBO live streaming this great getting up day and I’m thinking, what a man, what a man, what a mighty good man. I loved the part where he says he’s awaiting the MSM to follow up on his facts about Mitty’s plan. Then there was the part about, gaffes and such are what the media want to talk about, but he also said, this is what’s to be expected in a campaign.

My political take today is looking at the crowds for both Mitt and PBO, the real America looks like the crowd in PBO’s audience. The Mitt audience (which we still never get to see the wide angle view) looked like people straight from Hollywood casting of 1950ville, USA.

yep, oh baby, baby! I want to hear Mitt’s response to this. Why Mitt thought he could go on before PBO and leave a mark, he was sadly mistaken. PBO dares voters and the media to make the honest comparison. BTW, were Mitt’s audience on Sleeprite? they seemed to only give polite response, but nothing heartfelt. Of course, it could be that I have special PBO speakers and anything he says speaks volumes, Mitt’s message kinda just comes out garbled.

Jovie, I admit I didn’t hear everything Alter said but I heard him say it was a powerful speech, to keep pushing the “how” argument and that would be a winning message for PBO. What did Alter actually say?

      • June 14, 2012 at 3:09 pm

I didn’t hear it either, but I wish when we get reports about what folks in the media said, that the words aren’t parsed to feed the frenzy. I know Alter and Halprin have real issues with PBO, but even when they have negative stuff to say, they usually say something, though lukewarm it may be that points out something he said or did that isn’t totally bad.

        • June 14, 2012 at 3:21 pm

It’s not just me complaining about alter.
So, he must have says something to the effect.
          What is your problem?

          • June 14, 2012 at 3:26 pm

if you don’t know me by now, you’ll never know me. I’m just for being fair and not parse what’s said. Many of us don’t have access to hear the stuff you’re reporting on in real time. Many rely on what you say. If it’s been parsed or skewed, then it’s doing the same thing we accuse them of doing. Fair opinions can only be made when all the facts are presented. we know the MSM and pundits are less than stellar in their reporting, but what harm is it to tell us all of what is said?

            • 149 utaustinliberal

Jovie is right. Don’t go on the attack. Alter said the speech sucked and was a failure.

              • June 14, 2012 at 4:21 pm

Evidently, Alter also said it was a powerful speech. I’m just saying we don’t need to set our own hair on fire. This wasn’t an attack, it was trying to point out that EVERYTHING doesn’t have to be so negative on a positive blog site.

Fact that pundits hate it means that it was an extremely EFFECTIVE speech (just as they hate the Bain ads). Their bias is becoming so obvious, they seem to be desperate. In the real world, PBO gave one hell of a speech calling on the support of all sane voters who care about the 99% of our country the GOP/MSM has soldout to the 1%.

    • 155 anniebella
      June 14, 2012 at 3:13 pm

        June 14, 2012 at 3:20 pm

Since most Americans did not see the speech, many will rely on the opinions of pundits. This is an unfortunate reality. Many here are pointing out what Alter said not because we value his opinion, but because what he said was so out of touch with reality that it was SHOCKING to hear.

        • 158 anniebella
          June 14, 2012 at 4:28 pm

Most people don’t pay those pundits any attention. When those people in that audience go home and talk to their love ones their neighbors, their co-workers, and we do the same, that can silence those pundits.

See this is what Mitt wants most of all… that song played for him when he leaves the stage. He’d also like everyone to bow and curtsy as he walks the rope line.

OT, but Rev. Al is asking where are the Dems who should be out there defending Eric Holder and I agree. The Dems are so busy keeping their own seats this election, that they are taking cover. But, logically, if you want to keep your seat, why do you think you’d get votes, if you can’t be relied upon to do the right thing?

Did you hear Alter say this was the least successful speech he ever heard PBO make? That is so over the top it is actually FUNNY. What a dunce. I must have watched a different speech. GREAT speech by PBO. Very enjoyable to listen to and very informative too. Got me feeling fired up.

  52. June 14, 2012 at 3:00 pm

Excellent! No one better! And as I finish typing that I hear Jonathan Alter unbelievably say this is the worst speech, the most ineffective speech, he’s ever heard from this president. I am now suspicious—-who is paying who—-what else is going on—-to whom are your loyalties————because that assessment is senseless—–and flat out wrong. MSNBC/Tamron should hear from people for having those “analysts” ready to stomp. They looked smug in their trashing. They had zero credibility.

It generally always is. I go on google and lookup his speeches to get the reports on his crowd size. The only time the media will talk about his crowd (or show a wide angle view) is if he happens to get a decent size crowd like he did on Memorial Day. Other than that its crickets. But let there be 10 empty seats at an Obama rally and he is DOOMED!!!

      • June 14, 2012 at 3:34 pm

I was sort of following Mark Knoller’s tweets during the speech (just for some humor) and saw two things of note (sorry, I don’t know how to copy tweets in here like you all do):
    - Difference between Obama “official” and “campaign” speech: campaign slogan on the lectern: “Forward.” So all those pundits who complain about it can just check there.
    - Pres Obama wearing suit and tie. Romney doffed his jacket and spoke in shirt and tie with rolled up sleeves.
I think it served to show PBO as presidential and more serious. Romney with his sleeves rolled up – PUH-LEEZ!

          June 14, 2012 at 3:37 pm

Jovie, here’s my take on Alter. It’s very similar to what Donna said below. I think Alter has a personal beef with our President. Maybe he felt that PBO didn’t acknowledge him enough after he wrote the book, but whatever it is, he’s been very nasty recently and it’s of a personal nature. His criticism of the President’s speech made him seem jealous and petty, and I think a lot of otherwise reasonable folks probably lost respect for Alter with that “analysis” which in my opinion was pure drivel. There’s been a tremendous amount of pushback on his ‘analysis” on Twitter.

MSNBC’s most influential show is run by a staunch conservative—-Joe S.—–not because of size of audience but because of who watches——in tandem with GOPolitico the program sets the political message of the day. With few exceptions, the Dems invited on are the type who are more concerned that Repubs like them than aggressively pushing back or advocating any Dem thinking.

      • 227 57andfemale
        June 14, 2012 at 3:50 pm

I’m a big girl. I can take it. Hey, I pushed back because what I heard at the beginning of Alter’s comments was pretty good. And then he did a 180.

Alter is all over the place, sometimes in the same God damned sentence. I’m tired of pundits who have ceased paying any attention to actual Americans and get their perspective from their rarified offices and the revolving cluster-fuck and the spinning polls.

I actually respect Alter in many ways. But I do not respect the majority of what he said today, just because he’s heard it all before. There are literally millions of Americans who don’t know shit and this speech, when all is said and done, made SENSE.

In my youth I worked at a small restaurant that Roger Ebert used to frequent (he had a crush on one of the waitresses. Alas, not me). I consider myself an artistic snob and I’m proud of it, and I’m not saying some stupid fluff movie should get a rave rating. But he was so out of touch with how and why people spent their hard-earned dollars at the movie theater. He was ‘bored’ with certain things — well yeah, you jackass. You see 20 movies/week and most people plan how to see even one.

It’s that mindset that Alter was coming from today. It’s not about YOU, Alter. It’s about honing a message and this speech was a serious step in that direction. Alter should know that.

And God, for once — just once — I want to see a God damned “Democratic” pundit just cheer for this President. See the good, see it through the eyes of people who don’t know shit about how to vote and do some fucking good. Instead of entertaining yourself and Howard Fineman. Use your God damned brain.

Yes he has and is! People are telling him sound bytes are NOT what we need. The President’s speech was awesome. Too bad Alter doesn’t have enough sense to use his platform to inform people about the necessity of understanding complex sentences. I pushed back and will continue. These pundits are so full of themselves. They are arrogant and I have yet to read or hear any one of them say the possibility exist that they may have made a mistake.

    Just for the record.

I don’t give a damn what Jonathan Alter thinks of the Presidents speech.

From everything you all have been posting on this site for the last few months about Jonathan Alter it has been a clear indication to me that he has grown progressively negative on this President and his administration for whatever reason. So MSNBC brings him on to give commentary after a major speech and he goes negative. Absolutely no surprise at all. It’s a setup and its intentional IMO. They bring on the person that they are confident will go negative to set a negative narrative. The moment his face is seen on that screen you gotta know why he is there. It’s a game to these cable tv shows. It’s all a game.

He is not worth my time!

It still is disturbing that these kind of choices are being made. Where is the honesty, the objectivity, the integrity? If our entire news media is just a farce, setting up beforehand this kind of negative response, purposely creating a false image——what is going on?—–who are we?

      • 244 donna dem 4 obama
        June 14, 2012 at 3:58 pm

You see I think what I am reading in your comment is that you still have faith in the legitimacy of our media. They lost me 3 years ago when the nightly news started showing those RW townhalls against ACA. I simply believe now that It’s all propaganda from them. With everything they do there is an agenda. They had that speech ahead of time so they knew the President was going to take some shots at the media. So voila they bring on someone who declares the speech a failure.

I’m sorry but that mess that is masquerading as real news on cable tv is pathetic IMO.

Last month the President gives a major speech and rally in Ohio and the narrative becomes that there were empty seats. So instead of talking about the speech we are talking about seats.

Today, they want us to spend our time defending this speech against their commentary about why the speech “didn’t work” instead of us celebrating the merits of the speech. I’ve seen this game played out too many times before and I just refuse to play their game.

          June 14, 2012 at 5:43 pm

Donna, you came to the same conclusion as I did about the media, which is why I simply never watch. Those who heard the speech understood what the president said and rejoiced in it. Those who didn’t will get a chance to hear it again as the weeks go on. Only a miniscule number of people will listen to pundits and those are most likely not Obama voters to begin with. The president understands this. He’ll continue to talk to local reporters and and to real people. His speeches will be heard and his point will be made.

Donna you are right on the money (no pun intended). Alter is mad at the President and MSNBainCapital sees him as the perfect person to give analysis because they know it will be negative. It’s all very predictable.

    From Sully:

3.05 pm. My bottom line? A home run. Simply constructed, carefully reframed, aggressive while positive: the Obamaites have been listening to critics and are responding. If this is his message, and if he is able to keep articulating it this clearly, he will win. And in my view, the experience of the last thorty years is that he should win. If I have to choose between a governing philosophy espoused by Bill Clinton or one espoused by George W. Bush, it’s a no-brainer. And I can’t stand Bill Clinton.

    here’s Willard’s speech in a nutshell:

“I gave Romney a fair listen today and I gotta tell you, it was a grave mistake for him to play the dueling speeches game. First, Romney’s optics were horrible!! He looked like he was in some dude’s barn with about 60 of his neighbors chewing and spitting snuff.

Also, he came off the cuff with a rambling speech and these are the highlights:

    1. Drill, drill, drill
    2. Get rid of Obamacare but keep Romneycare in Massachusetts.
    3. Limit the size of government.
    4. Crack down on um China…um, somehow.
    5. Obama is bad, America is great.
    6. A woman went out of business because Obama said something about Vegas.
    7. And um, Rubio said something positive about something.
    8. A dude opened a new factory and he’s rich now.
    9. And he went to San Diego on Memorial Day and met some great Americans.
    10. But couldn’t hold the torch as high.
    11. He knows how to lead cause he’s um, been in the private sector

And, then, in walks Obama to thousands of screaming fans and every single word Romney said was dashed against the stone.

Mitt made a fool of himself today.”

Found them. Very strange, when you google & get the company, one of links takes you to NRA. Very interconnected. So here’s the text I found on their web, the 2nd para is where it led to NRA:

“Lockton Affinity is an affiliate of Lockton Companies, Inc., the largest independently owned commercial insurance broker in the U.S., and 10th largest firm of its type in the world. Lockton Affinity is a full-service group program administrator for associations, franchises and affinity groups of all types and sizes.”

“Our Self-Defense Insurance protects National Rifle Association members who need extra protection not found in most homeowners’ policies.” [I wonder why?! Duh!]

So many bitten by the ‘ Green Eyed Monster’, jealous, jealous, jealous, I tell you. No way any of them can come close to The Greatest President since Abe Lincoln, so intelligent, analytical, about so many things. He has to have an immense drive to learn and then put it to use, not all with brains can do that. Also, so even tempered, wonderful sense of humor, quick witted, beautiful smile, and on top of that Great Husband and Father.
No wonder so many are jealous…………

When Bush took office we had peace, prosperity, and budget surpluses. When he left office, we were involved in two wars, the economy was losing 700,000 jobs per month, and deficits were $1 trillion per year. Those are the facts. Its a shame some people only see color and not facts. Obama 2012 let welcome peace, prosperity, and budget surpluses back to the USA. vote Obama and move this country FORWARD.

This is the absolute truth, dun, and the media know it. Their hatred of President Obama has blinded to the truth. Personally, I lost faith in the media 10 years ago when they cheered for the invasion of Iraq based on lies.

    Reminder!

Today at 5pm Eastern, President Obama pays a visit to 1 World Trade Center in NYC for an update on its progress.

There will be a livestream at CNN and probably CBS.

    PINOCCHIO MITT

The Tongue Is Quicker Than the Eye

    By Mark Kleiman

    ————————–

This is part of a pattern. Mitt Romney is a chronic, pathological, utterly shameless, pants-on-fire (thirteen times so far), four-Pinocchios liar.
    .
    .
I’m not so sure. It’s possible that the press will start to report Romney’s lies as lies. That’s unconventional, but he’s asking for it.

Or perhaps some super-PAC will come along and run some spots on Romney’s mendacity. I doubt even low-information swing voters really like being lied to.

So A. Huffington started the day with her Repub. talking point (Obama can no longer blame Bush for the economy) and Alter took his talking point from Boehner’s press secretary (POTUS speech is too long). Wow! Color me surprised!

The MSM/GOP are a coordinated team. Those blaming PBO’s “messaging” or arguing that “if only PBO would say this or use this tactic” the MSM would carry his message, are failing to acknowledge this reality. The MSM is making a conscious decision NOT to carry PBO’s message because doing so would hurt the GOP/Mitt.

Exactly, EricFive! This is why I am always puzzled by some of our friends here who fault the President and his campaign for supposedly failing in the so called “messaging.” Besides “MSM … making a conscious decision NOT to carry PBO’s message…,” as soon as some of his message gets through they start distorting or denigrating it; thus sowing confusion for people who depend on them to make their decisions.

Sorry HuffPost but the majority of Americans disagree. “Poll: 68 percent of Americans still blame Bush for economic woes … http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/news/regions/americas/united-states/120614/poll-americans-still-blame-bush-economy

It’s refreshing to see that with a little over 140 days left until election day, HuffPost and Jonathan Alter are having no effect on actual voters.

President Obama is expected to raise at least $4.5 million in his New York City swing Thursday evening.

Obama will attend a fundraising reception at the home of actress Sarah Jessica Parker with approximately 50 guests. Tickets for that event cost $40,000 per person, according to a campaign official.

After, Obama will attend a fundraising dinner with 250 guests at the Plaza Hotel where singer Mariah Carey will perform. Tickets for that event cost $10,000 per person, per the campaign.

It’s Obama’s second trip to New York City in as many weeks — last week, he and former President Bill Clinton made three fundraising appearances together in the Big Apple.

Must read on Mitt’s intentions for healthcare.

    http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/political-animal-a/2012_06/disguising_repeal_and_reverse037955.php

First off, when Romney talks about protecting insurance coverage for people with pre-existing conditions, he’s talking about those with “continuing coverage”—i.e., those who quit jobs with employer-based health insurance. But they are already “protected” under current law, if you consider the “right” to buy crappy, overpriced HIPAA policies, or to temporarily continue old policies via COBRA (which involves paying employer as well as employee premiums).

Challenged with these facts, Team Romney once again changes the subject from federal guarantees to the alleged ability of states to provide “high-risk pools” (again, available under existing law, and providing crappy, expensive coverage) and/or to use the new flexibility Mitt and Paul Ryan want to give them to cover whoever they want under a Medicaid block grant. I’m just sure they will choose to focus on that problem even as Mitt and Ryan slash federal funding for Medicaid, threatening the eligibility of millions of poor and disabled folks who are Medicaid’s core responsibility.

But so far critics of Romney’s health care plans haven’t focused much on another disaster he would create for the un- and under-insured: his support for interstate insurance sales, which would almost certainly destroy existing state regulation of insurers, who would be able to stampede to whatever state offered them the opportunity to deny coverage and make premiums strictly dependent on health conditions.

Thank you, df. First comment was interesting..

“Well, Obama’s speech was terrific, the pundit hacks notwithstanding. I haven’t heard Mitt’s yet, but for Obama, the gloves were off, he got the audience fired up, and he linked the obstruction GOP in Congress to political motivations with this great line, “Romney and his allies in Congress….”

I thought it was great, specific and very smart in outlining the two futures we can choose.”

The second comment was something about willard saying “Talk is Cheap” and “Willard Should Know”..

I remember during the 2008 campaign one of the volunteers owned a barber shop. He registered more new voters there then everyone in our group. He was an older black gentleman and he said the number of young black men who were not registered was incredible. He also ran a mentoring program for young black fathers. He was a wonderful man. I am sorry we lost touch. I’ll have to look him up and get reacquainted.

Thanks POTUS for the reminder about the importance of barber shops.

Very good! Just saw the Presidents ad in tv about Robney as Governor.
This was NBC and during the US open.
The other day, I saw his ad on the Celtics game, and a lot of times, I watch the Red Sox on MLB channel and His add cone on there.
This is a Sporting crowd targeting, I just know it.

More on Mitt’s LACK OF HEALTHCARE

    http://maddowblog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/06/14/12221276-about-those-pre-existing-conditions?lite

[A statement from the Romney campaign] confirms that under a Romney presidency, there would be no federal prohibition barring health insurers from discriminating against pre-existing conditions. Instead, his administration would push reforms that help eat away at the problem.

Those “reforms” — including turning responsibilities to states — have been largely ineffective.

An ABC report added that Romney’s policy “does not immediately address people who have never had private health insurance, or who have had insurance but spent some time without, often because of financial circumstances and unemployment.”

Given the popularity of these consumer protections — as many as 85% of Americans support coverage for those with pre-existing conditions — Romney is placing himself on the wrong side of the American mainstream.

Okay, so we know now what we have come to know over time.
The media is corrupt …..so we become the media, ergo ‘ WE DA MEDIA’ memes.
The pundits are bought and sold …so we tackle their negativism with pushback on twitter, emails etc
The Democrats do not appear to be as supportive as they ought….so we appeal to them to become the surrogates they should be
Therefore,we too have choices. No more bitching, whining -oh the media,oh the media.,oh this pundit, that pundit. They are schizoid!
As soon as negativism arises, we change to facts, truthtelling and most importantly change the narrative back to positive. In other words we
change the tone and meaning to where it should be.
P.S UT, bless her, is one of the best surrogate warriors around. Thanks, me lovely. Forward!

Don’t pay attention to Jonathan Alter. In 2008, these same folks didn’t think pres Obama did well, but CBS poll and people who watched liked the performances of then senator Obama.

Please the picture of president Obama, on the front page, is it real? It’s like pres Obama is suspended in air. The president was lifted up by 6 inches or more.
